I built the Freedom a couple of years ago, and it really is a good kit. It's about 7.5 to 8 inches like most of the 1/100 MG Gundams. It's a bit back heavy like all the Seed kits, but it does come with a nice stand. Just be careful when putting the model on the stand, the connecters are a little fragile. You don't need to do any painting but there are a couple of noticeable seam lines on the waist and wing cannons. The proportions for the kit are really good, and it poses pretty well on the stand.

The newer MG kits typically look pretty good without paint. Some builders choose to only do panel lining and top coating. And they usually turn out looking pretty good. If you'd like to cover up spru marks check out gundam markers they usually make sets based on series. If you're interested you can find them here. http://www.amazon.com/GMS109-Gundam-Marker-Seed-Basic/dp/B0009AFN4E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1313903887&sr=8-5 I'm also selling the same set of markers slightly used for a discount.

Hobby Wave has the kit for about $50 which isn't bad at all. Shipping is flat rate thought, so sometimes it's better to buy more than one kit at a time to save on repeated shipping.
http://www.hobbywave.com/plastic_models/gundam/mg/mg_zgmf_x10a_freedom_gundam.html

Also if you haven't checked it out already try watching a couple of episodes of Gunpla TV. The early episodes would probably be very helpful if you haven't built Gunpla kits before.

There is a risk of harm to the queen when marking her, especially if you are new to it and do it incorrectly. Paint on her abdomen or on her head/eyes will harm her. That is the only downside. If you are skilled even a virgin queen can be marked to no detriment or interference with mating (no paint on wings or around wing joint). Some paints are poor choices. Do not use oil based paints or oil based paint pens. Water based non-toxic paint pens like POSCA paint markers or Craftsmart paint pens are the easiest to use. Testor model paint and fingernail polish are also OK as the queen's thorax is very similar to your fingernails. If you new to it I recommend pens as its easy to make a mess all over her with brush applied paints. Make sure you blot the end of the marker or brush first.

I use POSCA pens except I use a bright purple nail polish that my daughter no longer wanted to mark queens in caught swarms since I don't know their age, and my yellow marking paint is Testor just because I have it, but that's just my system.

Its not hard to do. I suggest practicing on a dozen or more drones (use a non-standard color if you have it) until you are good at it.

^(insert edit:) wait until the paint is completely dry before releasing her back to the hive. You can keep her in the queen catcher and just set the catcher on top of the frames (unless in direct sunlight) while the paint dries.

There are lots of upsides. While you do not need to see the queen during an inspection, proper marking helps you keep the queen safe. If you are handling a frame and she is on it that's a good thing to know. I often set the queen frame in a quiet-box when I come across it, that way I know she is safe and isn't going to get rolled or shaken off as I manipulate the other frames, but just knowing she is there will make you be more careful. Making a deterministic split is easier, you know for sure where the queen went. You can tell if the queen has been superseded. If you catch a swarm from your own apiary it may help narrow down which hive swarmed, and you'll be able to tell if it was a mated queen swarm or a virgin queen swarm. It makes it easier to put the queen below a queen excluder. You know the age of the queen at a glance. If you've had a robbing attack after you've got it stopped it's sure nice to be able to make sure the queen is alive. Having a marked queen in no guarantee that you'll see her, but I think that experience gained spotting marked queens also helps you spot un-marked queens as you train your eye and brain to what a queen looks like. If you sell nucs then new beeks appreciate a marked queen.

I’m a little worried /u/keanex will consider this heresy… (edit: all clear!)

I was inspired by this post by /u/HoodedHoodlum who nicely detailed two AT headphones, AD2000 and R70x

I took a slightly different approach. I’ve had this pair for a few months, but I’m sure they’re many years old. The paint on my grills was starting to wear off, so I painted them silver. I think it turned out well, only took me about 2 hours using a silver paint pen.

