I'm guessing this is gonna be your first board, so I have just the thing for you. I can personally vouch for this keyboard and think you'll really enjoy it, too.

The company that sells this board goes by too many names to keep track of, but the most common one is E-Element. They're the same people who sell the very popular and well-liked E-Element RGB keyboard found on Massdrop. This is pretty much a less flashy, tenkeyless version of that board. This board has Outemu Blue switches, which I believe are the same ones on the Redragon board you linked. This switch is a bit stiffer and louder than Cherry MX Blues, which is great if you're looking for a really satisfying and clicky typing experience. It also has an aluminum top plate, which will make it even louder, if you're into that. That brushed aluminum also makes it one of the most attractive budget boards IMO. It comes in black as well. It's easy to clean and the construction is solid, so it should last you a while. This was my first board, and it's still useful to me to this day. I actually own a second one of these that's still brand new and never used, and would be happy to sell it to you for cheap. It doesn't have a wrist rest, but most boards, especially budget ones, don't anyway. You can buy one separately if needed.

Also just to let you know for the future, /r/mk has a stickied thread every other day solely for asking everyone what keyboard/switch you should buy. There's also a keyboard buying guide in the wiki that includes a list of recommendations for specific budgets. In general, that wiki will answer most questions people tend to have about mechanical keyboards.

My one bit of advise, skip the keyboard case and get a nice small bluetooth keyboard, and one or more cases of your choice. I've had several generations of iPads and a few Keyboard cases in my time. They are more expensive and have consistently broken on me. Of all the separate keyboards I've had, not one has broken, I've taken them with me between devices, and they've lasted years. You can buy far more or less protective cases, as you wish.

  The Microsoft is my favorite, but no longer available. the iClever foldable is my newest and I'm getting to like it quite a bit.
  
  The only argument I can make for the 4G iPad is that it also includes GPS capabilities. If you want to use it for navigation, photography with geotagging, or any other location-dependent activity, you might want to consider it. It also grabs a slightly higher resale value.
  
  The Pro gets you the Pencil, faster speeds, more memory, slightly better screen, larger sizes. If you don't need any of these, then no reason to get the Pro. The iPad can do anything a Pro model can do, except for hardware differences (Pencil compatibility and True Tone screen).
  
  The iPad (any model) can handle note taking and basic office productivity very well. Apple's iWork apps are the "smoothest" and fit the iPad the best. But Microsoft Office is not far behind. Google's apps are shoe-horned to work with the iPad and the least "iPad like" IMHO. But since all are basically free to download and try I'd say give them all a chance.
  
  I would recommend getting the 128G. You can't upgrade later and some day you may wish you had the space, especially for movies and the like. Transferring to and from the cloud can be a chore.

On a side note, if it's allowed by his prison's rules, and if OP can afford it, a small bluetooth keyboard for his android phone, for example this one on Amazon, ~12$ (w/o batteries) and something like DroidEdit (free code editor, first google suggestion with a decent rating - there is surely way better solutions (I'm a Vimmer myself but won't recommend it to new users)) or equivalent might help OP getting started - as he seems interested in frontend Web development, he would be able:

• to code in his cell in relatively decent ways (almost real keyboard instead of virtual keyboard, so, better typing, more screen space usable because it will not be used by the virtual keyboard)
  
• syntaxic coloration of his code thanks to a correct editor, which will help differentiate keywords, variables, and such
  
• Test his code through the available browsers in Android (Chrome, Firefox)
  
  Of course it's clearly not the perfect developing workstation, but it should help OP getting things done with the tools he has at his disposal (minus the keyboard, which I hope he would be able to afford).
  
  Wishing OP the best: having the will to learn, especially in an environment like a prison, is the key to your future. Sorry for any mistakes in this post as english is not my main language.

You can certainly use Bluetooth keyboard/mice combos (something like this) with the M300, but the ideal approach is to use existing applications which are tailored to the user interface models of Smart Glass devices which don't rely upon touch-based input.

I did also order a mini HDMI to full size HDMI cable from Gearbest for like, $2, but it's pretty shit. I'd suggest getting one though.

Now, this was all calculated. I travel a lot, either for work or for leisure, and this device was just perfect for it.

I wanted to get a case that can hold everything, but take up a small footprint. The case is just wide enough to hold the keyboard, the middle pouch can hold the Splitter, the Mouse and either the GPD in their if you want, or with the keyboard.

It all fits very well, and the only thing I haven't tried is the hub, but I'm sure that'll work.

I plan to get a folding headset for the go as well, and have a usb splitter for Mic and Headset, so I can hopefully get some CSGO action using the hotel tv when I'm away!

That said, the mouse I got can go from incredibly responsive to having just a small delay. It's fine for using for the web and what not, but I'd probably suggest a different mouse, or just a wired one if using the hub. (for portable and not frequent use, the reviews for this one are very good!)

You have a few options, assuming you're using an actual computer and not a raspberry Pi.

