To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where computer memory card accessories are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
Then I'd recommend a Sony PSP. Preferably the 3000 or Go models (though a 2000 works fine, it just has less vibrant colors; avoid the 1000 and the European-only E1000 Street since they have less hardware capabilities). Just hack the PSP with ProCFW using this guide (you'll need a valid memory card) and then it can run a bunch of different emulators; it does GB/GBC/GBA especially well. You can get the emulators I use here, and put them in your memory card at
?:\PSP\GAME
(where?
is your PSP's drive letter after connecting it to your computer with a miniUSB cable like the old flip phones, not microUSB or USB type C like a smartphone). Homer's RIN is for GB/GBC games and has cleaner scaling than anything else, but has compatibility probs with a few games. EmuMaster (which plays GB/GBC and also Sega GameGear/MasterSystem) will handle some of the ones that RIN can't, but has ugly bilinear scaling. TempGBA is just the best GBA emulator you can get for the system and nothing else compares (it'll even play the Golden Sun games, with very slight frameskip in the overworld). You'll have to find/dump your own roms, though. Also, you can get a microSD to MS Pro Duo adapter for cheap instead of paying up the arse for an official memory card (Warning: Doesn't work with the Go since it takes a Memory Stick Micro (M2) instead). Make sure your microSD cards aren't too high of a capacity, though; a PSP only officially supports up to 32GB total (that is, 2x16GB in the adapter I linked; these should work perfectly), and my friend got his working with 2x32GB Class-10 SanDisk cards, but I hear certain brands won't work at that capacity and we haven't found anything above those 2x32GB cards that work at all (they are seen as 'damaged' and unable to be formatted in the PSP). Not that you'll need that much space for GB/GBC/GBA games anyway... :P
On the other hand, most cheap smartphones nowadays can run the My Boy! and My OldBoy! emulators just fine, even for 'problem' games like Golden Sun, so getting a cheap tracfone and a decent bluetooth controller might be an even better idea than going for an aging PSP, and still cheaper than most of those clone consoles. Of course, that comes with Android's audio latency problems, and you won't be able to use save states in those emulators unless you get the paid versions (which are $4.99 and $3.99, respectively) but I think it'd still be better than getting any of the clone systems you mention, especially since Android emulators are so easily updated. Note that there are also other free GB/GBC/GBA emulators for Android, I just know from personal experience that the MyBoy ones work well...
This Kingston has treated me well for years, it's pretty old but it's a sturdier revision of an even older and more plastic-y one that had some useless sliding caps, it supported my UHS-II cards just fine:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KX4TORI/
There's some curious reviews seemingly suggesting there was a silent rev or something, I wouldn't know since I bought it forever ago. I think my brother in law bought one like two years ago so I could ask him how it's working but he has an A7R II so might not even have UHS-II cards...
I recently bought this Sony since I wanted another one to leave in my bag w/a Surface Go I also recently got, seemed like the next best thing if a little pricier. I figured I'd try a different one just to see if it works any better, tho my cards top out at 150MB/s so it might be a wash. Arrived yesterday, haven't had time to try it.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071FJRXGX/
There's a bunch of readers on Amazon that try to coyly claim UHS-II support, but only because the cards are backwards compatible and when you dig into the reviews or questions they're just UHS-I readers... Like the built in reader on the USB-C hub I bought last year with Ethernet, HDMI, and USB-PD pass thru.🤦🏽♂️
Oh well, everything about it seems to work great and it does have a micro SD reader that works fine w/my GX850's micro SD card; but yeah pinning down actual UHS-II support can take a little reading.
A bit of indirect advice:
Size: Memory Stick cards (Pro Duo specifically) come in 4, 8, 16, and 32GB variants, so you'll most likely be looking for a 32GB card.
Speed: There are a variety of speeds out there, depending on the manufacturer, but as the PSP can't read faster than about 10MB/s anyway, you don't need to worry about high-end MS cards that are really designed for digital cameras and computers.
Brands: I would recommend going with a Sony or SanDisk card [1]. However, as with a lot of memory media these days you need to be extremely careful of who you buy from. Flash memory is one of the most commonly counterfeited products on the market and it's very easy for legitimate companies to inadvertently stock counterfeit cards. So whatever card you decide to buy, make sure you test it and see that it performs at the approximate speed indicated and that you have the full amount of space as described on the packaging.
Alternatives to expensive cards: There are also micro-SD to Memory Stick Pro Duo adapters (though they may not be reliable using two cards in tandem instead of one). I've never tried it out on a PSP, but supposedly they work and buying two cheaper micro-SD cards and an adapter might be cheaper and easier to replace in the event that something happens (because ultimately all of these small electronics aren't going to be perfectly reliable).
[1] Sony has more stringent requirements about where they source their memory from, so Sony-branded memory should be above average. SanDisk makes their own memory so they can pick from the best price/performance of their own inventory without having to rely on a memory maker to supply them with reliable parts.
Yeah, they speak standard SATA/AHCI/NVMe but they use a custom connector type. It's how they lock you into using Apple storage only (thanks Apple!)
Edit: If anyone reading is interested in upgrading their MacBook with a larger non-Apple SSD I've had really good success with these adapters and a variety of NVMe drives. Basically everything you need is in this thread, there are some caveats w.r.t. system firmware updates with a non-Apple drive so read carefully. A quick shout out to the best low cost NVMe drive I've used too. Total cost to upgrade from a 120GB Apple SATA SSD in my SO's 2015 MBP to a 480GB NVMe drive was like $115 and the drive is something absurd like 8x faster.
LOVE this little hedgehog! AND CONGRATS! I just got mine a week ago and I'm the happiest person ever.