AD2000 impressions: A classic headphone that thankfully I still see around here a lot. It’s a great (and rare) example of a mid-centric headphone with a lot of speed. The bass and treble are there, but the midrange is so incredibly forward, with a fairly spacious soundstage. I really like these with rock or orchestral pieces (four string quartets sound incredible). Also, unlike many flagships, they can be powered by low levels of static electricity from your sweater. It’s definitely a unique headphone and one that has a permanent place in my collection.

Before I owned this pair, I had a “franken AD2500” which is an AD500x shell with AD2000 drivers installed, and the cable modded to be dual entry. I must say, they actually sounded really close to the real thing.

And yes, I know what you’re thinking, the silver does in fact make it sound brighter :)

For hot chocolate, there are a number of fun, cute, and/or nice things you can do! I found this article that has ideas for a hot cocoa party, including a couple of recipes for homemade hot chocolate. You could maybe pick up some hot chocolate accompaniments to go in her stocking.

I'm also surprised no one has mentioned making her a mug! And by "making" I mean customizing, not actual pottery creation! Haha Here is a tutorial and although the markers are $12-ish on Amazon, if you have a Michaels craft store near you, they have 50% off coupons for 1 item almost every week if you get the paper or sign up for their emails. My local dollar store always has an assortment of plain white mugs, but I've also seen cool ones at thrift stores :) I plan to try this method on wine glasses I found at a thrift store for my secret Santa at work!

If she likes to be creative, you might also look for a magazine that caters to whatever it is she likes, like Martha Stewart, Better Homes & Gardens, and there's a bunch of less well-known ones I've seen at the craft store. I'm not sure, but I would assume a single issue would be less than $5?

u/MsMoneypennyLane · 12 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Had to set up house on an extreme budget a few years ago— got great deals on kitchen things I needed by shopping at the Dollar store. Things that would be just fine for my purposes (were messed up on the bottom, pattern of stripes didn’t match up, etc) and they had great glass drinking jars and cheap bar ware.

My best friend knew starting over was rough. But she also knew I value memories over stuff anyway so she bought me markers that write on glass then we had a party to decorate all my glassware. Had to be washed by hand, but that was okay because I couldn’t afford a dishwasher, either! I still have the ones we did for cocktails. I hope you reach better times soon, friend.

u/Swordie · 5 pointsr/Calligraphy

Under $15:

  • Calligraphy Marker - Good for people VERY new to calligraphy, easy to use, won't make amazing compositions.

  • Pilot Parallel Pens - Good balance of looking/acting like an expensive pen and easy to use. If you get one of these, I would recommend the 3.8mm because the large size helps in learning the forms of each hand.

    Under $30:

  • Speedball Dip Nibs/holders - This package has a diverse collection of nibs, which means many different sizes for about the price of a single parallel pen. Downsides include more maintaining/cleaning of each nib, unlike the almost maintenance-free parallel pen. Also, you will need to buy ink separately. Some good ink I've just gotten is parker.
u/thredith · 4 pointsr/Solo_Roleplaying

I've been playing a little bit of Ironsworn, with a new character (Milla Ravenmark). I've also have just learned about "narrative dice". I honestly had no idea those were a thing, and I was surprised because I love rolling polyhedrals! I mean, the first thing that came to mind were Rory Story Cubes (which of course I own), but nope. Narrative dice are different, and they are used in the Genesys system and a couple of Star Wars RPGs that I haven't tried. A quick google search gave me some new info on the topic!

Thanks to Runehammer's video on narrative dice, and his DIY system, I have just bought a couple of materials from Amazon in hopes of creating my own custom set: 100 assorted color blank six-sided dice, a simple electric engraver that can be used with plastic, and a set of paint pens. The paint pen idea came from this video that teaches you how to color your custom engraved dice. His system looks PERFECT for a solo rpg approach! Now, I'm hinking on how to use those dice with USR rpg.

I'm also working on creating my custom dice tower on the cheap using a can of Pringles and some other easy-to-get items.

I'm looking forward to see how things go!

u/Brutusismyhomeboy · 6 pointsr/OSU

So, you can do this yourself. I don't think it's going to work all that well though. I lived through the late 80's and early 90's personalization of all the things craze and for this task, I'd use paint pens. I'm not terribly familiar with the hydroflask brand, but from a google it looks like it would work. A rougher texture to the outside would hold paint better.

