(Reposting from a different thread I replied to previously, plus some modifications with better details)

I have done this on a 2017, which should use a similar system and can be swapped out in the same fashion. There are a few caveats that may sway your decision however.

The radio I bought for my Corolla is the Kenwood DMX-905S, but you can get any radio that has the iDatalink Serial port on the back (should be mentioned specifically in the description on whatever site you buy it from) which brings me to the next point...

I used the iDatalink Maestro RR with the TO2 harness that allowed a very straight-forward installation with no modification to the factory wiring. This module allows your radio to interface with all the OEM functionality that is normally configured with the radio and prevents having to deal with a metric ton of ridiculous wiring. This is not where this story ends, however.

The Maestro and harness kits do not come with the adapters required for factory USB, Aux (sort of), AM/FM radio, GPS, Satellite Radio, or any integration for the factory microphone. This last part is what has pained me the most in this whole thing, as I've yet to install the aftermarket microphone or make the attempts necessary to try to get the factory one working. I've got lots of wiring diagrams, but no free time. There have supposedly been some successful attempts online, but naturally only by someone who was planning to sell adapters for it and essentially abandoned the forum and project entirely without ever releasing ANY details.

I used this Axxess adapter for the factory USB. Fits perfectly, just plug into the radio and the factory connector. Wrap the radio USB end with TESA tape so it doesn't disconnect.

The antenna adapters for GPS and Satellite Radio are available from iDatalink as the ACC-SAT-TO2 kit. They should connect directly to the factory harnesses and then to the new radio, but if they don't work for you this is not required to be a specific iDatalink replacement so you may be able to find another brand that works. I own this kit, but have yet to install it in my Corolla so I can't officially vouch for it.

I ordered the Metra 40-LX11 for the AM/FM radio antenna (I have yet to actually install it so I can't vouch for it 100% but it should be fine). I did do some research after someone else mentioned this in the previous thread and despite the strange image on the Amazon page it does indeed have the radio connector and the blue power wire which is required for it to function.

For auxiliary input, you do get the aux connection as RCAs, but you may need to invest in a female RCA to male 3.5mm adapter depending on what your radio expects for the aux connection. Most likely, you will need the adapter. Don't bother with the one that has red white AND yellow because it's only wired for red and white (audio). Something like this should work fine.

Last but not least, you'll need a dash kit. I'm not certain which one you'll need on the 2015, but don't buy the Metra ones. Hot. Garbage. Just go to https://www.crutchfield.com/ and put in your model/year/etc.

As some general advice, I recommend getting some TESA tape and wrapping all your connections. Please for the love of Cthulhu do not wrap your wires in electrical tape if you value your sanity. TESA tape is fabric tape and is absolutely delightful to use, plus it looks good. Also, invest in plastic panel pry tools so you don't ruin your dash trying to get the radio out. You will likely need a 10mm socket to remove the factory radio.

I hope this is probably more than enough information to get you on the right track. Feel free to PM me if you have questions!

If you want it to be easy as possible, you can use one of these (and you'll need to pick up a maestro sw or rr):

https://www.amazon.com/AutoHarnessHouse-Aftermarket-Installation-compatible-2016-2019/dp/B07GD8627K/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=autoharnesshouse+brz&qid=1573219865&sr=8-1

That covers the steering wheel controls and camera, antenna amp, and factory amp. You'll need to add a pin and wire on the harness (it's included) to power up the factory amp and door speakers. Also, ignore the instructions included on the two 5-pin connectors - just connect the two on the harness together if it's not shipped as such. If you want to try to keep costs down and make your own, you'll need to wire in a voltage converter for the camera power feed.

