• I would use a combination of things. Hand claws to climb around stealthy, and throwing knives to perform an assassinate someone from a short distance.
  
• Honestly, I'm not one to assassinate somebody, but when I play AC I like to get my targets from a distance. I usually throw a poison dart at one, and then eliminate any witnesses by hanging them with a rope dart. Part of being an assassin is stealth, and if you can do something without being seen you can get away easily. Throwing knives, darts, spikes are good if your aim is precise because they allow you to get somebody from a distance, usually short range. If you get somebody from above, your thrown object can gain more velocity, and you have a better shot at their vital points. So, really, the hand claws and knives have to go together.
  
• Another method would be to use ricin powder. Breaking Bad taught me that its effects are cold like, and within a couple days the target is dead, and no trace is detected.
  
  I've wanted to play Dishonored since I heard about it. Money has been tight, though, and I haven't been able to buy any video games.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm pretty certain you aren't sitting on a gold mine there, but it also isn't the worst quality (which would have no visible wavy line down the blade). Get yourself a blade cleaning set from Amazon if you haven't already to keep it at its best.
A little research suggests that the rust on the tang is a good sign (older swords tend to accumulate more rust).

Gonna jump onto gabedamien's comment for a moment here.

You can buy a AISI 1045 carbon steel katana, for $50 USD off Amazon right now. THAT is how common "functional" swords are available these days.

So if you want a "true" katana, as in something that looks like one, you can draw and swing around, and proudly hang on your wall or carry around with you, there you go.

As Gabe said, art-grade nihonto with the patterned hamon and the silk wrappings and the authentic look of everything vary in price and are actually affordable to the general public. It's just like buying a painting or a sculpture, only you get a sword instead.

The zombies ate my brains yet I was able to come up with a couple items:

• Cricket Bat - not necessarily unusual thanks to Shawn of the Dead, but unusual to own in the US. Would be great for smashing heads.
  
• Sickle - not quite as good for range, but would be good for beheading.
  
• A Spear would be good to keep them at range and run less risk of a bite.
  
• You could be a badass like Tyrese in the Walking Dead comic and use a regular old Claw Hammer
  
• Some leather forearm guards would be good for reducing your chance of a bite while using any melee weapons.
  
• You could also go all Dead Rising and carry around a stack of traffic cones to slap on their heads...

That last one’s pretty cheap compared to the others, so it’s really only good as a display. If you want to get something really authentic, though, I’d probably recommend looking up some blacksmiths and seeing what they can do.

Those are made of 1045 Steel - 1045 is not to bad but also definitly not great - but you could actually swing it since it's also full tang. have to define legit. they are "real" but made with stainless steel and not sharpened. basically just for decoration. so it is a "real" sword made of metal and all but if you ever tried to use it the blade would probably bend immediately. if you want something sharp and less likely to bend i would recommend one of these (www.amazon.com/Classic-Crane-Handmade-Samurai-Katana/dp/B002WGEE48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412802756&sr=8-1&) just a little more expensive. not bleach related but you can feel like its your own Zanpakuto. P.S a tip in sword quality when looking at lower prices is any kind of carbon blade like this is a huge step above stainless steel, its basically what makes it a usable sword. not masterfully made but is sharp, less likely to bend, and made to last longer than display blades.
