=) we love to help fellow kitty owners!

I have found that if you play with your kittys paws while they are very sleepy or asleep you'll have a much easier time clipping their nails as they get older. Of course, I always recommend nail grinding over clipping because its smoother, lasts longer and it tickles vs pinches however, shes a baby and that will take some training!

get lots of toys! and play with her often. remember, just like your puppies need walk and play time, she does too! you can even train a cat to talk on a leash so you can take her with you on your walks with the dogs.

i have found my cat likes moving water and will absolutely NOT drink water from a bowl or anything thats sitting still. I use this fountain instead. Makes for happy kitty. hydration is very important!

as others have said, scratching posts are important. don't forget your flea, tick, and heartworm medications. Also, kitties should be brushed. My cat is scared of brushes so I use this which he adores and gets very excited when he sees it.

dogs like to eat cat poop for whatever unexplainable reason. please do yourself a favor and invest in a closed litter box sorta like this. its worth it!!

You're 100% correct. I'm a total stalker on here. There's no way for me to figure out who this person I stalked a while back is without saying his full name & I don't know if I should do that... but I saved his wish list because he had this on it and I found it quite hilarious.

Since I can't reddit stalk him, I have gathered that from his wish list he has EXCELLENT taste in music, including Madvillain (ON VINYL), Band of Horses, and Incubus. I hope this guy is active on here, because I want to talk to him more. He seems pretty amazeballs.

If you choose us, then I can send you the link to his WL. :)

Try this guy.

I know it's a bit spendy, but it is perfect! My cat is super smart, wants to get into everything, is a huge mischief maker, and she can't get into this one! I have it go off at 5am (so she doesn't wake me up) and at 1pm (while I'm at work, so she doesn't go hungry). You can program it to do a feeding up to 3 times a day, and it's pretty easy to set up.

My cat will throw up if she eats more than like 2-3 Tbs of dry food at a time, and this thing has a setting where it puts about that much out (you can have it dispense more than that, though). It also make a slight whirring sound when it lets out food, so my cat can hear it and know when food is ready.

Just make sure that your dry food is large enough. The feeder uses an auger, and if your food is too small, too much will come through when it's released. I use Evo, and it fits just fine. But, Fromm is too small. I haven't tried other brands in it.

Moved across state successfully w my massive DIY collection. My insight...

XL plastic art/craft supply storage containers with adjustable sectioning are your answer. Make sure you get the deep kind. Heres what I used

It was literally a godsend for storage/keeping everything organized. Worked for my packaging & container collection, tools, Minimixers, old products I created, beakers etc. IME there wasn't anything I had in my DIY hobby that was too big to fit. Stacks nicely, maximizes space in car.

I purchased 4 of them when the aqua colored one was $13 (but I see $ went up).

For my active ingredients (my babies) I took extra protection. Old prescription bottles house 1-2oz ingred vials to keep them protected from sunlight. Also have used amber color ziploc bags (used for photo film, sold on Amazon) for larger vials. Then I kept them all inside an XL airtight re-sealable storage container (the ones meant for food). Mine's meant for dogfood so it was way huge enough to fit everything. $10 for 25lb one.

My actives that required refridgeration were tricky. I eventually ended up triple-gallon-ziploc-bagging them wrapped with ice. And then got one of those Hot-Cool temp preserving bags they sell at grocery stores. 8 hours later & ice hadn't even melted.

Assuming you don't own a $1000+ overhead mixer and lab furniture, I'd say all your bases are covered. I definitely ditched extra things that I routinely replace (like my pipettes, old actives I didn't care about, labels).

Being a college student myself, I understand the need to be frugal. If you're going to be in a car, any old box or plastic storage totes you have would surely suffice. Only thing I'd say is a necessity is watching your active ingredients. Spend $ to keep them secure, otherwise you'll end up paying more $$ to replace them.

Like a lot of people are saying, timed meals worked wonders. However I had the same problem because my partner and I work odd hours (so we couldn't regularly put down the meals ourselves).

There are some really cool automatic feeders that use chips to keep the cats out of the food. The one I chose wireless whiskers. It's pricey but I liked some of the features that this one had (one bowl for multiple cats, auto-diet, and a large gravity feeder). I've had mine for over a year and it's been working great to keep my chubster from gaining weight.

