-pixi nourshing balm oil cleanser Take off with warm baby wash cloth (microfiber, 10 pk $5 walmart)

  • botanical all bright 3-in-1 micellar cleansing solution$6.99 Walgreens. Works better than Garnier pink cap, gets everything off in one swipe, it’s amazing. Seriously. And moisturizing.
  • la Roche posay toleraine purifying foaming face wash helps clear out the gunk, great ph neutral and helps dehydrated skin. Both my SO and I used this and were amazed what it did to our skin in 2 weeks time.
  • cosrx 96 snail mucin (hydrating HA type serum)
  • dr. jart ceramedin liquid a very moisturizing “toner” in a sense, it helps repair the moisture barrier and i love how my skin looks when i use this stuff. I also use it on wounds to help them heal faster.
  • hada labo premium solution and hada labo premium milky lotion 2 step system. Use this for very dry days.
  • drunk elephant frambroos serum will wake up with brand new skin everyday
  • dr jart ceramidin cream As an all over layer once your done with these.
-dr Dennis gross alpha beta exfoliating moisturizer a wonderful emollient moisturizer that wakes you up with brand new skin, think of it as a more moisturizer DE frambroos, that you can use on the days you don’t use DE frambroos to get moisture and exfoliating and plumping properties. It’s wonderful.
  • ole Hendrickson banana bright eye cream wonderfully hydrating and also brightening under makeup as well, but can still be used at night. Plumps fine lines.
  • organic jojoba oil dab over face and around eyes, over eyelashes, eyebrows. Jojoba oil soaks into the epidermis bc it is the same size if not smaller than our pore size (compared to all these other oils like rose hip, squalene, Marula, etc)
  • organic grapeseed oil, one of the highest in oleic and linoleic acid, resveratol, omega 3, omega 6, vitamin E. Don’t use too much. jojoba, grapeseed, emu oil are my favorite. Emu helps anything put over or under cross the phosopholipid barrier and cross deeper into the epidermis.
  • lock everything in with Cera ve ointment.
  • la Roche posay double repair moisturizer UV SPF 30 Use this as a daily spf, it helps dehydrated skin.

things to have in your arsenol
  • stratia liquid gold a combo of niacin amide, cholesterol, other important ingredients in the right combo that can be added to your routine without going through the ordinary mindfuck.
  • Niod flavonne mud mask a detox, purifying, protective, and responsive face mask. One of the few masks to actually have.
  • sand & sky Australian pink sand mask Just do it. Have this in your kit because it Detoxes your skin and makes it look like brand new baby skin with small pores.
  • biologique recherche mask Viviant You won’t be able to get this, but eventually hopefully down the road in your skincare journey you will understand why I am recommending this. One of the best in the world.
  • Aztec secret healing clay a good clay mask that is multi-purpose. Can sprinkle in your bath with some epsom salt with a very, very detoxing bath. Or with a packet of aveeno (or off brand) colloidal oatmeal packs for calming, soothing yet detoxing bath.
  • taste knockout tingling treatment You want to see your pores disappear and your skin stay nice and balanced? Use this the night before. It’s pure magic. I’ve never used biologique recherche pm1970 but I can only imagine this is the closest it comes.
  • biologique recherche p50 pigm400 regulates melanin productions, evens and brightens skin.
  • melazepam 20% I personally am eventually going to try this, it’s iffy to recommend this because I haven’t tried it.... but it’s definitely on my list.... for an even and brighter complexion. I’ve tried The Ordinary 7% azelic acid and that was cool but not much of a difference. This seems like you would actually see a significant difference. I personally use retin A and have for 16 years now, nothing would work as good (none of these products) without my retin a. Pore size would not be what it is today without it. Melazepam=Azaelic acid or whatever. It prevents re-keratinization, is an anti microbial, anti-inflammatory, and some other shit. This plus retin A are like a golden combo. Def on my amazon wish list.
  • the ordinary 30% aha bha acid peel or whatever. One of the only TO products actually worth owning in my opinion. The rest are a clusterfuck that crowd up your sink and look cool. But only serve one individual purpose. Usually a mild one at that. By that way, watch that caffeine solution bc that can be very very drying. It can help with mild puffiness but lymphatic massage helps more to drain the fluid and all together help the cause, versus a solution that is going to dry out your skin in the end all.

That’s all I’ve got. Obviously this is not a go out and buy all these products at once, but I do believe that every single product on this list would help your skin. The major ones being tarte knockout treatment, sand and sky mask, la Roche posay toleraine purifying foaming face wash, pixi nourshing cleansing balm, botanicals 3-1 micellar water, cosrx snail mucin, dr jart ceramidin serum, and the dr Dennis gross exfoliating lotion. Frambroos is magical too. Gosh. Just everything here. But those specifically are my hard hitters. If I had to go buy something right now to try and see results, it’d be tarte knockout tingling treatment. The results on resurfacing are amazing. Buy that and jojoba oil, it’s moisturizing, just pat it in. Cera Ve makes a big difference in occluding your products and really making them soak the fuck in,.

I say this because I had skin just like yours about 3 months ago and I wasted my money on all these “HG” products everyone talked about, and they were pure shit. Find what YOUR skin likes girl,. And don’t go balls out all at once. Try one thing and see how your skin reacts, then start introducing like products. Don’t be afraid to return products to CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Sephora, Ulta. EVERYWHERE. Keep your receipts. Every. Single. One.

I'm glad i was able to inspire you!

My go to products:

Cleansers/removers:
I have weird cimbo skin too if i treat my acne i get red and weird. If i moisturize i get acne.
I have found that alternating between st. Ives blemish control apricot scrub and garnier's moisture rescue cleansing foam keeps my skin from getting oily or acne ridden.

Makeup remover:
I love love love almay's oil free makeup remover pads.

Moisturizer: garnier moisture rescue for normal to combo. It is super moisurizing, smells nice and is cheap. Its also a dupe for clinique's moisture surge moisturizer.

Lip balm:
I love nivea's lip balm tubes specifically their kiss of vitamin swirl. It keeps my lips moisturized and applied over lip products it gives a glossy sheen that is long lasting, not drying and not sticky!

I also use soft lips- any of the clear ones as a sort of primer for preventing lip products from drying out.

Brushes: i don't know if you have a Meijer by you, but i have the Studio M brush line set and it is similar to EcoTools in quality but much cheaper. I love them! As far as i know they are only available at Meijer though.

Primers:
For eyeshadow i like to use elf's studio primer, but if you can afford it, go with urban decay's. And for my face i use loreal's magic perfecting base. I find that it fills my pores and keeps me from getting oily throughout the day.

Face:
I love loreal's true match collection! I have a really hard time finding face makeup as well and discovering this line was revolutionary. I use their concealer and liquid foundation currently.

I also love rimmel's match perfection 2 in 1 concealer and highlighter for my under eye circles, as well as their stay matte powder for all over face application.

Lips: I love lip crayons! When i use tube lipstick i sometimes get outside the lines, and the kid in me gravitated to crayons. I am lusting after nyx's collection, but i am currently using Ulta's collection. They are usually more expensive than Nyx's but are currently on sale in stores and online for $2! I have found that rumors is a good neutral shade, daredevil is a bold red, and fashionista is a nice bold pink.

Eyebrows:
I currently am using rimmel's professional eyebrow pencil and love it.

Shadow:
I am currently using sephora's brown eyes pro lesson pallette and it changed my life-really.

Liner:
I use ulta's precision liquid eye liner (the marker) to get the shape i want (and for everyday) and sometimes top with nyx's studio liquid liner for it's long lasting power.

For kohl/colored liners i love the sephora collection line, especially the nanos.

Mascara:
For everyday use i use maybeline falsies. I also sometimes layer with rimmel's lycra lash extender.

I hope this all helps! Added Links!

So I do want to preface this by saying that my acne is largely hormonal. I don't break out because a product/fragrance is too harsh, nor is my acne really a result of clogged pores (like with dirt, oil, etc.), so YMMV if you've got sensitive or very acne-prone skin.

  • Moisturizers: I like to combine CeraVe moisturizing cream (in the big tub) and The Estee Edit pink peony overnight water pack. After I cleanse in the morning (I use Soap and Glory peaches and clean deep cleansing milk if you were curious) I apply the CeraVe first and then the Estee one right on top. At night, I'll do the same thing but if I'm extra dry I'll also add a few drops of sweet almond oil on top of everything. You can get sweet almond oil fairly inexpensively on Amazon, I use this brand. Also, a note of caution on the CeraVe moisturizer: it’s kind of heavy and it may take your skin a little while to adjust to it, during which time you might find yourself looking a little greasy. Keep using it, though! Once you’re used to it, it’s a fantastic moisturizer.

