  2. Using a pseudonym for her privacy. Farrah Higgins.
Background: Farrah is one of the closest, if not the closest, friends I’ve ever had. She was my choir teacher in high school and much older than I am. I’ve always been rather mature for my age, so I get along better with older people. Well, we clicked and after I graduated we became super close. As you’ll soon figure out, I loved her in more ways than one.

Reason: I don’t even think I have the words to properly describe how grateful I am that she is my friend, how much love I have for her, or just how much I admire her. I think she is absolutely amazing. I could gush on for hours about how amazing I think she is. She is incredibly friendly and loving. It is a blessing to know that God saw fit to create people like her and allow me to be blessed by her presence and faith. I think she is completely insane, well, maybe not completely (that’s reserved for me) but she’s up there.

She was there for me, although not in the flesh, my first semester as a freshman in college. I had no friends and was incredibly lonely. We texted, talked, and/or messaged daily. Looking forward to talking with her is what got me through the day. She gave me new eyes to look through and a different perspective. I believe she helped me grow a lot as a person, challenging me to better myself and ask questions. She understands me better than anyone I’ve ever met. I could look at her and not say a word and she’d know what I was feeling and, if necessary, how to comfort me.

I think she’s beautiful, externally and internally beautiful. External: I love her eyes. (Then again, that is probably because I have always been an eye person.) They are so expressive and so full of love. I love the way her lips pucker when she says and describes something she thinks is ‘beautiful’. I find it adorable. I love her smile. When she smiles, it seems as if all is right with the world. I love her passion for life and her passion for living it. I love her passion for God; it is inspiring and gives me faith. I love her passion for passion; it frightens and excites me. I love how humble she is. As often as people (and I) tell her that she is amazing, she never lets it go to her head. I love her sense of humor. I love how she’s not afraid to make a joke that is ‘wrong’ by every standard. I love how she is so unafraid to speak her mind. It’s so refreshing.

Now to clear up any… issues. I was over 18 when I met her, so don’t fear of some illegal activity or whatever it is people jump to conclusions about. Secondly, although the love is shared, the romantic love is not and mine goes unrequited. We are still friends to this day although from a greater distance due to life taking us in different directions.

A bit of a novel, but I hope you find this helpful, OP.

First, to comment on what happened on your call with Microsoft: maybe it's possible you just got one of the really bad reps? But then again, they got a supervisor involved and they still wouldn't just fix the situation for you? Especially seeing as you hadn't even used your subscription... that is pretty ridiculous. Well, I'm confident that you'll find the PlayStation experience an enjoyable one.

-----

Honestly, this is probably the best time to try out a PS3. We're closing out on this generation of consoles and some of the best games of the last few years have been PlayStation exclusives. Especially if you've been using an Xbox 360 this whole time, you're about ready to meet a whole new world of incredible titles.

Quick edit: Just wanted to clarify... I'm including links to Amazon just as an easy way for you to learn more about individual titles. But just as /u/undeadwolfy mentioned:

>You can buy most of these pre-owned at a decent price. Some are digital so they're not much cheaper but still great.

So first and foremost, I highly recommend anything by Naughty Dog -- they are arguably the best developer in the entire industry right now. They released four titles on the PS3: Uncharted 1, 2 & 3 (each game is a must-play), and the absolute masterpiece that is The Last of Us. You've probably heard plenty of praise for The Last of Us (and it is well deserved), but I would recommend saving the best for last. It's such an awesome game that, after completing it, nothing else I played interested me anymore. It took like a month to get back into the gaming groove, so I'd save that 'til after you beat the Uncharted trilogy. It's that good.

Aside from that, there are some other great titles I'd highly recommend. I don't know what kind of games you're into, so I'll just list all those that I've liked, personally:

  • Metal Gear Solid saga (MGS 1-3 were released on PS1 & PS2, but they've since been rereleased in HD for PS3, alongside MGS 4).

  • Heavy Rain (A very story driven game, where the choices you make can drastically affect the storyline. Plus... boobs.)

  • Beyond Two Souls (Brand new, just came out. Similar to Heavy Rain in its execution -- story driven.)

  • God of War trilogy (Awesome, mature platformer. The first two games were for PS2, but were released in HD alongside GOW3 on PS3. Also has boobs.)

  • Little Big Planet 1 or 2 (A great couch multiplayer side scroller. Lots of fun, more of a kids game... or a game to play with drunk adults.)

  • Infamous 1 & 2 (An interactive comic book. An "open world" platformer that lets you shoot lightning from your hands. Has a cool element where you can choose to be good or evil.)

Not to mention plenty of other great exclusives (Rachet & Clank series, Resistance trilogy, Valkyria Chronicles and more) and the tons of PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation Store for cheap, playable on your PS3 if you want to go old school. (Not to mention the many PS2 games being rereleased for PS3 in HD glory... I'd recommend Shadow of the Colossus, which happens to be free for PlayStation Plus members this month... hint hint.) Of course, all the multiplatform games are also here (Battlefield, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc.).

  • Oh, did I mention the PS3's online multiplayer is free?
  • And if you've got Netflix, you don't need to pay Sony a cent to watch it (unlike a certain other console's "Gold" requirement).

That said, however, if you really want to jump in the game, PlayStation Plus is worth every penny -- a ton of free games each month (and we're talking major titles, in addition to a handful of indies), plus a large variety of other system-enhancing features and discounts. And if you're looking at getting a PS4, getting PS+ is a no-brainer. For one, it is required for online multiplayer on the PS4 (no such requirement on the PS3, but hey, they've got to make their money somehow). But what's awesome is that one PS+ account will work across both the PS3 & PS4, and enable you to get free games for each console for as long as you are a subscriber, with free games on the PS4 appearing on day one.

Welcome to the new age. Now cue up some Imagine Dragons and get ready for a freaking awesome experience. We're glad to have you.

