Hey! I really like your site but I figured I'd throw a couple of ideas your way. Just some things you may not be aware of or hadn't gotten to yet.

Alternate Rules - There are leagues all over the country and they have all made some tweaks to the rules to make the game more fun and it's really helped grow the game. If I were you, I'd present some of the variations in rules so people have some options and can find the version that fits best for them. For example, The Palisades WBL is fast pitch on a 90 degree field with no base running. They also allow almost any type of plastic bat to be used. It's a really fun way to play the game and they have tons of videos recapping their league play.

WSEM plays a similar style as the Palisades WBL but they run the bases.

The gold standard, however, is probably the NWLA Tournament. They only use the OG yellow bat and unscuffed wiffle balls, use a 90 degree field and they run the bases.

Ball Scuffing - I think having some of Wiffleboy28's stuff would be a good idea too. Scuffing the wiffleball can add control and give the ball a bigger break, although your balls will wear out quicker and some people think it's cheating. However, the biggest leagues all scuff.

Additional Equipment - You missed some of the best bats out there!

  1. Palisades WBL GTSOH Bat. Whoa, this thing has some pop. I think 160 feet or so is the deepest shot we've seen with this guy. These bats are hand assembled and have a wooden dowel for a handle which gives the bat great balance. $35.

  2. Louisville Slugger C271 (The Griffey Bat) This thing looks pretty normal but when you square it up the ball jumps off this bat. Plus it's $12.

  3. Moonshot Bats - Have you got $200 to blow on a wiffle ball bat? If so, this is where you go...

As someone who lives in south mission beach, and plays frequently, Ill break it down for you. If you're all the way south at the jetty, those are "challenge courts" and they have rules posted on the posts. Weekday daytime shouldnt be an issue at all, but once 5 oclock hits those courts will generally be mobbed with people trying to play. Challenge court means that even if you're there first, someone can call "next" and youd have to honor it, and most likely, if you're beginner level and in a group, youd have to plays 2s, probably lose the game, and the court as its now the winners court. The more northern row of the jetty courts tends to be friendlier to groups while the row of courts nearest the lot tends to be the big boys. You're also probably less likely to get kicked off a womens net as those seem to lend themselves to womens games and coed group games. On the weekend, those courts can be used for closed games (no challenges allowed) until 10am, but then revert to challenge courts again at 10. If you move slightly north to Cohasset and Dover courts, those arent technically challenge courts, but there will be some advanced players on the Cohasset red courts tuesday, wednesday, thursday evening and weekends at 8 that will claim rights. The purple, green, yellow and blue courts on Dover are very coed/group friendly, non challenge courts that can be found open more than the red cohasset courts on the weekdays, and weekends theyll generally be taken by 8 or 9, and open back up by 1 depending on the crowds. Anything north of that are usually just posts and youd need your own net and lines to set up (same with the Pit across from Belmont park). If youre really trying to get into volleyball, and foresee many games with your friends and dont want to deal with the hassle of challenge courts, and avoid the dread of going to play only to find there are no courts open and dont want to assert yourself on challenge courts, you and the gang can always get your own net to set up for fairly cheap and never have to worry about public courts and getting the boot! I know thats a lot to take in, but it can be a little confusing and intimidating out there, and just wanna set you up for success and awesome volleyball!

Spectrum Classic Volleyball Net - Amazon

u/blimp · 3 pointsr/BasketballTips

It's really hard to pick a "best basketball", as it depends a lot on preference, whether you like softer / stickier balls or tougher ones, deep or shallow gooves, etc.

That being said... Being the uk and this time of the year, I assume you're gonna play indoors. The ball I use is this Wilson NCAA replica, and I very much enjoy it. That being said, it is a very sticky / grippy ball, so if you handle / dribble it a lot I can see it being a bit rough on the hands, since it doesn't "slide" in your palm like other basketballs.

On the other side of the spectrum, I also have a Spalding TF-250 for outdoors play, and the composite material is very tough and more on the slippery side. Also more durable.

