I own the Hori arcade stick. I really like it and it works very well.
I also own a PS3 mad cats TE stick (mine has different art than this, best match I could find), I really like that one too. I use this usb stick to make mine work with my switch
I find that these sticks each have their own pros and cons.
|Hori|MadCatz|
|:-|:-|
|Soft plastic round buttons. Very Good|Hard plastic sawa style buttons. Perfect|
|Very hard clicking, very mechanical feeling stick. I love it. Just slightly better for change/charge moves|Softer smother stick, I also love it.|
|No lock feature, however the home button is all the way on the side so it is hard to press by accident. However I do hit start by mistake sometimes when going for a L1|Has a lock out switch, never accidentally press start or the system menu button again! Love It|
|Light weight and easy to put in your lap. Great|Heaviest stick I have every held. Still good for the lap, but I prefer a table. Also Great, but a little different|
|USB cord stores in controller. Feels Cheap|USB cord stores in controller. Feels Great|
|It's RED!|Lots of artwork options available. Pick a style that suits you!|
|Works on Switch and PC (x-input)! Change between the two with a hidden switch on the arcade stick! Wonderful Feature|Works on PS3 (and ps4 games with legacy support). Works on PC only if you set up a custom controller profile in steam. Works with switch when using the usb stick linked above. Not perfect but it will work|
|$150 New and feels like a $150 in your hands|$300-400 new and feels like $300-400 in your hands; but you won't get yours new. I don't think they are made anymore. Hunt for one on amazon or ebay, condition may very. I linked to a OEM/stock one that was going for 280 when in stock.|
I use the MadCatz on my pc as my main steam controller. I use the Hori on my switch. The adapter is used for when a friend comes over. I would never take the MadCatz stick to a competition. It only takes one drunk dudebro spilling a beer to ruin my irreplaceable controller.
If I were you, I would pick the Hori controller for simplicity and price. However if you want to try the MadCatz I found this for about 85-100, it may pair well with the use this usb stick for a very good $120-130 price tag. However the $85 sticks are stated to be in what amazon calls "acceptable condition" and may be missing packaging, manuals, or other pieces.
If your TV does indeed do 1024x768 then you should be fine with it.
You should be fine at standard-defintion resolutions (480 vertical pixels) using the yellow (composite) cable that comes with the console, but a component cable should give a sharper picture even on standard-definition (depending on your TV and the quality of your eyesight) and will take full advantage of the resolution of a 1024x768 telly.
If you're buying a new telly soon, then maybe see if you can get away with the yellow composite cable for a while, because any new TV will have an HDMI cable, and that will give a better picture (depending the TV and your eyesight) than component. The HDMI cable will be a bit cheaper, and you'd always choose it over component.
I'm not aware of any gameplay differences between the two consoles. Someone said in another post that the E3 demo units were 360s, so that was what the early development must have been done on, so the title must be better and more "native" to that console. Personally, I don't think it makes any difference.
I have a PS3 (and I actually bought a new PS3 for Rocksmith) and I think it's a better console, from a hardware point of view - I've had my PS3 for over 4 years and it's still going great. Early models of the 360 had a terrible failure rate and I still think of it as a "cheap" console; however the latest slim models look like they've fixed these problems, and they're a fair chunk cheaper than the PS3. I kinda feel like the 360 is less cost, if you just want to see if you get along with Rocksmith.
My copy of Rocksmith hasn't arrived yet, but it's a bargain compared to the cost of guitar lessons. If it works even reasonably well then buying a console to play it on is still a bargain compared to, say, 10 or 20 hours of lessons.
Just like with TV's, there are higher grades of computer monitors as well. Look for "graphics design" monitors. Some of these monitors will actually have BNC inputs as they are designed for industry use but do not be fooled, These monitors do NOT accept 15khz rgb ( aka 240p)
I have an "NEC MultiSync FP2141sb" which I love. It has dual inputs, full geometry controls, a "super bright" function I really enjoy and a built in usb hub that I use to power my component - vga adapter.
I belive this Sony FW900 is the holy grail of vga crt monitors.
edit: I grabbed a this Wii VGA cable and gutted the chip. I made my own little box with component inputs and VGA out. The chip they used is highly regarded and does a straight 1:1 conversion of component-VGA @ 480p and 720p.