Can't wait to see pics of her! Got a name picked out?!
I would actually recommend buying the pen, or rather, buy the Surface Pro 4 pen to use with your Surface Pro 3. At least, if you have any desire or need to draw or highlight/make notes in reading materials, then get the pen.
The Arc Touch mouse is very nice in that it's quite small when flattened, and packed in a bag. I like it with my SP3 as an extremely portable little kit. No need to purchase the "Surface edition", the regular Arc Touch mouse is often available cheaper, and is essentially identical.
If you find yourself in need of a new type cover at some point, the Surface Pro 4 type cover is a nice little upgrade, and is sized perfectly/works perfectly.
Most sleeves sold for the Surface Pro 3/Surface Pro 4 do not fit well. Most are a little too long. I do find the sleeves by "Snugg" to be pretty nice. They aren't really padded, but will protect your tablet from scratches if you throw it into a larger bag.
A micro-SD card can expand your storage, as others suggest. Depending what other devices you use, you might also want a small USB card reader for full-sized SD cards. I use one with my camera. I've found this one to be reliable, and it looks nice enough next to the SP3.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KX4TORI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also found a second-hand SP3 dock via Amazon Marketplace. It's quite a nice device to have, if you need to be able to dock the tablet.
I don't use mine with a screen protector, so cannot recommend one. Enjoy your new device!
I also have a Define R4, and having a card reader was a must for me (I needed both SD and CF though). I know Newegg isn't very popular here nowadays, but my solution was to get a 3.5 inch Rosewill card reader and a 3.5 inch to 5.25 inch adapter. The adapter is plastic but is pretty sturdy, and I'm happy with the way it blends with the rest of the case (I'm not at home right now so I can't take a pic but I could tomorrow night). This card reader uses a 19-pin USB 3.0 connector, which you motherboard (the Asus H97-Plus) can accommodate.
The issue with this setup is that your motherboard (like mine) has only one USB 3.0 header, so you have the card reader (which also has a single USB 3.0 port itself) and front USB 3.0 ports of the R4 case competing for the header. My solution was to demote the front USB 3.0 ports of the case to USB 2.0 ports by using a Silverstone USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 Adapter and plugging that into a free USB 2.0 header (hopefully you have a free one of those)
I went looking for decent SD card readers recently as I wanted to speed up Raspberry Pi card flashing...
If all he wants is SD cards, I'd take a look at something like a Kingston MobileLite G4. Yes, this is not an internal card reader - but most internal card readers that exist are of rather low quality. For example, they aren't UHS-I/-II compatible to read faster cards. It's around $10.
If your father wants CF cards or MicroSD without hunting for an adapter, take a look at this Kingston Reader. It's around $18.
I haven't used these readers; I'm planning on snagging one in the near future, but hopefully someone else can pop in with experience with them. The Wirecutter really likes the all-in-one; meanwhile, Legit Reviews liked the MobileLite G4.
I'm suggesting these two because reviews seem to hold that they're fast, cheap, and at least a recognizable brand. I have no idea how fragile or reliable they are. That said, they're the way I would go.
Also, to echo some of the other comments on here: Get your Dad an SSD at least for the OS and some programs. It doesn't have to be big - 128GB is absolutely safe, 60 can be really crowded. You can snag a bunch of 120GB SATA SSDs for around $55-$60. Another option is an NVMe SSD, since your MSI motherboard supports it - see port 10 in the diagram. I've been happy with a MyDigitalSSD BP NVMe SSD - and 128GB of REALLY fast SSD for $70 is a steal. (As a guideline, SATA top out around 540Mb/s ideal, while NVMe are often 1500Mb/s or higher.)

CPU: i5 4460 is more than enough for your usage plus it carries itself great in games.
Motherboard: Decent motherboard with support for the aforementioned CPU out of the box.
RAM: 8GB of fast RAM at a great price
Storage: A 256GB SSD and a 1TB for your other storage needs
Graphics: Since you're not going to be playing heavy titles nor is the machine primarily gaming based you will find this graphics card more than adequate. While there was still budget for a faster graphics card, I've opted to not add one. This will play most titles - even recent ones - at 1080p/60fps at reasonable settings.
Case: Great look case, small. It does carry a $30 premium over the typical suggestions here, but it's gorgeous. Especially if you want to move it into the living room for those HTPC purposes. Since there was budget, I've opted to include this one - a good case is a great investment.
PSU Overkill to be sure, but at that price, it's a steal. You would save $10 if you got the 500W Corsair modular, but it is in all aspects worse.
Optical Some people still use this, so I've added one.
O/S Windows 8.1, as per your request.
Other The card reader you've requested. 300+ 4star reviews on amazon suggest it will do its job fine. Will match the black/white theme of the case.
I currently have the ultra fit flash drives as well......Was using a cruzer fit as test drive for custom patched games before installing but now have a concern as the cruzer fit is designed like the ultra fit in the way it is plastic and just tossed out my test cruzer fit due to plastic breaking. I like how small the ultra fit is so I wanting opinions on Micro SD cards as thinking of going this route - https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MobileMate-microSD-Card-Reader/dp/B07G5JV2B5/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Micro%2BSD%2BReader&qid=1566062221&s=electronics&sr=1-5&th=1 since it is metal compared to plastic.

