Here is what I changed:
CPU- The G4560 is a great budget CPU but you can easily do a much better CPU. The Ryzen 5 1600 is one of the best mid-ranged CPUs out there. While Intels i5 CPUs may perform better in gaming it is nothing significant and coupled with the fact that Ryzen CPUs perform better in productivity tasks for the most part and the fact that the 1600 has 6 cores/12 threads, Ryzen 5 CPUs have a much better value right now than Intel's i5 lineup. Here are some benchmarks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_spuDIs9Fo&t=883s. The vid is testing the Ryzen 5 1400 but the 1600 performs better anyways so expect about 5-15 frames more. Also the reason why the CPU and Mobo has custom prices is because Microcenter has a 50 dollar off bundle deal on the CPU/Mobo so definitely take advantage of that (mobo price is accounted for tax of the entire bundle). Here is the link to that: http://www.microcenter.com/site/products/amd_bundles.aspx. It'll be the center one under Ryzen 5 1600 of course.
Motherboard- Since we are going Ryzen a compatible motherboard is needed and the one above will get the job done just fine. Has plenty of I/O including USB 3.1, plenty of expansion/upgradability options like M.2 support and support for overclocking if you do change your mind in the future. Btw the motherboard you listed is way too expensive for that CPU and it's features will not be used fully mainly since the G4560 cannot be overclocked. Something along the price of the mobo I listed would be much better especially since it has the similar features.
Memory- Performance always comes first when building a PC. Sure that RAM model looks nice but is about 140 bucks, and even you can pay that the money would be better put into other parts of the build. Also 16 gigs of RAM is good but 8 gigs will be more than fine. As you can see here, there is almost no performance difference in many tasks when comparing 16 gigs of RAM and 8 gigs RAM: https://www.techspot.com/article/1043-8gb-vs-16gb-ram/. You can always add another 8 gigs anytime down the road too.
Storage- Is there a particular reason you need 3 TB? Seems like you are only gaming and you only listed 4 games. I don't even think you need 2 TB but I met in the middle anyways.
Video Card- Unless you already have that GPU, there is 0 reason to go for it in a new system to day. Not only does the GTX 1050 ti cost 50 bucks less, it performs much better. Here are some benchmarks comparing the 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJMiHF5jbvQ
Case- Same case, but if you really want some LEDs you can get a LED strip like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Autai-Remote-Control-Magnetic-Computer/dp/B01M9H6LCQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1499752816&sr=8-4&keywords=pc+led+strip. The included case fans are fine and air flow in that case seems very good from reviews so cooling won't be a problem especially if you aren't overclocking.
PSU- Slightly higher wattage for less. Fully Modular PSUs aren't worth it imo unless you are using custom sleeved cables and the case has good cable managment so even if there are extra cables with the semi-modular PSU, you can hide them no problem.
Keyboard/Mouse- Included one since you said you needed one but didn't put one in in your build.
Let me know if you have any questions! Even as I was typing out these explanations I was going back and forth between different parts figuring out what would be best as you didn't provide too much details on what you need so I can change this build depending on what exactly you want.
I like the backlighting. Just couldn't find anything affordable that supported Dolby Vision.
Ended up just getting this instead, since it's cheap and I just wanted to brighten up the TV a bit since my room is dark.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076X89GRW/
I ended up snowballing with my purchases going back to Spring.
What started off as a TV replacement for my bedroom, snowballed into a complete upgrade of my home theater from Spring 2018 to Winter 2019.
> Also this is my first time
Would it make you more comfortable if I lied to you and told you I'll be gentle?
Actually, for a budget build, and your first time it's not a bad start. Here's the issues I found:
> maybe a case with some sweet looking LEDS would be nice. if not thats cool
I think we can get you started on that... But you'll need to stretch the budget some.