  • Primer: I'm currently using the Too Faced Hangover Primer which I have mixed feelings about. Sometimes I feel it doesn't really help the longevity of my makeup but it's gentle and does seem to moisturize a bit. I might look for something else once I finish up what I have, though. I used to use the very silicone-y primers (Smashbox photo finish, NYX studio perfect) before I realized that I really didn't like the feel of them on my face because they just sit on top of your skin. I've also heard of these types of primers clogging pores a bit.

  • Foundation: Tarte Amazonian Clay. It's medium-full coverage but still looks quite natural if you apply it well. I almost always apply it with a damp Real Techniques sponge because it gives a better finish. You can build up coverage faster with a brush, but it'll emphasize dry patches a lot more unless you're really, really careful about using a stippling motion rather than buffing. You can also try applying it with your fingers - I did that today to try and get my makeup on quicker and it looked awesome. Like I don't know if I was just having a good skin day or if I unlocked a mystical secret of this foundation but I was seriously shocked at how good it looked.

  • Concealer: Makeup Forever full cover concealer. Really good coverage without looking cakey or emphasizing dry spots. This is great for covering blemishes but it’s way too heavy for concealing under your eyes. If my skin is looking really bad and I’ve got some extra time in the morning, I’ll use a green concealer underneath the MUFE one as well. I’m currently using the NYX full coverage concealer (in the little jar), but because it’s pretty solid, it’s way, way too dry for my skin, so I’m on the lookout for a good green liquid concealer.

  • Powder: Bare Minerals mineral veil. I sweep a very light layer over my face just to set everything and provide a good base for blending blush on top of it. Loose powders like this one look more natural on me than pressed powders and are a lot less likely to look dry and cakey.

  • Setting spray: I use the Urban Decay all nighter spray. It seems pretty good, but this is the only setting spray I’ve ever used and I only started using it a couple of months ago so I don’t really have anything to compare it to. Sorry I can’t be more helpful in this category!

I use Alba Botanica Very Emollient body wash. $10 on Amazon, $15 at Target. The bottle is huge and should last me gosh... probably 3 months even though my two kids also use it daily. I use a salux cloth with two pumps of body wash.

For my face I use Yes to Carrots Fragrance Free Daily Cream Facial Cleanser. Super expensive on Amazon. $8 at Target. It does not foam up or lather and it is super thick but it rinses clean with no burning or tightness after. You truly only need an actual pea sized amount for your whole face, so this bottle should last at least 3 months!

For my hair, right now I am using Burts Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate shampoo and conditioner. These are honestly a bit expensive considering how little you get, so because I have long hair, even though these are amazing (super shiny hair now!) I am going to try Alba's shampoo/conditioner when these run out. Sulfate free is important to me.

After I wash my face I use Stridex in the red box (Whoa, that's a good deal on Amazon for a 3 pack... otherwise, around $5 at King Soopers) and after I'm done drying my hair, putting on lotion (Jergens Ultra Healing) I use Shiseido Senka Aging Care UV Sunscreen, which is absolutely amazing. I don't use a moisturizer anymore because the face wash and this sunscreen somehow are more than enough. The sunscreen doesn't have a scent, goes on easily, sinks in right away, has a matte finish... and my skin looked younger and smoother and healthier after one day using it!

The biggest reason I think I am bouncing back like this is because Nature Throid has T3 and T4 and I've been on that since 2 weeks after my initial diagnosis. My hair growth is probably about 4 months worth, so I would bet that in a couple months you will start to notice things improving. In the meantime, drink tons of water ( a gallon a day is actually ok), moisturize, and breathe deeply. :)

I've had KP since I was a kid and am finally getting handle on it in my 30s. My current routine is glycolic lotion twice a day, creams on the affected areas 3-4 times a day, and then physical exfoliation and using zinc or sulfur soap a couple times a week to keep the bumps at bay. But since skincare is YMMV, here's the exhaustive list of almost two decades of treatment, in case some of these other things will work for you!

100% of the items can be purchased via Amazon in the US - it's pretty much the only way I shop.

Beginner Level

If your KP has just appeared, focus on physical+chemical exfoliation and moisturizing. Look for lotions with the following ingredients:

Personally, I'd search for alternatives - not because I don't think the products aren't trustworthy, I'm sure they are!, but in all likelihood you'll be able to find a cheaper and easily accessible alternative. I get why derms push the fancy in-house brands, it's a great way to make money, but they do tend to be overpriced (and certainly aren't the only good & effective version of the product out there!) As long as it's not prescription-only, there are probably a bunch of affordable alternatives.

For cleansers, check out the cleanser wiki for recs

And as long as you're satisfied that the underlying cause has been treated, and since your derm is comfortable moving on to treat hyperpigmentation, you might want to look for alternatives to the cream as well.

> Ban A Tan Cream contains Arbutin Topical, Liquorice Extract Topical and Mulberry Extract Topical as active ingredients.

I know The Ordinary has an affordable arbutin serum! Imo licorice root and mulberry extract are nice gentle 'extras', but probably aren't doing the heavy lifting in terms of treating hyperpigmentation. They're still really nice tho! r/asianbeauty should have lots of good recs :)

If you want to check out other hyperpigmentation treatments, the PIH wiki is a good place to start. For body use, you might be interested in the following products:

Ingredient | Recs
| ---- | ---- |

Arbutin | Hada Labo Shirojyun Albutin Medicinal Whitening Lotion (150ml (5 oz), so on the small side for body application)
Retinoids | Paula's Choice Resist Retinol Body Treatment (0.1% retinol) - Deciem Retin-Oil (hydroxypinacolone retinoate)

i am not really sure what you mean about the eyelid thing, maybe a picture would help?

i have never used costal scents, but ive seen a few girls here make some nice looks with it. no idea on the quality. i know you said ELF is too expensive, but this palette is only 10 pounds. i have it and i like it. they are pretty good quality for a cheaper eye shadow palette. if you can afford some eye primer, the colors will look even better. i use urban decay primer potion, but that sounds like its a little out of your budget, maybe someone can recommend a cheap one!

i have combination skin (oily and dry! ughhh) and I always use liquid foundation. Powder can make the dry spots look really flaky. Revlon Colorstay is a good drugstore brand, I like it, it has good coverage and staying power, and I hear a lot of people mention it on here.

[edit] i see you are a teen and have youthful skin. if you dont get many breakouts and dont have a lot of unevenness in your skin tone, you could probably get away with a tinted moisterizer or a BB cream instead of a full coverage foundation. i recently got a sample of loreals BB cream and I was a big fan!

i really like ecotools brushes. They are good quality and relatively cheap!

Good luck!

The sun could definitely be irritating your nose. As u/thorshammermewmew noted, prob best to reduce your UV ray action but if you must be in the sun, wear the highest SPF sunscreen and def cover your nose, wear a hat to shield your face, etc. And def do not use a lemon + sugar scrub on your skin anywhere. Lemon is very acidic (think chemical burn) so the sugar will mask that acidity. It looks and feels like it's "working" but in the long term, it can be damaging.

I think the side bar has some great info but it can get a little overwhelming so a good basic routine: low pH-cleanser \> active treatment to reduce acne (salicylic acid (BHA) which dissolves oil in your pores) \> hydrator + moisturizer \> sunscreen. So here are some suggested products and routine/steps:

  • Face: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (low-pH cleanser, non-foaming, non stripping) \> Stridex (red box) contains BHA \> Add a few drops of Timeless Hyaluronic Acid (a humectant that attracts water to it) to the moisturizer (CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion) to boost it's hydration, apply to damp skin \> sunscreen
  • Back: Use a low-pH soap (Sebamed Cleaning Bar, Vanicream Cleaning Bar, or use the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser). Post shower, use a salicylic spray so you can reach your back like Nature's Cure Body Acne Treatment Spray. Apply a lotion with BHA (CeraVe SA Lotion for Rough & Bumpy Skin is a quality moisturizer with some BHA too).

The sidebar will have lots of other great skincare product suggestions as well but CeraVe is a good staring skincare line (well formulated with good mix of beneficial skin ingredients and low reactions although some do have allergic reactions) and it can be easily purchased pretty much anywhere in the US which is why I suggest folks try them out first.

Establish a routine that is manageable so you're consistent. Won't work if you don't use it regularly. Use products that are affordable b/c if you can't afford them regularly, no point in getting them to start! Hope this helps!!

