tl;dr: had it for 8 years, out in Dec, pregos in Feb, start taking a prenatal now, don't stress out too bad

Hi OP! It really causes some anxiety, right?? I can totally relate. I had my mirena for 8 years (I know, I know) so when I had it removed in December when we were ready to TTC, I was super stressed. (Like worrying for months before removal that I was screwed, but not in the good, let's make a baby screwed kind of way.) My first period after removal arrived right on time, but it was really short and light. So I started taking a daily baby aspirin along with a prenatal, tracking my cycle, trying to get an idea for when I should ovulate, and read a couple of good books to help me understand the whole conception process. (OMG. The things I know now. Creating life is a goddamn miracle.) I estimated the best window, and got busy every couple days during it. 👍🏼 No dice for January. Period came right on time and that shit was heavy and lasted a goddamn week. (Like full on, this is why I went on the mirena, hurry up and get pregnant so no more periods, I need a menstruating hut so I can deal with this in a safe space, PERIOD.) Afterwards, I went back to tracking my ovulation and made sure my husband and I had some fun around the right time. "Haha," we joked, "wouldn't it be hilarious if we conceived on Valentines Day and were totally that couple, lol lol lol." 🙄

So, now I'm 14 weeks and a few days. Everything is going well so far 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼although, did have some minor spotting and cramping around 6 weeks. I'm still taking the prenatal, but quit the baby aspirin after The Period. (Which was good, because apparently it's not a good thing to take once you're actually pregnant. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

About the baby aspirin: I read some studies that showed it can increase blood flow and help thicken the uterine lining. I reasoned that my body was probably like "lol, what's a uterine lining" after 8 years on the mirena and never getting a period during those 8 years. But, I am NOT a doctor or a nurse and I did NOT consult a doctor or a nurse before hand. So please don't take that as advice.

Here is the advice I would give you: have fun. Have so much fun. Have all the fun. Enjoy the process. Have sex because it is fun and helps you and your partner connect and become closer. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed that things happened so fast for us, cause a couple more months might have been good for us. Also start taking a prenatal now!

But. If you're like me and need to understand how TF this all works, read some books. My sister gave me these books: https://www.amazon.com/Impatient-Womans-Guide-Getting-Pregnant/dp/1451620705 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0062326031/ref=pd_aw_fbt_14_img_2/130-9845686-7028617?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=AM8QGX8PCVXKVWT3V6J8, both of which clarified all the things for me. I also bought this OTK (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E5LAXZW/ref=mp_s_a_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1494602119&sr=8-6&keywords=Easy%40Home) because I am not a patient woman.

I'm rooting for you and I hope you come back in the right amount of time for you with good news! 😘😘😘

Easy@Home Progesterone (PDG Test) Urine Test Strips Kit -10 Tests, Newly Launched FDA Registered Ovulation Confirmation Test you can get them on Amazon here

They do not give an amount, but rather show if you are above or below 5 ug/ml. (Urine will have less than blood. I read that roughly 5 in urine ~ 10 in blood). It seems like there are a lot of different schools of thought on this. Some think amount of progesterone is a non issue. My doctor did not see a problem with my levels (8.5 on 7DPO via blood test) when I wasn’t ever getting positives on these strips. Others believe you need a level high enough to register these tests positive, in order to confirm ovulation/sustain pregnancy. I personally don’t know what I believe, but I like to use them to give me piece of mind when the test shows there is “enough” progesterone to hopefully sustain a pregnancy. My concern was that my body had a ton of estrogen and not enough progesterone, so getting a positive PDG test after changing my diet was super encouraging for me. This may just be a placebo effect, but eases my mind nonetheless. Oh and a warning: they are expensive, like completely stupidly expensive.

From the Manufacturer:

Progesterone (PdG) Test Strips measure the presence of PdG in urine, which has been shown to directly correlate with the presence of progesterone in blood. A Positive PdG test result may confirm that ovulation has occurred. The cutoff level is 5 ug/ml (Microgram/milliliter) units. 5ug/ml is equal to 5000 ng/ml (Nanogram/milliliter) for conversion purposes.