Sure!
So, here are the parts/products I used (all from Amazon, and available for Prime delivery):
(And, of course, Michaels Baseball Bat Cases)
[Images are linked for appropriate descriptions below]
First thing was finding the proper distance between the cases for mounting on the wall -- I've seen a ton of other folks doing these in different ways, but the one thing that always bugged me was not taking advantage of using the case as a shelf also, and just doing one right under/over the other, and not leaving room to display other things (like the in-box ones I have there)... plus, it solves the next issue:
I wanted to use the same power & control for both cases (and have them linked together), but not have wires showing to link them... If I wasn't a renter, and knew this could be a permanent fixture, I would've popped holes in the wall to hide the cables, but since that's not an option, I used the in-box pops to hide the wire that runs from the bottom case to the one on top. I'm sure there are a number of other ways to accomplish the same thing, but this seemed like the best solution for me. Personally, I didn't care for the look of the LEDs running along the sides or the top of the cases, so I only ran a strip along the bottom of each case, saving some lights for some other random project down the road.
So, in both cases, I drilled holes into both of the back bottom corners, and then Dremel-ed one of them a bit to allow the main power supply link/adapter to fit inside the case (it's about a 1/2" across in rectangular shape).
The power comes from the wall below, which is behind a larger cube storage shelf, and the cable that leads into the bottom right of the lower case is 'hidden' behind that in-box Tony Stark.
I wired up the bottom case first, and at the end of the strip, set up a jumper from the strip to the extension cable, and threaded enough to reach the top case, which connects to the other strip, running in the opposite direction. Eventually, there'll be a third case above these, which is why I drilled the extra hole in the other corner of the top case, to be prepped for another extension wire to run to the third (once I pick another one up and figure out what to fill it with).
...That more or less covers it, I think. :)
Feel free to hit me up if you want any other info or pics, etc. It was frustrating at first, trying to figure out the easiest way to do what I had envisioned in my head, but it worked out in the end, so I'm pleased.
Good luck with yours!

A lot of the $30 - $50 mirrors that are readily available at Walmart, Target etc. are really not that great. They're better than nothing, but that's about it. If she's as into makeup as you say she is, she's going to want something properly bright. If you're looking for a makeup mirror with lights built in already, you're going to have to invest around $80 - $100. Instead, if she already has a mirror, you can just add LED lights around the perimeter, and it works better than most makeup mirrors. Definitely better than the $30-$50 ones.
Here's what I use: this LED strip + this power adaptor. It's super easy to install if she already has a mirror, and it is BRIGHT. It's cheap (around $40CAD), and SUPER functional. I can't recommend it enough. You can probably even get a different adaptor with a switch/dimmer.
I'm using this, but with a different AC adapter: http://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-Waterproof-Flexible-300leds-Changing/dp/B00ASHP1CM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412963572&sr=8-1&keywords=led+light+strip
Works great, super bright LEDs with variable brightness, colors and lighting modes. And cheap. Stick back on the strip that will attach to the glass and go up and down the sides. If you're OK with that, it is a great option. If not, then you want to hit up Ikea or amazon for lights that will stick to the tops or bottoms of each shelf.
As someone who lives in WA state where it already grey and dingy I still love my basement apartment and other basement apartments I've lived in. My current place is completely absent of natural lighting but it is always pretty dark and cold. I hate my overhead fluorescent lighting so I installed remote controlled rgb led strip lighting kinda like this. I lined the baseboards of my room and it gives nice controllable mood lighting. I also have a couple desk/reading lamps.
As for cozy I suggest rugs. I recently bought a large shag rug and can't imagine walking on the cold basement tile ever again. Also I suggest a cushy armchair or couch if you have room. I recently added a loveseat with giant cushions and even though I barely use my room feels way more like a room now. I'm a big fan of minimalist design but after living in so many basements that weren't originally intended to be bedrooms I found the right furniture (not just talking about beds) can make any room feel like a bedroom.
My last suggestion would be to get something on the wall. Like I said I like minimalism so I usually don't do posters or fancy wall decorations. However I found that large blank walls depress me just as much as no natural light, especially if the walls are white or grey. I usually put up a nice map or something that can stand on its own. In my current place though I just have one of the walls painted a nice deep dark crimson and it totally makes the simply because it adds color.
TLDR: RGB LED strip lighting is not to expensive and can transform the mood of any room as the push of a button on a remote.
Carbon rod. I joined the two pieces with a 3D-printed bushing around a ¼-20 stainless bolt, nesting into another 3D-printed bushing with a thermoset insert. This means that the staff can be broken down for storage or transport and that a camera can be mounted at half- or full-length.
LED strip.
This is the one that I used, but the radius of the rod is tight enough that the waterproofing rubber split and peeled off a bit. If I were making another one, I would go with the non-waterproof version. Either way, sheathing the whole pole in heat-shrink is probably a good move. I used this in 1-1/2 inch but smaller woul've worked.
To allow the staff to break in two and still work, I cut the strip and soldered on MT-30s via short wire leads. Worked great!
The camera is an insta360 One X. It's fine for what it is. Good for serious videography. The Samsung Gear 360 looks like a very nice, chesper alternative, and has video looping, so it'd be great in a "dashcam" role.
I'm not a fan of the Björksnäs, I find it better to have an all-glass cabinet as the entire collection is visible from any angle, and lighting is better. The frameless wallcase seems really nice, it's just up to you to decide if it's worth the price of 5 Detolfs in your eyes.
The LED strip lights are perfect for a figure collection and really easy to install. You just have to stick it to your cabinet and cut at the designated spots to the desired length. The most common setup is to stick it to the sides of your cabinet, it's easy and provides homogeneous lighting. However, although it's up to personal preference, i would maybe recommend the warm white version instead of the daylight white version .
I have tried both, and the daylight white seemed to blue-ish in my eyes while the warm white was more natural.
You can see how it looks here.
Hey, so I'm working on a project right now using led strips. I'm not using neopixels specifically but these that I found on Amazon. Anyways, the ones I got came with a clear protective rubber tubing which do a good job of keeping the strip in place and protects from bumping into stuff.
If Neopixels come with the same tubing, I think they'd be perfectly fine. The strips probably wont swing and move as much as if you used them without the tubing, but as long as you attach them to pvc really securely and seal the other end of the tubing you cut it should hold up!

