I had this problem so many times. I hated taking 8 AM classes and I had to do it several times over the years and it sucked every time. But I did learn of a few tricks that may help...
First, I'm assuming you have either an iPhone or Android phone, there are several apps that work really well for people like us. I personally have an Android phone so some of the apps I may have used, may not be available if you have an iPhone but I'll post links for both. Check out these links and try these apps. If one doesn't help, move on and try another.
If you want to get an actual clock/alarm that doesn't use your phone, there are some options...

My wife bought me the same kit for Christmas from Amazon. I haven't started on it yet, but I might this weekend. Everything is laser-cut, but as the previous person said, you'll have to sand the pieces to get them smooth.
You can also get a nice little toy clock with plastic gears and a see-though case. It doesn't take long to put together, but it's still pretty cool. Not terribly accurate, but I didn't expect that for the price. That was Christmas two years ago. I asked for it mostly to show to my grandchildren.
One of the related items is a plastic da Vinci "clock". It doesn't really tell time, as it only runs for a minute or two, but the mechanism is pretty cool. That was Christmas for me last year. ☺ I bought some lead fishing weights to replace the one that came with it. It's supposed to use coins for the weight, I suppose, but the little container kept getting caught up in the works. The 2g teardrop-shaped weight I bought works better.

Doctor Who alarm clock! Why? BECAUSE DOCTOR WHO IS AWESOME.
I'd love Captain America on DVD! Captain America is my favorite superhero, so his DVD would be awesome to have :)
bunnicula! Thanks for the contest!
If he's working too hard (which it sounds like) maybe gifts that could help energize/relax would be a good idea.
Here's my ideas.
For the bed: Super soft sheets, Some type of super cool pillow/Memory foam/Gel/Bamboo. A wake-up light alarm clock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0093162QS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For his body: A massage/ epsom salt muscle soaks/Gel insoles /yoga session
Maybe some couples coupons? Is there a favorite meal of your's that he loves? Cook him that.
A random thing for gun lover's (my Husband has one and loves it) a gun mat: https://www.amazon.com/Glock-AD00062-Bench-Mat/dp/B00UT9RR9E/ref=sr_1_cc_5?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1517519189&sr=1-5-catcorr&keywords=gun+mat
Don't know if this is something that might interest you, but there is this super awesome alarm clock I want to tell you about!
I have been using this amazing wake up light, 20 minutes until your alarm is set to go off, it begins lighting up from a deep red to an orange to a white or even to a bright yellow if that's what you want! It is been super awesome for my wife and I, especially in the winter time when it does not get light until like 7:00 or 8:00
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0093162QS
Cool, thanks. I've been thinking of picking up one of these wooden clock kits. If I enjoy that, this would be a great next step. Not so complicated but looks pretty cool and I have been wanting a clock.
My passion for watches is a tad frustrating because I am generally really good with mechanical stuff, like bicycles and old cars, but I'm so terrible with small objects. I don't know what it is but I get frustrated to the point where I want to start smashing things very quickly. Watchmaking is simply not for me... but, clocks with gears I can hold in my fingers sounds plausible.
Yeah, the Sonic bomb alarm is a really good one, if you want a similar alarm that looks more discreet like a normal alarm clock, this is the version that I purchased for myself. I'm a super heavy sleeper though, and I've found that I can even sleep through that, so as a last resort, I would definitely recommend a Pavlok but again only as a last resort, it's kind of expensive and literally shocks you awake, but I find that it's really effective and quiet. I'm going to sound like a total shill here for a second, but their customer service is top notch as well, when mine started having issues, I reached out to their customer service to see if there was anything that I could do to fix it, and after walking me through a few unsuccessful attempts, they sent me a brand new one. I was really impressed.
Right on man! Enjoy the upcoming pleasure.
oh, BTW that thermometer stickied to the side of the tank gives you "ball park" readings. I'd suggest getting a indoor-outdoor thermometer like this...
http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-THT312-Outdoor-Thermometer/dp/B0006G2WYU
stick the probe in the water, and set the unit aside. Looks techy and it makes for better readings.
--Just keep swimming'
Under ten
I don't know why, but I feel like you would like this
Sorry, this one's a bit expensive
Thanks for the contest. :D
I want this mustache clock because it will complete me. :p
X-ray and Vav baby!
It's nice to have happy days. It always makes me more productive when I'm happy.
Whoohooo!
This clock would be amazing because sometimes my phone wants to be weird and not have my alarm go off, so this would help as a back up!! AND it's colorful. Otherwise I have a bunch of MP3s on my WL! :)
Thanks for the contest!
I love this thread so far lol. I've found a couple of things that might be fun:
-Chemistry bacon shirt
-Bacon boxers
-Bacon alarm clock!
I agree that bacon is meat candy ;)
I think by sign, you're referring to my clock? It's this thing: https://www.amazon.com/PAC-MAN-Premium-LED-Desk-Clock/dp/B0161ZWIIO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1541544170&sr=8-2&keywords=Pac-Man+LED+clock but it should not be nearly that expensive. When it came out, it was like $60. I guess it's "rare" now, so scalpers are scalpers... But it is an awesome (if somewhat limited) animated clock.
Oh man. All the bacon.
I found a list of awesome things.
To play. 1
To wake up. 2
To 'w'rap.3
To take a bite.4
To adventure.5
To represent! 6
Bacon is meat candy!
Surprise.
Since we're on Doctor Who things we want but shouldn't buy, have you seen this Dalek Alarm Clock?
Pretty sweet.
That's a hard one...I'm going to say the easy bake oven my dad bought me years ago. That's what got me started baking stuff. Eventually moved up to regular boxed stuff, and I'm still going! It's a stress reliever for sure!
Also, my favorite holiday is Halloween ;D
Edit: I'm a little dense sometimes
I have this. Wakes me up nice and gently with the brilliance of the sun about 2 feet from my face.
This is the shit i say when i look at my phone.
Where can I buy this clock?
It's perfect for my schedule
Edit: Found it! It will be here, uhh.. Tuesday. Right on time!
This is pretty cool!
Thank you for the contest. :)
I bought this one.
http://www.amazon.com/Patch-Products-LLC-Talking-Nightlight/dp/B0019IHE8I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453761048&sr=8-3&keywords=ok+to+wake
The good- works great as a nightlite. Turns green when its ok to get up. Kids can push a button to hear what time it is. Controls to change time / alarms are behind a difficult to open door that my 5 year old hasnt figured out yet.
Not so good. Battery back up does not seem to work. I my two year old unplugs it and then I have to reprogram the time. Getting pretty fast at it though.
You don't have to stand close enough to see the links. The numbers are the visual marker! This isn't meant to give a perfect to the minute time. Just like those word clocks aren't meant to be. No one would say "Oh that would be better if it had every possible time on it" because that's not the point of it. This clock gives you a rough time frame and is more or less a piece of functional art. No one should be using this to give you the ability to tell time within 10 minutes.
It's one of these. It's really a piece of junk, but it does look pretty cool.
I use a Pleson as well, but not the C400, mine seems to work pretty well also, only lights up to let you know if the phone is on correctly(blinks once) or if the phone is on but not aligned properly(keeps blinking). There is no noise from mine either. I guess it really depends upon if you want to spend the few dollars more, but mine was only $15 on amazon. You can scroll down and see the different pleson options.

