Knipex combination pliers have become one of my favorite knipex products. Less bulky than linesman pliers, more beefy than needle nose. Not too expensive either.

Knipex cutters (my preferred size is 8") are some of the best made.

Their compact bolt cutters are awesome too.

Cobras are well renowned, although your Irwin Groovelocks are a decent substitute.

Pliers wrenches are very nice to have, but pretty spendy, even for Knipex.

When browsing Amazon for knipex, its best to search Amazon Warehouse for any "used" deals, and use a price tracker like CamelCamelCamel to get them when the prices are low. The prices fluctuate a lot more than is reasonable. Amazon Warehouse "used" products are typically just products that have been returned or products with damaged packaging. I've had great luck with Amazon Warehouse, everything has been like-new, but without original packaging.

This is a good buy right now, especially the $65 "used" Amazon Warehouse offering.

I imagine that their warehouses will get some in up to two weeks before they ship. There are a few ways to score one early. My favorite method for getting early deliveries from Amazon requires you to spend a little bit more money. Add this, this, this and this to your cart and use your Amazon prime to get overnight shipping.

Now you've got a little reading to do (no big deal for us Kindle lovers though, right? LOL!) Give this a read. On your PC, I guess since you don't have a kindle right now :(. Maybe print it out.

You've still got a few weeks before they hit the warehouses. Give this page a once over. Which one of those is nearby you? Take a drive down to the airport and do a little Kindle-lover pilgrimage! Make some notes about what people are wearing. You'll want to get an outfit like that.

Go back a few more times at different times of day. Get a feel for the flow of the place.

The cobras are amazing. The smooth jaw pliers are some of the best tools I've ever used. The small ones are really flipping handy.

When the doors are open the bolts are readily visible/accessible
You can technically cut through the bolt in the middle part#10 in image and smash the hinges them selves out of place.
If you can get rid of the bolt in the hinge it self the door will come off... though there are lots of different kind of hinges and a variety or protected/covered mechanisms that are not easily accessible


A few of my vehicles also had hexagonal nuts on the tops of the bolts so taking power tools to that part would be pretty quick.

The door lock thing is just stuff you can find when searching for help after you lock your self out of a your car... as for the others basically i lookedup the government regulatory standards for minimum guidelines for stress/shear tolerances for the parts involved. that tells us how much force needs to be applied to break the stuff... at minimum so anything exceeding those numbers will get you results which may vary by car type and model etc. http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/rulings/DoorLocks/DoorLocks_NPRM.html bolt stress tolerances are "11,000 N (2,500 lb) or a lateral force of 8,900 N (2,000 lb) is applied while the components are fully engaged" so technically getting bolt cutters or applying directional force exceeding that at a reduced surface area directionally can break the bolts. http://www.amazon.com/Neiko-Heavy-Duty-Bolt-Cutter/dp/B000GVCX94/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top/183-3227865-9997524 and some physics calculations involving the impact force of a sledge hammer as reduced to the surface area of a chisself/crowbar end.


Edit 2: Also I'm not promoting or instructing anyone on how to perpetrate a crime.. just talking about a subject from the perspective of how a car door could technically be removed really quickly with little to no regard to the integrity of the door it self with minimal tools.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm definitely going to second the recommendation for the Knipex Bolt-Cutter (amazon.com link).

I've done a lot of work with 18SWG SS (around 20,000 rings) and they've been fantastic.

Ah, in that case, just wheel it into a hardware store and go at it with the appropriate sized bolt cutter. A 36" model should cut through it like butter. Best of luck!

There are definitely some decent deals to be had; good find. I picked up a third set of 10" Cobras; they're among my most-used tools, and having a third set means I can keep one in the truck for dedicated jobsite duty.

Snips are alright but they do have a tendency to wear your hands down after a while... These are a little easier on your hands, although they have cut fewer rings at a time.

You do have an excellent way with words so good job with that, you make it very accessible.

Personally I use 2 ulocks and I always lock the frame. I don't use the Sheldon brown's method because it is pretty easy to defeat. There is a video online of a guy stomping on the bike and making off with it.

on my bike it would be 8 snips and an effortless removal. A few new spokes and I got your pretty little bike.

My guess would be something like a cigar cutter? Or a pair of yellow keys? Considering you don't have to worry about splintering or tissue damage seems like the easiest way.

Not really a multi tool, but hands down the tool for cutting anything is the Knipex CoBolt cutters. Cut any wire like it is nothing, including large gauge high tensile strength wire that is harder than any chain link. And only 8 inches long.

One time use, there are a couple of different special tools to do these.

1. The cheap tool
   
2. Carpenter/end cutting pliers work as a readily available substitute.
   
3. Side dykes/diagonal cutters can be used in a pinch if you must
   
4. CV boot clamp pliers can also be found at most auto parts stores and are the same as some of the more expensive Oetiker clamp tools.

You also get a lifetime warranty, and I would think linemen who favor klein might have ligit need for bolt cutters sometimes.

A jewelers saw is not going to be up to cutting steel that is that thick.

I can't comment on welders so I'll leave that to someone else.

A decent 36" bolt cutter would likely cut through the lock in a matter of seconds. No need for all the noise of a grinder. Locks are for keeping the honest people honest, that's about all.

Center punch, small crowbar, feeler gauges, screwdriver set, socket wrench set, warded lock set, jiggler set, lifter set, modified extractor bypass tool for Master 175 / Sesame cobo locks, paint scraper, and a pair of folding bolt cutters on special occasions.

Most halfway decent bike locks are some kind of hardened or case hardened steel. A hacksaw isn't even going to scratch them. If you really want to pop a bike lock, your options are things like really fuckin' huge bolt cutters, hydraulic shears, supercooled liquid gas (makes steel brittle enough to break like glass), or an angle grinder, which is gonna be pretty damn noisy. You can pop some older u-locks with a bottle jack, but that's iffy.

This is what I use and it works way better than dykes. They also easily cut nails and such.

Mini bolt cutters (kinpex makes expensive ones, I've seen cheaper ones). Don't use linesman pliers or side cutters meant for soft metals.