While LH testing is a reliable way to detect ovulation for many women, due to several factors, ovulation may be irregular and may not occur at the same time each menstrual cycle or may not occur at all. Therefore, PdG urine testing should be performed each menstrual cycle to “double check” if ovulation has occurred to remove any ambiguity or doubt. PdG test also allows TTC women a opportunity to double check ovulation at home before consulting physicians for suspected infertility or subfertility issue. Combining accurate LH and PdG tests makes the natural family planning (NFP) journey much easier.

It is recommended you test for PdG starting 5 days after your positive LH test until you get a positive result.

Cheer up, buttercup! :)

When I'm feeling down, I always look at pictures of other countries. I imagine what it would be like if I was in that picture at that moment. It's cheesy, but it works. I particularly love this picture. It's in Ireland which I think is one of the most beautiful countries. Just taking a few minutes to envision what's it's like there makes a world of difference for me and I hope it will for you as well <3

This would make me very happy to use once my midterms are over next week. I want to be able to relax since it'll be spring break! :)

Thanks for the contest! I'm always here if you need anything <3

My husband and I usually only have sex a couple times a month (when not TTC), so I definitely understand. Fortunately, we've both been super on board, but last month he was too "tired" (er, hungover) to try the day after my ovulation stick was a BFP, and, of course, it didn't work, so, I totally get that the lack of motivation to have sex can be frustrating.

Anyway, I'm terrible with the psychology stuff, but I do have a few practical/logistics ideas that might help...

Temping is a LOT of effort. Don't pressure her into doing that if she's not really into it. Almost as good is the pee sticks: https://www.amazon.com/ClinicalGuard®-Ovulation-Test-Strips-Individually-Sealed/dp/B009G497KK
The only problem is that you can actually ovulate 24-48 hours after a positive LH, but you don't know exactly when. Also, the results can be a little trickier to interpret in the first month (is that a dark positive line, or only a kind of dark negative line?), but as long as you're having sex within that window, and slightly before, you're fine. Save the ovulation sticks from the month before as a reference guide. People's pee and LH levels are different, and you really have to interpret the shade of the line based on experience here. Of course, that can be true with temping as well.

Something that sounds absolutely bonkers at first, but might actually be right for you, is ejaculating into a soft cup and having her insert it: https://www.amazon.com/Instead-Softcups-Feminine-Protection-Count/dp/B000X29GY6 No actual sex involved, most of the pressure is on you, and the odds of conception might actually be higher than doing it in the old fashioned way ;) They're a little on the expensive side (I mean... just over a dollar... not that expensive compared to a baby!) but (and I'm not supposed to say this, but...) they are reusable if you clean them well!

Also, it's obvious that lube can make a world of difference when a lady's not particularly in the mood. Make sure you're using a sperm safe lubricant, like Pre-Seed https://www.amazon.com/Pre-Seed-Personal-Lubricant-1-4-Oz/dp/B004382GWK

I know, I sound like a shill for Amazon right now, but I buy all my stuff from them :)

Good luck!

u/pinkorblue13117 · 3 pointsr/tryingforanother

Hi!!! So my son has been exclusively breastfed (aside from introducing solids at 6 mos.) and my period came back at 4.5 months postpartum. Every woman is different in regards to breastfeeding/fertility. I've had 3 cycles since they first came back, but I just started temping this month so I can see if i'm actually ovulating. We don't want a big age gap so we are trying, but haven't had any luck. Breastfeeding can cause short luteal phases, but since you're done breastfeeding then this might not be an issue for you. My advice; get some cheap OPKs. Get a mabis basal body thermometer and start temping. Track your temps with Fertility Friend. This will hopefully give you some clarity so you can start to understand what's going on with your body! Good luck :)

This is why things like this are quite amazing to have to keep yourself in check. For if you have an employer that likes to conduct drug tests every so often.