You said FPS in comment and HZ in another which is why I specified it. While a 120hz monitor is nice, I brought it up because the jump from 60 - 120 fps in games is not enough to warrant any sort of noting on. Seriously. You are just being over the top at that point. I've seen the comparisons. It is nothing that you would be able to focus on unless you were having to keep a direct comparison up. If you are really focused on any game then a constant 30 frames would seriously be enough unless you have never actually been immersed before. 60 fps is nice eye candy but if you can't live without it then you are missing out on many console exclusives or the experience behind an older game with a classic crt and official controller.

As far as deals go, I see humble bundles recycling quite a few of the games that I actually want or steam sales headlining games I already own from the last sale. New titles don't go on sale for at least a few months, or at least most worthy ones don't. Most are for games I have no interest in or games that have been out long enough for me to have them already, and yes just a few dollars spend on weekly bundles easily adds up. It's why I don't buy anything until I had already have them on my want list. I have been slowly working through my backlog and have found immense pleasure ticking them off one by one and in the time I've been playing them there are plenty of recycled deals going around in case I missed one for a game I absolutely wanted to play. I am not a well-off man by any means and I look hard and well into how things add up since my hobbies deal with finances a lot. In terms of sales, I actually follow both markets and see the deals in both of them. I'm doubtful you focus on the console side nearly as much if at all but there are more than enough deals that would satisfy any gamer. You treat console gaming like its immensely more expensive but I've done it since I was a child with little to almost no allowance. If you really want to get technical about possibilities, I usually just share games with friends and we each tend to to only buy around 10-12 completely brand new games yearly and share them which lets us all play a ton of different brand new fully priced games. Between 3 people that is 30-36 games right there that are fullly fledged and that we are genuinely interested in playing. This isn't even talking about older games that are now cheap and fun to collect (enough to the point where collecting them has become a hobby just in itself). If you want to push it even further we could all just pay for a service like gamefly or PS+ (a set of amazing games that are offered monthly along with discounts on all the other psn titles). That is more than enough games to keep me occupied for a while and I'm not losing out just because I don't have 100 more useless games that I don't care to play at that point.

When you tally up the cost for your pc, the monitor, the speakers, the keyboard, and the mouse, it's upfront costs are immensely more than a console that can play on most tvs. Not to mention upgrading your graphics card every two years once you are not getting the same performance you are boasting about now will put a dent in your wallet compared to a new console every 7 or so years. I tend not to even buy new consoles until well into their life so I can buy great games that have been price reduced by then. If you want to say that a pc offers non gaming goods as well then I could just throw $250 towards a laptop that could easily do all the non-gaming needs. Even if you take all the deals you can for games compared to brand new consoles games, it still takes a while before the differences level in the favor of pc. Hell, a brand new ps4 is $400 and if you buy 5 new games at $60, that is $700, not to mention the bundle deals that include a year of ps+. $700 for a pc will get you a mid to barely upper end tier pc and that still hasn't taken a monitor, speaker, keyboard and mouse into consideration. If you just suddenly decide to grab a ps3 now, its $250 for a bundle with 1 year of ps+.

In the end, there are cons and pros to both sides. I love just playing games in general so I don't really care about maxing the framerate I won't even notice ten seconds in. I play games on computer as well, so I know how these things are tempting but in the end I have seen way too many people complaining on hardware and specs and getting more hyped by the idea of a new rig istead of just enjoying the game. It's why I love consoles. In fact I might just go play the original Legend of Zelda on an NES for kicks right now. My friend spent around 50 bucks and got it along with the console and 5 other games on ebay and lent it to me for a bit. Just please don't get so hyped up into specs that you forget about the game. If you really want to enjoy your 3ds instead of complaining about it, then save up a little and buy a great game. I believe you said you have 500 games or so on steam so I think you'll manage with skipping a few bundles.

If you want a few recommendations, I have just started playing Fire Emblem (my 3ds is right in front of me even) and it's really fun if you like a challenge. Animal Crossing will seriously burn your hours away and is a great value as gameplay is based around simple and relaxing day to day play. Not to mention it has a great community behind it so feel free to join in on the fun at /r/animalcrossing. If you ever just needed one game to tie you to your 3ds grab Animal Crossing. I always tell people that AC and FE are two games that more than warrant owning a 3ds. It's not that hard to get a little collection of fun games if you save up a little.

First thing's first. Pay $50 for PS Plus. You'll get free games every month. This month, you'll be getting Deadly Premonition and the Hitman HD Collection, which I've heard great things about despite not playing it myself.

The Last of Us and the Uncharted Trilogy are the best games hands-down. Those are probably the best games I have ever played so I implore you to play through those first.

You should definitely check out Assassin's Creed: Ezio Trilogy. You should probably play the original Assassin's Creed first, because it will make your enjoyment of Revelations that much sweeter, but the Ezio Trilogy is definitely the best part of the series.

Infamous is excellent. I just finished the game for the first time and will be playing through it again. I haven't played Infamous 2, but I've heard good things about it as well.

Demon's Souls is another fantastic game. It's pretty difficult though. I think it's best played as a buffer while you're playing another game. Like, if you're sick of running around Rome for a while in Assassin's Creed, take a break, do some of your Demon's Souls levels, and go back to AC. It definitely requires some patience.

The Batman Arkham Trilogy is also great. Some people have found a habit of shitting on Origins, but it's still a great game despite not being the best of the 3. You could play it first and then experience the others in both quality and chronological order.

The whole Grand Theft Auto series is fantastic. I've played them all and enjoyed every single one. It's probably my favorite series of all time. You can find GTA3, GTA4, GTA5, Vice City, Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories all on PSN. San Andreas was removed because a remastered release is coming out soon. I promise, you'll enjoy them all!

I bought the Prince of Persia HD Trilogy and Splinter Cell HD Trilogy online and don't regret them. They are originally PS2 games, but the remakes are fantastic. They're pretty cheap so I recommend playing through them if you want. Ico HD, Shadow of the Colossus HD are also some really good remakes.

