Hey all,

Haven't been in the apple ecosystem since the iPhone 5... I recently purchased an iPad and an Apple TV, and figured it was time to make the swap to an iPhone as well. Then I was like wth, let's get an apple watch too. I plan on pre-ordering the iPhone 11 (black) and the nike+ apple watch 5 (aluminum, silver) tomorrow. I want to get ahead of things and get some extra cables/chargers for my car (carplay) and bedroom/around the house.

I understand that the iphone can quick charge if you get the right cable and wall adapter. I was hoping for some recommendations for both of those things.

Here's what I've found so far:

Aukey PD 18W: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H6BQNGF/

Aukey USB C to Lightning: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RFMHZFF/

Anker USB C to Lightning: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H24PJGP/

I wasn't sure if those cables would actually work, as I had read on some blogs that the only good ones were from apple, but most of those reviews were a year or more old. Is that still the case?

I Also wanted to get a 2 - 7.5 W wireless charging pads? for in the front room/kitchen. Any recommendations on those? What sort of wall adapters would I need for those?

I saw this:

yootech qi charger - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079KZ49PJ/

But it didn't come with a wall adapter, so I was kind of confused as to what kind to buy to achieve the 7.5w charging as opposed to the 5w charging. I've also read that there may or may not be heat issues with wireless charging? Is that a founded argument?

Any favorite brands for cheaper cases for the phone? I like slim TPU cases and then putting my own screen protector on.

How about watch accessories? Are screen protectors a good idea for it? What about bumpers? I'll be using it for swimming alot so I didn't think that one of those bumpers that covers the screen would be a good idea. I'm not really sure how fragile the watch is, but I normally like to keep my devices decently protected without ruining their aesthetic.

Anyways, I realize that's a big ask, so any recommendations (with links! preferably on amazon) would be much appreciated!

A easier breakdown list:

Wall chargers that support PD and fast charge for iphone 11 (preferably 18W, I already have 2 - 12w chargers)
Cables for said wall charger
Wireless charging pad that supports 7.5w charging
TPU case and screen protector recs.
Apple watch screen protector and bumpers and any other helpful things!

Again, I appreciate any insight you can give me! Thanks for the help!

Yep, pretty much relates to how fast it will charge a device. At first, cell phones were about .5A draw (like 10 years ago or so?), but bigger batteries, and faster charging tech allowed more amps. Slowly it become 1A, then 1.5, and so on. Now some new devices require (Well, support), 3 amp chargers. (Especially tablets). And on top of that, different charging technologies, like QuickCharge (Version 1, 2, and now 3.0). That is a feature of both the charger, and the device.

Newer QuickCharge 3.0 devices can charge in about 50 minutes. But if connected to a 1A charger, it may take hours. (But it will 'work').

Even USB cords matter now. If the wires aren't thick enough, charging performance is affected.
It's also important to pay attention to SAFETY of 3rd party chargers. Most phone fire incidents you here about are due to cheap chargers. Here is a comparison breakdown of a legit Apple charger, and a cheap knock off. Amazon and eBay are full of fake OEM chargers.

I only buy reputable, well known chargers and cables for my devices. I leave them plugged in all over my house, and I care about the safety of others in my house. I also buy all the phones, cables, and chargers for my employees (I'm the IT Director). I care about their safety too.

For $20, I personally would rather get a 5x Port QuickCharge 3.0 charger from Aukey.
https://smile.amazon.com/Charge-AUKEY-5-Port-Charger-Samsung/dp/B01BBYJQ5I/ (Affiliate code removed).

Or another wireless charging pad, as I've become so accustomed to them. (I rarely even plug in my phone).

Or, something like this might float your boat:
https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Outlets-Charger-Smartphones-Certified/dp/B01NALRJE2

Hope this helps!

Hi! I’m not sure how much this may help, but I have an iClever 30W charger, as well as a Metrans USB-C-to-Lightning Cable, both of which were purchased on Amazon. The setup has been working perfectly for myself, and the shipping was free, too. Here are the links in case you are interested:

iClever 30W Charger

METRANS USC-C-to-Lightning Cable

Of course, the lightning cable is NOT MiFi-certified, which may be an issue. I have not had any problems thus far. The total was about $34.00, and it definitely quick-charges my X.

