(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NYF8S4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) works great, no smell, plenty of airflow, relatively loud at 100%, virtually silent when turned down to below 30% with some sound absorbing foam around the intake and fan. 4" would have worked for my small setup. I'm pushing through the filter which is outside my grow area with no problems. Don't forget some ducting and real duct tape. Clamps aren't really needed at these speeds and pressures if you have good tape, but they won't hurt.

Check the bucket plant guide for tips from the community. The best kind of experience will be your first hand experience. You should expect to kill some plants before mastering the proccess. In a Space Bucket, the main challenge is keeping the plant as short as possible. If you keep it low the lighting will be more effective, and the flowers more awesome.

Congrats on finding the seeds and getting this far. If you are a first time grower, then I would highly recommend a controlled environment starting with a tent. I have done it both ways, and outdoor seasonally, and you will benefit a lot from having a confined space you can control as you learn. Contrary to popular belief, it isnt "just a weed that grows". To have a quality finished product you need a good amount of time and energy spent on the plants. However, because the growth takes time, as a first time grower, you can purchase the items you need as you need them to build out your grow. I have both of these products and can finish 4 plants in a tent nicely in about 100 days. I know people have feelings about using off brand lights but I have had zero issues, ever. On thing to do though is to not let the plants grow too tall. Rather train them to grow like bushes by topping them early and continuing to top the new nodes at a reasonable height, Id suggest 30 inches max (from top of the pot).

For veg, you will be able to get by a few weeks or maybe a month without a tent, but the light will become annoying.
For soil. I highly recommend mixing fox farms happy frog and ocean forest. This will prevent you needing to use fertilizers really at all until flower time. Yes it is kind of expensive, but it is worth it. I have tried the experiment of making soil myself... it becomes outrageously priced so fast and unless you are really good at chemistry/botany you can totally fuck some shit up. Now even in veg, your plants are going to begin to smell. But by flower time you will have a real problem on your hands, even with a tent. So next you will need a carbon scrubber. I use this one off amazon for a tent and have zero complaints while the tent is closed. I also have the filter hanging in the tent and venting out the side into the attic of my rental. Zero smell, unless the tent is open (which you will want to do in the beginning, but over time you will learn to not go in everyday unless you need to). With this item, every other grow you need to replace just the carbon canister part of it. It is easy to do and worth every penny.

Dwarf white or dwarf purple isopods are a good bet because they are generally too small for the ackie to notice and are tolerant of the high temperatures in the cage. I would consider getting maybe 10-20 and establishing a culture in a tupperware tub before introducing some into your ackie's enclosure. I have also had good luck with powder orange isopods. All three of these isopod types appear to breed pretty quickly so they should take off.
As far as springtails go, as with the isopods you want to establish a culture and let the population grow for a little bit before you begin adding bunches into the enclosure.

Let me try to help you figure this out. These will give off quite a bit of heat (which is great for winter northerners) but summer can get pretty hot. You will want to seal off the room somehow as well, like the other comments said, fuck bugs! This can be hung maximum 1.5 feet before you burn the plant so you might be ok with some training.
600 watt will cover about 4 x 4 foot area so squish each plant in that space roughly and bunch all the branches up like roses, this will give a good lollipop shape and save space but at the same time maximize the light of the main colas. I just hope you have enough headroom for flower stretch!
Hopefully you have some fans laying around to simulate a gentle breeze and help temp control. I try to be as crafty as possible before spending a ton of money, (the light was an exception). Use what you have around the house or go to dollar stores for like white paint sheets to create your own tent for cheap, until you can invest more.

The kratky method is a great beginners method to get into hydroponics. I currently have about 30 plants all doing the kratky.
General Hydroponics is a good brand and mix of nutrients. Its simple to use and doesnt require a scale to mesure stuff out. Use a tablespoon to measure stuff or a syringe.
Buy the PH up/down from GH too but be warned you will need to dilute it first or youre in for a fun time trying to correct your PH. (let me know when you get to this step and I can give better directions.
Get a simple PH tester. It will make your life a lot easier. Once I figured out that adding nutrients to my water brought my PH to around 5.9 I stopped testing everytime. (but i recommend that you do use it everytime)
You DO NOT need to grow in soil first, but like /u/BroposkisRump said you can just be careful washing off the roots. GOTO the youtube channels mentioned on check out Khang Starr's video first.

Has an actual power draw of 200w. When rating LEDS especially these cheap blurples you need to look at actual power draw. That gives you the raw wattage of the light. (I’ll explain how they get away with this clever piece of marketing later if you wish). Anyways when it comes to lighting you want to fall within a 30-50 W/sqft (watts per square foot) your 4x4 has a footprint of 16sqft to figure this out you take your actual wattage 200W and divide by 16sqft the result is 12.5 w/sqft. Also you’ll notice in the description the light is rated for a 2x2 for flowering.
Start small. It'll save you money, let you get your feet wet, and help you learn how to grow better, and then you can buy bigger.

So for about $420 (heh), you can get your foot in the door and start growing. This is a nice setup too, you can probably save $100 by shopping around, buying used, or doing-it-yourself. I've left off a few odds and ends like dryer duct, Fiskers for trimming, weed fabric pins for low-stress training, pitcher for watering, Mason jars for storage, but you can likely find those or suitable replacements around the house without spending money.
I also have a Raspberry Pi 3 ($43) with Sense Hat ($37) and metal case ($15) in each of my grow tents to log temperature/humidity and other things. I'm interested in eventually using the GPIO functionality to water my plants too. Not critical, but definitely a nice thing to have, especially if you're the hacker type. I'm glad I bought a good intro setup because I still use it now that I've upgraded. I now have a 3' x 3' GG Shorty tent with HLG 300 LED for flower, a 2' x 2.5' GG Shorty tent with two 400W Roleadro COB's for veg, and my "intro package" is now my germination/cloning tent (and drying tent too since several people suggested that too). Being able to have three tents (germination -> veg -> flower) working simultaneously is increasing my output quite sharply. I'm doing this to help a relative with cancer, so you may not need to go quite as crazy as I did.
You mentioned using 35+ gs (~1.25 oz) a month. You probably aren't going to be able to grow that much given the constraints of tent size and light wattage (plus being a first-time grower! You'll learn a lot!). So once you get used to it, you'll probably want to buy more stuff. Marijuana isn't addictive, but growing marijuana absolutely is.
Once you've got your hardware, the variable cost is seed (~$10), soil (~$5), nutrients (~$20), and electricity (~$30). From that, I'm going to estimate you can grow ~1.5 ozs (you can do more as you learn more though). So you're looking at ~$40/oz after you've made the initial hardware investment.

