1.) Neither, You need to use either Wiimote (normal or plus), Wiimote+Nunchuk, or Wii Classic Controller (or CCPro). I recommend the Wii Classic Controller Pro. However, you can use the Gamepad as a screen for your Wii games.

Seeing as you haven't played a game since the Gamecube era, and having no idea of what type of games you enjoy except SSB, I can barely recommend games, but: Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Sonic: Lost World, The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros. U (and Luigi U), maybe Lego City: Undercover or Zombi U, and eventually Mario Kart 8.

3.) Injustice is a good game, though I believe the Wii U version doesn't have all the DLC/doesn't have the 'Ultimate Edition). Black Ops 2 is good if you enjoy Call of Duty post Modern Warfare 4. Neither games are 'elite/hardcore' in their respective genres (Fighting/FPS).

4.) I'd recommend the Wii U Pro Controller for most Wii U games that support it. There are some good Virtual Console titles on the Wii U eshop, like Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Megaman X, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Earthbound for SNES, and more recently Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror for GBA, with Golden Sun, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Yoshi's Island coming in the next week.

For Skyward Sword the original Wii controller is mandatory, swordplay in that game follows your own movement like sideslash, slashing up etc. As for the rest of these games, get a Classic controller. And yeah, try to find Xenoblade Chronicles first ;) It's spectacular.

If you were a virgin on both consoles, I would say 3DS just for simplicity sake; but since you already own a 3DS, I think the wii is a good choice.

Just like Dominic4523 said, make sure it is one of the backwards compatible models if you plan to play gamecube games.

Also, you need to know that you will need a lot of stuff to fully enjoy what the wii has to offer.

You need a wiimote + nunchuck for most wii games. Some will only need the wiimote, but most will need you to have both, for every player too.

If you plan to play gamecube games, you'll need a gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card to save your progress. Those games are not playable with the wiimote.

Last, if you plan to get virtual console games, you'll need a classic controller model 1 or model 2; and also, the wii shop channel will not be selling points starting next Monday March 26th, so you'll have to check the store asap for potential purchases.

If after knowing all that you still want a wii, go for it, but it is definitely way easier to just got a new 3DS.

At this point it kinda became something to collect. I have my Wii in another room from the Wii U, so I just pair them to their respective systems and I can at least tell myself "They all have a purpose". Personally I prefer to have controllers of different colors since it's a lot easier to distinguish between "the 3rd player light" and "the green controller".

I started with 4 white regular Wiimotes from the Wii. Through out the life I got 2 motion+ adapters (With Tiger Woods and Wii Sports Resort).

For everything EXCEPT golf I prefer the smaller controller with motion+ built in. For Golf (Tiger or Wii Sports) I find the longer length preferable, so I kept 1 original remote with motion plus and started getting new colored controllers to replace the originals. I have friends and family with Wii's so 3 of my 4 originals were gifted to new homes as I got new ones.

If you buy Nintendo Refurbs it's pretty cheap. You can get 3 separate colors (White, Black, Blue) with matching nunchucks for $65 shipped.

I also got the Zelda collectors edition so that right there is 5. (White+ Black+ Blue+ Gold+ White w/adapter)

The wife wanted Pink Motion+, so now that's 6.

and my son Likes the Mario + Luigi ones, so I got him the Luigi one from the Newegg NintendoLand deal last month ($30 shipped for both) and since I owned NintendoLand I sold it (Factory sealed) on Amazon for $20. So that's my 7 which doesn't include the Black Wiimote+ I got in Wii Party U I gifted out.

Honestly I'd love to get a Red one with a matching nunchuck myself but for the price of importing them from Japan I could buy a Wii mini and give away the system. I'm hoping they show up on the Refurb store at some point.

