TL;DR - The math isn't very accurate, and electromagnet circuits require a few considerations.

Not an expert, but I did a little bit of searching and found an equation that might be relevant. A lot of the ones we've learned in lecture so far only deal with ideal solenoids. That is, they model the magnetic and electric fields inside the coil. With real world electromagnets, mathematically modeling the field (let alone calculating the force it exerts on a nearby ferromagnetic object) gets really complicated really fast. However, we're in luck.
I did some searching for commercial electromagnets and noticed that a most of them have a specification called "holding force". For some reason, half of them list this spec in kg and the other half list it in Newtons (N). If it's in kg, multiply by 9.8 to convert it to newtons.
The holding force seems to be the maximum force exerted by the EM when in direct contact with a ferromagnetic object, but WE want to know the force at a distance. According to Daycounter Engineering Solutions, the force at distance can be calculated with the following:
Force = (Holding Force Spec)\^2 x (magnetic constant) * (Area of solenoid's face) / (distance \^2)
magnetic constant = 4 * pi * 10\^-7
*Measure area and distance in meters
A quick look at this equation tells me that whatever result we get is going to be a very, very rough approximation. Now for the math.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Say an average nail weight 15g = 0.015 kg = 0.147 N
We need a magnetic force greater than that to pick it up. Note that this doesn't account for the speed of the bike. In reality, we'll need something much stronger to lift it. Let's double it for approximation's sake.
F (needed) = 2 x F (gravity) = 0.294 = 0.3
We also know that our distance is 2.5" off the ground = 0.0635 m = 0.06 m
Most of the EMs I found on Amazon have a surface area of approximately 0.008 m\^2
Plugging all of these numbers into that first equation and solving for the Holding Force Spec yields:
Holding Force = 104 Newtons (N)
*I'm about 68% confident that this result is semi-accurate.*
-------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said in my previous comment, you need pretty beefy boi. EMs at this strength totally exist though. Here's one I found on amazon. You might also consider, in a more accurate equation, that you might not be biking directly over the object (reducing it's effect dramatically), the objects' varying ferromagnetic compositions, and the fact that the magnet is moving (relatively fast considering the forces involved). Powering the magnet for long-ish periods of time (10 mins) will also cause it to heat up, increasing the wire's resistance, and reducing the magnetic field. Depending on the bike's battery, you may also need to employ a DC-DC boost / buck converter to achieve the right voltage. And, of course, safety is a big worry too.
Hope you found some of this interesting. I had a fun time reviewing my notes and searching around the internet for this post. Cheers.
It won't be great, but it's totally doable... and the next person in the house will be completely baffled. But that's not your problem!
There's enough wires in there that you can just wire them up. You'll want keystone jacks like this https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Keystone-GearIT-Punch-Down-Connector/dp/B01FNF27HU and basically just stick the same color wire in the same hole on each pair of keystones.
Normally you want to make sure the right wires are paired together (the term you might have heard is 'twisted pair' cable), that really helps with data throughput and quality. But that's not exactly applicable to what you have. I'm sure there's ways of testing the wires to see which pairs are best, but I have no clue what they are.
Though before you go through the fiddly work of wiring up the keystones, I'd check each wire with a continuity tester.
Greetings All! This is my second post to this subreddit. The first one can be found here. I've really tried to streamline my EDC and only keep items that I use everyday or that would be useful in an emergency. I've also picked up a lot of stuff after seeing similar items on this subreddit. Literally the only things that haven't been substituted for something I've seen or heard about on /r/EDC are my phone, my keys, and my watch (which will soon be getting replaced with a pebble).
So without any further ado, here is a list of my EDC. Numbers correspond to the picture in the OP. Impressions of the items can be found in the descriptions in this album.

If you're wondering what my keychain looks like put together, here and here are pictures of it all connected to the s-biner. Since I removed the Gerber Dime from my EDC, my keychain has beomce a lot less bulky. I rarely ever feel it in my pocket, and if I do all it takes is a quick adjustment to make them comfy.
If you want to see some more pictures and get some more info on my Spyderco Tasman Salt, you can check out my post on /r/knifeclub here.
If you missed it at the top of the post, a short review on the items can be found in their descriptions in this imgur album.
Not Pictured But Always Carried: Sunglasses, water bottle, and bic lighter. I didn't include pictures of these because I couldn't frame it properly with the sunglasses and the water bottle. I forgot to include the lighter in the pictures, but you're not missing much. It's simply a blue bic lighter.
Not Pictured, Sometimes Carried: iPod Classic, V-Moda m80 Headphones - picture. Often I will take these along if I know I'm going to have a slow day and have some time to kill listening to music.