Best of luck finding something!

u/Hello_This_Is_IT · 1 pointr/techsupport

I would gander to think that the best charger is going to be one from Motorola. I'm not entirely sure if that's what you wanted to hear, but I'm a fan of keeping things from one manufacturer if possible.

But... when you are talking about micro USB Data/Charging Cables, it really doesn't matter. The "U" in USB means universal for good reason. The moto turbocharger is probably 15 watts. Maybe a good surface charger can give you something higher. I found this guy on Amazon, but I'm not sure that more power = better charge.

Someone else would have to chime in on it, but I think phone batteries are software-controlled and won't take more power than they are rated to from the get-go.

u/BantersaurusRex · 1 pointr/galaxys5

Haha understandable about the reservations.

http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charger-Galaxy-Charging-required/dp/B00JN1ZNT0

If this is the same as your one it is 1.3mm thick. I've seen them down to 0.5mm thick. I'm going to try my case and then perhaps buy a very thin one. Thanks for your help. If it breaks or you have any developments on it I'd love to hear as it'll help inform my decision!

u/cynary · 4 pointsr/GooglePixel

I tried a few, and did some research.

Main tip I have: all wireless chargers I tried, except for the Google Stand, require you to use a QC 2.0 / 3.0 adapter to actually get the max charging speed. I almost returned one charger puck that gives me 10W because I originally tried with a USB C PD charger that can comfortably charge my laptop, phone, power the pixel stand, ...

Note: The charger that comes with the pixel might not be enough. I'd recommend getting something that actually says QC 3.0 to be sure. I grabbed a couple of these for cheap, and they even come with nice cables: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TGSWGQ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now, for the actual chargers:

This one's pretty nice style-wise, and was the cheapest EPP certified one I could find: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RLQD4Y1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Big note here: there are two Anker PowerWave Pad models out there, and only one is EPP. Annoyingly the one that is EPP is the 2018 model, not the 2019 one. You can distinguish them by seeing how the indicator LED and the Anker log align. The one with EPP is below the Anker words, the one without is to the side. That link takes you to the one that has EPP, and can charge at 10W. The main disadvantage in my opinion is that it doesn't have USB-C, instead it's a micro usb port.

This one seems to be the easiest to find on amazon nowadays: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JGTTGYX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There are a lot of variations/brands doing this one, but they all share the same design, the same hardware, and roughly the same price. For this one I'd suggest just going by the cheapest you could find. Some come bundled with QC 3.0 adapter, and it can be cheaper than buying separate if you don't already have one. These have USB-C ports, which is nice in my opinion, but that's a minor consideration.

u/A2CKilla · 2 pointsr/lgv20

I got these
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GQ0K958/ref=psdc_464394_t1_B01B634WNK, a little cheaper (3 less cables) but work very well, fast charging is great and the cable length and braiding is amazing.

u/tbone338 · 7 pointsr/applehelp

Wireless charging is just like normal charging. It’ll be a bit slower though. Make sure you get a quality charging pad that is rated for at least 10W (iPhones only support 7.5W wireless charging). It will heat up your phone a little since it’s wireless and it’s not as efficient, but there is no harm. Your phone was made to wireless charge. It’s a smart phone, it knows what it’s doing. This would be a good starter: Wireless charger. Make sure you don’t have too thick of a phone case on to where it won’t work. On my iPhone X I have the unicorn beetle and it works fine. I know otter boxes are kinda iffy. This wireless charger is also good. I have this one as well as the ravpower one. Only downside with this one is that it does not come with a wall adapter, and you will need a QC 3.0 wall adapter for full benefits. I use this one. The ravpower wireless charger comes with everything you need.

u/MrShakeyDownDowns · 5 pointsr/BlackPeopleTwitter

Always check to see if they're certified. Uncertified cables will do that, but certified ones are usually just as cheap.

Edit: Here's a link to the cables I bought. They are really good. I even ran over one with my office chair like 6 months ago then just bent it back to shape and it works perfectly.

https://www.smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GQ0K958/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/stan_qaz · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

I don't have or want a cluster but I do have multiple Pi, so I'll be hoping you have some good recommendations on a multi-Pi power supply.