Also, if someone has not passed a drug test after two months of not smoking. Please pass that blunt around. As that truly is the finest chronic out there and should be shared among friends.

u/nkdeck07 · 3 pointsr/waiting_to_try

>she recommended an expensive ovulation kit

Don't go with that right off the bat. I use these ones for tracking https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F3IH58Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and they work great. $.036 a pee is pretty great

u/LordGuapo · 1 pointr/ketogains

For those interested in this topic I used this relatively cheap Lipid Panel Test Kit from Amazon.

Now for my rant/review; I got 1 kit done for before starting a keto regimen, and 1 for after. I had a bit of saturated fats and also a few too many keto snacks and cauliflower (carb substitute hacks).

Total Cholesterol: 205 , 235
Triglycerides: 64.9, 119
HDL-C: 38 (low), 58
LDL-C: 153, 153
TC/HDL-C Ratio: 5.4 (high), 4.1

The results were good, besides elevated triglycerides which is a strong indicator a person isn't adapting well to the diet (1/4 of humans dont). The level it rose to is still in the "optimal" zone at 'under 150' so we'll see where we are at as I only recently went back to stricter/cleaner keto. Will test again in June.

Cheers!

u/eryoshi · 2 pointsr/stilltrying

I feel your pain! Awhile back, I supported a kickstarter for at-home progesterone tests that confirm ovulation 4-5 days after ovulation (in accordance with the progesterone surge that occurs after ovulation triggers the formation of the corpus luteum). I use it in conjunction with OPKs. I estimate that I ovulate the day after my first positive OPK, and then around 4 or 5 dpo, I test for the progesterone surge. It's great for peace of mind.

These MFB Fertility 7 Urine Progesterone Test Strips are the originals whose kickstarter I backed, but these Easy@Home Progesterone Urine Test Strips are cheaper (though it sounds like a teensy bit less sensitive - they go positive at 6μg/ml instead of 5μg/ml like the MFB strips). If you decide to use them, make sure you note that TWO pink lines means NEGATIVE for progesterone and ONE pink line means POSITIVE for progesterone. It's kind of a mind fuck after spending so long looking for two lines. 😜

u/thislittlepiggy19 · 3 pointsr/TryingForABaby

Welcome. A game changer for me was when I started using ovulation strips. I learned that I ovulate later than Ovia was guessing that I did, and within 3 cycles, I got pregnant. If you don't go with the fancy ones, they can be super cheap. You just also need to buy tiny cups to dip the strips into.

I found these to be SO much more helpful than the thermometer because I'm a fitful sleeper, so I struggled to get a consistent temperature.

u/kpbaby016 · 1 pointr/infertility

How awesome that the doctor made a calendar for you? My doctor was like here just remember 5-9, then start testing for O a few days after.

As for tests, they only did progesterone and the other basics. Then said, all is good. I have had PCOS for years, so he also put me on Metformin 3 months ago now. I've been taking baby aspirin too and taking Mucinex. I was wondering about the tube blockages but the doctor said that he doesn't believe that's an issue.

I used to buy the Clearblue ones, but that's so expensive when you are taking them everyday (as I am sure you know). So I buy these off Amazon and they are totally fine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C5O4UPY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I know that I did read that you should only do 6 cycles on Clomid tops and then it increases chances of ovarian cancer after. So I think that's why my OB wants to pawn me off to an RE after 3 cycles.

My wife and I pay for our sperm so I hear you! This shit adds up fast. I just heckled the bank we use and their prices have really jumped. Sperm used to be $350 when we bought our first round of vials a few years ago and now it’s $500+ per vial. And that’s before shipping! Ugh. Makes you want to cry.

I just used my first Wondfo Babydust LH Test and I like it so far. It was $28.50 for 50 LH dip tests and 20 HCG tests and it shipped amazon prime. It was easy to read although it does have a very obvious indent that could be mistaken for a faint positive so you’d definitely need to watch for depth of color and not get tricked by the shadow.

Here is the link if anyone is interested.

