Absolutely.

For your controller needs, if you want to use a DualShock4, DS3, Wii U Pro Controller or WiiMote, all you need is a mini Bluetooth dongle and a driver such as DS4Windows (google "[controller] driver windows"). With the proper driver they should be supported under most games, but they might require a button mapping tool to work with some stuff (we can help you with that).

If you want to go the easy route and have a controller supported by most games with no driver configuration as soon as you plug it in, an Xbone controller is your choice. However, it will require a special M$ dongle to work wirelessly, and be warned that this dongle only works under Windows 10. Alternately, if you can live with some inferior design features, you can get a 360 controller (which still works with nearly all controller games) and its corresponding dongle, which has the added benefit of working with all Windows's back to XP. However, be aware that both of these controllers require AA batteries rather than the rechargeable packs found in DualShock/Nintendo. You can buy a rechargeable pack for Xbox controllers but it obviously costs extra.

All of the aforementioned controllers will also work over USB with any operating system.

Now to the second part of your question. I assume that you mean you want to play on your TV–this can be accomplished one of two ways and is easy to setup. The first and most obvious way is to simply keep your PC in your entertainment center and hook it to your TV over HDMI, in much the same way that you would your PS4. Steam's Big Picture mode tries to emulate the homescreen of a console to make controller navigation easier, and does a pretty good job of it. Coming from the PS4 interface I'm sure you'll feel right at home–but you do still need a KB+mouse to get in Big Picture from a cold PC startup. This shouldn't be an issue as there are many cheap wireless keyboards with inbuilt trackpads on offer.

The second way is to use a Steam Link. This is a very handy little set-top box that will stream video input over the internet from a PC in the house–if you've ever heard of the PlayStation TV, this is similar. In order to use the Link you must have fast (at least 10mbps; check using speedtest.net) Ethernet on both ends (your PC and the Link) and a controller that connects over USB (either thru a USB cable or a USB wireless receiver. The Xbox receivers mentioned in a previous paragraph currently don't work with the Link but Valve says they are looking into it). It's very simple to setup–hook the Link to internet, plug in your controller and HDMI cable for TV connection, and pair it with your PC. Then you'll have total access to all your controller-supported PC games from the couch, with no loss of graphics.

Also, as a PC gamer, I have a word for you–there are some games that do play better with KB+M, especially shooters. Trust me, once you try something like Call of Duty with a mouse, you will never be able to go back to aiming with controller sticks. If you want this benefit but still find KB+M uncomfortable, there is the Steam Controller which features a more accurate trackpad in place of the right stick, and will work with most of the games that an Xbox controller works with.

One final word. If you are actually, legitimately serious about getting into PC gaming–please for the LOVE OF GOD do not buy a pre-built one. BUILD. YOUR. OWN. Seriously, if you are looking to surpass consoles and get value for money, I CANNOT stress this enough. Although it may seem daunting at first it's really little more than high-tech LEGOs–/r/BuildaPCforMe will furnish you with a parts list so you don't have to bother with that, and then the build will take two hours tops (even if you're inexperienced). There are tons of great videos on YouTube that will show you how–this is my personal fave, although I do advise you not to use any of those parts since that vid is considerably old.

If you have any questions feel free to reply to this and I can help you out.

I kinda know what you mean about Browns. I tried them at a store and they just don't sit right with me, but I think (for me) it's more because they felt kinda...lame? I started using Blues on a Das and then tried Blacks for a white and tactiles just felt like an uncomfortable middle ground. That's all opinion though, and why recommending switches can be hard.

I have a little spiel about Topre I like to throw out every time someone asks about them...
>Topre switches don't really compare to a Cherry MX switch. Some people will say they're like Cherry MX Browns or Blues but that kind of comparison doesn't really do it justice. It's really a unique switch. If you're using a tactile Cherry switch, all of them have their tactile point around the middle of the key press. Topre have them at the top of the key press and once you pass that point it's smooth as silk all the way to the bottom. It's also a fairly quiet switch. Cherry MX switches tend to me fairly loud if you're bottoming them out and with the way they're designed you're not really suppose to. Topre switches bottom out with a soft "thock" noise, and they can be a little difficult to NOT bottom out. Unlike a rubber dome or even Cherry MX board, bottoming out a Topre switch is fairly soft if you're typing "properly" (not jamming on the keys very hard). They even make a Type S "silent" switch which makes bottoming out Topre's even quieter.

If that sounds appealing then you might actually like Topre. Originally I didn't think you would because you weren't too keen on Browns. On the HHKB...I dunno if I would go that big immediately. I like my HHKB, but I do think people revere the thing a little too much. The Type Heaven is a pretty easy way to see if you're actually going to like the switch or not, and if you don't then you're not stuck with pricey board. Topre is only going to get cheaper to try in the future, but the Type Heaven is easily the best way to try it out right now. I dunno who you were trying to buy it from, but Elite Keyboards sells it through Amazon. Probably the easiest way to buy it.

Black keycaps are a love/hate thing. I have blanks on my HHKB but I have lettering on my 104UB-DK, mostly because I doubt I could find replacement caps anyway. And they're expensive, being PBT and all.

I dunno either. I love my fullsize keyboards. There was a survey recently that had more people sing fullsize than TKL anyway so I guess it's just loud advocates. I do keep my keyboard and mouse on the same desk though.

If you wanna try Topre, I would jump on the Type Heaven over the HHKB. If you wanna try Greens, I would check out the WASD. If all else fails, you might just have to go with the Unicomp.

This post is a great starting point for anyone buying a dirt cheap mech.

There are no perfect keyboards in this price range though. Like someone said before, you seem a bit too concerned about quality for someone looking at the absolute low end of the market. No 35$ keyboard will ever compare to something like a Filco. If you're buying litteraly the cheapest board, you will have to live with some compromises.

Fortunately, there are very few truly bad or unreliable mechanical keyboards out there.
Just choose a keyboard that:

  • fits in your price range

  • is the right form factor for you

  • has the right switch type (generally you're looking at blue for clicky, brown for tactile, red/black for linear) - don't worry about switch brands too much, you won't really notice differences between the MX clone manufacturers on these budget keyboards, all switches are good enough, really

  • has the features you want or need (such as NKRO, removable cable, backlighting...) - only you know what your priorities are, so make a choice accordingly

  • is regarded as "not bad for the price" (most cheap mechs are) - this subreddit is a great source of information and should always be searched before making a decision, to see if people had any major issues or gripes with the board you're currently looking at

If a keyboard fits these criteria it's probably a safe buy. Worst case scenario you don't like the keyboard, return it and buy something different.

Also, don't forget about the used market! Buying a second hand mech is usually a pretty safe bet, if you can test it out before buying. If the keyboard is relatively clean and all switches work, it's often nearly as safe as buying new.

While you can definitely be happy with a 40$ mech, I'd try and save up some more if I were you. I know from personal experience that might not be easy as a broke student, but buying a mid-range product can often be cheaper in the long run than buying a low-end one. If you can save up to 60$ your choices widen considerably. For that price you can get past most of the compromises you're forced to make on the very low end and can buy a keyboard that you'll be happy to use for a very long time and won't be looking to upgrade as soon as possible. Something like the Plugable 104 will, if the clicky blues are to your taste, provide an experience that matches and in some ways exceeds keyboards from popular gaming brands that cost twice or three times as much and should, if you take care of it, last you pretty much a lifetime.

I know this might sound preachy, but I've been in a similar situation and firmly believe it's the right thing to do:

rather than spending hours scouring the web for the best deals on a perfect 40$ mech that doesn't exist, go out and try to earn that extra 20$ or more, so you can buy something you'll be happy to own and use for years to come. It might sound hard, but is in fact very simple if you're committed and not afraid to ask around.

I normally don't do color schemes, but I made an exception here ;) Best gaming cpu with best gpu, you can play VR and everything else on this. 16 GB of fast ram (absolutely enough) and a 1TB SSD, a solid board and case as well as a high quality psu. The build is overclockable.

For the rest, there are many options, but I selected good ones:

Display: Dell S2716DG, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260333, 144Hz 1440p and Gsync.
Keyboard: Plugable mechanical, https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Mechanical-Enthusiasts-Backlighting-Double-shot/dp/B01MA6O13L
Mouse: Razer Deathadder, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4RE4638718 - but there are so many alternatives you could get instead, browse a bit through the selection
Chair: I suggest a visit to Ikea, Markus is a great chair.
* Headset: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7NT5JA1563 + https://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ - that's a very cheap solution, but it is also a very good one. Dedicated Headphones are way better than a gaming headset.

While I agree that good peripherals can really improve your experience, everyone is gonna have different preferences. It depends on what you find comfortable, usable, and even cool.

So I'll just give you my preferences...

Keyboards: Most people love a good mechanical keyboard. You get a nice clicky sound, and most gaming ones come with tons of cool LEDs and macros and options. Depending on the type of gamer you are, these may or may not be overkill.

For me, I just like something quiet and sleek looking. DEFINITELY get one with backlit keys, cause this will make a huge difference playing in the dark. I use the Logitech K740. The other more advanced options will vary person to person. I wish that stores like Best Buy had more gaming keyboards on display to really get a feel for the options out there.

I also would recommend something like the Belkin n52te that I use (which Razer makes now). It's more comfortable, and you can have it in your lap for reclined gaming. Lots of cool options and combos with that one.

Mouse: Again, depending on the type of gamer you are, you may not need twenty buttons on your mouse. Comfort should be the biggest thing here. You're gonna be holding this thing for hours on end. Determine the type of grip that you find comfortable, and find a mouse that's made for it. Or, get a heavily adjustable one like my Cyborg RAT 9.

A lot of ppl criticize wireless mice for their response times or battery lives. But c'mon, even a 50ms response time is negligible to your reflexes. And changing a rechargeable battery every day is not a big deal for most people. I personally hate wired mice.

Headphones: Now here is where the fanboys start chiming in. There are so many brands and qualities and reviews out there that this may be the hardest one. For me, the biggest things are GOOD surround sound, wireless, GREAT bass response, mic/headset attached, and over-ear comfort. I've tried quite a few of these, but I currently have a Logitech G930 set and have been really pleased.

Hope that helps, I'm sure we'll get a lot more opinions here later.

u/Ravynmagi · 2 pointsr/Nexus9

I have a Logitech KT810 keyboard that I LOVE. It's almost full sized, has great feeling keeps, I can pair it with up to 3 devices at once, has backlit keys.

Of course the downside to that is it's not as portable and it doesn't have it's own stand.

I also have a Motorola BT keyboard that has a cover that folds into a stand. It's smaller, but still pretty comfortable to use. And always having that stand ready is nice. I got mine at a BB clearance sale for $20, so of course I love the heck out of it. Not sure what I think of the Amazon price though, seems a tad expensive.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Wireless-Keyboard-Device-Stand/dp/B006CFU61U

The Microsoft Wedge keyboard might be a better choice since it's only $50. I've played with one at a MS Store and it seems pretty nice. Kinda small though, but that's a pro and con.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-U6R-00001-Wedge-Mobile-Keyboard/dp/B008OEHPKM

And of course there are pretty cheap $20 BT keyboards around that maybe you could buy and use until the Nexus 9 BT Keyboard/case comes out. Which might be what I'd do if I didn't have so many BT keyboards already.

Okay, so I just got a Ducky Shine 5 w/ blue switches. I am 100% sure your cube mates would string you up by your toes, so avoid blue (great for home though).

1st option - Novatouch TKL - I purchased a novatouch and put hypersphere rings on it. Without silencing, it is still pretty quite. So I would definitely recommend if you are looking for topre. I know you said no to mods, but it would hit right around the 200 mark if you also got the hyperspheres and less without. VERY nice for the office and it would not annoy anyone. Plus, if you decide you would like to mod down the road, it is a very customizable board that will accept all MX and Topre key switches.

Novatouch TKL - https://amzn.com/B00MY3S288
Hypersphere Rings
Guide - http://imgur.com/gallery/iGzCV

2nd option - HHKB2 - I don't have one, but this will be my next purchase. It's $200, so a little expensive, but from what I can tell you are getting what you pay for here. It's not silent, but quiet. You can still do the same mod down the road if you are looking to make it even more quiet. They do have a type-s where it's silenced at the factory, but that would be closer to the $300 mark. One thing to really take note of and think hard about is the layout. You are definitely losing some keys, so you will be hitting the function key quite a bit. Not sure how that would effect you since you are a programmer.

https://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=pfu_keyboards,hhkbpro2&pid=pdkb400b

3rd option - Ducky Shine 5 w/ Brown - The other option would be something like this keyboard. Full keyboard with all keys, RGB which you would probably want set to white or off since it's in the office. It will be louder since it's a MX, but brown should not be TOO bad. You will need to get some O rings though. That will help with sound dampening. Super easy to put on and nothing like the hypershere rings.