I did not personally enjoy Watch Dogs, Deadpool or Dante's Inferno. I really wouldn't recommend them. I've played most WWE games, and while I haven't tried WWE 2K15, most people agree that it's inferior to 2K14, since it's just a butchered version of the PS4 release. If you enjoy it good for you, but I won't be playing it until I get a PS4.

Let's see, what else... I've never played the Metal Gear Solid games, but I've always wanted to. Those sound like great games if you have the time. God of War Saga is a collection of 5 great games. I haven't played the 6th installment yet, but it's on my list as well.

Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire are some great games to check out as well. I also personally enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man, Prince of Persia and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but they've all gotten lukewarm reviews. It really depends on taste.

u/Rhonder · 6 pointsr/Disgaea

On the whole I found 5 (ps4 so far, copy of 5 switch might be coming tomorrow though, or tuesday if not. Super excite!) to be much better than 4, but I'll go through the points:

> Which has the most content including DLC?

Unsure exactly, as I have yet to get 4 on the Vita and dislike buying the DLC for the console versions. It's worth noting that 5 Complete (as well as all of the handheld versions of the games, barring 2 kind of) comes with the DLC packaged in where if you were to get the console version of 4 it doesn't include any of it. It's not particularly cheap to buy either (although if you can get the base game for ~$10 that's pretty much balanced out lol). I believe the base campaign is a little longer in 5 than 4. Post games will tend to be equalish length.

> Is it worth playing D4 just for the story?

This I feel isn't exclusive to just 4, even though 5 is the best mechanically speaking, I would argue that if you end up enjoying the series it would be worth playing any/all of them for their stories. especially for as cheap as you can get them now xD One thing I would look into since you have a PS3 is: This collection. A lot of game for the cost xD That said, I wouldn't delve into the post game of the older entries. Things have gotten much more manageable as time has gone on, like ease of grinding and such.

> If I play D4, will I still be interested in D5, or is it alot of the same?

I would think so. As a fan of the series I'm always looking forward to the next entries (I played them in the order 1 -> 3 -> 4 -> 2 -> 5). This ties back into the fact that they all have fun stories and so are very different games in that regard. 4 and 5 specifically is kind of tough because the stories/character motivations are kind of similar-ish, but they're definitely different enough to be unique.

> Did they remove any features/gameplay mechanics that were present in D4, and not in D5?

Not that I can think of. There were game-specific features taken out of 2 going into 3, and 3 going into 4. I suppose technically 5 uses the "old style" weapon mastery system, where characters have profficiencies for different weapons, and you can equip them with anything but having a better proficiency levels it up faster which leads to new skills faster and more damage faster. In 3/4 they changed it to a system where each char just had a set of weapons they could use/learn skills in. You could equip them with other weapons, but they couldn't use the skills from them. You /could/ fix that by utilizing various systems but it was somewhat less ideal that the current one where anyone can use anything easily. So the good one's back~

> Should I even start as a newb with D4? Other title suggestions? I own a PC(Steam)/PS3/Switch, so I have access to all the Disgaea titles.

I think you're fine starting anywhere anyways. I would recommend Disgaea 5 for the best gameplay experience, but I also don't think it has one of the better stories the series has to offer. Really it depends on how jarring you find going backwards, gameplay-wise. If that's not a big deal to you, I'd recommend 5 to get introduced to the series, then play other ones that seem interesting to you. But if you can only go forwards, definitely at least play disgaea 1 on PC or PS3 (I think you can get in PS3, maybe not). It's definitely a classic and should be experienced. Then you could branch out to whichever games you liked. 3's my personal fave, cast/story wise, school theme. 2 has a pretty good story, but some weaker side characters. 4 is something of a political comedy at first and has some of the more humorous overall casts in the series. 5 I like the main chars a lot, but overall narrative not as much. D1 also has a sequel, DD2 (it's in that collection I linked) that should probably be played only after D1. I've not played it yet so I don't know how vital playing D1 first is, but it's a direct sequel so... yeah xD

Mmmmm this contest makes me drool a little. I love video games.

I would love Beyond Two Souls for the PS3. It looks beautiful and my friends have loved it and have made me reeeeeally want to play it!

For the Xbox360 I would love Borderlands 2 Game of the Year because my SO and I love playing Borderlands together and while we have played 2 we really want to play the all of the DLC together. :3 For valentines day I even altered nerf guns to look like guns from Borderlands.

For the DS I would love Tingles Rosy Rupeeland because I am crazy about Zelda and this game totally cracks me up as a spin off. :P

As for a card game I would love Cthulhu Fluxx because my friends and I have game nights and a couple of them have Fluxx so we are trying to get a bunch of different versions of Fluxx.

Wildcard- Gamecube, Metroid Prime 2 because I have the rest of the series, but still need #2 O.O Definitely go for a used one though. XD

Pretty much anything is fine used by me!

Thanks so much for this contest! I had a lot of fun kind of going through everything.

My favorite game is... Zelda Ocarina of Time because it was one of my early games and that and Majora's Mask got me hooked onto the video game world.

u/Sipricy · 2 pointsr/KingdomHearts

There have been a lot of Kingdom Hearts games that have come out since Kingdom Hearts 1 came out in 2002. There's been the first game, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts Coded, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A fragmentary passage.

The collections are the newest versions of these games. Kingdom Hearts 1.5, Kingdom Hearts 2.5, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 are the collections. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 is just both of those two collections on a single disc, but made for the PS4 rather than the PS3.

The cheapest way to get these games is either to get 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 used, or to buy The Story So Far, which is a digital version of all of the collections, which include all of the games so far. It's only $40, and you get six games and three movies (358/2 Days, Re:Coded, and X: Back Cover are all movies). All in One is exactly like The Story So Far, but also includes Kingdom Hearts 3. It's $100, so you don't save any money by getting All in One rather than The Story So Far.

My whole point being that you shouldn't pay more than $40 USD for all of the games prior to Kingdom Hearts 3.

u/amich · 2 pointsr/PS3

If you want PS+ with it, absolutely. And you should, since PS+ rotates through some of the best games in the PS3's huge back catalog and offers them for free. I've also found it great for games I wouldn't normally risk the money on that I've turned out to love.