You'll also need the standard Toyota harness for the rest of the speakers. You can use one of AutoHarnessHouse direct connect Pioneer ones, or just make your own a little cheaper. I believe this is the part, but please double check - I don't have the part number handy right now (You can actually get these at Best Buy, it's in their computer system):
https://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-1761-Wiring-Harness-Speaker/dp/B0002BEQJ8/ref=sr_1_1?crid=344R0OVLJ7ACT&keywords=metra+toyota+harness&qid=1573220037&sprefix=metra+toyo%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-1

For the 4500, I also recommend either wiring up their GPS antenna, or just using an adapter for the OEM one (I went this route just to keep things clean). This pack contains the correct adapter (it's the one with the bright green end, maybe you can find it standalone cheaper):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K03PORU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you don't hook up the GPS antenna, the head unit will throw up an error message every time you start up a navigation app in AndroidAuto (it'll still work, it's just annoying).

Lastly, don't forget an antenna adapter and (optionally the OEM USB port adapter cable). I opted not to use the USB port since I have a high speed charger that uses a 12v socket. Same as above, please double check this to make sure it is the right one, but here's what the antenna adapter looks like:

https://www.amazon.com/Metra-40-LX11-Antenna-Adaptor-Select/dp/B00JYHSDKO/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp?keywords=toyota+antenna+adapter&pd_rd_i=B00JYHSDKO&pd_rd_r=aae8b955-0220-497c-bcd6-480183748bd8&pd_rd_w=bmQ4P&pd_rd_wg=7ZU9O&pf_rd_p=a6d018ad-f20b-46c9-8920-433972c7d9b7&pf_rd_r=F20PSH58JCQN60PP1T5G&qid=1573220626

You'll need to wire in the blue wire to power the antenna amp. Don't hook it up to a constant 12v feed (yello), either use a switched feed, or wire it to the matching blue feed on the back of the harness (it's the one that feeds out of the two pins jumped together by a blue wire).

Sorry I can't be 100% on the last couple of adapters - if you have trouble confirming feel free to DM me and I will be happy to check when I get home from work, I kept the packaging for later reference, and again, Best Buy does have these in their computer, so even if your local one doesn't carry them, they should at least be able to give you the part number.

I've just changed out my factory stereo with a new Alpine deck and couldn't have been happier on how easy it was. As long as you have the right wiring harness (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007KPRK6), dash adapter kit (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-6505-Dodge-98-UP-Pocket/dp/B0007WTFB6) and antenna adapter (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-40-CR10-Chrysler-Antenna-Adapter/dp/B0002BEQNE) then you'll be happy. You can buy all three from Amazon for less than $20.
Installation is a breeze too - stereo manufacturers have standardized on cable colors so hooking everything up to the harness was easy. To get the factory stereo out it takes popping out the vent with a screwdriver, 2 phillips head screws hold in the front fascia and then that pops out. 4 phillips head screws hold in the stereo and one 10mm nut on the back of the stereo. This pops out easy. Then you plug the new wiring harness in, plug the new antenna adapter in and screw the new stereo in the dash adapter back into the holes. Pop everything back into place and you should be good to go.
super_noodle has good points about the factory speakers - you definitely want to replace those as well. Super easy job as well as long as you have the right harness adapters (Amazon is a great place eh?)
Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice or assistance.

At that budget level, you're going to be looking at more budget oriented radios from the likes of Baofeng, TYT, QYT, Leixn, and the other assorted Chinese manufacturers. The one you mentioned is not a bad choice, so let's run with that...

  • Radio - $128.86

  • 8Ah SLA battery - $17.77

    -or-

  • 20Ah SLA battery if you don't mind the extra size and weight - $38.00

  • Battery charger - $21.85

  • You'll need an antenna. I'm guessing you don't have a vehicle to attach a mobile antenna too, so I'd recommend something that attaches directly to the back of the radio, like this antenna. I actually have one and it's surprisingly decent for the price. - $12.99

  • You'll need a right angle PL-259 to BNC adapter to properly attach this antenna to your radio - $7.49

side note: For a mag mount antenna, the Tram 1185 is a good cheap option at $21.63

additional side note: Neither one of these antennas I mentioned is tri band capable, they're dual band 2m/70cm only. Tri band 2m/1.25/70cm antennas are considerably more expensive. Unless there's regular 1.25m activity in your area, you may wish to reconsider your need for having this band.