There are a lot of brands in this offer I know nothing about, but there are a few things I can recommend:

La Roche Posay sunscreen, such as the Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen or the Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen. These American LRP sunscreens still aren't as great as the European versions, but they still work very well and I like how they sit on my skin.

I also love the LRP Toleriane moisturizer, but it is much cheaper where I live; I'm not sure it is worth the money with all great, cheap moisturizers available in America.

Mario Badescu buffering lotion is HG status for me. Nothing, not even prescriptions, work as well as this lotion on my cystic acne. I've never tried the drying lotion, which is for non-cystic acne, but I've seen it recommended here a number of times.

Also, seriously, the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. Technically, this is a skin care line for men, but who cares? I've read some good things about their moisturizers here, but never tried one. I maybe own the lip balm in every flavor....

u/glatts · 1 pointr/malegrooming

So about a year or two ago I began experiencing similar problems. One day it was so bad that on a whim in a drug store I purchased a little blue tub of Nivea Creme. It was cheap, but I figured I'd give it a try as I've liked some of their other products, especially their post shave balm which helped with razor burn and bumps.

Now I had never used moisturizers or anything on my face before. I would just wash it with a face wash when I showered and went to bed. But a friend of mine was working at Vogue or GQ and got my gf a couple of free samples of this stuff called Crème de la Mer. She absolutely swore by and I could definitely see the improvement in her skin. But as you can see here, at nearly $200 per ounce it's not cheap. But I got curious as to what made it so effective beyond hte marketing hype.

This led me to looking into the ingredients, and what do you know? That tub of Nivea Creme I bought almost has the matches. In fact, numerous other people have written about them and most say their performance is essentially the same. So unless your name is Daddy Warbucks and you don't mind spending 40 times the amount for what is at best a negligible difference, go with the Nivea Creme.

I recommend using it after you wash in the evening, and just leave it on nice and thick overnight. Then in the morning, rub some on your face before after washing again, but really rub it in this time. Within about 24-48 hours you will be as good as new, if not better.

u/Marshmellownightmare · 4 pointsr/pregnant

I had a badass skincare routine going before pregnancy that is totally not pregnancy friendly; I’m talking BHA/AHAs, special face washes, and rags, everything...

I got some pretty bad acne when I had to stop my routine, probably just because my skin was oily and I hadn’t looked into how to handle it while gestating just yet. But I’m getting MUCH better in the 2nd trimester, and now it’s just healing the scars left from the hell trimester. Here we go:

Face:
Garnier Clean+ Clarifying Cleansing Gel Sensitive Skin - Takes off my makeup easily. Mostly used in the shower because washing faces in sinks is brutal in the bad way.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water for Oily Skin - Takes off eye makeup easily if your having trouble with your thick black eyeliner smearing down your face because you “insist on doing your makeup like a ‘vam-per’” according to your parents.
MISSHA Time Revolution Clear Toner - Expensive as shit toner that I paid over $18 for and is now listed at $15, WTF Amazon. But it’s good stuff, pregnancy safe, toner is good stuff anyway, and it’s helping with evening my skin tone back out from the acne scars.
Triple Vitamin C Serum L-Ascorbic Acid - Vit C oil to help you fake that “pregnant glow” that we were all promised...
Bio-Oil Liquid Purcellin Oil - I use an off brand that I got on clearance but omg...like...I know this stuff is expensive but it’s a miracle. You just dab some on your scarred places, like the acne marks, or where your stupid fucking cat decided your hand was a snack and ripped a hole on your hand, or dark spots on your legs because you’re still bad at shaving leg hair and not leg skin, and I swear it fades SO FAST. Also rub it all over your boobs and belly. Like pretty much I would bathe in this from the neck down if it wouldn’t bankrupt my family.
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream for Dry/Sensitive Skin - Old faithful, the moisturizer. A tiny bit goes a long way. Also tends to make its way to my boobs when I’m tired and dont feel like using other lotions.

Body:
NIVEA Q10 Skin Firming Hydration Body Lotion - Bought pre-pregnancy. I used to use it every single morning and night on my thighs and it totally does reduce the appearance of cellulite. Now I use it lazily but it’s there and smells ok so it’s my go-to body lotion.
Lansinoh Hpa Lanolin Nipple Soothing Cream - my nipples are pierced and those things get dry in the winter. Baby may not be here yet but I went ahead and decided to try this stuff out. Seems legit. It’s super thick, moreso than Vaseline but I dig it.

I also use special toothpaste (not because pregnant, because shit teeth), a special washcloth (because I developed keratosis pilaris (sp?) and I wasn’t having it. The special rag put a stop to it FAST), lady-bits wash (because I get self conscious about sweating and smelling funky), special “sensitive skin” lube, and well I guess that’s about it. I sound like an amazon ad for many products. I’m not. Just a researcher/lover of my husband describing me as “so soft” when he touches me. 🤗

I love CeraVe's invisible zinc sunscreen, it has ceramide & hyaluronic acid. It's $10, but at TJ Maxx you can get it for $7. (Sometimes even cheaper on eBay, worth checking once in awhile.) Biore watery essence is nice & dries quickly. You can find wonderful prices on Amazon & ebay. I also love Ayodele, for $37 you get 500ml (hard to find since it can be sold out at times, but worth it. Kose also makes for a wonderful sunscreen at great price for 100ml, about $11 (but can be lower priced if you're willing to dig.)

There's a pretty easy way to avoid this:

  1. Take a warm bath with some bath salts. After about 10 minutes of soaking or so, exfoliate your skin, try this: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001POYT16/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) That's just an example, you can get some epsom salt (same stuff) at Walmart for half the price.

  2. Exfoliating the skin first prevents ingrown hairs. Super important. The first time I did this, I did not know how to shave my body properly and I ended up being way too vigorous and getting lots of nasty razor bumps. To exfoliate I used:

  3. Loofah or Pouf (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CTQMIC/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) again check Walmart, it'll be cheaper. The main idea here is that you want to exfoliate dead skin and loosen up any hairs that are growing.

  4. St. Ives Exfoliating Body Wash (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JLGC12/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) This is a really great natural exfoliant that you can put on the loofah/poof while you scrub

  5. After exfoliation, you shave. I shave against the grain with a good Gillette razor using this shaving cream: Cremo Cream (http://www.amazon.com/Cremo-Astonishingly-Superior-Shaving-Creams/dp/B003FVWRCK/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=191FPDNMEKJB5PRZXF94) Which does a really tremendous job. You only need to spread a little bit of it around and it helps to give a really great shave without any irritation (great for both men and women). Plus it last a long time.

  6. Moisturize with your favorite skincare lotion, brand doesn't really matter. You just want to keep that area moist and healthy.

  7. LAST STEP. Most important, DO NOT DO THIS THE SAME DAY YOU SHAVE. DO IT EITHER A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER. Use an acid-based lotion like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TTPZQ6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002D48QRK/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The basic idea here is that through chemical exfoliation they'll smooth the red bumps and give you a very smooth look.

This is my skincare routine and I don't get any of those ingrown hairs or razor bumps. I used too, though. That's why I do this.

Product name: Unrefined, raw shea butter

Price (range): Can vary widely depending on where/who you buy it from, but I use the Sky Organics one from Amazon.

Country of purchase: USA

Skin info: Oily/combination, Fitzpatrick 5-6, sensitive/easily dehydrated/large pores.

Ingredient list: Unrefined, raw shea butter (lol)

Special info: Rich in vitamin A & E and moisturizing fatty acids. It's also apparently non-comedogenic. And cruelty free!

Unrefined raw shea butter should be off-white to cream colored, but is not always uniform in color. Some dark flecks are normal. It can be crumbly and should smell somewhat nutty.

For those who need heavy, heavy moisture, look for shea nilotica (East African shea butter) specifically. The ratio of fatty acids makes it more moisturizing that West African shea butter which is already nothing to sneeze at.

Also, lots of online retailers support initiatives that promote sustainable economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa and help empower the women who do the overwhelming majority of the work when it comes to production of shea butter.

Experience & opinion: I've been using shea butter as the last step in my nightly routine for years now. It is the one product I can depend on to never break me out, never clog my pores, and never irritate my skin. It has helped heal and save my skin SO MANY TIMES when I've fucked it up by being too intense with acids or retinoids. It is absolutely without a doubt the single most important product I use that keeps dehydration at bay. If I'm going out at night and I put on a thin layer, and people tell me my skin is glowing. The only reason I can't use it during the day is that my sunscreen already makes my face way too shiny. Also a lifesaver for chapped lips or dry, cracked hands.

