It's called a "wheel lock," if you're looking for what they're called in general. But even if you know what brand, they make multiple key patterns so you can't just get a generic replacement.

Hopefully you can find the key somewhere in the car -- there are other ways to get a wheel lock off but finding the original key is your best bet.

They're easily switched. You don't even have to remove the wheel.

Here's a great way though, use the Stick on lead weights used for balancing car wheels

Just try to make sure there's no metal on metal contact with tape to prevent shorts.

Note they have different dimensions. the 15" center cap is part number 09.24.028, which is 6.73 inches (or 171mm). The 14" center cap is 151mm, or 6 inches.

Here's the 15" basketweave center cap part numbers that I've recorded:

Part number 0924028 for the center cap, it's 171mm (6.73 inches)

Part number 09.23.114 for the center twist hex cap

Part number 09.24.029 center logo for wheel OR 09.24.030. BMW p/n 36-13-2-225-190-m9 70mm diameter wheel center cap

Part number 09.23.113 a different version of the 15" center cap that seems to fit

Depending on your neighborhood, they may get stolen if you don't keep it garaged. Got a 2015 in October and they were gone by January. Toyota makes center caps that are pretty nice and will plug the holes in the rims. Four of these and you're good.

The clear layer is to protect the center cap from corrosion/damage. its probably some sort of clear lacquer, so it defiantly shouldn't be coming off. what you'll have to do is remove the wheel, tap the center cap out from the other side, replace with these and replace the wheel.

It sounds super weird, but for some specific head shapes these work very well affixed to the rear of the device, as close to the center as possible.

That’s for the rims and inside of the wheel to keep any mess on the trims them selves. And with the control nozzle on the gun, it’s a small fan, only about 2”, so it’s very controllable to keep any build up any where else.


Andddd I do this for myself, I’m not a professional detailer or have a shop or earn a living from this. I just plain old love having an extremely well kept vehicle; both inside and out.

Get some wheel spacers, I think these fit.

Use wheel spacers with a spring spacer. Something like these (but measure your springs and get something that actually fits).

Use the spring spacer to get a 3/4” lift or so from your struts. Use wheel spacers to push the wheels out a little. You should be able to fit a tire that’s 1”-2” taller than factory.

I ended up having to get a couple different width wheel spacers, 1 1/4” on the front and 1-1/2” on the back but I think I need 2” on the back. A lot of this will be trial and error. That’s part of the fun!

Slap those on both front wheels and you'll be good. This is a common issue with people that do this swap.

I mean, it's still pressing on your face somewhat. I wear mine as loose and optimally as possible and have experimented with every configuration and even added weights to the back (don't add weights, it's dumb).

It’s actually not a problem at all. The spray from the gun is strong enough where it doesn’t go every where and it’s pretty dead on.

Wheel locks are just there to make it more difficult than the car next to yours, but they're far from impenetrable. If someone wants your wheels there isn't a whole lot you can do other than parking it somewhere they can't get to.