Get one of these.
It works great on my i7, I get wonderful speeds transferring from SD cards and with my external harddrive connected as well. Don't listen to the one person complaining that it feels cheap. I ordered two, one for me and one for my boyfriend and the build quality is great.
I love it, really.
The most useful? That's quite a bit...
You see, I need a new blanket since the one I have is threadbare and about 15 years old now. I really need a USB card reader to help my laptop and desktop be friends. Then there's the [rock pick sheath]
(http://www.amazon.com/Estwing-Leather-Sheath-Rock-Hammer/dp/B00BNQR440/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2SL6EA96F5BI3&coliid=IRQWRN54XWBQG) so I don't ruin the hammer, the samples on a dig, the backpack I keep it in (the rock hammer is surprising sharp), or my person if the rock hammer punches into my back. Speaking of geological digs, a Brunton Transit is a necessity. Not only does it do the job of a regular compass, but it can be used to determine slope and dip. It's also over $500 fucking dollars, so forget I mentioned it.
I think the blanket would be the best. Also, my favorite color is dark green. 003c00 in hex.
That depends on how early you want to start. There are a lot of different components at play here, but each one is using the bare minimum of each.
Personally, I would start simple with building a base Home Assistant server.
Once you have your equipment, install Hass.IO using the Raspberry Pi 3 instructions.
Home Assistant does a great job of walking you through the steps. It is really easy, especially if starting with a fresh install.
From here, you now have Home Assistant running and you can play around with installing all of the various components. I highly recommend taking some time to learn the basic mechanics of adding equipment.
From there, I have done a ton of trial and error in JavaScript and HTML using W3Schools. My suggestion: come up with what you want to do, start small, and build from it.
In my case, I wanted two separate websites on one screen. DAKBoard on the top, and my Home Assistant front end on the bottom. This told me iframe, so I started here, which allowed me to do live trial and error. Eventually, I built myself up to using Repl.it for trial and error, but that's jumping ahead.
Once I got my iframes working out, I actually used Dakboard's instruction on how to build a wall display that automatically boots into a webpage.
The final step is to put your new webpage on Home Assistant's built in web server. Simply create a folder "www" under your "config" folder, add your new html page there, and direct your new wall panel to it's address.
tl;dr - start small, come up with a goal, and build up to it in pieces trying different things along the way.
Pi 4 is overkill, a 2 would work fine, but I'd recommend a Pi 3 for $34 cause it is better hardware and will probably last longer. I tried a PiHole on a Nano just for fun but the PiHole GUI preformed abysmally.
and don't cheap out on the SD card, splurge and get a $5 - 16GB SanDisk or something reputable. I have about 9 active Pi's now running 24/7 for years and the only problems I ever have run into are due to corrupted or failed sd cards, because I used old crap laying around my office, or the cheapo ones they put in those Pi bundles you see on amazon. All the other stuff in the bundles is fine (power, usb cables, hdmi adapters, heat sinks cases, etc) but the cards always blow.
For a Pihole all you should need is a 16GB micro SD card(8 would work, but good companies don't seem to make them anymore) a micro usb cable for power, and an ethernet cable to attach it to your router. If you don't have a laptop or something with a micro SD slot, you may need something like this for the setup process(setting up the sd card is done on a computer)
I think you will need an external device for faster transfers from your SD card. Most built-in laptop SD card readers aren't made to run fast, so you can get a USB 3.0 device like this one can help with that (just an example, I'm not sure if it's the best one).
I think your two choices are pretty solid. Whichever you end up choosing, make sure that the configuration comes with at least 16GB of RAM (for your programs and Chrome) and your target amount of SSD storage space. These ultrathin & light laptops will almost always come with a PCIe SSD (they're slightly faster than SATA-based SSDs), so don't worry about the transfer speeds of the SSD.
Build ready, is there anything else I need to add on? If I want an SD card reader would this one be compatible? Do I need a networking card to connect directly to my router?

The out cable can be a trick to find, but amazon is probably the way to go. Also for the memory card, buy a dual SD card one. 128 is super cheap these days and you could fit the majority of PSP games on it.
Adapter like this:
UCEC Dual Slot Micro SD/SDHC to Memory Stick Pro Duo Adapter for PSP Sony https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XHPS43Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nT9TCb8P06679

I recommend investing in an SD reader, you can find good USB ones for like $8 USD. It's really nice to have for anybody who plays PM, especially if you like mods.
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but an internal or external SD/MicroSD card reader (Sabrent 74-in-1 3.5" Internal Flash Media Card Reader/Writer with USB Port, Black (CR-USNT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GAKX34E/) is great. Even having a small USB card reader always plugged in and easily accessible is good. (Transcend USB 3.0 SDHC / SDXC / microSDHC / SDXC Card Reader, TS-RDF5W (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FJRS8F8/)
I took some measurements in order to help in the search. I measured 6 random SD cards, and SD card adapters, and they range from 1.25" to 1.255", so it seems industry standards is likely that.
I then measured the the overhang (.293") of a standard SD card to determine the optimal length of: 0.957"
The issue now is finding the right measurements, as most companies don't go out of their way to provide measurements of their cards, or do not describe the measurements well enough to know which is the true length, width or height.
For example, this JetDrive Lite: http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-JetDrive-Storage-Expansion-TS128GJDL350/dp/B00K73NT1C
Measures (LxWxH): 0.9 x 1.1 x 0.1 inches. So, if the inserted length is 1.1, then it might work great with just a slight overhang. However, if it's the .9 for the inserted length, then it wouldn't full insert given the lip on the JetDrives.
That damn card reader was a tough find but this looks like your needs: http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-RDCR-11003-3-5-Inch-Internal-Reader/dp/B006DKEQL0/
Thankfully cd/dvd drives are much simpler: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-optical-drive-drw24b1stblkbas
There are also cd/dvd/bluray read/write drives available if you need that.
This liquid cooler's pretty much good for everything but it's quite loud and pricey: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-cpu-cooler-h100i
Good entry level air cooler: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2
This memory is cheaper and lower cas latency: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl9d8gbsr
I have this flash drive and this cable and they both work wonderfully.
Ignore the pictures in the second link. That's not what it looks like. It's just a USB cable with USB-C on one end and USB female on the other.
There's also this which is a dual USB-C, USB-A flash drive but with the added bonus of using micro SD cards. So if you wanna expand in the future you can slap a 64GB in there now, a 200GB later, and so on and so on. Haven't personally used it though.
Suggestion for you:
Get something like this
https://www.amazon.com/SmartQ-C307-Portable-MicroSDHC-MicroSDXC/dp/B06ZYXR7DL?ref_=ast_slp_dp
And a good 128 gb microSD card, maybe
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MicroSDXC-Adapter-MB-ME128GA-AM/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=sxin_2_ac_m_pm?ac_md=2-0-VW5kZXIgJDI1-ac_d_pm&keywords=128gb+micro+sd+card&pd_rd_i=B06XWZWYVP&pd_rd_r=99a5a5f8-06d5-4d0b-8ffe-ad5d29b185db&pd_rd_w=MNlW5&pd_rd_wg=TUWSs&pf_rd_p=7ffdbddd-e073-4cb0-834c-3e54bd44941a&pf_rd_r=ESGHTZT94MW63CHFCRXA&psc=1&qid=1568204234&s=gateway&sprefix=128
Initialize the card in the bit.
Put your vacation pictures on the card every year (or whatever frequency you vacation) and put the card in the bit.
If you don't use it a LOT more, I'd be very surprised.
This made all the difference for me, and utilizes (untethered to your phone and/or camera) the very best of what the 'Bit offers.