• Bluetooth Candy Board style remote. The Rii is on a deep discount right now. If you're on a raspberry pi, opt for a 2.5ghz one. I haven't been able to get bluetooth to work with my pi.
  
  
• MCE IR receiver / remote. You can sometimes find them at Value Village, but ebay or amazon is good enough. These work really well.
  
  The candy board style remote is nice because it's got a trackpad and keyboard. If you have a cat, they'll enjoy the laser pointer. The MCE remote is nice because it's a traditional feel -- on my system, I have both hooked up.

It took a few minutes to get used to, but I can touch type on it with no problem. The bigger keyboard is probably better, but if the smaller iPad is a better fit for how you will use it, the smaller keyboard should be OK.

There's a bunch of keyboards that seem to be compatible, OP. Here's one under $14 that has 4.2 stars and seems to be pretty solid, albeit no-frills. There are a lot of "nicer" ones that have the keyboard act as a stand, which is probably more along the lines of what you're looking for. This model looks pretty great and is only $23, and would be perfect for your use case.

As far as printers go, you'll want to look for AirPrint compatible printers like /u/wjtech said. A lot of them will be marketed as "mobile printing" capable, so look through this list and see if there's anything that fits what you're looking for.

The case had a small magnet on the little arm that moves back and forth... I honestly don't see why anyone would use such a thing unless theyre just reading...but I digress. The little magnet was making my device shut off any time that little arm wrapped around to the back of the device, so I cut it off. With the left-over piece, I made a stand for the back using a small piece of plastic from another project. The case is good because it has a little extra depth and lets the Fintie keyboard fit just right. I used a rubber/synthetic tie to secure the keyboard in place, although I will say it does stay put pretty well on its own. The keyboard has a metal plate on the back side, and the part of the case that it sits on has a long magnet! That was a happy surprise. For anyone thinking about doing this, the total cost is about $40

Word and Pages are fantastic on the device. I’ve been using PowerPoint recently to make decks and it’s worked rather well. Note Office doesn’t have every feature but it has just enough to get it done.

Do not underestimate the convenience of having two windows open at the same time. Yes, you can switch between Safari and Pages/Word/whatever with a swipe, but it gets old quick.

Also: you're going to want a real keyboard to type an essay. You do not want to do it with the onscreen keyboard. Period. If you're not doing a lot of typing all over the place (library, notes in class, etc), then I guess that means you don't have to get a tiny keyboard, which is good news for typing comfort.

I'd suggest either the Universal Mobile Keyboard from Microsoft (no joke) or the K480 by Logitech. Both of them are nice to type on while still small enough to fit in most bags.

As far as accessories go, I definitely recommend the Apple Pencil. I personally didn't go with the smart keyboard - instead, I opted for a foldable bluetooth keyboard. Others swear by the Apple Keyboard, but I just couldn't afford it.

I've heard amazing things about the Zugu Muse Case, but I personally got the Ztotop Case.

I wound up going with the 11" iPad Pro because it felt better? I recommend going to an Apple Store/Best Buy/Costco/etc., and just handling both devices IRL. I thought I wanted the 12.9", but after holding it for a while, it felt too big.

Went on an extended trip recently and decided to get a portable keyboard to go along with my cell phone. I looked at the foldable Bluetooth keyboards but in the end, I opted for a full-sized key, non-foldable keyboard which i think worked out better than the ones which are smaller keys


I researched a bunch and while i originally wanted the foldable microsoft one which is very slim, i went for this one (arteck) based on price and it served me very well. For 10 months, i kept it in my backpack packed against my tablet and it lasted me well. Only issue i had was that the rubber fixings to keep it set on the table came off towards the end. The feeling of typing on it, the size (very slim), and stiffness of it all worked very well for me. Since it's not a foldable one, i was able to just rest it on my knees and type away as well

The following method will allow you to make a screenshot, even if you have a modal window on the screen. Modal windows (typically you have to press OK, Cancel or X to close them) will prevent any other actions taking place, including making screenshots from second screen controls or using volume button combinations.

1. Attach a wired (with USB-C OTG or USB-C hub) keyboard or connect a bluetooth keyboard, e.g. they have these tiny pocketable ones
   
   
2. Press PrtScr on the attached/connected keyboard (a screen capture animation will show and screenshot will be stored into the gallery).

It's a cheap board with Outemu blue switches. They're a little louder than cherry but they're certainly not awful either.

It's a cheap board so it's not going to be as good as more expensive ones....... But it's probably still better than a cheap rubber dome if it's all you can afford.

Yup thats exactly it, as for selection, cursor already exists in android if you pair it with a mouse - I use a Rii Mini Bluetooth Keyboard It's a tonne of fun.

I also mirror the touch support so you can still tap icons on either side of the SBS (of course when it's incase this is useless)

I love that it’s backlit, and that it’s not part of a case. Use it when I need it, leave it in my bag when I don’t. The price it more than acceptable, and it allows me to use whatever case I choose on my iPad.

Do you really rely on the Google drives and stuff? Will also try to invest on that.