So that's it! Everything I carry on a day to day basis. I want to thank this sub so much for helping me sink almost an entire paycheck into these great items! I get so many great ideas from this sub.
Thank's for looking everyone. Have a great day/afternoon/night!
In lieu of the cable attachment, you could do a DIU Spud Inc. solution.
I ordered all my parts yesterday, I will post an update and review when they come in.
$21.95 - Loading Pin
$26.95 - Straps, Carabiner, & Bonus Grandfather Clock Grip System
$21.60 - Nylon Coated Wire Assembly
$35.70 - Rescue Pulley's
I had 2 extra carabiner's from my abstraps, otherwise you'll have to buy 2. (Or just buy ab straps)
All-In I'm $106 for what I'm expecting to be a very good system.
Once this comes in and I can measure things up, I plan on getting 2 more lengths of nylon coated wire assemblies. Then I can anchor a second pulley low for rows or mid-rack for external/interal rotations and other various exercises.
Edit: I should mention, there's ways to do this even cheaper, but I think these options are a good balance of value, performance, safety, and install time.
What to buy in order
Absolute first thing to buy is a fire extinguisher from Amazon. You can get a mount for it, mount it somewhere you can quickly get it
2) winch
3) air compressor.
This is what I suggest
Smittybilt 2781 5.65 CFM Universal Air Compressor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004K25GMG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_NF0ADbPPPVFC2
I'm not a smittybilt kinda guy, but that one is good. ARB makes a good one for more money. When you offroad, air down to 15psi
4) tools
Buy this first
TEKTON 3/8-Inch Drive 6-Point Socket & Ratchet Set, Inch/Metric, 5/16-Inch - 3/4-Inch, 8 mm - 19 mm, 47-Piece (Case) | SKT15301 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P6RJXJ9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3K0ADbPSAB4NG
That'll get most of your minor stuff fixed
Then, get a torx bit set. I have 2 sets from harbor freight.
Then, when budget allows, get this
TEKTON 1/2-Inch Drive 6-Point Socket & Ratchet Set, Inch/Metric, 3/8-Inch - 1-5/16-Inch, 10 mm - 32 mm, 84-Piece (Case) | SKT25302 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P7WLYFH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ML0ADb04NMYX3
Get a 36mm socket for the axle nut
All that, plus various other hand tools (torque wrench, repair manual, rtv adhesive) , and you'll be able to fix everything on your jeep. I keep all that stuff in my metal box in the rear of my wrangler at all times.
5) get some ammo cans and fill them with various spare parts such as U-joints or what not
6) bottle jack or high lift. I prefer a bottle jack
Torin Big Red Hydraulic Bottle Jack, 6 Ton Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CO86EG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TO0ADb8MSFCNM
And carry at least 2 jack stands with you at all times
7) if you don't have lockers, this is the part where you start saving up for lockers (and/or Dana 60 axles)
Edit : just seen you have a Rubicon, you can skip number 7 😎
Shoelaces sounds like a bad idea. You want thicker, softer rope. Buy something like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cotton-Rope-9mm-X-15meter/dp/B000UYTSYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369779667&sr=8-1&keywords=Rope - you won't regret it. And it's super cheap. I cut mine into two shorter lengths, it's really good.
This tie is useful and easy: http://angblev.com/post/35350375227/two-column-tie-2012-ink - practice on your own legs first.
If you want to use belts it's pretty self explanatory... Just wrap it round and close it with the buckle.
If you want to do any long term camping, the first trick you need to learn is the home made canopy. Takes about 30-45 minutes to set up and makes a rainy trip much more enjoyable.
First you need a large tarp, something like this. Then you need like 2 packs of ratchet straps and a nice rope like this. Finally, a couple packs of heavy duty metal tent stakes and some small rope
So you find an area that has 2 trees about 50 feet apart and tie the rope around the trunk about 10 feet up. Then run it over to the other tree, but instead of tying it to the tree, make a knot that leaves a loop sticking out. Put a ratchet strap around the tree and connect that to the rope loop and pull it tie. It'll stretch after a bit so you can tighten it up more as needed without undoing the whole thing.
Then you throw the tarp over the rope and create an A frame style canopy. Use the stakes and extra ratchet straps to tighten the corners down nicely then use stakes and the 1/4" rope to fill in the gaps.
So 45 minutes later you have a 1000 square foot pavilion to camp under, it can rain all it wants. It's also high enough that you can build a modest fire under and not damage the tarp.
Throw out some chairs, fold out picnic table and you're good to go.
175lb magnet and 1200lb tensile strength rope from Paracord planet on Amazon was what I was recommended.
Looked back and order was cheaper those two and gloves for about the cost of your magnet. Can always move up. What I was recommended below.
Rivers are still too high for kayaking safely so can't really speak on it but was not overkilling it and am totally not a strong enough person to pull out an ATM or safe. Figure I can get more later but if I do something stupid it's better to have a cheaper smaller magnet and I can just use my phone to get GPS coordinates to the bigger item that forces my hand on a pricier one.
magnet
rope