I will say the raw stuff can be hard to spread. A lot of retailers whip their shea butter which makes it easier to spread without destroying the benefits. If you don't want to use a whipped version, you can always break off a piece and warm it in your hands or the microwave.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a guy, so I'm really in unfamiliar territory here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I started using minoxidil to stimulate facial hair growth, so I've wanted to start dermarolling as well to help with collagen production.

I've purchased a dermaroller and 70% alcohol, but I'm a bit lost on what moisturizing products I should use immediately after dermarolling.

My daily lotion right now is Lubriderm 3 in 1 but I imagine that's not something I want to use after dermarolling.

I've sort of browsed around on here and there's a lot of products and abbreviations that are lost on me, but it seems like vitamin C is a good option to use after dermarolling?

Something like CeraVe vitamin C Serum is something I've seen suggested. I've also seen others suggest Timeless vitamin C serum but I'm not quite sure what the differences are.

Do these seem like good options, or is there something better you'd suggest? I'll take any opinions/suggestions

With physical sunblock containing zinc, it's gonna happen. With the US-approved reactive sunscreens, they also react with many soaps and turn red instead of white. I second the suggestion for Biore sunscreens from Japan. I used the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence for my face and their slightly cheaper Watery Gel for my tattoos. No zinc to white cast and none of the reef-killing reactives to ruin my clothes in the wash. They can be found on Amazon or eBay, sometimes with two day shipping and sometimes with month-long shopping.

Hi! I just recovered from dehydrated skin recently and live in Germany too! I find that layering hydrating products and then sealing it with an occlusive cream works best. Perhaps you could try a similar routine to mine like this:

  1. Wash with water only

  2. Hydrating toner x2 layers (Asian brands are best at this since they are more like a light moisturizer! I use Innisfree Green Tea skin, but you could try Klairs which is available on German Amazon.

  3. A humectant such as Hada Labo premium mixed with another layer of toner. This is also available on German Amazon.

  4. Sebamed Clear Face Gel

  5. Seal it with Vaseline. Once your moisture barrier is better, you could try switching to thick layer Cerave Moisturizing Cream (this is available some Apotheke. You can find online which stores have it. Don't buy it online because the stores sell for only around 12 euro).

I also suggest installing a water filter if your area has hard water.

    Best of luck!

Hi there! I also struggle with sensitive skin, and as a result I have problems with dandruff, oily skin (especially on the face), acne, acne scars, and eczema. Sensitive skin runs in my family (I'm Irish). So, I will give you a personal remedy that I developed over the last year that significantly reduced these problems.

I got some good initial information from this thread in /r/malefashionadvice. I use most of the products that he mentions there, my personal favorites being the cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash and the cetaphil dermacontrol moisturizer SPF 30.

For starters, it is important to get in a good skincare routine. I was always busy in high school and told myself that I didn't have time to waste taking care of my face. It wasn't until college that I realized my lack of skincare was really inhibiting my ability to feel confident, so that's when I decided I needed to get into a good routine. I started out by washing my face three times a day, and making sure I drink at least half a gallon of water throughout the day. Skin becomes oily when it is dehydrated, and drinking water is a good initial step to keeping it from being dehydrated.

I didn't really solidify my routine until I stumbled upon the /r/malefashionadvice skincare thread. It all depends on what works for your skin type, but for my oily sensitive skin, this is what I found works best:

  • I wash my face three times a day, once in the morning and afternoon each with cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, and before bed with the cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash.

  • Each time after washing my face, I also apply the Dickinson's witch hazel pore perfecting toner. It's a lot harder to find than the cetaphil products (I just picked those up from walgreens), but it is definitely worth it. I've tried two or three other toners and all of them left my skin very oily and irritated. It smells a little off, but it's not really a lingering smell

  • After the toner has set in, I apply cetaphil dermacontrol moisturizer SPF 30. I'll also apply this throughout the day if I'm outside a lot. It helps control the sheen of my skin by keeping it moisturized. Make sure you wash your hands with soap and water before putting this on because you do not want dirt getting into your pores!

  • To get rid of the stubborn blackheads that won't go away, I use pore strips about once a week.

  • I wash my pillowcase once a week and my bedsheets every two weeks. Every night sweat and dirt and dead skin comes off of your face and hair and goes into your pillowcase and bedsheets. Keep them clean so your face has a nice sanitary place to rest for 8 hours every night.

  • I also wash my towels once a week. I have four that I cycle throughout the week (one every two days). Washing your towels is just as important as washing your pillowcase/bedsheets because they are supposed to wipe away the dirt in your face, so if you don't wash them regularly, that dirt just accumulates and goes back into your pores.

After finally getting into a good facial skincare routine, I started having problems with excema and dandruff. I fortunately had a routine physical with my doctor where I asked him what I could do about these problems. This is where you may disagree with me, but he told me that I should not shower more than once a week. As I mentioned earlier, skin becomes oily/irritated when it is dehydrated, and one of the easiest ways to dehydrate your skin is excessive bathing. The doctor told me to shower once a week and more importantly to not use soap on areas besides the face, armpits, and genitals.

I told my doctor that I shower everyday because I go to the gym and sweat furiously. He told me to just take a quick rinse after the gym to wipe the sweat off, and to apply lotion daily. I apply Jergen's Ultra Healing lotion once every night before bed.

As for dandruff, this is where you may need to look elsewhere. While I do have dandruff, it's not much of a problem for me simply because it isn't very severe. I wash my hair three or four times a week with Dove Men + Care Sensitive Scalp. Since I don't shower, I usually just do this before bed by getting my hair wet in the shower, scrubbing the shampoo in vigorously with my fingers, then washing it out while also massaging my scalp. If that product doesn't work for you, you can't go wrong with some Head & Shoulders.

I hope this helps you, let me know if you think there's anything I left out!

    EDIT: added towel-washing regimen

Ok I have the same exact hair as yours.

You won't get this without chemical straightening

https://smhttp-ssl-33667.nexcesscdn.net/manual/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/curly-hair-with-undercut-men.jpg

I just got a keratin straightening treatment yesterday (basically a brazilian blowout). It doesn't take out the curls but just makes them looser. It'll still be too curly to pull of that style though, even with a blowdryer, but it'll look 10x better than what you have now.

3 options.

  • Keep what you have but keep the sides faded really short, but you have to get them cut every few weeks. Grow out the top to ~2 inches and it'll look fine.

  • Get the blowout (top needs to be over an inch long cause they have to flat iron it) and fade the sides every few weeks. Grow out the top to like 3 inches.

  • Or grow out the top to 3-4 inches, and sides to 1-2 inches, and get a blowout for the whole thing and style however you'd like. This would probably be the best looking option but you have to deal with the sides looking goofy for a couple of months while it grows out. With this option I wouldn't suggest getting the blowout till the sides are long enough so you don't have loose curly hair on top and an afro on the sides.

Pick up a leave in conditioner too. It'll help a lot with the frizz.

I had a semi successful day yesterday. It went okay. I squeezed a spot on my temple/hairline but then I stopped myself, and honestly that is the part I have the most difficulty with--stopping myself once I start.

Here are the spot treatments I use:

  • Walgreen's 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide. This is a generic for the Neutrogena On-The-Spot 2.5% BP, which I got because it doesn't have the emulsifying wax that Paula Praised Be Her Name complained about. Honestly though, when I run out I'm going to go back to the Neutrogena--I've got dry skin so something being more moisturizing isn't a con for me (and I buffer my BP anyway) and the generic stuff pills up SO badly when I top it off with vaseline. Sorry PB. Anyway. BP is seriously the most effective acne-killer for me. Every other day I use it in a thin layer all-over, and in between I use it liberally on my acne spots. It can be drying, but 2.5% buffered and topped with vaseline does the trick.

  • Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. This stuff is SUPER EFFECTIVE at beating cystic/nodular acne into submission, but it also kicks my moisture barrier in the ass probably because of the very high alcohol content. I use this very sparingly and only when I have painful inflamed cystic/nodular acne. I probably won't end up repurchasing this because it's really easy for me to overuse this, even as sparingly as I do.

  • Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum. I got this in my BirchBox last month and I'm really digging it. Azaleic acid is the 2nd ingredient, and it's got salicylic acid and tea tree oil in it as well. It's a liquidy serum that dries clear. I use this as a spot treatment in the AM (I buffer this too). I hate that it's $35 for a half ounce but I'm considering purchasing it anyway because I really like it. The SA helps with inflammation, the TTO is antibacterial and antifungal, and the azaleic acid is antibacterial too I think.