There's a S-Video input right on the back of that monitor. One side plugs directly into your console, the other into the monitor itself - super simple:
PS1/PS2/PS3 (official Sony brand and excellent quality, FYI)

SNES:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For NES, you'll also want to get a pack of these BNC to RCA connectors to use a regular RCA Composite cable off your NES: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005B4O4GG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I should add that I forgot to mention that Sega Genesis needs to be modded for S-Video - if your friend can help you mod the monitor for RGB it'll be a breeze for him (it's soldering like 5 single wires and a couple resistors - pretty darn easy). ---OR at that point, if you are actually modding the monitor for RGB, you'll probably forget about the S-Video and just use a regular SCART RGB cable or whatnot.
Also, if it makes your choice easier, S-Video really is excellent quality. You really have to see both side-by-side to notice any difference compared to RGB (especially if you're still new to all this - it's really just the finer smaller differences you can notice between the two connection types).
oh man let me show you something that will be your best friend for the controller. Just get them. http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Triggers-Playstation-3-PS3--Black/dp/B003S6RI2G/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319567610&sr=8-1-fkmr0 comign fom the 360 it's great. Well just do regular cleaning on it it will be fine. I mean get some compressed air and blow it out a couple times. And if you have a marathon gaming session be sure to turn your system off for a bit and let it rest. I think if you've played for like 4 hours let it rest for like 45 minutes.
I was a teenager in the late 80's, which is for me the golden era of arcade.
Just a non exhaustive list of arcade games that I played the shit out of: Rygar, Bubble Bobble, Xain'd Sleena, Double Dragon, Wonderboy, Gauntlet, Gunsmoke, Choplifter, Rampage, Golden Axe, Empire City, etc.
And these games were not only about playing them, it was also about watching other people playing them and talking about them.
Then in the 90's, arcade just became mostly about Fighting and Driving games, and I was not into these: getting older, not good at them, and them being more and more expensive to play.
And finally came out console and PC gaming which marked the end of arcade games.
I definitely miss these days, and I am sure this is a concept which can not stand nowadays except for nostalgia for people like me, and maybe for driving games which can be more seen as some sort of driving simulators that you cannot have at home.
But personally, I can sort of revive these days especially thanks to emulators and stuff like this. And I still have a lot of fun. These games definitely don't get old.
I used this one for awhile but I don't like it too much -

This is the one I'm using currently -

Years ago I used to just use a PS1/PS2 pad with a converter.
Honestly I haven't really found a pad I like all that much. Sega Saturn controller or something like that would probably be the best but yeah.
Dear everyone with this problem,
Solved
Dual Triggers for the PS3 are a perfect solution. Yes there is an inherent flaw in the design of the PS3 R2/L2 but these work really well are super cheap and provided you don't abuse the shit out of your controller will last you forever. I've bought four pairs for three controllers, the only one that has broken is a controller that got dropped several times.
If you've been primarily gaming on the 360 up until now, it can take a little bit to get used to the PS3 controller. I also had the same issue. The fatigue issues go away pretty quick though.
As someone who also primarily played 360 before I got my ps3, I would highly recommend you get trigger extensions asap. They make the controller much more comfortable.
While linking accessories, I would also recommend a magnetized controller charge pad. I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to just lay the controller down and have it auto charged. No need to remember to plug it in, or even use a usb port.
It may sound strange that I am recommending a charging pad in response to your post. However, there is a reason! The magnetic charging pad attachment adds a little extra weight to the PS3 controller. Everyone that comes by to play games always comments how much nicer my controllers feel between the slightly heavier feel and added triggers.
I use this one. It was cheap and works great. Battery life is excellent, good clarity, easy to use, automatically syncs with the PS3, and displays on the screen as your controller does (battery status/connected/muted).
Highly recommended:

I got one of these for like $10 clearenced at Target ...
http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Pro-Elite-Wireless-Playstation-3/dp/B005761BGO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1393910447&sr=8-2&keywords=power+a+mini+ps3+wireless
Similar thing excpet "mini", and wireless.
Plug and play with PC, just plug in the USB dongle, hit home button and about 15 seconds it's good to go. Rechargable and gets a good amount of time on battery, and it's obvs. clearenced on Amazon. I've had it for a year and a half now and it still works great. Highly recommend this, or any controller by Power A.
Get the Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA or the Madcatz TE sticks.