I'm using some iClever Boostcube 8A 40W 4-Port USB Wall Chargers with heavy duty charging cables. I'm not seeing any power issues from these chargers with the HD cables, I did with standard USB cables though.

They are a bit under-powered for four heavily loaded Pis but they were what I had on hand. Mine aren't loaded, couple Pi-Holes, GPS/NTP, NAS with onboard M.2 drive and assorted other programs on te rest.

Cables https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B011KLFERG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/StencilKiller · 2 pointsr/googlehome

I'm viewing in the US so I'm not sure if these are available in Canada, but a pretty good alternative might be this charger and this cable, which are about $20 USD together. Just add a piece of double sided tape to secure the home and I think you could have a simple but tasteful solution, and an extra usb charging port for your other devices.

u/VanVlack · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

For something other then the original, any PD2/PD3 from Aukey will do very well.

https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Charger-Delivery-iPhone-Google/dp/B078X58FQK/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1521703048&sr=8-9&keywords=usb+c+charger+power+delivery&refinements=p_89%3AAUKEY

What you want is a charger that supports "Power Delivery 2.0" or "Power Delivery 3.0" with a wattage rating up to at least 18w. 27w would be best as thats is the most the pixel 2 can support and the higher the wattage the more compatible the charger will be with future, more power hungry devices. That will give you the rapid charging rate like the original dose. If you want a bit cheaper you can go with Power Delivery 1.0 (aka just "Power Delivery"). It should charger rapidly if just a bit slower.

You really don't run the risk of hurting the phone unless you got some no name charger that was not correctly designed. The charger will not put out the higher voltages unless the phone talks to the charger and asks for the voltage. At the very most if you get the wrong USB charger it will just charge slowly, which is actually better for the battery in most cases.

u/Hell0Everyone · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Does anyone know any good USB-C Chargers that actually supply the full 18w to an undocked switch? For example, is this charger good for it? I heard the Google Pixel 18w charger is good. Also, if I use a female USB-A to C adapter with my Pro Controller cable (example), would that support the full 18w charging?

I'd like a cheaper, USB-C both ends cable recommendation too.

u/jockninethirty · 2 pointsr/GPDPocket

fn + esc works on mine to slow the fan.

I had problems with my charger not working, but the guy who sold me mine had put a 3rd party Anker charger in instead of the original.

Most chargers I've gotten don't charge it, but I bought one that works perfectly:

USB C Charger with 45W Power Delivery USB-C and 5V 2.4A Port 57W USB Wall Charger for MacBook, iPhone Xs Max/XR/ 8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S9/S8/Note8, Dell XPS, HP Spectre X360 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0759LFT92/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OGy5Cb23M60ZV

Incidentally, it only seems to charge with cords that go from the usb-c slot to the usb-c slot of my onemix. cords that go from the regular usb slot to usb-c won't charge it.

u/fishymamba · 1 pointr/HTC10

I use this $10 one with no problems: https://www.amazon.com/PowerBear-Qualcomm-Foldable-PowerBank-Certified/dp/B01KJ293VA

If the charger says quickcharge, it should work with the phone. Doesn't matter if they list the phone in the description or not.

The HTC branded one is only $18 on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-HTC-Charger-QuickCharge-Certified/dp/B01MDU48S2/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1494986095&sr=8-12&keywords=quickcharge+3.0+wall+charger

Both should charge at the same speed, but I do like the HTC cable a lot. Its pretty beefy and durable.

I've tested a ton of chargers with my USB multimeter and I found that as long as you don't get chargers that are drastically cheaper than the rest($5), they seem to work well.

u/killerjags · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Another Anker supporter here! This is the charger I use. It's a little bulky but it supports 18w power delivery charging and it also has and additional USB A port so you can charge another device. The prongs fold in to make it a bit easier to travel with too.

Here is a smaller one that just does not have the extra USB A port.

u/nbass668 · 1 pointr/Android

a new battery and fresh install will solve your problem.

I had so many issues with my phone charging and battery draining so fast after almost 2 years of use and I wanted to hit it to a wall or throw the phone from the window. then got my self a new set of batteries and a fresh OS install and the phone is as new and so stable

go get this battery, the best ever

Yeah so just get you one of these

AmazonBasics USB Type-C to USB Type-C 2.0 Charger Cable - 6 Feet (1.8 Meters) - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GGKZ2SC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PhiPDbC50ZQMF

And you'll be good to go. The charger you have is never going to give you rapid charging.