As a vague generality, if you take a plant and put it under a light and give it water, it will grow, and with enough time, will produce -something-. Obviously, you think it takes a bit more, so that's why you're here. When it comes to indoor growing, there are many things that have to be taken into consideration because we are first removing all of the things a plant requires for survival then take it upon ourselves to be the one to provide it. To make these things apparent, we need to account for all of the things deprived to the plant by removing it from the outdoors:
The Law of the Minimum states that a natural system is only as strong as it's weakest input. The number of factors that can limit a plant's health are near limitless, but these above items need to be addressed to begin encroaching on the realm of 'happy, healthy plant'. The information below will be debated by some, but here's my stance: Growing indoors is an energy intensive activity, and the costs can get out of control quickly. My philosophy is that I want the biggest possible return on my investment of money, time, and energy, so I aim to produce the best possible product. Ambient airflow, air pressure, and humidity affect all aspects of growing; changing one, changes the other. For example, setting up a exhaust in the tent that can move air out at a rate higher than it flows in causes something referred to as a Vapor Pressure Deficit, in which the pressure of the air literally sucks moisture out of the air and restricts the plants natural "respiration" process, resulting in upward curled leaves on plants, and stunted growth (this is fixed by using a fan speed controller and using an appropriately sized fan for the space). You want all the air inside of a tent replaced every 5 minutes in order to cause no interference, but a plant can usually take significantly more pressure before showing signs of stress. Like temperature, this factor is unique to each type of plant, so YMMV. If you're not going for smell control however, a minimal amount of air flow will suffice. The less interference you have to introduce to a grow tent, the less variables that have to be accounted for. Generally, you want your humidity around 70% for leafy greens and herbs, and 40-50% for anything that bears vegetables or fruit. This isn't a panacea, but in your case it gets you to 'close enough' with the least consequences. Adding degrees of varying control will give you the ability to adjust your environment accordingly to meet these unique requirements.
There are many, many ways to measure light, and it can be as simple or as complicated an ordeal as you like. I like to break it down and compare the earth to the sun like we compare a grow tent's square footage to wattage of the grow light. That said, the sun produces 3.86 x 1026 watts of energy, or 380,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 watts. Most of that energy goes off into space, but about 1.74 x 1017 watts strikes the earth. (ie: 174,000,000,000,000,000, or 174 quadrillion watts). Broken down to the 197 million square feet that makes up the surface of the planet, approximately 100-130 watts of sunlight are needed per square foot of growing space in order to create an environment suitably similar to sunlight. In your environment, you need approximately 1,000 watts of light in order to get the same kind of results you'd see with old fashioned direct sunlight. It should be noted however that you can just as well get away with weaker lights (I use 600 watts in the same footprint dimmed to 450W with no major problems, and recommend the same here to avoid ventilation complications).
Now, what kind of light do you need? pre-tl;dr If you're operating on a tight budget, get an array of T5s and call it good. You can get away with just about anything, although anything in the 5500k spectrum for a T5, CFL or HID light will be perfectly suitable. For LED lights, don't trust the advertised wattage, and look at the actual wattage rating of the product to get a good ballpark estimate of what kind of experience you can expect with any given light (while manufacturers can fudge light spectrums on LEDs, they can't fudge true watts). Some lights have more abstract advantages over others (e.g. par levels, spectrum ranges, etc), but for simplicity's sake we'll not worry about those.
CFL lights are far and away one of the cheapest ways to get into indoor growing, and the lights produce very little heat, minimizing needs for ventilation. An added benefit of being a cool light is that plants can be extremely close to CFL bulbs without blanching the leaves, enablng a grower to create grow spaces in extremely confined areas. The downside is clutter and the requirement to construct a hood: You would need 20 50 watt CFL bulbs to match a single 1,000 watt HID bulb, and 20-bulb hoods that fit in a 2x4 footprint don't exist so far as I know). Plants grown on fluorescent lights tend to experience less dense growth than HID when grown using equivalent amounts of light wattage per square foot. Fluorescent lights are good for around 10,000 hours of use in growing. You can expect to pay around $75-$125 for a CFL array, and around 12 hours constructing the array itself.
T5 lights have all of the advantages of CFL, and fewer disadvantages (less clutter, no need to build a hood) at the exchange of increased cost (a bit higher than HID for the really nice arrays). You can expect to pay around $175 for a T5 fixture. T5 and CFL lights can be kept around 10-12" from plants.
HID lights are the industry standard, forming a balance between cost, output, and required infrastructure to support. The cost is comparable to T5 lights, but come with a number of distinct advantages. Science aside, an HID will produce denser, fuller plants through all stages of growth using the same wattage of T5s and CFLs and are produced with a significantly lower failure rate than many LED units. HIDs produce a LOT of residual heat, but this problem has long been accounted for with the advent of ventilated hoods. These hoods are designed to perfectly mate with HVAC components, allowing for cold air to be blown directly over the hot bulb, and none of that residual heat ever making it's way into the tent. HID lights are kept 12-16" from the plants
LED lights are the new kids in the block. Beginning with the trendy magenta glow, LED lights were designed to utilize specific spectrums of visible light and eliminate spectrums deemed 'harmful to plants'. We now know that to be farce, and nearly all of the highest end LED arrays are full spectrum COB (chip on board) arrays that can go into the thousands of dollars in price (or about the same as a T5 array, if you're savvy enough to build one yourself). There are a number of magenta lights that still exist, and they can be utilized to great effect (I've done a number of grows through flower on a Mars Hydro II light), however this information comes with a disclaimer: Many LED light manufacturers lie, and many LED light fixtures fail. While many manufacturers will list data sheets and cite numbers til they're red in the face, most LED lights are manufactured in China, and many more fail to meet the quality control standards of the original design. If you want a good comparison, consider the 'hoverboard' fiasco last Christmas, with thousands of knockoff boards catching fire across the world. Speaking of fire, the latest and most powerful LEDs produce a LOT of waste heat, enough so that a large part of many arrays include a number of heatsinks and fans to keep them cool. This bothers me, because instead of being able to pipe hot air away from the tent in a nice, single direction, the LED light is piping out hot air in every direction. I generally find my tents run around 10 degrees (fahrenheit) hotter when I run LED lights than HID. LED lights are kept 18-24" from the plants.
Assuming a non-defective unit, LED lights have an expected lifespan of 30,000-50,000 hours. A single LED light is worth the price of 3 HID bulbs. LED Lights offer even higher PAR levels than HID (often described a bit inaccurately by some as 'light penetration'), creating compact, bushier plants than HID lights using an equivalent wattage. LED makes sense if you're investing in this hobby for the long term, and want the most out of your money.
All of the above taken into account, and with your space, I recommend a 4 foot 450w T5 light, or 600W HPS HID light with a dimmable ballast and cool hood, dialed down to 450w to increase bulb lifespan.
My Monstera perked up even more throughout the day today, so I remain hopeful for both of our battered plants!
I'm still figuring out grow lights myself so I don't think I'm the best person to ask for recommendations. I've tried to "research" it on YouTube but the best videos on grow lights don't focus on household/LED use, the videos are definitely more for folks growing pot (which is cool, no hate, but they're talking about different types of lights, different scale production etc.). I tried to find a clip-on grow light like that made in USA (or at least not in China) but I wasn't able to find one. (I've been trying to reduce the number of products I buy made in China in support of the protests in HK/in protest of the Uighur imprisonments.. not that anyone will notice though!) If not, 400w HID (either Kijiji or Amazon options) including Metal Halide for veg, HPS for flower, will work in that size tent, although you should shoot for 50w/square foot (true watts from the wall). Magnetic ballast is cheaper but more cumbersome, digital is more money but can be dimmed most of the time and switch back and forth from Veg/Flower easily.
Ventilation: 4” or 6” inline fan (for fresh air) ($40 Home Hardware, either one), and a 4” or 6”exhaust w/carbon filter on Amazon, depending on what size tent. Couple of clip on fans and an oscillating fan to circulate (might have to mess with the oscillating with space, or get a wall mount one $$)
Random rambling notes:
You can be as frugal or spend as much as you want with this hobby. I did the half and half approach with sourcing my lights on Kijiji ($50 for 400w hps and $25 for metal halide that I wired to remote ballast) with new tent, fans, medium, fertilizers, ph pen (don’t cheap out), and other accessories, and I could say the initial investment was just at about $1000.
I wish I went with a 4x4 to start for shape and heat dispersion (2x4 is fine for 400w in the winter, harder to control during summer and growing two plants into a rectangle can be a pruning job itself ), 2x4 is fine for 2 big girls comfortably, 3 is a crowd but possible. Or you could go SOG growing method and pack more in, but I like to make table top plants as much as possible. I know this grow is in Canada so go ahead and get 1 or 2 cheap humidifiers for vegging during winter (it’s coming :D), but you’ll have an easy time during flower to keep RH low for flower. Summertime you’ll have an easier time w an air conditioned apartment, it should keep the humidity in check as well. Also get a couple of thermometers for the tent, one maybe with an outside probe to keep outside the tent to check during lights out. Also, you’ll find aluminum tape handy to cover pinhole leaks from less expensive tents (Vivosun is affordable, they have great customer service that will compensate any flaws in their tent w pinhole light, or bite the bullet and get a Gorilla or Mammoth tent 💵 💰). I got like 4 ounces of bud from that investment, but it was a pain too use and I had so many problems, that the 2nd and 3rd harvests; were so bad I was dry for 3 months.