Ducky - https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1365
O Rings - https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1219

Take you time and if you have a microcenter close by, go try some keyboards out and see which one fits you best. Topre will be the most quiet, MX brown/Red/Clear will be mid level with o rings, and star away from blues/greens.

Hope that helps! :)

In terms of Cherry MX switches for an absolute beginner -

For gaming you want a linear switch for faster click registration and easier key presses. (Cherry MX Red)

For typing you want a clicky, tactile switch so you can feel the key presses and possibly make less mistakes. (Cherry MX Blue)

Cherry MX Browns are usually the middle-ground and preference for people who don't like the loudness or the full tactility of the Blues, but still want some tactility over the linear Reds. It does well for both typing and gaming.

Different manufacturers (Cherry, Kailh, ALPS, Zealios, etc) will sometimes call their switches different colors but the consistent factors are usually tactile, linear, or clicky. It can seem kind of crazy at first with all the different names but as long as you can recognize the base type of switch that you want, everything else will follow pretty easily.

The second common factor is switch weight, this is very much subject to personal preference so I would highly suggest trying some sample switches first but even then it doesn't really compare to using a board full of them. For my own personal experience I've tried all different kinds of weights and while I like the feel of heavy switches a lot, I don't think that they hold up to extended periods of use unless you reaaally like heavy switches. They can be tiring on your fingers and it's not something I think most people would enjoy powering through. There's not really any benefit to going heavier other than your own personal enjoyment so if you feel like it would take getting used to, I would just go with the regular weight switches.

If you're wondering why Kailh in particular, the switches that they make are very similar to Cherry MX's but they're smoother and just feel so much better than their Cherry MX counterpart (Most Kailh switches are named the same as the Cherry MX versions). They also have a new-ish version of their switches called the BOX and all you really have to know about the BOX vs regular is that the BOX's just feel smoother than the already smoother regular Kailh switches.

If you're going to be gaming and typing I would go with the Kailh BOX Browns, it's the same thing as the Burnt Oranges just not so heavy. :

Please also be aware that you can't hot-swap switches in the KBparadise V80 and if you get the Kailh's you either have to solder them into a board or buy a hot-swappable board.

This Team Wolf Zhuque board, although not the prettiest with the lights on, is really well built and the metal casing really makes a difference in how your keys feel. It is hot-swappable meaning you can just use the included tool or tweezer out the switches and swap them to whatever you want.

https://www.amazon.com/Team-Wolf-Swappable-Mechanical-Keyboard-Blue/dp/B01AFBJQA8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538166099&sr=8-1&keywords=team+wolf+zhuque

The only other hot-swap board on the market I'm aware of is the twice as expensive and half as built Glorious PC Gaming Race board. It looks nicer and it's full RGB but the plastic housing feels very cheap compared to the Zhuque.

To sum it up real quick, if you're going with KBparadise V80 go with Cherry MX Brown. If you're going with the Kailh BOX Browns get the Team Wolf Zhuque.

tldr; get an HHKB

When you start looking as low as $200 you have to really know what you are looking for in the laptop, as conventional laptops do begin to compete in this price range with other devices. As /u/Orangematz said, used/refurbished is definitely a good fit for you, unfortunately I don't know that I could give any specific suggestions in this area. However, if you want to buy new, you may want to consider a Chromebook. You can't run Audacity on a Chromebook natively, but there are some alternative apps available to make this work (see this list for some options).

Alternatively, you mentioned an external hard drive. Do you already have one or would that be included in the budget? If you already have it, you can use this for storage and install Linux on your Chromebook to use Audacity natively (Having an Intel processor in your chromebook is necessary if this is your plan).

If you are feeling very adventurous, you could purchase a Raspberry Pi like the one here. This runs Linux natively and should be able to handle Audacity without issue, although it may take some tinkering to get up and running the first time, especially if this is your first foray into Linux. The Raspberry Pi 3 is missing three things that laptops have, keyboard and mouse, and display. That display only comes with a cigarette lighter power adapter, so you would need a 12 V adapter. Note that this solution has a lot of parts compared to one laptop, and the display is smaller and lower resolution than you are likely to get in a good laptop, so this is really a nifty solution to your problem that adds in a bunch of extra functionality (your display can play audio/video from USB/SD and can be mounted to the back of a headrest while your computer is a neat little hobbyist device that can have a bunch of different uses besides just computer), but not really recommendable if you aren't enthusiastic about those things.

For something along the same vein but slightly less adventurous if you don't feel comfortable with Linux would be to replace the raspberry pi in the previous solution with an Intel Compute Stick (comes with windows). Alternatively, the display can be replaced with a significantly better or somewhat better and significantly cheaper monitor if portability is something you are willing to compromise on (the Raspberry Pi/Compute Stick would still be very portable, but you would need to find an HDMI-enabled display to plug into).

In conclusion, buying used/refurbished is a good idea, but if you are open to it, the "microcomputer" market segment is starting to come up to par with laptops in this price range and could offer some interesting alternative solutions for you. Wow, that was a long comment.

I messed around with those Cherry MX boards, but then bit the bullet and got an HHKB. I wish I went straight for the gold to begin with. You have that chance. Yes, it's far more expensive than you probably expect, but nothing else compares to the Topre switches in an HHKB or Realforce board. I personally prefer the HHKB because of the size, removable cord, and the dedicated Mac mode. I also seem to work better with fewer keys and a robust function layer.

Your gift card will only cover half the cost, but think of it as getting the world's best keyboard for the price of a really good keyboard. Also, auto mechanics sometimes pay this much for just one tool that they will use far less than you'll use this. I bet you earn a lot more than the average auto mechanic, so why not treat yourself to keyboard perfection.

I have both the Dell case and one of these

The case from Amazon is great for the money but I like the Dell case best because when you fold it under the back and basically use the tablet upside down, the viewing angle is just right. The Fintie one is cheap and it feels like it but the Dell case is certainly over priced, problem is that it works best for me so far.

If you want a great keyboard, look at the Microsoft Wedge, it's small but useable and the cover can be used as a stand for any tablet.

u/thebrowngeek · 1 pointr/GooglePixelC

So, just wanted to update this thread. I decided not to purchase the keyboard or folio, just could not justify the cost.

In the end I opted for two solutions (basically to try out): a folio case and the microsoft foldable keyboard and a folio keyboard case. All three ordered from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Universal-Foldable-Keyboard-Android/dp/B00UBGU4PY?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s03 (USD40)

http://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-SmartShell-Case-Lightweight/dp/B01DF33HZ8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 (USD11)

http://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Keyboard-case-KuGi/dp/B017I3T930?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 (USD26)

So both set ups are are significantly cheaper than the USD150 cost if bought from Google.

Ironically, since purchasing from the States my laptop has needed to go in for repair, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to test out my new purchases so I could use the Pixel as a laptop replacement.

I've set the folio keyboard as the replacement and also connected a bluetooth mouse. Overall, pretty damn impressed with both the pixel and the keyboard (especially for the price). Now, lets not kid ourselves, I reckon the google folio keyboard would have been much much more better quality, but for the price that I paid for this folio, everything works generally fine.

Lets go through with the negatives first:

  • Its chunky (but expect that would be the case with the official one as well)
  • You can't just push the pixel into it like the official one (which benefits with the magnets)
  • when it sits, because its held by velcro, the pixel pushes down a tiny bit, so it doesn't sit 100% in position, but doesn't really matter
  • occasional connection issues with Bluetooth
  • have to charge separately via micro usb (so no self charging)
  • no trackpad (but don't think the official one has that as well)
  • unlike my laptop, due to the size of the cables provided, I can't keep the unit charged all the time

    but the positives

  • did i mention the price?
  • keys are pretty good and solid and clicky
  • keyboard sits well

As for the other combo (microsoft keyboard and folio), this also works pretty well, have not tested it so much though, but can foresee using it when travelling. Its a bit of a pain to click into the folio, and a shame that it doesn't use magnetic strength of the pixel, but probably a cost issue.

Biggest issue with these third party solutions is that they don't make use of the pixel c's magnets and self charging, or at the very least usb c.

thing is, when I do get my laptop back, don't really know how much I would use the keyboard, unless when travelling.

Yes, I totally agree the official keyboard options are going to be much much better on every level, but still can't justify the price, unless I end up using a keyboard all the time.

I do have photos of the folio keyboard and will upload these later.

Hello, guys. New to the mechanical keyboard scene and looking help with deciding on which I should get first among the four that interest me the most!

  1. Topre Heaven

  2. Topre Realforce

  3. Das Keyboard

  4. Unicomp Model M

This keyboard will be mainly used in an office setting so it would help if the keyboard I get won't be too loud.

I'm leaning a lot more on the Topre Heaven keyboard but I've done some research and it looks like PBT keycaps make a lot of difference that the Heaven doesn't have but the Realforce does.

The realforce I linked is the style that captured my eyes the most but I couldn't find more info on this specific type.

The Das keyboard is also a strong competitor since I've always wanted one and at a lower price point, it is very tempting. Aesthetics wise, I do think that the topre realforce one looks much sexier.

The Model M I believe would be the noisiest one in this bunch. If anyone has any feedback on this that would be great.

And that's it! Any help would be appreciated!
u/Rvby1 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Heya, guys! I'm hoping to place a purchase on my first mechanical keyboard fairly soon, but I'm still not entirely sure which one I want to purchase, since there are so many options. I've narrowed the switches down to brown or blue, though the latter seems like it's better for what I want to do: both all around gaming and typing. I like tactile feedback, and while I don't think I'd mind the clicky-noise, I'm not so sure about it working as well in future settings. In any case, I definitely want to get a full size keyboard with some basic multi-media keys. My budget is in the $150~ range.

Currently, Das Keyboards (1, 2) are looking pretty slick, but things like Ducky's Shine 4 is also pretty appealing. What would you guys recommend going for?

u/Steveenn · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Depends on what you mean by best. There are so many great options. The QFR is a great cheap board. the Novatouch is great if you love Topre but don't want to get rid of the customizability. The KUL ES-87 is a very high quality board. Realforce boards are great if you love Topre. The Model M SSK is great if you love Buckling Springs but don't have the desk space for a full sized Model M. Don't even get me started on the custom TKLs...

u/g0atmeal · 1 pointr/buildapc

I can attest to the quality of Corsair's keyboards, I personally love the K70 and K95, and have heard well about the strafe. With the K95 I like the macro keys and I quite like setting each game to have its own color/macros with my setup. Though, it's definitely overpriced and I wouldn't recommend that model. I've also heard good things about cooler master, ducky, and das keyboards, but I'm not sure what they usually go for and the status of their rgb/customization. I just know that they make good mechanical boards.

Since you plan to be both gaming and typing, I strongly recommend getting a keyboard with MX Brown switches. The one you linked are MX reds. The key difference: red pushes down with linear force, which makes it feel more responsive when gaming. However when typing it can be annoying because it can sometimes be unclear if the press registered, depending on your typing style. Browns: have a force "bump" halfway through, where you can very clearly tell the input registered. Blues have this even more so, to the point where it's more of a click. General rule of thumb: reds for gaming, blues for typing, brown for both. This is not a hard rule. Therefore, I suggest getting something like this: LINK It's a key switch tester that will let you feel the difference yourself. Using a device like that, I decided on browns for myself. If you've got any questions, let me know. You can also post to /r/mechanicalkeyboards where you'll get plenty of help.

As for mice, there are a lot of factors. I'd suggest expanding on your desires/budget or making a detailed post over at /r/mousereview where they can help you out.

It can be overwhelming deciding on products like these, so the first step is to decide what you want the end result to be, and how much you're willing to spend.

I think the g502 looks like complete fucking anus, love the fact there's a g302 and g303 available(not sure if they make the 302 anymore) that has the same internals and looks really fucking normal if I just turn off the RBG. So many awful looking 'gamer' products out there. Razer is the worst with this, followed by.. I'm sorry george, corsair. Their gamer products have started looking fucking awful.

