If you get curious and completely disassemble the rifle or you're replacing the Sear Spring with the YoDave one, be extremely careful when you remove the Sear Pin. There is a Sear Steel Ball in there (see 2:45 in this video) that will shoot out, and you will lose it. I only found mine after much frustration and the eventual help of a magnet. It's also very hard to get back in without a fairly simple trick, explained in this thread.

I would suggest trying to adjust the Trigger Rod Nut to adjust the trigger pull first. I've done that and found it to be quite good. That said, I'm going to buy the YoDave CZ 452 trigger kit right now and install it immediately when it comes (Hooray for not being unemployed anymore!).

Instead of a bipod like others are suggesting to steady it, I have found great pride in being able to properly use a sling (also this video and this hilarious one and this and this and this one for lefties and many others you can find yourself). My personal favorites are the M1907 leather sling and the USGI Web Sling. It's important to note that a heavier rifle does not necessarily make it more steady. In fact, after a few shots, it's more likely to become less accurate as your support arm tires. With the use of a sling, your arms will be substantially less tired than without, and you will be inherently steadier anyway.

If you can find an Appleseed Event near you, I highly recommend it. You'll get all of this from a qualified instructor with some one-on-one time as well. They suggest using a semi-automatic rifle with peep sights, but a bolt action with tangent sights (what comes standard on the CZ 452) will work splendidly. There you will learn basic riflery and marksmanship, as well as some American history through kind-of-embellished storytelling.

Here's a PDF copy of the instruction manual *PDF Warning, duh in English. Study it during take down and cleaning, and maybe you'll find the courage to completely disassemble your rifle. You'll have a greater understanding of how your rifle works after doing that.

Most importantly, be safe and have fun! You've chosen a fantastic rifle! Welcome to my favorite sport and passion!

Before handling a firearm...

remember, and remind those around you

Treat all guns as if they are loaded.

Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

I pocket carry a SIG P938, and I have experience with holsters, because I feel like the only way to try them out is to buy them and use them. Unfortunately this makes for quite the collection of holsters in a box you don't use.

So, let's start with the bad.

---

Alabama Holster:

CONS:

The hook to catch your pocket on draw is OK .. it's not perfect.

It does little to conceal print shape.

I did not care for the grip of the kydex, it was just a weird draw.

It was expensive.

It took for-friggin-ever to get, their back log of orders was months deep.

PROS:

It's kinda neat I guess?

Hickok45 loved and endorsed it, shrug

Now let's talk what works really really well as an everyday solution.

---

DeSantis Nemesis:

CONS:

I can't think of one.

PROS:

The pocket hook that catches on draw is perfect.

It is a little sticky, (rubber texture) but not too bad. This too is great for the draw.

It's cheap, (like $16-$18) and readily available on Amazon.

Does a nice job on print and is a great everyday solution for slacks.

This is mine.

---

The DeSantis Super Fly:

I have this one as well.

For me it is far too fat, and far too sticky. Some people like it better.

Edit: Yeah, I edited. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Yea sounds like a good plan but some tips on hugging: for hip carry make sure your carry side arm is the low arm in the hug if that makes sense. and for appendix just make sure you keep your butt back during the hug. but as for the surprise hugs from behind and little kids in general I would probably suggest an alternate carry method like the can can concealment I'm not too familiar with this one, but the one I can recommend is the smart carry its basically like a fanny pack that sits over your private parts so no real way of accidental touching (and its really comfortable to me at least.

u/roadkill6 · 2 pointsr/guns

A basic cleaning kit, a bottle of Break Free CLP, some disposable ear plugs, and a pair of safety goggles shouldn't run you more than $30 total and will be perfect for what you want. As you get more involved and buy more guns you'll buy more gear, better cleaning stuff (boresnakes and the like), you'll find an oil that you particularly like (personally, I'm partial to Militec and Strike Hold), and some fancy electronic ear-muffs and nice shooting glasses.

As far as a case, unless you're carrying an expensive rifle or custom match-grade pistol or you'll be rock climbing with it, you don't need a Pelican case. A $10 plastic pistol case with egg-crate foam inside will suffice for just about everything you will be doing with your pistol. I know you said you already ordered snap-caps, but I have to recommend the A-Zoom aluminum caps. The plastic ones break too easily.

