I've been asked to add this here from another post I made yesterday. I plan to add to it as I think of things.

  • I've always wanted to receive a yarn bouquet for my birthday. There's so many cool options--want yarn that's the same color as her birthstone? does she prefer a specific weight or color of yarn?--and most, if not all, of the bouquets include needles and a pattern for a project. I think it's a cool romantic gift.
  • I have been eyeing this personalized yarn bowl forever now.
  • Maybe she would like to try a new skill, like spinning, or dyeing? You might find her a starter kit--the ones at KnitPicks are a good start. I swear to god, the most romantic gift I've ever received was a set of one hundred silkworms in cocoons for me to practice processing, spinning, and dyeing.
  • We love project bags, and you might search Etsy to find a bag with a fabric pattern that crosses over into another of her interests.
  • I love Lantern Moon stitch markers. Stitch markers disappear like guitar picks and left socks, I can guarantee she'll find another set useful.
  • If you want to get her some knitter's pride swag, check out Cafe Press. Some of my favorite themes for t-shirts and tote bags are "Knit Happens" "Knit fast, die warm" "It's not a hobby, it's a post-apocalyptic life skill" etc.
  • She might be pleased to receive a gift card for one of her favorite indie dyers or suppliers. I love Leading Men Fiber Arts and if she spins, holy cow, Three Waters Farm. Seriously I couldn't even allow myself to look at those links just now.
  • This mug has been on my wishlist forever, I just can't bring myself to cover the shipping.
  • Books! Just...here. Have a look at my personal Amazon wishlist. Also--subscriptions to knitting magazines would be a cool gift that lasts all year. I like the magazines that Interweave offers. Piecework is my favorite, as I'm interested in the history behind knitting. KnitScene has some cute stuff and fun projects, but it is geared more towards beginner knitters. Sounds like she's a bit more advanced for that and might prefer Interweave Knits. Knit Simple is another more beginner-oriented magazine. What else? Oh, I personally don't care for Vogue Knitting. The patterns, while often impressive, are hardly ever practical and I personally don't feel like are worth my time.
  • One of the best Christmas gifts I've received was this knitting basket. I love project bags for their portability, but I love the authenticity of my old fashioned chairside basket.
  • Sometimes yarn is fickle. A pattern isn't making sense, or the yarn is uncooperative, and we need a break from our regularly scheduled programming. Many of us take this time to pursue cross stitch, painting, or some other kind of craft. I really like jigsaw puzzles. They give my hands a bit of a break, but keep my mind engaged in the same sort of flow that knitting provides. I love my two yarn themed puzzles: this one, this one and this one.

I'll come back if I think of extra stuff.

Bonus suggestion!!! Target is selling knitting themed wrapping paper in the Christmas section. It looks like this but unfortunately is only sold in stores and is not available online.

For my last birthday, my brother got me this cool lumos light switch. There are lots of options for similar products online and it's a project that you could probably easily make yourself with supplies from a craft/hardware store.

I had a friend give me a wall transfer once that she made with her cricut. It looked something like this and it's been on my wall for ages. Same friend also made me a couple pillows with the same machine that had Dumbledore quotes on them. Imagine this but with "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places..." on it.

I've also given out an "After Harry Potter" set of books before. For those who read Harry Potter and think "what now?" I'm sure this could be catered to the receiver, but the set I gave my friend had Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Lev Grossman's The Magicians, a printed and spiral bound set of Pottermore writings (or the ones that were available at the time), and The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook. I think I had one or two more, it was a couple years ago.

I also handmade a pair of Luna's radish earrings for a friend once. I followed a tutorial online and it was surprisingly easy - just required a pair of earrings, some wire, and a few beads and they looked great.

I guess it all depends on what kind of gift you want to give her. There is a Harry Potter application for just about everything. If your girlfriend doesn't have a lot of the standard merchandise already, you might try just checking out the local bookstore. With the release of Cursed Child, most bookstores in my area now have entire tables dedicated to Harry Potter gear. Last time I was at a Barnes and Noble I walked out with a Marauder's Map blanket. I've been sorely tempted by that 3D Hogwart's puzzle a time or two as well. And when I went on the WB studio tour, I got this really cool wand necklace. It comes in an Ollivander's box, though it is a bit pricey.

Good luck. Happy birthday to the gf!