Now the Wife LOVES the Peach one so I'll definitely be getting that at minimum and that'll be 8 (unless she wants to gift out the original pink), but can already see a potential 9 or 10 if I get a deal on the Mario / Regular red controllers.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for being as detailed as possible, it helps me answer your question. Also, this controller infographic might come in handy. I personally would sell the Wii and remotes, and just buy Wiimotes with Motion Plus already built in. This list shows the games that need Wiimotion plus, and as you can see there isn't many of them, yet you are right, to play Skyward Sword you need one. Since you already have a Wii built into your Wii U and know you need the Motionplus, you could always buy one of the custom new ones, such as the Mario or Luigi ones. A lot of people have bought Wiimotes with motion plus built in refurbished from Nintendo and have had good luck with that. Keep any nunchucks you have. Also, the pro controller is definitely worth it. It is light, insane battery life and your guests will appreciate playing on that over a Wiimote. Hope I answered your questions and feel free to ask more!

My friend has that and loves it. Personally though, a GC controller feels much more awkward to use than a PS2 controller. When I'm emulating an N64 on my computer, I usually use a 360 controller or a Logitech Gamepad (which is styled after the PS2 controller). So on the physical system, the PS2->N64 adapter here seems like it would be much nicer (and more familiar) for me than using a GC controller...

That said, the original Wii Pro controller is a fantastic middle-ground between GC and PS2, better than either one really; I'd love to find an adapter for using one of those instead!

The Wii Classic Pro controller is the best controller design ever IMO. It has GC joysticks on the bottom, a good D-pad, and the face buttons feel great.

Unfortunately, it's one of the ones that awkwardly plugs into the Wii remote. If it was a standalone like the Wii U Pro controller it would be amazing.

1. all of the vc games so far on the wii u are from snes and nes. n64 and game boy advance are confirmed to be coming in the future, and while still a rumor, gamecube games are most likely to come at some point too (though probably still 2 or 3 years away from that). on the wii shop channel in wii mode (more on that in a sec), there are vc games from every nintendo CONSOLE prior to the gamecube, as well as some titles from turbrografx16, sega geneisis, sega master system, select arcade titles, commodore 64, msx and neo geo. for the wii u vc, you can view the selection from the nintendo eshop (the orange bag icon at the bottom of the wii u menu and in the home menu), and for the wii vc, they can be viewed in the wii shop channel found in wii mode. any virtual console games from either service have no online functionality whatsoever, except that the wii u vc games allow you to post comments and screenshots of the games to miiverse. there is NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER

   do note that no wii u controllers (the gamepad and wii u pro controller) can be used in wii mode, and therefore cannot be used with wii games. you will need a wii remote and nunchuck, and possibly might want a classic controller pro to cover any controller needs for wii games. there are no current wii u bundles that come with any of that stuff, so make sure you pick up some of the aforementioned items if you plan to even boot up wii mode (the wii u doesn't let you start wii mode without a wii remote, so you have to have at least one of those). also, make sure that any wii remotes you get says "wii motion plus inside" on the bottom of the controller. while it is practically impossible to get the old kind, having one of the old kind would not allow you to fully enjoy some wii u games, such as nintendoland (a great multiplayer game that, while lacking online multiplayer, is great to have if your siblings ever come and visit). basically it needs to look like this, though colours may vary
   
   also i would recommend the deluxe bundle, as it comes with a game, and a special promotion where you get 10% of all your eshop purchases on the wii u back to be used towards future eshop purchases.
   
   depending where you live, i would highly recommend this bundle. it may not be available anymore, but i think it is the best deal. i haven't played zombiu myself, but i heard it is a pretty decent survival-horror game that really shows off the features of the wii u.

I think it definitely has one of the better stories of any Zelda game, but it's infamous for being a love it/hate it based solely around the controls. For this one, you're required to play it with a Wiimote & Nunchuk, and the Wiimote specifically requires Wii Motion Plus. I don't know that I'd trust a third-party controller for it, since idk how they work with Motion Plus, but the cheapest I'm able to find an official first-party Nintendo Wii Remote is this one (which has the Motion Plus installed into it) on Amazon for $32. If you're alright getting one pre-owned, go in-store to GameStop and see if you can find one (pre-owned for $25) that says "Wii MotionPlus Inside!" at the bottom of the controller. If you can't and still feel like going this route, there's also the option to buy the Motion Plus on it's own ($12 used on GameStop, or cheaper on Amazon but you'll need to wait for shipping on it) and you can plug that into a regular Wiimote.