Other than that, Molten balls I've played with also tend to be pretty nice, kinda middle-of-the-road-ish (I think it was the GM7 that I'm thinking of). Probably more durable than the Wilson too, since it's not quite as soft.

u/snipes81 · 3 pointsr/bjj

I tested out several and settled on the Cliff Keen fusion headgear https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JUS3T4Q They are a nice balance between good ear protection and a soft outer layer which is helpful for your teammates.

I also tried, and still have, the Cliff Keen Tornado, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KEFWUE/ . Excellent protection, but the hard outer shell sticks out far and is somewhat like a cheese grater on your partner. Wrestling great, bjj not so much.

I also bought and immediately returned the matman, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006SBMZ9Y/ . The attached chin strap was a deal breaker. Not only did it not fit my big melon the attached chin strap means if it breaks it's tough to replace.

I have no problems hearing instruction or my partner when wearing them, but they are a PIA to wear and this is coming from someone who wrestled for many years. I put them on after warm ups or sometimes not until sparring depending on what we are working on. They have kept my cauliflower ear from coming back over the past year.

Best of luck.

u/Stripedanteater · 2 pointsr/hockeyplayers

Not op, but I got the EZ Goal setup from Amazon. Excellent home tool, but be sure to buy the two inch pole. I've dented a place here and there, but they are extremely subtle dents. I'm very pleased with it.

u/hopelessfail · 3 pointsr/gifs

These things are pretty neat, but expensive ($100+ waat). I bought this sucker with the plans to modify a bucket top so my GSD can drop the ball in herself. If you think of going this route, other people have had success using it for their dogs, but recommended heavier balls like these. You know I like them heavy balls.

u/Posseon1stAve · 1 pointr/hockeyplayers

This was the exact stick I bought when I first started playing about 6 years ago, except mine was an 85 flex. I loved it, it's name was "Animal Mother". It eventually got worn out enough I replaced it.

First, the Draper blade is now the Henrique with Warrior (also used to be Kopitar). I got a Warrior AX1 on clearance, but it seems like many websites are getting really low on stock of these. I found it to perform very similar to the AK. I prefer the matte finish, but the grip on the AX1 works great. It's not what I would call tacky the way normal "grip" sticks are. I'm pretty sure any of the Warrior Dynasty sticks would be comparable to your AK.

u/intangiblemango · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

I have the Garmin Forerunner 310XT which is hella cheap for a tri watch (like $100-ish now, since it is obsolete, haha) but does not track laps. Even the 910XT is pretty cheap these days since it was replaced by the 920, but there are so many features on these darn things that I am struggling to figure out if it tracks simple laps in a pool (Amazon says it tracks distance and shit like stroke count, but I'm not sure if that's only for open water...? I would assume it does count laps but definitely confirm for yourself!).

If I were you, I would crosspost to /r/triathlon. You're bound to get a better response from someone who is familiar with what their specific watch is capable of.

I will note that, unless you are doing a ton of brick swim-to-bike workouts from the pool (as opposed to from an open water swim), it may simply be easier to buy a cheaper Garmin triathlon watch that doesn't track laps in a pool and then just a cheapo lap counter, which you can get for like $30 - https://www.amazon.com/SportCount-LapCounter-90040-Silver/dp/B0016J9NE8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495339883&sr=8-1&keywords=lap+counter+swim

Maybe a "nasty bag" for $5? This is a well known hemp BJJ brand but I don't think the bag itself is made from hemp. http://www.dsgear.com/collections/accessories

Is he on /r/bjj? Perhaps one of the patches that are on the sidebar?

Does he use headgear or have cauliflower ear problems? These are great. Everyone that uses headgear at my studio, uses this brand. Cliff Keen.

It's too early to tell because this was just a teaser and no one really has any idea about its capabilities or functionalities. We just have to wait. But superficially, I don't find the shape particularly attractive as a watch face. Smartwatches in general seem somewhat ironic when the trend has been for smartphones with larger screens and then the big new thing is screen tinier than almost anything we've ever seen.

Smartwatches in general seem kind of antiquated, like inventing a VHS HD instead of a DVD. I am not a fan of Google Glass but at least they were trying something really new. This is supposed to be the future and it seems like a rehash of something people hardly even wear anymore. What would be cool is something like this but with a digital touchscreen. Perhaps it could be removeable and you could put it in a hardcase to be used like a traditional smartphone. You know, something new and far out there. I know we don't really have the technology for this but this is something people would get excited about.