Wondfo Extra Wide Tests - by The Babydust Method - 50 LH ovulation and 20 HCG pregnancy test strips https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW7N348/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aUs4AbGE0TS80

I also bought a saliva microscope called Ovatel for $35 on amazon prime and it’s way cool. You check your saliva for salt crystals. It even comes with an adapter to hook it up to your smartphone camera. Some crystals means you’re headed towards ovulation. Covered in fern like crystals supposedly means ovulation. Today was CD 8 and the first day of my fertile window. My LH Test was negative as I expected and my saliva test had some scattered crystals.

Ovatel Ovulation Monitor - Simple and accurate way to pinpoint ovulation with unlimited tests and a free Smartphone App https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0792QJZZY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AYs4AbWSY65D3

What I’m most excited about is my Femometer app! Because it lets me take photos of my LH strips and HCG tests and my saliva test and it stores it all on my chart. I used to use Kindara for years but now I think I’m a Femometer convert. Plus the Bluetooth bass thermometer makes it way easier to test early in the morning because I do not wake up well.

I used a cheap Sony https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFTWCBJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_9Ds3DbD1ZRA7J with a cheap external lavilier mic https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016C4ZG74/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_yFs3DbBWC4W8C. I hid it under the back seat because it was easy and this was my first attempt. I wasnt expecting anything. The audio wasn't great when the car was on the freeway because of external car noises. Next step was to remove the panel above the stereo and mount inside the dash. An external omnidirectional mic is necessary for good audio but will also pick up other sounds too so want to get it as close as possible.

I used Checkmate test https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001O8644S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_AKs3DbT0E88HM. This came with two tests but it the first test is positive... anyway, follow the instructions to the letter and you will be fine. Be patient don't rush the process. It's the same type of reagent used in rape kits so it works. Just in case I did use 4 controls in my group. I used a positive control I knew would react and 3 negative controls all using different materials.

Good luck, stay strong and remember, you may not like what you find.

u/fuji91 · 1 pointr/PregnancyWbW

No problem! Maybe. She can test a day or two her period is due to find out. Planned parenthood would insert the IUD/nexplanon while she’s on her period and have her do a test, and if she went the pill route they’d have her start at a certain time in her cycle.

Read up on a woman’s menstrual and ovulation cycle in order to educate yourself a bit. There’s a small window in a woman’s cycle where she can get pregnant, but tracking ovulation can be tricky (and thus, the fertile window is larger and there’s more room for error).

If you want to test to relieve anxiety, here’s some cheap ones you can buy in bulk.

AccuMed Pregnancy Test Strips, 25-Count Individually Wrapped Pregnancy Strips, Early Home Detection Pregnancy Test Kit, Clear HCG Test Results, FDA Approved and Over 99% Accurate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YNWRPP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_a6z7BbVWKE2AA

TW: Loss

Definitely to early to test.

But as for success with cheapies, the wondfo FRER dup shows a positive when I had an hcg level of 14 and was negative at 8. So overall i'd say pretty sensitive

u/UofHCoog · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

Not gonna lie, it's super satisfying to pee on something and see 2 lines. I use these because I don't want to deal with peeing in a cup.

u/RiotGrrr1 · 1 pointr/WomensHealth

It’s unlikely, it could be stress or other factors why you felt faint. I’m a little confused about the first experience, you were wearing a tampon when he tried to have sex with you (assault might be better word on this one)? If you were wearing a tampon the chances are super low I’d think but I would get some cheap test strips at amazon or dollar store (they are cheap and accurate) and just test every week (or more). 20 tests for less than $8 Wondfo Pregnancy Test Strips (20 Count) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004AOGUD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wRolDb9AE7YQN.

For second experience did you ask about the condom? Did it slip off, did he take it off? You need to make sure he knows he can’t cum in you. For back up is there a reason why you’re not using birth control?

u/hyperventilate · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Not saying your mentality is wrong, but things that are in the dollar store must comply to all required regulations that brand name products also have to stand up to. Just because they're in a dollar store doesn't mean they're defective in any way. They could be in the store because the lot used a wrong color in the packaging or because there was a typo on the info sheet inside or the printer leaked and put drops of ink in the upper left quadrant of the box. Condoms, for example, must still pass the rigorous testing that trojan or magnum or durex needs to pass. The pregnancy tests have to meet the same standards.