Since you get more out of PS+ the longer you have it, if it interests you, now is the time to get it. The free games you will get between now and any possible PS3 price drop will more than cover the difference.

If you're not interested in PS+, then it comes down to whether it's worth it to you personally to wait for a few months to save $50-100.

I would suggest one of these models, depending on which games interest you. Having a 500gb drive is a big advantage to these models, and the other bundle game (Uncharted 3) has a smaller hard drive... and the game is free on PS+ right now.

If you take the plunge, welcome to the PC + Console lifestyle! I think you'll enjoy your broadened horizons as much as I did :)

With your n64 the best it can do without a mod is Svideo. Nintendo branded cables are priced more as a collectors item. Thefoo sells an excellent version

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173606272632

You can step it up and rgb mod your n64. The hottest board even has a deblur function that helps clean up the image. The n64 in my experience does not scale nearly as well as other systems. Stick to Svideo unless you really love the system and will be putting a lot of time into it.

Psx and ps2 are much more simple. They both support rgb without a mod. Stick to YPbPr (component) on the ps2. It's nearly as good as rgb and much easier to get working. Get hd retrovisions ps2 cable. It's new and as good or better than the official cables. Official will run you as much or more and be used.

HD Retrovision PlayStation 2 (PS2) PlayStation 3 (PS3) Premium YPbPr Component Video Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H3F94ZN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_c7L1BbSF0NXZ0

As for the psx there are several sites making that cable. Get a psx rgb scart cable. Make sure you get euro scart and the proper adapter to plug into your framemeister.

Good luck! Feel free to ask questions

You're in luck, in light of the new console generation most the greatest hits available for the PS3 are available for half their original price or less some even available in combo packs.

• Any title from the Ratchet and Clank series. The original trilogy is available on one disk on amazon with remastered HD graphics for $19 as well as All 4 one for ten bucks.

u/eileensariot · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I love games! My favorite game is Settlers of Catan right now. I think. Although my guilty pleasure is the sims. shhhhh

I am listing a game from each category that I have on my WL.

  • PS3 game - I really like RPGs. I play fable a lot on xbox360, and this is a game I hear I will like.

  • xbox 360
  • another game I hear I will like if I like Fable.

  • card game - super fun card game that I can play with my hubs, or people who actually come over!

  • PC/MAC - guilty pleasure. ;)

    Thank you for the contest!
u/BatmanHimself · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Can't decide, so here are my options! Any of those will be great!

  • PS3: I'd like little big planet 2. I have a young cousin who sometimes comes over and likes to play with me, but I only have "adult" games, so we have to play the demo over and over until she's tired(a.k.a. never).

  • 3DS: Animal Crossing! I keep everyone saying how cool it is, but the only game I got is pokémon.

  • And last but not least... I've been dying to get the Borderlands 2 season pass! I have the physical media for ps3 but Brazilian banks blocked PSN purchases, so my option is the digital code from Amazon. I can't add it to my wishlist because it's a digital code, but there's it ^^^wink ^^^wink

>If your TV has component as well as RCA, you could buy one of these cables that you can plug into both the component and composite inputs (If both these inputs do not share a sound input, you'll need A 2-pack of these splitters to make it work)
>

I have a component cable (one which has red, green and blue YPbPr connectors and the yellow analog video in too) . My new tv doesn't have a component (or composite or scart) in though, so i need an hdmi converter.

Maybe I shouldn't have made a tldr that leaves this out, because i said so above ;)

>Then, depending on if you're playing a PS1 or PS2 game, you can just change the input on your TV accordingly between component and AV. Afaik this is the most elegant solution that allows you to enjoy the clarity of component video in PS2 games.

I don't think think having to use yellow video in for psx games is satisfactory when they were working with composite before. I'll try the upscaler.

>EDIT: If you're just getting into PS1 games on the PS2 you should also know you need a PS1 memory card to save your game.

I'm not just getting into them. I've played them on my ps2 for 18 years. :) Most of the time through composite (YPbPr), which my old tv supported (and all psx games worked like that).

>PS2 memory cards inexplicably do not get recognized by the game.

They have a different data format so (though you could argue they could have made so you can put a 128KB psx save file onto a ps2 memory card).

But thanks anyway

u/Serapius · 1 pointr/PS3

Just to note, assuming you mean this triple pack, the collection consists of Disgaea 3, Disgaea 4, and Disgaea D2. Most of the Disgaea games are separate and self-contained with a few references and cameos by characters from other games, but D2 is a true sequel to the original Disgaea. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of that.

That being said, the Triple Pack is a great deal. It really comes down to whether the portability and DLC matter to you. If you plan on getting all of the DLC on the PS3 versions, you'll spend quite a pretty penny, while all of this DLC and a few minor additions come with the Vita versions. I just looked at the PSN page for Disgaea 3 and the complete DLC set costs $50. Of course, most of that DLC is just extra characters, but several of them have their own few battles worth of a story added as well.

Even without the DLC, all of the Disgaea games offer almost limitless playability because of the insanely high level caps, upgrading weapons though Item World, and New Game Plus.

It's mostly depending upon whether or not you care about the portability of the Vita versions and whether all of the DLC characters are worth it in your opinion. I love the fact that I can carry it around and battle as I'm waiting around somewhere, while also retaining the ability to play it on my TV when I get home with my PSTV.

EDIT: Just looked at the D2 and Disgaea 4 DLC. The D2 DLC totals around $60, and I didn't even want to count how much the Disgaea 4 DLC added up to. It was likely well over $75.

Dat is a nice canvas. I mean a really nice Canvas. 6 yards?! You could literally paint allll the the things!

Both of these are on my randoms list:

  • My current high priority item is the fitbit flex! I had been given a Force without the charger which was cool for a few days until it died and they no longer sell them anymore. I had really been wanting one for a while. Give me that little extra motivation to be more active.