Here you are.
RAM: 8GB from a good brand, all you need to run every game you want.
Storage: As you asked 120gb ssd + 1tb hdd.
Video card: This beast will run almost every game with ultra-details at 1080p.
Case: Great case to build in. Nice and clean design, and it's pretty small for an ATX case. Sadly it's pretty hard to go smaller than this with a full-ATX motherboard like yours. :\
PSU: All the power you need, fully modular, very reliable. Seasonic is always great :)
Monitor: Full HD, 27", IPS, very small bezel. Should do the work :)
LEDs: I added a led strip. The link is from amazon, but you can buy it wherever you want. The case has a window so you'll see your machine in all its glory!
Not OP but if you want a recommendation on an RGB led strip I just bought this one and really like it. It's crazy good value for the price. Really strong magnets and bright leds with a remote too.

If you get some RGB, make sure its out of sight. You just want that ambient glow. Amazon has very cheap option for lighting that controls through your phone , turns on and off at a certain time. ( good for sleeping if you are in the same room) .
https://amzn.to/2TtHHEJ - Light Strips
https://amzn.to/2z7E3qZ - Really awesome bulbs , very cheap, better than HUE
When things settle down for me too, maybe :) money's tight but eventually if theyre still there when i can, i will.
We also bought the connector clips (so it can bend around corners and stuff), extra wire (for extra length), and connector ends (for the extra wire).
The whole thing is super easy and quick to put up! As a warning, the peel and stick backing isn't good at all, so i would recommend buying stuff to help it stay. We used sticky tack since it doesn't hurt the surface so we can take it off if we need to. We left it on a long time (6 hours) and it barely heated up at all. Just about as warm as a starbucks coffee cup. As long as it's not on all the time it shouldnt heat up at all
I use to have LED lights (90W LED grow light, 2 inches above my cactus) and they were pretty happy, except the pinkish blue color really hurts my eye and make my room like Christmas year round. I switched to a 125W CFL and a 4x 24w T5HO (both around 10000lm, 2-3 inches above the plant). so far I couldn't tell the difference other than a couple dollar more in power bill and a lot more pleasant light.
none of my cactus etiolated under those lights yet (4 months under LED and 2 under CFL/T5HO) so far I like the CFL better because I can upgrade it to a 200w/switch the spectrem to red easily to induce flower. but that sum up all the experience I have with lights, hopefully it helps
Well now that super blows. Idk man. I’ve seen people with good results using stuff like this But I have no experience in that department. Maybe you could get away with it since its like the rope style, which is a very popular led style the world over?

I bought a DreamScreen just before they went out of business permanently.
A friend saw it and bought this knockoff on Amazon. It’s not quite as good but works well enough. And as an added bonus it doesn’t care what the input is - the lights are solely based on what’s on the screen.