There's some great things I've found that are still all feature rich or nice that don't look fucking awful. The g303 for instance is a GREAT fucking mouse(also better for my style of grip). Mousepad? I love my Roccat Taito. Keyboard? I have an old Topre keyboard from Belkin(no longer in production) and would move to https://www.amazon.com/Topre-Type-Heaven-104-key-Keyboard/dp/B00DGJALYW if it breaks. I already own this keyboard and it looks.. just fine and normal. It's a keyboard in the awesome keys I like.

I'd rather have https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-N-KUMARA-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01LXD7TP9/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1484111086&sr=1-1&keywords=reddragon+mechanical+keyboard before a blackwidow. A clone cherry keyboard less than 40 dollars. The aesthetics are.. just way better to me.

u/mrselkies · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Well, without going past $130 you're not gonna get something flashy looking, especially factoring in a wrist rest on top of it. Tell you what - I've got an extra wrist rest I never use, I can send it over to you. Go ahead and PM me your address and I'll shoot it over to you. It's not as long as a fullsize is, but it'll work for putting your left forearm on it for gaming. That'll take a considerable amount of the cost out.

Then, if you can swing it, go for a Ducky Shine or Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro L. They're both full size, RGB, and great quality - very commonly recommended in this sub. If you don't want to spring for the quality, you can find something cheaper like the Plugable keyboard - very cheap, but has clicky keys (cherry mx Blue, not Brown). Got this one for a buddy's birthday and he's loved it for over a year. As far as non-cherry/gateron switches go, Outemus are trustworthy for sure and that's what this one's got.

u/Just_Worse · 2 pointsr/laptops

The iPad pro allows you to connect to an external display, has a higher resolution and is more responsive, but if you want to use a tablet as an EFB, then you really don't need those things. An iPad Pro is perfect for anyone that needs a laptop replacement or a dedicated creative content device, but an EFB shouldn't need too much power.
If you need to do any typing you can use the on screen keyboard or one of these 2 keyboards. And If you're okay with Android, the Samsung tab A and S5E would serve similar functions (assuming software compatibility and company policy doesn't restrict device brands) while being a little cheaper $200 and $400 respectively (depending on where you get them) as well as the S5e supporting external monitors and Dex mode (which essentially turns your tablet into a laptop in terms of software looks).

TLDR: It depends on your company and monetary restrictions, but I'd go for the iPad Air for something so straightforward

g305 Mouse wireless and lagless.

Tecware Phantom Keyboard with hotswappable switches and it comes with a few spares.

That will get you a m&kb for right around 100 and I can vouch for the value of both of them.

PBT Keycaps: these make they keyboard feel a little bit better.

Acer X34 monitor that I got used

The speakers are some super old dell zylux a425 2.1 speakers that a coworker gave me. They aren't much to an audiophile but they sound great to me!

I sometimes will switch back to my TADA68 mechanical keyboard but I usually am happy enough with the Tecware. For the price it's a super nice keyboard.

Looking for a new keyboard my budget is around $100. I do not know much about keyboards other than what I read in the wiki. Currently I have my eyes on three keyboards that are pretty cheap and look pretty decent. If you have a much better alternative that blows everything else away for its price point let me know. However please explain why the keyboard is better than the ones listed for its price increase/decrease as I want to take it as a learning experience for future purchases & get the best bang for my buck. Somethings I am looking for in this keyboard is that it is a

-Mechanical Keyboard

-Wired

-Has separate function keys

-Durable / Can survive a few years of button smashing in world of warcraft

-Heard something about red & brown buttons being more satisfying for gaming so lets go with that

Extras (not that important)

I do not really care for lights on my keyboard as I would probably turn them off anyways, I like white keyboards but can live without it being white, and I like it when each key is raised and I can see underneath.

Hello,

I switched to vim as my primary editor of choice 1.5 years ago. Before that, I was using text editors mostly (Sublime Text) and working in web. And prior to that, I came from using IDEs with compiled languages. Today, I work with vim (GVim, i'm not in the terminal usually but it doesn't hurt my productivity at all to use straight vim) and c++.

The primary advantages to me were that I have a completely cross-platform editor setup that I can throw onto a machine or update in minutes. I was using mac/windows/linux daily at one point, so that was really important to me.

The main reason that I stepped away from IDEs, though, is because I feel that they hide a little too much of what's going on behind the scenes from you. When I started out developing in C++ in college, I distinctly remember wondering how compilation really works besides pressing Visual Studio's build button. How does managing a build system work? Managing dependencies?

So, when I re-taught myself C++ (which I'm now working in professionally, too) I wanted to do it from the lowest level. Just editing text, invoking the compiler myself, using CMake for a build system. I initially did it to learn how all the separate parts come together, but now I find that each of my tools individually are much easier to work with than when the IDE wraps them up for you as a whole.

Aside from that, a silly reason for enjoying vim is that it actually makes the act of editing your code kind of fun. It's kind of interesting how focused in coding you become when the actual act of typing out a bunch of code is fun. I'm even looking at this keyboard to take that a bit further.

Anyway, Vim isn't for everyone because of the time it takes to start being more productive than what you used before. But, if you're looking for something cross-platform, light-weight, and with an enormous amount of high-quality community support and plugins then IMO it can't be beat.

Happy Hacking!

I have serious hand problems from classical bass, so I know your pain.

The best ergonomic solution for me is an ergonomic keyboard microsoft sculpt. But beyond that, I use the Lamy Safari m with smooth Levanger Colbalt Blue ink (the triangle grip and the writing experience is an absolute DREAM when it comes to a smooth writing experience), A Uniball Vision elite (the grip is great for low tension), and a Pilot Precive V5 for my main spread. I've been digging the Sharpie pen, but my hand problems have also been getting better.

The main thing is begining to train your elbow or wrist to be an anchor on the table. I try to think of my writing as a relaxed but straight and firm crane hovering over the page.

You're going to need some good pens for this to work though.

Smaller mm sizes can still be smooth to write with.

The uniball signo dx .38 is fine but very smooth, for example.

A good, fine, flexible japanese nib will also be thin but smooth like the pilot metropolitan.

Desk: IKEA Linnmon/Oddvald. Pretty solid desk for the price, although leg room is a bit lacking, probably upgrading soon.

Chair: DXRacer Formula Series, really helped my posture and got rid of my back pain. Plus I'm a huge gear-head so it's very much my style.

Keyboard: Das Keyboard Professional w/ Brown Switches. This keyboard is fantastic, it's a treat to use every day, feels buttery smooth to type on and build quality is superb. I also have a CM Quickfire Ultimate that I use at work, also browns.

Mouse: Zowie EC2-A. Replaced my old Logitech G400 when it started intermittently cutting out, I think I like this mouse even more.

Mousepad: SteelSeries QcK+ for all that low DPI goodness.

Headset: Kingston HyperX Cloud II. I love this headset, it's super comfortable and has good directional sound.

Speakers: Cyber Acoustics CA-3602 FFP. I use my headset mainly but these are good enough for when I need them.

Monitors: BenQ XL2411Z flanked by two ASUS VS247H-P mounted on an Ergotech Triple Monitor Stand. Finally got the monitor stand this year after using two boxes to hold up my side monitors for far too long. However, the BenQ is probably my favorite purchase out of all of these, would've bought three if it served any real benefit to me.

Random Peripherals: uxcell extended power switch. I keep my computer under my desk so this is handy so I don't have to crouch under my desk to turn on my computer.

Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 5-Port PCI Express Card. My motherboard came with a fairly low number of USB ports so this allows me to plug in my printer and external hard drive, etc.

I can't speak for this keyboard but I have this logitech keyboard and it works pretty well, though the battery doesn't last long when I leave it on without use for an extended period of time. I bought a separate bluetooth mouse to go with it. Mainly I use it to use my home PC while I am at work. I highly recommend the Splashtop HD remote desktop app it is well worth the price for how good the picture is as well as the music, movie, and gaming streaming support.

Yep, old school Microsoft Natural Keyboard. That generation came in three flavors - The Natural Keyboard, the Natural Keyboard Pro, and the Natural Keyboard Elite. The only difference between the models was that the one you've got is like the base model. The Pro added a row of media keys above the function keys as well as a passive two-port USB hub in the back. The Elite model had no media keys and squashed the mid-block of keys to a two-column, three-row, configuration in order to save an inch or two of space.

The current iteration of this keyboard is the Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard. You can still find the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard and Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 pretty easily. The newer / flatter keyboards have gone to a chiclet / scissor switch / laptop style key, while the 4000 and older are the more classic stem-based rubber domes.

Feels more like Cherry MX Brown switches but with less travel. There's a tactile feel to them, but it's missing the audible click. It feels a bit mushy/sticky when you bottom out, which is impossible not to do. There is a noticeable sound when you release the key, which feels like an echo if you're used to typing on a blue switch board. If you're choice is between a regular membrane keyboard or nothing, then it's a good deal (unless you want something silent.) The switches can't be dampened with O-rings like Cherry compatible switches.

I ordered this TKL for $35 on a lighting deal yesterday. It's twice as much but I think it will be worth it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079HQM71L
There's also a full sized version available, albeit it's $55.

For something I can truly recommend that's not over $100, the G. Skill KM570 RGB with Cherry Speed switches is a fantastic gaming board. I got mine for $63 during a NewEgg daily deal this past spring. I was hoping this would be on sale again soon because I really want the brown switch version too.

I'd pass on it honestly, the description is sketchy since their describing what sounds like blues yet what their selling is a red switch, it uses the new style outemu red switches that have a boxed design that's supposed to keep dust out of the switch, honestly I have never had that problem though... outemu switches are not the best though, well their blues are amazing but all of their other switches are on the "meh" side, if you want a better switch experience you should go for something that has Gateron Switches, since Gateron has by far the smoothest linear switches (Assuming your looking for linear switches as you say in the op)

Also the board you linked seems to require software to drive the leds and other features, that is generally annoying since there's another thing that needs to be constantly opened in the background and if the app breaks or something and the devs don't want to update it your board is as good as dead and your down to a basic keyboard.

Honestly you would have more options if you where willing to go TKL, like the Drevo Calibur 71 or the Magicforce 68, best I could find you for basic backlit full size boards are as follows :

  1. Magicforce 108 (Fullsize 108 key, Gateron Red, White Backlighting, Media Controls) - https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlight-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01HGI7YN4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492312737&sr=8-3&keywords=magicforce+108

  2. Plugable Mechanical Keyboard (Fullsize 104 key, Outemu Blue, White Backlighting) - https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Mechanical-Enthusiasts-Backlighting-Double-shot/dp/B01MA6O13L/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492313246&sr=8-1&keywords=plugable+mechanical+keyboard

  3. E-Element Z88 (Fullsize 104 key, Outemu Blue, Swappable Switches, RGB Backlighting) - https://www.amazon.com/E-Element-Water-Proof-Mechanical-Keyboard-Anti-Ghost/dp/B01FXBZXFC/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1492313383&sr=8-21&keywords=mechanical+keyboard+rgb

Basically the last one was my "if all else fails" since you can swap them easily without having to solder.

Edit: All of the above are $50+, your probably not going to find a higher quality fullsize board with RGB for less than that, if your still constricted to your budget you should consider buying a second hand mechanical keyboard.

So I actually do use a tablet for school that I take notes on and actually have written a few of my reports on as well. Honestly, any tablet would be fine (I'm using a Sony Tablet S. not the Xperia Tablet S, just the Tablet S). What matters is the apps and accessories you use with it.

Apps

I study business, so I don't really need to do a lot of writing. Instead, i type most of my notes out on Evernote. When I do need to write stuff, then I'll use Lecture Notes, though there is a free alternative, but I can't remember its name right now.

Accessories

Unless you choose a tablet that comes with a keyboard (Like some of Asus's offerings, you'll want a portable keyboard. There are some case/keyboard hybrids for certain devices like the one for the Nexus 7 I linked. If not, I highly recommend (and use myself) the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android. As for stylus, I use the Adonit Jot Pro cos it helps me write in my cursive scrawl better than most other stylii. Of course if the tablet comes with a stylus, use that.

You mentioned getting a Note 8. I personally feel that might be a little small, and I prefer a larger tablet, maybe 9.5" to 10", just cause its closer to paper size, so it'll be easier to write on. So i'd suggest a Nexus 10, or possibly a Sony Xperia Z, and also the Galaxy Note 10.1.