  • Also on my random list is the PS Move Controller which also goes along with the more active bit. I figure if I am going to play games then I want to be active while doing so. Some games require the second controller, such as this one.

From my Doctor Who list is this badass FOB watch. Why do I want it? Because it is a badass FOB watch lol.

Excellent contes... question to ask! Thanks for doing so!

I don't think you could regret getting a PS3™ system right now, you'll have a great catalog of games available and since PS4™ isn't backwards compatible this is the only way you'll enjoy all those amazing games any time soon.

First of all go here and create your account, then get this PS3 - $200 or this PS3 - $279, and this PlayStation®Plus - $49.99/1 Year ($39.99 with Free BestBuy Reward Zone Gamers Club).

PlayStation®Plus gives you:

  • PlayStation®Plus Instant Game Collection

  • Discounts up to 75% off

  • Cloud Storage to back-up your Game Saves and access them on any PS3™ system

  • Automatic Software Updates and Game Downloads

  • Exclusive Access to try out new Demos and Beta Trials

  • PS4™ Online Mutiplayer

  • One PlayStation®Plus Membership works across PS4™, PS3™ and PSVita™ systems. Your PSN Account can be activated on up to (2) PS3™ and (2) PSP®/PSVita™ systems.

Check the PlayStation®Plus Instant Game Collection here: North America or Europe. The European PlayStation®Plus is more expensive (around $10 more), while EU gets a better Instant Game Collection, but NA gets much better discounts.

You have to "purchase" (for $0.00) the games to add them to your PlayStation®Plus Instant Game Collection when they're available, you can do it on your PC via SEN Store or on your PS3™ via PSN Store.

The games you purchased for free will remain forever on your Instant Game Collection and you'll be able to re-download them as many times as you want, however you can only access your Instant Game Collection while your PlayStation®Plus Membership is active.

Remember to "purchase" even the ones you're not interested now or the PSVita™ ones, you never know when you'll get your hands on one.

Any content you pay money for, even with PlayStation®Plus Discounts, will be yours forever to keep and access regardless of the state of your PlayStation®Plus Membership. Free Avatars and Themes are also yours to keep and access regardless of the state of your PlayStation®Plus Membership.

I personally like this one. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06XB6FRPR/ref=twister_B07FZ1X6CS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Admittedly the PowerA is a bit better with dead zones, but most of what I play isn't that precision-oriented. I think this one is a little more comfortable to hold than the PowerA and the turbo function is nice if you want it. It's wired, but the wire is generously long, and it has force feedback unlike the wired PowerA.

Not to knock the PowerA pad either - it's a genuinely good controller. I see it recommended a lot, though, so I wanted to offer up another suggestion as well. You'd do just fine with either one, or maybe get one of each.

u/otis91 · 2 pointsr/GameDeals

I've just recently got into the series (and love every bit of it) so I'll add my opinion.

First of all, definitely buy the HD collection now that it's on sale. It has an incredible amount of content - I've spent approx. 60 hours going through the games for the first time.

However, the HD collection misses the first MGS from 1998. It is available on PSN for approx. $10 and I'd recommend you to get it as well. However - speaking from my experience 5 months ago - beware. The game is old, the controls are hard to get used to, boss fights are tough and some parts can be extremely frustrating. I played on Normal difficulty and it took me about 25 hours to beat. I wanted to quit, watch a walkthrough and skip the rest of the game, several times. But I managed to beat it and it felt great. In the end, I regret nothing. It was incredibly satisfying experience, the story was fantastic and I probably wouldn't enjoy the later games as much had I skipped the first MGS. And the music.... ah, that's something you'll never ever forget.

Still, if you decide to skip it - at least watch it as a movie on YT.

When it comes to MGS4, you should have plenty of time to grab it later on. It's one of the "Greatest Hits" games (similar to Platinum on PS2 but with far nicer packaging in red) and its quite cheap - I got a new one in store for 15 €. Amazon has it for $16.49.

Last but not least, play the games in their release order, i.e.:

  1. MGS (PSN)
  2. MGS 2 (HD Collection)
  3. MGS 3 (HD Collection)
  4. MGS 4 (Retail only)
  5. MGS: PW (HD Collection)

I've finished main story of Peace Walker a few days ago and I already know I'm going to buy PS4 because of MGS V. I fell in love with the series.

Check ebay for used -- best I saw was $11 but with $6 shipping, you're better off getting it NEW from Amazon for $17. If you have Amazon Prime (or you have an a friend or relative that would buy it for you that does, shipping is free. If prices are the same or slightly higher for new, I still go new every time. Best of luck in your hunt.

If you're really interested, then the best possible way to do so is to get Kingdom Hearts 1.5 ($20 on Amazon) & 2.5 (also $20 on amazon) on the PS3. They're HD ports of the Final Mix versions of the games. Buying those two discs will give you 6 out of 7 Kingdom Hearts games. The last one, Kingdom Hearts 3D, will be coming to the PS4 later this year.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions about it or anything. GL HF!

You could still save a bit of money if you can cancel the ps3. Get the super slim (500 gb) for $220, then get gta v which should be $30 or so. That'll save you $50 you can use for games.

Congrats on getting a ps3 and welcome to the PS family. It's a great great system. Oh - one more thing: if you can get a Playstation Plus subscription. 2 (sometimes more) free games each month, for $50 a year, less if you can find a deal.

u/ToxicSteam · 4 pointsr/assassinscreed

If you can afford it, you can get the Ezio Trilogy for a good bundled price. It has 3 great, if not the best, AC games that follow a single badass protagonist. Keep in mind that the new remastered version is coming out soon, although it hasn't been officially announced.

AC1 is the introduction to the game (the one game before the games in this bundle) so you will miss the introduction to the Creed/Modern Day characters. However the game is (to me) a pretty bad way to be introduced to the game, so I think it's better to fall in love with ACII then go back to relive ACI. Just read/watch a video on the modern day story of ACI if you want to have a better understanding of the going-ons in ACII.

