It always gets hard dating these kinds of things...but according to this site which not only lists serial numbers but the number of actually produced firearms for the month - the number in process and more importantly the number accepted by ordinance approval it sounds (looks) like its possible for a rifle to be started in one month and then finished (or accepted) in the next as there is constant carry over during all the production.

Of course its also possible someone took off a closely matching barrel from another receiver and put it on yours. Either way I would check the amount of throat erosion and of course if the bolt head spaces into the barrel. If the rifle is solid and that all holds up as long as the price is good it shouldn't be an issue as it probably is an all original (or at least I cant find anything that would say it isnt)

Theyre great guns and if you want a tip buy some of these 6.5mm Laddram Clips as they will work in an 03 as stripper clips (will ping out after loading/as you close the bolt) its impossible to get original 03 stripper clips as they were two parts (brass and steel) and once the rounds were loaded the two parts would separate and really were one time use, ive been using these same couple mauser clips for a few years now over and over no issues, good luck!

edit just saw the price on those 6.5mm clips, when I purchased them they came in a 40 ct milsurp box (in total about $35) so shop around as they aparently now only give you 10 for $28.50 which sounds steep to me.

> Do you think a reality TV star known for bankruptcies and being a general piece of human trash is a good fit for a president?

I think as a person he is near trash, we're in agreement there, but his policy is not bad. Since Bill Clinton and JFK were elected despite being not the best people on the merit of "look at their policy, not their character", republicans have done the same.

>I know it’s not really relevant, but if we’re talking about a debate here how can you dismiss someone’s point of view based on their profession?

>Because the dude is a comedian he can’t have intelligent thoughts outside of jokes?

Fair enough, one's profession is not a good metric for judging their ideas and ideals. However, when your opening line is essentially saying responsible gun owners keep their guns in safes rendering them useless proves his ignorance on a subject right out of the gate. Why would I consider the opinion of one with no credibility? I keep my hunting rifles and shotguns in a safe, and yes, I wouldn't have time to get them in an intrusion. I do, however, have something like this on my nightstand. I can retrieve a loaded gun from a safe in about 15 seconds. If it's not there, it's on my hip where it's also safe.

Thanks!

I actually have two fishing systems there. This one, which is awesome and I wish I still had access to a lathe so I could make one myself, and this one. That latter system kinda sucks, as it likes to fall apart and doesn't cast well. Since the reel doesn't actually spin (due to plastic-on-plastic friction as well as the axle being threaded) you have to draw the line out and cast it by hand, effectively making it worse than the hobo hand rod. I'll try printing this one off, which is made by the same guy but designed to use a bearing to allow the reel to spin when cast.

The saw is just an Opinel folding saw. But it fits perfectly into a Condor MA31 mag pouch. The laplander saw fits just as well, and a Silky Gomby can fit, it just takes up more vertical space and you don't get as much engagement on the velcro.

I have a ½ rack, half triple shelf. Long guns ranging from SBRs to a full size RPR. The best trick I’ve found is a DIY solution.

• Take a 2-3’ long rod (fiberglass driveway markers or something similar that will fit in your bore)

• On one end fit a screw cap, the little rubber bits to protect the threads. This goes into your barrel.

• On the other end, thread on a tee nut with a male Velcro dot on the end.

Insert the rod through the muzzle, and place the butt stock on the safe floor. When it’s where you want it, pull up on the rod and the Velcro will hold the rifle in an upright position with the felt lining in the safe. This works well for all rifles Ive had so far unless you have some mall-ninja glass package that really throws off the center of gravity.

Or you can buy a pre-built Kit like this

I've made several battery powered speaker boxes this past year. Some selling for around $400, some for about $80. I have a few tips for you if interested;

Try a smaller Amp.. That car head unit is sucking waaaayyy too much power than it needs. Also, they are what, 200w? (50w x 4)? That nuts.. Try this little guy and be amazed at it's efficiency. I can clock in anywhere from 10-20 hours a charge with that amp, depending on loudness.

Maybe a cheaper/easier solution for a case too. I've used these and love them. If you get a bassy song, they might rumble a bit.. Depends on your speakers, If you have foam, etc..