There was another one that was pretty decent looking as well called the wonderfeeder. If you got two you could be sure to monitor each kitty's diet.

Hope that those help you!

u/193699 · 1 pointr/Pets

I bought this Arf Feeder from Amazon and it's worked perfectly. I do the same and read the negative reviews and it made me apprehensive to shell out 90 bucks, but it honestly works so well for us.

It allows you to set up to 4 feeding times, and you can record your own alarm to call over your dog. I didn't really like the plastic feeding area, so we bought a small metal pan that fits in the plastic tray and allows for easy cleaning too. Our cat loves it, I'm sure there are cheaper options too that work really well but I personally liked the look of this one and it seemed like there were better reviews than others.

Hope this helps!

Some cats don't like a water bowl near their food bowl, so you could try moving the water dish elsewhere. I have a cat that will simply refuse to drink out of a still water bowl (and doesn't care for wet food), but loves to drink out of the faucet when I turn it on, so now our two cats share this fountain: Drinkwell Avalon (70 oz)

There are various sizes, but we've had ours for a couple months now and we're quite happy with it. The pump is quiet and it's easy to clean. Probably the biggest issue is just the ongoing purchasing of filters, but I've just got them on a subscription from Amazon.

Lastly, get with your vet as a precaution so you can make sure there's not an underlying issue. Keep us updated (with pictures :) )!

u/BuryMeInSmoke · 7 pointsr/Greyhounds

Not a foster but we've got two greys (both been through foster homes), one we've had for two years, the other for one year.

They do take some time to really settle in. For both of ours they were pretty relaxed from the get go but after around 3 months we saw a really big change in them. They'll start getting a little cheeky and trying to push the limits so just make sure you're firm with them during this period. But it's also the time they'll start being more affectionate and relaxed enough to roach.

Four days is still really new, I wouldn't worry about it yet!

BTW, our hounds will drink from the toilet too, I think it's the 'fresh' water that attracts them. We've got one of those recirculating water bowls (this one). They'll use this over the toilet bowl any time but will go back to the toilet if the recirculating bowl empties - even when there's fresh water in a regular bowl they could drink out of.

^some pics of my set up so you can see how I increased the capacity.

Basically just added a tube between two points and as the fountain lowers in levels so does the tub.

Bonus pic of buns at end

*Tips

Needs to have a an enclosure so buns cant chew wires

Sand around the drilled openings so the glue sticks better

Use silicone glue as it is water proof and food safe

Use rubber grommets on the openings makes for a better seal

Use a bigger tube then I did because it take forever for the water to redistribute

I have valves on mine so I can disconnect the system so the parts can be washed.

Put the powerstrip(if used) on top of the water container so if you have a leak you dont electrocute yourself, your buns, or your house

Make sure you have the right parts before you start. (Bought a drill bit that doesnt work with my drill, and couldn't find grommets the size I needed for the size of the hole I drilled, I made it work though)

Test for leaks before you fill with water (put the tube under duress or itll pull out as your filling with water)

Make sure you know how to use the tools properly so you dont hurt yourself

Have fun haha

  1. Generally it is recommended to wait until they are 12 months old to start any sort of more serious training (jogging, agility, pack hiking) because their growth plates close at around 12 months so there is much less chance of damaging their hip and elbow joints after that age. If your Samoyed is much larger than average I would wait a bit longer (maybe up to 18 months) because the larger they are the longer their plates will take to close.

  2. Samoyeds have great running endurance, they were built for it! The only thing to watch out for is the temperature, my dogs can go for miles and miles when it's cold out but tire out quicker when the temp is 70+.

  3. I don't do jogging with my guys, we do pack hiking and we've hiked for 8+ miles before with them carrying weight. We stop for water about every 40 mins but I taught them what the word "drink" means so I can usually just ask them if they want it and they approach me and stop when they do and keep going when they don't :P

  4. Yes, I do feed them larger portions when we go for regular pack hikes. I always monitor their weight pretty closely and try to keep them as close as possible to their ideal weight.

  • Tough dog booties are great for rocky terrains or very cold/icy days to protect their feet.

  • This is something many of us in the Samoyed community use for hiking but perhaps it will be helpful for jogging as well. A hands free lead.