We're growing in a basement. It can get fairly cold in the winter so hopefully the HPS will even out the temp a little. Otherwise we do have a space heater we can turn on occasionally.
I was planning on just setting up an oscilating fan in the bud room. But with this new money I was thinking we could get the actual 6in fan that goes in the hood.
Do you use ducting for ventilation? Is it possible to connect the ventilation from the grow room to the ventilation from the dryer or water heater thing? There are ducts that go right through the grow room. Otherwise there's a window in the grow room but it's pretty easy to see from outside. I don't need it to be super discreet since it's medical but I don't want to advertise what we're doing either.
I also was considering getting an actual grow tent. Right now we kind of just surrounded the area where the plants are with mylar from emergency blankets and tents. I'm a little worried about them getting either too hot or not being sealed enough to keep the light in.
Any thoughts on the above info is definitely welcome :) We're very much new time growers. We harvested once and it was a pretty small amount, but we got high off of it! So goal semi accomplished haha
It's early dude. That plant needs to go until October at the earliest. You can give it some nutrients, maybe grab a quart of an organic nutrient like maybe this or this.
the castings will help, but they take time before those nutrients become available. the castings must go through the krebs cycle prior to the nutrients becoming available. it might be futile. the liquid nutrients above will be immediately available for the plant.
as far as the blackstrap molasses goes, it's not a fertilizer for your plants. it is food for your beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae which will help promote a healthy root system. there are other carbohydrates out there like sweet that will help with flavoring, which i recommend above the blackstrap molasses.
you cannot tell the ripeness of the plant by looking at the hairs. different strains will behave differently. i have some strains that will still have all white hairs when i harvest all the way to strains that have orange hairs week before they are ripe. you can tell the ripeness by getting a 20x microscope and checking out the trichomes (crystals). they will start out clear and start to get cloudy then orangish or amber in color. as they get more amber this indicates higher levels of CBD's and less of the THC. most growers like to get their plants go until there are 25-50% amber trichs. i know it's hard to wait, but it'll be well worth it. you can snatch a couple of the bottom branches for now, but if you are patient she will yield 2-3x what she has on her now. happy growing.
This post will get downvoted to oblivion, but sadly this is simply the wrong sub to ask this question, unfortunately. As usual when this question gets asked here, every answer is ignoring your query, dismissing your budget, and instead is insisting that you NEED to spend 2-3 times as much instead. This simply isn't true, and this elitist attitude creates an unnecessary obstacle to people wanting to get their feet wet in this hobby.
You can achieve perfectly acceptable results with a 600 watts LED like this one..
Similarly, this one is a good choice for getting started.
In point of fact, there is a ton of snobbery and bro-science in this hobby. Interestingly the latest research on this subject seems to indicate that tuned-spectrum grow-lights might even be a waste of money, and that bog-standard 5000k LED light bulbs might be perfectly adequate for maximizing indoor-growing yields, at the least.
The Impact of Light Intensity and Spectrum-Tuning on Cannabis Yields
>The results show that holding all else constant, cannabis yields are primarily driven by the intensity of the lighting, whereas there is little evidence that tuned-spectrum lights have a significant increase in yield versus general-purpose, broad-spectrum lights. It had a lot of good reviews, and it seemed pretty close to sunlight. So far I think my herbs are doing quite well (my cilantro and dill have really taken off) but I would absolutely love trying to grow fruiting plants like tomatoes or peppers inside if it's at all possible. I live in an apartment in Minnesota with no balcony, so I'd really love to find a good alternative to a yard! :)

I don't think the wattage of that light is high enough to support plant growth. The spectrum/temperature/K is sufficient, but you need more powerful lights. If that makes sense.
I have used these in tandem with a south-facing window; they are not enough to support my plants without any help, but prevented etiolation in most of my plants: some had to be moved extremely close to grow normally so... (plus I found the purple unpleasant)
I invested recently in this light, which is pricier, but has been supporting the plants on its own -- no window. It's also white which is a lot more pleasant to look at IMO. Note the specs on these and see if you can find something that works for you! Best wishes
A $210 pH meter strikes me as an extravagance for this level of grow. You can use pH strips or better off, use a small standard soil pH tester.
The 4 inch carbon filter will work, but it's going to need an inline fan and some ducting hose.
Personally, I'd just get a small grow tent that fits the dimensions of your closet, and scrap the mylar and poly film. Then you can duct the fan and filter directly into your tent.
The tent only needs to be about 3 or 4 feet tall. You can place it on a table or stand if you want. Then you can sit in a chair when you tend your plants.
Some sort of adjustable rope system to hang the lamps.
I've grown more than a dozen crops indoors, and I've never worried about adding CO2 to the grow space. I'm aware of the benefits, but this might be more of an advanced consideration. If you're looking to economize, this would be one thing I think you could definitely cut for at least the first few grows.
One thing that could benefit you might be Marijuana Horticulture by Jorge Cervantes. He's been updating and revising this book for 35 years. So it's pretty comprehensive, and it can take you from first grow all the way up to how to grow top shelf bud. It will tell you exactly what soil and nutrients you need, which can save you a lot of money versus overpriced fancy boutique nutrients and designer potting soils. And it can help you troubleshoot the inevitable problems when they occur.

