Taking a first glance at it, it looks pretty solid. Runs the newest android OS 9.0, has plenty of RAM if you want to do gaming on it. Like you wanted, there are also versions with enough storage that you can download apps without having to worry about deleting others. I don't know if you saw this post on amazon, but that looks like a good deal. A couple others I could reccomend to you are the Huawei Honor 8X, which looks like it should suit your needs. If you are willing to stretch further from your budget for a phone that may last longer for about $250 at the time of posting this, I would reccomend to you the Nokia 7.1. A couple reasons you might want to go for this is that it suits your needs, but it is a more well known and trusted company. I used to have one of these and it was a great phone, although my model was older and the speakers broke once after a couple years. Nevertheless, Nokia has great customer service (which is very important), and they fixed the phone right away. They had me send it to them and even paid for my shipping label and got it back to me within the week. If you want the better customer service and are willing to pay a bit more, then go for the Nokia. If not, the Honor 8X, Galaxy A50, and the P Smart are all great choices. One thing to note is that all three of those are quite similar (in fact, by just looking at the front, you can't even tell which is which!) Under the hood, things are similar. So if you find any of those 3 on a deal, I would just recommend to go for the cheaper one. But in my opinion, if you can afford it, go for the Nokia.

Sorry. I didn't mean to sound like an asshole if I did. I was surprised you'd be attempting rooting on your first day like that. I dunno, at $130 I feel like you have better options than a coming up on 2 year old Moto G4. The sixth gen is about to be announced. I mean for $138 you can get a ZTE Blade V8 Pro which has a pretty light skin on Android, has a Snapdragon 625 processor and an amazing Screen On Time. The Honor 7x isn't going to be a light skin on Android EMUI is pretty heavy I've heard. I haven't owned a Huawei since my Ascend Mate 2. However the Honor 7x is going to be a sonically like significantly better phone. Maybe you'll want to try the 64 GB Huawei Mate SE for $229, that's the 64 GB variant of the Honor 7xn in the USA.

Aaaaand nope. You're looking at the 7 & p30 non pro.

The 7T doesn't seem to be available yet on amazon.ca but the 7 is still a really fine device, it only lacks the overclocked Snapdragon 855+ (nothing worth changing your phone for), the 90hz display and has a slightly less good camera than the 7T. The price is indeed definitely very good for this device and I highly recommend OnePlus to you. I've got a OnePlus 6 classic and it's still in my all time top 4 devices ( along with blackberry bold 9700, Samsung galaxy S2 and Samsung galaxy S6)

The P30 pro is, well, far more expensive (and far more expensive in Canada than in Europe, that's impressive). The camera, display and battery are really better but with twice the price of the classic P30, I would highly recommend you to go to OnePlus or a Samsung S10 plus.

>It's easy to find a replacement. There are four standard sizes.

So if you're looking for the best available model, and only one size fits, you're instantly ruling out 3/4 of microwaves on the market for something that has almost no bearing on performance or other features.

Hmmmm.

>Never actually had to look for one or has lied about looking for one because they assumed it was hard, so they don't know it's trivial.

Or they care about the appliances they get and know that limiting yourself to 1/4 of available built-in appliances is like saying you can only buy a car with, say, a given length that's within 4 inches of an arbitrary set vehicle length. But, odds are that the best vehicles aren't going to fit that arbitrary specification. And that could be a real problem that could cost you (tens of) thousands of dollars.

You can say that it's possible to find a good vehicle that meets those specifications, but if you actually care about the quality / performance / specifications of the appliance or vehicle you're getting, you should still acknowledge that limiting working models to <25% of what's on the market is...what it is. Sure, you can find a POS model that fits. Enjoy buying a new microwave every 2 years.

Which brings us to your last point:

>Has a really, really old appliance (like 50-60+ years old) that was before these standards existed.

If you buy decent quality appliances, they last for longer than 5-10 years, and it will have been discontinued. Any replacement you find will have to be secondhand or it's remodel time.

>That's like saying "It's so hard to find the right sized case for my iPhone 8." just because cases for the iPhone 6 and 7 exist.

It's more like saying "I wish I hadn't bought these women's jeans because no modern smartphone will fit into the pocket."