Not to mention that clinics like planned parenthood or women's health clinics literally spend pennies on pregnancy tests since they purchase them in bulk, from the same company that distributes brand name and dollar store tests.

Peace of mind is a powerful thing, but the nitty gritty reality is, that dollar store test is manufactured by the same people who make First Response or Clearblue... they've been purchased by the same company, just use a different name.

ETA: Example off of Amazon... 25 tests that you'll find at the dollar store (sans plastic casing) for 13.50 (with prime), that evens out to just over 50 cents a test. Big money =/= better product.

u/Proteus-aeruginosa · 3 pointsr/childfree

I bought those strips too! It’s like $7 for 25 instead of $7 for 2 in store.

Edit: here they are. It was positive at 4 weeks for me so I trust them.

I considered the KetoHealthCare meter, but there are other alternatives:

Here is a cool blog thread summarizing testing and experience on a variety of breath meters, https://www.ketogenicforums.com/t/test-breath-ketones-without-a-ketonix-using-a-cheap-breathalyzer/9450

Another helpful page, http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Breath_Acetone_Meters

The KHC meter 'appears' from the outside to be very similar to this one,

https://www.amazon.com/AlcoHAWK-Ultra-Slim-Digital-Breathalyzer/dp/B002QECE3Y

I have an email into KHC asking what is the difference, other than the white case vs black case. Amazon price is HALF the $40 for the KHC.

Reviews on Amazon of this meter are not so hot. I've also seen a review on Facebook of the KHC, which complains about erratic readings.

I have been loyal to the easy@home brand myself. Never had any issues. Others may have different opinions.

I have a box of 50 pregnancy tests, I havent used them because getting a negative sends me overboard currently. When I finally have a moth that I hit my window square I will try it - but until then..

Here's some links:
Thermometer I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0764LHSNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Opks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F3IH58Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_6VRroiyrDBvYd

The thermometer attaches to the Premom app, and although I dont prefer it - it picks up the bluetooth temps and you can take pics of your opks and the app will tell you if its positive or not, and keeps a picture log.

If possible locate a home test and test yourself to be sure. You can find them at smoke shops of pharmacies. Its never a bad idea to have some laying around, you can get them cheap on amazon. I say you will be fine though.

You're not stupid; you are excited and hopeful!

I tested negative on day 11 DPO, but I tested positive on day 13! It is different for everybody.

You can buy pregnancy tests and ovulation kits in bulk on the internet. No guilt testing! I used the dollar store, which worked fine for me. But had it taken us much longer, I would have invested online.

Yes! I bought mine on Amazon. Can’t wait to try them out!

u/manicuresandmimosas · 4 pointsr/thebachelor

Jesus yes. I finally got on board the train for those small tests you dip in urine? after going through maybe 15 First Response ones. If I'm ever going to have a baby, I can't spend $$$ trying to figure out if they're coming or not.

Your standard pre-employment 5-panel drug screening covers:

  • Cocaine
  • Marijuana (THC, cannabinoids)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP - angel dust)
  • Amphetamines (including methamphetamines)
  • Opiates (codeine, morphine, and heroin)

Based on an average of manufacturer's information here are the most common tolerances:

Drug EMIT cut off GC/MS cut off
    Marijuana 50 ng/ml 15 ng/ml
    Cocaine 300 ng/ml 150 ng/ml
    Opiates 2000 ng/ml 2000 ng/ml
    Phencyclidine 25 ng/ml 25ng/ml
    Amphetamines 1000 ng/ml 500 ng/ml

EMIT cut off is where the dip strips pick up the values, if they want to be picky they can send the test for further analysis with a GC/MS which will pick up much lower values in the sample.

It might be worth your while to keep a few of these around, they're available very inexpensively on Amazon and have about the same tolerances.