If your only cube is a 3x3, you might want to consider spending ~$20 on the MoFang Jiaoshi Cubing Classroom set. It includes:

  • 2x2 MF2S
  • 3x3 MF3S (if you get the stickered set) or MF3RS (if you get the stickerless set)
  • 4x4 MF4S
  • 5x5 MF5S

The 2x2 isn't awesome, but it's good enough to give you a feel for the puzzle and is pretty similar to a LingPo which costs a bit more and still has catching problems. The 3x3 MF3RS (I got stickerless so I can only comment on that one) is a great budget cube that gets a lot of praise all over this sub, and for good reason. Some of the reviews weren't too kind to the MF4S, but I quite like it and given how the Wuque alone costs as much as this entire set and STILL isn't great out of the box, I'd say start with this for 4x4 and upgrade later if you want to get more serious about it. The MF5S is nice, and while it is the only 5x5 I've used I'm happy with it. All in all, great deal for the price and a nice way to try out several puzzles to see what you enjoy solving the most.

    The Cubicle

    Amazon

Note: Amazon says it has the MF3S, and they're wrong. It's the stickerless set and has the MF3RS, just like The Cubicle says. A note of caution: I got the set from Amazon and the cubes we're scuffed up a little, so they didn't exactly arrive in pristine condition, but the price was good and they work fine so I wasn't going to complain. I wiped them down and they're fine.
u/Bob_Pandora · 1 pointr/Cubers

I know people don't recommend amazon to buy cubes, but I'm going to link some of them there and you can figure out where to buy them if you choose to do so. This is the Fangshi. It is the same size as your GuHong. Thisis the one I have and I love it. It's slightly smaller, which I like, and it has a cool "illusion" look. As for 4x4s, the shengshou is a great cube for beginners as it is very cheap yet a very good cube in general. It locks a little, but it used to be considered the best 4x4. Because of its low price you can see whether you like solving 4x4 before getting a more expensive one. Often considered the best cube on the market, the Moyu Aosu is quite expensive, but it also comes in a stickerless version which is awesome! I just ordered one last week and it's suppose to come in tomorrow; I'm super excited!

Comfy Clothes/Pajamas

There are so many cute outfits and pajama sets on sale this time of year. They usually even come bundled up, neatly folded and tied with a pretty bow. Target, Kohls, and Marshalls have goof selections.

Old Navy usually has super comfortable waffle-knit tops, fleeces, and sweaters, usually for $12 or less.

There's always these slippers: https://www.amazon.com/Doctor-Who-Womens-TARDIS-Slippers/dp/B00KMR92C8/

And this shirt seems pretty popular: https://www.amazon.com/Ripple-Junction-T-Shirt-Charcoal-Heather/dp/B00G31LGTE/

Cats

Does she have a cat of her own? If so, consider getting a fun treat for the cat.

She might get a laugh out of this book: https://www.amazon.com/Sorry-Barfed-Other-Heartwarming-Letters/dp/1449427049/

If not, every sale from this site goes to support animals. These socks are pretty cute:

Crocheting

Could she use some yarn?

What about some stitch markers? https://www.amazon.com/Clover-353-Lock-Ring-Markers/dp/B0019KAEEC/

This puzzle was popular with some bloggers I follow: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AKXAJ58/

This book is about knitting, but the author is laugh-out-loud hilarious: https://www.amazon.com/Yarn-Harlot-Secret-Life-Knitter/dp/0740750372/

Reading

Well, books, of course! ;)

Does she like prints? If so, this one might be great: https://www.etsy.com/listing/469644875/harry-potter-library-quote-poster-print

This book recently came out; I've been following the blog for eons: https://www.amazon.com/Literary-Starbucks-Fresh-Brewed-Half-Caf-No-Whip/dp/1250096790/

These candles smell like literature: http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/literary-candles

Does she like tea? It's book themed: https://www.amazon.com/contains-teabags-individually-literary-Breakfast/dp/B002RT2W1M

Ideally, she has an interest in the game overall, but the situations and play does not suit her, before a final "You're out." try to see if there's something she is interested in that can be added without detracting from the rest of the game. The 5e DMG (p.6) has a list of main things that players like to get from their game (the list is quite applicable to any system). Some people like just one or two things from the list, others like a whole bunch. Maybe she's really into puzzles, in which case you just a one or two puzzle rooms to the next dungeons and at the end the party finds a puzzle box, so any time she's being nonsocial you just assume her character is fiddling with it obsessively (could even make it a physical artifact!)

u/boogiemanspud · 3 pointsr/coolguides

This guy has a great site about solving cubes:
http://badmephisto.com/

His youtube channel has some really good stuff too:
https://www.youtube.com/user/badmephisto

I use this cheat sheet:
http://badmephisto.com/begsoln/

It's a lot of fun. I do it because it's fun to try to beat your own times, it's great for maintaining good hand eye coordination, and also keeping your hands/fingers dexterous. I work with air tools at work (which is terribly hard on your hands) so I do this as sort of a finger strengthening and dexterity exercise. It's surprisingly fun and not that difficult to learn. I just watched the videos a few times and followed along with the "cheat sheet" until I remembered it all.