You definetly do not need an arcade stick to play fighting games, it's simply a matter of preference, the only reason the stick is preferred by the fighting game players is that they grew up playing in arcades with the stick as the preffered controller. Ever since SF4 came out there has been a new generation of pad players that are doing pretty well :(Wolfkrone, top seed for evo points, Vangief, both of these guys are pad players and placed top 8 SSF4 in EVO). And for Marvel you really dont need a stick at all as execution is extremely easy. So if you aren't commited to paying 100+ USD for a quality stick, might as well play with your pad, as the stick wont make you a better player instantly, and sticks have a learning curve too. Can you mention the games that you want to play and how much money are you willing to shell out for a stick?
Well, Newegg has em for $40 and the last time I checked, Best buy had a bundle of GoW/Uncharted 1+2 with a controller.
Edit: Just got an e-mail from Amazon so here's some third-party controller deals.
Splitfish Dual SFX Evolution Wireless Controller for just $23. I own one and it works pretty good, no dead zones but the button layouts feels awkward. Rapidfire was fun to use, only tried it on Mass Effect 3 though. It feels like a monster when you hold it btw. Here's the video review of it.
HKS Racing Controller for $36.09. This is strictly for racing games and I've never really tried it. HKS Racing Controller Review.
PS3 Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter which is $49.88. I know you don't want to shell out too much money but if you want to play the PS3 with a keyboard + mouse, then here ya go. You can also check out the Tactical Assault Commander 3 but I wouldn't recommend it. Eagle Eye PS3 Review. Btw, if you do get the Eagle Eye, expect playing it like this. A better demonstration of Eagle Eye.
Play n Type Wireless Controller with Keypad for $38.03. I seriously don't like this controller, it looks terrible. Just get the official wireless keypad. It's like, what, $21 on Amazon? Here's the review of it, no such video demonstrating the actual typing though.
You can also check the third party controllers in Gamestop or Bestbuy like afterglow but I totally wouldn't recommend it. Like seriously. Shit's so bright even in daylight.
The DualShock 4 works with the PS3 but it's super wonky. For instance, the PS button has zero functionality. You can't just hit it and choose "Quit Game" to go back to the menu. Also, you have to play wired. The DS4 does not wirelessly communicate with the PS3. If your primary issue with the DS3 is that it's a bit small I'd suggest picking up the officially licensed controller from PowerA. It's still wired only but every button functions correctly and it's only like $20.
Edit: This is the controller I'm talking about. I forgot it's sticks are even offset like a 360 controller. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LB4KGU2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510852176&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=powera+ps3+controller
I'm also curious to know about good 3rd party controller. I'd prefer something wireless but this one seems pretty awesome.

http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Amplified-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B00E5UHSXI
This says it is 12', but even if you sit 10' from your tv, i don't think only having 2' of slack will be comfortable or doable. If you are that far you will probably need a wireless. My friend has the px5 from TurtleBeach and he swears by them. He said he spent $150 for refurbished a year or so ago, but will still probably run you $100-$150 for refurbished. Good thing about those is it is both xbox and ps3, digital sound and dual channel bluetooth voice (for game or answering your phone).

it comes with infamous on 1 disc and infamous 2 on the other. as well as the festival of blood PSN download voucher and all DLC for all the games.
it's really a good value, so gogogo get it :) http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Combo-Pack-Infamous-Dualshock-PlayStation/dp/B009716KIY
or if you want other retailers: http://us.playstation.com/games-and-media/ultimate-combo-packs/
I got these for the thumb grips recently and I LOVE them! They're super grippy and hug onto the controller joystricks really tightly (downside is they are a LITTLE tough to get on for the first time...but it's not like it will take you 10 minutes or anything. lol).
https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Analog-Joystick-Controller-Performance/dp/B016YQRYNY/ref=br_lf_m_b95x4z7mdf7e3au_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=wireless
I bout the PS3 ones from a local gamestop for $25 each. They work fine with the PSVR and the battery life is still great on them. I do recommend a charging dock for them though. I got this one and it works great for them.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00439DIZ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you're interested in Sony triggers, these work great.
The Xbox triggers are copied from the Dreamcast controller by the way. Yes, the guide button is Microsoft's claim to fame; I knew they came up with something on their own.
well you got a few options. You could buy ps3 cases or buy universal game cases or you could find some old ps2 cases (whatever seems the best option for you). and then you can go to the http://www.thecoverproject.net/ and they will have all the covers to your games for you to print out (or get them professionally printed. I haven't done any of these yet, but I'm definitely going to and personally I think ps3 cases look really nice, but you gotta a bunch of options
Know if a PS3 S-Video adapter will work with the PS2? Particularly a cable that is shipped from UK?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000N5JS5A/ref=sr_1_3_olp?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1510914645&sr=1-3&keywords=playstation+3+s+video
Looking to get a new S-Video cable for my PS2 and PS3. I don't know what will work with both, but I'm fairly confident the UK seller is the most trustworthy seller (the other ones have their prices jacked up and the one that matches only has 4 reviews which are likely fake). Only concerned because the cable might not work for the PS2 and a UK cable not working with US systems, but I don't think there are any design differences.
For comparison I have the Astro A50's. They are amazing and I can use them for PS3, XBOX and PC gaming.
[These](http://www.amazon.com/Pulse-Elite-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-63089006306200/dp/B0087OZ5FG/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1380792472&sr=1-2&keywords=mic
) are what I would call mid range, and have excellent reviews.
If you only want a ps3 bluetooth, something like [this](http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Bluetooth-Headset-Urban-PlayStation-3/dp/B005NYK7YC/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1380794572&sr=1-2&keywords=bluetooth
) would work and has decent reviews for a $25 earpiece.
These are the sort of cables I was talking about it:

Just direct from the console to the monitor, nothing between.
They aren't of the highest quality, but are dead simple and cheap.
A dedicated transcoder as described by /u/syboxez would be better solution, especially if you think you'll want to possibly use other 480p+ Component sources on the monitor, but if you're just looking to use the Wii on it, the cable -should- be good enough for your purposes.
Not capable of hitting quite as high of resolution as the Garo, but I can personally recommend the Key Digital transcoders as being quality: For your situation specifically, the KD-CTCA line, for Component to RGB:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/282489751132
http://www.ebay.com/itm/142394232769
Alternatively you could use something like this. PSN controllers are better for the dpads.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N5ST03C/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A26BKZHHS8SI0Z
And finally there is the elite controller. It's got great buttons, absolutely not worth the 150 price tag. Find it on sale, then it's totally worth it!
Yes, 5 prong (2 audio, 3 video) is called component. You can get component cables for everything ps2 and beyond, and you can get s-video for everything snes and beyond. The gamecube component cable is ridiculously expensive and requires an earlier model gamecube, but the s-video cable is easy to get (ebay and amazon have them; just remember that snes, n64 and gamecube use the same cable). Ps2 component is easy to get - amazon has the official one for 18ish and monoprice has theirs for 4.50
The only 100% smooth way to map the A/B/C buttons in a 1:1 way to a conventional gamepad would be to use a pad with a Sega-style 6-button layout. The MadCatz Fightpad is a prime candidate here. Retro-bit is working on dual-analog, bluetooth clones of the Genesis and Saturn pads due out in November. The vintage Saturn 3D pad would also work, as long as you're sure your adapter supports it. Basically you'd want ABC/XYZ = B, C-left, C-up / A, C-down, C-right.
This way you wind up with a controller which adapts equally well to Sega and N64 games, while also working decently for SNES, PS1, etc. On official Sega pads, I find BCYZ matches the positioning of SNES/PS face buttons more closely than Sega's ABXY buttons.
Otherwise for a playsation-style 4-button layout, the problem is the up/down/left/right orientation of the C-buttons is wholly irrelevant to some games, and wholly relevant to others.
For example Rare FPS, you will definitely want the c-button directional orientation retained on an analog stick or d-pad. For other games, it's more important to have A/B in the cross/square positions, and then it only makes sense to have C-left and C-down mapped to triangle/circle, and the other C's mapped to two of the shoulder buttons.
On the whole I'd recommend making heavy use of game-specific remapping to have a custom config in each game depending on your needs.
I don't see this listed in the comments already so I'll toss this here. I picked one up to play the few games I own the ps3 for due to the swapped analog sticks. I also have the 360 version that I use as my PC controller. They aren't wireless, and the ps3 version still has the general shape and feel of a ps3 controller, but if what you want most from the xbox controller is the reversed sticks, then I definitely recommend it.
EDIT: changed link to amazon as it's half price there. Also I should mention that it comes in 2 other colors and the light can be turned off.
I would very much avoid going for cheap ones on ebay. They are incredibly dodgy and are pretty much going to break after a week of use, plus you might be waiting a month for them to come in the post as most of them are from china. I bought this one as a replacement to my sony one that got lost when I was moving house and I love it!
[Gioteck SC1 Wireless Control Pad (PS3)] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B15EXJC/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00B15EXJC&linkCode=as2&tag=brds00-21&linkId=5VZ4VVL2PYB4XN6F) - 30 eur delivered on amazon.co.uk - even cheaper if you combine with a order to get free super saver shipping.
I'm assuming you have a TE 1 stick that was released in 2009? (http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Edition-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6) I used to have this problem until I bought a USB card and attached it to my computer
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IPXOWU?psc=1 (This card can read USB 1.1 - 3.0)
I think the stick is a USB 1.0, and my computer doesn't read USBs lower than 3.0, and cards like these did the job!
Good luck man!
The Power A Wired Controller is a pretty good option. It's officially licensed by Sony, only $20 and the build quality is decent. I like that the R2/L2 triggers are convex so your fingers don't slip off, like on the dualshock. It also has offset thumbsticks like an Xbox controller.
Kind of looking to pick up one of these cause it has the toggle for Left and Right the stick, so it can still be used for consumables. Friend has one and its actually fairly decent. I like the D-pad on this one a little more than I do the Hori.