Beyond the actual science of which light is best, it really depends for many casual plant owners whether they want the light to look "decor friendly" or they want it to do a bang-up job of growing their plants. Honestly, there aren't many effective lights that look like they belong in a residence. No matter what anyone says, when it comes to grow lights, you do get what you pay for.
Below are 5 well-recommended options. I own all these (and others), having tried many entry-level grow lights. They're ordered by price, low to high, from $15 bulbs that go in ordinary lamps to an excellent entry-level grow light for about $175. The lower end work best as a supplement for natural light. The higher end will let you grow almost anything, even without a window.

They have a more powerful one called PAR38, but the ones I got are already pretty bright so I think they are best so smaller spaces. Although it is worth mentioning that I got three of the BR30's because I put them in my existing fixture in the bathroom (:
CFM won't matter regarding if it can push air through the filter. What you want to look for is the static pressure rating of the fan. It will be in the unit of mmH2O. Try to get a fan rated at 6 mmH2O or greater. Basically, the motor must be strong enough to push air through a thicker medium like a filter.
My fan (Delta AFB1212HHE-F00) is a 120mm PC fan rated at 9mmH2O and 120 CFM. My other fan (Scythe Kaze 3000) is also 120mm PC fan rated at 6mmH2O and 133 CFM. Both push through my homemade carbon scrubber.
Also, from what I've read, you don't want to use a carbon 'fabric' like those sheets. They wear out quite quickly and making a filter from small activated carbon granules would be superior. You might be able to find one relatively cheap like this. You could attach a 6-to-4 inch rubber reducer like this and let it sit on top of your fan on the cabinet. I made my scrubber out of an atrium grate, pantyhose, rubber reducer and the carbon and it sits right on top of my bucket with no need to seal around it as the air pushes through nicely with not much back pressure.

You NEED these. Many airlines are thin enough that if the power goes out or a hose becomes disconnected, capillary action might permit water to back-flow into your electrical air pump and/or just flood your room. Don't take chances when a .50 cent valve will protect you. There are some horror stories in the aquarium hobby about this. Note, even if the air pump is higher than your res, capillary action can pull the water up through the air hose. Definitely sounds like a moisture issue! I don't know how big your pot is, but once a week sounds like a lot. The bigger the pot, the longer you'll need to wait between watering to really let the soil dry out. I recommend a moisture meter (I just got this one) to really understand what's going on with your moisture levels.
Not sure what kind of leaf deterioration you're seeing, but I was having an issue with all of my new growth at the bottom of the plant falling off and/or molding. I had to switch from watering weekly to every 2 or so weeks for my 6" pot, based on my moisture readings.
I also like to use cactus soil for almost all of my plants because it drains super well. I've heard that Miracle Gro isn't an ideal soil line to use, but haven't tested that theory. In some cases, soil can prolong moisture retention and not allow the plan to dry out as quickly as is ideal.
Imho they will be fine, I've finished plants with similar or colder weather and some overcast days but not constant maybe two and a half days per week, if yours are just cloudy then better. They may take a little longer to mature though. Yeah a 12/12 or similar to your sunset/rise time is ok too, I was just trying to make it clear with the question it wasn't mockery just letting you know haha.
Leds are often advertised with their equivalent wattage of those old bulbs, much like cfls, not what the bulb actually draws. Like this one is actually around 25w, this is about 130w, and this are about 255w. I would get this 600 last one over the other recommended viparspectra, more bang for your buck and less bulky.

I used the self adhesive that came with the screen, but I'd definitely recommend sewing the border and velcro on if you have the means and the talent. Pulling the screen on and off weakens the adhesive for sure. The lights don't make much heat. They are also on a timer that I inherited so I don't have a link for that. But my plants really like it! I have an echeveria lola that has stress colors and lithops on the top shelf propped to be closer that I think are doing fine. They are starting to split on their own which I'm super excited about. My PVN also gets a very dark purple when it was on the middle shelf during the last couple hurricanes that hit the east coast.

My railing planter was just moved to the bottom shelf for the cold evenings but seeing as I have echeveria and cacti that are doing well under these lights already I'm not too worried.
Veg week 2 of clones obtained from my local medical collective. First nutrient feeding at half strength (3tsp/gallon of Fox Farm Big Bloom). LST started on all plants with the GDP starting 2 days later then the others. Did some minimal pruning after the LST settled to get things out of the dirt and clean out some leaves that weren't getting any light. Growth seemed to slow a bit for a few days, might have shocked them a bit from being rough with them, but they are doing great now. Thinking of extending my veg an extra week to compensate, will wait and see if that will even be necessary.
Noticed some small bite marks taken out of a leaf, so I decided not to take any chances and got some AzaMax and gave the girls a good shower at about 0.4% concentration. I will be following that up with a few more applications over the next couple weeks. I'm debating if I want to do a soil drench as well. I also got a gnat sticks that already caught one of the bastards.
Temps with lights on have remained stable around 79F and the RH about 40%. Lights off with fan at 20% temps get to 67F at the lowest and 50% RH at the highest. -i use a BreatheRight by Allen for my allergies. It’s expensive ($600-ish) but if you get the charcoal filter it’s crazy good. Will remove scented candle smells and Bacon smells as well as the very marijuana smoke that I smoke inside my own apartment.
I haven’t received any complaints. It’s been 2 years.
The next thing would be to go one step higher and purpose an in-line fan filter and attach a huge 24” charcoal filter.
This option is actually WAYYYY more effective, but requires just a little bit of knowing how to put stuff together, and it’s slightly loud, but god damn, it totally cleans all smells and allergies.

The Allen is more aesthetically pleasing and is a complete unit that requires zero installation. Simply plug and play. This model is for 1100sqft. If you get this, get the charcoal filter. They have lots of filters.
The in-line fan and filter option will be like 10x more powerful and way more affordable than the Allen, but unpleasant to look at and is louder.

very high quality, and I kinda thought about the price as well but then put it into perspective. A 600w grow kit cost less than the two 300w leds which are actually around 180 true watts. two of them in my 36x36x78 is wonderful, not great but sufficient. one 300w led in my tent would not be enough though, I need two so it makes sense they're not very expensive yet beautiful quality. I would only worry that the delivery service handles them with care. I was lucky and both arrived in perfect condition from UPS.

but im looking into investing into another LED light, this time a 600W to add to my 4x4 tent.

I had the same concern at first. These came with my light (MarsHydro 900w LED), but probably a cheaper knock off version. Worked great! I always held the beams the light hangers were secured to when i moved the lights up higher as they tended to flex. Since i was very paranoid i used paracord secured to the top side tent beams in case the light fell when i wasn't home. i can happily say i didn't need to do that since the light never fell, but small price to pay for peace of mind though. Haven't even purchased lights/tents yet, but seriously planning an indoor grow and don't know if my setup will work, so feel free to criticize all around.
Location: I plan on growing either in an attic (with good ventilation ofc) or the corner of a large, dark closet, both in a 3x3ft grow tent.
Plants: After some research on Leafly, YouTube, and various forums I have concluded that I am going to attempt to grow Wonder Woman, and I believe could grow 6 plants in that space, but 4-5 is also acceptable if anyone thinks there won't be enough room.
Light: It will be one tent (for now) so I intend on getting a combo veg/flowering LED (since money isn't a big problem and LED yields more than CFL) like this one. If anyone has any recommendations within the same price range (up to $200) I would be glad to look at and consider them.
Medium: Because there are already so many new variables for me, and growing potted plants in soil is something I'm used to, I plan on going with what I know instead of attempting a bunch of hydroponics my first few grows. I assume a better-managed soil grow would be much better than a shotty hydro system.
Also, when do we start cloning? After we determine the sexes? After harvest? Right before harvest? What lights are they kept under?