I'm assuming you aren't planning on putting this in the dishwasher, merely rinsing it out. If you're planning to do that, or put it in the sink with other dishes, to soak, doing anything outside of simply rinsing the inside, don't do that. This is not food safe paint and unless you're doing ceramics and baking all that in, there's no such thing that will do what you want it to.

You can get the paint pens at Michaels or Hobby Lobby probably 2 bucks a pen or so. You can also get some on amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Acrylic-EKKONG-Permanent-Markers-Resistant/dp/B07L6H6CRN/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=paint+pens&qid=1571532160&sr=8-6

I don't have any experience with the latter, so I'd read reviews.

As to the artistic point. You can print out clouds, tape them to the water bottle and trace them. You could do some parting clouds over your name/initials/monogram a la the Simpsons. Maybe a rainbow? I'd love a rainbow aesthetic in kind of a 70's way- like it winds itself around the bottle being funky. We made 70s funky letters back in the day by writing bubble letters and then tracing around them with all the colors.

Or, you could just buy some cool stickers like the Nalgene contingent and call it a day. I really don't think the paint is going to hold up.

u/EchoLeader1 · 2 pointsr/powerrangers

Tamiya Gold Leaf will look fine, a little sparkly but the right color. It can be either brushed by hand or airbrushed on.

https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Acrylic-Gloss-Gold-Leaf/dp/B0006O51Y0

For convenience's sake, though, I would recommend a Gundam gold marker. It's basically a marker with gold paint inside rather than normal ink.

https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-GM04-Gundam-Marker-Gold/dp/B00750J0EA

Either one can be bought online or at a Hobby Store (my local chain is HobbyTown) for pretty cheap (less than $3 a piece). You could maybe also use a gold Sharpie pen, but I don't know how that will look in terms of texture.

Getting the black details in-between the gold is another hill to climb, though. The simplest thing to do would probably be to get some black paint (Tamiya) and do it by hand. If you do that, though, you should probably not use the Gundam marker, as it has paint thinner in it that might dissolve whatever paint you put on top of it.

u/Lok27 · 1 pointr/IronHands40k

Looks awesome. It looks like you got some of the rivets, but a nice little tool I've recently found is this little pen. It's been super helpful and really makes the small details pop.

u/trippingjimmi · 2 pointsr/bikesgonewild

Ya man. I absolutely love white tire lettering. Did it on my last bike as well. Looks great in person. Extremely time consuming and strenuous though, to do well. Easier with the tires off the bike of course.

What you need is this Sharpie OIL BASED paint marker. Last basically all season and then some. Very durable

https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-Based-Marker-Medium-1-Count/dp/B001PLKRZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492483544&sr=8-1&keywords=sharpie+oil+based+white

u/Jekka28 · 2 pointsr/ukulele

Thank you! I painted it with a white oil-based sharpie - Link (But I got a single one from wal-mart for something like $2.50

This was all done free hand, I didn't plan anything out or sketch beforehand/etc. You can tell when you look fairly close that there are some drips and unintended splotches that I just worked into the design. I knew that if I planned it out beforehand I'd over-think everything and I would never actually paint it!

u/southtea · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

i've got some all white NMD's and i've tried so hard to clean them. Washing machine, hand washing, jason markk, etc. Nothing works. they are still yellowing. never getting all white shoes again

What I did find is using an oil based white sharpie on the boost is MAGIC. (https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Paint-MParker-White-35568/dp/B0026HC9F4) the boost looks brand new after a coat of it

u/kxlle · 4 pointsr/Sneakers

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sneakers/comments/6eqshj/boost_whitening_mystery_grey/

post of what it looks like after

I would assume it looks fine long term because the oil would soak into the boost and keep it white until it got dirty again (vs. painting over it that would chip off), use a white oil sharpier - I think this is the right one. https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Paint-MParker-White-35568/dp/B0026HC9F4

/u/Ouranox /u/brokeandfamous would be great if you guys gave advice because I haven't personally done this yet.

