To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where hunting & shooting accessories are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
Oils/cleaner: G96 Gun Treatment. Pretty much the only thing I use. Smells nice, cleans nice, lubes nice. Plastic/wood safe, it's just all-around awesome. I keep some Hoppes solvent around as well, but I honestly don't use it much.
Cleaning gear: You can buy the kits, but the best ones I've found are the fibreglass or carbon fibre one piece rods, like these. They seem to be the most reliable. Keep a threaded one in your range kit, but for the shop, get one of these guys. I have this Birchwood Casey kit and it has held up pretty well.
For tools, this Mastercraft set is like 90% of what you need. Get yourself a set of Allen keys, a staple gun (for targets), a small brass/plastic hammer, and a pin punch for drifting pins.
I carry all my stuff around in one of these cases.
Home Depot sells a bag of rags in their painting department that's basically just scrap white cotton cutoffs. Perfect for patches and wiping things down, just trim to size. You get like 100 of the things for about $15.
> I’m a young small woman and want a damn way to defend myself.
This is important information, because you weren't born with effective weapons like men and their bigger muscles and bones. Maybe I can help. Although I'm a fairly muscular man with lots of "martial arts" training, I abhor violence, and I don't like even getting close to a combatant, let alone touching them, even with an object. I have far more training than I need to subdue someone larger than me without hurting them, but I don't want to let things get that far, so I have developed strategies that might work for you.
The #1 best strategy is to run. Literally break out running in the most inappropriate times and places, haha. However, that's impractical as your first tool, because you won't realize you're in danger until you're already within grabbing distance. At that short distance, the time it takes to turn around and run just gives the attacker time to get a tighter grip on you, and beat you senseless until you can't defend yourself anymore.
So, you need the #2 best strategy first, pepper spray. If you need it, you need it fast. Don't put it in a purse or pocket. Have it in your hand, ready to go. I travel in very rough areas pretty often, and my size means usually only people with friends, weapons, or larger size will try to harm me. Occasionally there's someone drunk, stupid, or crazy, who breaks those rules. The worst ones go for me, while the not so bad ones will have no fear going for you. You have to be able to handle all of them, and GOOD QUALITY pepper spray faster than a bolt of lightning works better than all my muscles and training, even on the big guys. I recommend this one for its concealability, the stream to avoid accidentally spraying nearby people, and the keyring on it for a lanyard so you can't drop it.
I recommend this one also because it's much more effective, but larger and harder to handle, with no keyring to prevent drops.
I carry both types simultaneously, and I switch my plan ("which will I grab if something happens?") depending on how many people are around that might accidentally get sprayed if I use the big one. The big one is MUCH more effective than the little one, so it's worth it to carry it. However, the lanyard on the little one means I can attach it to a beltloop without worrying I'll lose it if it falls off.
The most important thing I learned is speed. Again, if you need it, you need it fast. So, having a little weak pepper spray constantly and inconspicuously in your hand is more important than having a bigger meaner can you have to fish around in a bag to find it.
Other important things I learned is I suck at aiming, and I usually miss, especially with fast-moving dogs. In fact, I've never successfully hit a dog, probably because I'm genuinely scared when those fangs come out, versus the human that I'm not so scared of because I can handle them physically. When you're scared, you're probably going to miss if you use the little pepper spray canister. The more powerful the spray, the better your odds of hitting them.
The last time I used my little pepper spray on a human, I did not miss, but it was so fast, the guy was stunned at first before he even felt the pain, and I had a chance to run away. Again, speed is everything. After the pain started, this guy started to pursue me, but the head start I had let me reach safety before he could catch me with all that pepper in his eyes.
That's another thing I learned. The fact he pursued means pepper spray is not good enough by itself. You need something meaner as a backup. In training, pepper spray is supposed to be followed by baton (club) blows to the legs. You don't have the muscles or the arm reach to do that at a safe distance and make it as painful as possible, so I'm not sure if carrying a baton is right for you. The temptation for you, lacking strength, would be to aim for the head, and that will definitely work. You will kill them if you hit them in the head with a baton, and then you'll be a killer. If you don't like the idea of somebody's sticky brains on your face, don't use the baton until you can get training to use it correctly without feeling desperate enough to aim for the head. I recommend an ASP P21 baton:
A good inconspicuous backup or alternative to a baton is one of these, which has no blade so no problems with security:
In one of these:
You can stuff the DeSantis City Slicker coin purse in your pants, or in a pocket or purse, and it's reasonably safe to hit someone in the head with it due to the leather padding and flat shape. It's designed for coins, but the multitool is more useful weight, and works better with less strength. The coin purse is actually a better holster for the multitool than the official hoster, because it doesn't stick out far, look weird, and snag on things. Nobody even sees it when I have it in my pocket or pants, because it's so thin, and the wide shape makes it smooths out the outline of the multitool so it disappears.
The multitool has a geared drive which is fantastic for smaller, weaker hands, or for gentle one-handed use. It greatly amplifies your strength, and I have to be careful not crush the crap out of things with it. There is a bit set available with more tools, but that's outside the scope of this comment. It will be useful for you if you need to fix something unexpectedly, so let me know if you want help finding it. Hint: The black oxide version is more expensive than the silvery version, but the silvery version is better despite also being cheaper. It also doesn't look "tactical", like something threatening, if you get the silvery version. The bit set is only available in the black oxide.
A Taser is the next best thing I can think of, but it's horrendously expensive at around $40 per shot. And you only get 1 shot. If you can afford it, I suppose a Taser would work, but you're going to miss without training, and the training is going to be expensive at $40 per shot. Plus, it might not work, especially if you're shooting at a winter coat, or there's more than 1 person attacking you, which is very common. Your backup needs to be as reliable as a baton.
I think being a skilled and somewhat muscular male gives me the luxury of not hurting people who want to hurt me. In your case, I wouldn't look down on you if you had to badly hurt someone to protect yourself. I don't think anyone except gun control activists would look down you.
I hope that helps.
I'm using a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm on my Mini-30, using it for deer hunting in woods/hills (50-100 yard shots at most).
I've only had it one season but it has netted me a deer so far and has been enjoyable to use.
Pros: clear, good low-light, not overpowered (2x is good for close shots, 7x is about the reach of the mini-30)
Cons: Have to really double down on the lock-tight, mount came loose causing me to completely miss my second deer.
If I could Trade: Not really, at least none come to mind. I have a 3x-9x on my .270 and I think it's under-powered for that gun, but for my mini-30 the 2x-7x is comfortable.
I used the Wheeler scope mounting kit for mine, overkill if you are just doing one (local gunshop would be happy to do it) but useful for me as I have several guns and I have a bunch of family and friends who have used it, after your second scope mounting it really pays for itself.
I'd recommend spending the money on a set of Grace USA punches. Bought mine from Amazon and I absolutely love them. I bought these. I also bought this set of Grace roll spring holders. Very useful for starting roll pins. A decent hammer (I have a dedicated brass mallet and a dedicated nylon mallet), and a [bench block]https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-60981-Universal-Bench-Block/dp/B0047WKF84) if you like things to be easy.
I also have a needle file set (don't remember the brand, but they were like $20 for 6-8 of them). For sanding on the internals I generally just use wet/dry sandpaper. Usually start with around 200-grit, and end with 800-grit. For polishing, Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish and a white t-shirt. With enough time, it will give a nice mirror finish and be as smooth as ice.
I think that's really cool, but it would only be fun to build- there would be zero satisfaction is buying one completely built.
This on the other hand:

Forget anything you know about BB guns, I got one and it is literally the 2nd coolest thing I've nonchalantly whipped out at a party.
Thanks! I would totally go to a store but it's like an all day trip (if I'm lucky) to a Seattle area archery shop from Port Townsend. But - the next time I go out there it's my first stop.
I've ordered a bunch of things from 3rivers thanks for the link.
I'm not shooting off the shelf - I have a cheap https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AVDAM which seems to be working OK.
I'll try to get over to Seattle soon and talk with the guys at The Nock Point ... they seem like a solid shop http://www.thenockpoint.com/
MTM is my go-to brand for ammo storage containers. Since I'm not one of those folks who absolutely has to have metal ammo cans, I appreciate the low price and light weight of MTM's stuff, and they're easily the sturdiest plastic ammo cans that I've handled. I've got three of their larger ammo cans that I use for storage, as well as one of their .50 caliber ammo cans for transporting ammo to the range. It looks like a few of MTM's products are going for discounted prices at the moment, so if you're curious, now would be a good time to give them a shot.
There is a company on Amazon that sells AR-15 skins. They come in one huge roll of fabric so you have to cut it yourself but its fairly easy, only of few hours of actual work but it also is padded a little to protect it from being dropped. Hope this is what you were looking for!
he looks pretty happy at the moment so it's probably just a relocation thing. from the pictures it looks like he doesn't have stress marks and his beard is looking pretty white.
I started bathing my baby beardie after a couple of days ownership, and I usually do it every day, or at least every couple of days. the trust just takes time. if you approach him and he opens his mouth then leave him be, if he doesn't, then go for it ant try take him out the enclosure for a bit. the little ones LOVE to explore, just got to be careful to keep a watchful eye on them at all times.
like others have said, you might want to consider putting a hide or some fake plants in there, they like climbing too.
i'm in the uk so i don't know how relevant these pages will be to you, but I decorated my tank with some fireproof camo netting and some fake plants like these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002YJU6PO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004LRHCKE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use RCBS small base 300blk dies. Very happy with them. I used them to convert a ton of 5.56 brass and reload, etc.
I like RCBS and Hornady. RCBS will send you free parts if you ask.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4S9XDW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Have you ever reloaded rifle brass before?
Dies, Primers, Powder, Bullets, Brass!
I use RCBS Dies (Small Base)