1. All the most hyped games accept 4 players including NSMBU, Smash Bros 4, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World and all those party games. All very kid and parent friendly, some a little bit more difficult than other.
   
   
2. The base console only comes with a gamepad, controllers are a big price changer (for me at least). I suggest buying the Wii Remote Plus controllers as most of the games use them. Alternatively there is the Pro Controller, it's very praised, with a huge battery life and basically it's a gamepad without the screen.
   
   
3. It's not as unpopular as expected, it depends mostly on the country, there's a huge fan base and at least I see a great future for it. You can check some of the Black Friday deals on this sub. Also Nintendo is getting it extremely right with it's exclusives, MK8 and Smash are awesome and for some "mature" games Bayonneta 2 have been very acclaimed. Next generation console is pretty far as they have just begin to launch all the main games for it.
   
   edit: Oh and for the ps4 and xbone games that aren't available for the Wii U, Ubisoft is avoiding it and said that Watch Dogs may be the last one, you can only have a cinematic experience in Assassins Creed Unity with other consoles. We also won't have Call of Duty any more.No minecraft and something that I actually miss is the last FIFA we had is 13. So a bunch of games are available for ps4 and xbone but not for the Wii U, I would go even further and say most of these consoles games aren't on the Wii U. But hey almost all of the best games of the Wii U are exclusives too.

It depends on what games you want to play.
The old school Wii Remote and Nunchuck will work on many multiplayer games and are also necessary for playing any Wii games

However, if you want to play Wii U games, you can also choose the Wii U Pro Controller. (which can NOT be used when playing original Wii games. Only for Wii U titles)

I have found that owning one of these isnt necessary, I have been able to get by with 4 players on my Wii U using only the supplied gamepad and 4 old Wii motes (nintendo land, mario kart, mario bros can all work with the old wii motes).

the old Wii remotes were upgraded towards the end of the life of the original Wii, so if you plan on getting Wii remotes, make sure you get the Wii Remote Plus models, to ensure you can use them on everything (some games require the added "Plus" functionality to work)

Just got a Wii motion sensor bar so I can play light gun games on my PC and use the WiiMote as a remote control. Also thinking about racing games with the steering wheel attachment. Monitors are from Craigslist ($35 and $10 respectively). CRT was a gift from a friend. It's dying though (discoloration). Pre-amp and speakers were also gifts from friends. PC and consoles I bought myself.

Floating and tripping were the main two issues you'll hear any fan of Melee bring up. I agree entirely, to be honest. Tripping especially is a point of contention, as it's the one random element you can't remove (unlike stage selection, or items.)

Ghost Squad- I play with this gun attachment because I am awesome. The game is 20 bucks pretty much everywhere, and it's a good enough shooter to warrant it.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core- Absolutely fantastic 2d fighter

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom- See above, but add in characters you actually recognize.

Trauma Center (New Blood or Second Opinion, I recommend New Blood due to multiplayer.)- IS IT WATER ON THE KNEE? OPERATION. No, seriously, it's a surgery game played with the wiimote that can get real challenging real fast. Definitely recommended for you and a friend to tackle.

Hold B while starting up the Wii U, you will go straight to Wii mode without needing to select anything using a wii mote, then the gamepad has a built in sensor bar (around the camera), so you can use motion controls with just the gamepad - no sensor bar required. You can also order a classic controller pro, wii classic controller, mayflash adapter with a gamecube controller, or a knock off - all of which plug directly in to a Wii mote, but let you play with a more standard control option.