Pretty sure it’s one of these
There is a lot of them that all look roughly the same if you search flip down clock on Amazon.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0161ZWIIO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . PS: its pretty bright
I bought this a few months ago. It works great for the fraction of the price that Samsung charges. I have been very satisfied so far.

The Philips 3510 (and 3520) do that.
"Relax and drift off to sleep with dimming sunset with 20 brightness settings. "
You basically want the ones with the sunset / dusk simulation
You won't find a jack of all trades thermometer, nor any other scientific equipment. One reason for this is because they are task specific. Therefore a room thermometer is great up to 140 (imperial scale) or so but useless in your freezer or oven, and will probably melt or pop.
I suggest you get a decent room thermometer, perhaps something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-THT312-Outdoor-Thermometer/sim/B0006G2WYU/2
For cooking, something from here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A1055398%2Cn%3A289809%2Ck%3ACooking+thermometer&keywords=Cooking+thermometer&ie=UTF8&qid=1375659101&rnid=1063498
For body, Omron and Braun Infrared thermometers are used in the medical field, in the UK anyway.
I may or may not have this clock hanging on my bedroom wall. [These magnets] are spread around my house as well. :)
You are not alone
This product worked for our son. I call it a "reverse" alarm clock, but the product description calls it an "Ok to Wake." We used it in conjunction with a reward system, but it didn't take long. One caveat is that I don't remember what age we used it at, but I suspect it was in the 18-month to 2-year range.

My wife and I are big fans of this clock. It's worked pretty well with my 4 year old getting up too early or in the overnight.
Basically unless it's green, it's not time to get up.
In case anyone else is suffering like I am, I have a solution:
If you knock yourself out you will be in a haze all day, and hopefully by 8pm eastern you will regain full consciousness just in time for the draft.
How to knock yourself out
Alternatively, you can drink NyQuil and set a powerful alarm clock.

We got my father-in-law a clock like this: https://www.amazon.com/American-Lifetime-Newest-Version-Clock/dp/B019G79V1Q/
Seems like a rip-off for what it is, but it was worth it. I had been considering using an old android tablet and a clock app/screensaver, but I tested it at home and it would occasionally freeze or the screen would sleep and it would need to be restarted/reset.
There is one on Amazon. The Moon is flat and a hemisphere rotates around it to simulate the phases. Apparently, the phase tracking is good.

I got this clock for my elderly mom. It has the time, day of week, and date - very large. You can change the display options a few ways. She really likes it.
It's nice for people who are home all day and can lose track of what day it is.