Yes! They pretty much all fit any lamp that could feasibly fit a flood light, so most desk lamps will do the trick. I use IKEA Ranarp lamps because aesthetic and they aren’t too expensive and come in different sizes and colors. I also troll Facebook Marketplace for vintage lamps of a similar style, because again, aesthetic
As far as bulbs go, I’ve been using the standard GE grow lights that you can get just about anywhere that sells lightbulbs (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NN6SVG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QxujDb0276PFA). They’re a little too pink hued for my liking even though they claim to be full spectrum, so I’m trying out a Phillips bulb (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JBPYBNS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bzujDbNBYPPT9), but I just got it so I can’t attest to whether or not it’s worth the extra ~$10. So far it looks way brighter and way whiter (no color hue that I can tell), so I’ve got it on a croton that hasn’t had new growth for a while so I think that will be a fair test, lol.

The Mars 300 is chill for the price, you probably want to want to get a second one if you're going to have multiple plants in that tent. People say 1 mars 300 per plant should get you good results, almost pushing it with two full plants under a single mars 300.

I didn't PH at first and my plants were dying on me... turns out my tap PH was above 7.0 ph. the PH pen saved grow!
My light also came with the same kind of diagram, I have it about 12" away at 1070 "PAR" and everyone has very good stress coloring and are loving it. I wouldn't set up the light to be at that distance right away, however, since they won't be used to the light, I started out about 2 feet away and moved it closer every few days to get them used to it. I got these little rope hangers so it's easy to adjust the height.
Both of the lights you've linked will do super! You want at least 60w, since wattage will determine how close you have to put it to be effective (with 60w you'll want plants to be like 6inches away for it to be effective, less wattage and you basically have to have them touching), and then you'll look for full spectrum (6500k).

The GO Box ($40) seems to be pretty popular.The General Hydroponics Trio ($40) or Fox Farms Trio ($50) are both great. If you wanna save money, you could even go with the XNutrients free sample pack (free with $15 shipping). I got one, and it's actually pretty great. It's got 8 oz each of Grow, Micro, Bloom, and a small packet of cloning gel. I do almost the full line of Fox Farms for my hydro setup, but I picked up the XNutrients free sample and I use that on my soil plants and am really liking it.These carbon filters are used mostly in commercial spaces. In the United States they are commonly found in marijuana grow houses to move air outside. A carbon filter removes a high percentage of odors to reduce the risk of detection.
I like them in my home because I'm not a fan of buying other scented products that "mask" smells. When I walk into my home and my carbon filter is on it smells clean. I'm not sure if that clean smell is due to something from the carbon? Either way it's a clean, crisp smell that many people comment on and cannot be replicated by chemicals.
Cons: inline fans are loud and the system is a little bulky. Noise can be reduced by adding ducting to the end or buying insulated fans as referenced below.

Here is how I do it. Tent on right gets first air ( the coldest and driest as it's for flowering ) air moves to second tent ( the air is warmer and more humid now, ideal for vegging flowers),the air moves into the dry tent,which usually has it's own dehumidifier. Finally exhausting thru a carbon filter back into the room.

That depends on how he's going to use the space. The 300s will give more coverage area, but the maximum PAR value will be less (by a substantial amount), so you won't get the same growth potential. If he were to go with the 600w (that's the one I have) and hang it over say, the right 2/3 of the tent he'd have perfect coverage and PAR for that area. It's a choice between barely adequate lighting but good coverage and decent lighting but less coverage area. A compromise might be to put 2 450W LEDs in there (same brand, Viparspectra)
Get some cheap CFLs (compact flourescent lights) from Home Depot so they are getting some sort of light. Get "daylight" (6500k) colored lights if possible. You can also use "Soft White" colored bulbs, though "Daylight" color bulbs are optimal for the first few months of growth. You will need about two 40w(150w incandescent equivalent) CFLs per plant to start. The bulbs shouldn't cost more then $10-$15 each. You can get a bunch of smaller CFLs if you can't find 40w bulbs. Make sure the plant gets at least 18 hours of light a day or it may start trying to make buds too early. You can give it 24 hours of light a day if you want during the beginning. If possible, get some good nutrients like "Fox Farm Soil Nutrient Trio" and feed the plants according to the directions. If your plants show signs of trouble, get a cheap pH test kit and make sure that the pH of the water you use with them is between 6.0-7.0, while trying to keep it at about 6.5-7.0. This will help the plant get the nutrients it needs.
Once the plants are about 60 days old (or older if you want bigger plants), then change the light schedule so that the plants get 12 hours of light and 12 hours of total darkness. This tells the plant to start budding. The plant will stay in this budding/flowering stage for 2-3 or more months. Then it's time to harvest (you can worry about that later).
I personally recommend growing in a soilless medium like coco coir as opposed to soil, because you have less of a chance of getting mold or bugs. If you're interested in growing in coco coir, it's pretty much the same as soil only the pH of the water will be different (5.5-6.3) and you will need to get nutrient made for hydroponics like Fox Farm Hydroponic Nutrient Trio.

EDIT: One more thing, try to keep the CFL lights so they're 2-4 inches from the plant at all times. You may need to adjust often if the plant is growing a lot. When the plant is still a seedling, you can keep the lights a bit further away for the first week or two or at least until they show their second 'real' set of leaves.
As far as when to water, feed the plant water only when the top inch of the growing medium feels dry to the touch and water well but not until the point of soaking.

Given that there's no such thing as a BIFL filtration system of any kind, the DIY recommendations here are rather reasonable. I quite like the furnace filter + box fan suggestion.
If you want something a little more robust, look into getting a carbon filter and a fan to go with it. I think the usual recommendation for carbon filters is for 24/7 use they need replaced every year or two. Awesome to hear! Yeah I scoured the net too and tried a few designs before deciding on this one. It's just a simple PVC frame I hung from the top of the tent using adjustable light ropes.
Here's the materials with some example links and short instructions. I was sort of winging it at the time I built.... so let me know if you have any more questions and I can take some closer pictures of the screen or something. :)

This way you make sure you don't accidentally end up with any angled or diagonal strings going across when it's done. ;) |

Imo you'd be better off getting a cob setup with cbx 3590 or vero 29 cobs this site has some good options to choose from. If you want to try out something different with good coverage and efficiency check out qb boards. If you want something affordable, yet powerful go with a 600/1000 mh/hps light. If you just want a basic cheap led light marshydro 300w(132w actual) is a good start.
If you can put a little money into this, you'd get better veg out of a 4' T5 fixture, and it'll put out more heat. Keep the tent pretty much closed up, with a vent on the bottom barely open and a 6" duct fan hooked to a Programmable Thermostat venting out the top. While it's cold, you can set the fan only to kick on at 80 degrees or something, so you aren't venting out warm air constantly. You do need some airflow, and the thermostat makes it a "set and forget" kind of thing. So you aren't baking plants on an unusually hot day, or taking away their heat on cold nights.
Other ideas:
edit: Last thing. Not an outdoor grower, but in 8 weeks you'll have 4' tall plants that aren't "hardened" to sunlight. That'll be a process. As will supporting the plants. These will likely need trellising straight away.
Well if an ounce is all you want, check out /r/SpaceBuckets. I could never get myself to do it as growing a weed plant, even just 1, is a huge investment of your time, resources, and effort. I think about it like: If I can get 1-2oz from a spacebucket in the same 3-5 months time, why not invest money that'll make itself back twice over just the first grow (even if you dont sell any, to me getting 1000$ of weed from my grow is making my 1000$ back but ima stoner lol)
and spend my 3-5 months growing 16-20oz.