Total: $188.96 or $209.19 if you choose the 20Ah battery option.

Use whatever is left over for a case. A nice Pelican will probably consume the rest of your budget. Or you could go down to your local sporting goods store and browse the handgun cases there. You'll probably be able to find something good for $15-30 and have a few bucks left over. I found this 4 pistol case at my local Sportsmans Warehouse, it's cheap, reaonably well built, and is a pretty good size. I can fit a small army of handheld radios and associated paraphernalia in mine, so it should be big enough to hold a mobile rig plus battery.
u/iPhantasy · 2 pointsr/ft86

There are 3 different connectors that you'll have to hook up to the connector that comes with the head unit that plugs into the head unit itself. The other 3 connectors are VERY easy to install. 0 electrical engineering education, but common sense and the color coded instructions on the back of the packaging explains all you need to know.

Radio Antenna harness

Main connection (two main connectors that came out of the factory head unit)

USB Connector (if your car came with usb at the bottom right of the center console)

Should mention that the stock AUX connection won't function. You will have to run an extension from the back of the head unit to somewhere in your car. I routed mine to the left side of the passenger seat held up by this thing.

I don't use the microphone for bluetooth so that's not connected. I don't plan on using my head unit for displaying for any video sources so I didn't bother hooking up the hand brake bypass. The GPS antenna I just stuck to some metal plate that was inside the head unit cavity (pretty strong magnet and pretty accurate).

You may want to pick up a bracket like this. to fill in the rest of the head unit cavity along the sides. I'm not too sure if this is the exact one for the head unit. Crutchfield automatically told me what parts I would need to completely setup the head unit including the bracket and connectors. I couldn't find yours on the site so I can't tell you exactly which bracket to get. They're both Pioneer head units so it's worth a try. The bracket is a generic bracket made for most Toyota cavities to support double DIN sized head units. I had to do some slight Dremel work to get everything to line up with the stock mounting bracket. A solid afternoon with everything and I was set by the end of the day.

I had to contact OEM Audio Plus about how to get power to their amplifier because they have a replacement harness for the stock harness. But that's information that doesn't pertain to you unless you own their system with a subwoofer.

Tl;dr: Links 1-3 are what you need to connect everything. Link 4 is some random accessory I bought that happened to work things out. Link 5 is a bracket adapter to the stock bracket. Last link is the site that showed me all the stuff I needed and I just looked them all up on Amazon.

u/Bezzle59 · 3 pointsr/CarAV

I prefer the one with the lightning connector (IS7705) but the bluetooth one (ISFM2351) works fine and gives you hands free as well. Either way, though, you'll need both forward and reverse antenna adapters. I recommend professional install if you're not comfortable taking panels apart, figuring out what wire you should use, running wires, or mounting switches. Best Buy carries these units so you can go there and talk to an installer to figure out the best thing for you. You're going to be looking around the $200 mark (more for the Bluetooth model) with everything installed.

A couple people have said they may want to try this in the future. Let me post some helpful info for you guys that helped me along the way:

First here is a very helpful image of the wiring for the stereo harness for my 2011 F150 XLT 4DR SuperCab (not super crew) 5.0L V8 with SYNC and with integrated factory radio (see first image in the imgur album linked at the top of this post):

http://imgur.com/0TGvfZj

As you can see, and as I've said a couple times in this post, there is no accessory wire. This is really useful to have as the stereo will know when to turn itself on/off when you insert/remove the key. This post:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1118879-2011-wiring-diagram.html

showed me where I could find the accessory wire in the ignition harness. This video is helpful:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0dM2d9UEtk

in showing how gain access to the ignition harnesses, and at 1:20, he'll unplug the main ignition harness that contained the purple/green accessory cable. Note in the link i posted with the wiring diagram, it shows the accessory wire being in a harness that contains two rows of pins, but I tapped into a purple/green accessory cable that was in a harness that only contained 1 row (see video).

