On a scale of LOTR Universe Heroes, Vortex lines are thusly distributed:
In my opinion, the best value would be the Diamondback HP 3-12x42, at $275. Basically an under priced Viper.
I know that not everyone here has the scratch for top-dollar optics, and some others just like to play around with various types of optics and may not care if they're top of the line, so this may be of interest to some of you.
A while back I ordered what I thought might turn out to be a dud, the Centerpoint "Tactical" 1-4x20 illuminated scope - it had great reviews and was touted as a sleeper deal on several forums and Youtube videos, so I thought, what the hell?.
What I received turned out to be a pretty good bargain: a basic 1-4x illuminated scope that is at least on par with the quality of my older Primary Arms 1-4x, but in a lighter and smaller package. In fact the build quality exceeds the PA scope in several areas, notably crispness of elevation/windage adjustments, and the quality of the illuminated etched reticle, which unlike the PA 1-4x scope, does not "bloom" the entire glass on higher power settings. The scope even includes a nice, solid centilever mount that puts it smack dab at the perfect height for the majority of AR rifles.
I thought it was a nice enough scope that I ordered a couple more, even though I hadn't decided what to do with them yet.
https://www.amazon.com/Centerpoint-1-4x20-Offset-Picatinny-Reticle/dp/B00AL1Y2IY
While this is probably not something you would want on a SHTF type rifle, so far it has done the job as a basic 1-4x that's affordable enough ($60) to top off several different non-essential rifles.
So far I have one living on a Sig 522, and another that has fared well on a 20" A4 clone. I was curious about whether or not this scope could handle .308/7.62 NATO, and after reading a handful of reviews that confirmed that it would without problem, I decided to see if I could adapt one to use with my Zastava M77.
To pair up with the M77, I wanted to try one of the cheap copies of Midwest Industries mounts before I considered dropping big coin on the real thing. I already have a genuine MI Gen 1 rail mount and a Chinese copy of it, and I could hardly tell the difference between the two. So, I went ahead and ordered a Chinese copy of a similar MI product:
https://www.amazon.com/FIRECLUB-Arrival-Release-Aluminum-Platform/dp/B01N98AKCK
The reviews were not great but I smelled a lack of understanding in how the mount works or is meant to be used, so I said fuck it and ordered one. If it didn't work out I was only out $30. When I received the mount, I found it to be solidly built, though the latch mechanism is a bit grittier than the previous MI mount copy I had purchased on Amazon.
Most here probably know that the MI style mounts can be easily modified to clamp on to the Zastava rail, and that took me about 5 minutes to mill out with a cheap 1/4" end mill in a drill press. The mount then slid on and indexed on the lower rail of the mount.
However I also found that the threaded clamping stud was hitting the side of the side rail, and needed to be relieved until it was flush with the surrounding inner surface of the mount. Otherwise, the mount did not fully clamp down square and flat onto the side rail. I removed the threaded clamping stud and ground a flat section on a bench vise until it was flush when inserted. Another 5 minute job. The mount now slides on and clamps securely to the Zastava side rail.
With the scope installed in the mount, it sits a touch just to the right of the centerline - this may vary for each individual rifle. Peering through the scope on 1x, the reticle is directly above the front sight post, and appears to be centered, but this will possibly change once the scope is zeroed.
The scope rests far enough forward that relief is good at all magnificiation levels using the 8.5" version of the ACE modular stock.
Shown in the photos is the scope set to 1x with the reticule set to maximum red illumination - there is also a green setting which I prefer not to use.
UNFORTUNATELY - this combination did not work out with any other AK I tried it on - I tried it on Bulgarian, Russian, and Romanian variants, and on each one the rear housing of the scope hit the top cover and prevented the magnification from being adjusted. However as you can see it appears to be almost perfect on a Zastava AK.
All in all this appears to be a good way to top your Zastava rifle with a cheap 1-4x optic. If some of you are interested I'll post back in a couple of weeks once I've had a chance to get out the range and get zeroed, and to see if the optic holds up to .308/7.62 NATO. If it holds up to this cartridge fine, I would expect no issues on a 7.62x39 or 5.56 Zastava.
Mid cap vs hi cap is really just preference. Mid caps are more realistic, don't make any noise, and don't need to be wound. Hi caps are easier to load and hold a lot more ammo.
UTG makes some good optics. I have their Magnifier and short dot, and their red dot is pretty popular as well. If you want cheap, the Field Sport red dot is supposed to be pretty solid. Bushnell and Primary Arms are on the higher end of micro red dots, at least for airsoft. I have the Primary Arms and it's real nice.
Well the only similar sight that I know of is the Russian version, and I doubt that it's affordable or even exported to the US. The Russians had their older PSO-1 (4x24 unfortunately) and I think HK made a similar mount back in the day. The Aimpoint RDS is a popular red dot that you can then magnify with a...think its called a pineapple mount?
http://www.amazon.com/Mako-Magnifier-Reflex-Sights-Generation/dp/B001LZV55C you can hook this one up to a flipsight and pretend you're in call if duty.
Aimpoint makes the same thing but demands a much higher price I'm sure.
http://www.amazon.com/EoTech-G33-STS-BLK-G33-Magnifier-Switch/dp/B008CXKX7M you can buy the real thing and OH BOY ITS HALF OFF but of course operator gear comes with a huge price tag.
Trijicon makes a 3x version of the acog for 1k, lmao
http://www.amazon.com/Firefield-3x-Combat-Gun-Sight/dp/B006GOK5BI firefield makes a cost effective sight with only so-so reviews on amazon, google shopping brought up 179 reviews averaging at 4.5 stars. Has a small top rail for diddlies, bonus.
I found some other cost effective sights including a copy of the eotech flipsight but it appears that you get what you pay for in the realm of combat sights. You can buy a pretender that works well at the range or you can buy the milspec stuff. There are plenty of good consumer grade options outside of the military stuff but it's up to you. I personally haven't used any of these but of course its hard to go wrong with EO or Aimpoint. Will update this post with more links, at this point I'm just saving ya google time though.
Heres a Vortex 3x that holds a zero at 100 yards according to the top review, but I'd hope people are going to shoot farther out than that with a magnified scope...