Try to separate the channels. A lot of music is recorded in true stereo and might sound strange when built in a box that combines left and right.

Have fun man!! Make more, put them on Etsy.

So I purchased this Maverick 88 back about a year and a half ago. I was purchasing a rifled 20 gauge at the time for hunting. That was my first firearm and I knew just about nothing about firearms. The guy I purchased that 20 gauge from also sold me the Maverick 88. I got it for $200 out the door, used. I now know that I could have gotten new one for $200 before tax. Oh well, you live and learn.
Anyway, I didn’t much care for this Maverick 88. I shot it when I first bought it. I shot it again last spring to determine if it would be worth it for turkey season. No threaded barrel, so not so great. It’s been sitting in my safe since last spring. I’ve wanted to try to sell it but hadn’t gotten around to seeing what I could get for it. Then, I saw a post on the sub about a guy who saved a Mossberg 500 from a pawn shop and turned it into a home defense shotgun. I decided that I would do the same thing to my Maverick 88. I wanted a home defense shotgun and I wanted to learn more about the inner workings of firearms. I also gave it a thorough parts cleaning.

I own a Gun Vault biometric safe which is located next to my bed. I have 3 young children and this is perfect for me. I programmed my fingerprints and after some learning on my part discovered that if I wet my finger a little (lick my finger then wipe it off) the safe reads my fingerprint better and opens immediately. It uses a 9 volt battery which lasts 6-9 months with me using it twice a day.

If you go this option I would recommend mounting the safe to something. Currently my safe just rests on the lower portion of my nightstand. I opted for the biometric safe which is a little more expensive. Do some research. I highly recommend this safe.

A couple useful channels on YouTube (also check full30.com):

  • nsz85
  • John Lovell
  • Jerry Miculek
  • Reid Henrichs

    Things to look up:

  • 4 rules of firearms safety
  • cleaning your weapon
  • trigger control
  • grip and stance
  • sight alignment
  • administrative load
  • speed/combat/emergency reload
  • unloading and clearing
  • clearing malfunctions
  • double taps, controlled pairs, hammer pairs
  • standing vs kneeling vs prone shooting
  • breath control
  • moving and shooting
  • cover vs concealment
  • shooting around/over barricades
  • best rounds for home defense vs range vs longer range
  • gear (slings, belt, mag pouches, chest rigs, plate carriers)
  • red dots vs irons vs low power variable vs fixed magnification optics

For any given item above, I like to consult more than one source on them, do forum searches, ask experienced buddies, etc. to get a rounded picture.

If you're going to do a lot of dry fire practice, it's important to hit the range as soon as possible to get a feel for the level of recoil and muzzle movement. This way you'll practice at home with that in mind. Also, as is commonly known, with any move you learn (like reloads or whatever) you should start slow and get it smooth and perfect, then gradually increment up the speed, always seeking smoothness and sureness of motion. No herky jerky fumbling.

You may want to get a 556 mag pouch to start practicing loads, reloads, and malfunction drills. Cheapest is the Mako paddle pouch since you won't need a full gun belt or battle belt setup to use it. Otherwise choosing a gun belt and pouches will take time and money to get right for your needs. For those, avoid pouches with velcro flaps or the elastic retention loops over the top, and stick with open top friction retention like the Esstac KYWIs or HSGI Tacos.

Also, weapons manipulation techniques used in defense/tactical purposes may be different from those used in competition. They'll be slower, surer, more failsafe. Whereas in competition you're going solely for speed and accuracy and screw-ups aren't fatal.

For example, on a speed reload in competition you might hit the mag release button and let the mag fall out, grab a new mag with your thumb along the side and insert straight up into the magwell and hit the bolt catch paddle with that thumb. Whereas in a tactical or defense situation you may flick the safety on, hit mag release button, grab the empty mag and strip it out, insert fresh mag, optionally give it a good tap on the bottom, then tug it to make sure it's seated, then hit the paddle, then safety off. The latter is a little slower but prevents negligent discharges, mags not dropping free, mags not being fully seated, and other murphy's law things.

    Anyway, have fun!

Nice, glad you had a good time, and ripping jeans while going commando while going commando on your first outing in airsoft is the stuff of instant legend.