  • And last but certainly not least, hydrocolloid bandages. They are the rock star of spot treatments. But I don't have any sterile lances so using them means I've popped something.. I should really look into that. It is unbelievably satisfying to peel them off in the morning and see all my face gunk locked into the HBC.

Please keep in mind that my face was a tiny bit angry in the pictures from last night as I had just finished OCM. The morning pictures are from right after I woke up, before doing any of my morning routine. :)

My skin type: Pretty dry, acne-prone (obviously), prone to redness. I also have dermatillomania (compulsive skin picking) which creates a lot of scabs/scars.

PM Routine:

u/rosythewench · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Thank you so much!

I OCM 7 nights a week. It's safe to do every day because it is so gentle on skin. Following up with a regular cleanser won't leave my skin as soft and smooth as when I just OCM, but if there any lingering traces of makeup or grossness I feel like it helps to get everything off. When I first started OCM, I always used a regular cleanser after doing it, but now only when I've gotten really gross that day.

I have only ever used mineral oil because it works so well. This link from the sidebar talks about different kinds of oils and their various benefits and drawbacks. I may try something else in the future, but for now I am very happy with mineral oil and have seen a dramatic difference in my skin. I definitely suggest starting with mineral oil because it is so gentle, it's also fairly inexpensive. I use this stuff (as recommended by another SCA member) and have been very happy with it.

u/phoenixink · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

What have you been putting on them? I would say some sort of salve, Vaseline, or of course Egyptian Magic which is a bit expensive but is AMAZING, and lasts FOREVER (you only need the tiniest bit). You can use it on everything - lips, eyelashes, face, scars, cuts and scrapes, chaffed skin, feet, cuticles. Everything. I've had my jar for like six years.

Enough of that, though, if you don't have any Vaseline or a salve on hand, an unscented lotion may also help. Definitely nothing with a fragrance. Are you staying hydrated enough?

u/djn24 · 3 pointsr/vegan

It's possible that you might be dealing with symptoms of anemia. Your guess that you might be deficient in a nutrient is pretty reasonable. Iron and B12 are two nutrients you should pay attention to (and are really easy and cheap to supplement or add to your diet).

You may want to see a doctor or nutritionist to see if they can confirm that this is nutrient related and if maybe a blood test can help you figure out what's wrong?

For shampoos / conditioners, I used to use L'oreal's sulfate free options. They're pretty cheap (I used to buy them for $5-$7 depending on the store or type of shampoo / conditioner), and surprisingly vegan. Going to cleaning products that didn't have sulfates in them helped my hair feel healthier.

I also put this stuff in my hair after I take a shower, and my hair feels and looks pretty healthy throughout the day:

Hair Oil - Johnson & Johnson's Baby Oil.

Facial Wash - Clean & Clear Morning Burst Oil Free. Cetaphil is nice, too.

Dental Floss - Johnson & Johnson REACH (Mint waxed)

Briefs - Anything Bikini Briefs (multicolored sets). For local brands, I like Bench and Warren. They last a long time bago maging "baconized." :D

Colognes/Perfumes - too many to mention (I have more than 30 bottles that I rotate, excluding samples and decants)

It's actually not Shea Moisture--it's pure shea butter that someone else recommended on this sub! I think this is the one I got (off of Amazon). I've also used grapeseed oil before and liked it. Some say jobajoba or whatever is the best. Others swear by coconut oil, but it can cause you to breakout depending on skin. Coconut oil makes you smell great though.

Gel I use Deva Arc AnGEL because I got a giant bottle at a discount. Then I put LA Looks (the blue one) on top because it has a strong hold and I live somewhere that's really humid. Not sure I'll buy Deva again. It works well, but is a little out of my price range...

u/Rach__ · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

You will have to find out what products are best for you! Cetaphil (very drying) broke me out horribly, but I recently found Cerave Foaming Face Wash and it is amazing! Moisturizer is also very important. I use Nivea Creme but a lot of people like Cerave in the tub. It breaks some people out (me) but a lot of people love it.

u/messenia · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Why all this exfoliation? The main purpose of exfoliants is to keep old dead skin cells moving . At 25, your skin doesn't need a lot of help for that, just a little boost. FWIW, some people cannot use glycolic acid at all without getting cystic acne. I'd recommend simplifying things before you add more.

The CLEAR line might help but forget the Ordinary products, they aren't going to make the difference you are seeking. As your moisturizer, give Olay's Luminous Tone Perfecting Moisturizer a 2 month try. It use much more effective fading ingredients.

What kind of sunscreen are you using? I don't see that mentioned in your message.

Note: For cystic acne flareups, I've found Mario Badescu Drying Lotion to be very effective.

u/M1Ch1N · 1 pointr/Accutane

Just posted my routine in another thread! Its also important to make sure you GENTLY exfoliate the dead, dry skin once in a while because products will not seep into your skin if you have a layer of dead flaky skin on top. When I say GENTLY, I mean GENTLY. As in, using very light pressure and circular motions.

I usually gently exfoliate with regular face soap, https://www.amazon.com/Face-Shop-Water-Bright-Cleansing/dp/B00FJ2LU2Q/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QBAXDKBWNEI1&keywords=faceshop+rice+water+cleansing+foam&qid=1558028782&s=gateway&sprefix=faceshop+%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-1 , using an exfoliating towel in the shower, https://www.amazon.com/Korean-Exfoliating-Washcloth-Green-TeChef/dp/B00LGLOKLM/ref=sr_1_25?crid=3OPLND1BSAC82&keywords=exfoliating%2Bcloth&qid=1558028820&s=gateway&sprefix=exfoliating%2B%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-25&th=1 . Put some soap on the towel and exfoliate gently.

For skin, this is what I have found to work best for me. Currently on month 7, 30mg.

Cleanser: https://www.amazon.com/Bioderma-Hydrabio-Cleansing-Dehydrated-Sensitive/dp/B01ES79K4M/ref=sr_1_4?crid=CT33LP9ZQB56&keywords=bioderma+micellar+water&qid=1558027613&s=gateway&sprefix=bioder%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-4

The micellar water works for removing make up, but does not remove waterproof mascara. Use this both morning and night. If I just exfoliated, I will skip this step and go straight to toner.

Toner: https://www.sephora.com/product/moisturizing-toner-P253623?icid2=products%20grid:p253623:product

Serum: https://www.sephora.com/product/the-ordinary-deciem-hyaluronic-acid-2-b5-P427419

Moisturizer: https://www.sephora.com/product/ultra-repair-cream-intense-hydration-P248407

I've tried other combinations and this seems to work the best for me.

Thanks! I use the one in the tub, but to be completely honest I highly prefer Vanicream moisturizure and the Vanicream cleansing bar to my current CeraVe/Cetaphil regiment. I find the Vanicream products to have a more moisturizing and lighter feel on my skin, but it's only a small improvement over the good thing I've got going currently.

Consider Egyptian Magic, too. It's expensive, but a little goes a long way. It's made from olive oil, bees wax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly & propolis extract, has virtually no scent (I smell a little of the olive oil and the royal jelly but it's mild and pleasant) and is just downright good for you.

In addition to all the bizarre Dr Bronner's style writing on it, this stuff is good for everything. Of course as a moisturizer, but it also makes an amazing deep conditioning treatment for hair (I recommend an apple cider vinegar rinse), tames flyaways with just a tiny bit, stops razorburn dead, is amazing on minor burns for both pain relief and accelerating healing, is great for tattoos... I could go on and on.

u/LongBowOolan · 1 pointr/SkincareAddictionUK

Ah ok, that cleanser has SLES which is quite mild. Since you're not having problems with your skin drying out, I don't see why you should switch to another!

In general cleansers don't do much since you rinse them down the drain, so I would say using a good moisturiser is way more important!

CeraVe products are highly recommended, such as [this] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001V9SXXU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1480714372&sr=8-3&keywords=cerave+moisturiser&pi=SY200_QL40) one. [Eucerin] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0098YQH2O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1480714592&sr=8-1&keywords=eucerin+body+lotion&pi=SY200_QL40) is highly rated also. For less pricey options there's [E45] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001RYSEVK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1480714666&sr=8-1&keywords=e45+body+lotion&pi=SY200_QL40) and [Aveeno] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003H2GGZQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1480714703&sr=8-1&keywords=aveeno+body+lotion&pi=SY200_QL40). I would recommend trying one of the cheaper ones first, and if your KP doesn't subside then try the one of the first three.

Hope this helps!