Thanks! I used these NXZT 1m LED strips. They were very easy to install and use, but you need a free PCIE slot (like where you'd mound a GPU). For $12, it is easily a bargain compared to $8 for 30cm of LEDs.
Edit: PCIE Slot, not backplate.
Sorry about the side pane cracking. Mine is only flush against the cable -- it is not being warped. The 960 were frequently too tall for the air 240.
Yeah, from the looks of it, your LED strip is a "dumb" RGB, in that each color channel, ie Red, Green, and Blue, each gets its own voltage line, along with a fourth ground wire. This means that the WHOLE strip will always be the same color based on whatever voltage is coming from your controller.
In my experience, all of the music reactive controllers are built to control addressable LED strips, most commonly of the WS2812B variety.
In order to connect your current controller to a usable strip, you'll need to buy an addressable strip like this one
I highly recommend checking out the adafruit LED tutorial. The whole world of LEDs can get pretty overwhelming pretty fast, but once you have a solid understanding of electrical currents, circuitry, and LED formats, you'll find yourself taking on increasingly ambitious projects!!
If you need any other pointers or suggestions on where to start looking, please shoot me a DM any time :D
I used led light strips from amazon to help with my light. LE 300 SMD 5050 LEDs Flexible Strip Lights, 6000K Daylight White, Non-waterproof, 12 Volt, Indoor Party Christmas Holiday Festival Celebration Home Decoration 16.4ft https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JQV6Q4I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_k6lQAbC1AT23Y They put out the same color light as the soft box and ring light.
What do look for when it comes to affordable case lights? There doesn't seem to be a go-to brand other than Hue, but I don't need a ton of features, mostly just interested in bright white LEDs with easy installation.
EDIT:
Just ended up getting one of these, I don't really have the spare card slots to mount it, but I should be able to figure it out.
Right now I have three of these, they're dirt cheap and it really shows in the construction quality (cheap plastic, fiberboard back, zero waterproofing, included hanging wires are useless) but they work extremely well and the cons are pretty easily overcome. I have mine mounted with small zip ties to the underside of the shelf above the growing area which keeps it safe from water and damage and removes the need for the crappy mounting wire. The oldest one has been on 14 hours a day for four months and is working as well as the day I got it. Here's my new seedling set up that is a slight improvement over the one that produced the plants shown right now I have Droseras finlaysoniana, venusta, tokianesis, Filiformis red, auriculata, hookeri, Nidiformis, Capensis, and burmannii either germinating or as small plants and will be sewing binata, Capensis wide leaf, and intermedia cuba next week, plus I have a tray of ~50 sensitive plants, 8 dancing plants, 15 drosyphylum, and a couple desert rose seeds all germinating in a greenhouse. The plan is to sell most of the drosera at the end of the summer if they're big enough and make back some of what I've spent collecting.
While the sarcastic remarks are accurate, you can try different smart LED and dynamic contrast settings to see if any improve things. You may need to be in 'Movie' picture mode to edit these.
Bias lighting will also go a long way in masking the issue, as well as helping improve overall contrast

Thanks! Yeah I will post some on here after I finish spinning for the night.
Essentially you just need something like this...

and the acrylic platter. The Pro-Ject series all have enough clearance to fit the lights under, I assume most will. Then I just diffused them a bit with a very thin layer of hot glue. You could probably even do it with a normal platter if there is room and have a cool glow coming out from under it!

You don't see the strip itself unless you put your head under the cabinet, so they don't have to look super pretty. They are run with low voltage between each gap down through floor and back up, because it was an after thought in our remodel. On a switched outlet.
People pay way too much for "nice looking"units when hiding them is a much better choice.

I know my needs are fairly minimal. I see opportunity to grow with this system if I ever need to. I’m excited to lay it out with the actual parts soon and begin thinking about it in the real world.
Any suggestions, info or questions are completely welcome. I know little about electrical, only what I’ve learned from reddit and youtube. Thanks pals and again /u/StolidSentinel for the help and replies to all my messages and questions!
Walmart sells LED rope lights in-store that come in different colors. They are intended for outdoors decoration and located in the lighting section (hardware and light bulbs, not lamps) of the store. However, these are not battery powered, and as far as I can tell, you cannot program them to flash on and off.
An alternative would be to solder some waterproof LED strips to a DC connector, which you can then plug into a battery pack. If you go this route, make sure you research voltage and all that (not my strong suit, so I can't help you there). Also, make sure your battery source is protected in some sort of waterproof container, or just unplug it and keep it inside when not in use.
I use 2 LED sets. One on the back of my desk, and one behind the monitors.
LED set behind the monitor
LED set behind the desk
I bought both in 2014, and they're still going strong. Definitely worth the money for its looks and ambience. A bit of advice when buying LEDs: make sure you buy sets of LEDs from the same manufacturer. LED color varies between manufacturers, and it'll suck if you have (eg) two different shades of blue.
Hope that helped
I just bought this based off of another redditors opinion.

you don't really need one at all. I've had plenty of luck without them, however you know what would fit really well on a minifridge?
Couldnt find the one i was thinking of, but i have a few that are about 12inch square and they work really well for small quarter growing