You can always go to a tailor to get real pockets installed, but you could've avoided the problem in the first place by buying pants with real pockets that could be used to hold actual objects. And while it's true that some tiny smartphones exist, limiting yourself to the handful of ~limited-capability models that fit is...limiting. You'll probably be able to find something that kind of works. No one's disagreeing with that. But not all [appliances] are created equal, and you're essentially pushing the idea that size is the most important feature of a [microwave, fridge, whatever], when it affects performance and reliability about as much as the color does.

u/rumourmaker18 · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

At $200 you're not going to get a particularly good camera - that said, it'll still probably be better than your 5 year old phone haha.

My first recommendation is the ZTE Blade V8 Pro:

  • $140
  • 5.5" screen
  • Dual-lens camera that takes decent pictures
  • Negative: Still on Android 6.0, two versions behind; ZTE has also been really slow about security updates, falling 2-3 months behind

Another option is the Moto G5 Plus:

  • $185 at Amazon for the Prime Exclusive version
  • 5.2" screen
  • Decent camera
  • Great build quality, likely to last a long time
  • Fairly timely updates

If you're willing to spend the full $200, though, I recommend the Honor 7X:

  • Gigantic 5.9" screen, great for watching videos
  • Reviews calling it best phone under $200
  • Good build
  • Better camera than almost anything else at this price point (dual lens as well)

    There you go!
u/Hitokage_Tamashi · 1 pointr/PickAnAndroidForMe
  • Asus Zenfone 2 | Amazon listing | Specs |

  • Huawei Honor 5X | Amazon listing | Specs

The Honor 5X is the weakest option (I'm still counting the Nexus in the list, but since you're already looking at it, it would be redundant to link it), but it's also the cheapest, and it has the best build quality. The largest con is (subjectively) the software skin.

I believe the Zenfone 2 is more powerful than the Nexus 5X (x86 (the Zenfone uses an Intel processor) vs ARM processor architectures is a frustrating comparison for me to try and do, but the Snapdragon 808 (used in the Nexus) is a bit...lackluster), and it has a larger screen/a lot more storage/RAM, but it doesn't have the largest amount of developer support, and the software is (again subjectively) relatively bad.

Unless you're looking to save money, I'd say skip the Honor 5X, it was listed mostly for price. If you want a larger screen and better performance on paper (as well as an SD card slot), get the Zenfone 2. If you want stock Android, fast updates, and solid root/ROM/developer support, get the Nexus 5X.
u/RubberReptile · 2 pointsr/vancouver

It depends how much you want to spend. If your mom will literally only be using the phone in emergencies and expects to call less than 20 minutes, send less than 50 messages per month, and use no data 7-11 is great because of the yearly expiry on the vouchers. However once you get into monthly no-contact it is often not the most affordable plan, especially surrounding data. The 100 min talk and unlimited text for $20 is OK but better value can be had on promo plans from Koodo, Virgin, Costco, etc. For smartphones, an unlocked phone from Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, because the ones coming from 7-11 are generally cheaper there, as well you'll get something better for the price. I'd recommend this phone for a first time smartphone because of its large battery and price point. This one if you want something a little cheaper or just buy used. Make sure you don't buy a smartphone with less than 1GB ram otherwise it'll bog down the moment she tries to do anything other than basic phone stuff. If you're just looking for a basic phone with no smartphone features wait until 7-11 has the free phone with $100 airtime deal. They will only make calls and send texts. Otherwise buying unlocked will always be cheaper than buying from a provider in this case.

u/SeaNap · 1 pointr/audiobooks

I know you said not phone based, but I wanted an audiobook player with all the bells and whistles for jogging, and to also have a travel phone so I dont lose or damage my nice one so I got a Jelly Phone for $120. Thing is literally 1/4 of the size of my regular phone, has android so I can load Booksonic, Listen Audiobook Player, Audible, etc., dual sim's but works on wifi without.

Not sure about sleep-drunk friendly, I find it easy to use and the screen is small so it's not that bright. Maybe the ipod nano would be a good fit if you like using itunes.

u/Josepepowner · 2 pointsr/PokemonGoSpoofing

Personally I would strongly recommend a pixel first gen. Firstly its not too expensive. Also to unlock the bootloader is relatively easy. Even if you have the verizon version. With this step I recommend just formatting to factory following the steps and if it doesn't work repeat until it does. Twrp is an easy install. Just need ADBand TWRP. And Magiskis simple and straight forward. Smali with AppNinja GPS joy is going to be how you spoof. Everything before this point is to get your device ready. BTW I don't work for any of these guys its just how I do it and have had no issues.

