Hey! Sorry this took some time to get back. I haven't been able to use a regular razer since forever...and on any part of my body because I get what I think is extreme folliculitis EVERYWHERE. Electric razers have been been a godsend. One of my bikini trimmers is new and I wanted to give it a few more tries before I commented.

For ages I used this (and still do) : https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-ES246AC-Portable-Adjustable-Settings/dp/B00005JS5C/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=bikini+trimmer&qid=1563975379&s=gateway&sr=8-5

I would say it feels pretty safe. I've never nicked myself with this one but the shave isn't as close. I'm not into the completely clean shaven look (for myself!) so I think it works well.

I recently purchased this: https://www.amazon.com/Trimmer-Electric-Painless-Removal-Waterproof/dp/B07QFTF1QC/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=bikini+trimmer&qid=1563975479&s=gateway&sr=8-6

This one definitely gets a closer shave but it took me a second to figure out. Going with the grain is really important. Especially on tricky areas like where the folds of skin are and on the labia major. It will feel like a zap zap if you go against the grain or aren't careful and I've nicked myself so many times. But I can't lie, the shave is closer. I think it's also an overall quieter machine too? Again, I don't feel comfortable shaving certain parts of my labia or any part of my ass crack (lawl). So there's that. And I'm also wanting to try a few different trimmers just to see what works best. Anyways, hope this helps. Xo

Bodybare shaver http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F0WAZ8

You need to follow the instructions carefully, and it takes a bit of time to learn, but used regularly, it's amazingly effective and bumps free.

A few tips: You need to trim yourself to stubble length first, and let yourself grow out to, um, Miami Vice Don Johnson scruff level the first time, to give your ingrowns time to calm down.

This shaver is used dry - you have to make sure your skin is completely dry (not right after shower) and you use corn starch as a sort of 'lube'. It takes maybe 3-4 minutes a day (yes, a little more than a couple swipes w/ your razor). You lie down, powder your cooch up from front to back, and start with small, light circles over the skin, stretching this way and that. You can hear when it hits patches of stubble, but the nice thing is you can go over and over the skin without irritating it. It's so gentle, you can use it directly on your most sensitive bits.

You have to be a little anal about cleaning it each time (you unscrew cap, brush out the stubble bits and powder), and using blade oil (you can get it at any beauty supply store) each time, so the blades don't rust and go dull.

But, speaking as someone who's tried regular shaving, waxing, and this, this is hands down the best choice for keeping all your bits baby smooth. It can be a bit annoying at first to take the 3-5 minutes each day to go over every thing, but a) you don't need to shower first, you literally just lay out a towel, powder up, and start buzzing and b) you won't get ingrowns. and c) it's the closest, smoothest I've ever gotten down there, and I've tried everything.

The first few times will be pretty painful, but as the hair starts to thin out in the areas that you use it, after about 4-5 uses you pretty much can't feel a thing. If you can brave through the first few uses, then it's totally worth it. I use a Braun Silk Epil, which isn't super cheap, but it works great. I love it.

u/Turning_Pages · 5 pointsr/Hirsutism

I have been using an epilator on my face for the past 5 years. I use a small one intended for the face. I love it! I use it about once every week. I honestly should probably use it every day because I start getting some hair growth on day two or three. It takes me about 15 minutes to completely epilate my beard and mustache.

I have not tried epilating other parts of the body, just my face. I usually just shave everything else. But I’m not as self conscious about the rest of my body as I am about my face.

Pros:
-Cheaper than waxing. I was to the point where I needed to wax my face twice a month.
-Easy to travel with (can take it on planes)
-Easy to use.
-Can find them battery operated or corded.
-There are some that can be used wet or dry.
-Area stays smoother longer.

Cons:
-Painful....but after a while you learn to manage it. I usually pause after a couple of minutes, taking a long breath before continuing.
-Red splotches. I’m not sure if this is just me, but my face gets very red in the area I epilate. Usually lasts an hour or so.
-Discoloration. Over time my face has discolored in the areas I routinely epilate. Not sure if this is common or just something that happened to me.
-Noisy. My husband doesn’t mind, but it does sound like an electric razor.

With all this being said! I absolutely love my epilator.

