  1. it's a joying unit but they don't sell it anymore apparently. Seicane sells one like it that I'm getting next because it's more powerful, I linked to it in another comment. The controller is a gamesir gs3.

  2. the unit was just under 300 and the controller is about 30-40.

  3. it's running a custom OS made for it that I haven't messed with. It's Android lollipop but it's got some extras that make it better for a head unit like the software for the backup cam. I used nice Nova launcher to get that look though, the regular home application was garbage.

  4. that's a complicated question, but to make it simple it's just like modding the PC version. Each car took a fair amount of work on my part in a 3d modeler and editing game code to be just right. If you want a zip of just the dealership and cars inside I can zip that up with instructions.

  5. the head unit WAS on Amazon but is no longer and the game controller is still up there. I did just find this though and it seems nice, I might get this one as my next one, still undecided.

PS thanks I thought it was a nice touch when I was working on it, makes it feel like some special but almost oem thing. Like a special edition of gtasa with Toyota product placement was my idea. Yeah it's hard finding games with the twins, I'm bummed real racing 3 doesn't have it because that's my favorite Android racing game it's amazing. If I could mod that I would.

Ah, well. This really sucks for you. I am sorry that this happened. So it sounds like your stereo is on the fritz, the cause is unknown, but those radios are junk. Tons of issues on that model of radio.

Normally I would suggest to just replace the radio, but your vehicle faces a much worse problem, it is integrated into your AC controls. There are aftermarket solutions, but its either cheesy or expensive. I suggest you bite the bullet and go for one of 5 different solutions.

Solution 1: Put a switch in the fuse location (make sure you put a fuse on the switch's wires, so it is still fused) So you can reset your stereo much easier, and/or while driving. This is the absolute cheapest and fastest route. Also the least reliable.

Solution 2: Replace your stereo with another exact stereo. Its pretty easy, you can do it yourself, but you will be prone to the same problems down the road (most likely) This may be the most expensive option depending on who you talk to. A stereo for this vehicle is expensive if purchased from a dealer (about $1500)

Solution 3: Do the best option and just replace the stereo with aftermarket, this may be the second most costly solution. But I believe it to be the best solution. Pick whatever aftermarket stereo and Do this dash kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Metra-2003-2007-Honda-Accord-Single-Double-Din-Dash-Kit-99-7803G-/151949253956?hash=item2360e19d44:g:p1gAAOSwT~9Wlq7G

Solution 4: This option is less expensive, but gives you a new radio. It is a little cheesey, but overall you spend a lot less while getting a new working stereo. You disable the top stereo, and install it lower, inside that pocket just in front of the shifter. The pocket gets replaced as a new location for a stereo. This option is okay, but it is a little cheap looking. http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Install-Accord-wiring-installation/dp/B000KL113O

Solution 5: go for a new, All-in-one unit that replaces everything at once, (AC and Stereo) It's a fun option, but again, a little expensive depending on your financial situation. The downside to this solution, is that if the new stereo fails for some reason, you're back where you started, but this is a viable option to go with.

I've had an android aftermarket radio installed in my car. So far its been just a little over a month and its fuckin awesome! I've been meaning to do a review or just quick video of it just to give others an idea of how it looks and works (a lot of people have asked me about it). I got this one in particular by the brand Joying: http://www.amazon.com/JOYING-Android-Stereo-Radio-Camera/dp/B016KLZUFC?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

Only $300! It looks even better in person. This one comes with a back up cam, front dash cam (the dash cam sucks btw, better to get your own. But the back up cam works fantastic), usb stick, and microphone.. If you just want the android head unit without the extra's, its like $30 cheaper. So far so good, it supports steering wheel controls, bluetooth, connects to speakers, mirror link, google maps, and all that other stuff you need! Don't be fooled just because its a Chinese brand. They have great customer service and usually respond within a day depending on where you live because of the time differences. I've had the expensive Pioneer brands and tested out other ones that sell for 2-3 times more and this one beats them all! It just looks cool too, it basically works just like your smartphone. You can watch youtube vids while driving too which is neat.

Yeah there are aptx touchscreen double dins. but they are buggy as hell. It's not on the way out, it just hasn't been implemented as it should be. People don't care much about SQ over bluetooth. The stuff I've read pretty much everywhere is that "If you want SQ, go usb".