Why I recommend pixel? Because most of this has been fleshed out really well. The stock rom works really fucking well. The device is old enough to be cheap and dissected over heavily enough that documentation is everywhere, but also packs quite a punch. The other reason I recommend pixel is because to return to stock and recover from a brick is simple and straight forward. And because google gives you all the tools to do it. Lastly pixel is planned to be updated to the newest Android OS. Which means once all the hacks get updated you can move forward with hopefully a better and smoother OS.

But as tasty banana peppers has said. All those company devices work I just feel pixel is the easiest to work with. This is coming from a guy who use to do it on an S4 and didn't enjoy the experience at all.

u/whitacr · 1 pointr/grandorder

I'm afraid I'm not super in tune with the lower budget phones, but consider the Pixel 3a for nice Google support. Black Friday is coming up in a month and it will almost definitely go on sale during that time. Consider phones from international brands like Xiaomi (example), Honor, Huawei as well since they're very popular for their affordably-priced smartphones. Samsung seems to have released the A50 this year, which is quite cheap (~$220).

Regardless of which phone you pick wait until Black Friday. Until then if you've got a decent laptop you can run FGO on Nox if your phone is struggling that much (make sure you enable virtualization).

u/LyxiaSparrow · 2 pointsr/oneplus

I'm thinking of getting the OnePlus 3/3T and I have some questions:

  1. What is the difference between International and what seems to be the US version? I have T-Mobile and I just wanna be sure that I can use the International version(which is currently available) to its full extent as opposed to the other one.

  2. I doubt many have owned both the 3 and the 3T, but are the differences worth it? It's a $50 difference.

  3. I'm also looking at getting an Honor 8 instead, but from what I'm reading, the OP3 has a much higher benchmark at a similar price. I've also read that Honor 8 has a better camera. And I personally like the look more, but that's not too important.

Any other suggestions or comments, please post. I need a phone by next week and looked into the OnePlus 5 a bit, depending on the cost and the actual delivery date, I think I'll likely still go for a 3/3T.

The article supposes that Google's canonical page system is being used to inform this behavior. It looks to establish a single, canonical URL for a given page. It says that the canonical page will be determined algorithmically if the page owner does not define the canonical URL.

I wonder if auto-generated canonical pages will trim actual useful content from URLs. For example, timestamps (like "?t=65") on YouTube URLs:

https://youtu.be/qbMTukAJskQ?t=65

Also, automatic subtitle navigation on Wikipedia links (like "#Capabilities")

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_Heavy#Capabilities

I just hope that this new feature will not cause regression in such cases. I do like the idea of Google automatically trimming the chaff from Amazon URLs. I usually do so manually, anyways. For example, an Amazon URL like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Unlocked-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B072N3GKSM/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1519145581&sr=1-1&keywords=pixel

really only needs to be like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N3GKSM

My understanding of referral strings in URLs is that it helps the retailer track page links, I wonder if Google will get rid of referral info in URLs as well?

Here is a good gaming phone that I feel isn't too expensive considering most popular phones are $800+

Here is a good mid-range gaming phone that I actually just bought. Runs smooth as butter, excellent battery life, beautifully crisp and large screen for only $220. A Pro version will be available soon with 6gb memory and a better processor

If you take pictures for a living or a serious hobby, or you want to shoot semi-professional videos with your phone, I recommend the iPhone 11.

But, if you want a decent Android phone, with exceptional battery life to do mostly phone stuff and the thought of spending over $1,000 for a phone doesn't appeal to you, you should check out the unlocked, $199 marvel that is the Moto G7 Power.

It's not a flagship phone. It's a mid-range phone that works great for the Android apps that most people use, web surfing and, of course, it's a really good little phone.

I originally bought it for my sister because she keeps breaking the screens on her flagship phones and we were just tired of buying her expensive new phones. But I hadn't updated from my Note 5 and decided to give it a try first.

I was charging my Note 5 every 3 to 4 hours. I charge the Moto G7 Power once every 2 days. I cannot tell you how liberating it is to not have to work about charging your phone.

Check out the specs for yourself at https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-g-power-gen-7

It has a 6.2" screen and can be used on all major carriers in the U.S. (like Verizon and AT&T).