I use an older model similar to this.

u/FogWalkerWithaBag · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I couldn't imagine not having an epilator after having one for 3 years now. I got a Braun one, this model, and I've been very happy with it. I use it on my legs, underarms, and non-labia bikini area. It's true that it gets way less painful the more you use it, so there is a bit of a pain hump to get over, but in my experience it has been totally worth it. You do have to clean it out every few weeks to get the hair and skin gunk out of the tweezer areas, I find a big safety pin is great for this.

u/OIdEvEAd · 3 pointsr/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

I use this, but it looks like it's out of stock rn. It comes with an electric razor attachment that is honestly the best I have ever used.

don't use a razor, get a simple trimmer like this

it's best to use a regular body trimmer first to knock things down before going in close

sauce: my egg rolls are pretty clean (I've posted pics....)

u/mybffndmyothrrddt · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you don't want to wax, try one of the shavers like this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Body-Bare-Intimate-Sensitive-Ladyfair/dp/B000A1ALEY

The blade is behind a fine mesh screen, so you can press very hard against your skin without fear of injuring yourself. The blade is very sharp so it gets most fine and thick hair, though I find it doesn't leave me 100% smooth - more like baby soft. The other benefit I find is if I remember to use this guy every dsy/every other day it takes all of maybe 5 minutes. Only thing is that you do need to have already fairly short hair for it to work well, so trim down/shave first then just start using this regularly.

u/lemonsquee · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I use this http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Hp6382-50-Trimmer-Shaving/dp/B00I471LQI but I didn't research before buying or anything, I'm pretty sure there are better types out there.

u/Darkwolf901 · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

Sadly, I have not actually purchased one yet. However, I have my eye on this one from emjoi, I like the purple one too, but it's costs more and the only difference is color. They also make a black one, if that's what you're into.

Now this is a dry epilator, so it has to be used outside of the water, after soaking would likely be best, to soften the hairs and skin.

There are also wet/dry epilators like the BRAUN Silk-Epil 7 which can be used in the shower/bath, but I've heard they are a bit too rough for more sensitive areas like the bikini line.

For when you finish, there are after-epilation creams that are supposed to slow regrowth and sooth the skin.

Also, epilators are essentially electric tweezers, so if pain is a problem, you should probably not use one.

My current routine is to use a safety/straight-razor and that takes forever anyway, and then the hair grows right back all sharp on the ends.

u/WhineyThePooh · 10 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I know you didn't ask, but I highly recommend this for trimming. I used to HATE grooming my pubes until I bought one of these things. It gives me a closer trim than I usually got myself and it takes a fraction of the time. I hate to sound like an infomercial, but I'm stupidly pleased with this thing. I recommended it to a friend, as well, and she uses it all the time now, too. Definitely ranks as one of my best impulse buys ever.

u/NoirIdea · 3 pointsr/FrugalFemaleFashion

Looks like Amazon has reviews for this and other similar ones here

If this is your first exposure to epilating, it will be painful! 4/5 girls who had been in awe of my epilator and bought one of their own returned theirs immediately because it was too painful for them. That said, if you can handle it, they are awesome cost-effective alternatives to waxing! I currently own a Braun one and a Remington one and both are effective- the Braun is more painful, but I think it removes more/finer hair. The Epilady has good reviews, I'm sure it does the job just fine!

Halt!! Buy this

Finishing Touch Flawless Brows... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F9CS38P?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Lol it’s incredible and easy to use and fast. So basically what I do is use this to buzz off the hair on top and below my brows to basically do a rough outline around the perimeter of brows then go back with it to shape the brow into the shape I want starting from the outside going in then I use tweezers to pluck any scraggy’s so its neat looking. But this is just how I do it. I use to just pluck but that hurts and takes forever to finish. I can do and maintain my brows fast like two minutes every other day or three. Click the link and scroll right on the pics to watch the video of how to use the buzzer 😁

u/emma_toertchen · 1 pointr/asktransgender

I had the same problem that even the best razors would hurt my skin and be red for nearly a week. So I got a nice electric razor (actually an epilator that has a razor attachment) and it shaves very smooth; really the best electric razor I've ever had. Then you can use some foundation or concealer (or something, I'm not a makeup pro) then that should help a lot!

I bought the model I linked "used". It described it as opened but never used, and I got it for like 70 €.