Have you tried getting her the Day Clock? We got grandma this one from American Lifetime and her confusion over what day of the week it is has pretty much dissipated. It's probably worth a try https://www.amazon.com/Newest-Version-Day-Clock-Impaired/dp/B019G79V1Q/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1509885568&sr=8-4&keywords=day+clock
So I'll wake up..
Thanks for the contest!
Thanks! Is this one the one you are talking about?
Haha the actual link works: http://www.amazon.com/LED-Word-Clock-Displays-Time/dp/B00JPNWR3G/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1453145830&sr=8-6&keywords=world+clock
Honestly, I've considered buying one. The first generation model is much cheaper though. The reviews are pretty shitty now that I'm looking though.
Even better: http://www.amazon.com/Kikkerland-AC22-DK-Clap-On-Alarm-Clock/dp/B003NUIP4C
Um... did you look into this clock at all? (If you did I can see why you would like making a more customized version.)
No one has mentioned this yet. I picked up this sunrise/sunset alarm clock, and it's amazing.
Sure thing, [here it is!] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001ID2EX4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=211DB264CH78C&coliid=I1XK6CZHX9YGNL)

for about 1000x less opportunity cost
We have the Ok to Wake! clock. But there are a bunch of these things.
Yours is still freakin pretty!
You can get new, plastic, flips for cheap from china, I have these:
www.amazon.com/WoneNice-Retro-Flip-Down-Clock/dp/B00A757S76 looks pretty slick, but its noisy.
http://www.amazon.com/ZJchao-TM-Classic-Modern-Stylish/dp/B00EAMZUKE is very plastic cheap, but functional
Off the top of my head...
Magnetic Hour Glass
Waterproof Keyboard
PAC-MAN Clock
Micro-Drone
After a lot of searching and trying to decide which features matter to me(Radio yes, phone doc no) I chose this one. For some reason that model on US amazon is more expensive than the next one(the 3520) but it was cheaper on spanish amazon(where I bought it from). I'm going to try it for the first time tomorrow.
I don't think it has the special birthday feature, but you can buy these and other variants from the market:

We had this one. There's a lot more options for these now than there was then, though.

Day of Week clock
Not really what you're asking, but I do use a light alarm clock to help wake up. I find it hella useful to get my ass out of bed when it's pitch black. I use the Philips Wake-Up Light and my room gets so ridiculously bright.
i need a link.
edit: yall are too slow, i found it
aaaaaand now i cant afford groceries.. thanks reddit
We got my two year old a teaching time night light clock Patch Products LLC Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019IHE8I/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_ZPALwbKTKES06 for his second birthday and with it turning off at 7am. It really worked for our older daughter at two but my son still tries to buck the schedule. So your mileage may vary.
This one does have ugly red numbers, but they don't display til you make a noise - Link

I found this one and this one.
Neither seem to have a remote at all, though, so if it's either one of those I'd hesitate to say no. You need the device to have a remote putting out an infrared signal, that the Sonic can learn, and something on the device to receive said signal.
I'm sorry this is so hard for you. SAD really stinks.
The exercise, clean eating, light therapy, and anti-depressants are a big deal in managing SAD. It is awesome that you are doing this already.
It can be frustrating to be doing so much yet feel like it isn't quite enough. A lot of people need to do several things at the same time to manage SAD. Are you taking vitamin D? If wake ups are a problem, you might consider a wake up light alarm clock. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is really good for SAD, too.
I have a really bad time with long, unrestful sleep. The wake up light alarm is a big deal. I keep a light box next to my monitor and have it on most of the mornings when I work. For me, 20-30 min is not enough.
Do you have people in your life who will help you stay engaged in activities? Is there anyone you can ask for help with this?
For me, mid-end of December is usually the worst of the winter. You are not alone. Sometimes it helps to know that you have company. It doesn't lessen the feelings, but it can be less lonely.
Stay strong, days start getting longer in just 16 days!
During a beach vacation, where my bedroom faced the sunrise, I was amazed that my body would just be "done" with sleep, when the morning rays came into my room. I decided to try one of those sunrise alarm clocks, because in theory they sounded perfect. I absolutely hated it! I had the strangest primitive level of resentment for the goddamn thing. Apparently, we just can't replicate the real thing, just yet. I guess the answer for me is to move to the shore, and quit working... Then I can be a "morning person"!
A have only used one that I got for Christmas some years back. There seem to be some cheaper ones out there, but I have not checked them out.
Ya, they are a bit expensive unfortunately, but the clock I got was probably the biggest factor in helping me reset my sleep after years of depression induced "insomnia".
Check out one of these wake up light; set so it starts gradually before your alarm the same time every day. I usually wake up refreshed before the alarm now.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0093162QS/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_121_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=31B06SZD2iL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&refRID=V5G7M7XKT3AYQVFCSND5
I've never had trouble waking up to an alarm. But i couldn't shake that morning fog. These lights are expensive, but it's the one thing that has helped me the most, with zero negative side effects.
