Plants! They're great to have, I have some bamboo right now. I love it. Here's a really pretty bonsai tree!

And you definitely need a crock pot! They're super handy to have, just throw some food in in the morning and come home to a super easy meal, plus leftovers!

An electric kettle is another essential! Especially if you love tea.

Cheap, cute end tables! I turned the top of mine into a chessboard! Fancy-s up my room a lot.

Here and here are some really nice shelves!

You definitely need a set of knives too!

A really awesome bottle opener!

Here are some really cool glasses.

Aaand the cutest sake set ever.

Okay I'll stop linking now. I just really love household-y things! :D

Thank you for the contest and I hope this list helps!

I love the left side of the room. The right side all looks like it came from grandmas guest room. Which it potentially all did... as did my entire first college bedroom, but it's be easy to liven that up and make it yours. You have a pretty cool minimalist, tech vibe going with that desk, lamp and chair. Keeping the other side of the room more simple will let more exciting things be the center of attention.

With the bedspread, a solid light gray is always safe- you could throw that cool blanket on top in the winter too. It lets you get some bright pillows to add color if you want. With the lamp, a cheap way to go would just to get a more simple lamp shade. Something Light gray or white with some texture would be a start.

After that, some blackout curtains and a long curtain rod would be awesome. I imagine it really opening up the feel of the room.

Now plants, it's crazy how much it really livens up a room. If light is low, give this article a read. You'll find something at Home Depot or Lowes that you can take care of. Put some smaller ones on one or two cheap shelves with what ever other cool nicknacks you start gathering at school and it'll feel like a castle man.

I see a lot of stuff about wall decor on here. Get a poster or two if you want, maybe a mirror. Old maps are cool too. Find an old map of whatever town you're in or from. Maybe a cool (quite) wall clock, but don't go crazy; college dorms can start feeling like dungeons when the walls get too crowded.

For Curtains: I love this fabric http://www.joann.com/home-decor-sheer-fabric--iman-zahra-leaf-luna/13072806.html#start=9 - It's sheer and bright.

As for placement: I agree keep the couch where it is, but maybe take the blanket off the seat cushions and fold it neatly on the back of the couch?

Place some decorative throw pillows on the couch and scoop chair : maybe these? http://www.amazon.com/Pillow-Perfect-Decorative-Damask-Square/dp/B0062YKBKW/ref=sr_1_17?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416252112&sr=1-17&keywords=throw+pillows or these http://www.amazon.com/ElleWeiDeco-Modern-Cadetblue-Damask-Pillow/dp/B0036J86NA/ref=sr_1_179?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416252361&sr=1-179&keywords=throw+pillows

For above the couch you can either buy some canvas wall art or you can search some of your local shops for cheap basic wooden canvas or frames and cover them with fabric you like and stapling them on the back. http://www.brit.co/fabric-canvas-art/

Other items: Near the entry way where the plant is sitting on the floor, Can you hang the bike there? Not too high, just keeping the tires a few inches from the floor.

How to hang a bike: http://www.treehugger.com/slideshows/interior-design/10-ways-hang-your-bike-wall-work-art/

TV: I would wall mount the TV high (eye level when standing) between the windows and hide the cords, you can fish them through the wall or get a kit to run them alongside the window frame and down to the outlet. I would aslo place a floating shelf under the tv for your dvd player and other media: http://www.amazon.com/Southern-Enterprises-Chicago-Floating-24-Inch/dp/B004Z2N6AU/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416251794&sr=1-3&keywords=floating+shelf

Here are a few ways to hide the cords: http://www.ehow.com/how_5163459_hide-wall-mount-tv-cables.html

I would move the trunk and place it on the floor below the TV.

Take the electrical spool and stain/paint as you mentioned in one of the comments and use it as your coffee table.

Take the plant from the floor by the entryway and place it on a decorative stand in front of the window where the bike was with a few other plants you have: http://www.amazon.com/Gifts-Decor-Rustic-Finish-Planter/dp/B008YQ57QE/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416251930&sr=1-5&keywords=plant+stand

I would ditch the small book shelf by the door. Place a wall mount book shelf above where the bike is hung and another small one above the scoop chair on the shared wall with the kitchen. Go to a local consignment shop and look for some nick knacks and things that speak to you to use as book ends or get a shelf with ends like this: http://www.amazon.com/Set-Floating-Shelves-Walnut-Finish/dp/B008AD0JAA/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416253781&sr=1-1&keywords=wall+shelf

I would hang wall mount coat hooks above where the book shelf was by the door and sit a small shoe rack on the floor. Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Amerock-H55662-MORB-27-Inch-Mahogany-Oil-Rubbed/dp/B003UYU1LQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1416254946&sr=1-1&keywords=coat+hooks and http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-Stackable-Horizontal-Organizer-Espresso/dp/B001UTRUOY/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416255049&sr=1-2&keywords=small+shoe+rack

Leave the dining table where it is. Above the dining set I would look for a brightly colored wood or canvas painting or funky clock.