The keyboard I've used for years, on windows, OSX and solaris machines has been this one: http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Y-RAQ-DEL2-Bluetooth-Keyboard-M-RBB-DEL4/dp/B01BL4NNZC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457031055&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+keyboard+raq-del2 . I'm currently using it as my my main input for my Macbook pro that spends all day connected to two external monitors with the lid closed.

I'm not sure if you can buy it anymore, but it appears there's a USB version of it here: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Enhanced-Black-Keyboard-SK-8115/dp/B00496FELQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1457031155&sr=1-2

It's definitely quiet enough to use in an open plan office, as that's where I am now.

The keyboard I use at home, which is even quieter, is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VAGXWK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

It's fine, but I like the more traditional key feel of the first two - I like keys that have longer action compared to the modern chiclet-style keyboards, and the raised keys of the first two allow me to use the heel of my left hand to hit the ctrl-key. Since the third keyboard has flatter keys, I can't use the heel technique on Ctrl as easily.

I map alt to meta, so I can use the heel and my left thumb for all the emacs operations without taking my fingers off the home row positions.

I want a full keyboard that is backlit and has media keys. I'm willing to surrender the media keys if it really limits my choices but back lit is almost necessary.

What i've liked so far:

This one has some merits:

Topre keyboards are the closest I can think of. They're pretty much a crossbreed between MX blues and rubber domes, so you get the best of both worlds. Expect to pay a pretty penny, though. The cheapest Topre keyboard I can think of costs around $180(Though CM calls them "exclusive hybrid capacitive keyswitches"), and HHKBs (the most well-known Topre keyboards) usually cost over $200.

If you can't afford that, I hear that the MX browns give a tactile bump instead of the click that the MX blues have. The MX clears are the same type of switch, but they offer more resistance (Tactile force of 65 cN and actuation force of 55 cN, compared to the 45 cN actuation force of the browns). The KUL ES-87 offers a tenkeyless option (no numpad) with both MX browns and MX clears for $130, and for a full-size keyboard, the WASD CODE features MX clears for $150. I recommend getting a switch tester to see which fits best for you. I hope this helps.

Before the XPS 13, I used 15" laptops by themselves. This time around, I wanted to try something different: something small, lightweight, and with good battery life while I'm on the go, but with a desktop-like experience when I'm at my desk. That's why I chose to buy an XPS 13 9350 and a WD15 (Dell's USB-C Dock). By plugging in a single cable into my laptop's USB-C port (laptop to dock), I connect my laptop to a 25" 1440p monitor, a mechanical keyboard, a mouse, power (USB-C can provide up to 100 watts of power), headphones, a microphone, a backup SSD, and a micro USB cable (for phone, Xbox One controller for emulation, etc). I also have a highly adjustable office chair with great back support. Then when I want to take the laptop somewhere, I unplug that one single cable, put the laptop in a perfectly sized sleeve/bag hybrid, and go. It's a rather nice setup, especially now that Dell addressed my USB-C stability issues in a recent BIOS update (version 1.4.4 that came out a few days ago).

You make a good point about charging all the time being bad for the battery, but the dock /desktop mode is a core part of my setup and there's not a way to use the dock without it charging the laptop. I suppose I could start unplugging the laptop from the dock each night before I go to bed. That won't entirely fix the problem, but it should help some while still giving me the benefits of the dock.

I've had a Corsair Strafe RGB for a few years and have liked it, but am realizing I don't really use any of the extra features (the software to set custom lighting is a major pain, and keeping lights on seems to produce a light buzzing noise in my headphones so I've just been keeping it off). Also, for the first time in 20+ years, I spilled a little onto the keyboard - was working fine until I removed the spacebar to wipe it up and replaced it, then it had a problem spamming space for a while (unplugged and left it for the night), then briefly holding another key, but seems like it works fine now.

ANYWAY: Magicforce 68 or Plugable from the buying guide, any suggestions? I don't care at all about a backlight and realistically I don't think I need the tenkey. The Magicforce one does look a bit silly but pictures with replaced keycaps look pretty nice. Open to pretty much anything, those two just looked like great value

And a really nice keyboard that was pretty cheap compared to some gaming keyboards https://www.amazon.com/Tecware-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B079HQM71L?th=1&psc=1

Don’t forget a mousepad though! It’s a pretty important part of a setup. (Try to get a nice big one)

Done a bit of research on Ergonomic mice and keyboards lately and I have to say that I'm very happy with what I went with.

If you're willing to go through a little bit of a learning curve, a ball mouse is a great way to go (though not for everyone and not for gaming). The one I have for now is the Kensington Orbit ($23). Though I'll probably upgrade to one of their wireless versions in the near future since I enjoy it so much.

And the keyboard (less of a learning curve) that I went with and am in love with (also not for gaming) is the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard ($59).

Heck, and while I'm at it I'll suggest a great (so far) cheap ass computer chair($80) I've been using as well.

You can also get switch testers online if you don't want to go test them out in a store, but it's obviously not the same as getting to type on a full keyboard. Good luck and I hope you get a keyboard you love.

>I type a few essays for school every blue moon, but that's about it.

Do not underestimate the convenience of having two windows open at the same time. Yes, you can switch between Safari and Pages/Word/whatever with a swipe, but it gets old quick.

Also: you're going to want a real keyboard to type an essay. You do not want to do it with the onscreen keyboard. Period. If you're not doing a lot of typing all over the place (library, notes in class, etc), then I guess that means you don't have to get a tiny keyboard, which is good news for typing comfort.

I'd suggest either the Universal Mobile Keyboard from Microsoft (no joke) or the K480 by Logitech. Both of them are nice to type on while still small enough to fit in most bags.

u/Day_Dreamer · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I have a friend who plays on the PS3, he says this keyboard is amazing: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-U6R-00001-Wedge-Mobile-Keyboard/dp/B008OEHPKM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1374023387&sr=8-2&keywords=microsoft+wedge

It's a pretty decent price for the quality. If you plan on playing with a keyboard and mouse, it's probably not the right decision. But if you are playing primarily with a controller, and just typing with a keyboard, it's definitely a good option. If you have the money to invest into one.

u/Metaldrake · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

With other Topre boards, you have the options of a Leopold FC660C(a compromise between TKL and 60%), Realforce 87U(considered one of the best quality Topre boards with a solid case as well as very good stock PBT keycaps), HHKB(the 60% of Topre, bit of an unusual layout that some people swear by), Topre Type Heaven (which is basically a budget full sized topre board)

The Novatouch is probably your best choice if you want to customise keycaps, considering other Topre boards have very limited keycap options unless you do some modding. If you don't care for keycap customisation, I would recommend you get a Realforce, their quality is undeniably amazing.

u/alose · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

You really should have posted this in the sticky thread.

Masterkeys PBT L is the best sub $100 option. Plugable is the best sub $50 option.

You did not mention switches which are the most important part. Switch preference is highly personal, and there is no right answer. That said, most people tend to like Blues if they can tolerate the noise.

I do recommend dropping the number pad and going with a TKL or smaller. Few people really need a number pad, and smaller keyboards are much better for you ergonomically. In which case, consider the TKL versions of the 'boards already recommended, or a Rantopad MXX.

I'm looking for a keyboard to replace my beloved Zippy WK-730 that I'm using at work. It's going on three years old now and starting to feel a little mushy.

I like the size of it; it doesn't take up too much space on my desk. I use a slim wrist rest with it, so I'm not married to the depth of it (although I really like how thin it is, aesthetically, I guess it's actually a hindrance to function).

After doing some cursory research, it would appear I have two choices in the mechanical keyboard space: Cherry MX Clear/Brown or Topre switches.

I'm pretty much looking at the CM Storm TK with Cherry Brown switches or the Topre Type Heaven.

I like my Zippy, other than the mushiness, and I use a wired Apple board at home. Should I even be considering these two mechboards or should I be barking up a different tree?

Has anyone here moved from a nice scissor like the Zippy or Apple slim keyboards to a mechanical and absolutely loved it? Conversely, has anyone made the jump and regretted it?

u/treefrog221 · 1 pointr/keyboards

Have you tried the Microsoft Sculpt ($60 - I feel I've seen it for a bit cheaper than this) ? It is very similar, but wireless with a split space bar and very shallow keys that are easy to press. My big issue with it was it seemed to flex a bit when I typed, especially when I pressed buttons high on the keyboard. However, I type fairly hard sometimes. They are often on display at large electronics stores, so you should try it before you consider it.

I also found this and this.

I would also recommend you look at r/ErgoMechKeyboards/.

If you have money to burn, I would consider looking into two-piece split keyboards like the Kinesis Feestyle2. I feel like those might allow a more natural wrist position.

The harmony smart keyboard or the mini controller? The smart keyboard is like a standard keyboard with a built in touchpad on the right side. And the mini controller is like a game pad size keyboard. I dont have the harmony hub at all, so would I be able to still use it?
The big thing for me is being able to switch easily from device to device, with either a switch or a button. Also, a smaller form factor would be nice.
The Logitech Multi-Device keyboards are nice because they have that device switching capabilities. Its the K480 and K780 bluetooth keyboards.

I've tried out the:
Topre Heaven - I was hoping for much better. The keyboard feels ancient and very heavy compared to other keyboards. Keys feel very stiff and the texture on the keycaps is weird and grainy. Didn't like it all, maybe personal preference but did not type as fluid as the Das keyboard or even Logitech 810.

"However, it wasn't for me. Here's why. I'm used to a Cherry MX Red board, lubricated and o-ringed. My typing (yes, typing on Reds) has adapted to it, and I can type for what seems to be forever without feeling any pain. I wanted to try a Topre board though from reading all the good things about them, so I bought the Type Heaven. I found I had to exert too much effort to type on the Type Heaven. Switching back and forth, I concluded that the slightly smoother feeling and the tactility weren't worth the money for me. But just because I found it too heavy doesn't mean you will. Actually some people on Geekhack found it too light."

and so on...

I would love a "classical" colorway like White on Black with the big SA font (as long as it's dye-sub and not engraved), or Black on White like Ice Cap.

You can't go wrong with Microsoft or Logitech. I myself have a Logitech K800, I love this thing. Then for a mouse I have a Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse, another amazing product. Both look sleek and sexy, function well, and haven't had any problems. Though it is over your budget, I would really recommend it.

I used to get horrible carpal tunnel. Trackballs still forced my wrist flat, didn't change the situation. Next I tried using a wacom, and I was still too lazy. The carpal tunnel just didn't leave.

Finally, I purchased a vertical ergonomic mouse. I cannot praise it enough. It's been two years now, where I've been editing more than I have in my career, and I haven't had pain in my hands/wrist/forearm.

I have the wired and wireless version of this Anker Mouse.

For $14, even if it doesn't work, it won't drain the bank. It takes about a week to get used it. You'll keep knocking the mouse over as you go for your short keys, but it doesn't take long to adapt.

Also, try to experiment with different arm positions. I'm right handed, but when I work my mouse is closer to my left hand, between me and the keyboard. I rest my elbow on my desk, and place my arm almost parallel to my body/keyboard. Push your keyboard as far back as you can so you can rest your left elbow on the desk, too. Here's a very detailed and accurate bird's eye view of my editing setup.

Basically, I try to avoid resting on my forearms. If my elbows hang off my desk, the weight of my arm will leverage my forearms/wrists/hands. Inevitably, I'll lift my forearms off my desk and place that pressure directly on my wrists. Anytime you bend your wrist upwards, that'll cause joint pain.

I would also suggest an ergonomic keyboard. I've been using this one, and I love it. Some people don't like chicklet keys, though.

Ergonomic keyboards will definitely take time to get used to, but they are, by far, the most comfortable way to type. Shortkeys are steep learning curve there, though.

I also love standing desks, but as a freelancer I don't typically have that option. The same is true with chairs. To compensate, I try to keep my shoulders back and back straight, but it's a constant struggle.

u/joke-complainer · 1 pointr/battlestations

Yes, that's definitely my downfall. I'm not getting rid of the mouse. I use the side keys (1-12) so much for the games I play, but I have a nice leather mousepad on the way, and I've just purchased this keyboard as well. Should help tremendously!

Thank you so much for your feedback!