  • Portable dog water bowl you can clip to your pack or clothes.

Miracle Nipple Mini 2 pack For Pets and Wildlife with Syringe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SQIHIJO/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_gYD7CbFQNJRB0

Most useful thing I have purchased makes bottle feeding so much easier. A small blender bottle will help mix formula to a smoother consistency which also helps. Don’t be afraid to go to an animal shelter or vet to ask for help they love baby animals and will definitely help you get started as well.

u/DirtyPandaTummy · 1 pointr/Rabbits

Powdered goats milk is what I use to help supplement. We use the miracle nipple you can buy it from Amazon heres a link https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00SQIHIJO/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1550085663&sr=8-3&keywords=miracle+nipplemini&dpPl=1&dpID=31eL0iS4BSL&ref=plSrch
Are you offering other food such as alfalfa or hay? Our babies show interest around 7 to 10 days.
Also make sure they have access to water, if you use bottles make sure its low enough for them to reach if you use a bowl get something shallow enough they can easily drink and escape if they dunk their face.
What type of bedding do you use? Could they be injesting it?

Hope you and your babies have success!

u/NeedingVsGetting · 1 pointr/catcare

Some cats are CRAZY food-driven. I've got 4 cats, and 2-3 of them (depending on their mood at the time) are food-mad. And all but one definitely prefer their super expensive prescription dry food over wet food.

To make it less of a food-panic and introduce play, our vet recommended these to stop the scarfing. They work beautifully!!

That, and slo-bowls

And Puzzle Bowls

Keeps them all from scarfing it down so they eat slower, don't "scarf & barf", and it reduces desperation at the next meal time.

Good luck!

u/praisekitty · 3 pointsr/youseeingthisshit

This is the one I bought for my pets and it works wonders. It's completely silent, easy to clean and fill, cheap, and all my cats and dog drink from it. Give it a shot, Amazon does free returns if they don't like it.

NOT ALL CATS LIKE TO BE HELD, AND THAT IS OKAY. It's COMPLETELY natural, and arguably enjoying being held is more of an adaptation than an expectation.

I raised my own cat from birth--he's six now--and he doesn't like being held, either. So I respect that and don't pick him up unless I have to, for example to bring him to the vet.

By continuously picking him up you are ignoring his boundaries and making him feel insecure and powerless.

As far as the diabetes suspicion, CatCentric has a Facebook group which should be able to help you with nutrition information. Fair warning, they're very pushy with "raw is right, kibble is wrong", but there are some diabetic cat caretakers in there and it should be a good source of information.

Some financial resources:

Here is a list of organizations which help with vet bills

Here's a Tumblr post on dealing with emergency vet bills full of resources

My cat has also gone through binge-/speed-eating, since I got this slow feeder dish it hasn't been a problem. There are other options out there, but I recommend avoiding plastic for feeding/water dishes as plastic is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and difficult to truly clean-clean.

As far as proper diet (and this is NOT from a diabetic perspective--I don't know about diabetic cats so this is general advice), dry only is Not Good. Cats have a low thirst drive and are "designed" to gain most of their moisture from their prey, being descended from desert-dwelling animals. Cats on dry only diets are in a state of chronic mild dehydration. Since you're struggling financially, don't feel bad buying cheap wet food like Friskies, 9 Lives or Fancy Feast, because it's still better than no wet food at all. I'd avoid Friskies dry as it can be addictive (as you witnessed) and put your cat off of more nutritious food.

Here is a long, but superb source of information on feline nutrition.

u/flibbertygiblet · 2 pointsr/Pets

We currently have this Cat It one and ours really like it, so do we. It's not so much a fountain, more like a bubbler? There's no stream of water, but it is constantly moving. Has filters, the whole bit. Our 5 cats drink a ton, so we really like that it holds more than most fountains, and it's super easy to clean.

We used to have this frog one and, while cute, it was a bitch. The pump was finicky(it went into super mode and poured out its entire contents on the table we had it in more than once), it was ridiculously hard to clean(some parts were even impossible to get to), and finding replacement filters was like searching for the holy grail.

u/SirEDCaLot · 2 pointsr/homeautomation

I'd throw one more into the mix: The Super Feeder.