http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Spitfire-EBR-556B-Reticle-SPR-1303/dp/B00HYRGNLM
And heres the eotech flipup clone:
http://www.amazon.com/Sightmark-3x-Tactical-Magnifier-Slide-Side/dp/B004TDPVBW
If you head to primaryarms.com and click on scopes, there's tons of choices there for 3x or 1-4x all at pretty affordable prices.
Zeiss and Trijicon make rifle scopes that hit 3x but ofc those aren't combat sights and the eye relief is going to be small.
A forum posts mentions that you should keep the scope mount below 12 inches so that it doesn't interfere with charging handle operation, keep that in mind if you didn't know. From the same post, someone uses a primary arms 1-4x scope and is happy with it. Once again but a combat scope though.
That's everything that I could dig up, had nothing better to do so there ya go. Hope that helps ya.
Kit list:
Rifle:
WELL Remington 700 (W700)
CVLife 3-9 x 40mm Hunting Scope
MFH Universal Quick Adjustment Sling
Pistol:
ARMY R17 (3rd Gen)
Other:
Blackhawk CQB Canvas Belt
Blackhawk Nylon Hip Holster - Black, size 8
CONDOR MA23-002 Double Pistol Mag Pouch
KS Black Grip Tape
My kit so far. The W700 has had it's issues, but nothing a bit of elbow grease and time haven't fixed. It now shoots like a dream (Appx 400 FPS), and groups tight. I love the inconventional 30rnd stick magazine that runs parallel to the optic. They're super light and don't give me any feed issues. Originally the rifle looked like this, (Thanks UK Airsoft regulations), but a little Matt black paint sorted that out pretty quickly. The only other real adjustments I made was to fit two tiny rails for the scope, and remove the front iron sight. It just didn't look right with the optic attached, and I don't plan on using it without the scope anyway.
The R17 runs like a dream too. Only issue I had with it was that the ABS frame felt a little too plastic-y and would slip in my grip, so I added small strips of regular scooter grip tape to the main points of contact. The strips on the rear of the pistol grip need glueing, along with the one on the trigger, but the others have stuck fine. Might refit them after giving the lower a matt black coat in future. Also had a problem with one of the WE Mag's not feeding correctly, but I fixed that with a little filing down, and some lube.
The belt rig is super light, and I'll be attaching a water bottle, small medkit, and a utility pouch in future. Also going to be running with my 5.11 Rush 12 backpack with whatever other gear I need. I'll post a full loadout picture when I have everything, including clothing.
need magnification.
there are plenty of bushnell, bsa and simmons scopes that should do the job just fine for 40-50. the bushnell banner for example. it wont have the clarity of a vortex, but they will hold up fine against a 22lr. they dont have the no question asked warranty that vortex does, but if its not user error, they will still replace it.
that said, if, when im ready to pull the trigger, the vortex goes down below $100, like it has before, ill go for it, cause it would definitely be a great scope with great clarity, and the parallax would be setup for the ranges id be shooting squirrels at(50-100)
So Brownell's was selling these Howa Barreled Actions for $264.99 plus other people in the gundeals thread added free shipping and $20 off codes, so I got the barreled action for $270 after FFL transfer fee. The stock was pricey but is a quality item, free-floated and has an aluminum bedding block running through most of the stock to add rigidity. Cost of the stock was a gundeals unfriendly $270, but you can definitely feel the increased quality of something like the Hogue overmold stocks. Overall, as someone who had this build in mind before the deal was posted I am definitely happy with how it has turned out.
Price breakdown:
Barreled action: $270
Stock: $270
Scope Mount/Rings: $40
Scope: I had the scope from a clearance sale at cabela's, think I paid $60, currently $130 on Amazon but any 1 inch tube scope would work, I figured Nikon also being Japanese it went well with the Howa.
Overall Cost: $640, definitely could have finished it for cheaper but the stock is really nice IMO, and the action has a sub-MOA guarantee that I don't doubt. Way better than the Rustington 700s that are being sold for $600-700 at the big box stores...
UTG makes some sights that are good enough to use on real guns. I have their 4.2" ITA red/green dot on my KWA SR7 and it's great. Sturdy and stable, holds zero even after rough handling, looks good.
Bang for the buck wise, the best sight I have is this generic one. It's a red / green cross hair and for $17 it's pretty amazing - no parallax problems, adjusts easily and keeps its settings, basically just does what it's supposed to.
I like reproduction sights for their looks, but a lot of them have issues like a dark sight picture, alignment problems, etc. Like the two EOTech clones I have work just well enough to be useful, but the picture is like looking through sunglasses, because that's a side effect of the cheap reflector technology they use. Neither of the sights I linked above have that problem. Inexpensive sights that are not designed for airsoft typically work better as actual sights, although obviously they don't look as cool.
If you want something eotech shaped because it's eotech, that's understandable for a loadout designed to replicate a particular look, so just ignore this.
If you want a REALLY well built reflex sight with an eotechish "look" for a good price, check out the Sightmark Ultra Shot QD These are reflex sights for actual firearms, so I'm sure that they will stand up to gbbr recoil (I've not used one on a gbbr myself, admittedly, I have an aeg).
I own one and it's rugged as hell. It's got a huge window for a great view, a qd system that works great and seems to keep zero (though I don't detach it often), and all the standard requirements, like good battery life, multiple brightnesses (looks great outdoors in direct sunlight), and multiple reticle choices.
I'm thinking of buying their slide to side magnifier too, but I'm just enamored with the dual scope loadout prospect, I don't actually need the magnification.
I want to own a real eotech someday (an xps3-2), but I'm not inclined to spend 300+ dollars on a sight. yet.
Edit: The one I have, and the one I linked first, has the digital switch and QD, but I guess they also have the older version which is cheaper. If the build quality is the same, which I suspect it is, it could save you some money.
Second edit: I didn't see the post where you said you already have an eotech replica. I'd be real surprised if it had a problem with gbbr recoil as it's really very slight in the grand scheme of things, but who knows where amazon got it, so I can't say for certain. Try it, and if it doesn't keep its zero, try something else.