EDIT: Rubik's brand are O.K. but honestly they suck. Look into getting some speed cubes. They can actually be bought for less than Rubik's brand cubes if you look around. It's a night and day difference. This is my favorite cube: http://www.amazon.com/5-46cm-Fangshi-Funs-Sticker-Primary/dp/B00DRH0TX6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1420045474&sr=8-3&keywords=funs+speed+cube .
I have tried several different kinds, including the lubix cube. Lubix cubes are good, but overpriced by about $17 in my personal opinion.

u/baccgirl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Beautiful, hot, sexy /u/morthy

How can I ever tell you how much you mean to me? This spectacular puzzle is something that I desperately want, but certainly don't need.

You see, I already have one 18240 piece puzzle in progress, one 5000 piece puzzle also in progress, another 18240 piece puzzle ready to go, 4 x 1000 piece puzzles still wrapped in their boxes, another 8000 piece puzzle sitting in my cupboard.

To say I "want" this, is very true, it combines all my loves into one, but to say I "need" this means that I will have to "puzzle my ass off" to get to it and start it!

This would mean having NO social life, staying up until 5am during the week, getting no sleep, eating crap food...but at the end of it all, a stunning puzzle will be ready to hang!

u/Adeptus_Astartes · 1 pointr/space

These would be amazing in puzzles. OP, get someone from Ravensburger or some other great puzzle company and get these made. I bought this last year and it's amazing! Yours would look awesome as well!

u/wait_save_bandit · 1 pointr/popping

I agree, if you like that sort of thing it's a great excuse to get your nails done. A family friend would to this to help with dermatillomania, because the length and texture of fake nails made it physically harder to pick at her skin. I imagine it would be more difficult to pick at the actual nails as well.

I don't bite my nails but I do mess with acne or pull at my eyebrows if my nails get too long, so I just keep them really short. Cutting them short with a few coats of thick polish (so you can't bite or tear at them) may be as helpful as fake nails.

Kind of the same but not really - my husband tends to take off his left shoe and sock when he drives and pick at the sock (why I have no idea). We bought him some nice, super comfy socks and an infinity cube to mess with instead. So far it's seemed to help.

Idk. Unsolicited advice, but I wanted to throw that out there in case something was helpful. :)

Alright, so you have a few options.

  1. Replace your shower head with this LED one. Requires no batteries as it uses the water pressure to activate. Have fun taking awesome showers in the dark with neon water.

  2. Get a magic drawer box. Its a fun gift for a friend. Watch as they struggle to figure out the puzzle. Of course, once they solve it, you should have 1500 live lady bugs inside

  3. With 50 dollars you would also have enough to buy 750 glow in the dark stars. Enough to decorate your house or room to look like this

Plenty more options/ideas on this website http://www.justtenorless.com/

u/bruxbuddies · 2 pointsr/RATS

Since you asked about rat proofing, in addition to the Tespo playpen (put together with zipties so it folds flat), I would recommend putting down something like this foam puzzle playmat, and then a blanket on top of that. The mat is actually very easy to put together and take apart, liquid doesn't really get through to the other side, and it's easy to clean. Your rats will probably chew on some of the corners, but they seem to stick to a favorite chewing spot, so I usually just let them obsess on that spot until it looks pretty chewed up, then swap out the mat piece.

If you do let them free roam through the whole place, don't leave them unattended for more than a few minutes. You may find that they've gotten bored and started working on a project (like mine, which were stripping the drywall behind the couch).

u/goatserevival · 9 pointsr/gaming

I read somewhere that they were called "The Imp", but wikipedia has them under "15 puzzle". I learned how to solve one in less than 10 seconds thanks to final fantasy, and eventually bought this one, which is pretty sturdy and has lasted me almost 10 years. Don't buy the keychain version, though, it breaks down pretty quick.

u/JonBargan · 1 pointr/2007scape

I love how two comments and the poster spelt Diango's name wrong.

I'd love this. Windows 7 comes with a picture puzzle gadget and my fasted time with it is 0:24 seconds. Used to play it in school since you could get detention for playing games on the internet and the games that comes with Windows were disabled.

I'd like personal high scores and not global. If someone gets lucky and everything is correct but one tile they could get a extremely quick time.

I would absolutely love this though.