Btw, you can use a hot air dryer to uncrease your NMD blocks as well, if you haven't seen that post yet :)

u/crazypipo · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Get rid of them & cover them up is the same, no?

While it is true that painting is the best solution to hide all those imperfections, you can also hide those nub marks without painting - well, all you is Real Touch Markers like these.

My recently finished (only painted the grey on the armors, inner frame & thrusters. Other colors are OOB) RE 1/100 GP04 and last year's straight build MG Jesta are good examples. Only carefully filed and touched up with Real Touch Markers (if necessary). Matte coat greatly help in hiding nub marks.

u/fumblesvp · 2 pointsr/longrange

Pretty awesome. I use the sharpie oil based markers for my brass. They make a more opaque line that is easier to pick out from the pile or grass. I think they are a little wider than regular sharpies.

u/natejosiah · 3 pointsr/DnD

I bought these 5. Black and white are oil and the other three are water based. I don't know why I ordered mismatched ones but so far none have shown a difference except the water ones are a lot easier to clean up after I'm done inking them, understandably. But since they are in the groove I think they will be just fine. Also, I have the pens so I can touch them up if I ever wanted to.

u/iandcorey · 1 pointr/Stained_Glass

Fine tipped paint pen is your best option. The paint is pretty resilient so will show well into grinding.

u/Darnsky · 3 pointsr/adidas

My method:

  • I know it’s probably too late for your reason for posting this but you want to use 2-3 layers of crap spray on the boost.
  • Then get a gentle cleaner, I use he crep cleaner and brush to get dirt off on cleaning days.
  • If after cleaning you see some “yellowing” or discoloration, use one of these.
  • using the oil paint pen I make sure there’s absolutely no dirt or grime left on it, and then lightly cover the spots and let it dry. Then repeat 1-2 more times.

The oil paint pen does leave a bit of texture, and on pristine boost may be visible, but on my daily driver NMD’s and casual EQT’s it works great.
u/anieves56 · 1 pointr/adidas

The best thing for painting the boost is the sharpie oil markers

As already stated...White-Out/Liquid Paper are not actually paint. They are an opaque medium, mixed with solvents, meant to dry in such a way as to correct writing/typing mistakes, and then be written/typed on again. Never use this type of product on plastics, because it can literally eat into them, beyond the fact that it doesn't offer the same coverage or staying power as acrylic paint.

If your main issue here is lack of confidence using bottled model paint with fine-tipped brushes, there are products that can help. Posca paint markers are extremely versatile, and filled with normal acrylic paint. I use them for drawing on various surfaces...including doing touch-ups or paint applications on figures. A single, white Posca marker will probably last you a very long time, and they are between $5-7. You can get various tip sizes, as well as other colors. Posca White Ultra Fine Tip

I hope this was helpful, and as a final tip...make sure to grab some sort of clear coat...whether spray or brush-on, to seal the paint, when you're finished.

u/energybased · 1 pointr/HumansBeingBros

The sharpie he is having a problem with is probably one of these Sharpie Oil Based Paint Markers. I don't think your idea to use spit would work, or that it's "super easy to get off glass".

The reason I suggested glass is because as far as I know that's what the LCD screen surface is made of. There might be a coating too.

Windex works similarly to lye. The ammonia dissolves in water to create ammonium hydroxide whereas the lye is sodium hydroxide. In both cases, the hydroxide deprotonates fatty acids, which makes them soluble in water.

Your idea to try nail polish remover (acetone) is a good idea.

u/darktheorytv · 89 pointsr/Sneakers

Yeah, you can get away with even putting these in the wash. You can wrap them in a tied pillow case or preferably a mesh bag made for washing sneakers. Put the cycle on normal and put in a tide pod. Make sure to remove laces and inner sole (although I've left the sole in on accident with no issues). Don't put them in the dryer.