The Pokemon: Typing Adventure keyboard works pretty great! And you can pick it up for pretty cheap nowadays.

Going a bit bigger and pricier, I can at least confirm the Logitech K810 works as well.

Setting the features aside I surprisingly find both of them to feel pretty similar when it comes to typing.

I don't know what followliker does, but if it's a program, you might have trouble running it on a NAS but I might be wrong.
If you're ok with a refurbished PC, an i5 desktop with windows 10 license can be had for ~$220 on amazon. It should be plenty powerful enough to run Plex, serve files, run backups, Xbox media center, some light gaming, social media automation software, etc.
Couple it with a wireless touchpad/keyboard + a DisplayPort to HDMI cable, the PC can be hooked up directly to your PC and serve as a home-media PC, so plex would only be used for streaming to your mac or portable devices.
Sharing a folder on the PC and accessing it with mac over home network is trivial. PC only has about 500GB though, and external USB HD would be required to expand capacity. (The refurb PC is a small form factor, and probably won't have extra drive bays for storage) And it uses more power than a NAS. 24/7 use might also be an issue, but for that, NAS or server would be required.
I have an i7 workstation tower I run like that - it's not constantly used, but it's almost always on. Been running fine for years - I would just make sure it's not inside a cabinet for ventilation. The whole set up can be had for less than ~$300 (without the USB HDs)
A good backup system always includes off-site (ie cloud backup) anyway. I would suggest looking into Amazon Cloud Drive for that.

u/AjBlue7 · 0 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If money isn't a huge issue, HHKB pro 2 is the best by miles. Not only does it have a compact layout making it easy to travel with, but it doesn't have the annoying high pitched sound of Blue switching, and the very loud mechanical sound of a buckling spring that will likely annoy anyone nearby.

Beyond that, it is still known as one of the most satisfying keyboards to type on because it gives a nice thock sound. It also comes in a dark grey with black legends which is less legible so I wouldn't get it unless you really think you will be able to master the function keys.

Unfortunately it will run you $200 on amazon. However I've seen quite a lot of enthusiasts that have like 10+ keyboards, half being custom hand built that cost $400-$600each, give HHKB the #1 slot when asked what their favorite keyboard is to type on. A lot of them use it as their daily driver, which is kind of insane as most custom keycaps can't be used on an HHKB.

Are you really getting downvoted for this? You're right. Running an HDMI to your room, which for some is nowhere nearby, and would need to be like 100 feet long is an inconvenience alone ($80). On top of that, you need to buy a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which are expensive and have limited range that may not even reach if your room or a place to play is far away ($70, and $80 for gaming ones). THEN, you are expected to have a monitor in your room, and if you don't, then you need to buy one, and a decent one suddenly makes this not so convenient or cheap (For one of equal size that has HDMI input, $190). That is about $420 (/r/im14andthisisfunny), which is more expensive, and even if you find cheaper parts (I just looked for well reviewed, popular ones, which are usually a good value), setting it up is a heck of a lot more effort. If you want to move the set up, good luck. While with the Shield, you can just pick it up and go. Also, like you said, it runs Android too, which has emulators for games, and tons of other apps not available for PC.

EDIT: Also, inb4 /r/HailCorporate. Maybe, juuuuust maybe, I don't work for a company, and I just don't like to see this guy downvoted for bringing up a valid point.

Also, I think I saved Roman from the injustice earlier when he brought up a valid point. From -2 to 8! I feel proud even though I probably had nothing to do with it.

I'm not sure what you mean by rgb since it's just a test kit, but this is the best one if you don't care about trying the less popular switches: https://www.amazon.com/AKWOX-Mechanical-keyboards-keyboard-Sampler/dp/B01G3BJOHO/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=cherry+mx+tester&qid=1573694040&sprefix=cherry+mx+test&sr=8-12

It comes with brown, red, blue, and black. Basically good for testing silvers too since reds are almost the same. If you end up liking the reds, you can just get silvers instead if they're a similar price.

Edit: If you meant one that comes with reds, greens, and blues, I could look for one but I don't know of a good one off the top of my head.

I wouldn't take jeans at all; SEA is pretty uniquely suited to anything BUT jeans in fact, since it's humid, hot, and rains often, which are all things that heavy cotton denim deals with badly. I really prefer to take synthetic or light cotton pants.

As for sneakers, I'd go for something light that dries quickly. Others might recommend waterproof, but I have big fat sweaty feet and I'd be fighting a constant case of swamp foot if I didn't have good ventilation. If it rains, I just deal with wet feet until I get where I'm going and then let my shoes and (light wool) socks dry overnight.

As far as something to write on, it depends on your budget and how much you want to haul around. If you want a full blown word processor and computer in a small form factor, I would argue the top of the line would be a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. But I'm partial to the platform.

Personally though, I would just use my phone or any small tablet (like a Nexus 7). Microsoft Office Mobile is FREE to mobile users, and I highly recommend pairing it with the Microsoft Wedge keyboard. It is small, light, easily packable, uses bluetooth, compatible with every device I've tried it on (android and iOS), has great battery life, runs on easy-to-find AAA batteries, and the cover doubles as a univeral tablet or phone stand.

A keyboard you enjoy using should encourage you to get better at using it the most.

For me it is Logitech G910's angular keycaps that make me want to type more accurately.

Topre is pretty decent for gaming I believe. It as the short actuation distance that people want from regular mechanical keyboards. At least it is good enough for CoolerMaster to want to make one.

I got this one to use at work and I love it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079HTZQYV

Paired it with some o-rings to help keep my co-workers sane and it was a really great keyboard for the price, especially with full rgb. Their software works great for custom rgb patterns too.

u/Slyons89 · 2 pointsr/hardware

If it makes you feel any better, I've purchased 3 Deathadders for $35 each. They might MSRP for $50 but they go on sale frequently. The mouse manufacturers know this.

On the flip side, high quality mechanical keyboards just keep getting cheaper. I got this one on Amazon recently and it's awesome, I like it way more than the previous Razer and Logitech keyboards i've had. And it's like less than half the price.

You probably won't get original Cherry MX switches and RGB for this price, so here 2 boards with what r/mk deems decent clones. Both of these are branded E-Element, they come with clicky blues and are compatible with pretty much all custom keycap sets made for Cherry MX:

  1. If you don't care for the color orange you can get the absolute cheapest RGB keyboard available now as far as I know, the E-Element Z-88 with Outemu clone blue switches (louder than their Cherry MX counterparts) which is on amazon for $52. Every key on it can be set to any of these 7 colors: Red, Yellow, Lime Green, Light Blue, Dark Blue, and Magenta, but that's it. No true RGB.

  2. If you want true RGB and like "floating keys" (visible switches from underneath the keycaps), the E-Element RGB keyboard with Outemu clone switches would probably be right for you.

You can get it in black for $66 from amazon,

or in silver for $80 from mechanicalkeyboards.com.

Massdrop seems to have a weird version of it with ALPS stems on the switches, which means that only ALPS keysets will be compatible with it.

Here are some gorgeous photos of it with a set of custom keycaps, also some discussion about the switches in the comments.

I’ve been using the Tecware Phantom for 4 months now . It’s ten keyless , has an option of outemu reds , blues or browns ( reds have a nice feel and are quiet so that’s what I went with ) and for it’s price it’s really good quality and sturdy with nice stock key caps . Here’s the link where I bought it . Only $46. Also has one of the best softwares I have seen for a cheap keyboard . Has many different modes and per key lighting so every key can be changed https://www.amazon.com/Tecware-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B079HTZQYV/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=tecware+phantom&qid=1573458410&sprefix=tecwa&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYS01QSUZKTEgyQlAmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAxOTQ0MzcyMjJQNkxDRURZU1MwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA2MjY1MTNXU01NQzVHWjlaSTkmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

The note4 is expensive, but very feature packed and worth it for many people (like me).

The screen is rather awesome, so if you take a bluetooth keyboard with you (folding), you should be able to type away.

Using the stylus is like writing with a pen, but it is short/lightweight, so if you end up doing more than a new quick notes, you'll want something a bit larger like what Bamboo makes.

u/Sergster1 · 1 pointr/ffxiv

You don't start over when migrating to PC as the accounts are linked and you keep the same progress.

Also I used this keyboard when I played on PS4 since its cheap and comes with a mouse.

If you want you can also choose to play solely with a keyboard on XIV but if you're comfortable with a controller continue using it. I've been playing on PC for the past year and a half after playing on PS4 for a year and I only use my xbox one controller for combo inputs. I can't build the muscle memory for KB/M and controller feels extremely natural for this game.

I personally have this keyboard and for the price it's pretty amazing and the keyboard is the least important part of a set up imo.
u/LoneKrafayis · 1 pointr/buildapc

I like brown switches, or red/low switches. You can get cheap tenkeyless units that really free up desk space for mousing. Every key that you should be hitting with your left hand is in the regular layout.

Velocifire Mechanical Double Shot Copywriter Programmer $30

When I am streaming with friends, I switch to the Logitech Atlas Spectrem RGB. It makes less noise, and I use the RGB to keep track of hotkeys. That board was discontinued, but they improved it a little and call it Logitech G Pro.

Logitech Mechanical Keyboard G Pro $115

For Mice I also have a cheap and a expensive. They are both going to be heavier then you like. They both have magnetic sides and an optional pinky shelf, as I hate burning my fingertips. The G.Skill Mx780 also has an adjustable palm rest. This G.Skill is used by a lot of YouTubers, like JaysTwoCents (in use in background). I assume it was a sample that they liked and kept (also see Roccat Nyth).

Coworker convinced me to switch, but for the time being I'm quite poor (eventually I plan to get nice custom keycaps and such). I'm feeling a tenkeyless 60% because I don't like having buttons I don't use. Here are a few of the budget keyboards I've been looking at:

Velocifire compact tiny itty bitty mini thing for $30: I'd prefer reds/blacks to browns, but the noise still shouldn't be too bad from this.

E-Element Z-88 for $45: The RGB looks a little ugly, but maybe it's just the pictures. Excited about the reds, but ideally I'd like it cheaper (I know this is already dirt cheap, but maybe cheaper is possible?). Also, would definitely replace the caps.

Tecware Phantom for $45: I can't tell for sure whether this comes with outemu reds or blues, but if reds, yay. This also seems to be easier than usual to customize later.

I'm not sure what brands are and are not trustworthy in the mechanical world, or if there's anything about any of these that I overlooked.

u/woodkeys_click · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Not a full set, but the Vortex RGBY modifiers set is nice. I have it, very good quality. There are also some NPKC sets like this and this. I can't personally vouch for their quality though. Beware it does look like they are shipping from China and will likely take a while to arrive.

u/lx-s · 2 pointsr/keyboards

Depending on the "lightness" of your gaming, I would recommend the
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard..

I do really like it - I find it nice to type on. it looks good and has really nice backlighting but it has one major flaw:
It has ghosting issues with the key combination w+shift+space.

So I can recommend to you if don't play any FPS games at all.

u/gobblegourd · 2 pointsr/keyboards

I would highly recommend a new Logitech keyboard. The Logitech K750 is fantastic (I used it for over a year before upgrading to a mechanical keyboard). It's solar powered; you literally never have to worry about charging it. There are no downsides to this. It really works well, even in my shaded room. The layout is great and includes a function key with plenty of media controls.

You might also be interested in the Logitech K810. It's tenkeyless, backlit, and uses bluetooth so you can connect it to just about any device including your phone or tablet. I haven't used it personally but considered buying it at one point. It looks pretty sleek and lets you easily switch between devices if keyboard shortcuts.

u/bi11y10 · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

Surprise Surprise. I'm literally typing on it right now. Google is a wonderful thing.

But seriously its a fantastic keyboard.

Edit: I actually owned the keyboard you linked for the original nexus 7. Its great if you want a key board and a case all in one, but the keyboard is pretty cramped. Personally I would go with the Logitech and a separate case for when your not typing with it. I suggest the moko slim fit case.

u/brianjking · 3 pointsr/mechmarket

Right here. I'm not saying yours is a bad price, however, I personally would buy a new one. I've already got a Pro 2 Type-S and JP both with Hasu BT controllers. Regardless, your HHKB is in great shape and not a bad price at all. Best of luck with the sale. :)

------------

This large ass post, what did I learn?

  • But before that, I wanted to go back in my life, and explore why I am the way I am. 11 weeks ago I wrote this topic to explore just that.

