She is is mentioned only once I think in the bible, but the author of this book weaves a life story based on how women where treated and lived back then. Dinah lives in a harsh world but learns from the women around her and see the workings of this mysterious entity called God in her world. It is a wonderful read and having to tell you about it reminded me I want it again to reread. Really a great book.

A recipe you say?
Well here's my Aunts amazing artichoke and spinach dip:

1 can artichoke hearts
2 boxes of frozen spinach (or you could get fresh spinach and do the whole cooking it thing but idk how much that takes)
1 entire stick of butter
1 package of cream cheese
1lb cheddar cheese
1 medium sized onion
1/2 cup parm cheese
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup sour cream

First you're going to want to get those onions cooking. Cut the onions into medium/small pieces. Get a frying pan and put it on medium heat. Put the entire stick of butter and let it melt then add the onions and tbsp of sugar. You're going to want to wait until these are completely caramelized. So put a lid on it and let it cook until they are amazingly golden brown and nom.

While that's happening preheat the oven to 425.

Next defrost those two packages of spinach. This takes a minute if you have a 500 year old microwave like I do. Get them completely defrosted until they are warm. Then you need to strain all of the water out. I get a colander and a big bowl and use my hands to squeeze all of the water out over the colander. (This way any pieces that fall are caught.) Squeeze that spinach until every single drop of moisture is gone.

Get those artichoke hearts and cut them into good sized pieces.
Grab your cheddar cheese and grate all of it.
I put my cream cheese in the microwave for about 30 seconds so it softens.
Measure your sour cream and parm cheese.
Now throw everything in a big bowl, all the ingredients.

Now is the really messy part! You could use a spoon or a spatula or something, but I use my hands because it's the easiest. Make sure you wait a minute until the onions aren't scolding hot to do this. Mix it until it seems like everything is mixed thoroughly and then grab whatever pan you want to put it in.

Honestly, I use a bigger sized pan but you can use whatever you want. You could even put it in little souffle cups if you wanted to.

Grab some more of that parm cheese and sprinkle it on the top. Now put it in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until it's golden brown on the top.

The best thing to eat it with is tortilla chips, but you could use absolutely anything.

WARNING: THIS STUFF IS AMAZING AND IS PROBABLY AROUND 9823287 BILLION CALORIES. SO I WOULD recommend NEVER making it unless you have to take it somewhere. If not you may get diabeetus or have a heart attack because once you have some you want all of it. trust me

I'm sorry for your loss. It's very hard to lose a friend. But it really does help to think about all the fun times, and great memories you have with that person. But, if you need someone to talk to, please feel free to send me a PM. :)

A few years ago, I deployed to Afghanistan. Early on in my time there I became really good friends with a guy named DD (his nickname for privacy purposes). He was also a military member. Well, unfortunately he had a longer deployment cycle than me, so I ended up leaving before his unit. And DD, he didn't make it home at all. He was killed when his truck hit an IED. This happened 3 weeks after I got back the US.

Sadness aside, the things that really helped me cope with losing my friend were the memories we had made while we were able to hang out over there. (Which, was actually quite often. We were practically each other's shadow. Us, and our group of mutual friends) Among those memories, one really stands out to me. Well, one day I had to go out on a mission myself, and while I was out I was able to purchase a set of drum sticks for him. So when I got to our base, I handed the drum sticks to him, and he just had this look of a child on Christmas. Like, he couldn't believe that anyone would be so thoughtful to bring him something related to his absolute passion. From then on out, I almost never saw him without those drum sticks in his hands.

As crazy as it sounds, I think he knew that he wasn't going to make it back. There was one day where we sat down to chat, and he just had this real serious look on his face. We start talking, and the topic of those drum sticks come up in conversation. It wasn't until then that I realize how much of an impact just a small random act of kindness towards a friend meant to him. Something I had only done on a whim to make a friend smile. Well, I guess it meant more to him than i'll ever know because he asked me, should he not make it back from overseas, to lay a set of drum sticks on his grave.

That experience really made me realize just how much of an impact you can have with even the smallest gestures that might seem meaningless to you. But, even just thinking about how happy he was to recieve such a simple gift, it really made me smile then and still makes me happy to remember it now.

As for an item, I'd have to say this would be great to have on my desk at work. It would definitely make me smile more haha

So, as someone who is relatively new to DMing (started just over a year ago), here's what I'd suggest to make sure you keep your cost down, while still having figures you can slowly replace over time:

Starting off, you can get a lot of generic "green-army-men" style fantasy figures for relatively cheap.

  They're not very expensive and what they lack in quality they make up for with quantity.