So here's a quick story of mine. I did this double din aptx head unit research a while ago actually, I wanted a decent aptx screen head unit, since I'm an all bluetooth guy. I don't like any cables running through the cabin. Turns out there are absolutely no options other than Atoto. So I bought one (not the one I linked above, the lowest tier W3) and it was a bitch to implement. My main gripe with it was that it made the speakers reproduce a pop noise whenever I turned off/on the car, which did not happen with my previous pioneer, nor my current kenwood single din. HOWEVER, it did sound amazing, much better than my pioneer did over bluetooth, and also switching songs/ pausing the music was pretty much instant (latency is very much improved if both devices are aptx enabled). The unit turns on in a split second, and it is very fast and responsive, but the speakers popping every time I turned off the car was annoying to say the least.

Worth to mention, Atoto customer support is A++, and I'm now in the process of returning my atoto W3, and have an A6 (the one I linked) shipped to me for free. If that one works and doesn't present any issues, I'd recommend it, but in the meantime, there's really no good solution for an aptx double din screen HU. I'll probably do a little review here if the A6 behaves as I expect it to.

Thanks, that very helpful. Do you guys have/know of any videos on youtube of someone actually using the device in real life, (there are LOTS of installs and static demonstrations), but it would be nice to see the units interactions in the real world. I had only seen one, and the guy was very negative about it, but I think it was a much older device.

Currently I'm on an iPhoneX and an Alpine ILX-107, but switching to Android isnt a problem, just curious if anyone is using a Joying type unit with iPhone? If yes, was getting the HotSpot to auto-bound a problem? I have noticed in the past that iOS doesn't seem to want non-iPhone to autobound and usually requires you manually enabling it hotspot each time, which would be a deal-breaker, just curious if the new joying get around it.

I saw this unit, with 4gigs and 8core, it looked pretty good, but notice it doesnt have track forward buttons, so if you are in Waze, how do you tell it to go to the next track, etc.

Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX.

It can be found on amazon for $694 right now. I’m pretty sure there are cheaper options but I’ve always hated the resistive touch screens; capacitive touch was why I got this one (along with wireless ACP.)

I bought a special harness to retain use of my steering wheel controls and adapt it specifically for my 9-3; it would work for yours too. It ships from Europe. You could possibly source all the components individually, but this was easier. The harness allows you to use your steering wheel controls, tie into the factory amp, bypass the parking brake requirements (auto only), and reverse gear (auto only). Also, by tying into the factory amp, you get the power from the unit and the cars amp and can push upgraded speakers much easier.

Yes, did the complete install myself. It really wasn’t that bad. I used this guide to get started. It really helped with my confidence before dropping money on all the parts

The most time consuming part was getting the signal right for my backup cam and making it work with my 6MT; it’s plug and play with an auto. This was much more expensive than other options but was essentially best on the market for my use. Weather resistant, 1/3” sensor that’s really low light capable so you don’t need additional lights, extremely small footprint and installs easily. Also, you can take it apart to simply mount it using the top two bolts, which is what I did.

I did install all the options that came along with the unit. Microphone, GPS, aux, etc. But I also installed an HDMI adapter to play movies from my phone (android has mirror cast, but personally, I prefer the reliability of a hard-wired connection. Additionally, I installed a parking brake by-pass for the unit. This is simple, and cheap, but not needed for automatic transmissions.

The whole package ended up costing me about $1200…But hey, wireless carplay/android auto is worth it considering there are only around 8 new cars on the market coming with it in 2020…

u/Why_Is_This_NSFW · 1 pointr/saab

Does yours say "General Motors" on your Bluetooth menu on your phone? Passcode should be simple like 0000 or 1234 IIRC. If not, then you might have to hit the green button and say "Pairing" and it might spit out a code, I can't remember. I'm pairing mine with my LG V10 and it works fine for phone, just no music. I didn't think they changed much between the '07 and '09 models. My handsfree works really well in my Saab except for the fact that when I pick up I usually have to wait a second for it to connect, so I hit the green button then wait a second then talk.

I've really been considering updating my head unit to a Joying chinesium thingamajig. If I do I'll probably post on here to ask about adapters and shit because I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm happy with the rest of my '09 but I'd really like A2DP for bluetooth music from my phone.

EDIT: If it would help, I can de-pair my phone and record a video of me pairing it up again, just let me know.

EDIT2: Just did it, you gotta go thru your bluetooth menu and do what I did, it wouldn't let me record and pair at the same time but hopefully the video gives you the gist of it. Apparently the owner before me had an iPhone so I had to clear that out. It will give you the code to connect on your phone, hopefully.