  • I had read a Psychology book 2 years ago (since I always wanted to learn it), called "Psychology in plain English". I learned enough Psychology there basically, everything I ever wanted to know. Proceeded not to look at anything psychology related for 2 whole years to today.

  • I decided, to finally accept my closeted gaming experiences and merge it in this post with my real life experiences. I thought, what the fuck, why not do a scientific study while I'm at it? So I basically diagnosed my own issues like a shrink would, at least I think I did, found out where all my problems were, found out that I'm a sociopath, found out lots of things.

  • So I decided to write a theory on everything I learned. Because why the fuck not? There's been no studies like this or anyone like me remotely in terms of similar experiences, so I figured i'd do something pseudo-science-y and make up my own theories about thinking. Like I read these self-help books like "7 habits of highly effective people" or "Choose yourself!", but I wanted to write my own but really, all they do is use ancedotes for everything. I haven't read a self-help book that was entirely an autobiography that also happened to be a bestseller on amazon.

  • So I made my theory up.

    ------------------

TL;DR short sweet version of theory

  • I went and explored how Newton invented physics back in the day, I went and explored the birth of science and history from cavemen times, the birth of linguistics, what twitter hashtags and evernote hashtags were related to that. And how my merging of two identities - my gaming pseudonym daphoenix, and my real life self, and the effects of it (no self-studies have been done here). I ended up writing a whole theory behind just that. I called it "Physical memory tag" or PMT for short, which essentially is how you associate objects in real life with your 5 senses. I called the other thing, your random inner voice thought process, as "Virtual Memory Tag" or VMT for short

  • To prove my theory, I took extreme examples in history, such as serial rapist, terrorists, feral humans, animal behavior, darwinism, social LBGT issues today, suicide bridge examples and testimonies, psychological studies, some studies on similar studies that align to mine from merging a gaming identity to real-self, how hypnosis works, explored how I got smarter over time despite being stupid as shit in 2nd grade, and then analyzed how my idea rates changed over time, with writing this post. Analyzed some of my dreams while I was at it. Basically, that's how I validated my theory-ish to some degree

  • Here's the results of all of that. http://imgur.com/hYvZCnv (there's more though). Its not easily understandable since I used lots of jargon. Basically, what I did was I think? reinvent psychology in my own terminology. Possibly. I think I may have made some psychological discoveries along the way. Dunno. Need to peer-review it though. I might publish a dissertation on this for fun though, granted I've never taken a neuroscience or psychology course, so I really don't know how right or wrong I am. Plus I'd need to do a statistical P<0.05 value correlation with a large enough sampling to prove my theories. Its not something I really care too much about, I mostly wrote my theories so I can understand myself better, and apply it towards learning. Which I do, mostly by having 5 reddit accounts in this thing I called MIND STATES. More on that later, it'd take awhile to explain

    --------------------

    TL:DR of post

  • Yap, so that's the story of my life. Sorry for the overkill statement, I hadn't condensed it into readable form yet and decided to do it with this post

    > I use the surface pro and it really is probably the best for ON. But I've also used a Samsung tablet with S pen that worked pretty well. It just had syncing issues constantly. So I broke it in a rage and saved up and got a surface.

  • Forgot to answer your question, But yeah the reason syncing happens is because on Samsung Tablet, its an app version, not a full version (Surface is a full version app). Syncing happens usually when you connect to wifi, at least that's how I remembered it worked. If you had a onenote App (say on your tablet), and a computer open at the same time, and wrote notes on both, syncing is really slow. I manually sync my work PC to my home PC

  • But, not everyone can afford a $300 to $2100 dollar machine, plus its risky carrying that around in your backpack. Might get stolen. Which is why in class, I'd still take notes via paper and pen. OR better yet, you could do this http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Bluetooth-Multi-Device-Smartphones-920-006342/dp/B00MUTWLW4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 + your smartphone. I've taken notes this way its actually pretty effective, cost $30, your still typing too but just using simple note formats. Don't even need a tablet. If you need to draw a diagram, use pen+paper, reference it in the notes, scan it later into there (1. just take your phone, 2. take a picture, 3. email yourself, 4. go home on PC see email, 5. +SHAREX screenshot, go to note, put link, your done). You can even filter your emails out you send to yourself. Its extremely fast and effective, and it backs it all up on your PC at the same time AND by email, plus you get great notes, don't have to carry a heavy expensive laptop around, and its very LEAN in nature (just carry a bluetooth keyboard that's all! and maybe a backup 3000 mAH battery to charge your phone). All together, those 5 steps take awhile to load up, but it takes less than 30 seconds overall to do the entire process, even less if your doing multiple photos / scanned docs

  • ^ At least, that's what experience tells me is the fastest overall and most useful reliable way of taking notes are. You could use a tablet too, like a cheap $99 one here too

    ---------~~

After school - Work -Haven't really succeeded in my work projects partially because I got lazy as hell by writing this post for 3 months instead, because this was a once-in-a-lifetime-breakthrough-thought process that wasn't going to happen again. Also, partly in the fact that no one really wants to invest in anything, so I decided I'd invest purely in myself instead. So I wrote this long post. I feel like I would've had some really deep regrets though if I didn't write this 600,000 -800,000 word post, its why growing up I felt "Deja-Vu" a lot, I just really wish I took better notes

Iwish I changed majors and took an extra 3 years of schooling. It made me really sad. I clung to my old ways for the first

I kind of regretted never starting a youtube channel, so in Guild Wars 2 (another really big MMO game), I decided

Actually honestly I never gave a flying fuck about my GPA, it just so happens that I could regurgitate information really well but not apply it. I did a lot of research in school (3 years) and learned that I really hate research. I simply cannot sit in one place spending like a hundred hours doing one sample preparation, it bores me shitless, because I could've done XYZ in those timeframes

Junior -> Senior year university, I had 3 internships accept me (I only really applied to 10, writing applications took forever and I got lazy), I took one with the Nuclear Regulatory commission(NRC), but

I felt like I didn't have any guidance my entire life and just picked a major that seemed to interest me, but I grew to really hate it senior year university.

I had a lot of social stigma issues in senior year university

I didn't pick the major I really wanted,
u/Quakemz · 6 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

You should check out the Plugable TKL. I have one I'm working on a review for right now. It's quite possibly the best board in the $50> range. Steel plate, doubleshot keycaps, white backlighting. It's hard to find all of that at this price range. There is also a full-sized version for $10 more.

The one downside is, because this line of boards is new, it only comes with Outemu Blue switches currently, which are okay, assuming you don't mind clicky switches.

The Magicforce is also a decent choice. Doesn't have as many features or as nice of build quality, but it's $5 cheaper for the basic model with Outemu switches. Comes in Blue, Black or Brown switches, with more options on the more expensive models.

Like another user suggested, you can head on over to a secondhand market like /r/mechmarket, eBay, etc and hunt down something "nicer" like a Cooler Master Quickfire for $50 or so, assuming you don't mind used items.

Last week I posted my new home office (https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/comments/4qtace/my_brand_new_home_office_details_in_comments), and I got a lot of positive feedback (thanks!). I wasn't really happy with the K350 keyboard (really long throw on keys, too loud to use while on a conference call), so I made the executive decision over the weekend to upgrade the keyboard to something that really fit the bill in terms of form and function. I updated my original post with this info… here’s the detail on the keyboard/mouse:

u/Bergrin · 3 pointsr/malelifestyle

If you're going to be spending a significant portion of your work day at your desk, you gotta make that thing functional, not just aesthetically pleasing.

Like /u/DeBuurman said, dual monitors are great. But don't stop there, have them placed at the right height so you don't get neck strain. Get an ergonomic keyboard, your wrists will thank you, also a wrist pad if needed. I use this one. Backup hard drive so you can backup your computer every single day. And of course a good chair. Don't make your future you hate present you for giving him a back ache. Also, have all your electronics run off a single usb hub hidden under the desk so that your laptop only has two cords running from it (power and usb).

Other than that, I like to bring out as much of myself into my office as the standards of decorum will allow. I have some artwork made by friends, presents given to me by clients (especially my big ass abalone shell!), some boat parts from the sailboat I used to live on, and a bunch of other stuff which I think is fun to have around (like my 4' tall elephant head wood carving).

Bought these NPKC keycaps because they were super cheap. The overall feel is pretty nice (compared to the OEM caps) but there's some inconsistencies on the bottom finishes and the modifiers are pretty faded already. Overall its a good deal considering the price.

u/azsheepdog · 0 pointsr/htpc

yeah better, but what is better about the Logitech than this one from Microsoft that has more functionality and normal price is less than the sale price of the Logitech?

I have a k70 mx red and love it. Aside from my headphones, my most worthwhile purchase as of yet. However, ducky, coolermaster, and logitech make pretty decent keyboards. My runner up when I was researching keebs was this: https://www.amazon.com/Das-Keyboard-Professional-Mechanical-DASK4MKPROSIL/dp/B00JG01QTY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510694756&sr=8-3&keywords=mechanical+keyboard+ducky

Ducky keyboard with MX browns. A bit smoother and less clicky than mx reds but pretty nice still.

u/subcat · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Just for your information, vortex is a distributor for KBC (the actual brand of keyboard).

I cannot for the life of me find a Shine 3 in stock anywhere, they were wildly popular and are gone pretty much everywhere at this point. Out of the keyboards you listed, the best one really comes down to YOUR needs. If you want a 60%, go with the Pok3r, but if you need backlighting, the Mini will be a good choice. If you want a sleek, well-built TKL go with the Majestouch. If you wanna go with a fullsize board, the Das is your option (or a Rosewill board if you want to keep costs low).

Assuming you're referring to the Pok3r, you can find it with MX Browns here.

edit: this shop sells a bunch of Filcos, however they are Europe-based so shipping might be slightly outlandish.

I highly recommend this keyboard on a budget. Build quality is superb and it works great. Not cherry switches but outemu which is still very good. You can always update the switches later if you like as they are removable.

I use a Logitech ultra-thin illuminated keyboard. It has 3 different levels of backlighting, etched keys (so they don't rub off over time), and useful function buttons. It also has scissor style keys, meaning they feel like a laptop, which is what I prefer. If your friend likes quiet laptop keys better, this is a great choice.

u/cupcake1713 · 32 pointsr/buildapc

Yes to all. I really like this keyboard (use it for work) and I'm a big fan of simpler mice. Ideally I would have two or three monitors, but you don't necessarily need to factor that into the budget.

Thanks so much for your help!!

u/rejctchoir · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I ended up getting the Logitech Bluetooth Android keyboard. Here is the amazon link with reviews. I picked it up for $35 refurbished off of ebay. It's much bigger than the actual tablet, but it's something that I'll only break out if I want to do some serious typing, otherwise it'll stay in my bag. So I'm okay with it. Here is a pic of that keyboard with a small android tab. The other alternative is a much smaller BT keyboard. I would recommend this one based on price and also generally favorable Amazon reviews. It will be better proportional to the Nexus, and will involve some compromise because it is small.

u/ManImCool1 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I submitted this earlier but didn't get a working solution. Thought I'd try again, hoping for a different set of knowing eyes to see this.

I just got this new Z-88 E-Elements RGB waterproof keyboard, I plugged it into my Windows 10 desktop and I only got the windows noise indicating something was just plugged in, and that's it. Keyboard not responsive, no lights. I went into device manager, under "Gaming KB" I updated manually by selecting the USB Input Device. That made all the lights start working, but still no keys are working. Tried USB 2.0 and 3.0. When I update and manually select USB Input Device, it adds several more Unknown Devices. If I try and update and manually select for those as well, it just adds more Unknown Devices. I do NOT see "BodeVibe Vibration Data Processing System," nor "ND-Tech USB Adapter" per other fix-it threads I've found. Plugging it into my laptop, also Win 10, and it works instantly, no driver updates necessary. I also just discovered that the keyboard DOES work in the BIOS, it just doesn't work when windows loads up. Please help!

> which have a better feel the Cherry red or brown

That's really a matter of personal taste. I prefer brown switches, personally, but it's something you really won't know until you try them out.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/wiki/switch_guides

That's got a ton of helpful information, but it's really something you should try and test out in-person if possible. If you're near a MicroCenter, I've seen demo boards out for people to test out the various kinds of switches. If you aren't, Best Buy might have a couple of Cherry mechanical keyboards you could test out.

