Looks like your amazon wishlist already has some good stuff in it! Prepping is a hobby of mine too and I'm always looking for tips and things from other people so thanks for bringing this up! I will actually probably borrow a few of your wishlist items for my own!

I'm only a novice prepper, but I'd like to offer some thoughts about a few of your selections. Feel free to take it or leave it!

This sewing kit could be bought at a dollar store, instead of paying $15 via that listing. I also recommend putting together a small sewing kit yourself. The stuff that comes in tiny 'travel' packs like this are very weak and flimsy. I've used these travel sewing kits before and the needles and thread break easily, and the mini scissors are pretty laughable too. In real emergency situations you'll likely want dependable stuff.

Same kinda thing with this first aid kit. You can buy one that has most of these things for a dollar as well, and supplement it with the things it doesn't have with things you'd realistically want or use.

A fair warning about this cart. I've used one of the same design (for grocery shopping) and it fell apart pretty easily after regular use. If you'd only be using it for bugging out situations, I would like to recommend this dolly. This one I used up until I discovered Uber/Lyft for my grocery shopping trips with heavy cases of soda among bags of groceries and it is certainly more heavy duty than the one I used previously. The bigger wheels made a huge difference I think for going over terrain thats anything besides flat sidewalk. Or if you wanted to take it a step even further this one looks neat but may not be practical in all situations. They say that in general the more moving parts, the more flimsy it is.

I see you already have some solar charging gear on your list, but please allow me to recommend this lovely little device. I bought this power bank/solar charger combo for myself after searching a fair bit around for the best bang for my buck. I'm not really too tech/solar savy but until someone convinces me otherwise this thing is a steal. The flashlight on it was far brighter than I expected, and I keep it in my personal bag with me wherever I go. I absolutely recommend this for not only your bug out bag but for everyday use/traveling!

And finally, I haven't gotten this one yet, and I'm not too sure on what a acceptable brightness/lumen would be, but I like this usb charging flashlight for the fact that it could be charged using the previously mentioned solar chargers, in case traditional outlet charging isn't an option. :)

Best of luck to you, and check out /r/preppers too if it suits your interest!

Edit: Whoops I messed up on the formatting, sorry to anyone who had to see that!

We've moved quite a bit in the last few years. Here's our preference.

  1. Bankers boxes. These are tough boxes that are not too large. Plus the have nice spots to label them. We write the contents of everything contained within the box on the box. You likely won't have time. Do yourself a favor and get some colored circle dot stickers. Each color represents a room. When you're done loading them, put a color on them. When you get to the new place, use those same stickers to label each room (e.g. put a red dot on the bathroom mirror). Makes it easy to move boxes in.
  2. A nice dolly. I generally recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cosco-Aluminum-Truck-Assisted-wheels/dp/B00HOGSOPG (you can get it at a Costco Business Center for about $80)
  3. Something like this for your furniture: https://www.amazon.com/9850-Carpeted-20-Inch-30-Inch-Capacity/dp/B000BD5I58/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=flat+dolly&qid=1550900979&s=hi&sr=1-18. Also get some of these: https://www.amazon.com/Thenewallhere-Adjustable-Shoulder-Furniture-Appliances/dp/B077GYQTSM/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=furniture+moving+straps&qid=1550901118&s=hi&sr=1-5
  4. We've always used Penske for our trucks. The other companies we tried always had some kind of a snag (didn't have a truck despite us having a reservation, hidden fees, breakdowns etc).
  5. If you don't have enough friends on either end of the move, use Dolly.com. In my experience, it takes twice as long to load as it does to unload.
  6. Buy a case of water at Costco and put a few Bankers boxes with essentials (toilet paper, toiletries towels, etc.) in the cab of your truck. Makes it easy to find when you're tired from moving.
  7. CREATE A SAFE SPACE. Commit to completely unpacking one room of your house entirely in the first few days. This becomes your escape from the rest of the house that will be messy for a long time. You'll thank me in a month or so.

Hi /u/Mcturtle101 - I recommend you book a few jobs while you're still in school with the equipment you have and use the money you earn to buy new gear instead of spending your startup capital before you have any income.

That said, when you're ready, you can set up a very capable 4K production studio with $5000. Here's how:

Hello /u/Terrence_Phallic - you should be able to put together an affordable production studio for £2500:

Camera

u/vigg-o-rama · 1 pointr/ReefTank

hey,

for starters, you should be able to find a 44 gallon brute. Then you could do at least 40 gallons. I have an older one, and a new one, and the older ones seem to be thicker more durable than the new ones (sadly). So, I might think about doing 2 of them. I also paid for a wheel dolly type attachment (they have them at home depot) to put the can on, this way I can make water in one part of the house, then slowly, gently push the can full to the tank to a water change.

