  • art supplies: You should add one of these to go with these. This drawing pad to go with this set. This watercolor set is amazing. And these for some pen and ink.
  • Gardening: I feel like these are a must have in anyones garden and for whatever reason (probably because I'm a 5 year old at heart) this makes me feel like a badass but also keeps me from leaving my shears somewhere and having to carry all my tools at once. I think this is awesome for germinating.
  • Books: I just read this book and I highly recommend it and I also want to read this one which I was told was amazing. If you have a kindle you should add this or this since you like Doctor Who (theyre basically the reason I want to get a kindle).
  • Doctor who: This is awesome. Id love to have these in my kitchen and this in my bedroom. Maybe just this and this for fun.

Hope you like them and if I win I'd like this or for the raffle this because I really really want it

I had this problem so many times. I hated taking 8 AM classes and I had to do it several times over the years and it sucked every time. But I did learn of a few tricks that may help...

First, I'm assuming you have either an iPhone or Android phone, there are several apps that work really well for people like us. I personally have an Android phone so some of the apps I may have used, may not be available if you have an iPhone but I'll post links for both. Check out these links and try these apps. If one doesn't help, move on and try another.

My wife bought me the same kit for Christmas from Amazon. I haven't started on it yet, but I might this weekend. Everything is laser-cut, but as the previous person said, you'll have to sand the pieces to get them smooth.

You can also get a nice little toy clock with plastic gears and a see-though case. It doesn't take long to put together, but it's still pretty cool. Not terribly accurate, but I didn't expect that for the price. That was Christmas two years ago. I asked for it mostly to show to my grandchildren.

One of the related items is a plastic da Vinci "clock". It doesn't really tell time, as it only runs for a minute or two, but the mechanism is pretty cool. That was Christmas for me last year. ☺ I bought some lead fishing weights to replace the one that came with it. It's supposed to use coins for the weight, I suppose, but the little container kept getting caught up in the works. The 2g teardrop-shaped weight I bought works better.

3 monitors running on 2 computers + ipad

iMac late 2013 27" with numerous upgrades connected to a 27" Apple Thunderbolt display

2012 MacbookPro -- replaced the RAM to 16gb and pulled out the old HDD for a SSD. This machine is mostly running windows at the moment (OneNote, Excel, Stats programs) although the far right monitor in the pic has since been replaced with a 25" LG 25UM56-P monitor.

Noteworthy peripherals:

  1. X-keys 24 (For macros, skipping around through lectures, etc)
  2. Griffin PowerMate JogWheel (for scrubbing through video at high speed with fine control)

  3. Sony UDA-1 DAC with Sony SS-HA1 speakers

  4. WASD Mechanical MX Cherry Keyboard

  5. Mouse in image has been replaced w/ Logitech MX Master. I use Synergy to share keyboards and mice between different computers on the network, even running a different OS.

  6. Oppo PM3 planar magnetic headphones

  7. iPad case is the ClamCase Pro for iPad Air 2. I've tried numerous cases and this blows all the competition away, in my opinion.

  8. Not pictured: QNAP TS-451 NAS, Netgear R8000 Nighthawk router, OWC ThunderBay RAID System, 2x CyberPower Uninterruptible power supply systems, a Macbook Air, Wacom tablet for drawing studyguides in photoshop, staedtler triplus fineliner pens for hand making study guides (these pens are worth their weight in gold, buy them and see for your self), Antec bias lighting, Brother color laser printer, Brother document scanner, gunnar glasses for working late at night (I despise f.lux)

    Other stuff

    Monitor mounts:

    Misc

  12. I definitely cannot live without my nespresso machine -- or my coldbrew coffee system.

  14. Roomba. Especially if you have wall to wall carpets and a furry pet. I have a long haired cat so I got a used 600 series off of eBay. It has re-added maybe an hour or 90 mins of 'vacuum time' back to my week.