  The next best solution I have for cheap decent figures is for animals. I've been able to find tubes or tubs of a decent selection of cheap, pre-painted figures at just about every Walgreen's or CVS Pharmacy I've been to. I use these guys for animal encounters, pet companions, and they're especially helpful for my druid.
  
  If you can't find them at your local drugstore IRL, there's plenty of selections you can find online.
  
  
• Here's just an example of some of the tubes you can find.

  Now, players understand you can't afford unique figures for every encounter. However, I've noticed that the figures you have stand in for whatever they're fighting can sometimes be distracting, or if you have multiple identical figures it can be confusing knowing which one they're targeting in a battle. A great, cheap solution I've found to this is just using multi-colored generic pawn pieces like from the game "Sorry!". The pieces themselves are so nondescript (other than color) that the players have an easier time projecting the combatant you describe onto them, and the various colors make it easier to track what's going on in a battle, both for the players and DM.
  
  If you can't just salvage an old Sorry game you find lying around you can find packs of the pieces or other generic multi-colored pawns online for very cheap.

  This last suggestion isn't really about where to find cheap figures, but more to address the reason you said you wanted figures in the first place, to "help the immersion".
  
  You may have heard of the website HeroForge before and it's a great tool for D&D players. It allows you to make very customizable figures for your games. Now, the cost of their cheapest figures are still over $30 for a single figure, so definitely not cheap. However, as a DM, I still regularly use it. I use HeroForge to help design notable NPC's or enemies for my campaign, then save the screenshot of them and post the image in our group chat when the character gets introduced. This is very helpful for a lot of reasons: I get a more solid idea of characters that I was designing in my head, it gives the players a visual and helps with the immersion, and when I DO decide to actually order a character (like, for example, a villain or NPC I know will be reoccurring for many sessions) it becomes a MUCH bigger deal and way more intense.
  I also always recommend that PC's at the very least design their figures on HeroForge for the same reasons.

Everyone worries about fighting zombies.

Dumb. You see, when the zombies come, I'm holing up. A few weeks and if they are undead, they'll have rotted themselves to death. If they are fast moving, viral sumbitches, then they'll have likely ended up offing themselves through dehydration or whatever.

In any event, I'll wait them out. But then, I will need to rebuilt and eat.

(Besides, I have my trusty zombie-killing baseball bat, and a bow. Quiet. Efficient.)

This book on Aztec and Inca expansionism. I'm back in school, and my focus is Mesoamerican Studies. Eventual degrees, here I come!

A KitchenAid Mixer Why? I like to cook and bake. My mother has one that I used for years when I was a kid and still living with her. I'm 30 now. I remember she got it when I was like, 5. Over a dozen moves, being abused for holidays making bread and cookies and cakes, being used by my Dad (I swear, he looks at appliances and they break) and it STILL FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY.

I cannot think of a kitchen appliance that would be more useful.

So I stalk /u/stonewalled87 a lot because they are cool like that and very generous. I Really love this from their list because I love Disney and love the little mermaid, I also know they are holding a Funko POP contest in RAoA because they are addicted to them and wanted to share the Funko POP joy with the group. Pretty sure Nintendo wanted people to buy their World of Nintendo toys if they wanted figures, but the only one I have that doesn't feel like a cheap toy is the six inch Metroid. Now granted that thing just feels awesome to hold in your hand, but the rest of WoN has some snags, like inconsistent paint jobs, characters that can't stand up without some kind of support, and the good ones are even harder to find than some amiibo.

I am obsessed with three things. Disney, Marvel, and The Walking Dead... What's great is that disney owns some marvel. I think I buy too much and I can tell when I'm going on about marvel and some doesn't care, but I keep talking more anyway!

I make a pretty delicious coconut tres leche cake (my boyfriend loves coconut). I found the recipe online somewhere back when I was looking for coconut dessert inspiration. The cake is super big though; we've never been able to finish the whole pan. I've made it 3x now for the bf, so it's become a favorite in our household, but I can't take credit for coming up with it.

9 x13 cake
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup coconut flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 tablespoon honey
5 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar (cake)
2 tablespoons sugar (frosting)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
One can (13.5 oz) coconut milk (the good stuff, canned)
One can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 pint heavy whipping cream
Zest from 1 lime
1 cup sweetened shredded coconut

Preheat the oven to 350 and grease the baking dish.
Melt butter and honey together and set aside.
Whisk flour, salt, and baking powder.
Beat eggs, sugar, and vanilla in a separate bowl. Beat in the flour mixture until the batter is just smooth.
Fold in the butter + honey mixture and mix until it is just fully incorporated.
Pour the batter into the pan and bake 25-30 minutes.
While the cake is baking, mix the three milks together.
Spread the coconut out on a baking sheet. Put them in the oven and toast until golden brown, stirring every few minutes. It should take about 9-10 minutes total.
Use a toothpick to poke holes all over the cake.
Now pour the milk over the warm cake slowly. Most of the milk will adsorb into the cake.
Whip the cream, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and lime zest together until stiff peaks form. Spread the cream on the cake, then sprinkle the toasted coconut on top.