As for the advice; I'm still too noob to speak with much authority (my first game is this weekend), but I at least have been gearing up a bit this season while biding my time. I'd recommend a good battle belt and then either one or a pair of drop-leg pouches over those climbing harnesses. Unless you plan to go fast-roping any time soon, a climbing harness won't be very functional, and it won't do much to keep the crotch of your pants intact if that's what you're worried about. Drop-leg pouches, on the other hand, are removable if you're not using them, and drop-leg platforms come with molle strips you can mount whatever gear you want on them, making them configurable too.

Plus, bonus no crotch-flossing or wedgie-inducing load-bearing straps running down the middle that are the bane of my masculine existence whenever I have to put one on.

Edit: Note, the above links are more for reference than as specific product recommendations.

A couple notes about it:

  1. it's not adjustable, not sure if you need it to be, just saying. But the size is pretty nice

2)They do fit perfectly, unless they don't have a neck, the 3rd pic shows the two bottles that couldn't fit because they were too big

    Enjoy!
u/JorvikViking · 1 pointr/mazda3

Good question - I haven’t found a good solution yet. I was thinking something like this mounted in the trunk.
What are you trying to fit? My G43 just fits in the center console. Any of my full frame pistols have to go in a sleeve under a seat (for a short period of time only!) or in the trunk.
I built a custom amp rack under the parcel shelf and may mount of those safes to it if there’s space after my second amp is mounted.
This is one of those times where a larger vehicle is beneficial :/

Cardio Cardio Cardio. And some tac gear is not a bad thing if you are aware of how to use it. I recommend this guy. It is easy to modify with some longer velcro straps to fit any clip size. And that tac vest has some room for expansion. I also have this dump pouch.

I've also got a workout guide to get you in shape and ready for some running Here. I wrote this for me and it has already started but you should be able to catch up.

And make sure you have fun and lots of it.

Why the 590A1 over the 500? I have one, and honestly, I wish I'd just gotten the 500 and saved the money. The 590A1 is heavier, and you can get a combo deal for a good price (example: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/37_336/products_id/46905).

You definitely want to lock your gun up. I see the shotlock sells on their website for $169 - I got this: (http://www.amazon.com/SentrySafe-G0135-Black-Maximum-Capacity/dp/B000Z8P1J2/) on sale at walmart for $163 - it's $179 at the moment, just a thought.

There is some debate about the best rounds to use for a shotgun in a home defense setting- there are two factors at odds - the ability of the projectile(s) to stop a threat, and the tendency of the projectile(s) to penetrate walls in your house and put family/neighbors at risk. The fact of the matter is that the two go together. I have 00 buck, in RIO Low Recoil 00 buck. Federal Low-Recoil is highly recommended I believe.

u/RandomRageNet · 1 pointr/guns

I'm a first-time owner too! I use this safe to lock my pistol up. I keep it loaded in the safe but not chambered -- I figure if I have time to open the safe, I have time to actually pull the slide, but don't have to mess with fumbling for a mag in the darkness.

I keep the rest of the ammo in my closet, because what is someone gonna do, throw it at me?

(and yes, that's my amazon associate link up there but I never actually use it so I figure I might as well)

u/BobTheBloatedFish · 1 pointr/Nerf

I know it's not the question you asked, but related. This pouch fits a 35 drum perfectly. It's almost like it was made for it. The bottom is flat too, so it's not awkward or anything.

Fun fact: this little [1] safe is the reason I bought my first [2] pick kit.

I ordered and received this brand new mini safe and then put the keys in it like an idiot in order to move it to another room. Little did I realize that it would auto lock on me before I set it's first code. Sad panda big time.

Replacement factory key = same price as cheap lock pick set without having to document every aspect of my purchase.
Decision...decision...get a lockpick set and find out what lockpick skills I might have or order a replacement key for the same price and have to scan in and email all sorts of i.d.?

Got the pick set. Found out a monkey could pick this safe. You are a better picker than you realize. Give it a try. It's fun and the are lots of resources to learn about the mechanics of locks. The history of them is another very neat read.

Also, this safe would take some time to pry into with levers and hammers as it is fairly heavy duty for a cheapie. However, one pick and one tensioner could pick it in one second once you've practiced. Think about that. Thank god most criminals are idiots without pick skills.

