The most commonly used & recommended clear coat here is the USC Spray Max 2K High Gloss Clearcoat found here: https://amzn.to/2O0oZRB
It is also available in Matte and Semi-Gloss and all three types are highly recommended. In general, 2K clear coats will hold up much better than 1K, and will protect your work for years. Use of a standard 1K clearcoat will result in a finish that will wear off extremely quickly from use and leave you with a ruined paintjob.
Note: A couple things you need to know about USC 2K and all other 2K clearcoats.

>1. USC Spray Max 2K has a roughly 48 hour pot life. After this window has passed the clear coat will be unusable, so it's recommended you clear coat in batches.

>2. A can can typically cover 3 controllers, 3.5/4 if you're good about spraying efficiently.

>3. You must use safety equipment when using any 2k clearcoat. 2K clearcoats are HIGHLY TOXIC!*
3a. Wear a respirator, goggles, gloves, and a full body paint suit (preferably with a hood).
3b. Use light layers and work outdoors or in a professionally ventilated workshop (i.e. dedicated garage).
3c. Do not spray or leave to cure in an area where people or pets can breathe the fumes. This includes the full cure time as 2k gives off dangerous fumes until fully cured. Even very light exposure can make you sick.

The cartridges on this mask are nonreplaceable and have a max use time of 8 hours before they're inneffective in protecting you, this means you must replace this mask every 8 hours of active use.
The filters also get used up just sitting around in the open air, so make sure you store it in an airtight bag between uses if you want to get the full 8 hours out of it.

Make sure to wear safety goggles, nitrile or similar gloves, and wear long sleeves/pants to prevent the 2k getting on your skin. Any clothes worn while spraying should be immediately changed out of and washed to prevent any chemical being absorbed by your skin.

Not to be nitpicky, but he's not wearing a hazmat suit. Hazmat suits are meant to totally protect the body against any airborn or touched hazardous materials, and are typically made of some material that doesn't let stuff permeate it.

What this dude is wearing is something more like a disposable paint suit.

These are usually made of a cotton based material and feels almost like you're wearing a big body sized paper towel. Aside from using these to, well, paint, people working around sensitive electronics will wear them as well to prevent skin dandruff, hair, and body dust from contaminating the environment or the electronics they are working on. Here's an example.

Why this guy wears one? Probably to ensure his dna isn't left anywhere. He's like the DA's courier, so this suit helps ensure no trace is left behind.

Try a tyvek coverall suit...Technically they're made for painting but pretty much looks like a hazmat suit. A lab where I used to work actually used then as such to prevent exposure to bloodborn pathogens. Just pair it with some rubber gloves and a gas mask/face shield

EDIT something like this would do. I used one to look like a hazmat suit for this photo. they tend to run on the small side. I'm 6' and skinny as a rail and I need an XL for comfortable range of motion

Latex gloves, facemask that protects against viruses - I believe 3M makes a mask that is N95 (n95 is good but N100 is even better or you can buy a regular gas mask and then just make sure to get NBC filters), hazmat suit, BLEACH, contractor bags for waste, plastic sheeting/tarp if you need to seal your windows/doors, duct tape!!

I love my Revco Black Stallion Cape and Sleeves. Depending on what type of welding I'm doing it saves me going through shirts. It's enough cover to protect me stick welding but cool enough, being open in the back, to keep me from burning up in warm weather. I spent around $80 on my first one and got a spare when they recently dropped to ~$40. I just wear denim jeans, I don't know anybody that wears anything special for pants.

Oh I agree it wont be safe, I don't think its going to be safe anywhere in the event it happens.

My main concern is that if you do find a shelter that is open and will allow you in the filters and fans most likely will not be working. Which means none of the radioactive dust that is floating in the air is going to get filtered out.

You might be able to find gas/dust masks that can filter out super fine particles (the biggest threat from fallout is inhaling the radioactive dust). I'd also suggest purchasing iodine pills or liquid:

Radioactive iodine will be the majority of the radioactive particles that get attached to the dust. Your thyroid is the main user of iodine in your body so they tend to get sent to that location. If you can replace or fill up the iodine receptors in your thyroid before ingesting the radioactive ones then hopefully your body will excrete the radio active particles over time.

There are other radioactive elements that get produced during the explosion like francium, americium and there are med's available to help get rid of those but they are Rx only and usually reserved for military.

a Tyvek zip up suit might not be a bad idea either, this will help limit your skin exposure.

Make sure you check your sizing before purchasing - the suits are designed to go over your clothes and most people are Larges or XL's.
Wherever you get it, make sure it has elastic wrists, a hood, and built-in boots.