  15. BlueApron meals. Saves time, you eat well, doesn't cost the earth. Yep.

If he's working too hard (which it sounds like) maybe gifts that could help energize/relax would be a good idea.
Here's my ideas.
For the bed: Super soft sheets, Some type of super cool pillow/Memory foam/Gel/Bamboo. A wake-up light alarm clock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0093162QS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For his body: A massage/ epsom salt muscle soaks/Gel insoles /yoga session
Maybe some couples coupons? Is there a favorite meal of your's that he loves? Cook him that.
A random thing for gun lover's (my Husband has one and loves it) a gun mat: https://www.amazon.com/Glock-AD00062-Bench-Mat/dp/B00UT9RR9E/ref=sr_1_cc_5?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1517519189&sr=1-5-catcorr&keywords=gun+mat

Don't know if this is something that might interest you, but there is this super awesome alarm clock I want to tell you about!

I have been using this amazing wake up light, 20 minutes until your alarm is set to go off, it begins lighting up from a deep red to an orange to a white or even to a bright yellow if that's what you want! It is been super awesome for my wife and I, especially in the winter time when it does not get light until like 7:00 or 8:00

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0093162QS

u/thelastcookie · 3 pointsr/Watches

Cool, thanks. I've been thinking of picking up one of these wooden clock kits. If I enjoy that, this would be a great next step. Not so complicated but looks pretty cool and I have been wanting a clock.

My passion for watches is a tad frustrating because I am generally really good with mechanical stuff, like bicycles and old cars, but I'm so terrible with small objects. I don't know what it is but I get frustrated to the point where I want to start smashing things very quickly. Watchmaking is simply not for me... but, clocks with gears I can hold in my fingers sounds plausible.

u/Kate925 · 4 pointsr/college

Yeah, the Sonic bomb alarm is a really good one, if you want a similar alarm that looks more discreet like a normal alarm clock, this is the version that I purchased for myself. I'm a super heavy sleeper though, and I've found that I can even sleep through that, so as a last resort, I would definitely recommend a Pavlok but again only as a last resort, it's kind of expensive and literally shocks you awake, but I find that it's really effective and quiet. I'm going to sound like a total shill here for a second, but their customer service is top notch as well, when mine started having issues, I reached out to their customer service to see if there was anything that I could do to fix it, and after walking me through a few unsuccessful attempts, they sent me a brand new one. I was really impressed.

u/Flynn_lives · 2 pointsr/Aquariums

Right on man! Enjoy the upcoming pleasure.

oh, BTW that thermometer stickied to the side of the tank gives you "ball park" readings. I'd suggest getting a indoor-outdoor thermometer like this...

http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-THT312-Outdoor-Thermometer/dp/B0006G2WYU

stick the probe in the water, and set the unit aside. Looks techy and it makes for better readings.

I think by sign, you're referring to my clock? It's this thing: https://www.amazon.com/PAC-MAN-Premium-LED-Desk-Clock/dp/B0161ZWIIO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1541544170&sr=8-2&keywords=Pac-Man+LED+clock but it should not be nearly that expensive. When it came out, it was like $60. I guess it's "rare" now, so scalpers are scalpers... But it is an awesome (if somewhat limited) animated clock.

That's a hard one...I'm going to say the easy bake oven my dad bought me years ago. That's what got me started baking stuff. Eventually moved up to regular boxed stuff, and I'm still going! It's a stress reliever for sure!

Also, my favorite holiday is Halloween ;D

I bought this one.
http://www.amazon.com/Patch-Products-LLC-Talking-Nightlight/dp/B0019IHE8I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453761048&sr=8-3&keywords=ok+to+wake

The good- works great as a nightlite. Turns green when its ok to get up. Kids can push a button to hear what time it is. Controls to change time / alarms are behind a difficult to open door that my 5 year old hasnt figured out yet.

Not so good. Battery back up does not seem to work. I my two year old unplugs it and then I have to reprogram the time. Getting pretty fast at it though.

u/TrialAndAaron · 10 pointsr/DesignPorn

You don't have to stand close enough to see the links. The numbers are the visual marker! This isn't meant to give a perfect to the minute time. Just like those word clocks aren't meant to be. No one would say "Oh that would be better if it had every possible time on it" because that's not the point of it. This clock gives you a rough time frame and is more or less a piece of functional art. No one should be using this to give you the ability to tell time within 10 minutes.

u/Chexjc · 2 pointsr/battlestations

It's one of these. It's really a piece of junk, but it does look pretty cool.

u/Skeeter_206 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I use a Pleson as well, but not the C400, mine seems to work pretty well also, only lights up to let you know if the phone is on correctly(blinks once) or if the phone is on but not aligned properly(keeps blinking). There is no noise from mine either. I guess it really depends upon if you want to spend the few dollars more, but mine was only $15 on amazon. You can scroll down and see the different pleson options.

u/iambinksy · 6 pointsr/BuyItForLife

You won't find a jack of all trades thermometer, nor any other scientific equipment. One reason for this is because they are task specific. Therefore a room thermometer is great up to 140 (imperial scale) or so but useless in your freezer or oven, and will probably melt or pop.