Another option is to setup a tank in your garage or somewhere out of sight, and use that for mixing salt water and get a good pump and some tubing and run a long hose to the display tank. you should be able to pick up a used 75 gallon for WAY cheaper than a big plastic mixing tank. of course, this depends on where you live and what the weather is like, I couldnt do it here in florida, the water would get way to hot in my garage in 24 hrs.. but maybe you live somewhere cooler and could just use a heater on the tank?

If you dont like the idea of a glass tank, you could look at the rubbermaid water troughs for horses . they sell them at tractor supply for pretty cheap, i want to say like a 50 or 75 gallon for about a dollar a gallon..

I would guess you have a 75gpd membrane on your RO, that would mean it would take almost 12 hrs to make 35 gallons. sound about right? then maybe you need to do a piggy back RO, where you run the waste water from your first membrane into a second membrane. This should double your output if your pressure is good enough (check your pressure, I cannot do this in my setup, I only have 50psi at the membrane, and what i hear is that you need more like 60-65 to get the 2nd membrane to work right).

edit: some links, and forgot to mention, only use GRAY or WHITE (maybe yellow) brute containers, other colors are NOT food safe and can leach color into your water. They need to be "NSF42" I think, to be the right ones, the old ones were marked this way, and are used in the food service industry and are generally considered reef safe.

u/GreatLakesPrepping · 1 pointr/preppers

The short response to that question is "Because it's easier to just buy them". The longer response would be how I don't think I could make a caster base out of wood that I would be confident in to hold ~470 lbs of weight, that would also be short and narrow enough to fit in the spot I need it to fit. Welded steel was the way to go, by my assessment.

I got these, although when I bought them they were on sale for $54 apiece.

Looks like someone else is selling something nearly identical now for about $40. I might have to pick up a few more!

u/kabbage123 · 4 pointsr/videography

I'd go with something like this paired with something like this, and PVC for tracks. Great combo that's better than costlier alternatives

u/ArtieLimited · 7 pointsr/DIY

OP delivers!

We had originally considered purchasing a vehicle lift, but they were much more expensive, required a lot of headroom (the garage ceiling is only about 8'4" high), and would have required us to change the garage door tracks and opener to let it clear. This was a much simpler (and cooler) solution.

Many parts were purchase from Amazon, so I provided links so you can take a look.

Parts:

  • Winch

  • Pulley

  • Carabiners

  • Snatch blocks

  • Rope hoist

  • Hydraulic Vehicle Moving Dollies

  • 3/16 (840LB capacity) steel cable

  • Cable clamps

  • Cable 'eyes' (keeps the cable in a nice curve when going around the carabiners)

  • Lag bolts

    ==================
    Details:

I had access to the studs and rafters as we removed the drywall to remodel the garage, so I was able to use 2x4s and 2x12s to strengthen the areas where the eye hooks were secured.

I built these pivoting support blocks to keep the axle from taking any of the load. I put carpet on the blocks to keep them from scraping the new garage floor.

I use these dollies to position the trailer to be hooked up to the pivot blocks.

I use the rope hoist to make the raising and lowering of the trailer a one person operation. You need to pull the trailer away from the wall to get it to start lowering and also need to steady it on its way up so it doesn't fall into position too quickly.

Those come in pairs and you need two pairs. You can make oak 2x runners and connect two together to put under each side of the machine, or just figure out a way to attach it to a metal frame on the outside of the machine like in the other example. You don't want to be lifting it up too high by tilting the top. I'd imagine it to be a bit hard to control it once it starts tipping over.

Source: Flooring guy here. Have moved everything from thousand pound+ gun safes to concert pianos up and down stairs and in and out of rooms/houses.

The wheels on the other example are really only meant for light duty moving and you will trip over them at some point. Their usefulness is in being briefly used on occasion. Otherwise they are a pain in the ..... well they might be useful enough for you if your circumstances and patience permit, lol. They are way overpri....er, marketted to specific buyers willing to spend more money on them than....eh.... they might be perfect for home....users?

I went the cheap route and bought a cart on amazon with a seat. It was pretty simple to strap on my disc bag, a cooler, my camel bak and everything else I need. here is the one I bought.

I can upload pics if you want.

I love it, it is a little heavy fully loaded but better than having to set down my bag before every shot, and there is often a lot of waiting at tournaments, so I got the one with a seat.

u/Lightning_Matt · 2 pointsr/Adulting

Buy a portable dishwasher and a dolly to put it on. Okay, yeah it's going to cost about $300 total, but personally it's the best $300 I ever spent (mine has been going since 2013 and I only have to wash the filter inside it on occasion).

