(Part 2) Reddit mentions: The best dolls & accessories

Before I get to the list, I'll mention that it may not seem like I'm super active, but I was away from the sub for a week or so, but if you look into my posts from before that, you'll see I'm pretty active. :)

1.) Something that is blue. - I mean, it's literally blue.

2.) Something that says summer. - What says summer better than SURFING!?

3.) Something food related that is unusual. - It's a Kit Kat. But it's GREEN TEA flavored!

4.) Something you want to gift to someone else, and tell me why. - I've been trying to get /u/quickwittedslowpoke to buy this manga because it's awesome, but she hasn't yet. I really want her to read it!

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! - Shameless shilling. My friend wrote this book and I want him to become famous! :D

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! - I don't really have a great reason for this, it was just on my mind because I had considered getting it as a gag gift for my uncle's birthday since his lucky number is 113 and that Pokemon is #113, but I didn't end up doing it since it wouldn't have arrived by his birthday (which already passed).

7.) Something related to dogs. - I have no idea what GSD is, sorry D:

8.) Something that is not useful, but so awesome you must have it. - It's literally just a statue. It doesn't do anything but look cute. But she's one of my favorite characters :D

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? - This is one of the best Anime films of all time. Even if you're not into anime, I still highly recommend it. It has won COUNTLESS awards already. It's a pretty big deal in the anime community. It's got a great plot and it's so sad that if you don't cry, you have no soul.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. - Zombies can't swim. Foolproof plan. They'll eventually decay in the sun and all die within a few days, and you'll be out on your cool ass boat, safe from the chaos.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. - I know it seems a little silly, but I'm trying to learn to cook better, and I just don't really have very good cooking tools...

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. - Fun fact: I obsessively clean my ears. :I

13.) Something fandom related. - It's three fandoms in one! Super Smash Bros, Nintendo and Final Fantasy! :D

14.) Something ridiculously priced, more than $10,000. They exist, y’all. - Because it's eleven times what you asked :)

15.) Something with sharks or unicorns. - It was actually pretty decent.

16.) Something that smells wonderful. - At least I think it does. Needs lots of sugar though lol

17.) A toy that you wanted or had when you were a child that was the best ever, or (if it’s not on amazon) a toy that you think is pretty cool now - Does this count? I had the original back in the 80s/90s, and this is a new model with packed in games. But yeah, this shit was my childhood!

18.) Something that would be helpful for writers. - I mean, really, what're you gonna do with unsharpened pencils?

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. - The Precure anime franchise is one of my guilty pleasures, and this character, Cure Peace, is my favorite character in the series! :D

20.) Something that is just so random and weird that it makes you laugh. - Because why the fuck not?

    That was actually a lot of fun!

If they can afford it and you have one in your area, I would recommend the family take the dementia patient to an adult daycare every now and again, or even everyday. It gives the family some time to breathe and do what they want. And it gets the patient out and about.

Don't know if the family needs some sort of distractions or not? Female dementia patients often respond favorably to baby dolls. Actual dolls. Like the ones small girls play with. NOT a Barbie, but a bigger doll. Like this:

You don't need to get all the accessories (bottles, clothes, etc.). I have seen many female dementia patients who will sit and hold a doll for hours on end. Either their vision or that part of their brain doesn't allow them to see the doll as a doll but makes them think it's a real child and so they'll sit there all day with one, and talk to it and burp it and such. I've not seen a man with a doll, so I don't know if it would work or not.

The other thing that works for dementia patients is a "fidget blanket." but it is basically a blanket with zippers and buttons and velcro and various things for them to do with their hands. I've seen some that mount on the wall and have mechanical type stuff like a vise and a lock and other things, but then you have to get the patient up and over to the wall and I just don't see that being practical.

Oh, and something that works for patients of both genders: picture books. Especially if the patient used to love to read. Get them a big stack of picture books (kids books are great for this), or if you can find a big thick catalog, that also works (they won't know the difference and no biggie if a page gets torn).

All of these ideas are for patients in the more advanced stages of dementia. Your mileage may vary. I wouldn't pull any of these out of my hat for someone who was just recently diagnosed with dementia. I had a colleague who used coloring books and crayons with her patients but I never could quite pull that one off. Other people have also had success with giving them a basket full of towels or socks or something innocuous like that and having them fold laundry all day. (They'll never finish because they're likely to undo what they just did).

The big thing for families is letting them know that strange behaviors are perfectly normal and getting them some help so they don't have to do everything themselves because then they just get burned out fast.