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Milk - It doesn't make my skin feel tight and I haven't experienced any build-up yet, which is a huge problem with my skin and using some cleansers without exfoliation. I use micellar water after this if I'm using foundation because it doesn't get everything by itself, but for morning and non-makeup use, it's perfect. I rinse it off with water but it says you can also just wipe it off.

Heritage Store Rosewater - THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE. I don't care if it's a placebo effect, it feels wonderful on my skin, it smells magnificent, and it doesn't make me break out. I use it under Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion, which has hyaluronic acid, and together they moisturize my skin much better than with the lotion alone. (Pretty sure I've been drying my skin out by not moistening my skin first XD)

Cosmetic cornstarch - Brah. If your sunscreen and/or makeup leaves you looking like an oil slick, get this. It's super cheap ($1.50!!!) and is the main ingredient in a lot of makeup setter powders anyway. (I also tried the rice powder but it made my foundation weirdly patchy.)

If you think it might be eczema then I would try a mild treatment for eczema. I've used neosporin's eczema treatment. At times I've felt neosporin by itself has helped me with trouble areas, so I gave it a shot. You can find it at just about any drug store or super market. Hey SCA! I have dry/combination/dehydrated skin. I'm sensitive to silicones, fatty alcohols, and citrus oils. I'm still looking for my HG moisturizer.

Now, I'm trying sweet almond oil. First impressions: Cleared my skin almost completely in two nights. Turns face red. Face feels a little dry in the morning. Is it okay to use it even though it turned my face red? I'm using the one with vitamin e. (jojoba, coconut, and grapeseed all broke me out after a few weeks) If it doesn't break me out, I'll buy the higher quality oil.

I'm also using Dr. Lin's gel moisturizer and Nivea creme. I'd prefer to not have to use the Nivea creme because the mineral oil just sits on my skin. I've tried the sweet almond oil and used Cremo moisturizer instead of Nivea in the daytime and had a bad reaction (face turned red and burned) until I washed it off. Not sure what happened there (it's super simple)!

I'll gladly take any recommendations for any parts of my routine. Thanks!

Well, here's my routine:

Am

  • Wash with cold water
  • Dr Lin's Gel moisturizer
  • Nivea Creme
  • Andalou Naturals Oil Control BB cream spf 30 (Not tinted, doesn't cause a reaction with my skin, best sunscreen I've tried)
  • Makeup

    PM

  • Cleanse Murad Oil Cleanser (has fragrance, I've only used it since Christmas)
  • Tone with Thayers Witchhazel (make sure all dirt is off face)
  • Spritz with Rose water
  • Dr. Lins Gel Moisturizer

I want any of the lip balm making supplies on my hobbies list. I make my own lip balm because it works better and I can tailor it, but I can't justify that I "need" any of it because chapstick exists. And it's way more expensive and totally unnecessary but i'm a perfectionist.

In the beginning of my pregnancy I started researching different products, decided to go with something simple, this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000536EK/. After showering, I spray my body with rosewater (http://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Store-Flower-Waters-Rosewater/dp/B0002JHGYC/) as a toner then use the body oil all over. Been doing this from the beginning. I'm just at 24 weeks now so it's too early to tell but so far so good.

Also another thing, besides hydration, is eating good fats! These will help your skin from the inside out.

In short, pick a simple protocol, stick to it, don't worry too much, and eat good fats.

u/broken_ship · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Nivea creme is amazing. The kind that you get in the blue tub/tin. Put on a relatively thick layer at night, and then pull on a pair of socks. Don't use regular socks that you walk around all the time in, I recommend a new pair that you use just for this. Then go to bed. Do this for a while and your feet will be baby soft! No dry flaky skin, so they look really great in sandals.

Also, a pumice stone is your best friend.

There are quite a few options. I've used 3: Alpha Hydrox 10% Lotion, MUAC Glycolic Acid Body Lotion and Amlactin.

Amlactin is sticky and didn't feel good on my skin at all. I didn't use it long enough to really gauge it's effectiveness. I just couldn't stand that tacky/sticky feeling.

MUAC Glycolic Acid Body lotion works amazing on my PIH. I've been dealing with compulsive picking for years on mostly my arms and this has been the best product I've ever used for healing PIH and redness by far. The downside is it's not very moisturizing so if you have dry skin you'll likely need something else to go along with it. I also have to use quite a bit to get good coverage because it doesn't spread all that well. So while it isn't too expensive per oz I run out of it fairly quickly.

Alpha Hydrox 10% Lotion is what I would recommend to most people. It's more moisturizing than MUAC's lotion and soaks in quickly. It never feels greasy or sticky. It also spreads better than MUAC and I don't have to use as much. The downsides are it's not as good for PIH and it causes some clogged pores for me (which can be a big problem with my skin picking habits).

I didn't notice the smell /u/Khokhmah described in any of the lotions.

u/lobster_johnson · 4 pointsr/Psoriasis

Tanning beds work, but they're not nearly as effective as phototherapy.

There are three types of UV light used in mainstream phototherapy: UVA, narrowband UVB (or NB-UVB) and PUVA (psoralen-UVA).

  • UVA is what most tanning beds provide (though some provide some UVB, mostly accidentally). While UVA does treat psoriasis, it's significantly less effective than UVB. It's also known to be damaging to the skin.

  • PUVA is UVA combined with a medication called psoralen that increases the skin's sensitivity to light. It is by far the most effective form of phototherapy, and it was the primary form of phototherapy for many years, but it's fallen out of fashion a bit.

  • Narrowband UVB machines emit a very thin sliver of the ultraviolet-B range of light. The healthcare has almost entirely switched to this form of light, as it's considered to be safer than broad-spectrum UVA, and doesn't require any special medications.

How effective is a normal tanning bed compared to UVB? No idea. I haven't found any papers measuring it. It's probably only 20-30% as effective. You have to balance this against the skin damage (you may want to wear clothing and expose only the parts you want to treat).

Keep in mind, too, that some people don't see any improvement from phototherapy at all. Psoriasis is a highly individual disease.

As for scales, descaling is a thing. Find a moisturizer with 10-40% urea. Urea is amazing in that it dissolves dead skin cells, and also happens to be a natural moisturizer. Eucerin Dry Intensive 10% urea is a good one, though there are many other products.

I'm 22 and almost clear from the black marks. I tried almost EVERYTHING. Try these three steps.
Step one: Sulfur Soap
Step two: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness
Step Three: Cetaphil Fragrance Free Moisturizing Cream
Step Four optional*: Clearasil Acne Treatment Cream, Tinted

Now try not to eat chocolate, eggs, and sour cream.
It may sound a lot but it works.
Good Luck.

Hi and welcome! If you want your makeup to last throughout the day, be sure to use primer before applying it. There's facial primer, eyelash primer, lid primer, lip primer...I mostly use lid and facial primer--Urban Decay and Smashbox, respectively. And if you really want your makeup to stay without budging, you can spray your face with a makeup setting spray (Urban Decay makes a good one). Hope this helps!

My upper back is a problem area for me, too. This spray has helped clear it up tremendously! It's not 100%, but definitely better than it used to be. I think if I was more religious about physically exfoliating the area, it would help, but it's just so hard to reach effectively. https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Cure-Body-Treatment-Spray/dp/B00027DHYM

I've used that in the past as well as Gillette Series After Shave Gel with success. Right now I'm using Lubriderm Men's 3-in-1 Lotion which is the most economical (i.e. cheap) way to get the most bang for your buck.

The reason I like Lubriderm so much is the dispensing method. With those other options listed, I had a tendency to use too much. With one push/squirt, you should have plenty for your post shaved face. I'm sure most people frown upon the 'combo' products (which I usually do), but this has been working for me pretty well so far.

I use Neutrogena pink grapefruit scrub (or any salicylic acid body wash) on a shower poof to scrub my back and shoulders as the last step before getting out of the shower. Then I use 2 other products after my shower, 2-3 times a week:

(BHA-Salicylic acid) Nature's Cure Body Acne Treatment Spray - 3.5 fl oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00027DHYM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2B8FAb6G66FBX

Spray on the BHA after showering and let dry for at least 30 mins, then follow up with the AHA lotion. This has cleared up my back and shoulders 99.9%!