This is one of the 'dumbest' 'smart' pet feeders on the market, and that's a GOOD thing. All it does is dispense a preset (adjustable) portion of food from the hopper each time power is applied. That means it's super easy to integrate with any HA system- just use a plug in switch module and plug the feeder into that and at feeding time have HA turn on the power for one minute. You don't need another app and the feeder doesn't need WiFi. You can link multiple feeders together (just have both modules turn on at the same time, or feed them both off the same power plug). Want to feed multiple portions (IE big breakfast and small dinner)? On for one minute, off for one minute, then on for one minute again.

u/letawookieewin7 · 5 pointsr/CatAdvice

It's going to get better, trust me. He is still adapting to a new environment and it has still only been a short while. He is probably a bit stressed. You could try some cat calming spray or even the calming collar (one of my cats wears this one). In terms of the feeding, I'd recommend an automatic feeder that dispenses a certain amount during certain times of the day (this is the one I have). Please don't cry. :)

u/kittyleaf · 74 pointsr/TropicalWeather

If you plan on leaving, please bring your pets with you. They would be terrified and could possibly pass away. We are able to make snap decisions like hiding in a closet, bathroom, basement, etc. They are not. It is dangerous to leave them alone, even if you think your cat can take care of herself for a few days in a well-built home with food, water, and a litterbox.

Pet travel list

  • Food
  • Clean water
  • Bowl for food and water. There are collapsible bowls that do not take up much space
  • Collar if they have one
  • A leash and harness
  • Medication
  • Treats
  • For cats: a portable litterbox
  • Dogs: weewee pads if necessary
  • For cats: a bag of litter
  • For cats and small dogs: ensure that your carrier is in good shape as they can become stressed and attempt to break out.
  • Their bed so they can be comfortable wherever you end up sleeping until you return home.
  • Something with a familiar smell to comfort them
  • Toys
  • Baby wipes in case they need a quick grooming
  • Paper towels
  • Disinfectant spray for cleaning any waste

Check out Airbnb if you are still having difficulty finding a hotel. Many are offering rooms for free, and are willing to be lenient towards pet policy. Some local animal shelters and veterinarians are offering free microchipping. I am not in Florida, unfortunately, so I am unsure who is offering it. Be sure to check and ask around on Facebook or tune in to the local news. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Chronic vomiting in cats is not normal! It drives me insane when I hear that vets have told owners that nothing is wrong with their cat that pukes every day. You see any wild cats doing that, vet? Cats are essentially physiologically unchanged from their wild ancestors - they should not be puking out their guts.

Before we look into things - wet food should be a cat's only source of food. http://catinfo.org/ for all the reasons never to feed kibble again. No joke, no more kibble, not even "special magical prescription kibble the vet insists you have to buy". The reason - cats are descended from desert critters who have a low thirst drive. They are designed to get their "moisture needs" from their prey - namely, meat. Kibble is a completely unnatural food for them (and it doesn't "clean their teeth" like some people will tell you!) When we feed them dry food, we literally force our cats into a state of constant dehydration. My cat ate kibble for the first 14 years of her life - I didn't know any better then. Then she was diagnosed with kidney failure - she had lost over 75% of her kidney function and was not expected to live another 6 months. I switched her to an all-canned diet immediately and eventually to a fully-raw diet, and she is still happy and healthy four years later at age 18! She loves her raw food and has the appetite and energy of a cat a third her age.

So I am a huge proponent of canned food diets for cats. ESPECIALLY males - Dr. Pierson's site above goes into some of the horrible urinary tract problems male cats can develop when they are on kibble.

So - we have to start at the beginning to help your little guy. When does he vomit? Does he vomit IMMEDIATELY after eating, or some time later? Does he puke white foam, green foam, or partially-digested food? Have you offered him "cat grass"?

http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=2809 - helps you determine whether your cat is vomiting vs. regurgitating.