Make sure the patient doesn't have access to the car keys, if they're still mobile. Find out if they're a wandering risk. I had a patient once who was a major escape risk.... literally if you turned your back, he would be out the door, over a 6 foot privacy fence, and running down the major highway that was a block away. The easiest way to fix this is to move the doorknobs and locks either up or down on the door. Let me explain: a person with a "normal" or still fully functioning brain knows where the doorknob is and how to operate it. Now take someone with dementia and move the doorknob up to, say, chest height or up even higher (just not at eye level). The patient will go to open the door and not be able to find the doorknob and they will be stumped. It will distract their brain from their usual thinking of "I've got to get out of here" to "where is the doorknob" and many advanced stage dementia patients won't think to look up (or down), and even if they do find it, they won't remember why they were looking for the doorknob in the first place, and hopefully wander off and find something else to get into.

Someone has told me that it's like having a 3 year old again, and it really is. You just have to find something to entertain them. Experiment!! It helps to know what they did for a living.... if they were a homemaker, the baby doll and folding laundry is likely to work. If they were a sports fan, put on ESPN (had one old lady that loved to watch ESPN all day everyday).

every one of these fit my blue haired curvy barbie. The pants took a bit of work, but they fit and look like leggings on her.

The shirt is good as a jacket for normal babries, but it fits her perfectly.

The dress is naturally loose, so its a little tight on her. but it fits.

The shoes and belt fit also. Its honeslty the perfect pack

I also recommend another one.. I can't find it on amazon so i can't give the name. But it has a very nice teal blue skirt with lace, a lavender top that sits off the shoulders, and white shoes and a white hand bag. The top and the skirt fit perfectly and are very cute. The heal of the shoes though are too high for the doll.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!! My inlaws keep buying my kids huge toys, and I officially have no fucking space left. You know, in my 3 bedroom detached house that we’ve only lived in under 3 years. DH said that he had spoken to them about it, then for DS’s birthday in September they walked in with this fucker. Bonus was that they put it together before bringing it over so it’s not like we could return it, and I don’t feel like being the asshole in my kids’ eyes by taking it away when they’re so obviously stoked. Now here’s the conundrum this Christmas: when I was a child, my dad built me a Barbie house and it’s been in his basement for the last 25 years until I had kids of my own to pass it on to. Last week we moved it and I’m working on painting it and changing the carpets. Now, I’m not even sure where we’re gonna put it since IL’s gifts are taking up all the space, but if I have to I’ll be getting rid of a few. I also made and Amazon wish list with Calico Critters sets to fill up the house (DD is only 4 and I think she’ll enjoy those more than Barbie). I plan on sending a link to my mom, and I told DH that my ideal scenario would be for his parents to buy directly from the list. He said that he felt like that would take the “fun” out of it for them. Smoke practically came out of my ears. First, their “fun” has so far meant that I haven’t been given the courtesy of choosing whether I want to house massive toys or not. Second, following the list would mean that DD has a completely furnished dollhouse by the end of Christmas, with no doubles or extras or empty rooms. That would be pretty awesome for her. Third, DH only told them “calico Critters stuff”, no other details. Knowing them, they’ll buy something like this instead of something like this. I’ll get to be the jerk that takes away the cutesy dollhouse because we don’t need a second one (btw, my dollhouse is massive and the shit. All my friends were crazy jealous lol). Fourth and lastly, I feel like not listening to us when DH said to tone it down deserves consequences, namely being told exactly what to buy even if it’s not as fun. I could give a fuck about their fun, when I have to manoeuvre around a trashed train table every single day because my kids are too young to play gently with a toy that has about a hundred detachable parts.

I had the best day yesterday! I stayed home because I was sick on Sunday night and didn't want to risk getting sick at work. Well, I felt fantastic all day and I felt like it was just what I needed. I feel recharged and ready to go after it! I commented to H that I don't know why I take a day like that more often. I should put "sick day" on my calendar every quarter. I spent a few hours working on a craft project (Mini House Scene, Miller's Garden) and listened to an audiobook course by Matt Kahn. I also did some kettlebell training.

At the moment, the weather is gorgeous and I can't wait for the long weekend ahead. Wishing all the xxketo ladies a fantastic day!

I second (third?) this! I got my son the Caring for Animals Farm and he LOVES it. So much so that I got then got him the Little People House thinking it would be a big win as well, but not so much. He loves putting the animals in the farm stalls and closing the doors.

I recently bought a DIY dollhouse kit on Amazon to pass the time in my hermit state, and it is bringing me much joy! There are so many tiny pieces that it will definitely take a while to complete. I bought the greenhouse one.