Edit: I also had this as a kid. Taught myself how to solve it on long trips in the car.

u/LilithSiren · 2 pointsr/Rabbits

I used these in my buns expen and are now in his temporary cage. They are a great price and nice and soft. They are also nice for sitting with him, much nicer than flat on the ground.

u/deltasalmon · 0 pointsr/Cubers

Solve time = move count / TPS (Turns per Second)

So to reduce solve time you need to reduce move count or increase your TPS. To reduce move count you can learn new algorithms and try to work on reducing your 4LLL to 2LLL. To increase your TPS you need to work on fingertricks and also getting "a chinese cube of some sort" could help. When I got serious about improving my time I started with a QiYi Warrior W. For $7 it's asking for that much dedication.

u/preggomommy · 2 pointsr/RandomActsOfChristmas

This would be amazing. I personally love Melissa and Doug because these toys are both fun AND often educational. I would like to enter my munchkins in this contest. Bobby is four and September will soon be two.

When I click the link I do not see any toys, not sure if the sale is over or not But, if we are chosen I think that they would like anything. My son is the usual boy, into transportation vehicles, especially trains and dinosaurs. My daughter is not picky at all, but I think would be excited to get something princess related.

I have been eyeballing this at the store.

u/captain_deudermont · 5 pointsr/arkhamhorrorlcg

Just thought, but my Mum love to do jigsaw puzzles. She uses a large jigsaw folder to hold the pieces in place to move it. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Puzzle-Mates-Portapuzzle-Standard-Accessory/dp/B0016FQK1Q/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=jigsaw+foldable&qid=1565339601&s=gateway&sr=8-6

u/runningsneaker · 3 pointsr/Cubers

I got this set of 4 cube (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GF966/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

i have been doing some reading and I am trying to figure out how good that 3x3 is. It feels WAY faster than what I had been using - use thing with carbon colored stickers and corners that are cut which I picked up $3 at my local "deals and discount" on whim. As with all hobbies, I sense there are diminishing returns as you move up in price point - a $30 cube is probably 200% better than a $20 cube but 98% as good as the $40 cube - but I just dont know where this sits on the spectrum.

Any thoughts lol?

u/Raeko_22 · 2 pointsr/Jigsawpuzzles

I also tried shipping boxes for years, but I easily lost pieces while moving the whole thing around. That's when i bought a sort of puzzle mat, that has a rather solid back and closable side wings. The puzzle enclosed, is on some kind of fabric so that individual pieces can't move when its shut. This made it so much more convenient, to move any puzzle in the making around the flat. (I am rather slow and interest is fluctuating so it sometimes takes me a few weeks :P) You can find it here: https://www.amazon.de/Jumbo-10806-Puzzle-Portapuzzle-Standard/dp/B0016FQK1Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=jumbo+puzzlematte&qid=1567344117&s=gateway&sr=8-4

The moose looks dope by the way :)

u/Fhlux · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

It was only 1000, believe it or not haha. It looks a lot harder than it is. Only took me about five hours to put together. I looked on your list but didn’t see it. It’s the EuroGraphics Solar System puzzle. 😊

u/nomotivationandtired · 2 pointsr/casualiama

Interesting. Beginner here, I played a bit long time ago.

If I want to casually play with a cube again, what type/brand do you advise?

I was looking at these 2:

u/silverwoodchuck47 · 4 pointsr/pics

Amazon sells this puzzle for $264.05 & FREE Shipping.

But if you think 24,000 pieces is for pussies, then maybe try Keith Haring: Double Retrospect - 32000 Pieces Puzzle? Apparently, this puzzle weighs 42 lbs and comes with its own hand truck.

u/Peanlocket · 347 pointsr/oddlysatisfying

It's based on a twisty puzzle called the Gear Shift and it's pretty cool even though it's not very difficult to solve.

u/scorpionsting6x3 · 1 pointr/pics

It's not being made anymore, but amazon is still selling them. The newer version looks loads more fun: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IVOPK52/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

u/ChristianCuber · 4 pointsr/Cubers

I think its possibly an attempt to make a high quality one of these. https://www.amazon.com/CuberSpeed-Cubetwist-Bandaged-Black-3X3X3/dp/B0711LGKKR?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-ffab-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0711LGKKR

Edit: which by the way is a fun cube to mess with it you ever wanted to attempt bandaged cubes and didn't want to buy 20+ different bandaged configurations.

If my assumption is true, i will definitely throw my money at this one.

u/Skyler_Luke · 1 pointr/MandelaEffect

I am a Floridan. I have zero fucking clue tbh about it being flat or not. I remember looking up there and going along the river where it kind of splits the state.