Pretty well so far. The sd card just goes in the slot in the cf/sd adapter, I haven't been taking much pictures because of finals this week. It's nice to use a larger capacity for CF format, since large CF cards are expensive. CF cards are usually used on higher end and older cameras. Just make sure that your camera has updated firmware to use larger card sizes and can use CF II, because they are bigger than normal CF cards you usually get.
They are something like this.
http://www.amazon.com/SD-CF-II-Type-Adapter-Supports/dp/B000YZGCIU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371088689&sr=8-1&keywords=cf+to+sd+adapter
My literal EDC. eCommerce by day. Husband, Father, Entrepreneur, programmer, and tech sponge by night.
Me like IPA's and API's.
From left to right, top to bottom. Here it is wrapped up.
I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YZGCIU/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
with
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7ID99I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it works perfectly. I shoot video/weddings with it and havent come across a buffer issue. The only issue I did come across was using a mucro sd/sd adapter/sd to cf adapter and the buffer was unbearable.
I originally bought this set up hopefully to work around the bent pins in my 5dmarkII. this set up didn't make it worse or better, since you still need to take it out of the CF slot completely.
Why is this my main set up now?
32GB cards are about 20 bucks compared to the high price of a 16GB CF card. 16 GB I can maybe shoot 500 photos on RAW, when in 32 I can easily double that. I don't need to depend on a card reader as well.
Not that cheap , but ive been using Kinston Nucleum for awhile and its worked pretty well for me. No excessive overheating and super reliable so far.

Post back here with your results! I'd love to see how it all turns out.
For instructions on what drivers you need to install from multibeast, read this post here. It uses the same motherboard. You should install everything that guy does except for the GPU stuff, as that's obviously going to be different.
Some more parts if you're interested:
I installed this DVD burner and it works out of the box. Not all DVD burners work, so if you need one I suggest this. There are also bluray drives that work out there for OS X.
I also installed this card reader. It just plugs into one of the USB 3.0 headers on the motherboard. You'll need a 3.5" to 5.25" front panel adaptor though, since that case doesn't have a 3.5" slot on the front. But those adapters are like 5 bucks.
I like to take my whole library with me. In physical form, that library now includes Mario Kart 8, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbits Kingdom Battle, Zelda BOTW, and Lego City Undercover (a surprisingly good game). I'll be picking up the new Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee to enjoy during holiday travel.
I ordered this to carry games in the tech pouch. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07416MZ2V At just about 7mm thick I think it stays in-line with the need for slimness in packing this thing.
"Isn't too old" is giving the CPU short shrift. Other than the rare 3215U in the Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015, the 3205U is the newest Broadwell Celeron there is for Chromebooks. The only thing more powerful than these are the far more expensive Core i3 and Core i5 Broadwell chips in the Toshiba and Dell 13-inchers. In fact, the 3205U benchmarks neck and neck with the Haswell i3 in the older C720p and Dell 11.
I'm pretty sure the storage can be upgraded due to it being a Broadwell CPU. All N29xx Bay Trail and N3xxx Cherry Trail laptops have soldered onboard storage.
We're planning to outfit the my buddy's C740 with a 64GB microSD card slotted into a low-profile adapter that will sit flush in the edge of the laptop. That'll leave his USB 3.0 port open for flash drives and the USB 2.0 port for his mouse dongle.
i got the message saying my USB drive drive is too slow only after 3 months and need something new. Anyone have better luck with the setup i linked below? Saw someone on this sub recommend it and hoping this can last longer
I have a question though, would he ever consider using this MS PRO DUO adapter so that we could use 2 micro SDs? This is great though, I am definitely interested in this.
I have a few friends who've tried this storage card. It's good for music and movies and it's pretty unnoticeable if you want to keep it in there.
It depends on what you need for when you transfer files to your computer. Some computers have the full size SD card reader so the adapter would be good for that. The reader is a usb stick that you put the microSD card into. You can buy a good reader for less than $15 so go with the cheaper option and buy the reader separate if you need it. I use this reader and it has worked very well. It is a little larger since it also reads full size SD cards. Whatever you purchase make sure it's USB3.0 so you can get fast transfer speeds (as long as you have a USB3.0 port on your computer).
Seems the best bet would either be JetDrive Lite, or buying a MicroSD card with a shortened adapter such as:
http://www.amazon.com/Shortening-microSD-Raspberry-Pi-Macbooks/dp/B00HV4YFYU/ref=pd_sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51kTBm29i3L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=18EPQ860C7389499MVG2
But if anyone has any other SD cards that sits flush I'm interested as well.
This. Absolutely correct and Thumbs Up! the 660p uses a good chunk of SLC Cache which makes it ideal for a games drive etc. - especially if you can run 2 in RAID0 (that's what I do; 2x 1TB 660p) and have a primary NVMe as boot drive that has higher sustained read/write, e.g. the 970 "EVO Plus" or "PRO" or WD Black Series and such. Now, the advantage of NVMe is that you can get cheap riser cards that will turn a PCIe slot into 2x NVMe for quite cheap since they just pass through the lanes. You cannot boot from it in most cases, but you can mount 2x 660p this way for storage. The riser shouldn't be more than $15. So, in total, your 2x 660p with the riser card roughly cost you as much as 1x 660p twice the capacity: 1x 1TB 600p = 2x 1TB 660p + riser.
Now, I have 3x NVMe slots on my board and don't use an adapter, but this is one I found on Amazon: NVMe Adapter for less than $11
I bought this guy on Amazon. It uses a micro SD card which I preferred since I have so many lying around from over the years, which might not be as convenient for you as it was for me.
Works great though and is nicely compact to boot
Here is the one I used along with 2 64gb cards. I fuckin love it.
One thing to remember, put one card in the a slot at a time, format that card through your PSP, then format the other card in that same slot you previously used. I think after all of that, I put both cards in, and had to do one more format. Good to go!
Yours were blue? Mine were smoked black and had the Zelda BotW logo on them. Anyways, I'm sure you could find some on used/small shop websites (e.g. eBay, Etsy, Mercari, etc.). Or get one of these if you have a large physical collection, they're slim and hold plenty to last you.
Edit: here you go. hold 6 instead of 4 and should fit in that pouch. Didn't take long to find. :)
sure,