May have better advice from others.
Strongly disagree. HGTV has made it extremely difficult to find actual barn door track systems, and instead you're left with $50 stamped steel garbage on Amazon.
I'm building a proper outdoor sliding door for my shed, and I'm using Unistrut (also called Unirail) with some ball-bearing trolleys. It's worth browsing sites like TractorSupply and ranching/farming suppliers to get actual durable hardware.
This system might also be a good solution; you'll need to get some more track and weld it all together into a continuous piece though.
Here's TractorSupply.com's door hardware page. Lots of good options here.
Depending on what level of cool-looking overkill you're after you could also go for a proper beam trolley riding on an I-beam: Beam Trolley. It shouldn't be terribly expensive and if you have access to a cheap stick welder you can pretty easily mount an I-beam up to some brackets and bolt it straight into the frame members of your barn.
If you're going to build a big door with heavy timbers or a steel frame you will want to keep the total weight in mind, as the consumer stuff won't hold up well to a 300lb sliding
saildoor on the side of your barn.Depending on the type of metal some neodymium magnets would easily be able to exert enough force to adhere the eye bolts. You would just need to go with some of the larger ones. Just be careful because the attraction power of them can be intense.

748lbs of pull strength means once it's on there you might not be easily removing it though. Although it does meet your criteria haha.
This one is a bit more reasonable https://www.amazon.com/BIGTEDDY-Recovery-Neodymium-Countersunk-Magnetic/dp/B0764G7272/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=large+neodymium+magnets&qid=1559103987&s=gateway&sprefix=large+neod&sr=8-12
Now if the cladding is aluminum or real stainless then magnets won't do much. But that's an easy thing to test with a magnet off your fridge.

Check that out. It is a jackstand + a bottle jack. Most bottle jacks have just a knurled nub to lift on - very dicey. This is a jack stand for added safety (does NOT negate the need for real jack stands!) but also has a nice curved lift head to get a good seat on axle/frame. Be safe, rover on.

I have the top of a wide Powerade bottle taped onto the top with light green duct tape to help it not get snagged on anything. I also put the green duct tape all over the bottom to protect the magnet and make it easier to scrape little shards of metal off.
The best way to get some stuff is to just lightly bob it up and down along the bed of the water.
If you are going to magnet fish make sure to take a pair of work gloves because you definitely do not want to get cut by any of the metal shards.
Also, if you ever need to cut your magnet because it got caught in some rocks or something, take a picture or make a mental note on where you lost it so you can buy a cheaper magnet and just pull out your old one.
Come on down to r/magnetfishing and see for yourself. It's a pretty interesting, cheap, and easy hobby. I have a 330 lb magnet that I got from Amazon for about 15 bucks. I'm upgrading to an 880 lb one for 45 dollars. This would be a fine starter one https://www.amazon.com/Wukong-Powerful-Neodymium-Magnetic-Diameter/dp/B071LLWTVH/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?crid=1QDDIWU5SLOSZ&keywords=magnet+fishing&qid=1557250369&s=gateway&sprefix=magnet+&sr=8-17
I mostly just fine fishing lures and metal junk but I found a license plate from 1969 which was pretty cool.
This is the setup I have and it works great!

Been here lurking for a while and finally decided to post my EDC. Since there's been some discussion lately as to where people carry their EDC that is how my list below is broken down. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

For those interested in the EZGO and KeySmart my opinions are as follows.
I like the EZGOs form-factor, but after owning it for a while it doesn't 'stretch' at all for what's in there. I have two credit cards, ID, insurance and a punch card in mine and it's like pulling teeth to get anything out of it. Also, since it's made to fit cards, anything bigger than that can't be accommodated. As a result I have my CPL, vehicle insurance and KOBALT tool rubber-banded to the thing. I've been eyeing the Flipside 3X as a replacement, but their shipping is around $7 which is over 10% the cost of the wallet... hence my apprehension in buying one.
As for the KeySmart, I've had it a couple of days and so far I dig it but with a couple of caveats. They include two keyblanks for Schlage-style keys. I took one of them to Lowe's to have it cut and there was an issue with the blank, as a result their machine could not provide an accurate copy. I purchased a key from Lowe's and they made it without issue. Not sure what kind of weird science is up with the blanks they included, but I would be leery of buying their 'lightweight' and colored blanks as you may have similar results. My second issue may be somewhat nitpicky, but it's next to impossible to open the door with one hand anymore. Hands full of groceries or mail? Well, you better plan ahead on getting your key flipped out prior to getting to the door, other wise you'll be settin' that shit down.
Would I buy the EZGO Slim again? No. Would I buy the KeySmart again? Yes.