(of the products I listed, I can vouch for the cable because I bought the same one. Can't say on the wall charger though but that one seems like a decent one)

Well instead of waiting expensive official wireless charging receiver for my one week old Galaxy S5 device, I recently ordered one that is available on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JN1ZNT0 at just cost of $14 with free shipping.

u/WhipTheLlama · 4 pointsr/essential

According to the spec I think PD requires USB-C on both ends. That's why there are chargers like this one that have 2.4A charging on the USB-A port and PD on the USB-C port.

I just use an old charger at work since I can leave it plugged in all day. Even at home I rarely need fast charging, but it's nice sometimes. If fast charging meant that much to me I would have bought a OnePlus 5t.

If you don't need really fast charging all the time, use the Apple charger. It'll work fine and may even put out 1.5 - 2.4 A, so it won't be that slow.

As I travel I constantly slim down, but on my last trip to India in January for 35 days:

A small tablet/laptop (currently a RCA Galileo that I don't recommend, just for size comparison) which is chargeable off USB

Computer mouse

7 boxers

6 pairs of socks (3 hiking)

2 long sleeve nice-ish shirts

4 drytech shirts (2 long sleeve)

3 pair jeans

1 pair board shorts

Flip flops

1 pair sturdy shoes

Inner shell jacket

Outer shell jacket

Foldable full brim hat

Hang up toiletries bag

GoPro +scuba selfie stick

Kindle

Camera tripod

Nikon camera + lens(18-55) + super small bag (counts as carry on personal item)

*Microfiber travel towel

  • Multi USB charger + cables for all electronics

    Dive computer

    Talon 33

*Gonex ultralight (folded up for travel days)

Don't think I'm missing anything but will update later if I did.

EDIT** - Difference between 2 week trip and 2 month is number of times you do laundry
u/jrm725 · 1 pointr/iphone

Sure. It is. But whatever SoC you have has nothing to do with wireless charging. Wireless charging is simply a coil attached to a battery. When you're HARD WIRE charging it's different because the SoC is communicating with the adapter in that instance. Quickcharge and ios can't communicate when they're hardwired. And they don't need to when it's wireless. Also the port doesn't matter. micro USB, and usb c can all carry the necessary power.

This is the adapter I use for wireless charging.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BF3OZ9W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uHl-BbN1362X0

And here's the pad.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CSQ3MZ6?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

As far as wattage, the iPhone self regulates wattage. I believe it maxes out at 18w HARDWIRED and will never accept more than that. ios needs power delivery to communicate and their own lightning to usb c cable.

I use the pixel wall adapter directly from Google for this method. It's perfect.

Convenience, backup in case the first one gets lost or stops working at an inopportune time, additional features like rounded corners and smaller size or built in battery and more ports, being a hero for that friend who only has one charger but somehow never has it with them.

u/MyNameIsAdam · 1 pointr/Ultralight

What phones? Do they support QC 3.0 or USB C Power Delivery? If not then you should be looking for a 42w charger with one QC 3.0 port and two 5v 2.4a ports, this configuration will provide sufficient power to all three ports simultaneously without any being throttled. Something a long the lines of the Anker Powerport+ 3 Port although there very well could be lighter options. Or as you said grab a dual port charger like this Ravpower to cover one phone and the power bank, and sub 2oz single port to cover the other phone. This will likely end up lighter, but the disadvantage is that you'll have to find two outlets to charge, which understandably can be in high demand on the PCT.

Although if your phones do support QC 3.0 or PD that would probably change my strategy up a bit.

This is better since it allows the RPi to be more flush with the wall.

Have you looked into grommet-style USB hubs?

Hey, this 3 port charger from aukey is the same weight as your two port one but gives you a third port to charge two phones at once as well as your battery pack. Only has one Quick Charge port, but that's probably all you need as you'll only be charging the battery pack with that. The other two normal ports you can use for your phones.

Lightening bolt is low power. Pi 3's are demanding on power supplies. Most of my power supplies arent up to it.

Just bought one of these which I have heard great things about (but havent tried it out). (nearly 7 amps!).

Yes, it is

These batteries also last longer than the original, for some reason.