It's not for everyone. But if you're in the market for a great Android 9 phone with phenomenal battery life, that's cheap enough that you don't worry about breaking it or that would be a great phone for your kids, I definitely recommend the Moto G7 Power.

On the Motorola site it says $249 but I got mine on Amazon (sold by Motorola via Amazon) for $199 at Moto G7 Power - Unlocked - 32 GB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N9KQDVG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share (No...I don't get a commission. I'm just doing this because I really like this phone.)

(OtterBox makes a lightweight case for it as well - OtterBox Commuter LITE Series Case for Moto G7 Power - Retail Packaging - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QWQKPQK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5xsUDbABPMRKX )

Is the LG G6+ still worth $470? I don't know if there are more than one version of this, but the one I am looking at is 128 GB, 4 gigs of ram, Snapdragon 821 2.5 ghz+1.6 ghz quadcore (I am not sure what that means with two numbers listed like that).

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0791RW7CD

I currently have a Moto G5+, like this one, but I have the 64 GB version ($250 unlocked phone): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0785NN142/

I'm confused on the bits about the processor, lol. The MG5+ has the snapdragon 625, 2.0 ghz octocore and 650 mhz adreno 506 gpu.

Is it enough of an improvement? Is it an improvement at all?

u/Kafke · 1 pointr/Android

So I might be finally getting my first smartphone (yeah, I know), through the lifeline program with Tag Mobile. From the looks of it, they'll likely send me a Blu Dash Jr D141w which is obviously garbage. But hey, free. Instead, I'd like to buy a cheap (less than or around $100 or so) unlocked phone to pop the sim into instead.

I've been considering a higher-end Blu phone, like the Energy X 2 or the Studio Selfie 2. Am I missing something completely obvious, given my lack of experience with smart phones in general?

My main concerns are battery life, having the thing not lag/be slow, and being able to stay updated for security updates and to not get left behind on the OS updates (my old ipod touch is on a super old version and can't download apps anymore, I'd like to avoid something like that).

Thoughts?

u/ilubandroid · 1 pointr/EmulationOnAndroid

A lot of midranger with Snapdragon 625 can pretty much handle everything from N64/PS1/Dreamcast/DS. PSP is dependent on the game whether it runs full speed or not. Any of these phones should play everything except Gamecube emulation.

u/Kangolcraft · 2 pointsr/androidroot

Amazon has some great, relatively cheap, unlocked, and rootable phones.

Two notable ones:

u/futurebb · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

If your looking at the Nokia 7.1 here is the where you can buy it with a US warranty. There may be other options that could suit you well like the Sony xperia xa2 ultra for $339 while it may have a weaker processor SD636 on the 7.1 vs SD630 on the xa2 ultra, it does have a bigger battery and a huge screen, if you want to save the money the moto x4, nokia 6.1, and sony xperia xa2 (not xa2 ultra) are good phones for less than $300.

If you don't mind buying without a warranty the xiaomi mi mix 2 should support tmobile and at&t without an issue, while it doesn't come with a headphone jack it does have a more powerful processor.

Also the oneplus 6 (not 6T) is currently $430 on their website

u/JackSpoons · 3 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

If you don't need cutting edge, Moto G7 or G7 Power are pretty cheap right now. I would definitely recommend those over LG Stylo 4. Pixel 2 XL used is definitely in your price range, used Pixel 3 XL is perhaps just outside your range for something in good condition.

Phone size comparison.

u/ITman2000 · 1 pointr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Dpends on what you are really looking for in a phone, if you like all round performance at a mid range prce then you can go for the [oneplus 3t] (https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-A3000-Factory-Unlocked-Phone/dp/B01MXR13TZ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1496679222&sr=1-3&keywords=oneplus+3t&linkCode=ll1&tag=dealz050-20&linkId=04ac474aed4950e2536c87710311cb8e). The 3t is the best all round phone at that price and even matches up with other flagship phones. The only thing with the 3t compare to other flagship phones such as samsung galaxy s7 edge, s8+, google pixel and xl is it's camera quality. But the s8+ would be the best in terms of camera quality and all round features.

u/sxuthsi · 0 pointsr/Android

It kinda goes back and forth because of the release schedule.

But I would suggest three phones that still have Google connectivity (sadly can't suggest you the Mate 30 series knowing that GMS suite never works completely even if you user install it)

Nobody cares about the brand of your personal assets, Huawei or not. Huawei is not "banned" as they say. It is still a free country you can buy anything Huawei you want, the only issue is compatibility.