Good luck! :)
I've looked into this quite a bit and the best way I found (which may be overkill) is to get the following:
The turnbuckles would really only be needed if you don't believe you could get the steel cable tight enough, but if you have a short span it shouldn't be an issue. If you plan to run the steel cable through each eye hook and only have the terminals at the ends, then the turnbuckle may be needed.
EDIT:
They also make much cleaner looking solutions where the terminals have a built-in turnbuckle like THIS and terminals that have a lag bolt already attached which would remove the need for eye hooks like THIS

Brute 880, 20% off coupon, first time users of the amazon assistant download can search for it from there and get another 10 bucks off, pick a slower than 2 day free delivery date and they give you a little bit more credit.
turns 46 bucks into 26 faster than I could type this, gp, not counting the 6% back by using the amazon credit card or that annoying no interest for 6 months.
Worked for me, not like that jacked up JC Penny sale for womens swim wear half off. False advertising that day. gp
Scissor jacks are absolute trash, even when you're just using them to change a tire on perfectly level ground.
The minimum i do is ditch the scissor jack, get a wider base bottle jack. That's just for emergencies.
Actual floor jack is 100% needed if you're doing planned work, along with jack stands.
I'll admit, i've gone under a car supported by floor jacks before - it was fine... but i've also seen too many accidents happen to chance it anymore.
Scissor jack is good for the garbage only.
There are also bottle jack stands - locking jack stand and lift in one.

I don't know how to do the math on the strength of the magnet, not sure how we measure that. I can do the math on the price though:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074BQ2X6G/
For me, it's $12.49, I bought one a month or two back, it's a very strong magnet.
I really like this jack for my Jeep -easy to use and you can get rid of your jack stand. Watch the price on it, I picked it up for $38.

I did a DIY setup, with everything coming from Amazon except the carabiners, which you can pretty much find anywhere. Here's the links for the parts:
Steel Cable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YDK49M/
Wire Rope Clips: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00III7IP6/
Pulleys: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BD6BSQ/
Thimbles: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038YY3LW/
Tie-down Straps (for hanging pulleys from the rack): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AS5QC1C/
Loading Pin: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IRY5U14/
Assuming you have some tools around, this should be everything you would need. I recommend a bolt cutter if you don't already have one. I thought I would be able to cut the steel cable with the wire cutters built into my pliers and it was not happening. Ended up having to make a trip to the tool shop this morning to get that.
For electronics: Garmin watch with HRM & strap. RoadID. Jawbone UP.
I'm about to be experimenting with water for the Summer months here in Florida. I bought a handheld and didn't like it. Then I got a good deal on a camelback-like setup. I've also considered hear belts that hold like 2-4 small bottles, but I'll check out this backpack setup. I usually just run with a Halo headband to catch sweat, but I'm going to try a Brooks visor to not only absorb sweat but keep the sun off my face. I'm trying my damndest to not resign myself to the treadmill this Summer.
Also, for car keys these are priceless. Super tiny. If you have a keychain setup where you can take your ignition key off by itself (which you should, because having your other keys dangling from your ignition can cause damage over time), you clip this onto your top lace and tuck the bottom of the key into a lower lace and your key stays put.
Hello! Do you have any rivers, ponds or bodies of water near you? If so, you should try magnet fishing. Magnet fishing is where you have a magnet (Usually 100-500 pound test) attached to a rope, and throw it into the body of water, and drag it back into shore. You can find anything. you can get cheap magnets on Amazon, such as:
This, a 350 Pound test magnet, or This, a 290 Pound test magnet
It fits in with Metal Detecting very well.
Snap links (like this http://imgur.com/X6dPd) Or carabiners? I have some of the Nite Eyes S carabiners (hard plastic) like this. Harbor Freight carries them too, if you have one close by.
So.... those magnets would work just fine in city driving. Just keep it off the interstate, unless you go for the jumbo magnets.
I bought my little kit on amazon for $25. Came with the rope and everything. I’ll link it.