Powder: I find my gun LOVES Win296 19gn for 110g Hornady VMAXX.. I have tried other powders and non perform like this for me. it works great for both the 110's and the Nosler 125's.. I have loaded a few Nosler 150BT's, they were fine too..
Also, Go to Harbor freight and get this..
http://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-mini-bench-top-cut-off-saw-62136.html
Then look on Amazon or Ebay for a jig and make your own brass.. That will make your life easy as hell.
I use the Wheeler Set. I would also suggest the Starter Punch from CGW for the more stubborn pins. If you don't have a bench block I would get one of those too. A universal bench block will work fine but I would get the CZ Bench Block to make things a bit easier.
For polishing, some 600 grit, 1000 grit and 2000 grit sandpaper and some diamond stones from brownells would work just fine. Just follow the guides carefully and don't take too much metal off of the crucial areas.
Something I suggest to everyone who asks about cold weather, go to an army surplus store and ask for what’s called a “smoking jacket”. Makes a great base layer, I got issued one when I was in and you can’t beat it.
Or maybe eBay it, either way you’ll love it and it’s probably 30-40 bucks
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/Military-Outdoor-Clothing-Previously-Issued/dp/B00XRHC8O4
That’s the one boss
This one looks pretty much like the one that I have. There are others on Amazon that are a little cheaper and look like they might be a little bit more refined, like this.
Hmm, I haven’t experienced that issue yet, and I’ve been feeding mine all sorts of ammo from across the spectrum.
As far as sights go I purchased these back in June and I really like them. Easy to see orange dot during the day and bright glow at night, but I also like the blacked out rear sight set up.
I've found that in additional to Oil, some good cold blue will stop rust from coming back, but it needs to be in an area where its not hitting moving parts. I'll link you below to the absolute best cold blue i've ever used.

Here's the link. Pretty damn creative and impressive, OP - I need to get some for myself
What price range are you looking for? Do your parents generally spend over $100 on your for gifts?