This site has a chart that may help: http://www.vin.com/apputil/content/defaultadv1.aspx?meta=Generic&pId=11343&id=5124222

And this is an excellent paper/info packet on feline vomiting except for their recommendations on completely inappropriate kibble diets:

http://www.cliniciansbrief.com/sites/default/files/attachments/Vomiting%20Cat%20Cases.pdf

Basically what we're getting at is, your cat's problem could be as simple as excess stomach acid. You can literally give a cat Pepcid - in a much smaller dose - for the same reasons a human would be using Pepcid. I'm going to link you to Tanya's CRF site, which is a site for kitties with chronic kidney failure (like mine), but the medication/vomiting info might still be helpful:

http://www.felinecrf.org/nausea_vomiting_stomach_acid.htm#acid_blockers

I wouldn't necessarily jump into medicating your little guy with Pepcid off the bat - though it probably won't hurt him - without discussing it with a vet first.

Some of the treatments I'd start out with -

-Raise his food dish. Either get an elevated food dish such as https://www.amazon.com/Necoichi-Raised-Cat-Food-Bowl/dp/B00KAV98ES/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1480926103&sr=8-2&keywords=elevated+cat+food+bowl or https://www.amazon.com/Bowl-Food-Water-Elevated-Stand/dp/B01K5MH5VY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1480926092&sr=8-3&keywords=elevated+cat+food+dish - this can help a TREMENDOUS amount.

-Feed him small portions more often (schedule permitting). For example, if you usually put the whole can of cat food in his dish at once, put only 1/4 of the can. Let him eat it all and wait 10 minutes. See if he vomits. If he doesn't, you can offer another 1/4 of the cat. Space out the meal if you can, or feed him small portions throughout the day. He'll need some adjustment time as he will feel as though he is "starving to death" in the meantime, but this can help if he's overeating or eating too fast and vomiting because of that.

-As someone else mentioned, try a truly "limited ingredient" canned food such as Natural Balance, or try freeze-dried raw food or frozen raw. My cat is on a fully-raw diet, and although it IS expensive, it is literally a miracle. I have a friend in Arizona whose cat was a chronic puker, plus had chronic diarrhea, before switching to a raw diet.

I know I tossed a lot of info at you at once - my apologies! But your kitty's case definitely isn't hopeless and you shouldn't have to be resigned to cleaning up vomit for the rest of his life.

u/ReubenTuesday · 1 pointr/kitties

If you're going to be out for long stretches of time every day, I would suggest not getting a kitten and instead looking for an older cat who is house trained and accustomed to being alone during the day.

As far as vacation is concerned your best bet is to find a friend/relative who will be willing to drop by your house once a day to put down food/clean litter/play with the kitty for a bit. If you are only heading off for a long weekend these things can easily be taken care of by using pet fountains, automated feeders, heck you can even get self cleaning litter trays. Any longer than that though and it's best to get someone to come round and take care of these things.

One more thing, whilst feeding you cat and providing litter may be reasonably cheap, vets bills can be INSANE. I would definitely recommend getting pet insurance.

u/hollystar311 · 9 pointsr/DogCare

Are people really acting like OP is a terrible owner for not wanting to feed the dog on the carpet? There are so many things that make someone a bad pet owner but this just isn't one of them. It's completely understandable to avoid making a mess where it's hard to clean. I don't let my dog eat on the carpet, but that doesn't mean I lose my mind if he tracks mud in or has an accident. Can we try to be a little more understanding, please?

The only thing I know of that could help if the dogs have access to food all the time is a bowl like this that only opens when a pet wearing the tag goes to it. I think someone mentioned it before, but I thought a link might help. I hope you're able to find a good solution!

u/thirstypretzels27 · 1 pointr/SiberianCats

I too would stay away from the raw diet. Cats (especially kittens!) have very specific nutritional/vitamin needs that are better provided through cat food.

We free feed our kitten dry food and then give him a bit of wet food 2-3x a day. In terms of hydration we have a cat fountain that our kitty loves and he seems to stay well hydrated! This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Fountain-Cat-Water-Dispenser/dp/B079DL32QY/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?adgrpid=64576521348&gclid=Cj0KCQjw84XtBRDWARIsAAU1aM0HcZTmkAuU8eKysHDuiUiHYZSoCruZ9hs1AH6b1YE79CzA6m22eHcaAn-MEALw_wcB&hvadid=274872094982&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9029968&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10434210853613776326&hvtargid=aud-647006051489%3Akwd-147515345&hydadcr=12186_10197801&keywords=cat+water+fountain&qid=1570914412&sr=8-15