Wired: TurtleBeach Ear Force P11 (LINK)
Wireless: Sony Wireless Stereo Headset PS3 (LINK)
Both work great, and also plug into my Mac. Both have separate game/chat volume controls, and options to mute the mic. The Sony is more comfortable to wear all around; softer ear cushions, and a wide, soft head band.
In the future, when you get better speakers, you can use a A/V receiver with HDMI.
You don't need a DAC, the PS3 has a DAC inside it, which is why you can have RCA outputs.
For now, with these speakers, just use one of these: http://amzn.com/B003U7WCEM Connect that to the RCA/3.5 adapter, to the speakers.
I'm 90% sure the subwoofer in this setup includes a crossover, so if you just plug in the front speakers, it should automatically send the bass to the subwoofer.
If it doesn't, then you'd need to add your own passive crossover, which isn't feasible. If the RCA outputs don't work for you, I'd start looking at the side bar to the right for some cheap 2.1 systems you could put together. (All of which would be significantly better than this Creative system.)
I only have one ds4 controller so that's in the available usb port after VR is using the other one. As for the move controller I bought this. SOOO worth the $7 I paid for it. Looks super nice too next to all my gear.
I'm not sure about which console's games are bigger, but you can change the PS3's hard drive yourself. All you need is a screwdriver and a 2.5" laptop hard drive.
As for recommendations:
As for PS3 deals, just check out PS3 bundles on Amazon. This is my suggestion: $250 for 250GB, Uncharted 3, a year of PS+, and free shipping.
If you want a second controller, check out the Playstation combo packs. It comes with a specially colored controller and an exclusive game. I would go for this one: $57 for an electric blue controller, inFamous 1/2/FoB, and free shipping.
I have Spider-Man ps4 deluxe edition with unused dlc code. I could do $60/shipped. The Game case has a chip on the outside but the game disc and artwork are perfect.
You can buy a replacement case on amazon if you want https://www.amazon.com/MIZAR-Empty-Standard-Playstation-Replacement/dp/B004I19MGA?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1
I've been using the SC-1 for a while now, and it's actually pretty good. It SIXAXIS, so just know about that, and since it's got the 360 layout make sure that if your game uses the triggers a lot that you can rebind L1 and R1 to L2 and R2.
Well the official Sony component cables are going for $80, so I don't really see how $20 is 'overpriced'. They were the only cables around that price that I could find that gave perfect image quality.
Which cables do you recommend?
i'm going to buy [The AfterGlow] (http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC) in a month or so. To be honest the Pro Elite Controller is almost twice as more expensive as the after glow and there are bad reviews about it. But if price is not an issue then definitely buy [The MadCatz MLG PS3 Controller] (http://www.amazon.com/Offically-Licensed-Circuit-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B0063BCQ20). The best thing about it is that you can switch the dpad and analog in any format that you want. Here's a [video] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF_XKj4gzJk) describing what i just said.
https://www.amazon.com/HKS-Racing-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B003UF9BK2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504146664&sr=8-1&keywords=hks+ps3+controller
I don't have one personally so I can't tell you how it is but it seems pretty cool.
It’s super comfortable and it’s so easy to use. PowerA Wired Controller For PS3
Recently I got the inFamous Collection on Amazon, and it came bundled with a blue DualShock 3, the price was $50 so it was a pretty good deal.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B009716KIY/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1398558910&sr=8-3
I just wanna throw out there that I'm in the same boat as you. My thumbsticks just wear down waaay too fast on my Steam Controller and once they're gone, the controller's done for me. I got a controller replacement once before and now both the replacement and another I got are already almost done again. I bought these that were an okay temporary replacement: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016YQRYNY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_CsS9SA8T1kIsE
But the nubs wear down really fast and for some reason they were actually more slippery than my worn down sticks. Then I tried these out: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OXT579S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_Z2knAmEqJCyIW
And those are just too big and loose. You can feel them sliding around over top of the thumbstick and they would often just slip right off. So that's where I'm at currently. I'd love some suggestions for caps that fit well that are actually grippy.
i just bought some "cheap" covers off of amazon.
They were $10 for 4 of them that i put on both of my sticks. One stick i had to remove all of the old rubber as it was too hard to get on. The others i didn't remove any rubber. In both scenarios they fit perfectly.
These:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B016YQRYNY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
(change to .com for american prices, probably cheaper)
Afterglow controllers are pretty good. Around 25 normally, and on sale through Amazon right now.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003IU01LC/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/191-2766610-0975359
Last week I caved and got a DFGT. For 30€ I build a table for it out of 4 table legs and a 18"x6" shelf.
I used to play GT and GT2 with an Ultra Racer, I've always wondered why there aren't more controllers based on those pistol-grip RC car transmitters like this one.
This thing probably somes closest to what you're looking for.
Would you be buying it for the ps3 or which console?
Because I would personally recommend the hori real arcade stick
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GDQRZM
its on a deal right now for $99 plus free shipping, real top of the line stick
Interesting, though not well reviewed it does look like one was made for the PS3:
http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Pro-Elite-Wireless-Playstation-3/dp/B005761BGO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
and know that smaller Wiimotes were made for the Wii, hopefully there will be something higher quality available for you in the future.
I can't speak for any caps besides the ones I got here. They're a bit tough to attach but I love them.
if it helps, I have a 20L5 and over 30 consoles and here's what I did.
The reason for the two is I split everything into 2 categories
All RGB SCART consoles are being handled by a 'gscartsw' (scart switcher)
All Component consoles are being handled by a an 'Extron Matrix 300' (multi format switcher) get one cheap on eBay
When you're ready to handle the audio now let me know and will tackle that!
**edit forgot to add, some sellers market PS1/PS2 RGB SCART Cables as the same or interchangeable but they are not. They will either have no resistors, 400ohm resistors or 1000ohm resistors. The PS1 needs resistance but the PS2 does not since it is built into the console. So:
Check the descriptions of the cables for this info or ask the maker if it's not printed.
are you familiar with "the RCA cable that comes with PS3"? it looks like this.
There is a port on the back of the PS3 that accepts this cable, and it's not the same port that accepts the HDMI cable. you can plug them both in at the same time.
Have you tried straight up plugging it in without running the 360 emulator? I have the HRAP original (non-V3, looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Real-Arcade-Fighting-Stick-3/dp/B001GDQRZM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1394911973&sr=8-3&keywords=ps3+hrap).
And it works as long as I plug in the stick into USB port before I start up the game. Then I just go into controller settings and switch from kb 1 to kb 2 to stick.
The PowerA Mini Pro Elite was a cool one for me, the camera joystick started to flip out on me a few weeks back but, it is still my favorite.
The PS3 should hook up to the TV just fine. 720p/1080i will look good on a TV that size. The TV looks to be 4:3 so you should get the bars. I think the PS3 comes with standard RCA cables so you might need to purchase some component cables as well.
I personally have no experience with a PS3 on a 4:3 set but I found this which is interesting and would sway me from going the that route if I could help it. PS3 4:3
See if that's an issue you're willing to deal with assuming this TV has that problem.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005NYK7YC
/ref=pd_aw_sbs_vg_2?pi=SY115
This is the best one, simply because of the integration with the system and the fact that it can be used while its charging speakerphone style. This is the cheapest one, the black one is going for $44, thought you would want the cheapest.
I have one of these and it works like a charm combined with a DVI-HDMI adapter like the one you mentioned. However it seems like the video distortion would be an issue with your monitor.
Alternatively I used to use this to connect via VGA along with an RCA-3.5mm adapter, but it was only half that price when i bought it. It has bad reviews, but that's because some monitors don't seem to agree with it, and it requires a TV to set up with a Wii. The Wii U can use it just fine, and in HD as well. You don't even need a TV to set it up since you set video settings via the gamepad. I however stopped using mine since it was just a tad too blurry for me. Not awful by any means, but I knew it could be better.
http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Real-Arcade-Fighting-Stick-3/dp/B001GDQRZM
This is a PS3 arcade stick but since it uses USB you can plug it into your computer to use as well. Exceptional quality as well.
If all else fails you can buy a PDP branded third party controller. To which 2 were made by them. Afterglow, and rock candy. They'll be the closest thing you'll get to a Dualshock 3 on PS3. That and they are quite reliable compared to the cheap knock-off Dualshock 3 controllers commonly found all over the place nowadays. Only downside is they are for the most part obtainable online since they were part of the PS3 era, and for the most part mainly PS3 games can be found.
The few chances of a genuine Dualshock 3 used in a store are rare, along with any official third party controllers like the ones I noted. Anyways I've linked both below.
Rock Candy wired https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Candy-PS3-Controller-PlayStation-3/dp/B008U2XEBM?th=1