This is the exact trim I purchased:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BG4NNQW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

which came with mounting brackets (OEM mounting brackets did not fit my new stereo head unit) for the stereo as well as a face plate for the stereo.

I opted to NOT retain my SYNC, as I didn't see the benefit of it. My new stereo unit had bluetooth so there was no need to use sync. This:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4PJC9K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

helps maintain the VOL +/- as well as the Prev/Next buttons on the steering wheel. Sync buttons no longer do anything.

You will need this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BEQNE?keywords=chrysler%202002%20antenna&qid=1453138917&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

which connects the stock FM/AM tuner radio antenna to your new radio. I used this backup cam:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q65ZIK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

which mounts on your license plate. Quick easy and cheap. I did purchase a wireless video transmitter, but it didnt work well, and just ended up running the video cable under the truck (was pretty easy with no lift too), through the firewall, under the steering wheel, and into the center dash. Hope this proves helpful to others!

Ok mobile at the moment do I can't dig too far in but here's some quick results that look like they should work.

[Scosche NN03B Wire Harness to Connect An Aftermarket Stereo Receiver for Select 1995-Up Infiniti/Nissan] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007KPS0A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_s1NvCbF8GSD2Y)

The job was simple enough if you're familiar with wiring. Match the functions of the harness that comes with the stereo with the adapter, crimp then together and bolt it all back together.

One thing to note is that there is no ground in the factory wiring. You will need to run one separately. I'd suggest hitting a bolt to the chassis nearby to minimize any ground loops.

I'm sure you can find a good write up over at the nextera forums if you get stuck.

Another note of caution. The two metal retaining clips in the bezel love to scratch the dash. Cover it with a cloth to save the surfaces.

as for radios with navigation built in. they start around $550 and some will have the ability to do apple carplay or android auto. as for satellite radio, most do not come with it BUT they have the ability to have it added easily. usually a $35 to $50 tuner which can be connected to most aftermarket stereos. then you just transfer account to new sirius tuner ID and you are good to go.

I have an 01' but Im pretty sure that this, or something similar, will work and it looks pretty stock, you also need an RCA to 3.5mm adaptor, I got this one
this thing basically bypasses your FM antenna and gives you an aux input, I put mine under the climate control and the input and switch are hidden behind the DIN pocket

it looks like the antenna size might be different in the 06(i cant really tell), but there are adaptors

I would suggest following the linked guide with a few changes / notes below : https://www.fiat500owners.com/threads/how-to-2012-fiat-500-double-din-radio-install.7412/

  1. The double din dash adapter seems a bit iffy from the Amazon reviews, YMMV: https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-FT4276B-Double-Select-Vehicles/dp/B00RL9L9F8/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=FT4276B&qid=1573525758&sr=8-1
  2. Antenna Adapter on Amazon for ~10 bucks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DWLTP6R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. For the headunit I'm assuming you'd want bluetooth and Android Auto / Apple Carplay? I would highly suggest the Kenwood DMX706S : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SMBMQ5Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. To use the head unit after install without actually splicing your parking brake and other cables, get the Kenwood bypass cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FY8P9QC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  5. To tie all this together, you'll need the wiring harness. I suggest idatamaestro:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E4W1644/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012F8RC1Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You will make an account and flash the firmware to the appropriate car make/year and head unit model.

I've only installed a basic 1 DIN stereo on my old 2013 500. I suggested the above head unit and wiring harness because I've installed that on my 2017 500 and had great results. Best of luck.