I've found he drinks more with the little bubbler attachment than with the flower attachment though. Also we live in a small apartment and keep the water next to his food and it hasn't appeared to impede his drinking.

u/Grassy_Fart · 1 pointr/RATS

I left my 4 boys alone for 3 nights recently. Aside from hiring a stranger, I have no one to look out for them while I'm gone. They're not super tame yet and are quite a handful, so I trusted in leaving them alone the most. I cleaned the cage right before leaving, left them a mountain of food in a big bowl, put in new toys, hammocks and hideouts, hid treats in the cage, hid well packaged packets of food in hard to reach places, threw in a couple of walnuts and hazelnuts in shell, gave them a deer antler to chew on. I also left them with 5 water bottles (including one for parrots) in case one of them leaks or malfunctions. Also, I have a huge cage (good for 17 rats according to rat cage calculator), so they had plenty of space for play and exercise. They are all young and very healthy, get along great, so I wasn't too worried. They were all more than fine when I returned.

Your rats will be fine too, though I would recommend an additional super reliable water bottle/water dispenser. I got my boys this cool fountain for next time I have to leave them alone.

Okay, I think your cat might be experiencing dehydration, which might account for the highly concentrated ammonia smell. Try switching to wet food. Don't do it cold turkey - start with 50% Iams ProActive Health as normal, and 50% wet food. Over 2-3 weeks, gradually reduce the dry food content to none.

Keep him on a wet food diet for at least 6-8 weeks and see if the smell gets any better. It will be normal for him to have soft poop for a couple of weeks while his system adjusts to the new food.

I would also recommend investing a few bucks in a cat drinking fountain to encourage him to drink more water. Here is a cheap one with good reviews on amazon.

A Hurom masticating juicer I bought at auction for $15. Makes awesome juice. It's an older model, but I figured I would keep it awhile and see if I used it enough to make buying a newer one worthwhile since they're like $400.

They BARELY hold a 50# bag of grain but they do. One for Maris Otter the other for standard 2 row. Its nice being able to wheel them around my garage to keep them out of the way but easy accessible when i need.

That said i bought them on woot for $22 each and they came with a smaller container as well.

Sure thing! The one I got: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XBRP7J1/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 FYI to make a voice recording to be played at mealtimes, or to manually trigger a meal portion outside of mealtimes, make sure the display is lit and then hit the buttons as directed in the instructions. (I found the instructions unclear on this point.) I also purchased three D batteries for each feeder as a backup in case power ever goes out. While it doesn't have other bells and whistles like wifi connectivity for remote management, tbh that is what made it only more perfect for me, as wifi in my house is spotty. Does exactly what I needed, nothing more and nothing less. Hope this helps!

I've had cats that have woken me up daily at 4am with incessant meowing for food. So she has this automatic feeder so she never learned to expect me to feed her. It makes me feel kind of weird to say that, but it's truly amazing. So when she wakes me up, it's just because she wants to play. Fortunately she doesn't get crazy!

This one Cat Mate C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BLVFSK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_tRHpyb4ESGEZP is also a great alternative for cats that are too smart for their own good!

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Pets

I've never had set meal times for my cats. I leave a bowl of dry cat meal (vet approved) for them and they both eat when they're hungry. Neither of them stuff themselves, just graze throughout the day, and a bowl usually takes 3-4 days to be cleared. I also have a cat water fountain which they both love, I highly recommend getting one. Before I had it I would find them sticking their heads down the toilet or trying to get water from a dripping tap, they would hardly ever drink from a still bowl of water. And it case anyone is wondering, they are both a healthy weight, spend time outdoors, and have had regular health checks at the vets.

u/justacpa · 1 pointr/funny

I had an obese cat (21 lbs) and bought this to control food. Attached to a timer I have it dispense food 5 times a day. The amount of food can be customized as well as the times and # of times. Cat cannot break into it. It also has an extra attachment you can buy that will increase capacity. I have it and fill it once very month or so.

He now weighs 14 lbs.

Try putting water down for her in various parts of the house, and also try containers of different shapes and different materials--stainless, ceramic, glass, etc. You can also try raising a bowl to toilet height. My current dog likes this fountain, which doesn't hold a lot of water but works OK. He also likes to drink water from big, heavy glass beer mugs.