Are you trying to get it to work on your ASUS or a different monitor now?
If a different one see the hard answer.
Easy Answer:
Plug it into your ASUS and hold the power button down on the PS3 while powering up until it beeps for a second time(While the monitor is on of course). If you get flickering and no screen then it is time to fix the ASUS or get a new monitor.
Hard Answer 1; New Monitor:
HDMI to DVI conversion cable. Make sure your monitor is HDCP compatible otherwise it may not work. Also get yourself a composite cable for your PS3 as well because most monitors do not output sound through DVI.
That is if you get a monitor with no HDMI input, otherwise just do the same thing you did with your ASUS and the Easy Answer.
Hard Answer 2; Fix the ASUS:
99% of the time when a monitor fails like you say, it is because of blown capacitors. That other 1% is factory defects and user stupidity. But from what you describe it sounds like one or a few of the secondary smoothing capacitors have failed.
If you feel comfortable about it you can take the back off the monitor and check the power supply unit for any inflated capacitors. They look like this when blown(the green ones in the pictures).
I used that guide for that exact monitor so I would suggest that you look up your model and seeing if there have been the same issues with other people.
Or just take it to a repair shop.
I hope this helps in any way.

Reviews look okish but, idk people complain about it too but, then again i've never seen a 3rd party controller that people say is as good or superior all around maybe people are just picky?
Does sony even make new dualshock 3 controllers
Yeah, the one in Chinatown is probably the one I'm thinking about. I'm a SF maniac.. I have a HORI fighting stick and modded it with Sanwa buttons. Love it.
Currently running 60-80, here are some examples:
Blue controller/Infamous Pack
Red controller/God of War Pack
Camo controller/Killzone 3
Camo controller looks badass, but I already have KZ3 or I would buy it :)
I got these and they make the controller much more comfortable.

