Welcome to the frozen north and brace yourself - winter straight up sucks. Here are some things that will make it better!!:

These bad boys will keep you from falling on your butt when you're walking on icy roads and parking lots.
A heated mattress pad will keep your bed nice and toasty warm! Sanctuary!!!!
In a similar vein, a heated throw blanket will keep you warm while you're on the couch. The great thing about heated mattress pads/throw blankets/etc. is that it keeps you warm without you needing to turn the heat up, using less heating oil. And using less heating oil is a GOOD THING!
They aren't sexy, but long underwear are effective at keeping the cold at bay.
Chintzy cotton socks aren't gonna cut it anymore. Invest in some solid wool socks. Yes, they cost a lot, but they are worth their weight in gold!

Don't worry - you'll make it :)

u/solidad · 2 pointsr/sex

Multiple options in different price ranges:

  • Puppy pads - Cheap, disposable but can feel like laying on a diaper and may not cover a big enough area depending on what you are doing.

  • Liberator throw - Has dual sided design. One side is satin the other is microfiber. About 100$. Some complaints of "zero abzorption".

  • No more wetspots - We own this. It has dual sided absorption and is basically 2 "shammy" (microfiber) clothes fused together to a waterproof (non crinkly) liner. Basically liquids from one side won't leak to the other so it can be used quite a bit. My SO is a squirter and we are swingers so we needed a towel that would last. This blanket is GREAT and has lasted through multiple washings / drying (on low) so far. Highly, HIGHLY recommend it. I would get the red and black one. Nice for more "darker" stains if that happens.

Mattress protectors may not have the absorption you want. And then you have to take it off after every "play session." A bigger "blanket" style will be easier to just grab and throw it down as needed.
u/lhbtubajon · 4 pointsr/TeardropTrailers
  1. This looks like way overkill to me. It's designed to heat up an entire room, some 800 - 1400 ft^3. A teardrop is going to be way less than 200 ft^3. More like 90 for an interior than is 6'x5'x3'. Remember also that you are a heater. A human body at rest generates about 250 BTUs / hr. So how much heating do you need? Take the 6,000 BTU heater you linked, which is able to heat a 10x12x8 room. The volume of the teardrop is 0.075 as much as the room, so you'll need roughly 0.075 as much heat. If we accept 6,000 BTUs as necessary for the room, then the teardrop will require about 450 BTUs. But remember that your body generates 250 at rest. And if there's two of you in the teardrop, you're generating about 500 BTUs of heat, which exceeds the capabilities of the heater! So you really just need a little heat boost to take the edge off the cold before you get in the trailer (say in the evenings), and your own body heat should keep things cozy the rest of the night.

  2. This is a natural gas heater. Will you be carrying NG?

Consider a very small electric heater. You shouldn't need to use it a lot, and a very small amount of electricity should go a long way here. Couple it with a marine battery and it should last you for days, if you don't leave it on when it's not needed.

Edit: It strikes me that a decent electric blanket would be an awesome solution. It's exactly the right size, puts out a good amount of heat for that amount of space, and they come in both AC and DC varieties. Just turn it on half an hour before you plan to go to bed, and I bet your trailer will be toasty warm by the time you're ready for it.

Edit 2: For example, this Queen sized electric blanket produces about 560 BTUs/hr, takes about 15 minutes to warm up, and has an auto shutoff feature.
u/adovest · 2 pointsr/mentalhealth

This is the weighted blanket that my mom got me for Christmas. It has the weight guidelines too. Mine is 25lbs and my sister's is 20lbs. I absolutely love it. Also, the same company has corresponding duvet covers for them to keep them easy to clean. I just got a simple cotton one, but they also have minky ones and whatnot.

Also - this is one of the best fidget toys I've ever found. It comes in more masculine colors too, but it's basically a fidget ring. I put it on my forefinger and spin it with my thumb. I love that it's discreet, doesn't make noise, and is easy to use.

Wow that's a really light fleece blanket. When you get it yourself, weigh it and do a write up if you like it. Seems like a good value.