Maybe: http://www.amazon.com/Today-New-Wood-Wall-Marla/dp/B00JRC24QA/ref=sr_1_16?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416253056&sr=1-16&keywords=canvas+wall+art

It looks like there is a guitar in a case in the corner by the bike/window... If so, maybe take it out of the case and display it on a stand- it'll be easy to access for random play time and look cool when not in use.

I know you only mentioned the living room, but I can't help but notice the kitchen. I see you have what looks like a small strip of drywall between the tile above the sink and the start of the sloped ceiling. Maybe place a wall mount paper towel holder on the strip above the sink? http://www.amazon.com/interDesign-Classico-Mount-Holder-Chrome/dp/B00004XSFE/ref=sr_1_7?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416252733&sr=1-7&keywords=wall+mount+paper+towel+holder

Buy 2 of the wall mount towel holders. Use one over the faucet for paper towles and put the other one to the left of the sink above the counter. Use S-Hooks to hang you coffee/tea cups there.

To the right of the sink between the sloped ceiling and the window? it looks like you have a little bit of was space. Maybe add some small floating shelves there to help keep items off the countertop.

Intsead of the metal dish rack I would place a brightly colored drying mat to the right of the sink and put the cutting board where the dish rack was. This will help give you some counter space to prepare meals and drinks.

I have lots of movie/video game trinkets I like to display in my house but I am running out of room :/ so This [On the house needs list] would be super awesome to have because I can display more of my stuff instead of having it all crammed onto the book shelf in my room. Or the greeting cards on my main wishlist would be awesome I like sending cards to kids/adults here on reddit who post they don't get a lot of mail, having a hard time, etc. The pack comes with 36 which in the long run would save me some money because it would be almost ten dollars more getting them at the store.

Thanks for the contest!

u/purebredginger · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I like these for stuff like this. You can get a couple sets and put glasses on the top and in the shelf. It turns out to be really cool looking if you add some other fun stuff in there, like maybe a shaker or a glass of stirring rods. If you put them in a single like then you'll have more visibility and you can play around with these. Best of luck!

u/noxiian · 2 pointsr/AnimeFigures

I know the Detolf is suuuper popular and you can fit a lot of figures into one square but if you're looking to have it more like a floating bookshelf and have a bit more customization with the way your figures are set up, I know someone posted these plastic shelves earlier that they displayed their figures on https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY0E8OB/?coliid=I1E4MD6DO4XMBN&colid=1SEXWSTHNSQKN&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

but otherwise, I think the Detolf shelves are going to be your best bet especially if you've got a lot of figures. Two might be safer to get because you'll be able to spread out your collection and even if its too much space, just gives you more incentive to buy more to fill the spaces ;)

u/autobulb · 22 pointsr/japanlife

Oh! I got the perfect solution. As long as you don't mind a 2x4 wooden board running from floor to ceiling you can support nearly as much weight as you want. I currently have my projector screen hanging off it as well (as a temporary solution.)

Here's my setup: https://imgur.com/tT2ETE7

They are two plastic "feet" that you attach to the ends of the wooden beam. The top foot has a spring which applies a small bit of tension at the ceiling to keep it in place while the bottom supports the weight. You then do whatever modifications you want to the board. The feet have a bit of soft padding so that it doesn't scratch your floor or ceiling. Even if your ceiling has that soft kind of wall paper, as long as you apply it gently it won't dent or scratch it because it only really applies a small amount of pressure to keep itself upright. Pretty ingenious solution I do think.

The feet were around 800 and the beam was around 900 at my home center which they cut to my size for free, so less than 2000 total for that with a few yen worth of rope and screws to hang it.

Alternatively you could do two boards, one for each of the projector supports if you want it to be extremely secure but this works well for now until I make it a more permanent solution. You have various options for how you want to attach the screen to the board, like hooks or whatever.

Edit: Finally found the name. I could never remember it in Japanese. They are called: ディアウォール.