If I could give you one piece of advice it would be this: I know that it's fun to buy every accessory ever made for your gun, but honestly most of them are more gimmicky than useful. Start simple and cheap and buy things as you need them. Learn from other shooters what works and what doesn't and make friends that will let you try their gear, guns, and accessories so that you aren't buying blindly. Everyone is different and what works for one person may not work well for you.

Good luck and welcome to the club!

I don’t have much to compare to but I’ll do my best to write an honest review and my overall thoughts. As well as my upgrade plans.

Recoil:
Wasn’t bad, it was manageable and I was able to adjust to target again quickly. I’ve read with an upgraded recoil spring this can be improved on further and I will likely do so.

Trigger:
Surprisingly good. I’ve read the 1.0 had a crap trigger and the M2.0 was an improvement but wasn’t sure just how much. I’ve never shot a 1.0 but this seemed really good. The reset felt solid, I didn’t have any issues.

Accuracy:
I can’t comment on this yet since I’m a crap shot currently, I wouldn’t dare blame the gun for that.

Grip:
Incredible, plain and simple.

Performance:
I shot a little over 100 rounds this session with no jams, using 3 kinds of ammo (1x box of Federal & 1x box of American Range Ammo, as well as a magazine of Critical Defense). The gun went bang every time, was easy to rack the slide. Not sure what else to say, it works and it works well.

Loading Magazines:
I know some people mention issues with loading magazines being difficult. Just slap it in, it’s a tough gun and you don’t need to be gentle. I didn’t see much resistance in loading magazines but I always smack it in to make sure it’s seated properly and I had zero difficulty and zero problems as a result.

Overall:
I love the Shield 2.0 based on the first day. It’s an incredibly concealable and seemingly reliable gun that has some mixed adds features and a larger carrying capacity over the Glock 43 which had been my other consideration.

Near-Future Upgrades:

Trijicon Night Sights - already have them but I need to get them installed
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IUB098E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_zaz763mdj9bbN

Hyve Extended Mag Release - nothing wrong with the standard one but my hands are a bit smaller so I plan to change it
https://hyvetechnologiesbuilder.com/index.php/product/extended-mag-release-for-the-shield/

Crimson Trace Laserguard Pro Green Laser w/ Light - Best option for a tactical laser and the Crimson laser does not increase the amount of space the gun takes up outside of its already existing maximum dimensions.
https://tacticalgear.com/crimson-trace-ll-801g-laserguard-pro-with-iwb-holster-green

MagGuts - new internals for the standard 7-round magazine which increases it’s capacity to 8. I like the 7 round mags for carrying over the 8s because it keeps the gun extremely concealable while giving me an extra round.

Techna Clip Gun Belt Clip - alternative to an IWB holster. The clip replaces the slide plate direclty

Upgrade Considerations:

Apex Trigger (Not sure if I’ll do this one as the M2.0 trigger seemed pretty good out of the box)

I carry a Nano IWB as well. I have found it just too bulky to pocket carry. Maybe some people wear their pants differently, but even my most relaxed pair of jeans is not loose enough to allow a Nano and holster to fit without looking and feeling like I have a brick in my pocket.

If I have to pocket carry, I go with an LCP, just because it's as small as I can get in a decent caliber. I've found the best pocket holster to be a Desantis Superfly. It's extremely tacky on the outside and fits an LCP well without coming out of the pocket when drawing. Whatever it is on the outside kind of feels like those rubber mats you put on your dashboard to hold a cellphone or sunglasses in place even under heavy g-forces from driving around. There's a reason it's rated so highly on Amazon.

Sorry, I don't have any advice for pocketing the Nano. I haven't been successful in my attempts, and luckily already had the LCP for the rare occasions when IWB doesn't work.

Check the FAQ like the sidebar says. But I've got nothing pressing at the moment so here:

I'm answering your last question first. The Lyman manual is definitely a good place to start. And you should purchase that first and read it before you purchase anything else. It will answer most of your questions and keep you safe. It is also recommended to get other brand manuals as well, such as Lee or Hornady. Every manual is different and will give you a broader base to start from.

