   This is a bigger debate than getting wax to stick! My ortho did tell me that sugar free gum is allowed but not too much and don’t keep chewing it if it dissolves. Consult your ortho if you’re not sure. I was surprised to find that almost all gum is sugar free. Not all but most. I was searching all over for “SUGAR FREE” specifically and it was right at the register! I might get the 15 pack on Amazon though.

   Honestly I don’t use these that often but once and a while it’s nice to clean every nook and cranny. I have to force myself to floss every day so this isn’t something I use often. They are more gentle than toothpicks but food gets caught in the tiny bristles and it turns into a mess. I picked up a small pack at Target.

My dentist told me to buy a mouthguard online because they're just as effective as custom made ones. There are two types I have experience with, the melty kind and the minimalist kind.

The melty kind you feel more but it's formed to your body so it's not that intrusive, the minimalist kind fits in your mouth better but doesn't conform and I find myself chewing on them more, also some of the reviews say that they woke up to almost swallowing them (I've never had this happen), so decide which one will be best for you. I prefer the minimal ones.

Take hot baths and lay flat, I usually cross my legs or rest my feet on the end of the tub so that my back is flat on the bottom, the heat will help hour muscles relax. I also have a jade facial roller or (slow but much cheaper
) which works especially well when it's been warmed up, I have better luck using that for my facial/jaw massages than just my hands.

They have clove oil, which is a) natural, b) numbing, and c) so legit that even dentists use it. I also second wearing him, and if it's warm enough where you are, maybe getting outside!

I’m a medical massage therapist, so I have some experience with this. The “band around the head” tension headaches are often caused by jaw clenching from/teeth grinding (TMJD), and most people do it in their sleep and/or under stress. The clenching/grinding during sleep can also lead to fatigue because it becomes more difficult to get into REM sleep. Try noticing if you’re clenching during the day.

It may sound strange, but talk to your dentist, let him/her know what you’ve been feeling. If they recommend a bite guard, I usually tell clients to try an OTC one like this one to make sure you’ll keep it in at night before you spend $300-500 on a custom one. If it works, then invest the money.

A properly trained massage therapist may also be able to help. I also had great success with dry needling (from a physical therapist); I could go 3-4 nights without grinding after each treatment, and that’s with fibromyalgia causing severe spasming.

Its called bruxism and its sorta serious; you don't rebuild what gets ground down. I have two guards. A thin one like invisalign but made from a mold of my teeth and a thicker 3mm one, both are upper teeth only. I prefer the thin one because I don't notice it as night but the thicker one will last longer(mileage varies on how much you grind) and it's really not bad compared to the thinner one. You'll notice an immediate increase in how well you sleep too after using it. There are devices that will help stop bruxism as opposed to just protecting the teeth but you need a dentist for that. I was able to get a dentist friend to make them for me so I saved some money there, but it still cost 200 for both as that's what the lab charged. My jackass dentist wanted 600 for one guard, he can go fuck himself.

Personally, these custom guards will probably work but they have to be the made from a mold type and I would suggest the 3mm so you know it'll last. There are some companies on amazon that looked pretty quality when I checked. Oh, one thing. I went the sports mouth guard direction at first, easy fix right? Eh...they are designed to suction to your teeth so they don't fall out which after 8 hours of wearing really hurts your teeth. The custom guards are molded but don't have the pull of sports guards.

I know people say "I'm not gonna spend xyz" on these, but just remember...once you grind down the tooth, there's not a damn thing modern science can do to rebuild that enamel. IF the cheaper ones work, great, but better to invest 100$ now than $5k later on dental work.

Clove oil is a pretty traditional tooth pain relief thing, look into that.

Also, if you're a drinker a hot toddy right before bed will help a lot, too. :)

I discovered these a couple of years ago. They are not heavy duty enough for striking, but perfect for grappling. They stay on while you talk and do not hinder speech or breathing at all. They are also super cheap and comfortable.

I've used powdered denture cleaner—somethin like this, not specifically that one. I pour an amount in consistent with the volume of the instructions then fill with hot, not quite boiling water, and let sit.

My logic is, if you think about the kinds of stains denture cleaner is designed to attack, i.e. food. That matches pretty well with what is likely cooked into the pan. I also endorse Barkeeper's Friend - good stuff. I give the denture cleaner a shot first if I'm looking for a more delicate cleaner before I break out the big guns.

If you really have to suppress, I suggest getting a mouthguard: mine blocks most all of my vocal tics and my spitting tic. Also: put your mental health ahead of suppressing. I'm not sure about you, but I can suppress for long periods of time, but then I am sent into a deep depression. For me, suppressing makes life entirely not worth living. That's the one I use. It's a meltable plasticky wax thing, so it's moldable to your teeth, and there's some extra substance if you need. I molded the extra while it was warm into a knob I can press my lip into to stem other tics. it might mess up the height of your mouth enough to stop the clicking tic? I just realized I don't know where the tongue clicking is happening for you.

You NEED something. Especially if you're getting ear aches etc.

I used this for years. I'm in Canada and it was $30 over the counter for 2 of them. They have slightly different boxing for version of it. I got it at Walmart. Check Walmart and whichever grocery store is popular. Should be in the same aisle as toothpaste near the floss etc.

They say to use them til they're yellowish or something. I personally went as long as 3 months using one. I'd say use one per month.

I loved it more than the boiling versions. Super simple. Don't need to do anything to it. You can just use it.