But as for people believing it was flat, we usually will make puzzles and such flatter so it's easier to fit things in for kids.

IE: https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Floor-Puzzle-feet/dp/B000GKAU1I obviously the states are a bit wonky

It's just easier to remember it as flat rather than this weird line. If you asked me to draw Texas, I'd draw a triangle with a rectangle on top even tho that's not how it actually is. When I draw Florida, I kinda even out the curves.

Idk if it’s 2 years...

u/Party_Like_Its_1789 · 2 pointsr/Jigsawpuzzles

I don't know what the difference between Deluxe and Standard is, but Jumbo also do this one which suits puzzles up to 1500 and is cheaper than the one you linked. Also the 1000 one may not fit all 1000 piece puzzles, whilst the 1500 should.

I have a 1500 port a puzzle board (you can see it in my history) and I love it. I really don't think you need to spend more than 50 at the max for a board.

Working on this one at work right now. It's actually been pretty enjoyable.

This is the one I have, and I loved it so much I bought one for my mother too. It's a bit pricey, but so worth it to easily have my dining room table back whenever I'm having company.

I just ordered http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HS5BYVO/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1459198342&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=foam+mat&dpPl=1&dpID=415z-F4J1vL&ref=plSrch

Which is 6'x 6' square. And a ton of t pins.

I just finished and blocked my first large thing. I used old boxes, like amzon box, the wet wipes box ect. And laid towles on it. I poked my pins through the towles in to the boxes. Worked great.

Yes, that's more the theme I'm looking for. I actually picked up the JR set of that. Also, puzzles like this http://www.amazon.com/Think-Fun-6820-ThinkFun-Gordians/dp/B000EGI4OO/

Kids borrow these toys for about a week so having different types of toys (beyond legos and erector sets) is what I'm looking for.

u/mjmaher81 · 1 pointr/Cubers

If you're looking for something like that, maybe try a fifteen puzzle, like this.

Amazon link. It turns just fine. Not a speed cube, but fine for the methodical pace suited for bandaged mods.

I haven't yet, they're currently sitting under my bed, haha. I'm going to be moving soon so unfortunate I'll have to take them apart to transport them :/ oh well, then I can redo them! This is the puzzle I want! Isn't it beautiful!!! It's 14ft long and 5ft tall, I think.

It really depends on the individual. My personal favorite is an Infinity Cube.

u/inanimatus_conjurus · 1 pointr/Cubers

I have a theory about that price markup thing. Cubelelo has an Amazon store where they sell a lot of the same products as their website. By showing the MRP as much higher than it is, they can claim to have a 50-60% discount on the products. Example.

I assume this boosts the hit rate for Amazon searches, and definitely promotes impulse buying when the general public sees such large discounts. Not the best business practice, but lots of sellers do this.

u/Tessaract2 · 4 pointsr/Cubers

Surprisingly, the QiYi Warrior W is less expensive than a Rubik's brand. It's my first speedcube, and even after only a few days it's served me well.

I did accidentally break it today while trying to put it back together (to be fair, I have no idea how) after a purposeful pop, so do keep that in mind

I came looking for this. Sorry if I missed it.

I know it looks the same but for the sake of being redundant is this the same one?

u/schunniky · 3 pointsr/sydney

I was reading a reddit thread today on rubik's cubes and decided after talking to a few people that I should start playing with cubes again. So after getting some suggestions for a new cube I've ordered this.

I remember in high school we were all obsessed with speedcubing. especially /u/aznblur :P that was so long ago...

That makes two different things I've gotten into this week. Getting back into cubes and learning the fine art of controlling a quadcopter. :D

I finished a Ravensburger puzzle a month or so ago (Anne Stokes of a white haired girl holding a baby dragon) It was pretty easy and a lot of fun. I have to add another layer of glue to it and get it in a frame as of right now it's home is under my coffee table. I have another puzzle that I need to get done that is 1000 piece that is in the shape of a dragon. My goal is to one day do this 24,000 piece puzzle but as it stand I'd have absolutely no place to do it as my house is not big enough, and even if I did manage to get it done, no wall is big enough to hang it on. It measures 14 feet long and my longest is 12 feet.

u/SoKeT · 1 pointr/speedsliding

I'm not really interested in solving super fast, just for fun, but I don't want a puzzle that feels unpleasant. I've seen this one on some youtube videos and it looks decent, what do you think about it?

Also, is it hard to disassemble the one you mention?

u/AlbaNera · 3 pointsr/italy

u/bonafidebob · 18 pointsr/oddlysatisfying

>But... I have bad news: I actually found an 18,000 piece puzzle.

How about a 32K piece puzzle?