Press: I'm a single stage guy so I can't help with the press. You will need caliber specific dies. All brands work, Lee is the cheapest, RCBS is kinda the standard, Dillon a step above RCBS, Forster is generally regarded as the best. If you use carbide dies you don't really need to lube pistol brass. And if you do lube, its personal preference. I use a 10:1 alcohol lanolin mix that I spray on the brass inside a gallon ziplock, then shake around a bit.

Tumbler: I use the HF dual drum with a modded drum. It works fine for me as I do small batches of rifle brass. You should probably look at the FA Tumbler or something larger. It comes with media and a small packet of their detergent. Most people have great results with dish soap and a pinch of lemishine. And you really shouldn't need a primer pocket cleaner if you wet tumble.

Bullets: Those bullets should work well. And its mostly personal preference and what shoots well out of your specific firearm.

Powder: Powder is something you either buy in person or large bulk orders. The hazmat fee is a killer unless you are ordering the max weight per order, which is normally about 50 pounds. And unless you are dead set on a certain powder, most people use what they can find locally. The Field and Stream should have powder, I've never been to a Walmart that sells smokeless powder. And read your manual to know it that powder has load data for what you are loading.

Primers: Primers for the most part are personal preference, they don't affect loads until you get into long range precision rifle. And see the powder above about hazmat fees.

Calipers: Those calipers will work.

Chronograph: You really don't need a chrono for what you'll be doing, at least initially.

Have fun and stay safe. Welcome to the rabbit hole that is reloading.

  2. Kershaw Clash - I've had this knife for over 5 years and it won't be quitting on me any time soon

  3. Columbia Leather Walllet - Also had this over 5 years and it has held up very well

For pants you are going to need navy cargo pants which can be picked up from amazon or your local army surplus store. Your best bet for the shirt would be under armor or similar compression shirt. Unless you're willing to settle for black, the shoulder holster is going to be tricky. This is what I could find on amazon Brown Black. Leg holster Gloves.
A rock climbing harness can be expensive and now look like you want it to, I would suggest leaving it out (you will be more comfortable walking around, trust me) or getting some nylon webbing and making your own. Good luck with your gender bent Leon!

u/_hester_ · 7 pointsr/ar15

At first, I didn't think I would get more than two rifles, so I opted for the Plano foam-padded case. I bought two so I could lock up both rifles (from the kiddos, not thieves), and not take up a ton of room in my house. They're very good cases, and I would recommend them for traveling (either road trips or flying). If you get one of these, don't trust the built in locks, and buy some decent (long bolt) padlocks. Negative: They're not great for taking to the range. They're bulky, and awkward if you need to set them out of the way while you're shooting.

Of course, I bought a third rifle on an impulse, and it came with something like this for free. I actually ended up using this more than the hard cases for range trips since it's much more compact/maneuverable, and just carries the essentials (a few magazines and a good-sized pouch for tactical Skittles). For a one-rifle person, this is probably the best value, and more practical for most people's needs.

That said, few of us actually stay one-rifle gun owners for long. I just punted and bought a $100 metal gun cabinet from Walmart to control access. The nice Plano cases are now just used for traveling rather than storage.

My favorite, though, is a double carbine bag. Even if you only have one rifle (now), it's a great bag with plenty of extra storage. It will fit two sets of eye and ear protection and a lot of pre-loaded magazines along with two rifles. I didn't think I'd ever use the backpack straps until a few weeks ago when we decided to find a place to shoot in the National Forest that required a little hiking off the road. The bag really saved the day, and made the whole experience a lot more comfortable while packing about 40 pounds of rifles + ammo.

Just my $0.02.

  • RIGID 22 Inch Pro Organizer - $28.78

I wasn't too much of a fan of Harbor Freight's cases, so I went to Home Depot and found a case that looked awesome. Just put foam in it last night and everything fits great.

The top actually pops out, revealing 2 inches of unused hollow depth. I will use it to integrate my charging station.