Here is an Amazon link: http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00QM84KDM

Edited price. Cheaper than I remember.

u/hazelowl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. This, of course. While I am no dummy, it always helps to study and what better thing to help with the studying of the proper use than knowing how to properly fill it up? Study study study, they say!
  2. I need a place to set my drink, and I can't lie. That wouldn't be nice.
  3. If I have one of these, then nobody has an excuse to not come over because they all have places to hang.
  4. For this one, we're magical, yes? So of course we need to float.... or at least appear to. Having things within reach is always helpful, and not having to remember to release the spell is even better. Can't leave something magicked up all day, can we? So let's use a little muggle magic, sleight of hand in a way.
  5. Sidestep! Why not have a little humor? Or disguise? It's still a trunk, after all.... Also good for blowing raspberries at people.
Bonus: Well, I need something to hold it on, right? Right? Howe can I be expected to glide about the halls without grabbing like crazy? I've tried before, it's annoying.

    Mischief managed!
u/isitmomentum · 20 pointsr/malelivingspace

Redeeming qualities: the desk and the raw wood floorboards. Besides that, pretty much everything has to change. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Remove the cardboard under the chair and the bed
  2. Get a matching bed set
  3. Wall art or posters
  4. Get your clothes out of a cardboard box and put it in a closet or dresser (get one if you don't have one, they can be free or really cheap on CL)
  5. Organize your desk. Get a paper organizer, pen cup, desk plant. A picture frame of loved ones will add some warmth.
  6. With a room this small, I actually wouldn't suggest a rug. It seems unnecessary and would break up the room more than it needs to.
  7. Clean your whiteboard regularly to keep it white. If you really wanna spend money, get a glass whiteboard.
  8. Higher effort: paint either just the wall where the desk is, or just the two side walls
  9. Higher effort: a floating bookshelf above your desk with tasteful stuff/plants would make the place warmer.
  10. Higher effort: replace your white light fixture to something more modern or just simple. The tangled cord doesn't look good.

    Hopefully that's actionable and helpful.
u/camdendrive · 7 pointsr/makeuporganization

Shelves- From 1-10 the difficulty level was about a 5 with my husband helping. In each bracket there are 3 holes you have to nail into the wall while keeping it even. Using a leveler helped greatly but it took both of us to be able to do it. I'm sure a more handy person wouldn't find it as difficult but I will say they weren't the most user friendly shelves. That said, it took about 45 minutes to do and it looks great! I would definitely say worth it.

u/InteractiveNeverUsed · 2 pointsr/Crystals

Thank you, it’s from Amazon! For the longest I’ve been looking all over for one that was simple, sturdy, and had enough space for my large crystals. I adore it and it was super simple to hang. (:

Here’s the link to it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071W69XMW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/Griggledoo · 2 pointsr/amiibo

They were all super easy to hang up. I'll link the better ones than the ones I had to assemble myself. They are the same price. The square shelves are kind of cool but I would rather have more of the medium size one than the big ones (except for Mega Yarn Yoshi) wish there was a way to order just the medium sized ones. I'll be needed more shelves soon as I already didn't have space to hang my Skymiibo. They were the only ones so I didn't see the point in buying another set of shelves for 4 (8 with their vehicles) so I'm waiting for the 15 pre-orders I have to start coming in before I hang more shelves.

u/LPfor3v3r · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I would love to have these cool 'floating' book shelves. They look awesome, and if you've got a lot of books and nowhere to put them, these would really help.

u/LeftMySoulAtHome · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm a huge fan of floating "invisible" bookshelves. I have a series of these in my office that are staggered up the wall and it looks amazing. You really can't see the shelf; it looks like there are books floating on the wall. :)

u/we_can_build_it · 2 pointsr/DIY
  1. Yes Home deopt does sell wood. If you have no way to cut wood they can cut it for you, but they are never very exact. You can buy a hand saw and a miter box like this fairly inexpensively to make your cuts. HD sells what is called "whitewood" which is fairly cheap and will work but you could use a higher quality wood to get a better look.
  2. Something like this will alow you to attach it to the wall without seeing any fasteners!
u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

these I love them. I live in my parents attic so the walls are slanted and I really can't hang neat stuff on them like that. So I will live vicariously through you if you put them on your walls lol I get to remodel my room within the next year too...so maybe I'll run a contest like this!

u/ColinAllCarz · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

These look really cool - I've seen something very similar at my friend's house. I know you didn't mention it, but here is a handy dandy mattress caddy to store stuff too - looked fun for someone who likes to have stuff handy by the bed :oP.