I suggest you get a decent room thermometer, perhaps something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-THT312-Outdoor-Thermometer/sim/B0006G2WYU/2

For cooking, something from here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A1055398%2Cn%3A289809%2Ck%3ACooking+thermometer&keywords=Cooking+thermometer&ie=UTF8&qid=1375659101&rnid=1063498

This product worked for our son. I call it a "reverse" alarm clock, but the product description calls it an "Ok to Wake." We used it in conjunction with a reward system, but it didn't take long. One caveat is that I don't remember what age we used it at, but I suspect it was in the 18-month to 2-year range.

We got my father-in-law a clock like this: https://www.amazon.com/American-Lifetime-Newest-Version-Clock/dp/B019G79V1Q/

Seems like a rip-off for what it is, but it was worth it. I had been considering using an old android tablet and a clock app/screensaver, but I tested it at home and it would occasionally freeze or the screen would sleep and it would need to be restarted/reset.

Not really what you're asking, but I do use a light alarm clock to help wake up. I find it hella useful to get my ass out of bed when it's pitch black. I use the Philips Wake-Up Light and my room gets so ridiculously bright.

We got my two year old a teaching time night light clock Patch Products LLC Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019IHE8I/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_ZPALwbKTKES06 for his second birthday and with it turning off at 7am. It really worked for our older daughter at two but my son still tries to buck the schedule. So your mileage may vary.

There is someone who posted another link for these, but they are still 350+. I think that is ridiculous. It shouldnt cost that much for a clock

I found this one and this one.

Neither seem to have a remote at all, though, so if it's either one of those I'd hesitate to say no. You need the device to have a remote putting out an infrared signal, that the Sonic can learn, and something on the device to receive said signal.

I'm sorry this is so hard for you. SAD really stinks.

The exercise, clean eating, light therapy, and anti-depressants are a big deal in managing SAD. It is awesome that you are doing this already.

It can be frustrating to be doing so much yet feel like it isn't quite enough. A lot of people need to do several things at the same time to manage SAD. Are you taking vitamin D? If wake ups are a problem, you might consider a wake up light alarm clock. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is really good for SAD, too.

I have a really bad time with long, unrestful sleep. The wake up light alarm is a big deal. I keep a light box next to my monitor and have it on most of the mornings when I work. For me, 20-30 min is not enough.

Do you have people in your life who will help you stay engaged in activities? Is there anyone you can ask for help with this?

For me, mid-end of December is usually the worst of the winter. You are not alone. Sometimes it helps to know that you have company. It doesn't lessen the feelings, but it can be less lonely.

Stay strong, days start getting longer in just 16 days!

During a beach vacation, where my bedroom faced the sunrise, I was amazed that my body would just be "done" with sleep, when the morning rays came into my room. I decided to try one of those sunrise alarm clocks, because in theory they sounded perfect. I absolutely hated it! I had the strangest primitive level of resentment for the goddamn thing. Apparently, we just can't replicate the real thing, just yet. I guess the answer for me is to move to the shore, and quit working... Then I can be a "morning person"!

u/BergJilm · 1 pointr/slatestarcodex

A have only used one that I got for Christmas some years back. There seem to be some cheaper ones out there, but I have not checked them out.

Ya, they are a bit expensive unfortunately, but the clock I got was probably the biggest factor in helping me reset my sleep after years of depression induced "insomnia".

u/tastytoast · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

Check out one of these wake up light; set so it starts gradually before your alarm the same time every day. I usually wake up refreshed before the alarm now.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0093162QS/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_121_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=31B06SZD2iL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&refRID=V5G7M7XKT3AYQVFCSND5

I've never had trouble waking up to an alarm. But i couldn't shake that morning fog. These lights are expensive, but it's the one thing that has helped me the most, with zero negative side effects.