I've decided to integrate my FPV kit into a Plano Single Gun Case, so I can relocate at will without having to lug around a huge station. So far preliminary lay-outs looks like the gun case will fit everything necessary pretty easily. Will update once it's not horrifically messy.

I almost bought (and still might) a Mika pocket holster after reading a lot of great things about it. The lead time was too long for me when I was looking, so in a rush I went for a cheapo holster on amazon. It's not thinnest, but in a cargo pocket it worked great. I was very surprised by how nice it worked. UTG 3.9" Ambidextrous Pocket Holster https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00749SYYO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_C8lhybRAQ88P5

EDIT: Somehow I missed that you were also looking for IWB. For that, I have a Kusiak leather holster. Nice and low profile, great retention. I find the wheel of the gun sticks into me a bit too much for 3 o'clock. I end up with it at about 4 o'clock and it's comfortable all day. I just need to by a boot grip so it will stop grabbing my shirts.

u/Potss · 1 pointr/ar15

Yes, and it is pretty cheap:https://www.amazon.com/Hornady-99240-Handbook-10Th-Edition/dp/B01MAUZ71V/ref=pd_sbs_200_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MAUZ71V&pd_rd_r=GS8HYX4JXZE0ZME1HPKX&pd_rd_w=vgQwu&pd_rd_wg=QoWtQ&psc=1&refRID=GS8HYX4JXZE0ZME1HPKX

There are other guides but I like Hornady's and it is recommended a lot.

Really though, if you read through the guides on the hide one by one, and take your time, they are actually a pretty good summary. Just make sure you go in order from basics --> advanced part 1 --> part 6.

The DeadPool belt buckle was hand made with:

1 CD (for Tracing the circles in the foam board)

Foam Board (3 Layers)Exacto Knife

Sandpaper

Modgpodge Sealer + Paintbrush

Black spray paint

Cardboard

Acrylic paints

--Use the CD as a trace for the Foam Board. cut out three circle layers, and also cut
out the symbol if you want to keep a 3-D look.

--Use any kind of glue to put together the pieces, and then apply sandpaper to the edges of the buckle to round them out. Also use sandpaper on small areas for fine touches.

--Begin applying the Modgepodge Sealer with the paint brush.

--After drying spray paint the whole buckle. If you didn't add any sealer the buckle will become soggy and deform.

--After drying the paint, apply your acrylic colours and you're done.

--Add more sealer for extra protection if you'd like.

--I also glued the C-D I used for tracing to the back for added support the prevent it from bending at the edges, and added velcro to it and the belt. It is very sturdy.

---- Here are the links to everything I purchased for my costume.

-The Suit - I made sure to use the custom sizing because I'm 6'6, so I think it's worth the couple minutes to size yourself.

-The Swords - I live in Canada, and these are the best swords I could find that work well for the cosplay, and have a good shipping price.

-The Belt and Holster

-The Gun - I already had a cheap airsoft pistol I picked up at a surplus store. I spray painted it and painted the DeadPool logo on it's side just because.

I have 1 of pretty much every current expansion save for the upsilon and the resistance bomber in 1 of these and multiples of many. GREAT option for epic ships. Line the top of the inside with foam or bubble and you can use the top tier too. Take a sharp razor and just cut out the shapes, use the mini as your template and score the shape into the surface, move the mini and carve out a slot that shape. Dont go too deep and you're all set. If you lay them out and maximize your space before hand these can be insanenly space efficient. On top of that it could take a tumble down some stairs and leave everything intact. Beats a bulky and expensive Feldherr that doesnt even protect as well. More work but so cheap. Good luck!

May the force be with you!

He needs, yes. The Lee Challenger kit is around $99 on Amazon, and that has everything he'll need to get started except for: Bullets, Primers, Powder and Brass and DIES for 7.62x54r (another $30-$40)

Now, he'll want a digital scale, a case trimmer, and a tumbler to get his brass clean and pretty. That all can be added on, and most likely, be purchased in addition to the press kit for about $200.

Here's a list of things he'll want:

I also use the Safariland ALS Model 6378 without the hood and chopblock. I can't recommend it enough. I'm not sure what level is classifies as, but the weapon is automatically locked upon holstering and is removed by manipulating a thumb lever.