Look up hexagon wall storage. Someone posted a pretty sweet picture where they'd rolled their skeins into balls and had them in something like this:

It's difficult because the wire is so short between the throttle and stick and the bottom of both is so oddly shaped. I bought a couple of bookshelf thingies https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0053GBBJU/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1501712365&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=invisible+bookshelf&dpPl=1&dpID=21ChSNqkJcL&ref=plSrch. Drilled them and attached to my chair arms via some brackets that could release pretty easily https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00TTZRADW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and velcro'd the hotas onto the shelves. It's not that elegant but allows for a nice boost in immersion. The wire goes across your lap though, which is awkward. I did see a guide once for extending it...

My my my, what lovely bells you've got. creepy santa voice

Moving is always hard, but fun because you get to redecorate. If I were you, I'd display your bells on these floating shelves, spaced veritcally on the part of the wall that isn't covered by your open front door.

Theory: You have 50 bells?

Fact: bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Gallactica

Krennic's ship has been really discounted lately, and is extremely worth it. Such a great model. Get a thing called a floating bookshelf. It makes it so cool to have the wings out.

u/aungst · 1 pointr/hiphopvinyl

Something like this looks nice. I have a similar shelf from ikea that uses screws instead of command strips that i really like. This will be non damaging though. I read briefly in the reviews that you should buy velcro command strips instead of the ones they provide if you plan on hanging something that isn’t super light (like records)

u/marcg · 1 pointr/googleplaydeals

This app is great. For those concerned with keeping this on your bed, next to your head, or if you're concerned about knocking it off, here's a fix.

I slide a thin board between my mattress and box spring, and use that as a shelf for my phone, while the Sleep alarm is tracking. It works great, and I see detailed graphs and data from each night. Also worth noting that I don't see any interference from my partner sleeping in the same bed.

I started with a board, but that was too thin and broke. Then I found this thing at the container store, which works pretty well.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005JPAY9I

I still think I prefer just a simple board though, since it was lower and had less chance to get in my way as I was exiting bed.

u/Kizuitah · 3 pointsr/cardistry

These shelves were given to me as a gift back in 2013, and I've just decided to put them up now because they conveniently fit playing cards nicely. I'm not sure if these are the exact ones but I found these on Amazon which are the same dimensions and color.

I have the smaller ones and they worked well for two individual Pops. The bigger ones might hold 5-6 Pops unless see if can find risers that fit inside/ontop. Also may want to hang upside down if want to show your Pops feet or not worry about lip causing tight fits on riser .

u/DesolationRobot · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

There are some 3M command shelves. They're quite small and hug the wall pretty closely to avoid leverage against the adhesive.

If you want anything bigger than that then you're putting holes in the wall. Pro-tip: rub some paste wax or something slick on the edge of the shelf that's going to be making contact with the wall. Makes it much less likely that it sticks to the paint and pulls the paint off the wall when you go to remove it.

u/Ares_Kills1632 · 2 pointsr/ShonenAnimeCollecting

They're super easy to put up. They come with strips of paper for each one that lets you mark out where the screws go so they're level and the correct distance, then you just put the shelf onto the screw heads and it'll slide down a bit and lock the heads in.

u/speedisavirus · 0 pointsr/gaming

I don't know that I'd trust 3m strips to hold my thousand + dollars of electronics but that's just me. If I was going to do it I would do something like this painted black.

u/unicorndanceparty · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I would actually really love this shelving for my room as long as it is in your price range? If not that's totally ok.

u/washichiisai · 7 pointsr/books

Alternatively, you could use these, which create the same effect without damaging books. It's a bit more expensive, but I've liked them.

I still recommend having or finding a "sacrificial" book to put on the bottom, though. It won't get damaged, but getting to it will be a pain.

Just off of Amazon! I believe this is what I ordered, this is the largest shelf in the set. I used more sturdy anchors than what it came with to be safe!

u/cswankers · 1 pointr/funkopop

Np, This is the shelf if your’re interested.

This is a tough order for a makeover!

Couch isn't bad, but if you want to upgrade: one | two | three

Accent Chairs & Stools: one | two | three | four | five

Coffee Tables (your current one might be fine): one | two | three| four | five

Storage: one | two | three

Rugs (black and white or saturated colors seem to be the trend with this style): one | two | three | four | five

Lighting (I doubt you can install fixtures in your rental, so go for swag lights with cords): one | two

Did a quick search on Amazon for floating shelf bracket and found several solutions including a metal french cleat that supports 200 lbs. Last year I used this https://www.amazon.com/Rockler-Blind-Shelf-Supports/dp/B001DSZ35A/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1469580161&sr=1-1&keywords=floating+shelf+bracket for a canary wood shelf.