If they all offer the same hardware, the price typically indicates the condition of the console. Read the condition descriptions. Personally, I'd buy the cheapest one that is in what I would personally consider to be a good condition.

However, from the image on that Amazon page - those Wii Remotes and nunchucks are definitely NOT legitimate. There's no guarantee the console itself is either. If that is what is being sold by those sellers, I would look elsewhere.

Whether or not you want the GameCube compatibility will probably depend on whether or not your kids care about having the ability to play old GameCube games or not. If you're not sure, don't worry about it.

It sounds like the Wii Motion Plus isn't working right in your controller. There's an old accessory that adds it to a controller - but honestly your safest bet is to get an official Nintendo controller. You can get them refurbished from Nintendo's own store on the cheap.

Wii Sports Club is $40 for all 5 sports - two of them (Baseball and Boxing?) come bundled together. There's also a retail version, which should also MSRP for $40, but may be cheaper used. You could always try picking up the older Wii titles, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, for less money. If you're looking specifically for moving-around games, WarioWare: Smooth Moves (also for Wii) or any of the Just Dance titles may be worth looking into.

EDIT: OH DUH, also Wii Fit/Wii Fit U. But those'll be extra pricey what with the balance board.

The GamePad comes with the console and you must have one. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The Pro Controller is optional. In multiplatform games it's generally really helpful because it's more comfortable than the GamePad. So, for example, the game Darksiders: Warmastered Edition - The GamePad has no added functionality. The screen just shows what the TV shows. The Pro Controller works just as well. However in games like ZombiU, the GamePad is used for inventory management and other things. The GamePad is the way to go in that case. The Pro Controller is really good but not useful in every case. For playing Wii games, you will need a Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The Wii U Pro Controller will not work for Wii Games. However, the Wii has its own Pro Controller. It works for many games. You can buy it here. The list of Wii games that support the Pro Controller can be found here.. (The Wikipedia page says Classic Controller, but the Classic Controller and the Pro Controller are the same. The Pro Controller is a more comfortable version of the Classic Controller.)

The original Playstation controller is the most innovative controller in recent history. It was essentially an upgraded SNES controller, notice the d-pad opposite four multi-purpose buttons. The triangle, circle, square, cross are just Sony's answer to Nintendo's A,B,X,Y.

But it was innovative for 2-3 reasons. One, it added handles for your hands. The NES and SNES controllers, while epic, aren't exactly the most comfortable things to hold.

Secondly, it added two more triggers and, later, two analog sticks.

Today, every console has its own brand of the PS1 controller. The 360 controller, while admittedly more comfortable than the PS3 controller, is identical in button layout, just switch the d-pad and left analog stick.

Even the Wii has its own version in the classic controller PRO.

You will need the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuck to play the classic Wii games but, the classic Wii remote will work as well if you already own that. Typical file sizes for older SNES games seem to be in the 20-30 MB range.

I'm playing Skyward Sword on a launch Wii, so the one you bought 2 years ago will be fine. The black ones are newer models, but the difference is pretty much just the color. The only thing you'll need to do is make sure he either has a wii motion plus adapter or a Wiimote Plus. Skyward Sword requires the use of this controller because it utilizes more advanced motion controls than the original wii remotes. The nunchuck hasn't changed.

If you bought Wii Sports Resort, it should've come with a motion plus adapter, so he might already have one, in which case, you just need the game. That might even be what you're referring to when you say "motion adapter." I'm not really sure what that is from the context of your post, or the "hard mat thing," either, for that matter (balance board, maybe?).

Lots of wireless controllers work on the Steam Link, even some third party controllers. The Steam Link supports all kinds of Bluetooth controllers and even controllers with USB dongles. The Xbox 360 wired controller works right out of the box. The wireless controllers work too, but you need the USB wireless receiver. The same is true with Xbox One controllers. The Bluetooth XB1 controllers work right out of the box. I tested my Afterglow AP.2 PS3 controller (USB dongle, has rechargeable battery built in) on it and it works brilliantly once you map the buttons.