I like these McDavid Hex pads. I bought the smaller elbow and have been using them. They are better with the gi on. When I use them with no gi they do tend to slide around and down a bit. They are super slim but give a lot of protection and move with you pretty well. I got them because they didn't go full knee which sometimes I don't like. But I did just buy a pair of full knee ones from the second link to try for no gi. Both pretty reasonable price. I started wearing them when I was getting some Osgood-Schlatter pain where my patellar tendon connects to my tibia.

I like the look of those mountain bike pads though.

u/stevegcook · 3 pointsr/hockeyplayers

If the surface is really smooth, a normal stick should be fine. If it's like a tennis court (or rougher, of course), a wood/composite stick will splinter. In that case, it would be best to get something with a full ABS blade, like this.

Real pucks tend to stick to the surface if it's too rough. For stickhandling training, use this. For shooting, use this. For just goofing off with friends, use this.

I've heard helmet liners really help and are pretty inexpensive. You can wet them to keep you cool, and they help to keep sweat from running down your face.

If you have the indoor space and resources, get a Stinger X rebounder: https://www.allballpro.com/products/stingerx

And use Swax lax balls with it: https://www.swaxlax.com

The Stinger rebounder is $600 but is worth it if your committed due to how fast the ball comes back to you vs a normal rebounder. If the price is a little steep, then a normal rebounder like this one will work fine: https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Folding-Lacrosse-Throwback-Rebounder/dp/B007RIAB6G/ref=sr_1_4?crid=V92PA4D34AHS&dchild=1&keywords=lacrosse+rebounder&qid=1570982344&sprefix=Lacrosse+reboun%2Caps%2C157&sr=8-4

I played on this net yesterday and it was actually really great. I have the Spectrum Classic by Park and Sun. Then net at Costco is Not as good as the Spectrum classic. (but it's also $190 cheaper).

If you want a quality net, and aren't going to be shelling out over $230 any time soon, I highly recommend this net. I can't believe it's only $70 after the discount. (It comes with a shitty ball, and you might want to go to Home Depot and buy a few flat head nails so you can hammer the net into the ground. Other than that I was very impressed by everything in the bag. Note: the poles are steel instead of aluminum, thus it is heavier the the Spectrum Classic

u/AddictedToSpuds · 3 pointsr/hockeyplayers

Go to lots public skates and and stick and pucks.

For stickhandling at home, I like to use a smart hockey stickhandling ball, has some weight to it and will roll so it simulates a puck decently well. You can also get a green biscuit, and/or use a slick board you can get from home depot as a stickhandling pad with actual pucks, thrify white board I think it's called.

Here's a couple of stickhandling drills videos:

My area uses the Spalding KOB for the majority of the time, but definitely check with your area. If your community prefers the Wilson AVP ball, nobody will want to use the KOB even if you buy it.

I've only been doing bjj for a few months, but there are students who use headgear at our gym. No one bats an eye at it. It's about what makes you comfortable as you train. Anyone who would give you shit for it can go fuck themselves. It's YOUR journey and YOUR training. Not theirs.

That said, the best partner friendly headgear you can likely get is Cliff Keen E58: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009A5GRI/ref=s9_hps_bw_g200_i3

It's a really good brand of grappler's headgear. I have a pair. They will protect your ears. They aren't bulky. Best of all, they are soft and partner friendly. I've rolled with a guy who using this plastic hard tornado-some such headgear and I hate him for it. It's unpleasant when he digs his headgear into me.

Would a racing belt like this work? It has loops for the gels that keep them pretty snug. Haven't had any trouble with bouncing on mine.

u/zeshtorm · 4 pointsr/hockeyplayers

I’d look into getting an EZ goal. https://www.amazon.com/EZGoal-Hockey-Folding-Backstop-Targets/dp/B00DGX30Q4

Cheaper and supposedly good quality. If I had space to make a shooting area, that’s what I’d get.