I had bought the Neca stands for my Star Wars Black Series figures, originally, but they work OK with some Marvel Legends, but not all, since the peg holes on the MLs can be very shallow (and basically useless).

I got the Obitsu stands mainly because their round bases match the Neca stands, but also because they have a cleaner look than the Bandai Stage Act 4 stands.

The Obitsu stands do take a bit of work to get the balance right, though, and they tend to wobble a bit, but eventually they settle down. Heavier figure like the Thor have a harder time of getting the balance right.

They are pretty flexible when it comes to their configurations, though. The Star Lord and Captain Marvel figures are using the same stand, and are connected by a clip-on piece. I had run out of the flat base pieces, which is why I have them like that. The balance isn't super stable, and I had to use an extra piece to keep it from tipping over, but it seems to work.

• Something to do with my hands when I'm stuck on a problem. At my office, I have juggling balls, while a coworker has a Rubik's cube, and another has a little basketball with a hoop. When we get frustrated or code block, we'll stand up and play with the toy and it helps take our mind off the code. I personally have found that it helps me solve problems.

• Nerf guns (or anything from the ThinkGeek Cube Warfare section)

Now that that's out of the way.... there's an apartment complex that my husband and I really want to move to. (We need to move from our current one) What I really wanted for Christmas was for them to call us back and say that we are approved. But... there were some complications, so we may not know until Monday or later. And at that, we may have to pay like a thousand dollars extra for security deposit. Which we don't have... so we'd be asking family for loans and praying that we can raise enough money.

After that, I wanted a foam topper for our bed, a crazy expensive Wacom Cintiq... and blurays of "Legend" and/or "Return to Oz". Actually... I thought that the last two were gotten for me already, but... sadly, no.

Nice derpy dog ya got there!! ;-D Here's my little one. His name is Poof Noodle He's new. I've only had him for about 3 weeks now. He was one of my top 2 Christmas presents!! My mother in law paid the $200 adoption fee at the rescue shelter for me and I couldn't be happier. He's SOOOOO sweet... but a little bit anxious and barky. My other really awesome Christmas present was my husbands siblings surprising us by driving hundreds of miles to see us!! We thought we were going to have to spend Christmas alone!

PRO TIP ... don't get into Funkos. THEY WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE!! j/k they're rad. I see others have answered already on that point, so I'll leave you in their capable hands. I will add that there are different types of Funkos. There are the "regular" funkos, and the Funko "POP!" figurines, which are chibi-fied! Adventure Time is family friendly, right? Because I've been eyeing this Gunter Pop! for awhile.

As for recipes, around this time of year my mom makes these really delicious mini chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese filling that we always called "black and whites". M.U.S.C.L.E. Men, Hot Wheels, and LEGO. I was never a collector in the sense that I would put these things on a pedestal and look at them from afar though; I would play with them big time! I even took the M.U.S.C.L.E. Men and melted mighty machines to their feet (after snagging my mom's lighter).

Now I buy these toys for my boys (because they still make me extremely happy!). I had to find the M.U.S.C.L.E. Men on ebay, but they have a ton of them and love playing with them. Their collections of LEGO's and Hot Wheels are growing too. I play with them all the time and we come up with all sorts of make believe worlds with the toys - it's a blast :).

They're made for 1:18 figures, and come with two pegs and usually one works. Sometimes I've had to use a blow dryer to heat the foot first to get the peg to fit, but either way, it works. Well there is miniatures like what Reaper makes that are the standard but alot of people have had luck with finding what is suppose to be like kids toys miniatures and using them as they're exactly getting used in anything that might make them get crushed or broken allowing them to be used and are cheap enough to buy and are usually in bulk.

ebay is a very popular for lots but you don't just get to pick and choose. I recommend looking through walmart or target through the kids isle for like a bucket of miniatures.

This is what i am talking about, simple knight minis for about 7 bucks but you get a bunch.

I love these guys. For 8 bucks plus change you get 36 of them. They are about the right size for a standard gaming mat. They are good for generic enemies, but also have enough variety to differentiate them from each other. Also, half are black and half are grey, which is useful. I like to use one color for mooks and the other color for either allies or special enemies.