I'm very happy with it. It's heavy and well made. I also like that it's not battery powered.

I use this GunVault and I love it.

The biometric scanner in the new models is much better than previous ones (in case some are going to argue their reliability).

Also, GunVault is a phenomenal company to work with, providing some of the best customer support and care I've ever experienced. Price is high, but in this instance, I firmly belief I got what I paid for.

PEW PEWWW

Under CA law:
If you leave your gun laying around and a child obtains your firearm and uses it, you will be convicted of a crime. This does not apply if your child breaks into your safe (seriously... here's a link http://law.justia.com/codes/california/2013/code-pen/part-6/title-4/division-4/chapter-2/section-25105).

I don't think CA has given us any requirements (i.e. thickness of metal, type of lock, etc.) to what 'locked container' means.

I would go with something that is fully enclosed, has a combo lock (so you don't have to find a key at 3AM), that your child can't realistically get into, and can be bolted to something.

Here are a few that I like.

  1. https://www.amazon.com/GunVault-SV500-SpeedVault-Handgun-Safe/dp/B006OGNLKA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481427521&sr=8-2&keywords=velocityvault

u/dimview · 5 pointsr/guns

That choice depends on how much protection you need, how big it is, and your budget. The cheapest pistol box is Stack-On PDS-500. You'll need to either disable mechanical key override on it or replace it with Abloy. While you have it open you might also want to put a piece of metal to protect the solenoid from being activated through the hole in the corner (look for YouTube video that demonstrates this exploit). Stack-On makes similar lockboxes, but bigger.

Anything from Liberty Safe is good to go if it's within your budget.

u/tripleryder · 1 pointr/guns

Something like this, while not the ideal in terms of protection, may help to appease your mother.

u/Zak · 1 pointr/flashlight

The belt diameter of the .300 Weatherby looks to be 13.5mm, as are many cartridges derived from the .375 H&H. .378 Weatherby has a 14.8mm belt, and there are a number of others in that class.

But the best match for AA is probably .500 S&W, and the reviews confirm it: more people are talking about using them for AA batteries than for ammunition.

u/CrossShot · 2 pointsr/Glocks

Something top of the line is Fort Knox Pistol Box.

I spent a bit of time researching biometric safes and came to the same conclusion as /u/whatthefuckguys - namely that biometric safes are a crock of shit.

My biggest problem with them is that they require a battery or some kind of electric power source. That's a single point of failure - not what you want if some asshole is breaking down you front door in the middle of the night.

Can you imagine getting murdered because you couldn't draw down because you can't get you fancy pants bio safe open?

On the other hand I have 2 kids (ages 2 and 5) and a halfway-sane wife, so unlocked guns in the house is absolutely out of the question.

I got to thinking about mechanical locks, and ended up with one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009OGLG04/

I liked it so much I bought a second one. With a little practice, it now takes me less than 3 seconds to go from locked to open and gun in hand. The lock keys are tactile and you can do it in pitch black darkness.

Can't recommend it enough. It has nice felt inside, a handle so it travels well - I take it to the range all the time.

The one downside is that due to the mechanical lock, the number of possible combinations is smaller, so it could be brute-forced. But it's really just intended to prevent casual access - which it excels at.

Depends on your clearance - I'd do something like this and bolt it down.

  1. Store your shit in something with a gasket seal, like an ammo can or some ridiculously expensive camera case.
  2. Keep a carbon filter locked with it.
  3. Exhale into a smoke buddy or sploofy.
    Good luck.

I know you want to put it on the wall, but I just ordered one of these on amazon. It is going under my side of the bed.

Another option would be a concealment shelf from TacticalWalls

I love it!

edit: note the retention is not the best, good for range/play use but the mag might fall out when crawling on ground.

We use ammunition storage cases instead of eppendorf tube storage cases from science suppliers. Like these from amazon. They're like half the price compared to the ones we found in VWR, though they don't fit quite as right in the -80 (a little bulky), they're fine in the -20. These half-sized versions fit nicely in drawers. At $2 a pop we also don't really feel bad shipping eppy tubes in them to collaborators, etc.