Let me know if any of you are interested. If you buy both of them at once I will give an extra discount. As mentioned earlier, these are in like-new condition, only have around 150 rounds or so through each of them. Selling so I can put the money toward a Browning Cynergy! Thanks
Hey! I have an M&P Pro, I installed an Apex comp trigger kit in it - to do so required removing the rear sight, you're absolutely right you have to remove the set screw on top of the sight and then drift it out (which I found to be nearly impossible by hand, either my dove tail was crazy tight or something was holding it in - I used a lot of kroil and purchased/used this sight pusher from amazon to get the job done. You might have better luck moving it than I did, but heres a couple of videos on YouTube which is a great resource, good luck!
On my backup gun I run this Pinty reflex sight. It's cheap and gets the job done. The adjustable brightness is a nice touch if you're playing in a dark/light environment.
On my main gun I run the Bushnell TRS-25. Definitely the best bang for your buck. Great construction and a super clear and sharp reticle.
Try the UTG Tri-Rail mount and the NcStar 2-7x32 scope, great combo.

I'm mounting this on a '43 Izhevsk Ex-PU sniper. Mount is solid and the scope is clear. If you want to be cheap there is also a 3/8 in dovetail under the rear sight base. Use that scope though, you need the long eye relief. Pretty good reviews, and clear glass.
I would spend a little more on the scope, the prostaff rimfire II is a fine rimfire scope but you'll have parallax problems under 50 yards and you'll never use the BDC reticle.
I LOVE the nikon target efr. It has a precision reticle, being a 22 you're likely shooting at smaller stuff which means you want less reticle to get in the way. It's also parallax free down to 10 yards which is a huge bonus. It's only about $80 more.
https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Prostaff-Target-Precision-Reticle/dp/B007PXVR5C
I did a scout scope on my mosin (though instead of using the picatinny rail I just mounted directly to the 3/8" rail beneath the rear sight). I used this scope with these rings. I've been very successful with this method. The scope sits just perfectly above the rifle, gives me a really nice sight. It's honestly brought new life into my mosin, made it even more fun. Holds zero, goes up to 7x magnification... can't really think of any downsides.
Lasers are only used with night vision, and messing with your cat. If you’re ballin on a budget, here are some good options for you.