I switched to LED from fluorescent this year. If you use fluorescent you need to move them to be about 3 inches from the tallest plant so they don’t burnt on the bulb.
With my LED lights I have the plants up to 1 foot away and they aren’t stretching for the light because they offer great lighting for plants.

I am using a 138w UFO in my first grow. The plants are doing nice, I am sure more watt would be good but it suits its purpose of being a cheap intro.

I would say this intensity is suitable for seedling. The strip lights are between 0.1 inch and 5 inches from the leaves and the UFO is about 7 inches from the canopy right now and its fine.
I will be buying stuff for a second bucket and refining my technique and I will opt for a brighter UFO, thinking whether I should reorder the LED strip or not though as it seems like its good.
I've seen on Amazon, as I did some light searching, these LED grow bulb setups. 45W grid of LEDS that are used for growing, at least from seed, indoors. I know you've recommended the flourescent tubes but what's your opinion on these? If it's similar to what you are saying where they keep growing all winter I could see it being a fair replacement to the tubes.
I only used the basement as an example as I do not have a garage and the only south face window which would get enough light exposure is right above a heating element which I have read could interfere with the plants. It also happens to be my dog's watch post, therefore I think the basement would be the best compromise. I will look into setting up the shop lights or perhaps if you are able to recommend, that LED setup.

I have three different strains, Northern Lights, Pre-99 big bud, and pure power plant, and then an unknown seed(which I planted about two weeks ago as the previous unknown seed turned out male, see previous post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/microgrowery/comments/5qo1yo/early_sign_of_balls_details_in_comments/0. One in each 3-gallon smart pot. For the first two weeks of growing I had an 18/6 light schedule, and then switched to 12/12. (I'm essentially doing 12/12 from as early as the plant could respond to the change in light schedule). Over the past 15 days I watered twice with tiger bloom nutes.
I definitely made the mistake of not listening to your advice when I originally posted and am trying to grow 3 plants in a 1.5X2.5X3 foot tent...It is getting crowded, I should've listened and stuck with one, maybe two plants. Other than that I haven't had any problem that I have noticed other then a few spots of damage on leaves occasionally but no pests or wilting. I'm sure there are things I could've done better though. Thank you for all your help, I can't wait to get to harvest.
Well, I wouldn't buy a tent kit/package. You could go with a 24"x24" tent like this one then buy your light and carbon filter/inline fan seperate.
iPower is a good inexpensive brand to start with for your fan/filter. A 4" fan is more than enough for that size.
As for your light a Quantum board leds are the most efficient lights out now but Cobs (chip on board) are great too.
Add a little clip fan for air circulation and you're all set!

I’m using this one. It was super easy to set up, but the thing is on the flimsy side and as you can see in the pictures, it’s really the bare minimum. No casing or anything. But it doesn’t get too hot and because it’s so minimal, it fits flat on the underside of the shelf so you don’t see it unless you’re sitting on the ground. Like I said in another comment, all this gear is super new so I can’t give any solid recommendation other than that I’ve had a good experience so far!
I don't think any LED would do and unfortunately the ones I ordered a year ago are no longer available. But I bet you get better bang for your buck now.
I'd be happy to offer a couple humble suggestions if you can answer a couple questions.
Are you fine with the light being purple, or would you rather have white light shining on them? I went with red/blue LEDs but now I kind of wish I had gone with fluorescent lighting to better enjoy my plant's natural beauty.
I'm thinking about expanding my grow area and I'm seriously considering going with fluorescent and putting my "prize" plants there and using the LEDs for cultivation.

First is $19 and could probably do the job for a couple plants. Second is on sale for $29 and could probably do 3-4 times the area but I'm bad at math.
I don't necesarilly recommend those models specifically, but with the links others have provided and these examples that should give you something of an idea of where to start comparing.
If you're interested, I highly recommend this light. Its perfect for just a little closet grow. I built a space bucket for my plant and use it and its perfect and pretty cheap.

This is my setup, my fan is coming in today and my seedlings sprouted this morning. I did quite a bit of research and The light is a little underpowered but I was on a pretty tight budget and can always add more light later.
I spent $40 on seeds and super soil mix from Mephisto genetics, going a more organic route and won't require nutes.
I also spent about $30 on peat moss, perlite, and compost. I already had some ducting and pots.

Its mostly trial and error from my experience unless you are growing a very well known crop like tomatoes, peppers or "special herbs". A slightly more accurate method is to get a PPM tester (they are like $10-20 USD here) and refer to this chart

They’re awesome totally recommend them. You can break them up since they come in 4 pieces and you connect them view cables, I have them on a timer.
I was able to rig them up under that three tiered stand with zip ties. The lights don’t get too hot and my orchids have been loving them.
Based on the little bit of info there about PAR, I don't think it's too much. I usually recommend this lighting guide, but since that's a blue/red LED light rather than a white/full spectrum light, a cheap lux meter won't work. There's good info there about PAR/lux recommendations, still. From the info on the Bestva LED light slides, I think it'd be okay for flower at 16-18", but not sure how good the coverage would be away from the center.
But, you can probably do better for the same price or only a little more. I mention that in case you want to return it and get a different one. I had a similar Viparspectra 450W light (different brand but very similar construction) which failed after about 10 days, apparently a common thing; I returned it and got an HLG QB288v2 kit, in 3000k, newer tech, a MUCH better light. It consumes ~135w (compared to 200w for my previous light), but produces more usable light in a better spectrum. It's more expensive, but there are other cheaper brands that are very similar.
I have a smaller tent than you do, 2'x2'x5.5', about 60x60x167 cm. Yours is closer to a 3x3 tent, and for those the one corresponding to mine would be the 260W kit, though people usually recommend getting the corresponding Meijiu light from alibaba instead, because they're much cheaper. I THINK that's the right one, but look what QB board people recommend for a 3x3 now.
I have that Variac and vortex combo and love it; look for the amazon used section I pick it up for 110 instead. I have this fan and it works wonderful for a 2 x 4 tent PACKED TO THE FUCKING BRIM with plants. Tis cheaper. Edit: it's the one you linked... woops!