That being said, in a hammock (from my experience, yours could differ), bottom insulation is more important than insulation on top. I think it'd be worth considering a switch-a-roo: bring the 20 degree UQ and ditch the top quilt for the fleece in warm weather like you're describing. Just a thought!

u/ttlens · 2 pointsr/japanlife

I have one of these. It's 188x130cm, but they don't mention the size on the Amazon page. You can see it on the maker's page though.

It works great. I have a top sheet, then the electric blanket, then a futon on top of that. I turn it on mid-high about an hour before getting into bed and the bed is super warm when I get in. I change it to a low-mid setting and stay toasty warm all night.

u/bluewolf37 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife
  1. i sometimes use A good fan that downs out sound. I would link mine but it doesn’t seem like they make it anymore.
  2. A weighted blanket i got this one one. I do think i should have went for the 25 lb one though. It does make it so I’m not as anxious at night.
  3. if light is a problem i use this silk sleep masks. You get two so i have one in the car and one at home. I bought them when i was working overnights.
  4. I sadly don’t have earbud recommendation as i just use my echo as i don’t have to worry about waking anyone up. But i do listen to this playlist or sometimes i use this app if you don’t want to use the app for sleep sounds i believe Spotify also has them.
  5. i also bought super soft microfiber blankets that feel wonderful (although the brand i bought seem to have went out of business or something)
  6. i also bought 800 thread count Egyptian Cotton sheets. (It was special Jennifer Lopez brand that only popped up for a bit and only found in stores) They have so far lasted longer and are softer than any sheets i have bought on amazon. I always have two sets of sheets in case i need to change it for some reason. I actually now avoid amazon for buying sheets as there’s a lot of tricks the brands on there try. There’s a brand called Egyptian Cotton that doesn’t sell Egyptian cotton sheets. There’s another brand that is like 1000 tc making you think it’s 1000 thread count but it’s not. I also found my 800 tc sheets are softer than the last 1800 tc sheets that ripped after a year. Go to bed bath and Beyond or similar store to buy them.

Edit: have you looked into the wireless headband headphones? I haven’t tried them but they have a good rating and fakespot hasn’t found any deception.
u/see-pause-run · 2 pointsr/vandwellers

I first started vandwelling in the dead of New England winter - our first night in the van was 15 degrees F! (-9 C). A couple of things that I found helpful to make it more comfortable (until we were able to drive South to warmer weather):

  • layers - you can always add more blankets. The trick is making sure that you aren't TOO warm (because sweating while you sleep in the cold will make it much, much worse)
  • low-voltage (DC) electric blanket - I bought this one and it's worked super well for me throughout the years. Even on the coldest nights I would never need to turn it on any higher than 3/10, and the power use was absolutely minimal. With 200W of solar and 200Ah of battery (along with a 12v fridge running constantly and an inverter charging our electronics) we never even really noticed the power draw from the blanket.

  • VENTILATE - the shitty truth is that unless you properly ventilate your van, every solid surface will collect condensation as you sleep that will either a) freeze before morning, assuming it's cold enough, or b) begin the molding process. Both of these are NOT fun to deal with. The absolute best way to deal with this is to install a roof-mounted vent/fan combo (the 'Fan-tastic Vent' or 'MaxxAir vent' are often recommended). If you don't feel like sawing through the roof of your vehicle, your other option is to open as many windows as you can manage every night. Our rig has screened sliding windows in the back that we would open no matter the weather. We also bought a tiny usb-powered 5v fan from Walmart to improve airflow a little bit. If we didn't have the windows open in the cold, the inside of our windshield froze over. Not fun.

u/JoyfulSloth · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

Similarly, I bought this and love it. Pinzon is Amazon's own brand , so I think that helps with easier returns and quality concerns ( hopefully none) in the future. I've had it for about 2 years and it's great. I machined washed it on no spin and it was fine.

Pinzon Velvet Plush Blanket - King, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS4UIAO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_pe.pybDHFAJQ7

u/orcinovein · 7 pointsr/malelivingspace
  • Brookelinen for sheets

  • Down pillows from Target are ridiculously comfortable. Just make sure to get the firmness you like.