Yes. I have a pioneer w4400nex in my 2018 wrx base model. Great headunit with wireless CarPlay. It’s relatively plug and play with a harness from autoharnesshouse. Here are all the links:

Those are all the harnesses/wires you’ll need to make it plug and play. The USB adapter might not work if your car has 2 USB ports in the center console. This shouldn’t be a problem anyways since CarPlay is wireless. The USB ports will still charge your phone regardless. If you have the base wrx, it’ll be fine. On YouTube there are plenty of install vids if you ever feel confused.
Edit: the guy from autoharnesshouse (Brian) is also very friendly if you have any questions about the harness, just email him.

u/amd_kenobi · 1 pointr/cbradio

A hood channel mount like this firestik or this procomm with an antenna like this Tram or this firestik should work well and not look terribly out of place on a small car. A small mag mount like a K30 or lil will would be another good, non-permanent option.

u/Pele2048 · 1 pointr/amateurradio

First things first, That SWR meter is for 27 MHz. That's the 11 meter (CB Radio) band. Your radio is a dual band VHF/UHF. That'd be the 2 meter and 70 cm band. Those are around 144 and 440 MHz respectively.

The cable you've posted is an NMO mount, it REQUIRES drilling.

Return both of those items.

You can try for a magnetic mount

You can also try a trunk mount on the edge of the tailgate.

Do you have a roof rack on that Tahoe? This might do the trick. (You add a standard NMO cable like the one you originally ordered.)

Often people drill the body because a perfectly circular hole is very easy to plug up with rubber hole plugs

On an S only, yes.

I had to buy Nissan wiring harnesses and solder them, I paid for a day of the Nissan service manual to get the wiring diagram for the car, as well as a little black box that could respond to the steering wheel buttons.

All said and done it functioned perfectly, and I had Android Auto that functions better than on my 2018.

I'll try to look up my material list and put it here.

Best option for keeping your factory head unit is going with a universal Isimple. You will still need antenna adapters, found on amazon (forward and reverse for $5ech but if you have a best buy around you and you buy it from them the price includes install minus parts. Others have said go aftermarket which is a great option but it can cost significantly more especially if you have factory premium sound.

Looks great! Is that Tank green? You must have gotten one of the last few made if it's a 2016. Here's my 2015. Now you've got me wanting to upgrade the tires and bumper. If you don't care too much about radio reception, I'd recommend an Antenna X, it looks better with the black and green in my opinion.

u/95688it · 1 pointr/subaruimpreza

it's complicated, i did it when i first bought my 16'.

and don't let just any audio installer do it, they'll just hack the shit out of the harness.

you need about $200 in parts besides the headunit to do it properly

shit and it looks like the link to the blog on how to do it is gone :(

http://roflitsowens.blogspot.com/2015/12/2016-subaru-wrx-replacing-starlink-head.html

basically you need:

dash install kit

wire to keep OEM backup camera

30pin adapter you'll cut it in half and use it for hooking all these various things together

Maestro to retain steering wheel control, there's a cheaper version though with less features

adapter to retain USB

adapter for stock antenna

adapter for radio so you don't have to cut anything

and i'm pretty sure i'm forgetting something else.

most of these things all have to be wired into the 30 pin connector, it was much easier to figure it all out on my workbench and solder it properly then install everything, took me about 2 days to do.

Hey OP, thanks for starting this thread and uploading your video to YouTube. Very helpful for my decision to order this. I'm trying to figure out if the antenna plug is "normal" or "mini." For most other head units, I've been recommended to get one of these adapters. Can you shed any light on this?

I'm assuming you don't have the navigation system since you said it's "very base". You need this. To install, you would need to crimp / solder the ends of the cables in your first picture to the matching color / function cable on the harness. Take a look at this short tutorial.

Take a look at the Wire Code Chart on that product page. The cables on the female plug should also be labeled. In 99% of cases, you would just match red to red, yellow to yellow, black to black, etc. But I personally confirm each color / function is the same (sometimes, there's an error).

From there, you would plug the Metra wiring harness to the black plug of your second picture. You can't plug it wrong - the connectors literally fit one way only.