Had the Fintie iPad Pro 10.5 Case with Built-in Apple Pencil Holder and was great and cheap only $15 and held the pencil.

But then wanted able to stand portrait for magazines,comics and typing.

So just got Fintie iPad Pro 10.5 Case with Built-in Apple Pencil Holder - 360 Degree and again a bit more bulky but also cheap $16 and holds the pencil.

And picked up the Full Size Bluetooth Keyboard Foldable Portable, Joyzy for $26 compact light when I need it.

Yes! Just bought this folding keyboard and it's awesome. I won't carry it every day but will take it with me when I travel. Much more comfortable for me than typing on the phone, and also without the virtual keyboard, whatever app I'm using can occupy 100℅ of the screen space.

I'm pretty sure any bluetooth keyboard will work with a PS4, but I have this one from Arteck and it works great. Lightweight, slim, and holds a charge for weeks.

Best keyboard I have used so far is the Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard. I have both the older model that has the plastic cover/stand on the keys and the folding model. For the price they are fantastic.

I use this and am very satisfied. It’s nice and compact when not in use since it folds and even has a trackpad w/ buttons. No complaints! Bluetooth works pretty well on it although might take a few seconds to connect when turning it on.

in regards to your second link... i would not recommend...it has piss poor reception and the mousepad is not i would call quality, it has tracking issues for sure.

Honestly a Apple Trackpad might not be a bad idea. Just turn sensitivity up so he doesn't have to move his hand very much.

It's Bluetooth 3.0 but I have yet to notice any lag. It has multiple backlight colors with a button to quickly turn backlighting on or off. It also seems to hold a charge very well as it turns itself off after a few seconds of inactivity. Most function keys work except for mail and web unfortunately.

An also nice and unexpected "feature"....it sticks magnetically to my Khomo case. Not enough to stick upside-down but enough to stay in place carrying it around when walking.

$60 for a 10 inch tablet is nearly impossible, if you're looking for a new one. Your best bet is to look for the RCA tablets around Black Friday or even the AOSON 10.1" Tablet

Does it absolutely HAVE to be a trackball? If a D-pad+software could be better, I could maybe build it out of a USB NES controller. I've already made one just for the sake of doing it, so it would be a piece of cake to make another shell to fit his hand. I know that's wired, but IIRC you can get adapters that can let you use USB stuff remotely (USB->adapter->goes through air->other adapter->USB port on computer).

No, it is not worth it if you are always going to be in a place to set it on a table and use a separate keyboard and mouse. It is really meant for you to deploy quickly without carrying a bunch of other stuff, or uses it on your lap, while provide very decent keyboard experience as the keyboard itself has great traveling for the size.

keep in mind Moko are not nearly as good as surface cover, but judging from what you said it doesn't sound like you type much. If it being wireless is important to you and you always want a mouse, this might be a decent alternative worth considering.

I've tried USB RF & bluetooth versions of the Rii mini keyboards but they're a bit laborious to work on for any length of time. Nice for travel, or infrequent typing though.

Responsiveness is at least as good as the original. I don't think it handled done gestures as well, but don't quote me on that--i use a mouse almost 100% of the time. Amazon link if you're curious

It probably won’t be but why risk it? You can purchase one on eBay. It’ll cost you a lot less but you’ll have a cover that actually fits your device.

It's magnetic so it connects to the Surface Pro properly, but doesn't actually use the connection on the bottom of the Surface. Of course, since it's a separate Bluetooth device, it also has it's own battery you need to charge as well.

It's great for what I use it for, mainly sending fairly short emails and editing papers. If I was going to be typing out anything over a page or so I would opt for a bit more expensive one. It isn't quite big enough to type as well as I usually do, but for $12 I won't complain too much. I've used it 4-5 hours a week for a year and have no had to change the batteries yet.

I recommend the Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard.

A large number of them have been DOA as of late, though, so you might need to go through a few returns to get one that works. Once you have one, though, you won't regret it. I haven't used it long enough to confirm the 6-month battery life claim, but I haven't charged it once since I got it in February.

Not really, I understand if you type essays almost everyday - but if you do it once in a blue moon, then there are many bluetooth keyboards the size of an iPad. And if you don't like that, then there are also bluetooth silicon keyboards, so you could just roll it up and stuff it in your backpack.

Yes. There are tons of options. None are going to make you happy. The core issue is these requirements:

Looks like it has no travel for the keys. I just ordered a Moko universal foldable keyboard but haven't tried it yet. I tried out a Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard before but the odd key spacing really tripped me off.

I didn't buy the keyboard purely for economical reasons. I have heard some complaints that it scratches the screen easily so get a screen protector if you do. My only problem with it is no backlit keys. I really need that. Otherwise, I will probably get it when the price drops eventually. Or just get the next Nexus/Pixel tablet when it comes out this fall. I've wondered this as well for when you're in bed laying sideways and want to prop your laptop up on a pillow. My Microsoft Lumia has a handy accelerometer disable feature so it doesn't keep switching back and forth between vertical/horizontal and will just stay put.