You could also order a switch tester from Amazon if you can't get into a store to take care of them, also. Better than spending $100+ on a keyboard just to find you don't like the switches.

u/nosammai · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm looking to buy my first mechanical board, and I'm stuck between two right now. I mostly will use it for work (typing), but also occasionally gaming as well.

I'm looking at the Rosewill Helios and Das Keyboard 4:
http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Illuminated-Mechanical-Keyboard-RK-9200BR/dp/B00HGIBXH8/

http://www.amazon.com/Das-Keyboard-Professional-Soft-Tactile/dp/B00JG01QTY/

I realize the Das is $100 more than the Helios, and appears to be much nicer in terms of build quality, but is it something that I'll really notice without having used other mechanical keyboards to compare it to? Also I'm not stuck on those two, so any suggestions would be great! I'm leaning towards MX Brown, and numpad/media keys are a must.

u/stat30fbliss · 2 pointsr/FindItOnAmazon

I have had this Logitech keyboard for over a year now, and it hasn't done me wrong. Love the lighting, and it is motion sensitive so you can wave your hand over it to light up, and it doesn't drain the rechargeable batteries by being lit all the time. Battery life is excellent too.

u/RavenCorbie · 1 pointr/skyrimmods

Well, I'm also a writer, so I'm definitely a keyboard enthusiast, but I wanted one that would be equally good for writing and gaming. I think I veered more towards writing.

I have a Topre Type Heaven. I also use Dvorak, which works phenomenally well with Skyrim.

With some mystical unknown special magic, within the game, hotkeys still use QWERTY, but when I need to type my name or write in the Take Notes journal or rename things with Jaxonz Renamer, it automatically switches back to Dvorak!

u/beyondjakez · 3 pointsr/Workspaces

I would second the sculpt. I love mine... I looked at Amazon and found mine for $54 there. ( https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Ergonomic-Keyboard-Business-5KV-00001/dp/B00CYX26BC/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=sculpt&qid=1556319141&s=gateway&sr=8-2 ).

It did not come with the mouse, but I bought the Anker Ergonomic wireless mouse which has paired well for it, and a great trial for the price.

u/saiyate · 1 pointr/computers

Just get him a new keyboard. You can't go wrong with Brown, brown is all around. Or buy all three, and return what you don't want.

get him an MX Red (linear) keyboard for gaming, and a MX Brown(tactile) or Blue(clickly) for work/typing

Outemo makes copies of Cherry MX Keys, and they are cheap and great.

TECWARE Brown (Tactile, in between linear and clicky, has a little bump) perfect inbetween gaming and work, best all around (unfortunately they are out of the 10 Key version, still works good)

TECWARE RED (Linear, for gaming, no click)

TECWARE BLUE (Full clicky, for work, typing, not for gaming [even though they say gaming])

u/bumwine · 3 pointsr/buildapc

At work I use this one

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Ultrathin-Keyboard-Backlighting/dp/B001F51G16

Which is really nice for a non-mechanical keyboard (well, it uses scissor-switches which are slightly better than rubber) and the backlighting can be lowered to a nice subtleness. If I had to use a non-mechanical, I'd use that one, I haven't found a better one to be honest.

I also have the Corsair k90 at home which has blue LED backlights on each key, its a nice keyboard all around. It uses red keys so it doesn't have a click.

u/slippery_salmons · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If noise is a problem, do not get blues. I would suggest browns. As far as keyboards, please take a good look at the Das Keyboard Pro 4. It is the best keyboard I have typed on so far. If you want cheaper, the CM Quickfire Rapid and CM Quickfire XT are good choices as well.

u/stankopalluza · 9 pointsr/buildapc

I bought this DAS Keyboard for work over a year ago and it's the best keyboard I've ever used. I have a Razer Blackwidow Chroma at home and this DAS Keyboard stomps it for actual typing. I'm sure it would work fine for gaming, but man - feel like such a boss just smashing away at the keys on this thing. Never has a keyboard been so responsive. Actually improved my typing quality/consistency/speed too which I didn't believe would happen, but legit did.

Here is the non-mobile link. EliteKeyboards' is the seller so that means Elitekeyboards.com may have it soon on their site.

For those wondering about the difference between Realforce/HHKB/Leopold and Type Heaven, the difference is in the keycaps. The keycaps on the Type Heaven are ABS compared to PBT on other Topre keyboard. All Topre keyboards use ABS spacebars though. The Type Heaven is also made in China, just like the Leopold FC660C.

I'm interested in getting a mechanical keyboard, but I prefer low profile flat style keys like a laptop. I currently have this keyboard but I'd like to have the mechanic switches with those types of keys. Does this even exist? The great googles didn't turn up much.

I use the Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard and it has been really solid for me. Takes a bit to get used to the split keyboard design, but decent travel on keys, solid battery life, low weight, nice compact size, and my favorite part is multidevice capable for two different devices. As for the suggestions, I'd recommend the Logitech G502. It's in the same price range as the SteelSeries and Cooler Master mice, but is a much better and highly regarded mouse (it even has it's own subreddit).

Avoid the Drevo Tyrfing, it's got QC issues. I love CM keyboards, so they always get my vote if you have the budget for it. If not, consider the TKL Tecware Phantom.

Okay not exactly a laptop, but I swear by combining this bluetooth keyboard with this carrying case with whatever cheap/used tablet you can find. It's a lightweight combo that I can keep at my desk at work for on-the-go writing. I have the tablet connected to google docs and viola! The perfect writing buddy for $100-200. It was even less for me since I got a cracked screen tablet hand-me-down from a friend who was going to toss it anyway.

u/LongBalledNibba · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm looking for a keyboard as a gift for people who probably have never used a mechanical keyboard. Their requirements are a bit silly. They absolutely have to have a volume knob built into the keyboard. And not the kind that's a roller but the kind that rotates in the same plane as the keyboard. Think like a car volume knob.

So far it looks like Das Keyboard 4 Professional MX browns fits the bill but $150 is a bit hard to swallow as a gift. I'm not exactly made of money, you know?

My question is simple, is there anything out there that's mechanical and has the volume knob and is less expensive than $150?

I'm in nursing school and have found the N7 to be very useful in class. Its been handy in looking things up and taking notes. I'm not a huge note-taker, but hammering out some key points is easy. I ordered this keyboard: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-003390-Tablet-Keyboard-Android/dp/B0054L8N7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348768936&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard

I imagine note-taking and general use will be even easier with a keyboard. Have not yet used a stylus but I hear it works well. I guess it just boils down to whether you're a pen and paper kind of guy or prefer an electronic interface.

u/shadowstar2417 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

It doesn't go on sale too often, but keep your eyes open since holiday season is coming up soon, you can probably find it on sale somewhere.

If you want something cheap and decent, the E-Element Z88 is a pretty alright option. Build quality won't be as good as the CM, and the RGB lighting isn't very programmable, but it's not a bad keyboard for $50.

Hello, I am trying to find a good TKL keyboard with hot-swappable switches (for Chery MX style). I've found things like the Logitech g pro x keyboard. But, I don't care for the HIGH price tag. I also have looked at some different cheap boards on amazon like E-Element Z-77( https://www.amazon.com/HUO-JI-Mechanical-Multicolor-Anti-Ghosting/dp/B01EMI35H0/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=hot%2Bswappable%2Bkeyboard%2Bcherry&qid=1574713952&sr=8-8&th=1 ) and the Tecware Phantom 87 ( https://www.amazon.com/Tecware-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B079HTZQYV/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hot%2Bswappable%2Bkeyboard%2Bcherry&qid=1574716807&sr=8-1&th=1 ) but, the E-Element Z-77 looks ugly and the Tecware Phantom 87 does not work with Mx style switches. I have also seen other boards that look like they might work but they have none customizable RGB Barff look to them.

Does anyone know of a good TKL board that has hot-swappable switches, a good backlight, and is under $60? Or am I asking for something that does not exist?

u/TheMoves · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you're not using o-rings you could throw some on to reduce the chatter from the keys bottoming out, but it won't remove the signature click of the blue switches. I know you want to keep everything the same brand but you can do a lot better than Razer keyboards, I'd get a switch tester and figure out what you prefer, and then find something with those switches. If you like the clickiness of the blue switches but not the sound, I'm guessing you'll like the browns with some o-rings.

u/JDburn08 · 1 pointr/digitalnomad

I’ve got a Logitech tablet keyboard for android 3.0+ (no round keys!) that works a treat with both my iphone and my computer. Only criteria it doesn’t meet is that it’s not rechargeable but it doesn’t matter to me, since I a) I already carry AAA batteries for my dictaphone and b) it’s slightly more compact than average size is a perfect fit for my slightly more compact than average hands - read: it’s the only keyboard I’ve ever owned where I can reach the whole alphabet without needing to stretch.

I don’t have a recommendation for a stand, though; I just pile stuff up.

u/caffpowered · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Reddit liked my last battlestation, so I decided to post my new, more portable solution.

My new battlestation was made under slightly more constraints. Everything I own fits into a single suitcase, as I moved to a New York City for work. When I got here, I found that my two laptops made a very unergonomic and uncomfortable workstation. TO remedy that problem, I sourced a few parts of Amazon.

I bought a stand for my tablet, two laptop stands meant for DJs, a wireless mouse and keyboard and a kneeling chair. Everything breaks down and fits into my suitcases except for the chair, which I would probably leave behind if I am forced to move again.

The tablet is used as a TV. I use it to watch documentaries, shows streamed from youtube, hulu, netflix or thepiratebay. The internal speakers on the tablet are a bit quiet, so I have them streaming to a Logitech UE Boom Mini. I've owned the two laptops since starting university - a Lenovo x200, and a x201 I bought a few years later to replace the x200 when it stopped detecting a battery. They're both pretty old now, but the x201 still manages to play league of legends (barely). The x200 (right) is hooked up to a set of Steelseries Siberia v3 headphones that I use for skype, or music / shows when my roommates are watching something else on the big TV, or are having loud sex. A small and surprisingly weak fan is constantly plugged in and does do a bit to keep me cool. I'll have to revisit the cooling solution when summer hits again.

I've considered upgrading the laptops, but then I figured I shouldn't be spending a lot of time inside gaming anyways. Instead, I bought a new snowboard for the upcoming season.

ah i see. yeah those are legitimate complaints. So:

  • For Plex, I install the stand alone Plex player app, then add it to my steam library as a non-steam game. (you can add basically any program or shortcut to Steam, then add a nice picture for in BPM)
Heres a few nice art banners for that https://imgur.com/a/5OTp5

  • For web browsing, I just add Chrome to Steam, and launch it that way. You could even make shortcuts to specific web pages (like YouTube, Netflix, etc) and add those individually.

  • After adding those, you can then set up Steam / Xbox controller configs for Desktop mode and for this individual apps, like Chrome.
I have mine set up to do things like Triggers go Back and Forwards, Y button closes the current tab, etc.

Let me know if you want some in depth info on how to do any of that.

EDIT: tho to be fair, it is kinda hard to get to using ONLY a controller, for the web stuff. This has Outemu browns which are similar to Cherry, but may be scratchier. Gateron switches would be the best like in this keyboard.

u/Caruso08 · 10 pointsr/buildapcsales

Ive never tried that one, but its got blue switches which I have used before they are more clicky and stiffer than the browns in the one that I linked before.

This Z-88 keyboard is the one im using now and I love it to death, its waterproof/resistant and has RGB lighting. It also has replaceable switches so if any of them break or you want to switch to a different style of switch you can easily with out having to solder to the board.

Its 20 bucks more than the 30 dollar ones we have been linking but it honestly is worth it in my opinion

u/shoeninja · 1 pointr/vim

I used these for years but they're noisy and the keys travel a bit too far for my taste. Recently moved to the newer version and am super happy with it.

u/yusoffb01 · 2 pointsr/chromeos

The official google tablets would get it for sure. Multi windows work best on samsung tablets.

if you use cynogen mod for marshmallow, there is a functioning multi window feature if you edit build.prop

Alternatively why not type laptop in amazon and filter by the one shipping in your country? You can manually install dual boot android, or android running in windows if you really need the android function.

Whether a chromebook gets android app support should not be your main deciding factor because not all apps will work. If you really need android, you can go the tablet route. In the end, you need to know what your needs are.