We would recommend the 3M 6800 Full Face respirator with some P/N100 filters to go with it. The full face respirator is a worthwhile investment if you think you'll need respiratory protection more than once or twice and different types of filters and cartridges can be attached to it for different situations.

They're marketed as disposable, but you can find tyvek suits/coveralls on amazon for around $10. If you're careful with it, you could probably get multiple uses out of it, and just patch any rips with tyvek or tenacious tape.

You could also look into the SOL bivvies, but I'm not sure which one wins for durability/weight.

The best advice is stay at home, tape up vents and windows and listen to emergency broadcasts. If you have a bath fill it with water before the radiation cloud hits your area to have an emergency supply. Stick to bottled water when possible.

The cheapest option is to grab some Potassium Iodate tablets.

The next option is getting some full body protective gear and a gas mask. Ideally practice donning and removing the protective gear plus keep a spare. Depending on how spendy you want to go it can range from a few dollars and an industrial filter to hundreds (basic millitary NBC clothing and gas mask - don't forget spare cartridges) to thousands/hundreds of thousands (dedicated gear for professionals, nutcases and rich drunks on a shopping spree [Try not to be the latter]).

I am but i mean tyvek sleeves like this. :D I personally don't use tyvek as a filter or to inoculate through, but thank you!!

I'd like to add you should also get a disposable painter suit, like this one. If you ever have to change a flat tire or deal with any break-downs you can keep from ruining your nice clothes.

The box fan faces out, filter is used on a "source" opening. Preferably up high away from the working area. You can add another to the fan to cut down on the overspray expelled from it. Be careful. What it's pointed at it may get stained. You only want a little bit of air movement, just for air exchange.

Inflatable paint booths exist too (positive pressure), I've had poor lunch making my own.

Try to keep as much dust out of the work area as possible, a spray bottle of water can be used to help stick down any that's in there already, just walk around spraying it in the air and let it settle. Keep it away from your work piece though.

Dust motes, bits of dust, lint, fluff. Anything that touches the surface will stick. If the paint if very wet its surface will distort "stick" around it, if the paint is nearly dry when they stick they can sometimes be buffed out. Hair is the worst. On the color coat you can just sand it and add another skim coat.

Drips and runs take a lot more sanding but general inconsistencies fade well with sanding in between light coats of paint. You want to "build" your paint, this is why you hear about high end cars having 7 or more color coats. I find 4 is generally good for consistent cover on a repair job. More than that, especially with rattle cans can start to amplify mistakes or build up around the edges too much.

Underneath my pjs I alway wear this. It's the only way to be safe in this day and age!

Get a few of these and make her put it on when she rides in your car. It'll probably be easier than trying to get her to quit.

Start with a big hammer, a pry bar, and a pack of contractor bags to dispose of the debris. You'll wanna wear a mold rated respirator, Tyvek coveralls, gloves, and safety glasses for demolition. You'll also wanna make sure everything is well-ventilated and isolate the area as much as possible during demolition with plastic sheeting. For cleanup, you'll want a HEPA filter for the Shop Vac, a gallon of quat sanitizer concentrate, a bucket, and a good mop. Once you've got everything stripped out, you'll want to spray everything down with Concrobium (a garden sprayer is handy for this) and let it dry out. Box fans or blowers will help with this. After that, you can move on to the next part: inspecting for structural damage and finding and repairing the leak.

Being nervous is normal when you're getting into new territory. We've all been there. But you've got this. Focus on one part of the job at a time. Part 1 is demo and cleanup.

I wear hazmat suits to keep the tics off me when I do yard work. If I was doing HVAC, I'd certainly wear it up in the insulation. I was wearing one when I re-taped all my HVAC ducting over this past winter.

I can't attest to any of this, being new, but I am getting a pair for me, my wife, and my kids. That way, I can assess my comfort level before shelling out ~$100 for the full ventilated suit. I am not sure how much I am going to need it since I am a hobbyist. If I am in it, get stung, and am scared, then I'll run and buy one locally. If not, I'll probably just wear long-sleeves and deal with the sting potential.

Suit up, mesh tape gap in gloves and over face hole. Swat at ants like my life depends on it. It's going to be a tough fight with such a constrained budget but it's the best plan I can come up with under budget. I splurged on better gloves since the low weapon budget left me with a rather short melee weapon.

A slightly higher budget would have allowed me to suit up and spread Diatomaceous earth $12.97 (replace the gloves with cheaper ones and skip the swatter) instead of resorting to melee attacks. 30 bucks would greatly increase my chances as survival as i could spread it around and just avoid the ants as best i could.

If survival isn't a win condition then