If you ever need to cut the bottoms off of eppendorf tubes for whatever reason, dog toenail clippers are where its at.

Does anyone know of an alternative for the sponges that come with blotting transfer tanks. We have a mini trans blot and the sponges are getting nasty but I don't feel like paying BioRad $40 for them.

This is where my loaded LC9 stays when I'm not home: http://www.amazon.com/Stack-On-PDS-500-Drawer-Safe-Electronic/dp/B002KEIU4W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1330905050&sr=8-3

It's enough protection to know someone won't be pulling your gun on you when you get home. Something to think about investing in. It would save some wear on your gun/ammo too!

You might be able to jury rig one out of this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0082CWBCI?keywords=drop%20leg%20platform&qid=1450164222&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

That said, it'll probably hit your arm as you try to walk around.

Another option is to go with a soft leather back quiver (like a Howard hill style quiver). It'll compress against your back and hold the arrows in place so it doesn't rattle around when you're moving!

I used to use a hydration pack on a back harness as a quiver as well: http://imgur.com/nX6YQUz

It did the job well of holding the arrows in place and for $30, it was a darn good quiver. The only problem is that the arrows sat high on my back so trying to get through trees/brush was an absolute nightmare as the arrows snagged onto every low hanging branch

Get a small safe like this while you live on campus to keep your shit in.

u/possible-troll · 5 pointsr/guns

If you have traffic in your house, (Especially of the kid type) Get a digital locking safe, preferably one with a backup key.

Example: http://www.amazon.com/Stack-On-PDS-500-Drawer-Safe-Electronic/dp/B002KEIU4W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334582257&sr=8-1

I also really like the Winchester PDX ammo for Home Defense. If you are worried about wall penetration the Power-Ball will buy you some peace of mind, but the jury is still out on it. I usually keep on hand enough HD ammo around for 2 mags of whatever my current HD gun is.

Finally.. SHOOT YOUR HD AMMO. So many people don't use it due to the price. But you need to make sure that that the ammo performs properly in the gun.

I want to get a gun safe for my small apartment, but I don't want to break the bank. How "bad" is it to get one of the cabinet-like safes?

I have a Mosin, 10/22, and 3 pistols. Soon I'll probably also have an AK and a shotgun of some kind.

I have this installed on the roof of my trunk for storing my CCW when I need to leave it in my car. It's actually bolted to the frame so I feel a lot safer about it than the lock boxes that just have a cable to wrap around the seat brackets.

The fact that it's in the trunk (and mostly out of sight even with the trunk open) is important: most smash-and-grab thieves don't even open the trunk, I can put it in valet mode and keep anybody I turn the car over to from even seeing that it's there, and it's a secondary locked container so it automatically complies with all but the most draconian storage/transport laws.

I have this one on my 590A1. It's the TacStar 6 shell side saddle.

Shotgun shell bandolier. 56 rounds. Or in this case 56 15ml bottles for dripping on the go. Not sure which you want to carry out with you? Carry them ALL!

This is the insert https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X81D98S/

Fits any 50 cal ammo can, I’m using this one in particular https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051F905U

About $25 and I like it better than a pelican case. Not as protective of course, but thats not a feature I really need. The PickandPluck pissed me off because it started getting compressed over time or just picking itself. This isn't as perfect as something custom cut but it's really great, I use the old pick and pluck pieces as spacers to make up for the height differences

Get a holster for the pistol, sling for the rifle, and belt mounted holders for the magazines.

I do some informal "2 gun" and for pistol I use a Safariland paddle holster for my P226, and Sig's double mag holder for the pistol magazines. For rifle, I used to borrow a friend's "dump pouch" and carried magazines in there, but I found and switched to these AR mag holders: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004O6CBSA/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's mine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KEIU4W/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Less than 50 bucks, simple 4 digit PIN number and a twist. Heavy and bolted to the drawer bottom.

Can it be defeated? Sure. Rip it out of the drawer and smash it to pieces with a crowbar and a hammer.

Is it easy and fast to open? Yep, unless you are hopelessly confused about the universal layout of a numeric keypad.

I can do it by feel in the dark in a few seconds. If that isn't fast enough, I am already in deep shit.