Thanks! Here’s the link from amazon InPlace Shelving 9084674 Slimline Floating Wall Mountable Shelf with Invisible Brackets, Black, 48-Inch Wide by 8-Inch Deep by 1.25-Inch High https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N0T5B0M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hx5VCb9X6JNCK

u/GoTeamJosh · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

Thank you! They actually came from Amazon. Here's a direct link. They're super cheap. Not top notch quality or anything but they get the job done.

u/Cursor_Disco · 0 pointsr/malelivingspace

I'm not sure how much you're going for style vs function, but I've seen tables around that hook or insert to the side of your bed that would work for you. Like this one.

Otherwise, a small table to the side of the bed would work. I have a full night stand on one side of my bed, and a nicer version of this metal/would table on the other.

u/ambelie · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

/u/Quakemz and I use these.

This is what mine looks like. The top shelf is keycap holders, I've been debating buying more keycap holders and more shelves because I have A LOT more keycap sets than boards.

u/tanshin · 1 pointr/oculus

Shelves!

You Welcome.

u/_Lunch · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

You definitely need some invisible bookshelves!

you're a big girl now!

u/pbaldovin · 1 pointr/hometheater

i added a better office photo in imgur. i can move the shelf so it's to the right of the desk then somehow have the speakers ear height etc. all i came up with was.. not so good me thinks?

u/mcholeinpants · 2 pointsr/DIY

Yeah those brackets are ruining the look.

Get these https://www.amazon.com/Rockler-Blind-Shelf-Supports/dp/B001DSZ35A or some sort of cleats, anything going into the studs will support the shelf.

u/bitchofBacchus · 2 pointsr/IndoorGarden

I did something similar i think. My books wouldn't all fit into the bookcases I own and I wanted to display some of the nicer, older editions I have, so I bought a dozen of these Umbra conceal floating shelves and just covered a wall with them.

u/5centwhores · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Burnes-Boston-LL2932-Level-Black/dp/B000B50F18/ref=zg_bs_3743991_4) would be cool to hang up and show off your collection

u/ptbus0 · 1 pointr/PS3

These look like they'd work if you have a way of cutting off extra metal, I'd probably get two though and put them side by side. The bigger version's too long.

u/RejoicefulChicken · 4 pointsr/japanlife

I've never used them, but this sub has sometimes recommends 3M Command Strips even though it states not for use on wallpaper. Sounds like they might fail if it's too humid.

Two options from this thread are picture hooks (available at home centers, LOFT, Tokyu Hands, etc.) that leave an unnoticeable to minimal holes. You may want to buy some wallpaper filler to fix it. Or, for bigger applications, 2x4 achors (available at the same places) if you like the look of that.

Personally, I've always used shelves to display photos in rental units.

u/purewhispers · 56 pointsr/books

Or you can just get one of these and not have to ruin a book in the process...

u/Sciencey · 2 pointsr/playingcards

I picked these up not too long ago. $16, two large shelves can hold 22 decks sideways, the middle ones hold 16, and the small ones hold 11. 98 decks total, and I've been laying some down on top of the full shelves so easily over 100 decks.

u/youmaybetheproblem · 2 pointsr/TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

The shelf is actually one of those “invisible” book shelves. My boyfriend had some books there and recently moved them so I just stuck the vase and flowers on top 🤷🏼‍♀️. Here is the shelf. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0053GBC4E/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1519162517&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=invisible+book+shelf&dpPl=1&dpID=21NIUCh3HkL&ref=plSrch

I used these, which Amazon doesn't seem to have in stock. Didn't find a lot of products out there when I was originally searching.

Judging by the notches in the back, probably something similar to this

u/SupremeLeaderSnoke · 2 pointsr/starterpacks

The one I got is just a plastic shelf that is held on with those foamy sticky strips.

it's this one.

u/Frodo-Lives · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Here is the link to the shelves, and the MacBook stand is the BookArc by 12 South that I got used on eBay for about $20.

Alex says he would dig if we got these, too. Class-ing up our house up and all!

I think it's these

u/RSFaria803 · 2 pointsr/funkopop

I live in a dorm room and can't put holes in the walls, I use these instead of Ikea shelves

EDIT: I display in box

I'm personally going to buy one of these shelves HERE.

u/TexanSince1847 · 2 pointsr/DIY

The smallest keyhole hangers might work. You have to route a recess for them.
If that doesn't work try : this

u/Eccentric-Platypus · 2 pointsr/funkopop

Oh do I have some good news for you:

black version

And they adhere to the wall with 3M command strips, no nails or screws.