Hi Guy, Is your F150 high disposition? If it is low configuration, you could choose to buy a universal one with 5.1 Lollipop system, 4.4 syatem is too old. I keep one Joying univresal unit https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01EG1ZRGU installed on my ford, it works well but I purchased the dash kit and harness separately to help installation, compare with about $400, it save some money for me. Hope it could help you.

u/cadillacmike · 1 pointr/CarAV

Yeah, that looks the same as the Joying one. Here is the Joying one Amazon:

I'm not sure what the best head unit is out there, but I think a majority of them are 400+. Of course, I haven't looked at them since I bought mine.

[I have this Dasaita](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DWV1VQ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and love it.

I don't use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto though. From what I understand with this one in particular though, you'll have to buy a separate cable for either or. I think there's a workaround to get Apple CarPlay to work though. I honestly haven't looked at it since I have an Android that I just use as a hotspot so I can have Spotify and Waze up.

I would say hit up the civicx forums and see what people are saying is worthwhile. I got the Dasaita soon after I got my '19 sport and haven't looked back.

u/HayesHacker0NE · 2 pointsr/cruze

There are aftermarket radio head units that have android built right in.

There is this Tesla inspired radio - Here

Also, there is a radio that looks closer to stock - Here

You could probably find much better prices than on Amazon, but at least you can see the styles of radio they make for our car. If you scroll through the months/years of posts on this subreddit, it seems there have been a few Cruze owners who have installed the large screen tesla radio with success, so it seems like a promising option.

To get internet on these radios so you can install apps, you need to just turn on the Hotspot feature on your smartphone and connect to the phone via WiFi.

u/sm1t3m3 · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I can't speak for that particular one, but I recently put this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S5XZYKK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in my MKV and it has been a splendid upgrade. Fit perfectly in the dash, looks like OEM, and I have no complaints about the sound quality. The instructions were awful, but I am sure you will be able to figure it out just like I did.

u/speedisavirus · 1 pointr/Wrangler

For most of it I would say look at replacement speakers. Should be some reasonably priced Infinitis around. I know Kicker actually makes speakers specifically for the sound bar.

The sub, the stock sub is about as slick as it gets in my opinion. It takes up no space as it fits flush with the floor pan. Not earth shattering bass but I feel it when it's bumping. I'd totally do that one again. I think this probably also fits that enclosure but I'd double check first.

Head units...I am looking at a few also. Something with mirroring or android auto. I have this one bookmarked for later reference. Might get it myself. Curious if it supports using the Jeep's microphone though as it's placement is pretty good for wind noise reduction.

u/BlueFamily · 1 pointr/projectcar

It's possible, but with the existing aftermarket, and the price most salvage yards ask for for OEM radio touchscreens... fuck that. Bonus, if your car is a VW, Joying and several others have OEM appearing pretty nice touchscreens.

u/ErectChair · 1 pointr/Cartalk

Yea I am just trying to get a system that is functional. My old one gave me control over the radio, A/C, ect. but I can't use any of that anymore. I honestly don't care about the navigation aspect.

Like if I bought something like this https://www.amazon.com/XTRONS-Display-Navigator-Bluetooth-Supports/dp/B07MR3VFY6/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=honda+accord+navigation&qid=1568765826&refinements=p_72%3A2661618011&rnid=2661617011&s=gateway&sr=8-1 just trying to see if I connected this that it wouldn't pop up with "please check disc"

u/FSMCA · 1 pointr/AndroidAuto

> It's slow. I mean SLOW. I saw that it only had 1GB of ram but I didn't really consider that that's barely anything these days. It's RAM is seriously the biggest draw back to it. It takes 20s to boot up, though the radio is instant if that was the last thing you used. Google maps works with it but you'll be halfway to your destination by the time it figures out where you are and where're going.

Wow deal break, thanks for being the guinea pig on this one. I wonder if quad core options might speed things up some, I notice the one you linked is only dual core. I have been looking around and it seems even the high end of chinese ones only come with 1GB RAM.

What do you think of this joying android 5.1 unit? It has backup cam support, quad 1.6ghz, 16GB, and a large list of other features.

How do you connect it to your phone? USB or wifi hot spot? I am getting use to just plugging my phone into the USB in my 2016 chevy work truck with android auto. It would be a bit more of a hassle to have to turn on my hotspot each time.

Can you detach the screen? It seems like it would be a target for car thieves.

Can you attach a USB stick for extra app storage?

Are there any limitations to using the unit while driving? I have noticed android auto won't let me do some stuff unless I am stopped, so kind of annoying when its the passenger operating it but I still need to stop.