Also, I wouldn't recommend Chronicles, they're a spin-off of the original games (Not to diss them though!). But I think AC: China may be available for free with XBone gold this month so maybe you could look for yourself. Hope this helped

u/Sageypie · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

On Amazon? Honestly, given the choice, I'd bloody well flip over getting either this Playstation 3 bundle or a 3DS XL. Think the PS3 would be awesome just to get in on some of the great RPG's that they've released exclusively. The 3DS would likewise be awesome for games like Rune Factory 4 and Monster Hunter...^also ^Pokémon

If it's just a pure dreaming type of deal?

This.

Only a measly 1.8 million dollars, oh, and it's easy to buy. Says that right there on the website.

I actually had this problem the other day! As you may know, the menus of most ps1 games are at 480p, but the game itself is at 240p, a resolution so unusual most TV's just ignore it. Over composite (also referred to as AV, RCA, and a million other names), it doesn't really care though.

If your TV has component as well as RCA, you could buy one of these cables that you can plug into both the component and composite inputs (If both these inputs do not share a sound input, you'll need A 2-pack of these splitters to make it work)

Then, depending on if you're playing a PS1 or PS2 game, you can just change the input on your TV accordingly between component and AV. Afaik this is the most elegant solution that allows you to enjoy the clarity of component video in PS2 games.

EDIT: If you're just getting into PS1 games on the PS2 you should also know you need a PS1 memory card to save your game. PS2 memory cards inexplicably do not get recognized by the game.

u/Slivias19 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I would recommend picking up the 1.5 and 2.5 edition of the games for the PS3 rather than the original. Basically those editions compile the Final Mixes of 1 and 2 and also throw in a few of the side-games that contribute to the lore but weren't originally on the playstation platform. The overall story is difficult to follow unless you really sit down and devote yourself to understanding it. I would highly recommend this series regardless.

There is minor slapstick comedy but it isn't very intrusive. The game handles mainly themes about love and friendship.

u/CMD2 · 1 pointr/SantasLittleHelpers

OMG 100% Little Big Planet. All three are great, but LBP3 the difficulty has a pretty significant uptick. My husband and I play together - I am a gamer and he is most decidedly NOT, but we both find it fun.

A game I do simply adore is Skyrim for PS3. I grew up with a single mom and the only video game love she showed me was the PS1 with games like Spyro and Tony Hawk XD I got addicted to this game when it came out and played on my friend's console. It was so fun, I couldn't believe it when I looked at my phone and 8 hours of my life slipped away. Right, now, I don't have any games like this for my system.

But if you need something cheaper to hit that $30 mark, Devil May Cry would be awesome :)

u/mushroomwig · 3 pointsr/ps2

Personally speaking I'd recommend getting a component to HDMI converter (I use this one and it works great but there are plenty of other models to choose from if you want something else) paired with some nice quality component cables (either the official Sony PlayStation 3 ones since they work on the PS2, or the PS2 component cables sold by HDRetrovision), I went a couple of low quality third party ones before spending the extra money on the nicer cables, it's well worth it.

u/demilich88 · 1 pointr/ps2

HD Retrovision recently added their PS2 component cables to the amazon store.
For price they are probably the best you can get.

Not sure if what is the best way to de-interlace the PS2 since most games run at 480i. Those that have a 480p option do look good on component.

Not all games look better when using GSM to force 480p, but some do like the GTA series. Smack component on that and it looks awesome.

u/bubblegumtrees · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Dang girl

Do you own any of the Supernatural seasons yet? If not, the first season is $22, for instance. You should buy your favorite seasons!

As far as video games are concerned, I'd recommend buying Uncharted 2, the new Tomb Raider, and Heavy Rain. These games are all super pretty and fun in very different ways.

u/Bakefy · 1 pointr/PS3

I am going against what everyone else is saying here...
But LBP 1 first. Play the hell out of it, then buy 2.

LBP is 17 dollars. amazon link

LBP 1 might be my favorite game of all time. The music, the levels, the introduction to gameplay... its just amazing.

LBP 2 is still an awesome game, and there is more to it. So it can do everything 1 can do, plus much much more.

I still can not get over how beautiful the levels are in 1. The soundtrack just makes my day.

Eventually you will beat the levels that media molecule made and you will be left with the endless user created levels. With that mindset, LBP 2 will let you play levels created for both 1 and 2. I still don't want you to miss out on the origins.

My plans: I spent today trimming the trees in my front yard, this required saws and ladders and was generally a royal pain in the ass. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do it on account of the weather, but of course after 20 consecutive days of rain, it stayed clear and dry. I am quite glad it's over. What you need is a high quality component cable, that alone will drastically improve the quality. The supreme solution is to combine a high quality component cable with a converter such as the OSSC to get a hdmi output. But these are on the pricey side but are amazing. So I'd get the cable first see if that's enough for you then go from there if you want to go the whole way.

I can strongly recommend this cable, its very thicckkk:

Kind of depends. $150 to fix my 80GB PS3 (that I was told was a 160Gb or whatever they offer). Or I can suck it up and get this for not quite $300. Not only will I get a game, but I'll get a bigger hard drive and an actual warranty.

So it's kind of...do I want to spend the smaller amount and hope that I don't have any other issues with it or do I want to save up even more (I don't have $150 OR $300 on hand right now so this is all an eventual thing) to get an upgrade.

It's designed by the same person and uses the same chipset, so it should perform the same. The RetroTINK-2X supports composite video, S-Video, and YPbPr, while the RAD2X cables support composite and RGB. For the consoles you listed, a RetroTINK-2X probably makes the most sense. I'd recommend getting a good S-Video cable (or this cheaper option) for the N64/GameCube and a good YPbPr cable for the PS2.

DMC 1-3 had a PS3 HD remake. Devil May Cry HD Collection I'd loook for that instead of the PS2 versions, just because they're remastered and will look better.