Works pretty well and remote is fun.
Maybe it was just my experience, but I've ordered many different brands of EL wire on Amazon from different sellers. As much as they kind of work, they aren't that bright. For each separate color, you can get a separate controller box for them. The more EL wire you attach to one controller box, the dimmer the light will be.
Will the EL wire basically be wrapped around the hook or are you incorporating it into the shell of the hook itself? In other words, will it look like it's glowing from within or are you just making it look like a Christmas tree?
I've seen people construct the hook and add color changing LEDs inside then cover the entire hook with a clear worbla to hide the LEDs and wires. This gives it an inner glow effect. You could do this same method w/ the EL wire, but it may not be as bright.
I highly recommend an LED light strip like one of these. You can set them to one color, or have them change with the music. Very enjoyable.
Yes, though as far as I am aware Philips Ambilight is the original (they've been putting it in TVs since the early 2000's).
If I were to do it I would do the Arduino method, but I wouldn't recommend buying the Adalight Kit from Adafruit. It is overpriced, you can get 16.4 feet of addressable LED strip with power supply for $25-35, which is enough for a 50" TV, and then you just need the Arduino.
And if you have Philips Hue Lights or Yeelights already, their are programs for both to match your display. Though those won't have quite the same effect, as you won't have a bunch of individual LEDs.
Additionally if someone wants a cheapish plug and play option this looks good: www.amazon.com/dp/B07JKVKZX8
I haven't tried it but the concept seems more convenient for a TV. It uses a camera pointing down at the screen to detect the colors, which may be less precise, but means you can have it work with multiple inputs easily.
If you have the budget hue blubs are cool you can change the color with your phone. Never used one but stuff like This are cool.
This Loominoodle light strip. I like that its USB powered, so I just plug it into my TV's USB port and it goes on and off with the TV. My only wish is that there were controls to adjust the brightness
It looks good but it's pretty pricy imo. Are there any cheaper alternatives? Do you know anything about this one? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IQOV13G/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1498335699&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=led+strip
Might want to try some LED strips. I ordered these on Amazon that seem to have good reviews. I have a little more room, so think I'm going to make a hood to put the lights in so I can adjust the height. If you want narrow shelves though, you could just stick them on the bottom of the upper shelf and get them pretty close.

I used these, just last night. Worked great. I recommend these to mount them. http://i.imgur.com/3v4IoBA.jpg
All good man, it's honestly one of those really cheap strips you can get on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M9H6LCQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SeM7ybHBW958B
I can deal with that...
I bought these a while back to put in my safe. They are amazing. I wonder if I could rig them up on a bike though?
Bought a set of these for my Son:
https://www.amazon.com/Topled-LightUSB-Light-Multicolor-Backlight/dp/B01KXUX6SO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1492794760&sr=8-7&keywords=USB+RGB+LED+Strip
and a USB 2.0 Header to Female USB to power it from inside the case:
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Motherboard-4-Pin-Header-USBMBADAPT/dp/B000IV6S9S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1492794817&sr=8-5&keywords=USB+2.0+Header+to+Female+USB
All up just under 20 bucks and it looks real nice.
It's not magnetic, just 3M adhesive, but if you really wanted to you could pick up some magnetic sheets from pretty much any hobby store for a few bucks and glue them on.
I'm also using an H801 with ESPEasy and a lights plugin. It sounds like many of these controllers are supported by OpenHAB and Home Assistant out of the box now, but I feel better knowing what the firmware is doing. I'm controlling it with OH and a Xiaomi motion sensor.
I used these 2835 strips. My only complaint is they aren't really a warm white, but I think that's a pretty common complaint with most of these kinds of strips.
Also, go ahead and buy the clip on connectors. I thought it would be cleaner and take up less space just to solder wires to the pads.... didn't really think about how I was going to solder it upside down under the cabinet.
I have one of these: SUPERNIGHT (TM) 16.4ft 5M Waterproof Flexible 300leds Color Changing RGB SMD5050 LED Light Strip Kit RGB 5M +24Key Remote+12V Power Supply
It is Extremely bright and could easily light up a bedroom or small office.
I've had a good year so far with some popular LED strip lights from Amazon. It's plugged into a switchable outlet. I added some hot glue on the ends.

Some plants also need lights during summer days
Plant photosynthesis need light. Red light promote plant production germination , flowering, Blu-ray can enhance the chloroplasts of activities to promote plant photosynthesis.
Red:Blue=4:1 would be ok, Wavelength: Red 625-660nm; Blue: 450-465nm

Thanks for the reply! I'm entirely unexperienced with light stuff, nor do I paint. Is the following generally the same thing and would work as well you think?

TV backlights are amazing, if you play a lot at night.
Hey man, I would return those LED sets and get this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y15YVFN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have it and it's amazing. The transitions are smooth and simple. Those ones definitely don't look like it.
USB-powered LED strips might be a good choice, you can use a USB power bank for a cell phone to power the lights.
LED strips are easy to work with because they can be shortened by cutting on the designated areas, shaped to the design you want, there are extension cables for putting multiple strips on one circuit.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KXUX6SO/
(not necessarily this exact item, but one like it)
For Arian I would get this shoot I might buy them for myself right now. Based on her list she seems like a pretty cool chick.
For you this [dress](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073B2CRRZ/?coliid=I1N9L3SVFEFLMO&colid=DVZD2IHRV52U&psc=1&ref\_=lv\_vv\_lig\_dp\_it] it looks so comfortable for summer)
Static color. I'd hate if they were responsive. I have these for both my monitor and my TV. They help with eye strain A LOT and I honestly think it helps with the contrast of colors.
This is my next project...