Thanks again for the huge review!

u/grrcracker · 8 pointsr/CarAV

I just picked up a Android H/U for a little more than that. It has its quirks, but I am very happy with it. Plus the fit and finish is miles ahead of that render.

u/IcanCwhatUsay · 1 pointr/AndroidAuto

> Wow deal break, thanks for being the guinea pig on this one. I wonder if quad core options might speed things up some, I notice the one you linked is only dual core. I have been looking around and it seems even the high end of chinese ones only come with 1GB RAM.

Perhaps, I went to Bestbuy to play with other 1GB tablets and they all work quickly for the most part and I was doing my best to tax them out with what little I had available (since nobody is signed in on google play, I couldn't download any heavier apps)

> What do you think of this joying android 5.1 unit? It has backup cam support, quad 1.6ghz, 16GB, and a large list of other features.

Looks really the same as these to me:

One

Two

Three

Four

The only true difference between them all is just the OS but again, I'm not sure if I'd even trust that given that mine is supposed to be 4.4 and can't run apps that are compatible with 4.4. Other than that, I'm not really sure what to tell you. It's still a generic Android head unit from China. Without testing it personally, I can't really say if it'll be better or worse than my experience.

> How do you connect it to your phone? USB or wifi hot spot? I am getting use to just plugging my phone into the USB in my 2016 chevy work truck with android auto. It would be a bit more of a hassle to have to turn on my hotspot each time.

Wifi hotspot and bluetooth. Both work well, the bluetooth works very well actually as I was able to hold a number of calls on it. The interface for it is a bit clunky but it works. I had to talk a little louder than I'm used to in order to drown out the road noise but nothing as terrible as some of the reviews I read on Amazon say.

> Can you detach the screen? It seems like it would be a target for car thieves.

I looked for a way but did not find any.

> Can you attach a USB stick for extra app storage?

Micro USB and it won't do you any good for apps. It's strictly for media (music, vids, pictures)

> Are there any limitations to using the unit while driving? I have noticed android auto won't let me do some stuff unless I am stopped, so kind of annoying when its the passenger operating it but I still need to stop.

Not that I found. I didn't have to bypass a Neutral safety switch or anything like I did on my previous head unit.

> Thanks again for the huge review!

Final words and overall after a weeks worth of commuting:

I'm returning it.

The deal breaker as I said before is the speed. I used google maps to plot my trip home, something I do fairly often and can do very quickly with my phone. I gave it ample time to let the GPS find itself before leaving the parking lot. Once it found it, I typed the address in for home and hit go (multiple times because I couldn't tell if it registered or not SO LAGGY!). I made it 1/3 the way home before it started giving directions (20 minutes into my hour long commute). And when it did, they were broken and stuttering (Take......Left Lane...... .....Exit on ... Left). What finally killed it for me was when I got to my exit, it didn't tell me to "take the exit on the right in TWO MILES" until AFTER I made it to the toll booth. I was severely disappointed and angry with it, therefore I'm ripping it out this weekend and it's going back. All I wanted was to find a drop in 'tablet in dash' type solution for under $250 and this certainly was not it. I have a Note 8.0 which I love, best tablet I ever owned (even though it's severely out of date now) and it's FASTER than this BRAND NEW headunit. Unacceptable IMO.

Feel free to ask any other questions between now and Saturday before I rip it out.

u/platnumcy · 4 pointsr/CarAV

I wanted to upgrade my stock head unit to something a little more flashy and customizable. This joying head unit was the right price point and had many of the features that I was looking for.

Product link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M670UWI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pros:

  • Full android with wifi tethering capabilities. This works great with my phone because I have unlimited data. I have tasker auto turn on tethering when my device connects via BT to the head unit.

  • Great Screen with full Android app capability.
  • Quick and responsive
  • NFC compatibility (tap to connect)

    Cons

  • Amp = Meh
  • stock BT app = meh
  • non-standard size. I had to dremmel out the faceplate.
u/fangorn0 · 2 pointsr/nissanfrontier

I just installed the Atoto A6 Pro. It is an Android head unit that will easily connect to the bluetooth OBDII scanner and came with Torque Pro pre-installed. It doesn't have Android Auto or Apple Carplay built in, but there is an adapter that just plugs into a USB port on the head unit to provide this connection. Without the adapter, the head unit is essentially an Android tablet. Sometimes I use Android Auto, and sometimes I just use my phone as a hotspot to allow the head unit to connect to the internet on its own.