Actually, now that I look at them, these are not being sold by Sony, but by 3rd party vendors. I have never ordered these, so YMMV, but based on the reviews, they seem to be legit.
These are going to be your best bang for buck converters.

I use a xbox 360 converter to PS4 for my arcade stick for fighting games and they work flawlessly. You just need to update the firmware whenever xbox1 has an update, takes 2 minutes.
This is my parts list from Amazon, I just googled Retro Pi installation guide and used one of the top results;
CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3
Samsung 32GB EVO (storage is entirely based on your budget and how much space you think you will need)
Raspberry Pi Case (lots of options)
Wired Controller (lots of options)
Card Reader (If your PC doesn't have one already)
Add in an HDMI cable if you don't have an extra laying around.
I've bought a few third party controllers in my time, and I've found that I actually prefer the Afterglow AP.1 to Sony's first party controllers. I've never really liked the positioning of the analog sticks on the first-party PlayStation controllers; the AP.1 gives it more of an Xbox 360 feel with the positioning of the sticks.
That being said, with the AP.1 you don't get Bluetooth connectivity, Sixaxis support, and the wireless can be a little touchy sometimes. I'll take it for half the price of a Sony controller, though. There's a lot of crap out there when it comes to third-party controllers, but I've never been disappointed by Afterglow.
The Dual Triggers from Amazon solve that problem for me.
Edited for great (cornflake) justice.
I've had this one for a while now and it's really good. You can check out the video for more info on the features

Jak and Daxter, I suppose. Though I don't need it like I need these boring, yet hugely useful cables.
Turtle Beach P11
Good sound and mic quality.
I use them both for PC and PS3, if you have an xbox you could get ones that work with both xbox and pc.
the ultimate combo packs on Amazon are a good deal if you don't already own the games.
They do make a top of the line fight stick for PS3 and XBox...for 250 bux. Worth. Every. Penny.
Edit: It looks like they jacked up the price on this model since I bought mine for ~150. They are selling the new Tekken model of this same fight stick for 150 as well.
Well, here's what I know of:
I think I'm leaning toward the Thrustmaster; some of the reviews indicate (relatively) fragile build quality, but wireless would be convenient for me and for a mere $43 the thumb-wheel seems worth a try.
How does this one look? Would you recommend this one in particular? It also says it'd work on the PS2.
If you get a stick for under $100, at the very least make sure it's easily modiable. I don't know much Xbox arcade sticks but I usually recomend a Qanba Drone but since you're on Xbox you'll have to use a Converter. There is also a Evo edition with Sanwa parts already installed
HRAP VX: link
Mad Cats TE. PS3's are in stock, 360's are not. You can also get them from the Mad Catz store online. Link
Finally, if you want both ps3 and 360 capability, you're out of luck for mass-produced sticks. There is the Qanba QRAF, link. They are very nice, and I've seen and played with a couple. I like them.
Finally, there's customs, but those can be upwards of 300 dollars.
The deadzone is horrible on that model. I bought one about a year ago for the exact reason that I like the 360 controller more. There's a newer one that is blue that they fixed the deadzone and it's the perfect replacement for the 360 controller on the PS3.
Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Pro-Elite-Wireless-Playstation-3/dp/B005761BGO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1370644627&sr=8-5&keywords=power+a+ps3

Another Xbox style: PDP Afterglow
http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC/
Third party controllers are known to have more dead zone in the analog sticks. So I'd go the PS2 controller route if you need that precision.
Quick question, are these the same headset? Trying to find a cheaper price :)
There's also these but they seem to be different than the ones you linked.

The PS3 doesn't have a minijack that will work with that cable. You need one of the analog-to-RCA cables that carries the audio -- like the one /u/e60deluxe posted above or this: http://amzn.com/B003U7WCEM
that has the rectangular connector that will plug into the AV Multi port.
The PS3 should have come with that cable if you got the full package; any used game store probably also has that or a similar cable for cheap, too.
There is a PowerA PS3 controller that has the layout of the XBOX360. Can't comment on the feel and control but there are wired and wireless variants. The wired one is really cheap on Amazon too.
https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Controller-PlayStation-3-BLACK/dp/B01LB4KGU2/

Great sound with independent game/voice volume controls(Which I hate that the Sony Wireless lacks.)
PS3 branded ones are fine. No difference at all.
I got this last week. Would serve you fine.
You want this for your PS3.
Serious question: does it work on Windows?
I bought an arcade stick for my ps3 which works flawlessly on my PC, but it is not an tournament edition stick.
Damn those are really expensive, and rare to find. i think i just gotta get Gioteck SC1

A quality headset such as Turtle Beach
For those features just go with XB360 or ps3 stick then. [Here's a wireless mini PS3 controller.] (http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Pro-Elite-Wireless-Playstation-3/dp/B005761BGO/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1398054903&sr=1-1&keywords=mini+ps3+controller)

Are you planning on doing any N64, PlayStation or newer consoles? Those would need 8+2.