Here are some basic ideas:
You could also add basic stuff like batteries, lighters, power bars, trash bags, first aid supplies and other consumables.

Other items are harder to pick without know more details...
Given it's age, I would say 'no'. But it would be perfectly fine with one of these in the chamber:
https://www.amazon.com/Tipton-Snap-Caps-380-ACP/dp/B0048KIRVM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484345199&sr=8-1&keywords=380+snap+cap
BTW, being that this is your first gun, have you had any instruction in safe storage/safe handling, and in the legal issues around using a firearm for self defense? It can be a bit complicated and it's not the sort of thing you want to do the wrong way.
I used this with these threads
Also Scavenger pro, Sleight of Hand pro, marathon pro, ak74u rapid fire was the shit
http://www.amazon.com/MTM-Round-Gauge-Shotshell-Black/dp/B000VE4Q28/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1394214002&sr=8-3&keywords=12ga+shell+tray
It holds 10 ML bottles perfectly and I don't worry about knocking anything over when adding stuff to the bottles.
Yes, it will xome in handy. Get yourself one of these or better yet the whole kit that comes with lapping bars and everything.
I use this with some ghillie threading. It is very light and breathable. I also live in California and it works great
Thanks! Amazon for about $12: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046C94TQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Watch as many youtube videos on grip, stance, and trigger pull as you can. You can get snap caps and practice your trigger pull by dry firing too. Practice what you would do in your home if you needed to defend yourself. Run through scenarios in your mind and think about how you would react to them.
Practice is key and you don't necessarily need to go to the range and spend money on ammo to build good muscle memory etc...
Welcome to the community
I just looked these up. First one that came up was on Amazon and shipped and sold by them. The only picture had a Trijicon front sight. Lol

Yeah, seriously. Most everything on that list is cheaper or the same price if you already have Prime. Is OP having a clearance sale at their LGS or something? Can OP guarantee 2-day shipping?
EDIT: in case OP runs out