  • And since we are spending money here... read the reviews on the Hudson Bay blanket and then convince yourself not to buy it.

  • I think small LED string lights can look very nice if done correctly. I went to Michaels and bought two birch logs, stuck them in a vase, put a few rocks in the bottom and then tightly wound string lights one of the branches. I have it on a sunset/sunrise dimmer that automatically turns it on when the sun sets. I like the lighting it adds while also not becoming too feminine.
u/PeroxidePoofter · 4 pointsr/sewing

I had this exact same blanket in my childhood home and I loved it. I'm assuming you have a similar sentimental attachment to this blanket but if you want to buy another one I found it on Amazon for a pretty decent price: https://www.amazon.com/Double-Blanket-Featuring-Decorative-Tassels/dp/B01H77IG7C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1488168973&sr=8-2&keywords=Sun+blanket

u/alainacarmen · 3 pointsr/GiftIdeas

I LOVE my weighted blanket. I got a twin size on Amazon for about $60. The price depends on the weight that you want. The general rule of thumb is 1 pound per 10 pounds of body weight plus 1 pound extra.

Target and Walmart are also starting to sell them and prices may me cheaper there. The weight rule is just to give you an idea, a lot of people like lighter ones, especially if you want it for the couch and not sleeping in bed.

Here’s mine, It’s just a few dollars over budget and ships on prime.

u/CharlesP2009 · 1 pointr/Hypothyroidism

2015 and 2016 were rough for me during winter since I hadn't been diagnosed yet. I spend a considerable amount of time outside at work. And I didn't want to crank the heat in my home and toast friends/family so here's what I used to cope:

I got a nice warm down comforter for my bed.

A heated throw blanket to use around the house.

Zippo hand warmer for times outside.

And thermal under garments. Top. Bottom.

I've also had a Presto heat dish for a number of years. I think I paid $60 at Costco but the going rate seems to be double that now. It's nice because it directs the heat at you rather than warming an entire room.

u/gummy_bear_time · 1 pointr/GiftIdeas

> Maybe get them something as a couple, then a other items for each person?

I'd stick to individual gifts OR one couples gift, not both.

For the girl, I'd get her a Game of Thrones-inspired throw blanket. I have one of these and can vouch for them being insanely soft. Then I'd add something more personal like a framed photo of you two to put up in her new apartment.

For the guy, maybe wine glasses and a bottle of wine? Could be perceived as a romantic gesture between you two, or he can drink the wine with the girl.

u/EllieZPage · 2 pointsr/sex

No problem! If it helps, I had to find the right clitoral stimulation too. I have the best luck with wand vibrators like hitachi.

The brand I was thinking of is actually Liberator, not Sportsheets.

u/wheresmysmokes · 14 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I've lived in Michigan all my life and always tried to get away with cute peacoats, etc until I had it one year and declared war on winter. I started wearing thermal underwear all winter under my clothes and my quality of life In general was so much better.. Try to find a down coat if possible. Also maybe get some big warm blankets for when you're inside? I like the ones that have two layers like this. I'm literally covered on one with a heating pad under my butt just to stay warm right now. Oh, also I sleep with a heating pad to keep me warm at night.

This, YnM brand is the type I have, i believe 17lb in a Full size? I adore it. Still need to buy a cover for it almost a year later but it’s softened up enough to not be uncomfortable on my skin, and the weights are distributed throughout the filling very comfortably

I doubt you will be happy with that blanket. I personally detest the surplus blankets. They are hit or miss quality, most of them smell, and they are almost never 100% wool. We all love wool but fleece out performs wool pound for pound. It’s not naturally fire resistant but it wrings dry and cost next to nothing by comparison.

I have hit the trails with this blanket in king before. It was my go to for 40°F and warmer until I finally got a down blanket.

u/alternageek2 · 1 pointr/HelpMeFind

Wow I had a blanket on my bed with the same print. It came from sears. That's some nostalgia. There's a blanket here that looks like it. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01H77IG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0kB3Db2HF7389

u/cool_wifey · 9 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

If it is for around the house, I would seriously consider investing the money instead in a soft, luxurious throw blanket. When my fiance and I moved in together, I had my one throw blanket, about $45 (not the cheapest one out there) and we fought over it each day until I bought him one. It's easy, portable and realistically, how much would he be walking around the house vs. just sitting on the couch anyways?