Really nice, gives a good positive grip on the gun and my thumb slides directly into the right position after operating the lock. I would highly recommend it for a 19. Great for range use, OC or CC under a jacket or sweatshirt.

  • Water bottle: Klean Kanteen 64 ounce stainless steel - $30
  • Phone: I might buy a cheap MetroPCS phone w/ $25 plan
  • Wallet: Alpine Swiss - $12
  • Watches: I'd be happy with a black and brown Timex Easy Reader - $25 each. Fossil would be my next level, but what are some some even better watches?
  • Flashlight: This is hard because I love my light but it's discontinued. It would have to be a single AAA light with a reversible pocket clip. Maybe a Lenser P2 - $17
  • Protection: Condom case - $5 and Skyn condoms - $17
  • Protection: Glock 19 - $550 and Galco King Tuk - $60
  • More protection: Milt Sparks pocket magazine carrier - $63
  • Belts: Black and Brown Hanks Amish Belts - $36 each. Maybe I'd shop around, but they have been working for me.

    Keys:

  • Leatherman carabiner + bottle opener - $10
  • SOG keyknife - $11
  • Uncle Bill's tweezers - $10 for 2
  • A pill holder from Winn-Dixie... - ~$5
  • Reusable earplugs - $13

I'm not sure if I want to carry a full-sized knife anymore but I think the Boker Plus Nano ($43) looks cool!

That's just about my current EDC. I'm planning on eventually buying the carabiner, key knife, tweezers, and I'll probably go with a desantis pocket mag carrier opposed to the 3x more expensive Milt Sparks.

The Magpul MS1 sling with this attachment on the right hand side of the buttstock and this attachment on the forward sling loop in front of the handguard. If you want to use cheaper attachment alternatives then that's fine. I found this sling setup to be the best and I've tried lots.

I recently got this double gun bag and it’s phenomenal. Fits my Krytac mkII SPR with a longer barrel and suppressor, my HPA carbine And two pistols plus mags, co2, batteries and tools. It works great and it comes in varying sizes.
It also has the option to be worn as a backpack and is surprisingly comfortable even with weight.
It also has multiple pouches and compartments. Sounds like it would be perfect for what you’re looking for

Edit: this also goes up to 55 inches.

I recommend this double carbine bag. Well made, lots of storage, good zippers.

They drop into the low $40's quite often and are a really nice and fairly discreet bag. I can just barely squeeze a 16" barrel ar and a 16" barrel 22lr into my 36" that I got on WOOT for $40 and you can carry it like a backpack.

Also, they make solid colors that aren't obnoxious.

u/Dakkaface · 5 pointsr/rpg

Depends on the type. If they're metal, you want to store them in something padded so the paint won't chip. I use Plano 1404 cases to store my wargaming minis, and they'd probably work well for random D&D minis that are Large or smaller as well.

For plastics, I found a couple 3-packs of these interlocking tool organizers. Three of these fit (almost) my entire Bones Kickstarter, which is 200-odd minis. The bigger dragons don't fit in here, and the smaller ones only do because the wings come off. Some of the larger minis also only fit because they disassemble. That said, they let you easily sort all the hero and monster minis, and bring only what you need by locking them together if you want to bring multiple boxes. Instead of looking for tackleboxes, look for tool or part organizers.' They tend to have larger compartments, and some have slats you can move around to customize the shape & size of the compartments.

I wouldn't put UTG accessories on a gun, but I've enjoyed this case, especially for the $59.97 price:

  • UTG Deluxe Covert Homeland Security Gun Case

They have other options for less as well, but this one has been good in my experience. I put targets, mags, a rear bag, and cleaning rod in the front pocket.

The Zipper pull tabs are metal, and can accept small pad locks or airline locks if your state requires the case to be locked during transport.

BUY THIS SAFARILAND.

I really can't say enough good things about this holster. I used Safariland exclusively professionally and these new 7TS models are even better now. And at less than $35 you won't get a better bang for your buck. Incredibly lightweight, strong, impervious to the elements, and all-around perfect as far as I'm concerned. The ALS retention system is my absolute favorite active-retention system that I've used. Safariland or bust for me.