What I am thinking is if its an older TV and you have tried all the L/R RCA connections, the TV might not be able to convert the digital signal into an analog audio out.
Next step would be to run audio outs from the PS3 to the amp. I haven't tried this in a while but you might be able to use the PS3 analog cords along with the HDMI. Multi AV out just has to be set on in the PS3 systems settings. If that's doesn't work you would need an optical cord to a digital to analog converter.

How does it compare to this Hori

The HDCP is hard coded into the HDMI output and the only way to assuredly record from the PS3 that I've seen is using a PS3 component cable. You can probably find off brands that will work just fine.
Unfortunately for you, you have the Elgato HD60 which only has HDMI inputs. A casual search yields nothing for me as far as converting Component to HDMI, and I doubt a reliable one exists that is inexpensive. The standard Elgato HD comes with a Component input cable for use with older consoles.
These. Marketed for PS3 but they work just fine on PS1/2. I use them for my PS2.
EDIT: Are these the 10100 you listed? Missed them in the pictures first time. Looks like you have them loose.
You get what you pay for.
I have a Turlte Beach Earforce P11 I use, tho for it to work on both you need an adapter. They make one called the DAC1 ( digital to analog converter ). I have big ears and I can use them for about an hour before I have to take a rest from them.
Though the link I provided for the P11 doesn't offer any new, the adapter is designed to work with various models of headsets. Not the best option maybe, but it will work for both consoles.
I have This one, charges both at once, I bought it used from Gamestop for $12 I think.
I have a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3. It works on my PS3, PC, and Mac. The buttons aren't great and start to get sluggish after a few months, but the stick part is top quality and the entire thing is easily moddable (no solders required, all you need is a phillip's head and a bolt remover); I ended up buying some Sanwa buttons to install a few months after I bought it for about 20 bucks. They are smooth as hell and I haven't had to do any additional work on it for the over a year that I've had it.
Here's what it looks like now.
Official Sony cables are overpriced IMO, at least here in Canada, likely due to Supply & Demand with them being discontinued most likely:
Here's 2 listings I found on amazon.ca:
$69.72+$5.54 shipping for used PS3 Cables: https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-Electronic-98044-Component-Playstation/dp/B000MIXFWA/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

on eBay:
Used PS3 Cables that would come to a total of about $97.51 or make offer: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sony-PlayStation-2-Component-YPbPr-Cable-OEM-Official-Sony-SCPH-10490-PS2-PS3/254161752255?hash=item3b2d3890bf:g:iQwAAOSwCnpciH8X

Hi Redshft,
As a warning, you're going to have to "learn" to use the fightstick. I literally hated it at first. It's so "new" you will suck.
http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Edition-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1376255474&sr=8-7&keywords=mad+catz+fightstick
That fightstick is hands down the best, and you're going to spend $100 on your stick. Go ahead, just throw down the extra cash and get something that isn't cheap. I promise you, it will be worth it.
I hate the PS3 controller because it causes my hands to cramp after an hour or so of playing. Personally i love the 360 controller, and i use it for playing on my PC. So i tried to buy a third party PS3 controller, and they all more or less are junk. Both me and my roomate spent around a month trying various controllers. Most of the third party PS3-360 controllers are junk, unfortunately.

Tried it, unfortunately it causes a rather noticeable and annoying input delay that would randomly happen. I remember playing Killzone 3 and there were times where my view would keep moving for a bit, after letting off the stick.
A similar problem occurred with Red Dead Redemption, where during the duels my targeting reticule would keep moving even after i let off the stick for less than half a second (it sounds like not much, but when you need some level of precision its extremely frusturating).

Similar problems to the adapter above.

A massive dead zone in the analog sticks along with a DPAD that was completely unresponsive.
http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Elite-Wireless-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B003V4AK8E
There is a massive dead zone in the analog sticks, and feels extremely cheap. The wireless also seems to drop out at random. However it is the only 3rd party PS3 controller with 360 layout that has SIXAXIS.
http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC
Terrible, terrible controller. The analog sticks are so awful i just returned it right away.
http://www.amazon.com/POWER-FUS1ON-Tournament-Controller-PlayStation-3/dp/B0096KF7O4
I got to try this controller after it was lent to me by a friend. It worked worked really well, and i played through Killzone 2, and RDR without any issues. Unfortunately it is expensive and lacks SIXAXIS.
MadCatz also makes a MLG Controller for PS3, i tried it a couple of months ago. Overall i thought it was pretty great. But i have never seen it for sale in Canada.
Saitek also made a controller Cyborg V3 (that i can't find on amazon), that lets you flip the position of the analog sticks, but i can't find it anymore and they oddly seem to have completely switched to flight sim sticks.