There are triggerlocks, but they don't fit on or between any triggerguard.
And I must ask, why such concerns? Do you got kids?
Gun safety is always a good idea, but if you don't cock your airgun, which just can't happen on accident, then it won't discharge or do anything. And carrying around your gun cocked and loaded is never a good idea and you shouldn't do that anyways.
I've never heard of a thing like a lock that prevents accidental cocking or something.
Only thing I can think of are old timey Walther rifles and the Weihrauch HW 35, which has a thumb lever you need to push in order to break the barrel.
Every Weihrauch and lots of other guns also have build in safeties that engage, once the gun is cocked and lock the trigger to prevent discharge.
And there are lots of attachments. Of course there are reflex sights and ACOG style sights as well. Only ACOG style sights I know cost more than 80€.
You can get reflex sights for 20, but those have a messy red dot that's so big, it will block your target at any range farther than 10m
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004HICPHW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1450714846&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=Utg+red+dot&dpPl=1&dpID=41y92FiIIxL&ref=plSrch
I've only heard good about ^that^ UTG one.
Otherwise maybe a compensator or moderator for airguns. Both help a bit with accuracy and the moderator muffles the sound a bit.
The long range subreddit has tons of opinions on scopes, but if you're looking for a fixed power scope your needs are not what they'd advise. My brother uses the SWFA 10x https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-12x42-tactical-30mm-riflescope-105770.html
And he likes it OK, though he wishes he had a variable magnification. If you're willing to pay $1k I recommend
Bushnell DMR : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006UKMDFO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_fvZwDb5DKNC00
Or vortex PST:
https://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-viper-pst-gen-ii-5-25x50-riflescope-black.html
Or Athlon BTR : https://www.opticsplanet.com/athlon-optics-4-5-27x50-exposed-side-focus-30mm-aplr3-ffp-ir-riflescope.html
I'll definitely get hell for saying this because, but I disagree with the notion that a person must spend as much or more as their gun on a scope. I've used my Bushnell 3200 ($250 CAD) for quite a while now and I'm able to get my rifle out to 600 yards or so on a good day, and around 500 yards on a bad day. I've tried nicer scopes and while there's undoubtedly a difference in glass quality, I use the 3200 specifically because I prefer mil-dot ranging with 1/4 MOA windage/elevation adjustments.
I can go into further detail if you'd like, but basically using a mil-dot scope in conjunction with MOA adjustments allow a person to estimate ranges with just their scope. No expensive rangefinders, no dependency on electronics whatsoever- that's why I use the mil-dot + MOA system.
Here are two videos explaining each-- Ryan Cleckner's explanations are perfect for anyone new to shooting.
I'm convinced that the whole "spend an equal or greater amount on a scope than your rifle" ideology began as a not-so-subtle marketing tactic that ended up with a cult-like following. The same goes with the whole "two is one, one is none" mentality with guns/knives/etc. If you can spend a lot on a great scope, go for it-- but if you can't, a scope like the 3200 isn't going to cripple your shooting abilities. Technique is far more important.
Honestly, unless it's an emergency, there's no rush to buy a 91/30 online. Raid the stores near your house or wait for a gunshow to roll around your area so you'll be able to inspect the rifle before buying it. Gotta be careful with 70-year old rifles that go for 90 bucks online. You might pay a bit more (honestly, any difference in cost might be negated by FFL fees) for brick & mortar but the peace of mind's worth it.
As for the scope mount, you don't have to actually bother purchasing anything extra. The rear sight base is removable (two pins hold it in place) and once you slide it off it reveals what's basically a 3/8" dovetail mount. Plenty of YouTube vids explaining how to do it.
Once you have the base removed you can slap some 3/8" scope rings on there and mount a long eye relief scope that doesn't require bolt modifications. I myself use a NcStar 2-7x32mm pistol scope, $40 on Amazon.
It's up to you whether you want the recoil pad. The rifle does have a bit of kick (the heft on the full-size one negates this a bit), but it's nothing you can't get used to.
ATI stocks are generally OK quality (I've got one for my Marlin 60) and decently priced but unless they're something drastically wrong with your furniture I wouldn't bother. There's plenty of aftermarket furniture available for purchase if you cruise online shops.
If you feel like getting your hands dirty, you can refinish the stock yourself (not as hard as it sounds) and make it look like what it did back in the Great Patriotic War. I'm planning on refinishing my whole '42 Izhevsk when I get back home.
Not bad. That ~$17 scope looks halfway decent. Also, night vision scope for $200. It's only gen 1, but that seems like a pretty good price.
Really pleased with this mount. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009ZKHD3S/ref=pe_175190_21431760_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1
Solid as a rock and mounts well to the dovetail. I left my rear pin in and filed a little off of the mount so that the pin acts as a stop bar. If I cared a little more about looks I'd have drilled holes instead. But honestly it doesn't need more than the included stopper as long as you drill a small impression for the pin. Also Pleased with this scope if you are looking for that too. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FH6M00/ref=pe_175190_21431760_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1
My Vortex Diamondback has 3.1-3.5" of eye relief. Seems a bit on the short side, but generous enough I would think for 223. Most of the other scopes I was looking at were within 3-4 inches as well.
I'm not sure which mount to get, cantilever or scope rings. I know the height has to be pretty high just because the stock is in line with the receiver and not offset.
What do you think of one of these? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QITM3WK/

Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 FFP ERS
Honestly if you want a good cheaper magnifier go for the sightmark:
http://www.amazon.com/Sightmark-3x-Tactical-Magnifier-Slide-Side/dp/B004TDPVBW
They have a great warranty, are very clear, don't hurt your eyes, and are made for real steal guns.
Just purely curious why you went with MRAD.
I know I want a 30x50 ffp scope, I think I want a Christmas tree style reticle. Not sure on the magnification.
I've only really shot a 308 ar10 athlon
6-24 FFP at 100 yards. It was zeroed to 100 so there wasn't any hold over or adjustments needed.
And that seems like a good starter optic especially for the price.
But like I said I still really haven't figured the optic out.

It all depends on what you would use it for. If you "don't need [it] to be adjustable" then you may have just answered your own question.
Parallax is or at lest can be important for rimfire optics. Most scopes that are not parallax adjustable, like this 1-4 Crossfire II, have their parallax set at 100 yards. Rimfire specific scopes without parallax adjustment usually are set closer in at something like 50 yards. I find it best to have an "adjustable optic" or "AO" designation for a rimfire scope. But you obviously can make hits just fine with a normal, 100 yard parallax scope on something like your 10/22.
Vortex makes a Crossfire II 2-7 Rimfire model that sales for close to the Crossfire II 1-4 VPlex sale price.
I just got this one and I’m really happy with it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EWAAWGU
I’ve only taken it out once and didn’t take any hits to it, so I can’t speak to durability, but it seems like a tougher design than most reflex sights.
I did need to get a riser for it though and went with this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075S3DZGY