That adapter is currently unavailable on Amazon, but there are other adapters on there, like this one.

u/vitalsyntax · 2 pointsr/350z

It was extremely easy. I used this wiring diagram: http://s222.photobucket.com/user/HOTTTiEBOi7/media/g35_pacoem2_to_jvs_kw-avx820_zps17433e60.jpg.html
I had to splice some wires, but everything was plug and play from there. I wouldn't recommend the headunit/adapter combo I got because I had to sand down the adapter a bit to fit it over the head unit.

I have this head unit in my 2006 Off Road... I don't know if I would recommend it to someone who isn't tech savvy though because there is poor support and it does require some tweaking. I was able to keep my steering wheel controls... it really made the rockford system sound great and you just can't beat the functionality (it does a lot of stuff).

u/long_meats · 2 pointsr/civic

I recommend getting the aftermarket head unit first before the subwoofer/amp so you can skip needing a Line-Out Converter.

Tweeters can be installed easily if you order the factory tweeter trim pieces from one of the higher trims. The ones I ordered from this site actually came with factory tweeters already pre-installed in the trim pieces, but you'll need some wiring adapters to connect them to the door speakers.

The parts should be listed as something like this depending on your model:

Garnish Assembly, R Door Mirror XXXXXX (Tweeter) (Deep Black)

Garnish Assembly, L Door Mirror XXXXXX (Tweeter) (Deep Black)

I have a similar head unit and I like it. The features/apps are amazing, but the sound quality is just so-so IMO. It's a lot of fun playing Angry Birds while you're stuck in a long drive thru line or throwing on a movie/Netflix for passengers on a long trip.

The install couldn't be easier. Plug & play with the factory harness, place the wifi/BT antennas above the 2 center heater vents and then start installing/configuring your apps.

The AVIC-W8400NEX is released. Crutchfield and Amazon have it.

Unfortunately, Pioneer confirmed that this is WVGA (800 x 480). I love the idea of wireless AA and wireless CarPlay, but I hate that there are better specs out there at $1200. Pretty torn...

Planning to install this in mine: Kenwood DNX571HD 6.1" 2-Din AV Navigation System with Bluetooth & HD Radio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IDETTWK/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_4GP9ub1ACVM18

My buddy has one in his BRZ and loves it.

It's a retail unit. Went with that one because of the backup camera.

That exact stereo (which I have) is priced at your link $90 more than where I bought it from: https://smile.amazon.com/Quadcore-1024x768-Navigation-Chevrolet-2009-2014/dp/B0784BPXT1/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=cruze+tesla+style+stereo&qid=1569768977&s=gateway&sr=8-3

They also are falsely advertising that the stereo can control the AC/heater, when it does not. It only displays informational stuff about that like the stock display does.

It seems the company sells multiple models at different prices. Do we know which are compatible with certain models of car?

It seems this other model requires android installed in the unit?

I can't tell you what works best for you but I tried the Pi way, and it was all low res monitors. I went to HUR for the higher res. I also had issues with the wifi in it, was horribly slow. Connecting via cable, ended up with my phone slowly losing a charge, even with a hub, good cables and chargers. Crankshaft seems to have stalled, it appears the latest update is from March 2019. Maybe look at OpenAuto? I could not find a good high res screen maybe there are new ones out there recently.

I'm looking for a tablet as well, the best I have found is the Lenovo I have (I ended up rooting it, but that was after I had it working with HUR for months and wanted to try a few other things with it that required root) but no ROMs for it. Or a Samsung. But honestly, I can't justify buying another tablet just to get away from a Lenovo tablet I don't like solely due to the companies practices.

As for carplay, I am not sure if this really works, but I saw it posted somewhere a couple days ago. May be worth it. It seems to get decent reviews. USB Wired Carplay AA. I *think* you could use it with the app they talk about in the description, and not need HUR for AA. But you most likely will be stuck with no charging abilities for either device.

The information missing from the thread linked above is that the dongle mentioned is something like the Carlinkit dongle (there are other dongles, and other places to shop for them): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Carlinkit-Wireless-Navigation-Function-Bluetooth-Android-Car-Radio-black/dp/B07S1M8C34/

Also, be aware that you need to figure out how the RPi should power on and off, to not corrupt the sd card.

This is the one I bought, there is a mounting kit that comes with a wiring harness that I used, that's the trim you are seeing. I also had to buy a amplifier interface because i have the jbl system.

Anyone have experience with both Android Auto and the cheap Android 4.4 head units like these? Pros and cons?