As for your antenna, that little mini stethoscope looking thing is called a mini-style plug. You need an adapter like this. The male end of your current antenna lead goes to the female end of the adapter and then the male end of the adapter plugs into the female socket of the BOSS stereo. Crutchfield confirms that you may need that adapter (Product ID Metra 40-VW21, OEM male to Motorola female).

Buy a single DIN aftermarket radio of your liking.

Buy a single DIN faceplate adapter like this.

Buy a wire harness that will plug into the factory radio connector like this. This will prevent you from hacking the factory wiring to connect it to the aftermarket radio harness.

It may require you to buy this adapter for the factory attenna connect into the aftermarket radio.

Install is pretty easy, search google for walkthroughs if you get stuck.

Does your car have steering wheel controls? If so, you'll lose that feature, there's ways to make it work but they're pricey.

That it for parts, There is not much info on the 2017 Camry, but it looks like the stereo is the same as the 2016, if you could post a pic of the connectors I can make sure these parts are right. But these should be the correct parts.

Do yourself a favor and get a reverse harness set from something like Metra. It'll break out the connections into bare wires in fairly standard color coding. Yellow is hot +12V, Red is switched +12V, Black is Ground, Blue is amp +12V, etc.

This assumes you don't have bose or onstar, and if any of this is confusing I'd give Sonic Electronix or Crutchfield a call to make sure you get the right stuff for your head unit. I would bridge channels 1-4 into just your front speakers, leave the rear stock and powered by the hu for now.

The above is ~500. The next dollars I would spend would be for this

>FM Direct Adapter, but after pulling the stock radio (not touchscreen), the antenna uses a seemingly proprietary connection.

There's always an adapter. This might be the one for you. Try Crutchfield and chat/call someone to be sure.

I did a Sony XAV-AX100 + Scosche kit + Metra harness + Metra antenna adapter + another adapter + Metra ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Controls + backup camera.

To be clear, it was kinda a bitch to get it all installed and working but 100% worth it now. Shoutout to /u/bon_temps for the camera link and advice, looks completely factory once installed.

u/notetoself23 · 2 pointsr/CarAV

Well now that you mention it.. I plugged everything in today to test it out and the radio powered on. I can play a CD over the one speaker that I have. But the radio is all static. I read somewhere that all GM model 88 and up need and antenna adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-Mda-B-Micro-Antenna-Adapter/dp/B00009UHRI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1421898533&sr=1-1&keywords=gm+micro+tip in order to connect the antenna.. The antenna seemed to fit in the stereo's plug fine but maybe this could be what I am missing?

If you live anywhere that it is hot or sunny, gotta start with tinting the front windows and windshield. 20% to match the factory, llumar air 80 on the front. Or if you don't want darker windows, you could do that air 80 on all the windows. Cuts out UV light so that it doesn't enter and get trapped in the vehicle. I noticed at least 30 degree difference with the windshield and 25% on all the windows (I had no tint). Also I imagine it'll keep the interior of my jeep from wearing due to the sun since I park outside all the time.

also get a stubby antenna like this

i'd also consider some rear storage solution to hold stuff like recovery straps, flashlight, first aid, whatever. The 4-doors have more options for that

u/Bwdzxc · 2 pointsr/CarAV

Like I said it's just color matching! On Crutchfield it says you need a [antenna adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-40-GM10-GM-Antenna-Adapter/dp/B0002BEQN4) but I personally am not 100% if you will need one. Then [here] (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-3300-95-04-Isuzu-Hombre/dp/B00029X1M8) is the dash kit. You will might have to use some of the factory pieces to install.

u/justinr666 · 1 pointr/FordFocus

First, no that wiring will not work for the 2008-11 Focus. you will need this one. Also as the other person stated you will need that dash kit, even if you only have a single DIN unit, you need that piece. Get yourself an antenna adapter as well here and yes it says Chysler, but it's the one for our car.