I have a 5 gallon bucket with an AWS-10 automatic watering system hooked up to it.
The 2 ViparSpectra 450W (200 true watt) LEDs are on a 18/6 cycle controlled via timer.
When it's time to flower I'll bring down the Morsen 1200W (350 true watt) LED to supplement the ViparSpectras.
I've been running this for 2 wks now and so far so good. Soil is the perfect consistency of moisture and it's well distributed throughout the pots past a very thin dried top layer.
With a 5 gallon bucket I only have to refill once a week. I actually have a water source available to me right at my grow location, so even refilling the water reservoir could be automated at some point.
Mind you I still enjoy checking on my plants daily, just wanted to see if I could set up a very low maintenance grow that could be self sufficient if I needed to travel.

You still need buckets and soil as well as seeds or clones, but the bulk of what you need is right there.
You could swap out the HID lamp for some leds easily enough. Or upgrade to slightly better quality items, but you can get started for pretty cheap if you want.
Add a second set up like this and you can go perpetual grow and harvest several times a year.
nutes is short for nutrients. I bought the Fox Farm Trio. These are good nutes for a beginner like yourself. If it's a bit pricey because of all the other stuff you have to buy, there are cheaper nutrients around, but I highly recommend not skimping out on them. Like I said, get good nutes now and you will be able to use them for other grows in your future.
The purple led grow lights are actually a mixture of the spectrums. You can do it with cfls but its very hard, a lot of energy, and heat. Ive used anything from cfl, to 150w hps, to a 300w ufo led setup. The led setup was the best and yes it was purple.

Think that’s the light that’s hanging in the middle, then 4 9inch reflector clamps in the corners with “100w Led Bulbs” - GreatValue brand- that only pull 14w each from the wall.
So 56+45 =101? That was my basic workout of it in the beginning, or something close to it. Think I have wrong spectrums for flowering with the reflectors, no nutrients to boost them (do have foxfarm coming), and I’m aware middle light isn’t strong enough for several plants, but it’s doing pretty good on the one far as I can tell, there is a second in the room it’s just further behind/bigger/different strain/not getting enough spectrum from reflect lights so not flowering normally.

My plants are inside from around now until Aprilish. I use a 48x18” shelf, 10/20 trays fit on it nicely. There is a cheap clip fan on the end of each shelf that runs 24/7, this is imperative. I have some of these lights and some of these lights– they work fine. They’re on timers for 12 hours or so. The LEDs are tricky because they’re too strong to put very close to the plants, oh well. I have another smaller shelf that’s basically the same set up for cuttings and seedlings.

Although I wouud recommend searching on Amazon for "5630 led strip" and looking for one that is both waterproof, adhesive backed and has a usb connector for easy installation. The one I linked is just the LED strip on its own.
What you really want to ask is how many Watts per square meter (or square foot). If your garden bed is large, you'll need more light. And light that doesn't hit the garden doesn't count.
Something like this covers about 4'x4' with pretty good brightness. With all the LEDs pointing at the plants, this will be far more effective than a LED grow bulb in a typical household lighting fixture.
Terra cotta pots suck the soil dry, I don't use them unless it's for succulents. I would repot this in fresh potting soil inside a different container with a drainage hole. If this guy's soil usually looks this dry, and if it's more than 5ft from a super bright-ass window it won't grow. Everyone severely underestimates how close plants have to be to a window. And no growth is a sure sign of underwatering. If it was getting enough water but not enough sunlight, it would grow, just weirdly.
If you want zero guessing involved, I would read up on what that plant likes and pick up a super cheap moisture and light meter like this one from Amazon. Has saved me a lot of trouble when I have to check if a big plant is dry or if the sunlight isn't strong enough.
It should be fairly easy. If you want portability, buy some Smart Pots, they worked much better than the standard plastic pots I was using before. Spend some money on some good nutrients for the N-P-K phases. I used the Fox Farm Trio for my first grow, but I will be moving onto more organic products next year. Make sure to feed them less than what the bottles tell you to. Good soil is very important, I used Roots Organic. Then get some Molasses and feed it about cap full once every couple of weeks while it's vegging, and once a week when it flowers.
One mistake I made on my first grow, was ignoring pesticides. Next year I will be using Azamax once a week when it's vegging. Caterpillars can ruin a good amount of your crop in no time.
I think that's pretty much all you need for a cheap, and low-maintenance grow. Buy some Fiskars trimmers, and a microscope when you think they're ready for harvest.

If you're running in a small tent you can really get by with a small fan. You could check out a 4in kit from Amazon. It's cheaper than your current filter and comes with a fan and some ducting. That would be more than enough for your little tent. If you haven't chosen your seeds yet, I would recommend Mephisto genetics for autos. Great stuff, quick shipping. If you're in Canada they do have their shop closed for a few weeks but you can order from the US or UK store.

It says 124 but I think that's talking about their 300w because my Vipar 300 draws actual like 130 or something according to the manual.
So if the 600 draws 240-260, that's not bad for the price. $137. And the roleadro has the white/yellow light so it would compliment one of the disco ball lights well.

At 8ft high, the light would do very little to help the plants achieve growth. Try to get a smaller lamp, preferably with a scissor arm and buy one of these. I have a 2' bird of paradise in my bedroom that has eastern facing windows and use that to supplement it later in the day when there isn't enough natural sunlight. Hope this helps.
Apollo Horticulture makes great tents and products. I'm running a 6in premium carbon filter from them as well. Have both rents connected and it is doing its job just right.
IMO tent thickness isn't needed. Where I live it gets down to the mid 20s. My garage isn't heated and gets too around 50s, and with my lighting, A small space heater, and the tent, I'm keeping a nice 74(sleep time) 78(daylight) at 40% to 50% humidity constantly.

A proper setup should be able to get rid of any smells, but that wouldn't be a sandwich-sized sponge and your usual 120mm computer case fan. In order for this to work you will need a radial fan and a proper filter like this set. Something smaller would certainly do, but I've never seen anything under 4" diameter.
They key is getting something that provides enough suction toward the exhaust so all the other openings and cracks in the photon's case don't leak any gas. This will in turn increase the volume of your whole setup. Sleeping next to it might be difficult. There's solutions for that, too, if you're willing to spend the time and money.
I don't know about strips, but this is probably the 'cheapest' light that will be effective, it draws 250 watts. The spectrum is a little more red tilted, but with the window light as well that should be fine. My basil plants exploded under that light, although it wasn't bright enough for peppermint. OP, it's a Chinese special with razor thin margins (they have a different ballast in the photo). You can see on their webpage that the ballast is even different than the one shown on the Amazon link.
I'd go with this more efficient reflector if you do decide on this brand. The cool tube is a relatively inefficient reflector.

Sure! It's pretty basic, actually. The table is a 4x2' stainless steel table from IKEA. Pretty cheap, but you could do cheaper, I just already had it. The heating pad is the same size (happy coincidence.) The cups are regular solo cups, most expensive element was the lights. You'll also want a timer, I use this one. And finally, the most ghetto part of the whole set up, the tent! I made it out of cardboard, tin foil and duct tape. Gotta save that paper.

So I would really like to get into the art of Bonsai. I've been looking at getting a Ficus. The only problem is that it would have to permanently (at least for the foreseeable future) live indoors, as I live in a townhouse complex, without access to a balcony/private yard/fenced in area. I completely understand bonsai don't do well indoors, but with the proper lighting is it doable? I have been looking at lighting from local hydroponic shops and am having trouble picking a light. Would a basic 100 Watt-Equivalent CFL work? Or should I get something a bit fancier like one of these?