Beautiful gun, but the hand stop and tied sling look difficult. Have you considering moving the hand stop up and using a QD swivel mount directly into the hand guard? Easy to detach. Magpul QD Quick-Disconnect Sling Swivel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HKBSQ26/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yR0KDb1XFKQQP

I carry appendix. And I love this holster. I honestly forget I'm wearing it most of the time. They have a summer version too which is nylon and lighter. But it's easier to get at the trigger. Either way I like both of them.

Was using a Plano 36" single gun all weather tactical hard case for awhile, but then I got two guns. Very secure, could padlock it (which meant I could security cable it to my SUV), and had great padding. Sucks as far as modifications though...would need to get new foam if you altered your gun too much.

Currently use a 42" Vism Double Case I got locally on sale for $50, which has all sorts of clones, some better (e.g. Death Dealer Tactical), most the same...which is to say "good enough" for my civvie use.

Really want to get a Cannae Triplex Acies for my next bag purchase, but that's for another day.

I just picked up a S&W Shield .40 3 weeks ago and I love it! Width = 0.95" / Height = 4.5" / Length = 6.1" / weight (Empty) = 19oz. It is so comfortable to carry. (Specs are the same for the 9mm)

I bought a Techna Clip belt clip that I attached to the gun to keep a very low profile when I carry. (https://www.amazon.com/Techna-Clip-Gun-Belt-Wesson/dp/B012Y8RAWG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479923421&sr=8-1&keywords=techna+clip+shield)

I also bought a trigger guard for it also when I carry. (https://www.amazon.com/Fixxxer-custom-F-I-X-Holster-conceal/dp/B00NDVN0RS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479923545&sr=8-1&keywords=m%26p+shield+trigger+guard)

With these two things it is extremely low profile and very comfortable to wear all day. I can even wear slim fit shirts without any type of bulge, from the gun, showing around my belt line. This is a highly recommended gun. If you go to wikiarms.com you can find some really good deals on things like ammo and guns. You can pick up a Shield for under $300!!!! Link below.

Thanks! I got the sling off Amazon, a repro manufactured in India by the listing info.

This being my first M1, I had a bit of a rocky start earlier today, firing 128 rounds of surplus Austrian 7.62 NATO. I'll chalk up most of them to user error as I was learning my way around the gun, buuuuut:

  • Had a few issues with clips not feeding properly. I'll chalk this up to mostly me learning how to feed the clips and the general finickiness of the M1.
  • About 60 or so rounds in, the front sight fell off. Range gunsmith came in to look at it, determined it was probably the oil heating up and loosening the sight, so we fixed it on the spot.
  • Around 90-100 rounds, had a failure to feed and the bolt actually got jammed up. Gunsmith came back with a rubber mallet and freed it up.

Other than that though, it sent rounds downrange when it wasn't being a dick about the clips. I'm still relatively new to shooting so I was getting horrible groups (albeit still hitting the target), but the other shooters at the range were able to get good ones at 20, 25 yards (I only have access to a 50 yard indoor range here in NJ). Recoils like a son-of-a-bitch, but I guess that's part of the charm.

You could also get a hard case if you like spending more money. A lock for the zippers might be a good idea. If you're trying to spend around $200 it's a little hard to know for sure what to get if you're also not trying to get things he already has, but I would personally love getting gear. Do you think you could sneakily take pictures of everything he has or would it be too obvious?

u/ShwishyShwa · 1 pointr/Firearms

I bought a cheap belly band just to see if I liked the concept/feel before investing into a quality made one like the kinds you referenced. I hated it. I wore it once and now it sits in a drawer. Very uncomfortable, itchy, etc. like others have mentioned.

However bad that experience was, I would still consider this:
https://www.amazon.com/MEDIUM-Generation-Concealed-Handgun-Holster/dp/B007QG6ZGE

They offer different sizes, that is just an example. Reid Henrichs has a pretty good video on it as well. The only reason I haven't tried it is because I've come pretty comfortable with ankle carry.

u/SableHAWKXIII · 3 pointsr/liberalgunowners

I got an LCP 1 not too long ago, bought an Uncle Mikes and returned it. It would not do me right, and I couldn't get it to draw well. Bought this and I'm beyond pleased with it. Can carry IWB or in pocket, and the gun always draws out smoothly. I carry it more days than I don't.