I'm a big fan of this: IRIS Airtight Food Storage Container https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00186O0MO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_y4JYBbF9DG221

There are other brands with similar styles that work, too. In general I like the top lid and to size up a bit because then I'm able to fit the entire bag in the container to keep it fresh and then I don't need to clean the container nearly as much.

You can fit a 40lb bag in the 35lb one, but it's pretty tight, and I often have to remove 1/8 of the bag and put it in another container, or I can't close the bin. Otherwise, my dogs haven't managed to open it yet, as long as you're careful when you close it (and I put the opening against the wall). And it was cheap (I got two).

u/noawesomenameneeded · 4 pointsr/dogs

Dogs need follow a routine, and that includes feeding at regular internals with lots of exercise. With most lab you can't just leave a bunch of food out for them. They will end up overweight like your boyfriends dog.

If they're too lazy feed the dog themselves then an automatic feeder is what I would suggest doing. They're not that expensive but will help the dog follow some sort of diet. (http://www.amazon.com/Automatic-Electronic-Programmable-Portion-Control/dp/B004SBSNB0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334160504&sr=8-1)

Also the food plays a big part in that too. A lot of the bulk dog food from the grocery store is like McDonald's for dogs.

I have the 47qt ones, they'll hold 50lb bags of grain no problem and fill to the top, but the 55lbs bags are a trick. You can sorta maybe coax them to fit. When I open a new 55lb bag I'm brewing with it and then save the rest.

u/GoogieDow · 179 pointsr/AnimalsBeingJerks

My cat was obsessed with playing in her water until I got her a water fountain and it solved the problem. Turns out the "pawing" wasn't so much for fun as it was to "stir" the water to make it more appetizing. Would highly recommend!

I have this one

u/squidboots · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

Phew! Glad that's all it is.

If she has to go on a diet with dry food (kitty crackers as we call 'em around my house) we have been using this interactive feeder in our house for the past few months with great success. Crackers go in every morning, and they have to fish 'em out with their paws and drag them onto the floor to eat. It slows them down and makes sure they aren't eating out of boredom. Both of our pudgy cats have been losing weight with it - one is back to normal weight, and the other (who has a little more to lose) is still losing.

u/nesfor · 2 pointsr/CatAdvice

Thank you for your advice! She is normally on a mix of wet and dry Urinary S0 (and we always mix the wet food into more of a soup), but we can definitely give her more wet. I hadn’t thought of that.

I don’t have a pic of my sink at the moment, but the water fountains I have are the Pioneer swan fountain and the Catit flower fountain.

u/pitofanavocado · 2 pointsr/cats

I recommend this fountain from Amazon:

Pioneer Drinking Fountain
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GJMSBXZ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_awdb_CrWVDbZGQ6E92

Very easy to clean, and replacement filters are affordably priced. My cats like to option to drink from the spout or the bowl.

I have also tried both Catit Fountains (Flower and Metal), and would recommend the Flower out of those two options, but it is a pain to clean and the replacement filters are more expensive than the Pioneer fountain.

u/FeelinLikeACloud420 · 1 pointr/cats

I believe it depends on the cat. Some cats apparently develop some kind of acne or rash on their chin when eating and/or drinking from plastic bowls. If that's not the case for your cats then it should be fine, probably better than them not drinking enough water.
I wouldn't get the cheapest available one however because a known brand should mean that whatever plastic they say they use is the one they truly use. You may also be able to find some cheaper ceramic ones, and it is usually better than plastic, but I've only seen some over US$50

Edit: You may also want to look for stainless steel or even glass ones. For example I found a stainless steel one for US$50: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008HRJS24/
Or this one for about US$30: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016DQU5NQ/

Overall it seems that the cheaper they are the more design flaws or quality flaws there are so if you're unsure if your cats would use a fountain you could always try a cheap plastic one and later invest in a good quality stainless steel or ceramic one.

You'll definitely need to keep the temp high enough and use bone-dry filament to keep that level of detail.

Do you know about baking the moisture out and storing with dessicant?

Before storage, bake at 45-50C(~110-120F) for 2 hours for PLA. Do not exceed 55C (~135F). Oven off but oven light on for a few hours may be enough.

actually, I have been planning on basic cabinets designed around the dimensions of my kettle and fermenters with hooks and shelves for all of the smaller accessories and accouterments.