The HitLights kit is a joke in Canada. Amazon.com: $29.99. Amazon.ca: $70.97. eBay it is, then.
I posted the link in another comment, just select the size. I spent 30 on these, they're nice but I think it would be better to buy the ones with the camera that senses the dominant color
Yeah we used lights like this LEDwholesalers 12V 16.4ft RGB Color-Changing Flexible LED Ribbon Strip Light in White PCB, 2034RGB-R2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00476B908/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qE4RybXBXEDZ6
We just epoxied them to the bottom and ran power from the core power module
There’s definitely a way to do it using a computer program (or arduino/raspberry pi). As for off the shelf, the closest I’ve seen is this unit which is made for putting led tape light around the edge of a tv and it will output the average colors around the perimeter of the hdmi feed. Though you’d probably end up needing to modify so much you’d be better off writing code... I just thought it was a relevant device.
Here's the strip I'm using. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018X04ES2/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I'm using these lights for a music performance so just white strips aren't an option. I'm currently using these https://www.amazon.com/Makerfocus-Charging-Lithium-Battery-Protection/dp/B071RG4YWM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1549826895&sr=8-5&keywords=charger+module. With a fully charged battery, I'm still not getting as much brightness as when I have the charger module plugged in via USB or adding a battery at both ends, but would like to just use 1 battery if possible. I won't be running the lights at full white except for the end of the show.
Beat $26 I've ever spent! Great to set the vibe/mood https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IQOV13G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NYiYAbG3SCAPX
Cold cathode kits work fairly well. If you're set on LEDs, this one seems pretty good
I've used the DMXking LeDMX4 PRO (get the variable volatge version,) they run up to 4 full 300px strips and talk Artnet/SACN to your console; you'll need a 12v power supply rated for the strips, and 12v WS2811B, 5m strips. You'll need 8 universes free to do 4 5m strips.

There are ready made kits that you can buy from amazon that have everything you need to do it as a solid strip. If you want to do individual strips you'd need to also buy wiring to link the led strips together.

I am currently in the process of building one of these OpenAg Food Computers and this item is not on the list that I purchased. I do have some white LED adhesive strips off amazon, which it looks right now that they will be for illumination of the computer side of the unit. Inside the growth chamber we have two Erligpowht 45W LED: https://www.amazon.com/Erligpowht-Indoor-Garden-Plant-Hanging/dp/B00S2DPYQM/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1443799150&sr=8-2-fkmr2&keywords=grow+led+panel+erwl
These will be the main source of lighting growing the plants. The white LEDs are only for visual appeal, which I'm assuming would be the same for those LEDs by GE.
I've been using [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LR3RAVU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for the past few weeks and really happy with it.
Any.. if you're willing to cut the strip, that is just a cut off of what's at my battlestation (yet to be posed).

and then you just need a power adapter:

I would probably get a set (matched controller and LED strip)...something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-Waterproof-Flexible-300leds-Changing/dp/B00ASHP1CM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1416200267&sr=8-4&keywords=12V+led+strip+12ft&pebp=1416200283824
And use a car battery in place of the power supply. Even better would be if you could get a car relatively close and run wires from the battery...and start the car every once in a while to keep things charged up.
For lighting I'm using this adhesive USB LED strip kit off Amazon. I took one strip and stuck it to the back of the desk behind my PC (out of frame obviously), then I stuck one behind my monitor, and the other to the left side of my monitor. I'm honestly surprised the adhesive stuck to the particle board crap my desk is made of. I thought I was gonna have to jerry rig something. The included IR remote is "meh." It works, but some of the buttons aren't labeled how they should be. 1 shade of "Orange" is actually yellow. "Yellow" is yellow-green, "pink" is actually purple, so on and so forth. They were only $12 though, so I'm pretty pleased with them.
Here's the one I got.
Power Practical Luminoodle USB Bias Lighting - LED TV Backlight Strip - Ambient Home Theater Light, TV Accent Lighting to Reduce Eye Strain, Improve Contrast - White - X-Large (41"-59" TV) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076X89GRW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YbBADb6Q407FB
They have different sizes and a pro version that comes with a remote. You should be ok with just the strip. I only got the remote because my Sony TV doesn't power off the USB ports when I turn it off.
I just returned my hue because it dawned on me it's just one solid color. One end lost its white too in less than a week with less than an hour use.
I bought these instead. Much better color!