They still sell international version Huawei phones on Amazon to US buyers. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PX3ZRJ6

China's 5G phones normally do not work in the US because they use different technology. But 5G network in the US is virtually non-existence so it is a non-issue for at least two years. For 4G phones, you need to care about LTE bands, each country is different because the auction process was different.

u/itsamamaluigi · 1 pointr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Nah man the phones you listed are too old. They won't run modern apps.

There is a phone called the Moto G Play on Amazon. The cheaper version is only $50. It is only compatible with Verizon prepaid but if you're not using it for phone/data service, only wifi as a personal media player, it's totally fine. It has a micro SD card slot so you can add as much stuff as you want, it runs a recent version of Android (Marshmallow; not quite the newest but it's new enough), and it has 2 GB of RAM so it won't be frustratingly slow to use.

EDIT: That model appears to be sold out for the next few weeks. If you can't wait for it, the BLU R1 HD should be fine. It's only $50-$60 if you are willing to have Amazon ads on the lock screen. I would strongly recommend spending the extra $10 to get double the RAM though - having not enough RAM will seriously impact day to day usability. Back when I had a phone with 1 GB of RAM, my music would frequently stop playing because I ran out all the time. 2 GB is the bare minimum for basic functionality in Android.

some benchmarks:

Samsung Galaxy A30

Basemark OS ii: 1772

Basemark X: 11270

Motorola Moto G6 Plus

Basemark OS ii: 1626

Basemark X: 14357

Basemark OS ii is more important for general system performance, Basemark X is more indicative of graphic/gaming performance.

So you get better gaming performance out of the G6 than the Galaxy.

If you want a big boost to performance for similar money to the A30 then I would get

Huawei Honor 8X

Basemark OS ii: 2493

Basemark X: 20416

it uses a Kirin 710 and you can get it for $172 on Amazon

or perhaps

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Basemark OS ii: 2716

Basemark X: 21201

with a Snapdragon 660 for $180 on Amazon

I just got mine last Friday (6/16). Couldn't be any happier. The phone is amazing. It's fast, no lag, good battery, great camera. As opposed to other Android models I've used in the past (LG G5, Nexus 6P, OnePlus 3T, etc) this one works out of the box. Literally no glitches. Getting LTE on AT&T.

P.S. Amazon has a great sale. I paid $319.99 for the 64 GB version: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MEF0R7P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

First off, looks like I confused you a bit with the pricing. The prices I mentioned were from the German market and included 20% tax. I used them both because I don't know a good US price search site and because I wasn't sure pricing is comparable since you guys seem to still be more carrier bound than we in Europe.

Anyway, converted in US Dollar w/o sales tax the German price for the S5 would be around 295 Dollar and the S5 Neo 240 Dollar. Amazon.com shows both Verizon and ATT compatible unlocked s5 for around 300 Dollar but the Neo seems to be missing on that market.

Anyway, I would actually prefer the S5 Neo over most of those phones simply because I like OLED screens as well as swappable batteries and its still cheaper. It also has features missing in all but the HTC phones like APT-X that I need.

That being said, neither the HTC phones or OnePlus Two have praticullary good screens:

> With poor greyscale accuracy, irregular gamma, and inaccurate rendition of primary and secondary colors, there's no hope for accurate color mixtures on the OnePlus 2's display. There's really not much more to be said. We're not talking about the kind of inaccuracy that you'd get from an oversaturated panel, but instead just general inaccuracy where no color is quite how it should be. It seems like OnePlus just focused on making sure the panel matched the sRGB gamut and put no effort into any further calibration.

> The display quality of the OnePlus 2 is not impressive at all. For a $400 phone this is simply unacceptable, and it's such an enormous regression from the OnePlus One

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9828/the-oneplus-2-review/5

The M8 is also not faster than the S5 but for 150 Dollar I agree its a steal and the reasonable choice. The Nexus 5P is also great value even though I would hate being stuck with 32GB on a phone.

The even better choice than all of those including the Samsung would probably be the LG G4 - 32 GB at 300 US Dollar.