It's awesome that you labeled everything in the pic. But what's up with the rail on a rail for your M&P 15 Sport? And is UTG really the best optic for that? I mean Nikon makes a 3x9 that's a little over $100... Just trying to make you aware of other cheap but good options.
I went Diamonback HP 3-12x42. I am shooting 130gr Hornady SST
Sited it in for 200 yards and love it. Mine was averaging 3077 fps at about 10 foot with the Hornady. I also put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it and you barely notice any kick, its great.
The Diamondback that was mentioned in this thread would be great, but personally for a bench gun I really like the Primary arms 4-14x FFP scopes. They're a little more pricey but they're awesome. I use one on a benched AR10 and it's amazing for the price.
Here is a link:http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-4-14x44mm-riflescope-acss-hud-dmr-308-223-reticle-pa4-14xffp308
Some people also rave about the Athlon Argos: https://www.amazon.com/Athlon-Optics-Riflescope-Illuminated-Reticle/dp/B0157N4640
These are getting out of the price range, so you can look at the Burris Fullfield 2, which should be about 240 right now on sale: https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/burris-fullfield-ii-45-14-x-42-riflescope#repChildCatid=3294808
Outside of that, I think it's really hard to find anything in this price range that makes a good bench scope. Vortex makes a 6-24 Crossfire 2 (SFP) but I personally hated my Crossfire 2 scope and others complain about the clarity at higher mag. The Diamondback would be a little bit more bench oriented as it's heavier, has AO, drop reticle, and larger FOV.
Wow, that's pretty. Can I ask what the specs are?
Not sure what Reddit thinks about Nikon glass but here's something with some more magnification and a solid warranty:

OK. To me Pennsylvania looks to be mostly green, not tan. Therefore I recommend you purchase green equipment which will suit the various types of camouflage you might want to switch between over the course of the seasons.
I personally don't recommend SCARs at all; I think they're failure-prone and poor value for money compared to ARs, but if you want one, you want one.
That said, I would recommend that you purchase:
Equipment | Model | Price | Comment
---|---|----|----
Eye Protection | Revision Desert Locust Fan Goggles (Foliage Green) | $149 | Affords maximum anti-fogging capability.
Eye Protection | Revision Desert Locust Thermal Lens | $28 | Affords maximum anti-fogging capability.
Lower-Face Protection | Matrix Mesh Mask (Ranger Green) | $13 |
Shirt | Military Surplus UBACS | ? | Choose a camouflage pattern suitable for your area.
Jacket | Military Surplus | ? | Choose a camouflage pattern suitable for your area.
Rig | Haley Strategic D3CRX (Ranger Green) | $180 | Everything you'll ever need and nothing you don't. Candidate for lower-price replacement.
Rig | Haley Strategic MP2 | $40 | Makes for much faster insertion/extraction.
Pack | Haley Strategic FlatPack (Ranger Green) | $135 | Integrates easily with the D3CRX and will carry things like water, spare ammunition, food and batteries. Candidate for lower-price replacement.
Gloves | ? | ? |
Trousers | Military Surplus | ? | Choose a camouflage pattern suitable for your area.
Belt | ? | ? |
Dump Pouch | ? | ? |
Primary Weapon | VFC SCAR-L (Tan) | $268 | Airsoft SCARs, with the exception of the costly TM Recoil Shock, are almost universally deeply flawed. If you want one, you want one...
Mid-Cap Magazine (x6) | G&P 130rd Metal STANAG (Tan) | $72 | These are metal-shelled and reasonably high-quality. Plan on carrying four in the chest rig and one in the gun, plus a spare to keep in case of failures.
Optic | VisionKing 1.25-5x26 Short Dot | $66 | Excellent quick-adjust low-mid-power scope.
Optic Mount | Element LaRue SPR-1.5 | $40 |
Vertical Foregrip | MagPul RVG (Dark Earth) | $24 |
Sling | ? | ? | Vickers-style quick-adjust 2-point strongly recommended. Work out how you want to attach it to the SCAR first.
Battery (x3) | Turnigy Nano-Tech 2000mAh 2S (7.4V) 15~25C LiPo | $33 | Batteries are grossly overpriced from airsoft retailers. These packs will fit the SCAR but aren't necessarily the biggest that will fit; I recommend waiting until you have the gun, measuring the compartment, inputting those measurements into HobbyKing's LiPo finder, and choosing the largest (mAh) 2S (7.4V) Turnigy Nano Tech pack you can fit into the gun.
Charger | Turnigy E3 Compact | $13 | Basic balance charger.
Battery Tester | Turnigy DLUX Tester/Balancer | $12 | Displays state of charge (preventing you from dropping below a safe voltage) and balances the cells in the pack for longevity.
| Total: | ~$ |
I mean, that's without a single upgrade in the gun - which really should at the very least have someone correct the AoE, do a re-shim (possibly requiring replacing the gears), possibly replace the bushings, perform a flat-hop, fit a Gate PicoSSR3 MOSFET, and convert the gun and batteries to Deans connectors.
Which of these two scopes would work the best for plinking/squirrel hunting. Yes, I know they are both Chinese crap, but I don't have much money. Any good deals in $25-30 range?

A pre-installed mosfet/etu is the best you're gonna get for trigger response at a lower price. All the aftermarket drop-in mosfet/etu system are quite expensive relative to the price of that g&g r8-l.