Also, as far as income goes, this website might be helpful for working from home!

u/falsecandy · 2 pointsr/blogsnark

Over the last couple of years, I've developed a serious chin hair problem. I was dead set against laser hair removal - it seemed drastic and I assumed it was ridiculously expensive. But I was so tired of shaving and feeling self-conscious that I eventually got a quote and it was not nearly as bad as I thought. Like, I assumed it would be thousands of dollars. It wasn't even $500 in total for all my sessions, and I go to a fancy place in an expensive town.

And as reluctant as I was at first, it's one of the best things I've ever done. It's such a joy not to worry about the hair anymore. I just wish I'd done it sooner!

If you just don't have the money, you just don't have the money, but if you might have the money it's worth getting a quote.

I haven't lasered my lip yet, though I'd like to - the chin was more urgent for me. In the meantime this stuff works well, but another blogsnarker mentioned that it's been discontinued :(

u/panda7712 · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I believe it varies from person to person. I personally have thick dark hair that grows back very quickly if I shave. Also my hair is quite noticeable on my upper lip, cheeks, chin, and forehead if I don't do anything about it. I usually get hair stubble within the same day after shaving my legs so I did not want to shave anything on my face. I started doing threading at a salon because I did not want to wax. Then I found a threading tool which is like tweezing multiple hairs at a time. I really like using this because my hair grows back much slower than shaving and its really easy to use once you get accustomed to it. I use it once or twice a week.

u/buckybone · 1 pointr/asktransgender

I use an Emjoi AP-10R for normal use, AP-9L for detail work (stubborn chest hairs, behind the knee since I started HRT...loose skin in the big epilator fucking HURTS)...they've worked just fine for me for two years now.

Also, I'd recommend an exfoliating body wash to help prevent ingrown hairs.

u/AscensionAF · 2 pointsr/asktransgender

I've been taking Biotin since about a year before HRT and I don't think that is the cause. I do know what you're talking about though. In the beginning of HRT I had a period where hair seemed more prevalent on my arms, but I think it was a temporary effect as my body adjusted to HRT. I would use a mini trimmer like this for a few months. I used the height attachment so hairs were about 1/2 inch long. It made the hair on my arms minimally visible.... but not like I was shaving my arms.

u/RunsWithRobots · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I actually use the Emjoi Epi Slim on my armpits all the time. It's too small to be effective on legs, but once you get rid of that first batch of hair it's not too bad, even if it is more sensitive than legs.

http://www.amazon.com/Emjoi-AP-9L-Slim-Cosmetic-Remover/dp/B0000DK5LW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341609572&sr=8-1&keywords=emjoi+epislim

u/2_mch_tme_on_reddit · 1 pointr/drumcorps

I bought this kit off of Amazon. I've had them only for about five months so far, coming to about just as many uses, with no problems. The smaller battery-powered groomer is loud, but I looked at it as a little bonus item; I'd have bought the kit even if it wasn't included.

u/Lazybluegirl · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

I prefer this to waxing/plucking/bleaching/etc. It barely leaves a pink mark, and it's so nice! 10/10 would recommend to anyone

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/AskReddit

You gotta pull the skin tight so it doesn't get caught in the blades. These work well.

u/DevonianScion · 1 pointr/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

I was assuming you meant electrical ones.

There are manual ones like this, but I've never used them so I can't say how they work. I guess it would be similar to plucking.

u/ursei · 6 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I got this one after lots of research:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0077PLNB6/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Reviews on amazon and in this subreddit said that it hurt less than other epilators. I've only tried that one, but since it didn't hurt much, it seems about right! Also it hurts less if you epilate in the shower and it's wet/dry :)

u/cosine83 · 1 pointr/justneckbeardthings

Just a regular ol' Wahl grooming kit. I use a 2 for the 'stache and a 3 or 4 for the rest, depending on how short I want it.

u/right_foot_red · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

This one
It's the only one I've ever used so I can't tell you how it compares to others.

u/MtF29HRTMar18 · 2 pointsr/asktransgender

Try an epilator on leg and arm hair. here

u/tygertyger · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Maybe an epilator? I have this one and I've heard of people using it for sideburns (I never have so I can't really say). I use it on my legs and it really doesn't hurt much.

You would definitely have to trim before epilating though. On my legs, I do a crappy job shaving and wait 48 hrs. Seems to get the hairs the right length, and then I just do touch ups once every 1-2 weeks as necessary.