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G5JV2B5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Had it since June and it's working great.
I have a iPad and that keyboard and I use this.
Kingston Nucleum USB C Hub, 7-in-1 Type-C Adapter Hub Connect USB 3.0, 4K HDMI, SD and MicroSD Card, USB Type-C Charging for MacBook, Chromebook, and Other USB Type-C Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BGJXTG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HFIpDb81N3MGT
You can have it hooked up and use headphones with a usb-c headphone adapter and plus in usb drives or memory cards too. Even had hdmi out. But like all hdmi out it won’t play drm stuff. But for the music creation it’s awesome. Can even charge your iPad while you do all that. I bought it a while ago and might be better solutions now but can confirm this works awesome.
Using a SanDisk High Endurance 128GB card and this adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTQZS4F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_v7MPDbT1QWD0R
It’s really the best option, all other card readers are huge and bulky
The comments about how it fits the SP3 on its Amazon page seem to be torn between "perfect fit" and "it wiggles."
How well would you say it fits?
Something similar that's made for the Surface 2, but sits flush with my 3 and looks great.
I really like my GO for travel, but M2 sucks and the 3000 is really a much better gaming experience. The chiclet buttons on the GO kind of suck and if you have normal human-sized hands, it's hard to hold. With softmods and CFW, you can do a non-permanent on just about any motherboard now. 3000 was three steps or so. Easy. There's no weird storage splitting (GO has onboard and M2) so you don't have to move around your saves or plugins. With a 3000, you can get dual and single memory card adapters. I have both and they work. You can go up to 128gb now, I think, but it's slow if you go that high. 32gb is easy and fast.
3000 has fewer emulation issues. I find that my GO has dumb random bullshit that for some reason crashes the unit with some SNES games. Even scrolling in the menu causes crashes ONLY on the GO.
IMHO, 2000 is best, but 1000 feels best in my hands. 3000 is okay, GO is really great for travel because it's so compact.
Not sure about the hard-wire connection, but streaming through Chromecast is always an option.
EDIT: For the USB flashdrive, I picked up one of these. It works great and just needs a reformat once you stick it into the device (From a Nexus 6P at least).

£4 card reader
Will something like this work?
Looks like it just turns SD card into a CF 2 card. Just making sure.
I use this thing and it is pretty sweet.
Have you tried mounting you PSP (with both cards in adapter) on a Windows computer as a USB drive with mini-USB cable and then formatting it with FAT32 Formatter (http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm)? This is how I got rid of a bunch of garbled files that take up a huge amount of space on a 2x128GB setup.
If this still doesn't work properly (it should show ~239GB free space after formatting), it's probably the problem with the RAID chip used in adapter. These knockoff adapters use all sorts of chips with different compatibility. Some people reported their adapters only support 32GB. You should try a different adapter if nothing else helps. This is the one I use with only one seller on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/UCEC-Micro-Memory-Stick-Adapter/dp/B06XHPS43Q
Yep, you can fit a PCIe SSD (also known as NVME) of any capacity. Since you only have 1 M.2 slot, you'll need to have a PCIe adapter if you want to clone your 128GB SSD onto the new one. Alternately, you can re-install Windows 10 and all of your software on your new drive.
As u/bennyblanco2121 said you can also keep your M.2 128GB drive and get a 2.5" SATA SSD. The speed difference between PCIe and SATA SSD isn't really significant for things like booting or starting programs. It's more obvious when copying large individual files.
well I'm not sure if the Kindle supports this, but they do make Micro USB OTG SD card reading adapters.
https://smile.amazon.com/Adapter-Standard-Connector-Smartphones-Function/dp/B01BXSKPES/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Micro+usb+otg+card+reader&qid=1563748244&s=gateway&sr=8-3
for an example, like I said; I have no idea on if the Kindle supports this type of thing though.
Has anyone tried one of the "shortening" micro SD adapters, such as:
http://www.adafruit.com/products/1763?gclid=CjwKEAiA3IKmBRDFx-P_rLyt6QUSJACqiAN8wIc_fIqHXFAJtVmHGPOOgVzMfBJhWFf5_hRyJqLfpxoCe7Dw_wcB
or
http://www.amazon.com/Shortening-microSD-Raspberry-Pi-Macbooks/dp/B00HV4YFYU
I'd like to know which Chromebooks they fit well in.
What? Why would you use a USB3->SATA adapter? The NAS case is meant for people connecting SATA based drives with the use of a PCIe controller card.
If you want to connect up a straight NVMe drive you'll need to buy a separate PCIe->NVMe adapter and work that out on your own.
If you're simply interested in just having an NVMe drive consider the NanoPC-T4. It's slightly more expensive due to the builtin wifi and 16GB onboard eMMC (no SD card needed), but the NVMe SSD will then mount smartly to the bottom of the board without hassle.
Another Alternative:
I have a 2015 Macbook Pro 13" with 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM and a Transcend JetDrive Lite 330 (128 GB) installed:
https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-JetDrive-Storage-Expansion-TS128GJDL330/dp/B00MTHLURE
I use the Transcend JetDrive Lite to store my large mp3 collection, pictures, documents, etc. and I really like it. It sits almost flush in the SD-CARD slot and out of the way.
My 2015 Macbook Pro is set up with 2 partitions (Sierra & Windows 10) and I use the Jetdrive to store most of my documents, music, pictures, etc. on it. The Transcend JetDrive Lite 330 is factory formatted as exFAT so both MacOS and Windows can access it.
If you have a 15" display:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K73NT1C/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_3_w
This is another storage idea that may save you buying a new SSD you do not use your SD-Card slot...
I have had no problems with corrupt files using a Micro SD card (64, 128, or 256gb) in Fat32 format. You may need special software to format a drive over 32gb in Fat32. I then place that into a USB 3.0 SD card dongle that is super small with Amazon link below. I plan on moving over to a Pi Zero and re-using the SD card when I do.