The material is also stiffer and does a better job of covering the trigger. Well worth the investment if you ask me.

u/jopasm · 6 pointsr/videography

A couple of things to think about: They're long and unwieldy. Are you going to be flying with them? How big is your car?

Secondly - they can look like gun cases and that may make some people paranoid.

With that being said I do use the Plano XL Pistol Case for some of my gear. They're $20-25 at most outdoor stores, have a layer of pick & pluck foam, and will fit quite a bit of gear. They look less like gun cases to me as well.

The reason Pelican cases are so expensive is they're an investment - you'll get years of service out of them and they're waterproof, rugged, and will survive being dropped off the back of a truck or sitting out in the rain for a couple of hours - and so will your equipment. If/when I move up to more expensive gear and doing more traveling I'll probably be upgrading to better cases. Until then, the Plano has been working well. It'll shrug off small drops or light rain for the time it takes to go from car to venue.

u/MontagneHomme · 1 pointr/MTB

There are a few simple solutions, but there really isn't a good way to go about it. If your gun has any steel parts, your sweat will cause it to rust profusely. Even titanium framed guns have steel hardware that are susceptible to corrosion. Paying attention is really the best defense you have against this sort of thing, and just hope they aren't clever enough to get past your detection.

u/ZombieCCW · 4 pointsr/CCW

I carry a Glock 19 and two spare Glock 17 mags. 50 rounds in total (15+1, 17, 17). Why? Under pressure, I'm sure I will not hit 100% of my shots. I'm not sure that I'll be up against only one threat. If I spend all 16 rounds (15+1) and the threat persists, I've got backup. And if a mag is failing to load or I encounter some other unforseen issue with it, I can just toss it aside for another.

AIWB - When I need to ensure everything is concealed such as when I carry at work, I carry the spares in a Raven Concealment double mag pouch that I "converted" to AIWB by adding some tuckable soft loops and my Glock 19 in a Raven Concealment Eidolon, also with tuckable soft loops.

OWB - When I am out hiking, cycling, or just want to carry OWB for comfort, I carry my mags in a dual mag pouch and my Glock 19 in a OWB Safariland holster, which conceals pretty well actually.

Side note - In warmer weather (as it has been lately), I've been digging Stealthgear's mini IWB holster, wearing it AIWB, in place of both actually - it's super comfy and the Ventcore helps to keep moisture to a minimum.

I've got a bit of insight on this one. First I would say that I love my aliengear CT 3.0. I wear it on a kydex reinforced hanks belt and often forget its there. I had a few scares when I first got the setup, only to realize that my gun was safely tucked into my belt, exactly where I had left it. I also have a cheap single clip holster found here:

https://www.amazon.com/Concealment-Express-IWB-KYDEX-Holster/dp/B016D2OTXW/ref=sr_1_5?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1488004868&sr=1-5&keywords=glock+43+holster

Its great as a nightstand trigger guard cover or for wearing for a short period but after a bit it becomes uncomfortable and makes my hips and butt ache a bit (I carry at 4:00). This is where that padding on the Aliengear between the gun and your body is so amazing. It really does a lot to spread out the pressure of the gun against my body and makes the carrying experience much more pleasant and comfortable.

The only downside I have to the AG stems from my laziness. I prefer to have my gun in a holster before putting it on my belt, so that the trigger guard is covered at all times while I'm sliding it between my belt and body. The AG is not the easiest thing to put on and take off my belt, so I usually end up reholstering the gun with the holster already on my belt. I still much prefer the Aliengear to any other holster Ive tried though.

And I've never had a bad experience with leather but my grandpa has some leather holsters that practically feel like thick cotton now. Kind of turned me away from the idea.

PS- Also if you do go with the AG, it comes with a small tube of threadlocker to put on the screws so they don't fall out. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! They luckily give you extra screws because I lost one on the first day, but not once since after using the threadlocker. I hope this helps your decision a bit.