I am loving these helmet liners cooling helmet . They control sweat but also keep my hair away from my face when I’m putting on the helmet. (I was always getting stray hair blocking my vision even using a sweatband). Plus they are cool compared to the bulky sweatband I was using.

u/smilingtruth · 2 pointsr/Hyperhidrosis

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's terrible. We're here for you. The most important thing to do is to be as kind as possible to yourself. Do you usually do something related to construction for work?

From what I understand, you have cranial and chest hyperhidrosis. If you’re looking for treatments, there was a discussion in the group with dermatologists a little while back. If you plan on doing construction again, maybe take a look at some of the items below to keep your body a little cooler.

Old school players use heavier Spalding kings of the beach

The Spalding KoB is better when it's windy because it's heavier but the Wilson is the current AVP ball.

There is a new version of the [Wilson AVP II] (https://www.amazon.com/Wilson-AVP-Official-Beach-Volleyball/dp/B01C5VR8SI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1473780846&sr=8-3&keywords=wilson+sand+volleyball) ball but more expensive.

*edit: added the AVP II ball link

Just stick them in the band of your shorts.

I also have this belt. There's not much to it, super minimalist, but it does the job.

For indoor, your two most popular ones are the Molten Flistatec that NCAA uses ($85 MSRP, but you can find it for ~$50), and the Mikasa MVA200 that FIVB uses. (also ~$50)

For beach, it's the [Wilson AVP(https://www.amazon.com/Wilson-WTH6007ID-AVP-Game-Volleyball/dp/B01C5VR8SI) or Spalding King of the Beach

I always have trouble with my mind wandering and can never reliably keep track of where I am in my set so I use a lap counter in the pool. Something similar to this:(http://www.amazon.com/SportCount-Inc-LapCounter-90040-Silver/dp/B0016J9NE8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452666635&sr=8-2&keywords=lap+counter)

I wear it on my pointer finger and push it right before ever flip turn. At first I had trouble rememebering to push it, but after a session or two it came completely naturally.

Thus far it's been the simplest, cheapest and easiest way i've found to keep track of laps.

I used them and they work great.

However I didn't want to have the ongoing expense, so I got one of those helmet liners that's thin and washable, it does the same thing and I like it. I wear contacts too so I know your pain.

This is the one I got, but they're all similar

Same. I got one of these from Amazon. $30 and worth every penny. I'd rather have a decent watch, but those are considerably more than $30.

If you don't want to risk cauliflower, wear ear guards. https://www.amazon.com/Cliff-Keen-E58-Headgear/dp/B0009A5GRI

Start your own Wiffle ball league.

It's cheap

It’ll say somewhere to only use the balls that it comes with but I use regulation wiffle balls all the time

You can buy that volleyball btw.

Old Georgie.

This reminds me of the movie. Or rather, an actor in it. :3

you should get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005LL1K/

I've used that one at the local lax store. It's absolutely amazing... but expensive.

I've used this one for a couple of years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007RIAB6G?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image

It has held up and does the job.

I've been looking for decent pads for a while but can't really decide what to get.

I found these but they're not hard pads.

and these ones are hard pads but look low profile. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016U4R6II/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A21875UNY3A7GG

Not really sure which one to get :p

I just ordered these CK's since a rolling mate also wears it and they seem to be working fine for him. I will try out your suggestion if the CK's don't work out.

I also had previously got these but they kept falling off during training and my ear infection worsened after those rolls.

Yeah, I just this week was trying to buy THIS hockey goal backstop, but "Usually ships within 4 to 5 months?" WTH? Is that time frame taking into account the culling the ore from the earth and smelting it into iron first or something? Anyway, I went with THIS one instead even though I just needed the backstop and it's double the price, I guess I'll try and sell the goal for $40 and recover some of the $$$.

I run on a 160m indoor track at times when the snow piles up here in the northeast and I got so sick of counting the laps that I sprung for a handheld counter device. It's such a simple thing, but it lets my mind wander and focus on the music or podcast or whatever I'm listening to, instead of obsessively repeating the lap count in my head (plus it makes it much more difficult to forget if I just finished lap 49 or have been on lap "49" for three loops in a row because I zoned out)