It hooks into the sink, it's relatively small and will fit even in the smallest kitchen. I had the same exact problem as you. If your landlord says anything, remind them you are saving them money by using a dishwasher, not to mention it's more hygenic. I am on my feet for 10 hours a day and I can't be arsed to do dishes after a long, busy shift at work.

u/neuter · 1 pointr/pics

Ah, thank you. I thought he meant the pusher.

I found what I assume are the dollies on Amazon for $80 a pop. I think US$300+ is a good value for something you can use on a daily basis here in Michigan.

u/disgustipated · 2 pointsr/answers

Not that simple. Many heads and amps are heavy for a reason, they really can't be lightened without affecting quality of sound.

Instead, why don't you look into some type of transport help, like a fold-up dolly, something like this.

u/ToxDoc · 2 pointsr/cars

See if you can rent 4 of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000UAGDTC/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_60_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4H5S16244JGXTE3QS0K1

That thing will weight around 4500 lbs, so make sure yours are beefy enough and you want help from friends.

And bill him.

u/DanceWithYourMom · 5 pointsr/Tools

I worked junk removal for a year and a bit. You will want an appliance dolly, as well as a Four wheel dolly. But definitely something more stout then what I linked. Also garbage cans with wheels are a must for loose shit, though those were seen more as disposable, we usually acquired them from customers who were throwing them out.

The dolly you linked looks like it would not last long, and the one I linked is probably quite heavy. It's probably easier and less cumbersome to just carry the appliances or furniture down the stairs, we only really pulled out the appliance dolly for the really heavy things.

u/LearnerPermit · 3 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

Generally tow truck drivers know if a car is front or rear wheel drive, and will try and pick it up accordingly. Obviously there are some drivers who don't care and will pick up from whatever direction is easiest.

In a front wheel drive car, when the car is in park, a little arm in the transmission stops the gears and therefore the front wheels from spinning. Opposite for rear wheel drive. So drivers will pick up whichever is the drive wheel. I think hand brake is generally on the rear wheels.

In theory, a driver is supposed to use go-jacks to pull a car out of a parking spot and into the lane to get more room to put the dollies if necessary, or to hook up the correct side.

Tow truck drivers for impound yards often don't care, and will do whatever is easiest for them.

u/north7 · 59 pointsr/PeopleBeingJerks

If these were cheaper I'd keep a pair in my trunk for just such occasions.
Jack up the front wheels, swing the double-parker out perpendicular, and leave it that way. Cops will definitely take care of it then, and you are long gone.

u/dneiw · 2 pointsr/woodworking

As someone who does this regularly as a professional, I would definitely not feel comfortable using anything other than casters.

Everything else will eventually wear down and cause damage to either the floor or furniture or both.

Casters do not need to be permanently attached. They can be skates for example. Like these:

https://www.amazon.com/Crain-17-Skates-Furniture-Moving/dp/B00BC202A8

The plastic frictionless stick on pads only really work on carpet. You can get away with using them once or twice on smooth floors, but eventually they collect grit then tear huge gouges into the floor or through the pads. And it isn't uncommon for them to rip themselves off halfway through the moving slide.

Bolt file cabinets to a flat cart
http://www.amazon.com/S-P-Richards-Company-Platform-SPR02039/dp/B0017TF09Y
or movers dolly
http://www.amazon.com/Vestil-HDOC-1624-9-Hardwood-Carpet-Capacity/dp/B0052PMSD0

Then bolt file cabinets together for added stability.

Have shop class create wood slats so the laptops stand up in the file cabinet drawers, screw in through the metal side of the file cabinet drawer into the wood slats.

Cut holes for power cords, and protect sharp edges with duct-tape or office desk plastic grommet inserts.

Attach power strip with a long cord for charging.

Ghetto, but I think it would work nicely.

Noice! I'd say go with a nice 20gal heavy poly pot with a couple inches of gravel lining the bottom of the pot, topped by a couple inches of sand and Sandy soil for the rest. could screw it down to a 1000lb dolly from harbor freight or amazon

I wouldn't buy a overpriced manufacturer specific motorcycle dolley. I would look out for a general purpose dolley like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B006ZB8SCK/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all , and buy a separate front and rear stand that fits your bmw model if needed. All of this together should cost around 150$.

If you do have lots of money to throw around, then the linked product looks fine from a quality perspective.

u/Catatonic_waffle · 47 pointsr/cars

Somebody may be pranking you with rolling dollys/jacks like these. We had some of these in our auto program and would sometimes move students cars from the shop to the shop car storage area and then sit back and watch as they try and figure out how their locked car got moved. Fun times.

u/Demroth · 2 pointsr/arcade

As long as you don't need to navigate any steps, get a dolly. If you need to move it to another location, put cardboard over all the edges and wrap it in stretch wrap. Then move it with a hand truck that has a large base. You can do this alone, but is much easyer with another person.