For me, I used a samsung tablet+ logitech k480 keyboard it is very convenient to take down notes in android as I can quickly screenshot and crop powerpoint slides and paste inside notes. This is how neat it turns out I do have a toshiba chromebook 2 but I cant do up notes as fast as on an android tablet. handwriting is useful too

u/The_Daft · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

You should consider getting a switch tester first, you can pick them up for pretty cheap and it'll save you the hassle of ordering a board only to discover you dislike the switch.

Here's a good example, it's the one I ordered and have sitting on my desk. It's also a fun toy to have sitting around!

u/bitesizepanda · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hi! I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and have been doing a lot of research on this sub. I think I'd like a 75% with cherry brown switches and PBT keys. I love the look of the Vortex Race 3 but I don't really like the keys to the right of enter (I use Mac which doesn't make use of those). I love how the Velocfire TKL78 doesn't have those keys, but I'm not into the whole look of black keyboards or backlit keyboards. Any suggestions for a classic tan kb that's smaller but still has function keys for volume control/media playback?

u/thedailynathan · 2 pointsr/starcraft

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

I have the same one. Great keyboard if you like flatter laptop-style keys that use the scissor switch. It's pretty pricey though - if you don't need a backlight there are plenty of cheaper models to be had.

u/Nonethewiserer · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Alternative: Microsoft All-In-One Media Keyboard

Cannot speak to the k400. I was looking for an htpc keyboard and I thought the k400 was my only option. Wasn't pissed about it, heard good things, but it just looked kind of chintzy.

I learned of Microsoft's keyboard and loved how the build quality looked but was worried about reviews online (specifically that the mouse wasn't great). I bought one and I really love it. Not cheap feeling at all and no issues whatsoever. I just didn't even know it was an option for the longest time so I thought I'd mention it.

u/officer21 · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc

Also look into browns. Feel just like blues, but don't have the noise. There are a few options for either type of switch for around $25 to $35 on amazon, all of which are pretty good.

104 key, blue switches, RGB: $30

87 key/tkl, blue switches, blue backlight: $28

78 key, brown switches, white backlight: $26

61 key/60%, blue switches, wireless (with option to wire if you want), backlight depends on color: $40 -this one has some questionable key layouts though, arrow keys take priority over other keys. You could work around this with autohotkey I bet

u/dood98998 · 1 pointr/OverwatchUniversity

Then that's fine to reuse. Membrane kbs are like 5-10 dollars, but cheap mechs can also be had for sub 40, e.g. this or this. I would recommend getting an mx key tester if you want to go down the mech rabbit hole, like this one, but if you want to stay budget you can just try out a friend's kb.

u/machinehead933 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have been shopping for a new keyboard for work, only for typing. I ordered a switch tester off mechanicalkeyboards.com but the topre switches have me intrigued. I did find this board on Amazon, I was thinking about picking it up and then at least if I dont like it Amazon has a hassle free return policy. Are Type Heaven and Realforce the only companies that use that switch?

u/JeffIpsaLoquitor · 1 pointr/mechmarket

Trying to price my Type Heaven which is hardly used, but there's no good Amazon information. Would love some advice.

u/compositionnotebook1 · 1 pointr/ipad

I use the logitech k480. I like that it’s bigger, easier on my wrists. I also got the hermit shell keyboard case where I can it my iPad and my pencil in there.

So far I really like it. I’m a student too, I use it for taking notes in my reading as well as lecture notes.

u/NotSoRandomBear · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Matias Quiet Pro is a good choise for both cost and the variety of boards. They're very quiet, not too expensive, there's a Mac version, they have a tactile feel and there is a 100% and a small version.

There's the Cooler Master Novatouch that costs a bit more, has a lower actuation force, you can change the keycaps later on and it has a TKL layout so if you're using the numberpad a lot, you should probably go for the Matias Quiet Pro. ¨

If you want the premium stuff there's the Topre Realforce boards. They are expensive, comes in regular 100% layout and TKL layout, there's a version where the keys on the board has different weights on them so from 30-45g. for better ergonomics, there's also a version that's a bit more quieter to believe it or not and it comes in black or white.

EDIT: Noticed that you wanted a small board, so the Matias Mini Quiet Pro and the G84 is probably the two best mechanical boards to get.

u/d4v3d · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

USA Amazon. Yes, there are but they are sold by Tiger Imports and they dont ship to Mexico.
Usually there its shipping to Mexico when its sold by Amazon directly. Like [this one](

You can see it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available"

Thank you anyway :).

u/intr0spectivity · 1 pointr/ipad

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Maybe if you don't mind the iPad leaning further back because it's a few 0.something mm thinner.

Don't get a keyboard case. Get a dedicated slim keyboard that can pack away with a smart cover. You can get them combined for around $50 on Amazon if you search. All the first party accessories bet on the idea that people will spend a lot more than they should because the Apple brand is connected with the ideas of premium and high-end devices.

I would recommend [Anker's T320 slim keyboard] (http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Ultra-Slim-Aluminum-Keyboard-Windows/dp/B00BKW2410) with any of the slim cover cases on Amazon.

You'll pay more for more features. An example would be the Logitech K480 keyboard that allows you to connect with three devices simultaneously (phone, iPad and laptop).

u/GavinMcG · 1 pointr/writing

You don't need RAM to run one or two applications. Honestly, a laptop with specs from 1998 would probably be fine. Or better, since it would keep you from having too many distractions open.

Instead, focus on the keyboard. Or buy whatever cheap laptop you like along with a laptop stand and an ergonomic keyboard.

(I have both of those and recommend them.)

u/kschang · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Probably Topre Type Heaven, about $155 or so on Amazon

Pros:

  • Full size
  • Smooth as butter

    Cons:

  • No backlight
  • Very little customization (Topre stems are rare)
  • Plastic case, laser etched caps

If you got unlimited budget you can go for a full Topre Realforce for $250 on Amazon. You get metal base, dye-sub caps, and optimized key strength layout (weaker fingers get lighter keys).
u/Cei34 · 1 pointr/Surface

I use the Surface to read manga/comics. The 16:9 aspect ratio isn't ideal for landscape mode, but portrait mode is useable if that helps. Also, I have a Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard, which comes with a stand that can be adjusted at more flexible angles. I often use it to read comics while having breakfast. If you're laying down on bed, or sitting back at the sofa, I think it's good enough for reading despite being heavy.

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Universal-Foldable-Keyboard-Android/dp/B00UBGU4PY

I like it, though there is a fold in the middle of the keyboard and some people have a hard time with the gap (we also have one connected to our Hololens at work).

What I love about it is that it has two bluetooth profiles so I can switch between two devices seamlessly. Also, a single charge lasts forever! It's not my favorite keyboard ever, but it's amazing as a portable keyboard!

u/Ozimondiaz · 1 pointr/Surface

if you want something light and portable I don't see you spending less than $80 (CAN). Most of the portable BT keyboards I have seen are pretty small as well. If you are looking for something similar in size/quality as the Surface Keyboard you will be spending over $100. At that point might as well grab the Surface keyboard.

All that being said, the MS BT fold-able is my fave alternative. link

I got the 104 cap version just cause it's like 2 more. They're not the fanciest, but they look nice and are PUT. I figure I can upgrade later when I get some cash. Ideally I'd have ice caps, cause I think that would look hawt! https://www.amazon.com/NPKC-Customized-Switches-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B06XWWRRXT/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1503704018&sr=8-4&keywords=Keycap+set

Thanks for the giveaway op.

Here is my keyboard, it's a great wiresless keyboard, with an extremely long battery life and it is rechargeable. But it has been getting beat up by me when I play games.

Keyboard

u/MeweldeMoore · 2 pointsr/slashdiablo

I use a combination of different ergonomic mice, I switch between this joystick style mouse and an Evoluent VerticalMouse on my right hand, and at work I use a left-handed vertical mouse. For keyboards I use the Microsoft Sculpt at work and a corsair K65 with cherry mx red mechanical buttons at home. I also wear copper compression gloves which helps ease the pain after.

The thing I wish I had done earlier was just to address it all a lot sooner. It's easier to prevent than to treat. You could probably invest $200 and prevent long term pain. Also try using your weak hand for mousing at work so the load is split evenly. It takes time but you do eventually get good at it.

u/spacedout83 · 21 pointsr/hardware

I know you may be seeking a <$50 keyboard for budget reasons, but getting a nice, quality keyboard (and mouse) is, IMO, one of the most important things to consider with one's PC. Since they keyboard is something you physically interact with almost constantly while using your computer (especially if you're a gamer), skimping on it will often leave you dissatisfied & seeking a different keyboard in 6-12 months.

I'm not a gamer, but I do a lot of typing so I bought myself the Logitech Ultrathin Illuminated Keyboard two years ago and I consider it the best $80 I spent on my computer.

u/dogeatdawg · 1 pointr/buildapc

Cherry are the go to. Non-cherry switches will be different by brand. I know Razer has their own but have a different color scheme. They'll use similar descriptions though. The tactile bump they usually refer to are those blue/brown bumps partway down the keystroke.

If you can, head to a local store and see if they have a mechanical keyboard sitting out on display. It could help get a feel for at least one of the key types.

They also sell little tester sets that just give you a single sample of a few types of switches if you want to be sure before buying, but up to you if it's worth the cost.

u/teslazapp · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Just my two cents, but this one has hotswappable switches Plugable 104 key - https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Performance-Full-Size-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01MA6O13L . I am currently using this one and has been great so far for me. They also make a tkl as well.

u/Ghrave · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Today I bought an amazon special (lol) the version of the Tecware Phantom. This is the board, which says it's hotswap, but only for Outemou switches. Two questions-is this true, will no other switch fit? And second, if a any switch would fit with slight modification (like clipping a plastic stem, for instance) would that work? I got it to act as a test bed for some mods I want to try out on my more expensive boards, and of course I don't want to ruin a bunch of switches but a few at a time to mod, drop in and test would be acceptable.

A membrane keyboard, YOU DUMMY THICC IN THE HEAD BOI (sorry just been wanting to say that all day) but yeah, get a mechanical, a good one for about 40$ is the Tecware phantom mechanical keyboard, you can get it in otemu blues, browns, and reds. For the majority of SCOB progression I used a Logiteck K810.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Bluetooth-Illuminated-Keyboard-Smartphones/dp/B0099SMFVQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1421535542&sr=1-1&keywords=K810

It's pricey at the moment but I managed to snag it during a 50% off sale. It's pretty small and fairly feature-limited. However, what it can do, it does nicely.

u/kiwikish · 1 pointr/Surface

This Microsoft Keyboard has excellent reviews. Though so do a number of different keyboards, it really depends on what functionality you're looking for (number pad, key spacing, etc).
I actually have a full size USB keyboard that I wouldn't mind throwing into my backpack. With the amount of space I save with the SP3, a full keyboard really could be useful. And you'd look hella weird if you pulled it out in class or something.

u/rube · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Actually, my lapdesk is pretty old, I just didn't use it for quite some time.

This is the keyboard I use:

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Bluetooth-Multi-Device-Smartphones-920-006342/dp/B00MUTWLW4

The great thing about it, is it has a dial with 3 positions, so you can sync it with 3 different devices and switch between them, without having to re-pair it each time.

So I have it on my PC, Android tablet and PS4. It also has a slot at the top to put a tablet or phone into.

As for the mouse, any wireless mouse will do. I just use a small Motorola bluetooth one I bought a few years back.

u/pablo_the_bear · 1 pointr/Android

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I plan on getting this as soon as I upgrade to ICS on my Galaxy Note.

I won't be using it for taking notes, rather I will use it for typing graduate school assignments while on the bus/subway/train here in Korea. Yes, I think it is slightly ridiculous, but compared to a) writing things out on paper and typing them out later or b) trying to type something more than two sentences long on a touchscreen I think it is the smartest way to go.

u/Necronam · 7 pointsr/ffxiv

I use the Logitech K810. I've had it for several years, and it works great. Battery lasts for weeks. My bf uses the Logitech K380 and has had similar success.

Edit: Added links.

The key difference is the 380 uses 2 AAA batteries, whereas the 810 has an internal, rechargeable battery that uses a standard micro USB.

Maybe. The cheapest Topre keyboard is the Topre Type Heaven. I'm seeing them on Amazon for $150.

Is there an ideal keyboard you are envisioning in your heard?