Sure! The reactor itself is a Aquatop MR-30 which I bought used for $20. Its powered by an Aquatop SWP-1300 pump. The lights are from Amazon. Here’s the link .
With shipping and tax and everything it comes out to $50 which is much more reasonable, but I'm wondering how large of a difference there would be compared to this strip that I've heard general good things about (but not nessicsary in a professional setting)
Luminoodle USB Bias Lighting: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01LR3RAVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JKBqDbQ5BZX9N
Soldering is a good skill to have and basic soldering irons are very inexpensive. Try it!
Your other option is to buy longer wire and use strip to wire connectors on both ends of the wire.
Ah, my bad. I've done a bit with steel wool and it looked just like that.
When you say RGB strip, are you referring to something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Changing-LED-Strip-Ledwholesalers/dp/B00476B908/ref=sr_1_1/177-0243205-1842624?ie=UTF8&qid=1375203144&sr=8-1&keywords=led+rgb+strip+lights
I dabble in light painting myself and I'm always looking for new light styles. That's a really cool effect.
Based on the remotes at the left, I think these are them :)
Just need it for a week or two more until I set up my grow tent. I have a 45w red/blue LED (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S2DPYQM/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), this 24w, and a few CFLs should be good for 2 plants in a grow tent.
You may have to learn to solder, since I haven't personally bought any 'kits' with batteries and on/off packs like you can with EL wire. I found these places with a quick search:

It worked perfectly at first but either the sensor or the remote is screwing up.
Thanks. I have these leds. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M9H6LCQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Wo3CzbVRDXCWD
They're mounted in the front next to the fan housing.

Yes,

i found this plant strip interested, is there any discount for this item?
https://www.amazon.com/plant-grow-light-strip/dp/B01NAC7ZOC
Here you go. You can get waterproof vs. not waterproof. I like the waterproof because it has a soft coating over it instead of exposed LED so it doesn't snag on wires. You can get different lengths as well, just make sure you get the kit that comes with the power supply
http://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-Waterproof-Flexible-300leds-Changing/dp/B00ASHP1CM/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1412572118&sr=8-11&keywords=led+light
Are we talking strips for a desk or for a PC?
If it's for a PC, these strips from Deepcool are 18$.
If it's for a desk, you have many, many wheels of taped strips for 20-25$. Got these specifically myself, which have been serving me well for close to 2 years now.
well as of right now i dont have any stuff to work with just trying to get the shopping list. the thought here is to make it easy to use and fix. as for control all it has to do is red, green, yellow and strobe but i wanted to make it where the owner of the track could do other things if he wanted to. the lights would most likely be on really long runs of wires. what i was looking to buy was,
[DMX controller] (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/733413-REG/CHAUVET_OBEY_3_Obey_3.html),[3 channel decoder](https://www.amazon.com/Inkbird-Constant-Voltage-Decoder-DC12-24V/dp/B00Q2I2GHY/ref=pd_sim_267_45?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00Q2I2GHY&pd_rd_r=HQ13ZCFGFMN3YH702J0S&pd_rd_w=EPiPn&pd_rd_wg=PcqMq&psc=1&refRID=HQ13ZCFGFMN3YH702J0S),[LED lights x8](https://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-16-4ft-Color-Changing-Flexible-2034RGB-R2/dp/B00476B908)
Usually something like this
I'm planning to connect around 45 feet of led strip. What power supply would I need to connect them? I have ones like to these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IQOV13G/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_cwoJzb8JT558F
Like THIS
Try getting a bias lighting kit. It helps a lot in general, and they are cheap on Amazon.
Example (I do not necessarily recommend this model)
Here's a strip of color changing leds:
http://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Changing-LED-Strip-Ledwholesalers/dp/B00476B908/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1347821566&sr=1-3&keywords=ledwholesalers
And here's a sound controller:
http://www.amazon.com/HitLights-Activated-Controller-Changing-Plug-And-Play/dp/B007RGRJ36/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1347821263&sr=8-8&keywords=sound+activated+light
Comes out at just under $50 on Amazon with prime shipping!
Added it myself, works on any 5V USB port your TV should have. Here is the product. There are probably cheaper versions of it available, but this one was recommended by a colleague.
I bought these and they work well. I've had them on for 8 hours, I just touched them and they aren't really even warm. They have 3M on the back and you can cut them to fit.
I'm thinking of buying an RGB LED strip for photography purposes but I'm confused on how this works. I can buy a remote separately to control the lights but how is it powered? Through AC? Or outlet? Is it a simple plug and play out of the box or is there some sort of modification I have to make to it?
Here's one I'm looking at but I don't quite understand how this is set up.
https://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-Color-Changing-LED-Strip-2034RGB-R2/dp/B00476B908
I use these! I have them around my desk and monitors (not plugged in for the pic because it was giving a weird glare), also behind my TV.
Amazon $25 only! It makes the whole setup come together.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076X89GRW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
You get something like this, and something like this.
The controller will include driver software and an interface for manipulating the LED strip. This controller includes documentation for scripting control and to make function calls through the Windows API for your own development purposes. You will have to find or create your own solution for hotkey mapping.

haha, I actually have some conduit running on the wall you cant see well because of the lighting, so i'll just hide it there. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ASHP1CM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this TV and I have the [Luminoodle] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LR3RAVU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it works fine. The only thing is that the USB will stay powered for 15 minutes after you turn off the TV. Get the Large if you want it to all the way around the back of the TV. I get a lot of compliments on the way it looks and think it makes the TV picture look sharper and darker. The TCL has a horrible backlight and this fixes that somewhat.