The reason I went with this setup is because so many people with USB thumb drives having write speed problems. Micro SD cards were meant for super fast write that recording video needs.
Adobe has a mobile version of Lightroom. It's supposed to support raw formats, but I'm not sure how you get a .cr2, .arw, .nef, .dng, whatever onto iOS. I'll let you sort that part out.
Last time I did something similar I used a USB-C card reader attached to my Blackberry to push photos to a Dropbox folder on the go. I used .jpgs and Snapseed (App Store and Play Store) in the middle and left the raw files for later archival.
The time before that I used WiFi transfer from an A7S2 and did everything in Google Photos. Those were snapshots of friends at a theme park so I wanted the simplest/fastest method.
Mmh, just a philips screwdriver with magnetic end (is it called like that?). Regarding static electricity, just plug your psu without turning it on and touch it before touching any other component. About SD Cards, I think you're looking at something like this, not necessarily this model. Optical drives are not necessary since you can install Windows from a flash drive
I use this in my 9550. It goes in a little PAST flush, but I looped a piece of clear tape on it to create a flexible pull tab. I've used it for a little over a year now with no issues. I carry the laptop daily so it gets pulled in and out of my backpack daily.

This drawer for your USB drives, adapters, memory cards, etc. Looks silly and has crappy build quality, but it's damn convenient.
There are also card readers for your unused 3.5" or 5.25" bays I own that specific one, and there's not much to say about it. It's functional so if you need one, it'll be worthwhile. I will note I had to open that one and cut out the power LED because it was so blindingly bright and unnecessary (it's built into my computer-- once I've tested it once I can assume it's turned on whenever my computer is turned on). But that was an easy fix and besides, $7 card reader, do you expect perfection?
I'm pretty sure it will work, this is the adapter I have (from amazon) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHPS43Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For a total of 50 game storage in your hand. I have 48 currently and am about to need a new solution though.
I've heard a lot of complaints saying it heats up a lot even when not charging anything, just by having it plugged in the laptop. Also some people say it interferes with the Wi-Fi connection when plugged in...
After a lot of research I've found out that Kingston Nucleum might the best choice, however it doesn't have an Ethernet Port... Oh why is it so hard to find a good USB C Hub ;(
These are two that come to mind. They are very basic and thin but certainly get the job done. I have two of the latter ones and they work just fine.

If you mean a single-slot MicroSD-to- MemoryStick adapter, then yes, it will work. That’s what I use in mine. Will work in any PSP except the PSP Go, which takes Sony M2 type of cards.
The PSP does not take full size “SD” cards, or the MicroSD-to-SD adapters that typically come with MicroSD cards; the (non-Go) PSPs use Sony’s proprietary MemoryStick Pro Duo cards, or adapters that are compatible with them.
PSP Memory Stick Adapter, Funturbo Micro SD to Memory Stick PRO Duo MagicGate Card for Sony Playstation Portable, Camera, Handycam https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F68FCHD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_olLzCbMVDH3E0
UCEC Dual Slot Micro SD/SDHC to Memory Stick Pro Duo Adapter for PSP Sony https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XHPS43Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KmLzCbJAMX55S
Insert MicroSD into MemoryStick adapter, format with PSP, and try to refrain from ever removing assembly from PSP thereafter, as these adapters are all fairly fragile; handle all data transfers using the MiniUSB sync cable from then on.
NOTE: Sizes over 64 GB may result in some XMB Menu slowdown, recommend custom firmware + Categories Lite plugin to mitigate.

That's going to be 10Gb/s which should be more than fine for your needs. Keeping it SFF makes this really your only option unless you want to get one with a 5 1/2 inch drive bay you can attach via SATA, or getting a MitX board for a SD card pci-e card.

For USB SD card readers, you have hundreds of options. As a brand, I trust Kingston, Sandisk, Tanscend, and Anker:

A Pandora battery is for if you accidentally screw up your system you can enter the system service mode so unless you have an issue there's really no point, plus they can be a little hard to find. In term of how to hack it if you want a permanent custom firmware use this method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZB7MQCeKkU
For games once you install the custom firmware you can change the usb settings to ISO in the custom firmware menu and actually rip you games you have into files to keep on the system storage. In terms of storage get this adapter and a micro SD card https://www.amazon.com/UCEC-Micro-Memory-Stick-Adapter/dp/B06XHPS43Q/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=BMM31ZM4XBBC&keywords=psp+memory+stick+adapter&qid=1550845163&s=electronics&sprefix=psp+memory+stick+adap%2Celectronics%2C140&sr=1-2-spons&psc=1 64 GB should be more than enough, just make sure you get a class 10 card for write speed purposes.
In terms of where to get some ISOs you can use https://romsmania.cc (just be careful which download button you are hitting)
Finally in terms of emulators try Wololo.net (again just be careful which download you hit, if you are not sure which one try hitting Ctrl + F and type download in the bar it will show you the downloads that are actual text on the page)
With all of that you should be good to go, just remember some psp games will require you to change the type of driver to play but they are all included in the custom firmware so its just a matter of hitting select and choosing the right driver.
Maybe download OpenSignal 3G 4G WiFi Maps and Speed Test and use it while you are out and about on tours and such. You never know if someone has discovered an open WiFi access point and mapped it before. I'd invest in a VPN service of some sort though if I were going to use any "open" WiFi.
That said, a USB-C flash drive is an excellent alternative if you need to offload some of those 4k movies that take up so much space. This is what I got:

You can't upgrade the RAM in a 2013 retina MBP, it's soldiered on. You should probably find one with 8GB. You can upgrade the SSD, but only with an M.2 NVME drive and adapter, like this: https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1HMMJC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=500gb%2Bm.2%2Bssd%2Badata&qid=1558903965&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

UCEC Dual Slot Micro SD/SDHC to Memory Stick Pro Duo Adapter for PSP Sony https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XHPS43Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_I1U7Bb9T9G3NY
Be careful though, natively the PSP only supports I think like 32GB max for the sdcard, though with the dual micro sd I have heard rumors of up to 64GB but have never been able to confirm this.
Hey! Thanks for the reply. Is this one alright?

I used to have the same USB drive as you, and it also gave me the same error message. Unfortunately, USB drives aren't really meant for constant re-writing, and wear out pretty quickly. What you need is a high endurance microSD card and USB adapter. The "high endurance" cards are designed specifically for dashcams and are made to handle constant re-writing. After upgrading to the high endurance card, I have perfect quality videos with no more error messages.
I'm pretty sure it's not possible to format drives from an iPad or iPhone. I use GUIFormat on Windows to format drives to FAT32.
Whoops, looks like my adapter is indeed Sandisk but the card I got was actually Samsung. Again, haven’t had these in long enough to speak to longevity, but they’ve been working well in the short term.

Personally, I got and prefer this, since it lets me plug into a computer and read the microsd card from there as well.
Also, the added benefit of not having to worry about losing the microsd card!
I do NOT yet own this, but I plan on getting one soon, just haven't needed it yet. It takes a microsd card, so that's nice to be able to upgrade it, swap cards out, etc. I have a similar one from Kingston that's MicroUSB that I've used for several years on a Flo and a G2 and I like the small compact design.. It, and another tiny flash drive, lives in my headphone case which I have available all the time.

I have used this one and I know others have as well and reported it works for Dell servers. Presumably that silverstone would work just fine. It shouldn't be hard to make these since NVMe is using PCIe, so all it should be is just a hardware adapter/passthrough.

I don’t know how to attach a picture here. But here is the link to that USB reader.
I would use it (and built-in MicroSD) mostly for storage, Steam has “move files” option to move a game to a different drive. If you want to run a game, it’s better to have it installed on built-in SSD.
Yes, they get hot, but not much hotter than CPU/SSD drive, I didn’t measure the temperature though, just don’t touch it.

When you said card reader, I thought you meant something like this. How exactly does that card reader work?
You can get a cheap case and still get USB 3.0 and also, the rear ports are motherboard dependent. My case was 30$ and has USB 3.0, USB 2.0, audio, mic, and sd card front ports. Also, you can get front facing ports that fit in the 5.5" bay.
The case:

I have this memory card adapter with 32+64GB SD cards.
The regular charger and Sony battery that comes with the PSP should be good enough. Most batteries you find are aftermarket junk and lots of people have bad luck with them.
I also have one of these coming in the mail soon. It fits 2000 and 3000 models only.

Here's one for $6 with free shipping on Amazon Prime. It only takes one micro SD card, but that should be all you need based on your post.
I have this $8 one that uses two micro SD cards, but I haven't come anywhere close to actually needing the second card (I think I've used about 8 GB and have two 64 GB cards in it).
These cards can sometimes be cheaply made and fall apart, but if you're not switching it in and out all the time, that shouldn't really matter much.

The Kodak should just take a standard Mini-USB cable. You'll have worse luck with the Sony though, since I think that's going to be a proprietary cable.
Barring that, you could also get a cheap card reader. Many if not most all-in-one card readers support the Memory Stick and CF cards. This one will do what you need.
9mm sd card? Thats quite a bit smaller than a micro sd card, definitely not what youre looking for. I believe youre looking for something like this. Its made for raspberry pis but should work for your case.

First you shouldn’t buy that SSD. All it is is an adapter put on a NVME m.2 SSD. Instead buy each part separately and save ~$100
2TB SSD
Adapter
And no that housing won’t work for the Apple SSD you would need this
Get something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/eSecure-Reader-Digital-Memory-Cards/dp/B003CKC8W8
Plug it into your computer, and copy off everything on your old card. Then plug in the new card, format it, and copy everything onto it.
I forgot to say the Samsung item in the post above is ONLY THE MEMORY CARD. You need a USB holder/adapter to be able to plug it in to the Tesla USB port - like this one
Rocketek Aluminum USB 3.0 Portable Memory Card Reader Adapter for Micro SD Card/TF Card Reader Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTQZS4F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WniTDbQVYRRTZ
https://www.amazon.com/QNINE-Adapter-Express-Controller-Expansion/dp/B075MDH28Y
would something like that work for you?
This with this works well for me!
You can throw in a larger SSD. You can use a $15 adapter so you can use any nvme pcie ssd just have to make sure your on high Sierra first.

What you want to do is get this: https://www.amazon.com/eSecure-Reader-Digital-Memory-Including/dp/B003CKC8W8/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1518156338&sr=1-10&keywords=card+reader
You can pull everything off your SD card and transfer it over to a mini or whatever your phone is using and then just plug it back in there. If you're in the US you can also head to a Fedex Kinkos with your memory card and ask them to do a transfer, they might do it - sometimes they won't though, especially if they're concerned you have copyrighted stuff on your cards. Make sure you bring your camera with you and explain the situation, last thing you want to do is look like you stole someone else's card and are just trying to steal stuff.
There are sdhc card adapters that are stubby.