I was thinking more along the lines of being able to charge my phone all the way on the way into town, and then just charging my power bank in town. I like the flexibility. Trying this ravpowerone next. Comes in at 3.4oz apparently. This sky castle charger is apparently 2.8oz but I don't feel like playing with these anymore. Just want to put my final kit together and be done with it.

You have to use a USB PowerDelivery charger, as this phone doesn't have QuickCharge technology. I'd recommend these (none are affiliate) cables car charger and I typically use the stock charger brick, but I believe that this one should work, but I haven't used it.

u/tb21666 · 1 pointr/lgg5

I get 'Fast-charging' using an RAVPower QC 3.0 Wall Charger, but I rarely actually charge my phone, being I always have externally charged batteries at the ready.

I have a 13" 2017 MBP, and wanted a combo charger for travel that would charge both my MBP and my iPhone. I went with this one that outputs 30W on the USB-C port for the MBP.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCFCRX6

I've been using it for a few days and it works amazingly well. Even when I'm doing all of my normal work stuff with tons of Office apps open, web meetings going on, etc. it still provides enough juice to top-up the battery.

It's no smaller than the Apple 61W charger, but packs more functionality. Anker has a single port 30W charger that would be significantly smaller than the Apple 61W - it's tiny.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DFGKFM3'

I'll probably pick one up once it's finally in stock in the coming weeks.

The moral of the story is don't overlook the 30W chargers, they work just fine for a 13" MBP unless you're doing stuff like gaming or video editing for long stretches of time.

I looked into the Ravpower GaN charger and saw some reviews that it can be a problem with some outlets while traveling. It's thin but really wide, so if your hotel/airplane/work outlet is in a tight spot you may not be able to plug it in.

I have the rav power charger. Some people don't like the size of it, but I keep it in my bag for school so it isn't much of an issue and I can rapid charge my 6p or the laptop. The only downside is that it takes a while to charge normally, so I got this rapid charger for it. It's pricey overall, but I got it when it was on sale, I believe I paid like $40 for the portable charger.

u/CausticSaint · 2 pointsr/ipad

I've got one of these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H6BQNGF/ - on the way. 18W just like the stock one, but with foldable prongs. Anker has a similar one ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GWNYC4W/ ), but I passed on that one because it's got a blue LED in it. Nothing against LEDs, but I've got enough light sources from all my gear and don't need yet another one.

u/anothercookie90 · 2 pointsr/tmobile

I'm not sure what% my iPhone allows fast charging at I used my aukey fast charger right now and it just is charging regularly (phone is at 97%)

I have a pixel charger as well, will check tomorrow if I can fast charge with the pixel charger.

This is the 18W charger I use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H6BQNGF/

From the same company but higher wattage output: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerPort-Certified-Foldable-Delivery/dp/B07FCFCRX6

and it’s just $5 more than the other commenter.

I'm using one of these in a spot where there OEM adapter would stick out too far. Kinda pricy (compared to the cost of the camera!) but I already had it.

I have this one.

It's really small, about the same size as Apple's basic charger, and has folding prongs.

u/nanobra1n · 3 pointsr/amazonecho

Can't talk about the Anker's performance, but I got noise using this charger. I ended up getting [a grounded USB charger] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JLXTQ1U) instead.

u/Burrito_Suave · 1 pointr/ipad

I would get the Anker 18W charger or the 30W charger along with one of their USB-C to lightning cables (or even Apple's own cable)

You can use higher wattage chargers, but there's not a huge difference in charging times once you go over 29W.

u/bofhen · 1 pointr/amazonecho

I was looking for something low profile for the bathroom. I bought this one.

u/mechgingeneer · 1 pointr/Surface

I use two different chargers:

  • This desktop 5-port charger from Lumsing when I'm at home

  • This charger from Aukey when I travel.

On both, I use the standard "smart" ports, not the QC 3.0 ports.

    >I just assumed it was limited due to the USB connection.

I assumed the same, since micro USB is actually limited to 13W. For some reason though, when using the stock charger, the controller limits the power draw to 9-10W - but only when using the stock charger.

This one from RavPower is $15 and is fast charge compatible, whenever the iOS update is released for that.

(Note: it doesn't come with a power block - I picked up this one for $14)