I have an Unlocked Zenfone 2 and it works just fine. It has to be an unlocked phone and can not be a AT&T or an other "branded" phone. Hotspot does NOT work with my AT&T branded Note 4 though. You are correct when Straight Talk will tell you they do not officially support hotspot but many unlocked phones will work just fine with the hotspot function. Just make sure your APN settings are correct and you're good to go. I did have to tweak mine slightly but this info can all be found with a quick google search.

Why do you hate Straight Talk? I don't deal with their customer service ever unless I need a new SIM card. It's simple for me since I don't have to deal with a carrier trying to charge me $70+ for literally the same exact service I get. Now that you can buy a phone like this for less than $300 it's really not even worth paying $20 a month for insurance and a $100-$150 deductible to get a refurbished replacement. I have heard dealing with any issues with their customer service is pretty terrible so I guess I have been lucky. I get a SIM card and I'm set.

u/renatofontes · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

The Mate SE would be a good choice. Some people have had some lag with this phone and the 7x (me included) but that was on Nougat and on the Oreo beta the lag is 100% gone, hopefully they release the final update soon. Battery life is also definitely good, I sometimes forget to charge it overnight with no problems (though I work from home and have wifi always on which reduces battery usage).

Besides this, there's also the Xperia XA2 which comes with Oreo already and seems to be a really nice phone for the price. Probably faster than the Mate SE, though it only has 3gb of ram.

If you don't mind going a little over your budget, the Xperia XZ1 is also a good phone, and with last year flagship's cpu. The only problem is that it lacks fingerprint sensor in the US (boo!).

Other good budget options could also be available soon if you don't mind waiting, like the Moto G6 line and the Zenfone 5.

u/raptir1 · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

If it needs to be off Amazon, the Moto G5 Plus is probably your best bet. It's an excellent phone for the money and you can get the 64GB model for $209 right now. Note that you need to be a prime member to buy it at that price.

Definitely consider a Moto g7 power. Unlocked for use on any carrier going for $179 right now on Amazon.

Huge 5000mah battery. Charge overnight, use it all day doing gigs, and maybe use 50%.

Ample performance, big screen, camera works fine for what you want.

You could grab a OnePlus 3 for $375, or a ZTE Axon 7 for $380. If you're willing to extend that budget by $28, you could get the OnePlus 3T, which definitely has enough improvements to justify the extra money. If you happen to have Amazon Prime and you're willing to deal with some ads on your lock screen, you could get an LG G6 for $400.

Those are all coming from official retailers, of course. If you're willing to go eBay, you could probably find most of the top phones from last year new-in-box for less than $400. I personally just bought a brand new LG V20 a couple weeks ago for $370.

But if you really want a phone that came out this year, these are all of your options between $275 and $400 and most of them either aren't very good or aren't available in the US. (Assuming you're from the US...if you're not, then you should probably stipulate which country.)

I've personally been impressed with the Honor 8 http://www.hihonor.com/global/products/mobile-phones/honor8/index.html

NA FGO Player here - looking to move to a new phone since my Nexus 6P's battery is turning to be a joke.

Soooo the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-IMX386-Camera-Unlocked-Smartphone/dp/B079816Y5T) caught my eye but have seen threads here expressing issues with Chinese smartphones and FGO in general. This phone appears to be running MIUI 9 on top of Android N. My question is there anyone can confirm that NA FGO will work with it or just with MIUI 9 in general?

If not, I'll have to look for something else more mainstream because FGO compatibility is of utmost importance!

u/skygz · 2 pointsr/NoContract

Oof didnt know those existed. Looks like the XT1955 (Optimo Maxx) is the G7 Power. You can pick up the regular model from Amazon but I don't know about Straight Talk's rebranded version. I really wouldn't think that Moto would remove radio support just to sell to Straight Talk but I guess you never know.

u/ckelley87 · 7 pointsr/Austin

Alternatively, you can buy a number of Android phones for like $50, like this one: BLU Advance 5.0 - Unlocked Dual Sim Smartphone - US GSM - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018IZ0VLQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6.QnxbVQ1RVWJ

If your regular phone has tethering, you can just use the phone over wifi so you don't have to get a separate plan for it.

Edit: I think you can even find this at the Fry's on MoPac & Parmer, maybe for a little more money since it's a retail location, but I've definitely seen BLU products there.