They also sell LED ribbon kits with a similar remote. Some of them are waterproof up to 300 feet.

You'd probably need to silicone the strip to whatever surface and let it dry before using it.
This may not be exactly what you're looking for but it may remove some of the shadows. An LED light strip could bring light to behind a desk or under a bed. They're not that expensive.

I have one of these spread out over a 1.5 x 3 ft board. I also have a single 70W equivalent CFL.

As pictured, they're surrounded by reflective insulation and they get 17 hours of light per day.

No problem.
I was also looking at an alternative solution from another reddit post which would use the following items:
If this makes sense then it would look something like this?
LED strip --> strip connector --> 10m extension cable (through ceiling) --> strip connector --> LED strip for cabinets on other side of wall
Found a very informative video of the ballast + LED strips + hue bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNfa9X5Sq1Q
That's already $93 + tax so if it makes more sense to just get a refurb hue strip kits and synchronize them to the same room (Kitchen) then I guess I will go with another set of hue strip kits.
I've been battling with this myself during this past year. This is what I've learned.
Here are the factors that influence eye strain:
A simple way of checking if your monitor has PWM is lowering the brightness and waving your hand fast in front of the monitor. You should see "steps" instead of a fluid motion. Another way is by using a camera.
More info here.
For example a 1440p monitor at 24 or even 27 inches may produce text that is too small to read if you are over 35 years old. In my experience the ideal resolution is 4K at 27 inches with hiDPI on macOS or 175%-200% scaling in Windows.
that's about normal for dreamscreen.
I have these in my living room, and they do work well.. but obviously you get what you pay for.
No problem. Here you go :http://imgur.com/a/NQQd5AQ
I'm in the middle of replacing the windows behind the TV, so don't judge me there. Ha.
What I bought : https://i.imgur.com/3UWcsha.jpg
I don't think they sell the Taotronics led strip anymore but this one seems to be the exact same.
I have these LED strips, they arent super heavy.
I use probably the same one behind my TV cabinet and my bed. They're on Amazon for dirt cheap, $23 for the complete kit!
There's other versions, that can do much more; ie: wifi controlled, sync to screen/music, etc... but those are a lot more money. Those would be the Philips Hue, and the LightPack
Here is are some thoughts that I have been mulling over for my own Geek Den:
LED lighting strips, stick them to the back of shelving, cabernets, under the sofa... for a cool colour changing glow. (Just installed them under my bed instead of bedside lamps)
Look over your old game collection boxes to see if they come with posters, frame them they look amazing. I just put the original GTA poster in an IKEA frame.
Wall mount controllers, sports equipment, not only do they become decoration but it keeps the place tidy.
Do you have any old handhelds? if you do frame them in an appropriate frame.
and for posters just go on etsy so many good ones mixed in with all of the crap. link
I put the wrong link sorry

Or anything similar
Most X99 boards either have NVME M.2 support out of the box, or can have it patched in in seconds with a USB keydrive. Mine needed the latter, but again - it took under a minute to do.
Why do you need more USB headers? Your case only has USB 3.0, and it only uses the one header. That's a really weird requirement.
The same aesthetic on your motherboard could be achieved for $100 cheaper by buying $5 RGB LED strips (and I'm serious about the price, [16 feet of the stuff is $20] (https://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-16-4ft-Color-Changing-Flexible-2034RGB-R2/dp/B00476B908)) and custom-lighting a cheaper board yourself. You'd even have more control over what regions light up and which colors they turn. You're already buying an NZXT Hue+, so it's not like you'd need an extra lighting controller.
Cheap shit from Amazon.

Which kit did you get? And did you cut the strips yourself?
They're only about $20 on Amazon so it's not a huge investment. They put out a lot of light. If you're looking for something for lighting, I'd recommend them.
The only negative things so far are that they smell terrible when you first get them (the smell goes away after about a day, though) and the adhesive backing isn't the strongest. No major drawbacks.
Yes, it is a projector mounted to the ceiling.
The projector is just a random old Epson that he had in his basement, so any projector will do really. The mount is just a piece of wood that was screwed into the built in mounting holes of the projector, then screwed into the ceiling. So there's no Amazon link unfortunately.
As for the LED's it was 2 strands of these.