Then eventually I went to a dentist and got a mouth guard made for $200ish (Canadian)

It just covers the top of my mouth. But it stays fit in place. It's similar to a sports mouth guard. Not meant to prevent grinding. Just to guard your teeth.

More expensive $1,500-2,000 options are what's called Occlusional Splints (sp?) and they're meant to keep the jaw aligned at night to prevent problems.

Anyway that over the counter one worked well for years. And now my night guard is working well. A dentist should be able to make you one for less than $200. Depending where you live etc.

Amazon actually sells a custom guard solution. It's not the cheapest option, but it's dentist-quality and should fit much better than a generic. They send you a package and you send them back a mold of your teeth, which they use to make a custom-fit guard. I haven't purchased one for myself, but the reviews are positive. Link

It's way smaller than any other guard I've seen, and I have a tiny mouth (had to get 8 permanent teeth pulled because there just wasn't room). I've used it for months and it's never fallen out or gotten chewed up at all. I have had a few weird gum-stuck-on-my-teeth dreams though, glad that's not just me....

dont bother with an OTC one that you have to boil or whatever. i spent the 90bucks on this custom made one from amazon and its made the exact same way as it will from your dentist. the only difference? your dentist takes the mold, and sends it off to be made. you can save 500 by making the mold yourself then sending it off.

edit: for what its worth, ive used mine every night for the last year. still works, and in good condition (i brush mine in the morning with whatever toothpaste is leftover on the toothbrush after brushing my teeth). also, there is an option to "upgrade" to the harder, tougher material for an extra 10-15 bucks that the top poster is raving about for which he paid $700. i declined as the soft one seemed to make more sense for me. you can also get a replacement for ~20 bucks through them as well if you do lose it. they keep your mold on file! all of this information is on the included instructions

I agree with most posters here that a nighttime mouth-guard cannot last the destruction that your teeth will do to it.

That being said I clench my teeth at night and wear these which I have found last about three weeks before I need to replace them. It is the best over the counter nighttime guard when you consider price/performance.

They allow your partner to just relax their jaw and let your penis push it apart instead of them trying to hold it open. They can even apply pressure without scraping you and it is quite nice. My wife likes to be fairly aggressively face fucked occasionally and these enable me to really go at it without the worries of teeth.

I am a clencher, not so much a grinder, and have a pretty small mouth. I've tried a handful of the night mouth guards. I finally found this one at Walmart and really like it because it's a very slim profile and very comfortable rather than the huge bulky athletic style guards. It holds my molars apart, where I clench, but it also has little side walls that restrict side-to-side motion for grinders. I can talk with it in pretty well too, it's not very invasive.

They send out the mold, you bite it and send it back, and then they make the guard. She needed one adjustment at first, which they did quickly for free.

I have TMJ issues as well and definitely clench/grind my teeth more when I’m high, which just aggravates it. I’d recommend getting the over-the-counter mouth guards, they’re fairly cheap compared to a custom one and work just as well ($22 compared to $300-400).

The best ones imo are the Placker’s Grind No More . They don’t require boiling or anything, just pop ‘em in before you sleep and the discomfort should slowly start getting better. The package recommends disposing of it every three days but really you can use one for about a week without any issue.

You can get a night guard for $20-$30 at wal-mart in the dental care aisle. Some you boil to soften and then bite them to shape it to your mouth, others have an adjustable width. Mine is an adjustable width set of two for $30 and it lasts me several months each. You can get a custom one from your dentist, my dentist said it's at least $500. There are also online and mail-order custom ones you can get for $180-$300+ depending on the brand and model.

I use nasal pillows (Swift FX or Airfit P10) and never had any luck with the chin strap. I tried a Night Guard for teeth grinding https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002WTCK4Q/ (which I don't do) but it gives me just enough to #1 keep my mouth closed, and #2 keep my tongue in my teeth from having it "blown out" by the pressure and biting it and waking me up.

If you didn't like the chin strap . . . try the mouth guard for a week and see if it helps. (Two years now, works great . . . FOR ME . . .)

Try Placker's Grind No Mores. They look like they couldn't possibly work like a full mouth guard, but they do and they're completely comfortable because of how small they are.

I couldn't stand the full mouth guards and they would immediately alter my bite for hours after I woke up. Was very skeptical of the Plackers, but they do prevent you from grinding your teeth together and they're so inconspicuous that you could even keep them in during the day and still talk, drink, etc.

At the very least it's a very cheap option to try and see if it helps.

You might want to check out one of those temporary filling kits in the meantime if your cavities are painful or sensitive. Poor oral health may have links to other health conditions, so it's good that you're taking it seriously! Has your dad never had a cavity before?? I'm pretty sure eating spicy food just makes it hurt more.

I was actually just talking to my sibling today about whether or not we got all of our vaccines. Our mom definitely believes that vaccines can cause autism, and I'm really grateful that we were all grown before the antivaxx movement gained more traction cuz that stupid shit is seriously spreading.

Also I don't know if your dad wasn't aware of these resources or how tight on money you guys were, but there are usually dental schools who are available for a cheaper fee in exchange for giving their students more practice. That's what I did when I didn't have insurance.

These are the best - cheap, and when they get nasty you just throw them away. They are smaller than normal night guards and I can barely tell they are there.

You might have started grinding your teeth in your sleep. That can cause tension headaches. You can ask your dentist if your teeth show signs of this and then get these gel teeth guards to wear at night to prevent wear on your teeth and help with the headaches.