Stay safe!

I use the UTG 3.9" Ambidextrous Pocket Holster for my LC9s - also holds an extra magazine. Makes a nice package for putting in a bag, glove compartment, whatever. It's your gun - carry it however you want to but keep it safe and legal. I want my gun accessible but not quick-drawable so that setup works for me. I think they make other sizes - not sure what would fit your Sig.

For a hard case I have been using pistol cases for years. They are cheap, sturdy, and have plenty of foam that you can cut out if you like. They will also hold an 817. Here is an example:

Seeing as how you are using Hornady equipment, the Hornady manual would be a good choice.

The seat/crimp die in a three die will work just fine to provide the required amount of crimp. A separate crimp die is not necessary. I have loaded tens of thousands of rounds of ammo without a separate crimp die. About 20 years ago Lee came up with a "factory crimp die" and implemented a marketing campaign for them. DO NOT overcrimp. The crimp die should just remove the flare and make the mouth of the cartridge cylindrical, but not tapered.

Your reloaded 9mm will have a Coke-bottle shape. This is normal.

The Lyman manual is another good one.

Each major bullet manufacturer has their own load manual for the best data for a particular bullet.

All powder manufacturers have their load data online.

If the 9mm dies are carbide, it will say so on the box.

When I was out of work and gas was cheaper, I used to take long drives to get my mind off of things. I took a drive up into the mountains, about 20 miles away from the main road. It was the middle of Summer, which means despite it being a forest, it was 90 plus degrees out. I was driving this cute little sports car, 2 door up this paved mountain road. I get to an outlook point, get out of my car to snap a picture. I locked myself out of the car while it was running and my phone was inside it.

Why on earth did I do that?

I didn't want to leave a car that was running to go get help...so I flagged down a car. The person told me there was a small time gas station about a mile away. The nice guy went and told them what was going on. A tow truck shows up. I'm expecting this hefty fee to have my locks popped. Nope. The guys pulls out a slim jim (that a car unlocking device) fresh from the wrapping, pops my lock. He charges me $15 for it and shows me how to hide it framework of my car in case I ever needed it.

And you know what? I used that thing at work dozens of times for other employees that did the very same thing.

This tactical holster is for my Natasha Romanoff avenger costume I've got the costume coming from China and this will complete it!

The problem with tackle boxes (used to use em for years) is stuff breaking is inevitable, or paint chipping, or heaven forbid you put a model in a spot it shouldn't be.. or you hear the telltale SNAP! of a bad placement..

That Sabol Foam link I saw was my entry level case until I got better when money permitted.. and I know people who use gun boxes (they come with the pluckfoam and everything! and are as cheap as 10$ at some places) and they can carry about 40 infantry in a pistol case, and 4 tanks in another.. to each their own, the dude looks a little crazy walkin around with 2 pistol cases but hey leaps and bounds better than a tackle box.. cheaper too..

5.11 had a triangle sling bag that has a concealed pouch on the front of the strap. When you wear it the holster operates like a cross draw. The pouch is detachable and can be rigged on and cross body strap if you can loop it on.

They used to sell just the holster but I believe it still comes with the bag.

Only really works if you have a cross body strap and doesn't fit much more than a compact, but the pull tabs unzip it quickly and for a while I was squeezing my P226 into it.

It’s the chocolate raptor, adjustable height, not fixed.

Sling is here. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004G02ULC was kind of dry so I rubbed hand lotion into it for a while. Skin is skin, I guess.

I use either a Magpul MS4, GI sling, or a US 1907 sling on my AR rifles. Just change out the connectors for what you need for your rifle if you don't have the standard connection points.

> If it wasn't for present and future children in the picture, I probably wouldn't be purchasing a safe.

If the gun is going to be on you most times, except at night, won't a trigger lock or cable lock suffice? Many gun stores give trigger locks away.

Or if you don't really need a safe, Plano sells a pistol case for $10 at Walmart and $8 at amazon. Throw a combo lock that fits snugly on it and you are all set.

Personally, I don't see spending a couple hundred bucks when you don't have to.