This should clean the fabric quite easily and most of the boost as well. These oil based paint markers do the trick. You can even fix some imperfections on the plastic part of the cage too if you're careful.

u/kenp2600 · 1 pointr/homegym

Great idea. I literally got my first set of bumpers today and they're all black Diamond Pros. I may give this a shot. When you said oil based paint pens, would those be something like these?

You can make a custom personal logo stamp online for about 25 bucks at places like rubberstamp.com

[Ammonium chloride on Amazon for about 8 bucks a pound] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004V9UQ14/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qyDrzbESC0FD1), and the hardest thing to find were the markers

Montana acrylic empty marker 0.7mm extra fine for 6 bucks

X-Passion 3 piece water brush set for 8 bucks

You could make simple, elegant designs with the brushes and markers that look so much smoother than a traditional woodburner and much faster too. I have a few keepsake boxes I'm going to put outlined brushstrokes of animals and an ornamental design around the edge, stain it and seal it. Perhaps add some gold metallic accents if it's not too much. It could be finished in a few hours and look like it took days.

It will probably be fine, but if you want to ensure that a signature is permanent, use a paint marker instead of a normal Sharpie. It's expensive, but it is guarantueed permanent. It uses an oil based paint instead of standard marker ink, and you'll never wipe that stuff off.

Why a laptop though? Seems like an odd thing to have someone sign.

I've got a PPQ M1 and M2, and the mags look almost identical. I got one of these:

Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Marker,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E1NY42C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

and just wrote on each one so I could tell which was which. That might be an easy solution?

Edit: hit send too quickly

Sure, here it is on amazon:

Moloto Liquid Chrome

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E7EFSVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_pve4BbEQ8EQP4

Looks like they have different size tips, I was able to get the 1mm one at hobby shops near me

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/longboarding

I suggest purchasing paint-sharpies because it looks much better all said and done. Also, I did not have to sand the board whatsoever and the paint has lasted for 4 months now.
You can buy them at many arts and craft stores and they come in all colors. This is what they look like http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-Based-Markers-Fashion-1770459/dp/B003VQ9M04/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343870258&sr=8-1&keywords=paint+sharpies

u/adderal · 1 pointr/RepTime

Yeah, that's the right one. Sorry I said chrome earlier-- i had read either on RWI or RG where someone was trying this one..

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E7EFSVU/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A79CLRHOQ3NF4

but metallic silver is the safe bet.

u/dontwantnone09 · 13 pointsr/homegym

I used a wire wheel brush on my wired drill (a kit like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/wire-wheelcup-brush-set-6-pc-60475.html)

Then just wiped them down well before painting. For the paint: https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/painters-touch-ultra-cover-2x/matte

Then I used the Sharpie Oil Paint Pens for the lettering (http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-Based-Assorted-Metallics-1770458/dp/B003YDYO1Q). Depending on the size of the lettering, you might need different sizes.

u/CraigThames · 6 pointsr/funkopop

I highly recommend oil based paint pens over permanent markers. Thy take a little longer to dry but look 100x better and won't fade (sharpie can fade over a long time). They are easy to find at local craft stores (I got mine at Michaels if you have that close). These are the ones I've used.

Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Markers, Medium Point, Assorted Colors, 5-Count

Picture for reference. The bottom row of horror pops are all paint pen. Most of the others are Sharpie (before I knew about paint pens)

It was a bit annoying at first, but i what i did was this:
first, i painted the nub marks with my gundam seed markers.

since the paint is a little different from the wings, i used a q-tip soaked with alcohol and removed most of the excess, but the nub mark ended up being somewhat the same color as the wings. I hope this helped!

Here's the Amazon link courtesy of u/Head_Honchoo from an earlier thread where this was discussed

u/alexrw214 · 1 pointr/Calligraphy

I started out with just a 2 mm Sharpie chisel tip pen that was only around $1.50 from a local craft store. I printed out a random calligraphy alphabet that I found online and tried to mimic that when I got bored in class. (You can see this alphabet, Chaucery Italic, influences my Gothic letters unfortunately, such as my 'i', which is supposed to have one minim, as /u/SMTRodent pointed out, but I make it with two as is done in Chaucery.)

