If you are going to play ETS2 or ATS, get an SKRS. This is the one I use, and it is amazing. Pricey, sure; But it is amazing quality, and it really adds to the experience: https://www.amazon.com/Shifter-Replacement-Logitech-Thrustmaster-EasyJakeBrake-Windows/dp/B07DVW2WYK/ref=sr_1_16?keywords=skrs&qid=1573415326&sr=8-16

I have a 96 ext cab 4.3v6 Auto that came with the two piece and double cardan. I was experiencing horrible noise and vibration and ended up replacing the carrier bearing and the double cardan half of the shaft with this unit from Amazon.

I've had it in there for over a year on a truck that's lowered 4" all around(pinion angle corrected). It's been on a few road trips totaling over a 1,000 miles and has seen plenty of runs up to the speed governor(95mph), sometimes holding 90mph+ for many miles.

My personal experience with it has been really great. I have no basis to a good stock unit but it was a dramatic improvement over the one I had in it. Vibrations and noise virtually zero and there seemed to be a difference in throttle response as well.

This was a direct bolt in and go. I changed it out over a couple hours in the driveway with some help.

If this place still insists on that price I would suggest replacing it yourself either with the unit I linked or a stock replacement.

Yup! You get the “teeth grinding” feeling. Buy one of these:

PERRIN Shifter Stop Compatible with Subaru WRX 2015-2017 and 2018-19 WRX with OEM Short Shifter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019D8RK5W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ORxKDbZWJJYPF

Very easy install. It def helps but doesn’t eliminate it entirely. It really tightens up the shifting. Also, get yourself a weighted shift knob (400 grams +) and that will also help!

Edit: adding link to install vid that I used. Hope this helps!

You can check which ECU you have(or swap it if need be) in 5 min. It's located under the passenger side kick panel, it's that small panel under the gloveback and right next to the door. If I recall correctly I think you should have a P2E ECU, there should be some kind of ID sticker on the ECU that will tell you this.

If this isn't the problem, two things to check are your ignition timing($50 or so at a shop) and the IACV(idle air control valve), disassembling and cleaning the IACV is relatively easy, I'd do this first as it's common for them to get dirty.

As far as clutch changes, I'd recommend an exedy kit, this is what Honda used for the oem clutches and will save you a bundle over buying parts at the dealer. Something like this should be fine: http://www.amazon.com/EXEDY-08022-OEM-Replacement-Clutch/dp/B001B5DCO4/ref=au_pf_ss_1?ie=UTF8&Make=Honda%7C59&Model=Civic%7C752&Year=2000%7C2000&carId=002&n=15684181&s=automotive Then don't forget to have your flywheel resurfaced before you put it back together.

I love my Marmot Precips with a lightweight pair of thermal underwear underneath if it's cold. Not super warm, but cheap and layerable and ive done -20c without complaint.

Btw I find the best thing to patch rips in your weather layer is Jeep softtop repair kit.

It is a good and worthwhile upgrade.

There are tons of forum threads about this.

It's mainly about:

  • Make or buy a cross member to support rear of trans (4L80e is one long SOB)
  • If you run a pre LS 80e/conveter you will need a nose extender or different flywheel. https://www.amazon.com/Torque-Converter-Adapter-Spacer-Made/dp/B0767NT31G
  • Getting new driveshaft made
  • repin the 4l60e connector and segment swap PCM to control the 80e (last bit can be optional depending on who you talk to)
  • plumbing lines for cooling the ATF

You may also need to make sure the PCM has all the correct signals before it will command converter lockup.

Two tips for your WRX mate:

1. Perrin shifter stop. It'll make shifting so much better feeling. It eliminates the shifter gate slop that's prevalent from the factory.

2.. If you aren't worried about tuning, a tune goes a hell of a long way in these cars. It literally made a night and day difference in the way mine drives. The throttle-by-wire system in the WRX is very touchy in stock form. 30% throttle pretty much equals 100%. Tuning eliminates that, and gives you a natural pedal travel. Not to mention the stock tune is just junk.

Anyways, have fun, and welcome to the Subaru family!

200K miles on a gearbox with original transmission fluid is absolutely incredible.

Im sure it was changed once or twice. But that said, it couldnt hurt to spend $80 in fluid and a filter and try and replace it.

Its almost as easy as doing an oil change on the car.

Edit:

Filter

Yeah it's not real obvious since they leave the decimal out, so it's easy to miss, especially if the tag is covered in grime.

The carrier holds the ring gear in place and also houses the spider gears which allow the axle shafts to turn at independent speeds from each other when not traveling in a perfectly straight line. 3.73-up just means it will accept all ratios from 3.73 and higher (4.10, 4.56, 4.88...I think max for our D30 is 5.13?) personally I wouldn't go beyond 4.56; any tire needing 4.88 is going to be very large and just getting a beefier axle is a better idea than trying to over-modify the D30 to accommodate such a size.

https://www.amazon.com/Yukon-YCD706008-Differential-Carrier-Case/dp/B0078UASUM/

The sluggishness is also putting extra strain on the transmission, which will shorten its life since the fluid is running hotter. It will love you for re-gearing. Do a fluid drain and refill (Dexron/Mercon, not ATF) after your re-gear as it's likely lost some of its viscosity and thermal properties.

u/regular-toes · 1 pointr/WranglerTJ

It's likely this. I have the same problem. There's an easy way to know for sure. If you hear the noise, press down or pull up on the 4WD shift selector and it should go away temporarily. Usually it comes from a worn bushing and won't effect anything other than banging around and making noise. I bought this kit to repair it but I never got around to actually installing it. I've kind of gotten used to it. I just push in of pull out the selector a little bit when it gets on my nerves.