Amazon has some great ones, mine is very similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Tache-Inches-Holiday-Sherpa-Blanket/dp/B00FGBTZBI/ref=sr_1_30?s=bedbath&ie=UTF8&qid=1415068640&sr=1-30&keywords=throw+blanket

u/VexBoxx · 2 pointsr/secretsanta

If you're okay spending about $33, I guarantee that a heated throw blanket would go over like gangbusters. They're my go-to gift for these types of things and people always go nuts for them.

I really like mine from amazon! It is still pretty breathable with being heavy. I will say it’s a way better nap blanket than a sleeping blanket but I do move around a lot at night.

I had a lot of issues with the feathers, as well as an allergic reaction.

I'd like something lightweight, suitcase-packable, hypoallergenic, washable, and doesn't shed. I looked on Amazon, and there are rave reviews on

polar fleece: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J7B8T5Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_RCsVAbT1RHJKW

microfiber Sherpa throw: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0158ER0E6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_EDsVAbVF2DZ9J

But I have no idea if any of these and similar hold up during NYC winters.

u/KamuiSeph · 3 pointsr/Frugal

I'm in an unrelated situation, but slightly similar. Was looking to cut down on my heating bills. Buy an electric blanket. I got mine for 25 bucks (granted I'm in Japan so YMMV). That and get some insulation for your doors. You can get some for cheap in a dept store I imagine. Like a small roll of thick insulation tape.
Overall with tape and my blanket I halved my electricity from last winter. And the expenses I spent on the blanket and insulation have already paid for themselves with this month's bill difference.

u/ThatOtherOneGuy · 6 pointsr/drumcorps

This plus two of these (one to sleep on and one to sleep under) is all you need.

Cots aren't worth the space needed and air mattresses aren't worth the time it takes to set them up, the noise with it, or the space.

u/atone410 · 7 pointsr/CPTSD

They come in different sizes, actually. But one based on your weight. For me, I have the 15 lb for 140lbs.

I have been unable to sleep through the night for years. Maybe life. I'm not sure, I don't really remember. I'll lay in bed for an hour or two before I finally fall asleep. And halfway through the night, every night, on schedule, I'm awake between 3-4am crying and experiencing an anxiety attack.

But I got this blanket a week ago and I've been out like a light throughout the night. I just feel so comfortable and safe and warm. Sometimes it's a pain to adjust because it's so heavy and I'm so wimpy, it does get hot sometimes because I turn into a nuclear reactor when asleep apparently, and FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THINGS HOLY DON'T FART (it'll stick around ALL night. ALL. NIGHT.) But it has helped me feel human. I feel good. I haven't had an anxiety attack at night since I got this.

Here's the one I got if you were looking for a recommend: YnM Weighted Blanket

The most expensive and most outrageous on all my lists would be this weighted blanket
Plus this [cover] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753L52YX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6AkUzbCQYXQJF)

The only other items in an even comparable price range is Rosetta Stone software and a 10pc set of copper ceramic cookware.

Girl! I'm a heavy squirter too. Do NOT waste time with a towel. It makes an even bigger mess. Get this. Its worth every single penny. Put it down first, go to town, then throw it in the wash. No wet spot at all.

I'll add that I don't have many skin sensitivity sensory issues, but it doesn't seem scratchy to me and I sleep naked underneath it, though you could probably just put it on top of whatever blanket you currently use.

I don't have any issues with excessive heat, but I tend to only use that blanket and also I keep the temperature at 68 F at night in the winter. I imagine I won't be able to use it much in summer, but it works for now.

Ive only had it for two months, though, but I have no complaints so far.

I had to sleep under one of these in one of my psych hospital stays, I thought they fucking sucked, they were so uncomfortable, they just irritate your entire body