The special editions have some more playable characters and a few other features. Notably in DMC3 you can play as Virgil. It was tons of fun. DMC4 SE let's you play as Vergil, too. Since you're not aware of the story I won't tell you who Vergil is lol

I tried several controllers, and here’s what I went with.

My son and I really preferred our PS4 Dual Shock controllers with the Model 3, but we didn’t want to commit them to the car because we wanted to keep them for our PS4 Pro.

We also tried the Logitech F310, and they felt too flimsy.

We settled on a set of Xbox knock offs from Amazon called EasySMX

They feel decent, work well with Cuphead and the racing game, and they fit well in the armrest.

You probably get the most gameplay for your money if you get a used PS3 for ~100$/€ and the Disgaea Triple Pack (Disgaea 3+5+d2d) for ~35$/€.
Though, with a bit of luck, it may very well be possible that the other Disgaea games will also be ported to the PC.

Canon means it's part of the official story.

Non canon would mean it is a side story, could be happening in an alternate universe or timeline while using the same characters to portray the story.

The upcoming $199 PS3 will be good enough to play, there's no real difference in hardware, it's just cheaper because it's 12 GB and Sony is trying to price match the xbox360. Both aren't actually good deals.

Short search on amazon comes up with this bundle which is $70 more for Uncharted 3, a 250GB console and 1 year of PSN. Definitely do some bargain hunting, you might get better prices elsewhere.

Uh, have you seen This yet??? If you have and still only want 1 I'd suggest getting DD2. It's the most streamlined and fun. It features the original cast and I feel has more content as well.

u/sam7r61n · 6 pointsr/retrogaming

On a budget, get the Retrotink 2x to upscale nicely and convert to HDMI. To plug those consoles into the Retrotink and get a good image:

For SNES and N64, you can solve together by getting this exact S-video cable as it’s commonly known for quality.

For PS2, get Sony’s official component cables or get HDRetrovision’s PS2 component cables found here .

I know OG Xbox component cables can be found from Microsoft, and I’ve read the cheap knockoffs are good.

I don’t know what you can do for Dreamcast.

u/Stendal · 1 pointr/KingdomHearts

If you buy The Story So Far, you get every game that's not KH3 represented in some way. It's a pretty good value as you get five games, one smaller game/tech demo, and three movies.

If that's too much, just grab 1.5 + 2.5 Collection. This gives you four games and two movies, and contains KH1 and KH2.

If you're not working with a PS4, you'll need to buy 1.5 and 2.5 separately.

Well for platformers i,d recommend the Jak and Daxter Collections (if you haven't played them yet) and the Sly Series(1 to 4)
As for Action-adventure only a few comes to my mind: The Infamous series (basically it is an action open-world\Sandbox game with comics-style story) and the Batman Arkham series (a really great game series).

I'm not hacking together much I didn't think? I just want to use the Playstation Move controllers for motion control so I can move my hands around and grab stuff in game. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what exactly I need.

I have my phone with VR games and Steam with VR games on it, i have a regular controller, and I just bought the google headset. I'm just wondering which controller would be best for me to play games with while sitting at home that will allow me to reach out and grab things in the game or swing my arms or what have you.

Thanks for your assistance.

There are a few free VR games on the PSN store I believe.
https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-ca/free-on-ps-vr/cid=STORE-MSF77008-PSVRFREEG

You need PS Move controllers to go with the PS VR. Don't think they come with them. Here's an example: https://www.amazon.ca/PS3-Motion-Controller-Standard-Edition/dp/B002I0J51U

You can get Little Big Planet online from the PSN store, and in pretty much any gaming store. It's kinda old, so im sure you can find used copies at say a EBGames easily.

Your new PS4 may have also come with a PS+ trial in the box. Start with that to see if you'd like to pick up a year membership. PS+ gives you 6 free games each month (2 PS4, 2 PS3, 2 Vita games), but you need to keep your PS+ membership to play them. If you stop the membership, you do not loose the games, you just cant play them until you re-subscribe. You also get extra sale prices on games.

Well, I'd say that Red Dead has a better single player campaign, for sure. Actually, it has a pretty epic story. But Battlefield has a more fun online component. Red Dead's gets maybe a little boring after a few hours.

If you believe your brother is pretty hard-core, you could always turn to Demon's Souls.

There's collections for all 3 series. Sly Cooper Collection, Ratchet & Clank Collection, and Jak & Daxter Collection.

The only thing is that the R&C collection is missing Deadlocked, my third favorite one. Good thing I still have it on PS2, though. Other than that, those are pretty much the entire series. All of Sly Cooper is on PS3 now, all main series Jak & Daxter are on PS3, and all Ratchet & Clank minus Deadlocked are on PS3.

u/Ryvell · 3 pointsr/santashelpers

I'd look for games like Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, or Rachet and Clank.

There's a Sly Cooper Collection that has three games. There's also a Jak and Daxter Collection as well as a Rachet and Clank Collection. Each collection has three games, and they're running for about $15 each. These would keep them busy for a very long time. :)

Ah yeah, thanks for correcting the URL :) They also have an awesome extension for Chrome (and I would assume Firefox) so you can make the notifications right there in amazon's website. It's quite cool. You'll also get the historical data there as well.

Used will always be cheaper because it needs to compete against new. Why by a used product if you can buy new? So you price it less. New can't keep chasing used as you'll just eventually bottom out (ie: shits just free). The used market can't be used to direct prices.

Movies usually make all their money in ticket sales in theaters, the DVD release is just icing on the cake. Unfortunately for games, they don't have theatrical releases. Most games will eventually sit around $20 once they're old enough, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been $20 for ages, same with Resident Evil 4 and even Assassin's Creed II, which comparatively isn't as old as those other games. You can also get Medal of Honor and Dante's Inferno for $20, and I think they're barely 2 years old, perhaps only a year and a half actually (and the list of $20 games goes on and on).

u/Renarudo · 6 pointsr/gaming

The idea that sony sets the price at $299 is a half truth. The market sets the price. I bought mine for $284 on amazon (now $277:. Oddly enough the newer model, which comes with ACIII and 500gb HDD is cheaper than older models with smaller HDD/no free game.

u/LukeLC · 2 pointsr/playstation

Playstation Camera, two Move controllers, and games that support them. The last bit is where you'll run into issues, as really there aren't any. PSVR will use them, Dreams will use them, and LittleBigPlanet 3 has limited uses for them, but other than that I honestly can't think of anything.