However, I have read from some people that sometimes they will slip out of 4WD from this problem. Drive around somewhere safe in 4WD a bit to see if there's some slippage. If that's your case, then you should definitely repair it.

Cable bracket bushings: https://www.cjponyparts.com/steeda-transmission-cable-bracket-bushing-set-focus-st-2013-2018/p/5557061/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImZ2Xwtq93QIVguNkCh3w4gzmEAQYASABEgIU-vD_BwE

The only reason I link these are because they interlock. other companies use a glorified flat washer that's a little awkward to keep together while installing(helped a buddy install a set of em). These steeda ones are just easier.

Cable end bushings: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018UM41XG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_WLvNBbM8DVHF2

These are what I bought. Excellent machining, easy install but the Mountune ones are essentially the same thing. Pick between the two depending on who's sticker you want.

u/ExpressErnieDavis · 1 pointr/personalfinance

From what you described, your car is in need of a clutch replacement. A clutch replacement does not cost anywhere near $2k, in fact I just looked up the parts on Amazon and a clutch kit + flywheel + new tranny fluid is $146.
https://www.amazon.com/EXEDY-08014-OEM-Replacement-Clutch/dp/B001B5DC9O/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Honda%7C59&Model=Accord%7C751&Year=1999%7C1999&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&newVehicle=1&s=automotive&vehicleId=10&vehicleType=automotive

Even though you say you're not handy, it's worth watching a few clutch videos on youtube so that you'll be somewhat informed when talking to the mechanic.

As a DIY mechanic, I could replace a clutch by myself in a day in the driveway as food for thought.

Good luck!

I got my replacement kit off Amazon (2004 6s) and paid under $200 for part. Here is what I found for you. Good luck

u/ObscureObelisk · 2 pointsr/subaru

Thanks for the diagram! So I found this kit on Amazon and I wasn't sure if it's the right one but it appears to be. Then I was just going to get an OEM linkage like this one. Now I found the pivot bushings here is that all the parts I need?

u/mph9673 · 1 pointr/subaru

That is the one, pretty much a OEM replacement. When I had my NA legacy I used the stage 1 kit 15801 and it took care of a cold clutch judder I was having with the stock unit. I drove that clutch HARD for 70,000 miles and it still grabbed like the day I had it installed. It is a little pricer at $320 but worth it if you can swing it.

u/naeblis1911 · 1 pointr/fordranger

Is this what you mean? Amazon says it'll fit. I'm certain mine is a 8.8 and 31 spline.

u/alwayzthinkin · 1 pointr/MechanicAdvice

So much money something thats not totally trashed. I believe this is a 4L60E, so more than likely its the 2-4 band which will also require a new reverse input drum ($100). With this I would just do a whole new clutch kit for $300 that comes with better Alto clutches. Are you mechanically inclined enough to pull the trans yourself and install it after rebuild? That would save you a bunch of money. I would also ask if you could provide the kit as you dont want some cheap no name clutch packs being installed.

Awesome indestructible motor keep oil in it... just add it why are you going to fix a little leak. If it’s the rear main pit this stuff in it https://www.amazon.com/ATP-AT-205-Re-Seal-Stops-Bottle/dp/B000NVW1LM/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr2_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1543451340&sr=8-2-fkmr2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=engine+seal+restorer

u/ray_r86 · 2 pointsr/WRX

I got both the bushing and shift stop from Amazon due to prime and cheaper price.

The Invidia R400 is louder at cold starts and its a deep sound. At idle, it sounds stock. Below 2.5k rpm is not too loud and but does get louder at higher rpms. I do love the deep bass sound. I typically try to shift below 3k rpm when leaving my Apt community in the morning. Wife says her 18 Stock Mustang 5.0 is still louder :/

u/LolYouFuckingLoser · 3 pointsr/CrownVictoria

Not OP but I found this on Amazon and it looks like it's the same one https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-265-813-Transmission-Drain-Plug/dp/B00NF1PT8O

OP did you get a new seal or reuse the one that was there?

u/78sts · 3 pointsr/Miata

If the oil can only be traced from the ground/drip back up to the trans housing (not up to the CAS or valve cover gasket), then you are looking at rear main seal or trans front seal and there's no good way to tell without taking stuff apart. Depending on your ability to identify fluids, consider that clutch slave cyls often leak and check that.

I have, however, worked some minor miracles with this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/ATP-AT-205-Re-Seal-Stops-Bottle/dp/B000NVW1LM At the very least it doesn't deteriorate the seals further like some gimicky products do. And for me it has actually worked.

u/highlord_fox · 2 pointsr/CrownVictoria

I don't remember. I'm fairly sure it's a Dorman Products 265-813, but remember to cross-check that with model/year/transmission. Probably Amazon.

u/preaneary · 3 pointsr/4Runner

You can try something like this and going to a heavier weight conventional oil (Lucas 85-140). It could wreck your car though. If you have a high mileage car you should probably learn how to fix it...Mechanics won't have the time for it and they often screw things up.