If you can stretch to $400 (may be able to get it cheaper from other retailers, just based on Amazon) then the Pixel 3a would probably be your best bet as it is stock android, and you should be able to disable Assistant via settings. Sadly, it does not have a Micro-SD slot but comes with 64GB of space which should be enough to store a load of music. Also has a really nice camera which is a plus.

https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Memory-Phone-Unlocked/dp/B07R7DY911/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=pixel%2B3a&qid=1566164532&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

Or, if you can't stretch to that, for $215, you can get the Xiaomi Mi A3 which comes with stock android (so no bloat), 64GB and a micro-sd slot. A decent overall phone, the specs won't blow your socks off but for playing music, calling, texting and navigating should be very fast on this phone (and the pixel)

> Really, so there's no store that offers certain Google products on Amazon, because no single store is interested in selling them? Amazon outright bans sale of those products by any store on their platform. Instead of your search for Google home, you get the Amazon echo as the first home Assistant result.

I'm sorry, you were saying?

This guy would probably be as cheap as you could possibly go. The only issues is that its battery is small, it doesnt have LTE and its extremely limited on storage. Your best bet is taking a look at Used Nexus 5's, A used moto X, a used LG G3 or any other flagship phone from the last two years.

u/cmdrchkn · 1 pointr/Xperiaz3

This is actually the reason I ended up replacing my z3 after just barely a year. The D6166 is the only z3 model that can't unlock the bootloader and it was abandoned for updates very quickly (other models at least got 6.0).

Since TMobile is GSM, you should check Amazon for unlocked devices since they tend to be cheaper than financing in the long run (assuming $2-300 up front is doable). Something like the Moto G5 Plus should be pretty decent without crippling your bank account.

u/Workywork15 · 5 pointsr/canada

Nope, sorry. When buying a phone for a US carrier not sold by the carrier (aka bring-your-own "unlocked" phone) you need to find an explicit confirmation from the seller that this specific model supports carrier X. This confirmation doesn't apply to any other model sold under the same name.

For example:

  • Moto G5. Explicitly "Fully Compatible" with Verizon. But that doesn't mean some overseas model Moto G5 is compatible with Verizon.
  • LG X charge. "Compatible with AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile networks." This one doesn't even claims to be compatible with Verizon. So it's not compatible.

Depends on the phone and seller. Sometimes you get only amazon's return policy (or the seller's), sometimes you get manufacturer warranty.

u/moth_dad · 2 pointsr/Ultralight

I think a lot of it will come down to battery and how often you intend to use the phone (for GPS etc). Batteries can be one of the heavier parts of a phone, a more powerful phone will use the battery more quickly, but there might be a limit to what you'd consider usable in a lower end phone.

The Unihertz Jelly is tiny and apparently only 60g, but that only helps so much if you end up having to carry a larger external battery to compensate.

If your phone is going to get even moderate use (rather than sitting in your bag for emergencies) I'd maybe start at with a battery comparison database and look up the weights of phones with an expected uptime which will avoid you carrying an external battery.

Note: The warranty is 90 days, so there is some extra risk involved for the lower price. Personally, I think it's worth it, especially if you buy refurbished goods regularly. Even if you get stuck with a lemon sometimes, overall you should still come out ahead in the long run.

Also, if you have a Visa or Amex card that extends warranties, it will work for refurbished phones too (extending it to 180 days).

Yes, I've been through this process many times!

I hate smartphones for so many reasons. The expectation of being constantly available to your screen. The goddamn size of them -- even when I'm wearing clothes with good pockets, I'm a small woman! There's only ROOM for so much pocket ON MY BODY! Smartphones have basically forced me into carrying a purse.

I went back to dumbphones for about a year but, like you, eventually the need for maps got the best of me. Honestly it was the only thing I missed, but I REALLY missed it. So I wound up back with a smartphone, and once again vaguely pissed off about all the things about it I hate.

Now I'm trying this. It's a dumbphone sized smartphone that's snappy enough to not frustrate me, but not high powered enough to let me disappear into a screen when I should be engaging with the world. It'll do maps, which is really all I care about, and I can finally get rid of the damn purse again.

I am planning to start a KonMari Pt 2: The Digital Hoard in the next few weeks. Transferring over to this smaller phone full-time is gonna be part of that.

I have all of my electronics gathered in one place, and I'm planning to do a major declutter of all photos and files. I have a server, so I want everything backed up onto it, and then my actual daily use devices to be clean.

Then once I've done that, I'm going to tackle... email. I'm NOT looking forward to it, but it desperately needs doing!