I then picked up the Manuscript 5 nib set at the same craft store, and started this excerpt in my spare time about a week ago. I also browse this subreddit, and plan to actually practice now that summer is here! Hope this helped!

I got mine through Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01E7EFSVU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1481870577&sr=8-3&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=molotow+liquid+chrome&dpPl=1&dpID=414sZoEl3EL&ref=plSrch
If Amazon isn't an option for you, try going to Molotow.com to see if they can get you a link to a local supplier. I'm in Oregon and even ordering it through Amazon, it ended up coming from the U.K., so it took several weeks to get here.

Is this what you used? Really liking the look of that silver.

u/why_rob_y · 5 pointsr/homegym

Like this? I guess I didn't even know that was an option. I can make my weights look 10x cooler now, thanks.

u/aerialbyte · 3 pointsr/Sneakers

I just did mine for the first time with these:
Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Marker, Medium Point, White Ink, Pack of 6

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MG996DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9FA9Bb4D888JN

One was enough for both shoes and the boost looked close to new.

u/spmusik · 1 pointr/Sneakers

I’ve done exactly this on 3 pairs of boost kicks.

SHARPIE MED WHT OB PAINT MARKER

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PLKRZQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1m-5Cb01Z8CAY

u/afipanic · 1 pointr/Sneakers

I use this type of sharpie to paint my boost back to white on other pairs. They have a black, you could give it ago and see what happens.

u/PoserMobile45 · 3 pointsr/Sneakers

I'm going to get alot of shit for this! When I got the shoes the midsoles were BURNT yellow, hadn't been cleaned in years. After I hit them with the Jason Markk, I purchased this sharpie and colored over the midsole, made it crispy white. It's an oil based white and made them look BRAND NEW! Hope that helps.

u/spacepod · 1 pointr/WaltDisneyWorld

I've heard oil markers work really well

u/teddyzaper · 1 pointr/Multicopter

use these. you can re-apply after crashes to keep looking fresh

u/sandgroper1968 · 1 pointr/Stained_Glass

Cheap too!

u/estvisus · 1 pointr/Watercolor

Hi, I use the Uni-ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen, white although I will soon start also using the Uni Pc-1MR Posca Marker Ultra Fine White once I purchase it since the pen I currently use does not spread too well on some work.

u/diecastphotography · 3 pointsr/HotWheels

If you're in the states, get yourself a Molotow Liquid Chrome marker.

Molotow Amazon Link For Reference.

u/Ouranox · 1 pointr/Sneakers

I used an oil based marker, more specifically this one. I made a previous post showing the before and after here. The good thing about this method is that there's no cracking since it's ink not paint although I'm still waiting to see how long it takes before the ink wears out after wear.

u/Barrelrolll · 3 pointsr/FiestaST

I used one of these. It took about 15 minutes per wheel to put on two coats. Because the tires were brand new, I did not have to clean them off or anything. I have already taken it through a car wash and the lettering stayed on fine.

Here is the link to the pen I used. It's oil based so it won't come off with water.

u/ThatClassyBear · 1 pointr/RepTime

Should of bought a Molotow pen.

u/a1dsinabucket · 5 pointsr/chickswearingchucks

You can actually get this white sharpie and draw it on the sole of your shoe to make it white and then use nail polish remover to get it off anywhere you dont want it

u/tagrav · 1 pointr/discgolf

yeah that's what I was worried about. this is the type of pen in question https://www.amazon.com/Sanford-35558-Sharpie-Oil-Based-1-Count/dp/B001PLKRZQ/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1518016762&sr=8-8&keywords=sharpie+paint+markers

I'm not sure it adds any thickness as a fingernail doesnt even seem to hitch on it :-/

u/4_jacks · 1 pointr/BMWZ4

4 coats with the Sharpie and then use the razor to scrap away all the places I messed up.

Forgive the dirty wheels.