what is the recruit wearing? some sort of poncho liner jacket?
looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Military-Outdoor-Clothing-Previously-Issued/dp/B00XRHC8O4/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_bs_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=E1JK2WEK1X67DBSYD59S
This one is OK, 3/5:
https://www.amazon.ca/Allen-Company-Carbon-Cleaning-32-Inch/dp/B00TY41KI4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1
I don't think it is the same, except in general appearance. Actual Parkerizing seems much better than the stuff I used.
How did you get the handlebar treatment done?
Get a scope install kit with inch-pound driver. Tighten the mount to manufacturer specifications.
https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Scope-Mounting-Combo-1-Inch/dp/B002PQKGSI#immersive-view_1558024450666
I am also a huge fan of blue loctite on threads on scope base and rings. I’m sure someone will tell me why I’m wrong to do so.
That's not me in the picture lol. But I received the blue one. Comes without a rest, and I just ordered this one yesterday. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AVDAM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Might I suggest this box to store your batteries and possibly a charger if you drill a hole for the cord? I linked a blaze orange one, because it will seem less sketchy if you get pulled over. (Knock on wood. Hopefully you won't get pulled over.)
The red dot has an etched reticle, so it works without power. I don't like lower 1/3rd co-witness, and was having trouble finding a sight that I liked that would also absolute co-witness (plus I'm still new to this and dunno how to oper8 as well as some people) so I settled on this.
Maybe he was talking about something like this GunSkins AR-15/M4 Rifle Skin Camouflage Kit DIY Vinyl Wrap with precut Pieces (Victory from Proveil Camo) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJW9P1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_R6cUzb8HXEVK7
Hahahaha nooo it’s like this long fabric tube. Someone In here introduced them to me. link
Would something like this work?
Vortex Optics Spitfire AR 1x Prism Scope with DRT (MOA) Reticle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AWB2UHW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SpN3Ab0QZXW52
Is there a permit required for carrying something like this? (Really could be any object that is heavy, hard, and allows swinging.)
Do you have a model number handy?
I'm starting to look for something for my sport II and....options. Options everywhere. Too many options.
And conflicting information.
Here's the Vortex Optics Spitfire AR 1x Prism Scope with DRT (MOA) Reticle
https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optics-Spitfire-Prism-Reticle/dp/B01AWB2UHW/
The text says, "Will NOT work with VMX-3T Magnifier"
But...
Frequently bought together:
This item:Vortex Optics Spitfire AR 1x Prism Scope with DRT (MOA) Reticle $249.00
Vortex VMX-3T Magnifier with Flip Mount $163.00
Not that I need a 3T magnifier, but still... at this point I just want to hear someone with a Sport II say, Hey, this is a good starter optic that works well on a Sport II and it should cost between $X and $Y.
Otherwise, I'll still be sitting here trying to make a decision when the feds come around confiscating.
Now you have
I have one of these. They are awesome. I have a reflex site, pistol foregrip, and laser on it. I killed a possum with a couple of bursts. Highly recommend it.
Camo-netting makes great shade and lets most of the wind blow through, so you're much less likely to suffer grommet failure and flapping tarp.
Attach it to something very solid on your vehicle and use something to protect your vehicle's finish if the ropes touch it (or might touch it). Some of the guys in our camp wrap the ropes in pool noodles for that reason.
mudclub is right. Don't waste valuable shade by putting a yurt under it.
I use this sight pusher. The nice thing with that one is that all the surfaces that touch the gun are plastic, so the chance of it scratching up the finish are pretty low. The pusher you linked to requires toy be very careful not to scratch up your gun and new sights.
RCBS makes both taper and roll crimp seaters. Usually roll crimps are used for revolver rounds; for 300 Blackout you'd want the taper crimp seater. You can get it [bundled with the small-base resizing die] (http://www.amazon.com/RCBS-300-Blackout-Taper-Crimp/dp/B00B4S9XDW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8).
Check the model number. It is SPR-200.
this is pretty much what you want to put your scope on: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PQKGSI/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I drop oil in the hole and some on the roll pin. Then i use pliars to pinch the end of the roll pin so it starts easier, then I just give it a few good whacks until it can stand in it's own.
Then I use a [Wheeler bench block] (https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-672215-Universal-Bench-Block/dp/B0047WKF84) and support the end of the barrel with a towel or whatever, just so the gas block will sit solidly on the bench block.
Then whack away with some punches...not too hard.

I used these long roll pin punches:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WADKN0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and this bench block so I had room to punch the pins the whole way.

also a lightning deal on the torque wrench with scope bedding kit.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PQKGSI?psc=1 - $62.99
i was tempted to get the scope kit, but most of my scopes are 1 piece mounts so i dont think it is really necessary.
RCBS has $10 rebate for the next few days.
Here are some I've tried recently.

Seahorse Waterproof boxes are as good or better then Pelican at a substantially cheaper price. I have one bigger one for medicine storage and one bolted on the back of my Kawi 250. ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/201452035165)
Do NOT go with these... Damn are they crappy.

I got one for $5 or whatever and then got an Ultra box 307....that Ultrabox is so heavy duty. It's about 6x3x3 inches.
Tictac container to fill Magic Flight Box!I
Can't forget tightvac.
Nah, this hood with thread tied on
This is what I use. Can hold a couple rolls, clips to a belt, and doubles as a weapon for kicks.
DeSantis City Slicer Coin Purse, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJYPHXI/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_LvvhDbFA7WV1W
For DIY I would suggest a sight pusher.
An amateur using a vice, drift, and hammer could become catastrophic.
Also, you dont need to spend $200. This one works just fine for me.
https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Scope-Mounting-Combo-1-Inch/dp/B002PQKGSI
I got it on sale for $60 I think, the major item though is the in lbs torque wrench and that is normally $50 on its own.
Also, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND YOU DIDNT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LBS AND IN TORQUE?! DUDE! SHAME!