I'm guessing the battery that it comes with is the 9.6v nimh? a 7.4v lipo will be far better for trigger response (at least as far as you can get with a small budget). Lipo batteries can be had for ~$10 each on hobbyking, and a basic smart charger will only cost you between $15-30, depending on what features you want.

The "scope" that it comes with is just a cheap red dot sight. You can find plenty of affordable and reliable red dot sights on Amazon or ali-express (example).

The bundle might be convenient, but it's definitely not the best route you should take.
Any specific models that compete with the Razor?
I have the older Bushnell Elite Tactical Illuminated G2DMR on my RPR that I like, but this build feels like it needs something higher end. I saw that Bushnell has a newer elite tactical too that I was curious about
Get the sight pusher if you think you might own more than one Glock or if you might want to experiment with a couple different sight setups.
I've got one pretty much like this and it's more than paid for itself.
Edit - There's also this one for the front sight. I have this, but it was really too deep for me, so I filled most of the socket with Gorilla Glue and it's perfect now.
Here is what I use on my airsoft guns.

Something like a SPR style mount mount would fit nicely. I'm not too familiar with repros since I mainly use real steel stuff.
Going from basic rings to a decent mount will do wonders.
I just came across this and thought I would share.

Amazon Prime has the fixed 10x elite mil/mil scopes for $223. With a 25% discount it comes to about $167 shipped.

I've got a Vortex Crossfire 2 on my rifle. They make a similar version for .22 rimfire with the parallax at 50 yards. It's a great scope imho and a fair bit cheaper than the Vortex Diamondback. The eye relief on the two is different though. I'm not sure if you're looking for something with a specific eye relief, but it is something to take into consideration.

This will probably be my next purchase. Always having 3x zoom isnt the best...
I just went through weeks of research to try and get a scope on my mosin and although I was on a budget I think I have a nice set up coming.
I used a rail to replace the rear sight and then bought a long eye relief scope. I spent $70 ish all total and I think it should be accurate to about 150 yards.