EDIT: And in case you're wondering, you do NOT need this.

Amazon is the only place that has Red Dead Redemption for 45. You can't judge any other stores based on Amazon because Amazon deals with such quantities that they can offer prices that are so retardedly low that not even distributors can match them. (Case in point: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks has been $18 at Amazon for several months and all the main distributors to retail chains are still selling it at over $20.)

You'll also find that Amazon puts stuff on sale every single day. Something can be $23 one day and back up to $39.99 the next. For instance, Demon's Souls is now $38.95 on Amazon, and used copies, at eStarland are from $19.50 to $32.50.

But that's not really my point. Point is--eStarland offers trade-in values that blow the others out of the water, especially where classic games are concerned. And as for selection (related to gaming), eStarland has Amazon, Walmart, and Gamestop beat.

u/xxdofxx · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

Just to clear up any confusion (because when I went to buy these games 6 months ago I got it messed and up wasted $10.) The Legacy Collection includes The HD Collection, MGS IV, and a PSN code for MGS1 (note this ISN'T the Twin Snakes version, which is Gamecube exclusive and is much better in almost every way. So much so, that IMO you should just watch a long play on youtube instead of playing the original PS1 version.)

So if you DON'T have MGSIV and want to play/experience the whole series, absolutely get the more complete Legacy Collection. Only buy the stand alone HD Collection if you already have a copy of MGSIV and are going to watch Twin Snakes (MGS1)on youtube (which I recommend either way.)

So Target has done this promotion before where you pre-buy a game and get $20 off a certain title, and, while some say is dishonest, you can probably get some of these titles for cheaper than the $30-40 that they advertise for. While I'm not here to tell you what's right or not, I am here to post game deals, and, well, this is part of it.

Without knowing what the "& more" titles are, I'll start with the ones that Target has listed in the ad. In order to get them cheaper, you ask for one of the games that's listed and tell them that you want to price match to a competitor's price. Target policy is that they have to escort you to the customer service desk to do the promotion where they have to look the price up on one of their iPads. Bring the pre-order card with you as they can check you out at the CS desk. I advise that you also have a few other items with you as this is where it gets kind of grey. Some team members will do the price match and promotion no problem, others won't claiming that you can't combine promotions (which is true according to Target's employee handbook). The issue in question, however, is if price matching is considered a promotion. It does not clearly define price matching as a promotions, so, really, it's up to the regional area if they will do it or not. I've found that having other items doesn't really raise any red flags when I did this promotion back about a year ago (you can then return said items at a later date for a full refund of those items making your final cost the sale sale price). Up to you. Anyway, here are the games that are in the promotion and their "better" prices at other stores (Current as of this posting):

  • GAME, console [Store with link] - The price at the store - promotion = total price at Target

  • CoD: Ghosts, PS3 [ Walmart ] $23.53 - $20 = $3.53

  • CoD: Ghosts, PS4 [ Walmart ] $37.79 - $20 = $17.79

  • CoD: Ghosts, Xbox 360 [ Walmart / Amazon ] $22.28 - $20 = $2.28

  • CoD: Ghosts, Xbox One [ Amazon ] $21.69 - $20 = $1.69

  • GTAV, PS3 [ Amazon ] $35.13 - $20 = $15.13

  • GTAV, Xbox 360 [ Amazon ] $34.91 - $20 = $14.91

  • Watch Dogs, PS3 [ Walmart ] $39.71 - $20 = $19.71

  • Watch Dogs, PS4 [ Walmart / Amazon ] $37.70 - $20 = $17.70

  • Watch Dogs, Xbox 360 [ Walmart ] $38.96 - $20 = $18.96

  • Watch Dogs, Xbox One [ Walmart / Amazon ] $37.22 - $20 = $17.22

  • Titanfall, Xbox 360 [ Walmart / Amazon ] $36.92 - $20 = $16.92

  • Titanfall, Xbox One [ Walmart ] $34.87 - $20 = $14.87

It should be noted, that if you try to price match against Amazon, they will do the price of the product that is both SHIPPED and SOLD by Amazon. The "Fulfilled by Amazon" won't count! The prices listed above for Amazon are those prices current as of this comment. Some games are the same price at Walmart and Amazon, both links have been provided just in case one changes

I'll update it if I/you guys find out any other games.

I wouldn't use the RCA cables for the PS2. It will be playing 480i on your monitor and text might be difficult or impossible to read. I remember trying to play PS2 on a 42" TV using RCA and I could hardly read anything. Switching to component allowed everything to be readable though.

I suggest getting a scart to component cable and then a component to HDMI adapter. Note that even though the scart to component cable is for the PS3, it will still work on the PS2.

Using component will allow you to play your games on 480p instead of 480i. That way, you will be able to read any text in games.

Oh of course, that's why I've always stuck to the PC. I prefer PC gaming because:

  1. It's upgradable

  2. Wider variety of games

  3. More precise shooters

  4. Mods

  5. DRM free buying options like GOG

  6. I can use it for work as well.

All other arguments for PC gaming such as generally lower price of games are entirely subjective. The infographic in this post shows the price of PC games as $40 and the price of PS3/360 games as $60. This completely disregards PC gamers who buy all AAA PC games on release day for $60 (e.g: Company of Heroes 2 is $59.99 on steam right now) and console gamers who wait a few months after release and buy the games for less (e.g: Tomb Raider for PS3 is $39 at Amazon right now).

As for the AC series, stick to the Ezio trilogy (which you can buy for less than $30). AC1 isn't bad, but 2 is such a huge leap forward that I simply can't recommend the first one. 3 had it's moments, but overall fell short of the greatness of 2.