How accurate are these home blood tests (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Home-Cholesterol-Test-Triglycerides/dp/B00CA8LW5M) In my state you can't get bloods by walking to a private lab, and these seem to have good reviews. Wondered if anyone has tried them.

u/NotHyplon · 1 pointr/Nootropics

I'm guessing your in Canada from another thread but Amazon U.S have kits from $35 upwards i.e http://www.amazon.com/Testosterone-Hormone-Balance-Level-Test/dp/B00846GYCK/ref=pd_sim_hpc_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1R06BPB852MDG63HPZET

If you really do have low test the sooner it is corrected the better as it affects everything.

u/Speed_Reader · 1 pointr/Nootropics

Couldn't find and available in canada.

Blood test:

Some saliva tests, but unless you have a specific reason to measure free testosterone, accuracy seems to be lower:

For future reference to whoever may need it:

You can easily test yourself using the same immunoassay method labs use for 10 dollars.

https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Home-Panel-Instant-Urine/dp/B00YHXZQSC/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1505880683&sr=8-3&keywords=drug%2Btest&th=1

It's only when you trigger this do they test again with the more sensitive Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) for confirmation.

The cutoff for THC should be the same <50ng everywhere (but a few labs halve the cutoff for some of the other drugs)

Shopping for more OPK's on Amazon and I come across this

Extra wide Wondfo's for the Baby Dust method

Whaaaaa?

u/Moghie · 3 pointsr/TryingForABaby

Last week I got LH strips (Wondfo), and they were 50 strips for $18. The kit with 50 LH plus 20 hcg tests was $21, maybe less. I've seen cheaper strips at 50 for $12 or so.. This is a nice website I guess, but I wouldn't call them deals! (for instance..)

u/kacihall · 2 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

These are the ones that I bought. They haven't been wrong yet!

u/This_River · 2 pointsr/TTC30

I prefer Clinical Guard to Wondfo test strips. You can purchase them here:

ClinicalGuard 40 Ovulation Test Strips & 10 Pregnancy Test Strips Combo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009G4JCP0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XY5OCbP1PHHDW

Once you see the lines getting darker, use a digital test to get an 100% confirmation that you are ovulating. These are more expensive, so you only want to use them sparingly once you are getting closer to your ovulation date to confirm its time to get busy!

You could try this

u/deliriss · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

I am talking about these. I don't really know if they are as sensitive as advertised. Personally, I find FRER too expensive. I have some, I will use them when/if I see a shadow on the wondfo or if my period is really late.

u/southpaw303 · 1403 pointsr/LifeProTips

how about 25 for $6.99?

A little more than a quarter per test.

This is literally what is inside the plastic handles.

u/dreamgal042 · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

Not Wondfo, but these are the ones I use.

u/RATFINK187 · 2 pointsr/Drugtests

urine tests cups can be obtained online or probably at a pharmacy here is a link to some home tests on amazon.

u/emsers · 5 pointsr/TryingForABaby

I've been using Clinical Guard for the last several months. They seem to be accurate and are inexpensive.

I can't figure out if these will ship to Australia, but look for something like this. They're just as accurate as the "pee on a stick" kind but muuuchhhh cheaper.

u/MableXeno · 2 pointsr/Parenting

For future reference...

I keep tests on hand. I have an IUD, but I am irregular, so I test when I'm missing it.

u/oh_my_baby · 1 pointr/Mommit

For future reference you can get a pack of 25 pregnancy tests for 8 bucks. They aren't as fancy, but work just as well. You pee in a cup and then dip it in. I had lots of pregnancy trouble and was so glad to have a cheap option.

u/Amraff · 2 pointsr/ask

Usual testing time is 10 days after your missed period, however the sensitivity of the test will vary by brand. Some companies sell esrly tests but they can be very expensive.

Buy a few and test again in a week and again a week after if you still havent had a period.

I recommend getting these tests. Big pack of tests for reasonably cheap, only thing is you have to pee in a cup & dip them.