My mill and my malt container are both on wheels, so I have been planning on leaving an open area without cabinets to keep those. I actually cover the mill with a canvas tarp when I am not using it to keep sawdust off of it.

I don't really produce too much dust; I do most of my work with hand tools, and when I am using the band saw or the table saw I hook up my shop vac to try and pull as much dust out of the air as I can. The dustiest activity I do is sanding, even when I am using my shop vac attached to the sander. I am in the process of building a downdraft table to try and minimize airborne dust from sanding, but again time is my main constraint these days.

  • If your LHBS has trouble stocking the ingredients you want be them extract, grain or anything else, there are many online retailers that always have fresh product in stock. Ordering crushed grain is almost always an option, but so is buying bulk sacks of grain and milling them yourself (although this will require you to purchase a mill)

  • Grain freshness all depends on how it is stored. I purchase 55lb sacks of all my base malts and store them in air-tight dog food containers. I've used year old base malts with no noticeable impact on the beer.

  • Not an expert on BIAB but from what I understand sparging is not required. It may slightly decrease your efficiency so you may want to add a little extra grain on your first few brews until you nail down all of your new system's numbers.

You need one of these. They work great. It portions their food automatically and they no longer bug the shit out of you every morning for food. It's a little tricky to set up, but once you get it set up all you have to do is dump food in it once a month or so. Oh and maybe tape the lid on if you have a smart cat that knows how to open things. That cat is fat, unhealthy, and needs to be on a diet.

u/alf163 · 1 pointr/pics

My boyfriend's cat use to do this so we go him one of these. He no longer drinks from the toilet.

Oh, sure! It's one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Pet-Tiger-Diner-Ceramic/dp/B007DOS9C2/ref=pd_sbs_petsupplies_1

The one I bought is plastic, though, and my cat is strong enough and smart enough that sometimes he doesn't want to wait and sticks an arm in the hole, lifts, and dumps the whole thing over. I think the ceramic one is heavier and less prone to that sort of behavior. They also make one with a lip on the base so there is less mess, but I corral my cat's mess by keeping the bowl inside an old cookie sheet so the kibble doesn't get everywhere.

u/PlNKERTON · 53 pointsr/instant_regret

But won't your cat get fat? If I gave my cat one of these she would eat 5 times a day, then finding any kind of cloth/carpet to throw up on.

Do they make machines that auto-drop food once a day? Maybe twice a day? I'd set it to drop food 10 minutes before I wake up, and 10 minutes before I get home from work.

Edit: Found one but it's $90...

u/yougotpurdyhair · 1 pointr/Pets

I switched to this food bowl after my cat kept scarfing & puking his food. He has to fish out each piece of kibble with his paw so he can't inhale the entire bowl at once.

u/MilkyWhiteMistress · 5 pointsr/CatAdvice

I had a similar issue with my boy. I tried the ball in the bowl, I tried a slow feed bowl, I tried wet food, I tried an automatic feeder. They have to stick their paws in the holes and can only get out a few pieces at a time. It's seriously been amazing. He rarely ever throws up now from eating too fast. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth not having to clean up puke constantly.

u/morganlafaye · 5 pointsr/Pets

I just heard about this, which is really a shame because my cat became fat after I moved in with a girl who had two cats, who would steal her food all the time. So I started free-feeding her and boom, fat cat. I would have loved to have gotten this while I was in that situation, before I started free-feeding her (she's on a diet now).

Essentially it's a collar that unlocks their sealed food container. So your cats could have different ones (or just the slow eater), that way her food stays hers and the other cat can't get at it!

u/allyouneedarecats · 1 pointr/cats

Funny that this comes out on the day that I've been seriously researching cat fountains! (Seriously, I've spent maybe three hours on this the past two days...)

I've been looking at this one on Amazon, because it has the most reviews and isn't as large as the Catit. I'm a big fan of the removable-flower-model, though, which is probably why this other one has made my list, too. I am mostly worried about the reviews -- how much should I trust them?

My biggest worry though is that I'll buy a $30 cat fountain and have it burn out and have to replace it yearly, or I'll buy an $80 cat fountain and meet the same thing. My parents' cats have a fountain, but it's just too large and gets too dirty for me to want that style.