Hello there, I recently started growing and purchased all new items. The fan you chose simply won't work. You will be very disappointed in the performance. I was going to use that fan as an inflow booster with a pre-filter. I quickly returned it because it just did not move enough air. The fan could not create positive pressure in the tent. You can configure it lengthwise instead of how it’s shown in the picture. And I think you can connect two set together, but don’t know that for sure.

If your succulents are stretching, I highly recommend getting a lamp. I used desk lamps for supplemental lighting at first, and they work great for if you have only a few succulents. Just remember that the light needs to be 8-12 inches away from the plant and that will help you to see how many plants it can cover.
Once the desk lamp wasnt cutting it for me, I used these LED lights. They are purple, which a lot of people dont like, but they've given me gorgeous blushing on all my plants.

The moisture seems to do alright spreading without the fan. I don't think you would necessarily need it. I use it to increase air flow in order to prevent algae from taking over the tops of the soil on my plants in there and possible mold.
You might want to ask more about lighting from r/mosses since they're better equipped to discuss moss needs than I am. I know that my moss has been fine with this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07LG39B3M?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) placed about 10 inches from the moss and turned on for 10 hours a day. But, I have no clue if that's optimal, I just know it works for me.

I just recently brought all of my plants in for winter and upgraded my light setup to 4 T5 fluorescent bulbs at 6500 kelvins. Does this look like an appropriate height to keep it above the plants? The jade is about 3 inches from the bulbs so I'm a little worried about damage. I've been thinking about moving the jade to another window and just lowering lights closer to the rest of the plants. Also any advice on how long to keep them under lighting every day would be useful!

I dont see why you would need to water three times a day unless you are doing a hydro set up, but with a budget like that I would suggest you stick to soil. It will be cheaper and more forgiving if you mess up. If I were you I would go something along this route:

Fan-15$
pH test strips-13$
Total=150$
All you need after that is some pH up and pH down and an PPM meter and you will be good to go. Less than 200$.
I imagine you could purchase these activated charcoal sheets that you can cut to size! Tape a plate with a hole over it and you should be able to cut any size you want. The fan you spec'd looks like it should be able to handle the load that the charcoal filter will cause (it is going to be like trying to breathe through a straw rather than just your mouth).
Another option would be something like this where you have an all in one filter/blower system. It's more money but it will handle all that obstruction better. Alternatively you can go to a harware store and buy an inline duct booster. You should be able to control the fan speed with a big triac or possibly PWM signal.
I got one of these and use it to help with watering. Its pretty awesome.

thanks for your help !!!! I'm almost convinced to get Fluorescent... It looks like T8 fixtures are cheaper than t5. There is one for $18.48 but then then the bulbs only come in a two pack.. if I buy a set of warm white and a set of cool white then that would be about $20, at $10 per double pack. So if I have just one 2 bulb fixture and 4 lights, i may as well get another fixture so I don't have any leftover lights. So - 2 fixtures and 2 packs of lights it comes to about $57.
Now these LED ones I found are not as strong as the 300W ones, and seems that people use them for house plants. They are about $30 for one But there was another seller offering 2 for $55.
My only concern is judging from the grammar errors on the amazon listing, these LED seem to be from foreign manufacturers and they don't say anywhere on the page if they are UL listed like the Florescent lamps are - so I have to assume these lamps are not and reviews say they get hot so I really don't want one of these to burn my house down.
So, knowing they're both the same cost what would you do??? Florescent or LED? Or can I just get 1 pack of full spectrum bulbs and one florescent light?
Sorry, I don’t know much about the strips and shelves - though I do use some on my reef tank macroalgae reactor (clear tube with led strips wrapped around) seems to work well and puts up with occasional salt water with out electrocuting me or fish. I don’t know how to fix them onto shelves tho.
I use these one on my plant shelves and added one of these just so it wasn’t bright red. You can see my shelves in my last post. They’re super low profile. But my shelves are wire mesh which allowed me to easily tie them to the underside.

At the moment it is nothing simple, I have a ViparSpectra 450w w/ bloom switch hooked up to a Century Timer. I just went and bought a small circular fan maybe 6 inches in diameter at Wal-Mart and tied it up in the tent to the top vent as an exhaust. It's in a tiny 2x2x4 Tent. I have a couple clones from my outdoor grow, 2 in pot rn and a few more in a dome, all in the same tent. Not obviously going to keep them all, just hoping the pick the best of the litter.

Using a UFO LED is pretty great for a spacebucket since it fits well in the cover, and they're not too expensive. I would use this with the blackout guide that is stickied.
I have purchased 3 of these and although I have no long term results they are working quite well for the price. My lettuce likes it. There is a slight pink hue but not as much as other led grow lights imo.

These are the lights and These are the smart outlets I ended up getting, based on tips from other redditors. I have two pairs of lights and two smart outlets, both configured to run 4hrs on and 10 minutes off all day.
So far the regrowth of my e.metallica is looking really good, as was my water logged e.prolifica. I have a ton of baby succs and they all seem to be doing fine. It's only been about a month but so far so good. Even the props below are looking good, as does my wife's orchid (hopefully it blooms again next year).

Based on this I opted to just get grow lights. I plan to decorate the house with these guys once they've had enough time to soak it in, and will move them back when they begin to show signs of stretching.

I used some of these for an indoor setup with good success. Like u/LilPineapple69 said, maybe you could use a few in your greenhouse.

Save yourself a lot of hassle. Buy a cheap but reliable tent. Apollo makes great tents, cheap too.
How high above my seedlings should LED lights be? All the guidance I see online is for lighting that is massively more powerful than these. I have these grow lights which are about 20W worth of light per level.

I like it alright. It's pricier in comparison to the fluorescent lights. I have these two at the moment, though only the latter is in that grow shelf set up:

https://smile.amazon.com/4lamps-DL844s-Fluorescent-Hydroponic-Fixture/dp/B00HEYCRI8 (This one is only two inches tall, so you can fit it into a grow shelf without losing as much headroom. The bulbs are connected by little cords at each end instead of over the top, and it only has one on/off switch and no plugs.
The thing to keep in mind is that the fluorescent lights are all about 1 ft x 4 ft, while the LED light is only 12.6x7.9x3 inches. I could fit three of the LED lights into the same space as one of the fluorescent lights. You can look at that as good or bad, I guess, since it means it's more expensive, but you can also get much brighter coverage over all if you invest in it.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the LED light is fairly loud. The fluorescent light is completely silent, while the LED is louder than a gaming desktop. They can supposedly be modded with quieter cooling fans though, if that matters.

You stated that you only water when it seems dry but the article suggests once a week deep watering so that may be an issue. you also dont want to risk over watering so make sure your pot has good drainage at the bottom.
I highly suggest getting one of THESE and placing it in the pot to keep an eye one the light, water, and Ph levels.

I'm concerned I might actually be under-watering, I've been just splashing a bit of water in the container. Last night I went down and they were bone dry, so I gave them a good soaking, hoping that maybe I'm just under watering. We'll see on that front. Here's the rundown on what I've been doing.