There are very expensive shit replicas and very cheap usable optics. (Basically an Eotech replica is expensive for how crappy it is. Go with something that’s a super simple rectangle/ circle of glass up front that’s not inside a tube or housing)
I’m really liking my Dagger Defense red dot. In fact here is an Even cheaper priced version that’s identical: https://www.amazon.com/Pinty-Reflex-Holographic-Different-Reticles/dp/B01EWAAWGU/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=red+dot&qid=1564699160&s=gateway&sr=8-11
I also used a $18 red dot from Amazon.com (basically one of the 100 Walther Red Dot knock offs) and actually liked it better than some of my real steel ones!
$250? You have approximately three (two of them are rebranded scopes) choices:
Bushnell Tactical Elite 10x: $200 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NKY6DU/
Primary Arms 4-14x FFP: $230 http://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_4_14X44_FFP_Scope_p/pa4-14xffp.htm
Midway exclusive BSA 4-14 FFP(clone of the primary arms scope): $250 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/456482/
SWFA 10x: $300 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GR79BGY/
The Primary Arms and BSA both have resettable turrets. But, you can't fully reset them to the bottom. Only where the zero marker is in relation to the current revolution counter hash mark.
I have two Primary Arms 4-14s and they are a good value.
I have a V-tac 1-4x20, which is also branded as a Centerpoint at Walmart and sporting goods stores.
I swapped the mount to a slightly higher 1.5" mount. It works surprisingly well for being so cheap. Sweet FAL action.
For a clamp on suppressor look for a KAC style ones. The ICS one has O-ring you can remove to fit larger flash hiders.
I think this would be a good mount. Aero Precision makes good products. https://www.amazon.com/Aero-Precision-ULTRALIGHT-SCOPE-MOUNT/dp/B00JVTD4EK/
As far as I can tell, the engraving is done by laser so it's incredibly shallow. Feels smooth to the touch. Not enough depth to fill it in.
The light is an el-cheapo from Amazon - surprisingly bright and fits well. Wouldn't necessarily trust it for duty or carry but it works well enough for my purposes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BZPJRC
I don't think I'll be needing rapid detachment. This look like a good option for me?
The KIDD receivers are billet aluminum. Yeah, I need to get off my butt and order one. It's going to be fun for sure. For the build I already have:
I'm just going to buy the rest of the KIDD stuff (trigger pack, bolt, etc) to finish the gun out. I'll most likely be upgrading optics too at a later date.
I have a four of these on various guns, and am very pleased with them for the money. I have them on a .270win, 35rem, 444marlin, and a 450bm. Weaver makes nice rings, don't cheap out on your rings or it doesn't matter how good of optics you have.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMX8RIE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yes
Optic looks like this or a clone of it.
i found the 35 dollar amazon ones work pretty well. i went somewhere to get my sight pushed back in and it was gonna cost 35. this did the trick in 10 minutes.
For $0.90 more you can have free purchase protection and cash back from your CC company.
Should have mentioned I live in Canada... U.S. won't export scopes to us, and no canadian retailers carry SWFA. I did however find this scope on amazon for a very reasonable price. May I ask why you suggest fixed power? 10x seems low to me? I'm new to long range shooting but most guys I know have powerful scopes.
i already have the trs-25 at the moment (it will go on my ruger 10/22) i just wanted a magnified scope to easily reach out and hit targets a bit further away ill check out primary arms thanks!
edit
how about this primary arms?
If you want some links, I own both of these and they both work nicely for Nerf.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EWAAWGU
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YRIHYIW
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016X5STKS/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1451327489&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=sight+pusher+tool&dpPl=1&dpID=41rBKKCPgwL&ref=plSrch that'll probably work, as long as you have some basic experience with hand tools you can figure out a way to use it without marring your slide or sights. Most of the people who complain about these universal tools couldn't figure out simple things like having to flip the slide around to use the beveled side of the pusher when putting the sight back on.
https://photosolve.com/main/product/xtendasight/index.html
You can then buy any red dot sight(RDS) that fits that style of dovetail. I bought this one. I use it for sighting in the 200-250mm range depending on the lens. Best thing I ever bought for my DSLR setup. The Telrad would be way, way too heavy for a shoe mount. The setup listed above works just as well as my Telrad on my 12" Dob.
Edit Btw, if you order that rail from photosolve, order the dovetail adapter when you place it. I don't need it for that setup I listed, but you may for another RDS you find. From what I could see you could only get the adapter while purchasing the rail so it's better to have it than not be able to get it later.
Nah i don't own the Leupold. It was the optic i wanted but like oyu said, i think i had 30mm rings. They didn't have a mount for a Tikka t3 in stock so i didn't buy the Leupold. I ended up buying a vortex Diamondback HP https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYRGTES/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got a 10/22 carbine for Christmas (one of the Shooting Store versions http://www.ruger.com/products/1022Carbine/specSheets/1240.html).
I added a Nikon Prostaff Target EFR 3-9x40 AO (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PXVR5C) with the Nikon A-Series Medium 1'' rings (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMX6BTQ) and took it to a local 50 yard range last week to test it out and zero-in the glass.
I was happy with the gun and the scope but unhappy with my cheek weld.
Just today I installed a Matthews Fabrication Bear Paw Right adjustable kydex cheek rest riser (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O0IOKOA). It feels really solid and allows me to get my weld in just the right spot.
I haven't ground down the bolts or taken it to the range yet, but I'm very excited!
Please just buy it brand new off Amazon for $19 more here
This scope is $312.93 brand new from amazon.
Mods, please let me know or delete this if commentary on price is not allowed.
It's a budget optic, good for plinking and .22LR. The maker says it's rated for shotguns, so throw it on a HD shotgun for cheap?
Amazon reviews at bottom
Get one of these and don’t look back. You may be able to find a better price on it elsewhere.
https://www.amazon.com/Aero-Precision-Ultralight-Scope-Mount/dp/B00JVTD4EK
I've heard good things about the Visionking 1.25-5x26 shortdot and the UTG Leapers 1-4x28 scope.
jesus. should i hop on it? Just built an ar with iron sights only HNNNNNNG do want
edit: ok i bought it and this mount https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QITM3WK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a problem with being attracted to overpowered scopes. Here’s the one I mentioned if you’re interested. Maybe you can get a coyote from 500+ yrds out.
Athlon Optics , Argos BTR, Riflescope, 6-24 x 50 First Focal Plane (FFP) 30 mm Tube, Illuminated APMR MIL Reticle, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157N4640/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KTH.BbJNCZ7TQ
I use this UTG DS3840
The quick detach is nice to swap to a different rifle if needed, but is solid when it's on.
I have a slightly beat up Sightmark 3x with flip to side mount if you’re interested like this
I haven't priced all the rest but the scope is super overpriced.
Scope new is $330, mount new is $200 at most.
Asking $550 used for the set is madness.
Looks almost exactly like this $27 BSA one.
Something like this.
The OP mentioned a scout mounted scope, which is usually put on rifles like this. Not good for ARs since you'd have to put it on the handguard which moves independent of the barrel/receiver (unless they are monolithic). Pick up one of the 1-4x options (Cross fire II is a good price) and an Aero SPR mount.
I got this, this, this, and this. If you're doing it only once then it may be worth it, but if you're gonna do it for multiple sights then you might wanna get the tools.
http://www.amazon.com/CVLIFE-Tactical-Reticle-Crosshair-Hunting/dp/B007UT3OFC/ref=sr_1_2?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1421427457&sr=1-2&keywords=rifle+scope
The scope looks significantly better than what was in the picture and is extremely common on BB/Airsoft. I have no idea what you're talking about clarity. Of course, you're seeing the scope through a camera lense, but there is nothing that makes me think this scope is over $50.
Here you go! You can't go wrong with 197 five star reviews! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BZPJRC/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0016N3HMS&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0K1Q52XA1EK898FWYMNW
I got this one. works well for flat sided slides. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016X5STKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_CtHcyOJ24N8dW
I got you on the short dot homie.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AL1Y2IY/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_23?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I ran one on my 5.56 AR for about a year till I sold it. I had to re-zero every 1000 rounds or so but it was never bad
If you want an inexpensive bipod (cheaper than a Harris), go with a Caldwell XLA in the height range you need. If you're shooting prone, go with a short one; sitting a taller one.
For a cheaper scope, I'd go up about 20 bucks and get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Crossfire-Rimfire-Reticle-CF2-31001R/dp/B00794LKMW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422678287&sr=8-2&keywords=vortex+crossfire+ii+2-7
Vortex has one of the best warranties in the industry. If you drop your gun and break the scope, they'll send you a new one. New, used, purchased through an unlicensed retailer, it doesn't matter- they will replace it.
Alright, good to hear I've got a chance.
Here is the mentioned $25 scope (which seems to have dropped in price). Maybe you could tell if it's "airgun rated". I sure as hell can't.
What optics do you have mounted on your gun? Seems like a year of shooting is durable enough for me at low enough prices.
You're most likely not going to have any luck finding a $20 flashlight for a 1 inch weapon mount.
EDIT : This may work
>generally regarded as trash and so is the vast majority of Amazon optics.
What you buy matters, not from where:

https://www.amazon.com/Trijicon-Illuminated-Horseshoe-Ballistic-Reticle/dp/B0024MMRH6
Not quote under $30, but I bought this one for an AR: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QITM3WK
It's just for plinking, and kind of a parts gun, but it has held on pretty well.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax
Vortex makes a 2-7 rim fire scope that I would highly recommend.
Vortex Optics Crossfire II 2-7x32 Rimfire, Second Focal Plane Riflescope - V-Plex Reticle (MOA) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00794LKMW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1gNDDbDW1F0WY
All scopes worth a damn look that way. This one looks bigger because of the lens covers. Here's a quick one I took without them.
CLICK ON ME!
I bought mine off a Swedish retailer (I assumed you were American, because, you know, Internet), but you can get it off of UK Amazon, if you want to.
This is the one I have on my Mosin:
http://www.amazon.com/NcStar-3-9X40-Black-Scope-SFB3940R/dp/B000FHBQWOhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FH6M00/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's not the greatest scope ever, but if you get it mounted good it stays true. It'll do until I decide to drop some more money in it and get a bent bolt.
Edit: I linked the wrong scope. It's really 2-7x.
https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optics-DBK-10015-Diamondback-Riflescope/dp/B00HYRGTES
Something like that is a good choice. If you're dead set on sub 300, they have a 2-8 in the same line that's substantially cheaper; that's more than enough for deer at 200 yards.
There are really so many options. But you can start by taking a look at this one https://www.amazon.com/Athlon-Optics-Riflescope-Illuminated-Reticle/dp/B0157N4640/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8
?

How would you say it compares to this one? http://www.amazon.com/BSA-30mm-Red-Dot-Scope/dp/B000N8MZOI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1XN7300TEYZ74QKJXQXJ
Was it this? I was looking at that too but some of the reviews said it would zero and stuff.

I have the same scope coming in shortly, I'm pairing it with the Aero 30mm SPR mount.

Should I get this oer the primary arms?
I own this, but haven't had it long enough to comment on its durability. Can't beat the price though.
Pistol and Rifle Led Flashlight/Quick Release Weaver by NcStar
Mostly externals, i got a Vision king Short Dot, some canted rails and a knockoff mbus sight, Some UTG Max Strength Picatinny Rings (med but high might be better), and a plano gun case. Might get a new forgrip and grip eventually, and a metal receiver but i want to do internals next.
This is likely OP's scope.
Simplest explanations tend to be the most likely, so I'll put it bluntly: That's a shitty scope with indifferent manufacturing and unknown quality.
Get a Burris rimfire, Sightron rimfire, Leupold rimfire, or other dedicated rimfire scope. It'll set you back about $100, but a $20 scope that can't be dialed in doesn't really represent cost savings.
I have the same rifle (but my wife wont' let me touch it until Xmas day) , going with the Nikon Prostaff EFR
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Prostaff-Target-Precision-Reticle/dp/B007PXVR5C
Seems to be a decent balance of quality and price.
I hear nothing but good stuff about Vortex optics also so check them out too.

Is this enough scope for 100 yards of squirrel hunting?
Look into 1-4x20(24) tubes. Here are some that are up your alley.
I'm afraid it doesn't get much better than this.
>From the feedback on this sub, it seems obvious the general community thinks I should just get a normal scope, pay a lot for it, and forget the style.
This community is generally driven by purpose rather than aesthetics. Rifles are mostly bought for their performance and not their looks. That isn't to say that style isn't important but there are limits.
I got this one. No complaints, does what it should and it hasn't broken yet. This one looks alright too. Doesn't make sense to me to spend much more as I'm not a gunsmith.
The NC Star optic he referenced costs all of $45. Dunno what your $700 dollar solution is, but it isn't that scope.
Maybe you could just work on shooting with iron sights first before you mount an optic. Two or even three hundred yards is totally feasible with open sights. Hell, if I can get expert ribbons at four hundred yards with an M-16, you should be good to go. Just practice more, the ammo is cheap enough.
Ok...so with the exception that I posted, they're garbage. Not going to nitpick this into the ground, not interested in being 'right' on the internet. Examples of said garbage:
http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Green-Sight-Adaptor-Flip-Open/dp/B004HICPHW
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005UGIPUQ/ref=pd_aw_sim_200_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41lwQpLA92L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C86_&refRID=033305SB2323RTRH310Y

Etc etc etc. this is the crap i'm referring to.
For the difference in price I'd go with the Aero ultralight mount. $75 all day for around half the weight. 3 oz isn't a lot but the ounces really add up when they're stacked awkwardly on the top of your gun.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JVTD4EK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517512502&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=aero+ultralight+30mm
And you said:
Laser sights
Scopes
And "assault rifle additions"
Were all somehow federally regulated. You are wrong about that.