For larger enemies my friend use a bunch of the laminate tile samples that she had gotten from Home Depot and glued pictures to them. I'd imagine the same thing could easily be done with cardstock or cardboard.

I do have some actual mini, but we reserve them for player characters.

I didn't really get anything geeky, but I got a $25 GameStop gift card that I'll probably put toward Bravely Default, since I've got pretty much all the Wii U games I could want right now. I bought a few Steam games yesterday as well. Chief among them was XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which I've been dying to play, but my laptop hates it. Will try it on the desktop.

I do have a Visa gift card from my parents with about $60 left on it and I am considering either the Samus Figma or the Wind Waker Link Nendoroid. I really want Link but I feel like I have too many Links, as I also have the Link Figma and the Link amiibo and I preordered the Toon Link amiibo. But so cute! Gah, I am torn.

I recently started a campaign and bought a sack of cheap, plastic minis to get our group started. Here's what I found on Amazon: 36 pieces for $7 and they fit my 1"x1" grid maps very well. Link

These are just knights of varying types, but there's enough there for my four PCs (bows for rangers, swords for melee types) and they can tell them apart.

In a pinch they make good stand-ins for monsters too. If you trawl through Amazon, there's plenty of "50 piece plastic skeletons" lots for under $10. They are the quality of little green army men, but they do the job well at a bargain-basement price.

It's super simple to make! The bobble head figure is about $9 on amazon. Cut out the plastic in the top of the head and removed the spring mechanism from the bottom. Used the cut-out from the top to plug the hole in the bottom and secured it all with hot glue. Then just bought a $2 miniature succulent plant from the grocery store and transferred it in. The plant looked like this one.

They're OK. The pegs are slightly too large for Black Series figures, and since the peg hole size varies they work better with some than others. Generally I only need them for the female figures since their feet are so tiny. Leia doesn't need a stand because she actually has big enough feet in this costume, plus her boots don't have high heels on them (Ahsoka, I'm looking at you - this is a design feature I do not understand because I cannot imagine that Ahsoka the character would ever in a million years wear heels, but whatever).

I don't know why Jyn stands well - maybe because she's knock-kneed. :)

You can get these style ones in different brands (the one I linked to is BBTS), and NECA also make good base only ones here. Just a note about the NECA ones, they only work with figures that have normal size feet. Most of the Marvel Legends should be fine.

I never liked figures til my friend got me one and as you can see it has become a bit of a problem.. I also have a few figures from other shows... They just look so good in front of their accompanying manga/Light novels

no they didnt come with stands, unfortunately. i bought a pack of these with them.

theyre good enough. you can set the figures in some cool poses, but nothing extreme. 7 out of 11.

theres only one foot hole on each stand though, even though the packaging makes it look like theres 3. its off to the side, but the base is wide enough where they dont lose balance at all.

I worked in a Ford service center,and I was asked by a supervisor to pull in a customers truck. He didn't realize that it was a cargo truck, which wouldn't fit into the garage. Me being new at the job didn't know that there is a clearance for tall trucks, and some don't fit into the service bay. I pulled it in and Crash!!! Ripped the top of the truck back like a can of sardines. Broke a water line that was in the ceiling, flooding the truck and the service bay. To make matters worse the customer saw it all happen. It was so humiliating.

I have those. They are fairly good, but as stated by others, not all figures fit. I use museum putty or tak (the clear or white variety) and that holds feet which pegs do not fit to these bases if you have them weight balanced in not to extreme of a pose to where they would fall over.

My favorite historical fact would have to be all of the similarities between Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. This is what I do. I have a lot of Harry Potter keychain figures because the scale works better (Dobby, Nifflers, Picket, etc) and museum putty keeps the wobblier ones standing. Marvel key chains are especially difficult because of the bobble head. My classic Ant-Man pop stands up on his own but The Wasp has tiny little needle legs and a GIANT HEAD so I ended up super-gluing her to an extra stand.

How is the quality? I'm sure you can't position it like a figma but is it at least decent?

These are the stands I was talking about, if you do decide to buy these stands and they don’t work you can try the boiling water method which is when you boil water and dip in the part of which you want to fix on your pop and you wait a couple seconds for it to soften and then take it out mold it to the pose that you want and place it in ice cold water and that’s should do it.

I mailed Funko Pop back in 2014 because they were selling their "Vinyl Figure" as "Chiffre de Vinyle" in French, which basically means "Vinyl Number." It's a homophone translation error. They still have the old pictures up on Amazon.