Here's how you'll get as close as possible. After you step out of the shower:

  1. Towel-dry your hair.

  2. Use a leave-in conditioner like this one. It will act as a heat shield and protect your hair.
  3. Blowdry your hair into position while brushing it in the direction you want using heat.
  4. Once it's dry and in the position you want, add just a little bit of argan oil. You can really get in there an mix it in at the roots and your hair will still fall back into place easily because of step 3.
  5. Now add a small amount of your matte product, and make sure you emulsify it by rubbing your hands together first for an even coat. Do the same thing as the oil. Get in there and coat the roots. Remember, less is more. It's really only needed to provide a bit of texture as your hair is already in position from the blowdrying and softened from the oil. The more you add, the less hold you'll have (as paradoxical as that sounds).
u/Pinyaka · 9 pointsr/malegrooming

I use Cetaphil cream (not the stuff in the pump bottle). I ran an experiment where I moisturized half my face with Cetaphil and the other half with some expensive organic hypo-allergenic stuff for a month and then had my gf decide which side look and felt better. She chose the Cetaphil. Not terribly scientific, I know, but it was enough to convince me that the cheap stuff is okay.

I've been using a tub like the one in that Amazon link for right at one year now and it's still 90% full. In other words, I will probably get bored and try something else before my first tub runs out. Also, it cost a lot less than the Amazon price at my local Target.

I use TO Squalane Oil and I love it! I think it is out of stock now though because of Black Friday. I also have Timeless Squalane Oil and I like it as well! Lanolin is by my favorite occlusive – it’s also lovely as a lip mask especially over a layer of Aquaphor.

I use Sky Organics unrefined shea butter. Amazon link. What I do is I scoop out give or take a pea sized amount, warm it up in my hands, then mix in a pump (or half pump depending on how I feel) of body lotion or a few drops of oil. I do this for both arms, then for my stomach, lower back and butt, and then each leg on its own (I get dry legs so I use a generous amount). It’s not the most elegant to use and feels a bit gritty but the results are so worth the effort! For my chest and upper back though, I mix a small amount with Squalane Oil and my essence as my body lotions break me out there!

My husband and I use sunscreen - he's african american and this sunscreen doesn't leave a white cast on his face like others do. It's also water based I believe so it's not greasy (I have oily skin, so this is a must).

Biore UV - you can get this on amazon, but it takes a while to get to you as I think it comes from Japan or something like that. We always order the two pack and then order again once we start the second bottle. It doesn't take THAT long to get to us (getting completely through the second bottle) but it's just a nice rhythm to have so that we don't run out.

u/Sledgehammers · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddicts

It sounds a lot like Exfoliative keratolysis, though I recommend consulting a derm to know for sure.

I don't know what other lotions you used, but I've tried working hands and I personally found the texture to be dry and starchy. Treatments for this recommend creams with lactic acid, so Amlactin may be worth a shot. It might be greasier than you want, so try using it before bed and see if that helps.

Also avoiding solvents, harsh cleansers, maybe even heavily fragranced things on your hands could help as well.

Ive started using whipped shea butter with tea tree oil and it's worked wonders for my acne. Shea butter is extremely moisturizing and has a comedogenic rating of 0, meaning it does not clog pores. The tea tree oil is a great additive due to it's anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which helps clear and prevent acne. You can add other good stuff to it as well like rose oil or vitamin E.

First I mix the shea butter with my regular hand mixer until its smooth and fluffy. Then I measure about 6oz of the whip and add in 10mL of 100% tea tree oil (about 1 little bottle). I only use this at night as it doesn't fare well under foundation.

During the day I use Gold Bond Strength & Resilience. It doesn't 'eradicate' pimples but it makes my skin smoother and keeps me moisturized without being hella oily.

For my severe breakouts I use 50/50 AmLactin and benzoyl peroxide cream as an overnight treatment. I dont recommend this because the benzoyl peroxide has the potential to exacerbate acne scars

LOL!

You can use that laxative one for a shaving oil--it works pretty well actually. I didn't know what to do with my bottle--hated it bc of consistency--so I've started shaving with it/applying it after I get out of the shower on my legs. Can't let things go to waste!

This from iHerb is $4 and pure/unfragranced. Or it's $5 from Amazon-but it looks like it's an add-on. Or Snow River Wood Oil off Amazon is like $7--and since MO doubles as cutting board oil, you could use it for your wood cutting board if for the face/body is a fail. : P

u/ErrantWhimsy · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I had no idea cold cream could do that. I just looked up mineral oil on Amazon and it gave me "butcher block conditioner" for most of the results. This is the closest I could find, does that look right?

All I wear for foundation right now is Rimmel's Stay Matte powder. I'm trying to be nicer to my skin and not clog my pores like crazy, but I don't appear to be achieving that.

Thanks for going through all of your causes! I did just get a new shampoo as well. Hm. (Can you tell I got a new job that gives me enough breathing room to get pampering things?)

Varies during season and face vs body.

Face

During Summer: Simple Light moisturizer. Don't need as much since it's warmer/more humid.

During Winter: Simple Rich moisturizer . It gets dry in the winter so the richer moisturizer is good.

Body

Summer: Jergens Shea Butter. Don't need a much since it's not as dry.

Winter: Jergens ultra healing Chicago gets dry as fuck so this works great.

For your face I'd definitely suggest the simple light moisturizer. It doesn't really leave any greasy feeling.

Have a look at Egyptian Magic, it's an occlusive I've seen mentioned. $27 on amazon for 4oz.

Ingredients:
Olive Oil, Beeswax, Honey, Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly, and Bee Propolis

No petrolatum and no shea butter, but it's easy to get some unrefined shea butter and add it along with the Egyptian Magic if you like.

u/0ne8two · 7 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I used to have this problem every winter. There's a difference between treating the problem and putting a bandaid on it. If your skin is dry and flaky, it probably needs more than moisturizer. I would try hydrating toner + something with urea, ceramides, fatty acids, or squalane (among others) + a heavy moisturizer + (optional: seal with Vaseline or Aquaphor). Using a chemical exfoliant 1-2 times a week could help a lot as well.

Everyone's skin is different, but what worked for me was directly after washing my face applying and layering hydrating toners (I used Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion; followed by Hadalabo Milky Lotion Premium; followed by Stratia Liquid Gold which contains ceramides; followed by a heavy moisturizer with a drop of Squalane (TO has a cheap option for squalane oil.)

There are multiple moisturizers that will work for your need. Clinique 72-hour Moisture Surge Intense, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, Cerave (AM or PM), La Roche-Posay, etc. Some people swear by sealing it all in with an occlusive in the form of Vaseline or Aquaphor. Becareful, as this does break some people out.

Lastly, using a chemical exfoliant 1-2 times per week will help with cell turnover and ridding of dead skin.

Edited to add: Another thing that was a big help for me was switching from drying foaming cleansers to oil cleansing!

Just [decarboxylate] (https://wakeandbake.co/decarboxylating-cannabis-to-activate-thc/) some concentrate, you can use a strain like good medicine or something similar that is high in CBD. Use a double boiler [like this] (https://www.rachaelraymag.com/faves/technique-how-to-diy-double-boiler), you put the concentrate into it, let it heat up to 280 degrees and no warmer for about 5-10 minutes, then add your base.

You can use food grade glycerin, or ethyl alcohol. Either will work as a base. So measure your base, if you have [100 ml] (https://www.premiumvials.com/1-oz-amber-boston-round-glass-bottle-w-glass-dropper-as-low-as-0-39/?gclid=CjwKCAjw-bLVBRBMEiwAmKSB86N5d4BQTiNltiaiS9YTFsjxRVrc_JxV4ug0J5NwT-rFsZobpd2PexoCTa4QAvD_BwE) of [glycerin] (https://www.amazon.com/Vegetable-Glycerine-Kosher-99-7-Pure/dp/B000RT9JGK?th=1) or [alcohol] (https://www.crownwineandspirits.com/stolichnaya-100-proof-vodka-750ml/), do the math based on the potency chart on the back of your concentrates package.

So if your concentrates are rated for example, at 23% THCa 0%THC 30% CBD then for 1 gram you would end up with a dosage (after decarboxylation) of around 1.9-2.0 mg of THC per ml and 3mg of CBD per ml of Tincture. (THCa is converted to THC by decarboxylation, making it biologically available)

I can make enough juice with a 1/4 to last me quite a while, a lot longer than straight herb will last me and I can control the amount in each batch more closely to desired results. If I wanted to I could make some crazy one hitter quitter juice or I can make some slow sipping, you just regulate the amount of VG you use in the process and how much dilution with PG to get desired results.

A gallon of VG is like $19 on Amazon to your door, PG is a little more but this will be enough to last you several batches, probably at least a years worth of juice making. Only other investment is a crock pot, mason jars and maybe a strainer or cheese cloth which is a negligible investment.