I got this one, it works ok. I think you could shave 2mm off the end too.
I had the same problem with my old Asus Maximus VI Gene.
The m.2 slot on these boards is an adaptor that fits next to the rear sockets. (mPCIe Combo III, top left on the pic below)
https://dlcdnimgs.asus.com/websites/global/products/cc5990tdPiScUKzO/img/top_1.jpg
Fitting a longer SSD in there will hit the MOSFET heatsink.
Your best bet would be to find a PCIe-m.2 adaptor card
You might not be able to boot from an SSD fitted that way, but you will be able to use it as storage.
You might need to install drivers for it to be recognized..
This is a "reader". It will handle most memory cards that camera can use.
I would strongly suggest you read through the manual to learn how to use the camera though.
Dude, you can afford a $40,000 car, but not a larger drive? Also, this:
If you have USB flash drive that is constantly being written to that flash drive eventually is going to fail. Writing, writing a lot (which dashcams do) is exactly what wears flash drives out.
Instead, a longer lasting way to record dashcam and sentry video is to use endurance micro sd cards paired with a USB reader. The Samsung endurance micro SD card linked below is good for 17,520 hours of recording.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07B984HJ5
Put it inside a decent USB micro SD reader and you have a fairly reliable solution.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06XTQZS4F
the original one i bought was the Rosewill Internal Card Reader (RCR-IM5001) but since that one is now out of stock the next one i recently ordered(yesterday) was the Sabrent Internal Flash Media Card Reader.
You could try an nvme pcie adapter. (I've never used one, but as far as I can tell they work just as well).
This link is just the first one that came up on a Google search.
QNINE NVME PCIe Adapter, M.2 NVME SSD to PCI Express 3.0 Host Controller Expansion Card with Low Profile Bracket, PCIe NVME Adapter for PC Desktop, Support 2230 2242 2260 2280 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075MDH28Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_N7DCDbF26FFER
if you want things like an SD card reader and other peripherals then get this bad boy right here https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-3-5-Inch-Internal-Reader-CR-USNT/dp/B00GAKX34E/ref=sr_1_35?ie=UTF8&qid=1475122106&sr=8-35&keywords=sabrent basically every computer I've built has one, only downside is the indicator light will fry your retina if you look directly at it.
I bought this one. Works fine and is tiny. It'll depend on what cards you need to read, of course.
Cant find yours. Try this:
Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card For Upgrade 2013-2015 MacBook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FYY3H5F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oH6RBbD35FFYV
But technically any should work as they are just merely a passive adaptor ( the adaptor literally just change the connector type)
micro sd to sd adapter
Or micro sd to USB adapter, you weren't terribly specific about how you plug it in to your computer.
word of advice. If the built in dashcam is cyclic recording to that usb, you should probably opt for a high endurance SD card and an adapter.
If it only dumps a file to it when you hit save, USB stick would be fine.
Look on the stick and see if theres a folder with a bunch of video files that you didnt save, and/or if the stick is constantly full when you plug it into your computer. If its full, its cyclic recording, and will wear out quickly.

So based on the feedback, I’m thinking both the options below should work well. Personally I’ll try the microsd option first but as a backup would try the ssd also
Option 1:
Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB Micro SDXC Card with Adapter - 100MB/s U1 (MB-MJ128GA/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B984HJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MlMoDbX21VNBH

Option 2:
Samsung T5 Portable SSD - 500GB - USB 3.1 External SSD (MU-PA500B/AM), Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073GZBT36/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qsMoDb42EPX8B
I've used Lightroom Mobile on my phone (Galaxy S7) and I find it's good for doing quick edits (crop, exposure, color, etc).
It's not as full fledged as the desktop Lightroom but it does have the ability to process RAW files into Jpegs. I just dump files from my D750 using a SD to Micro USB OTG Phone adapter.
Depending on what you need to do it'll get the job done and even for my phone pictures I just put it into Lightroom Mobile and it works wonders for me.
Stay away from the juiced adapter if you want to use your power connector. This one works without interfering, I have it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HWMP108/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They cost about $8 on Amazon.
If nothing else, it's still a good thing to have if you ever decide to upgrade the microSD card your Switch uses, or if you have an a Android phone crap the bed and you need to transfer data/apps, etc.
For Switch data transfer, just copy/paste all the data from your current card to your computer, pop the new card into the Switch and format it, then load the data from your computer onto the new card.
This is what I use with my 12" MacBook. Nevertheless, I only have one device, an external SSD, that needs to be on USB-C due to power requirements.
If you want a USB-C hub with no USB-A ports, I'm afraid that's not happening any time soon.
Last ditch: https://www.reddit.com/r/gpdwin/comments/5lhv9a/for_those_having_sd_card_reader_issues_try_this/
and if that doesn't work, you may want to just use one of these:

I've built this computer from parts other people have owned, from parts I previously owned, and I've had a few of these items as gifts. Looking to upgrade my CPU/GPU/motherboard this coming year.
Except those compact flash cards are crazy expensive for anything higher than a few gigs. A SD-CF adapter is the most economic way to get you back in the >100Gb range the iPod originally had. I still have a functioning 160Gb model and it's nearly full, so there's no other way I'd be able to fit all my music on it.
Edit: You're still looking at around $100 total.
Also guitar picks work as pry tools.
If you have a working USB port you can use this or something similar. They also have regular SD card adapters for computers that have an SD card slot.
Something similar to this, but only usb 2.0
I painted all of the faceplates to match the case as close as I possibly could. All of the front panel components were black:

Actually.
There is one way to "extend" it.
You need a shortened SD card adapter. Then take it from there.
Here is the mobile version of your link
I use this:

Happy with it so far
Around $40 for both of these. If you already have a card reader laying around then that one should work.