I use the Hada Labo lotion as a toner and apply it to damp skin before moisturizer (do not rinse it off). It helps your skin to retain moisture and I think it makes a difference.

Oil doesn't damage skin, and sometimes oily skin is a sign that your skin is lacking moisture and is producing more oil as a response. I use the Ordinary squalane! Oil should be applied as a last step or mixed in with your moisturizer.

Earlier this year, my dermatologist recommended Glytone Exfoliating Body Lotion, - he gave me this direct link to the product on Amazon. This stuff is wonderful! At around 27 bucks it's not cheap, but won't break the bank either. I use one or two pumps a couple of times a week on my shoulders and arms and noticed results the first week. Three months on, and have just under half a bottle left. My KP is virtually gone. No joke, my arms look like they did when I was 20, even though I just turned (ahem) 40. Edit: Not sure about the % of AHA, but ingredients are listed as Water (Aqua), Glycolic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, PEG-40 Stearate, Allantoin, Propyl Gallate, Tocopheryl Acetate. And no smell.

For me, I patch test where I usually break out which is along my jawline and on my chin. As I haven't got any active acne on my chin (bang in the middle right now!) I've been patch testing there, as I'll definitely be able to tell if something does cause an issue.

Mineral oil doesn't cause pore clogging for many people, but it can. I recommend starting out with that. If your skin isn't sensitive to fragrance you can use baby oil. [oops just saw you are sensitive to fragance.. so am I, skin twin!] Do patch test though, you should patch test everything to avoid issues in the future (I learned this the hard way!!)

Remember that you can use your clinique cleanser if you double cleanse and wash the oil off your face as it's recommended to use a foaming cleanser to make sure it all comes off!

I use Africare mineral oil http://www.amazon.com/Africare-100-Mineral-Oil-8-5/dp/B003CTG0W8 but I think a lot of people find pure unfragranced mineral oil in hardware stores for oiling cutting boards? Just make sure mineral oil is the only ingredient if you do go with it.

Try the Mario Badescu buffering lotion instead? "Specifically designed to treat large, deep, cystic acne."

I'm a big fan of Egyptian Magic. I layer this on after Retin-A and it keeps away the flakeys, and it doesn't break me out. It feels like layering on a thick, less messy oil.

For dry skin, two very important ingredients are urea and ceramides.

This Eucerin hand cream has 5% urea and ceramides: https://www.amazon.com/Eucerin-Advanced-Repair-Creme-Ounce/dp/B076FYJXGN/ref=sr_1_3

If your hands feel severely dry, get a 10% urea cream.

Primer! That shits amazing. Put it on before eyeshadow and that shit will not move. I have literally woken up with perfect eyeshadow when I used that and didn't take it off when I went to sleep.

here is my favorite

And setting spray. I am not too well versed in that. I don't use foundation or powder so I don't really need it, but the urban decay one is supposed to be really good.

here is that one

As a fellow KP sufferer, Eucerin makes a cream with urea that's been the best thing for my KP from the Gold Bond rough and bumpy, AmLactin, and many other lotions. I've only ever found it online though.

u/philofetish · 2 pointsr/DIY_eJuice

Depending on how much you are buying, you might want to get it directly from the manufacturer. 1 gallon Froggy's Frog on amazon is 39.99 (prime), whereas 2 gallons directly from Essential Depot is 49.95 (free shipping)

(i also just sent this:)

PS. I have done a bit more research, and I feel more confident believing that this is a faulty batch than that your company has been dishonest. It seems you have an item that is cocoa butter oil -- is it possible for there to have been a mass mislabeling and the labels for the two products were switched? Several people have had the same experience:

http://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/2i50kh/hellp_my_second_time_ordering_the_100_mineral_oil/

http://www.amazon.com/Africare-100-Mineral-Oil-8-5/product-reviews/B003CTG0W8

For me, the worst case scenario is a horrible break out, but there might be more grave consequences for those who have an allergy. Please take care of this as soon as possible and keep me updated when the problem is resolved so I know when it's safe to order this product again.

I really like Egyptian Magic Cream. It's kind of like fancy petroleum jelly, but it really evens out my skin tone by morning time. I really swear by this stuff! I also find that 100% argan oil reduces my redness by morning time (I use the now brand). I put both on at night before bed.

u/seahan123 · 4 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have this too and I've used AmLactin Ultra Triple Action Alpha Hydroxy Acid Hydrating Body Cream, which was recommended by my dermatologist and while the little red bumps are still there, they are much less noticeable and my skin is so much softer!

I've also used DermaDoctor's KP Duty line and found it not as effective for it's really high price.

I use this L'Oreal cleanser to wash my face and this Lubriderm lotion to prevent dryness.

u/BriarMagic13 · 1 pointr/DIY_eJuice

Mine tastes similar to cough syrup without the alcohol burn. Slightly sweet with an odd mouth coating feel. Here is what I've been using.

u/MacTaker · 2 pointsr/Psoriasis

You can get Eucerin with 10% urea on Amazon . It helps with the scales and makes me feel a bit better, but it doesn’t stop flare-ups.

This stuff is gold:

http://www.amazon.com/Nivea-Creme-6-8-192-Pack/dp/B000KFX23M/ref=pd_sim_bt_1

You should be able to get it reasonably cheap locally. It is very thick and if you put too much you will definitely look greasy. But once youve mastered the amount, you skin will be ridiculously soft with really little to no cons...

I have never used a lotion that hydrates the skin as well as this stuff.

u/withmirrors · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

This stuff also has 2% Salicylic Acid, but it's a lot cheaper than Paula's Choice.

u/SwaffM · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I also over exfoliated my forehead and now I'm looking to rehydrate... Is this the moisturiser ?

u/RockyMtnAristocrat · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

I use shave Lubriderm.

But I may ditch it. I checked the ingredients and it doesn't have any magic.

u/Mimicas · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

found the white and the premium lotion on amazon

I can't vouch for it myself but I was JUST reading about this lotion for my eczema (in another post) and everyone in the comments is referring to KP treatment: http://www.amazon.com/Glytone-Body-Lotion-8-4-Ounce-Package/dp/B002D48QRK

That's the drying lotion you are thinking of. The buffering lotion is this https://www.amazon.com/Mario-Badescu-Buffering-Lotion-oz/dp/B000O5RVJO

u/Laserdollarz · 1 pointr/trees

Ive never done it and never read anything on it, but here's my ideas:

Grind fine, you may want to buy a coffee grinder and dedicate it strictly to this. You can use AVB, bud, stems, anything containing a hint of THC. Soak in vegetable glycerin, keep warm and stir. The flash point is 176C, significantly lower than the boiling point, so keep that in mind. Stir frequently.

I have no clue what ratios of ingredients you should use or how long you should keep it going for, but experiment and let us know.

u/trichyfingers · 4 pointsr/trichotillomania

I also pick at my legs. It doesn’t help that I have keratosis pilaris. I tried using an epilator for a while, but I kept ending up with ingrown hairs that I would then pick at some more.

I tend to pick at my legs when I’m very anxious.

One thing that I’ve found recently is AmLactin. If I’m consistent with it, I barely have anything to pick at on my legs. I’ve been thinking about trying the epilator again and then using AmLactin 24hrs after, and continue with it daily.

My HG moisturizer during winter is Hado Labo Premium Lotion... the gold one. Actually it's kind of confusing to find so here's a link.

I know by now you’ve gotten adequate advice and product recommendations, but just jumping in to say that I had this same thing severely, back when I worked in food service and was constantly washing my hands/doing dishes, and this stuff saved my life https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0067JF8CI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OZejDbHEK99M1

u/kitsunegi · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Don't know if my recommendation will help in any way since I'm male and might have a different skin type than you, but I figured I might as well offer my experience.

Are your pimples the kind that are under the skin (not whiteheads or blackheads) and hurt when you press down on them? I get those a lot, and whenever I would feel the small red bump hurting when I pressed on it, I would dread it because within a few days it would always mushroom up into a huge zit.

I desperately searched this sub for treatments and tried a few duds until I found Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. Now when I feel the small red bump, I apply the liquid-y solution to the area every night, and within 3-4 days, the hurting when I press down on it stops and a week or so later, the red spot fully disappears.

It's more of a solution for when you already feel the zit coming, rather than a way to prevent it entirely, but it's given me a lot of relief, knowing that I won't have to deal with something bigger than a red spot.

Amazon link if you want, but you can also find it elsewhere: https://www.amazon.com/Mario-Badescu-Buffering-Lotion-oz/dp/B000O5RVJO/