I couldn't get my PowerA Mini Pro Elite Wii U controller to work, but that thing refuses to sync to ANYTHING except the Wii U. I could never figure out why.

My controller of choice is the Wii Classic Controller Pro. The face buttons can take a bit of getting used to, but the sticks are really nice and have the same octagon gates, it feels good to hold, and the shoulder buttons are worlds better than the GC's shoulder buttons. The GC's shoulder buttons are the sole reason I can never use that controller

What I think a more realistic version of this would look like is a cell phone, in the shape of a classic controller pro, with 2 thumb pads similar to the 3ds's. I personally think it's an awesome idea.

If you think your co-workers would fair better with more traditional controllers --- the Pro Controllers are the closest fit. They are a fairly expensive but also have a nearly 80 hour battery life. In games that support it, pro controllers can usually be used interchangeably with the gamepad (screen controller).

On the other end of the spectrum, the wii mote is cheaper, has less buttons (primarily used for simple games), includes pointer / motion controls, and requires batteries.

Some games will require the nunchuck addon; alternatively, a classic controller addon provides support similar to the pro above.

All games will list controller compatibility on the back of the box (or info page on sale sites).

There's a number of them on the Wii that would tickle your fancy; House of the Dead: Overkill; Deadspace:extraction; There's Link's Crossbow Training (not sure how good it is, never managed to pick it up, it's universally trashed for not being a Zelda game but I've never heard a gameplay review). Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is kind of a hybrid lightgun shooter (you control the movement of your character with a nunchuck and can perform melee attacks). This is the gun I use ($60 Amazon LOL, you can find these in clearanece bins of used videogame stores), I really like it and hope it does me well for duckhunt. I just hope you can turn the cursor off.

The classic controller can be used for every Wii VC title, so you can use the classic controller for OOT and Majora's Mask and all of the NES, SNES, and N64 titles on the Wii VC.

Best bet for playing TP without motion control is playing it on Gamecube.

Have you tried SS? The motion control is beautiful, best use of it on the system, 1:1 movement of the sword. Could be wrong, but I don't think there is any way to play it without the motion control.

You can use the Wii Classic Controller (https://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Nintendo-Standard/dp/B002TLTBN0/?th=1), but that's all I know about the VWii. Even with the adapter, GCN controllers won't work on the VWii. If you want more controller options, see if the game is available on the Wii U EShop. Good luck.

All WiiU games and any Virtual Console games that are in the WiiU's eShop can be default be played 100% with the gamepad. If you want to play old Wii games you will most likely (99% of games) need a Wiimote and nunchuck. Based on personal preferences you can then opt for a Pro Controller to use with certain games if you want. For example, I played Hyrule Warriors exclusively with the Pro Controller even though I didn't have to, just 'cause.

The 2 remotes and nunchuks are most likely the launch models and are fine for almost all games. They will definitely work with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros for Wii U.

For Wii Sports Club and Nintendo Land though you'll want to buy either a Wii Motion Plus which will plug into your normal remote or a Wii Remote Plus which would serve as another controller.

I'm going to suggest the Classic controller pro, especially if it's your only controller. The GC controller is awesome for N64 and Wii games, but the classic does everything else better in my opinion and does N64/Wii games well enough.

Xbox has kept the same controller layout across three generations, right up to the modern one. Nintendo went back to a layout they haven't had on home consoles since the SNES. Who's gonna have the muscle memory for a system from four generations and over 20 years ago?

On Amazon you can get a Wii Remote and a Wii Classic Controller Pro for about $35. It's a little clunky to have two things connected together, but it works well and the controller is nice.

When I saw it at GS, it was clear to me that it wasn't a Wii U Pro Controller, but an all-in-one Classic Controller that didn't require you to tether to a Wiimote.

I played XBC1 on the Wii using one of these controllers. It was a pleasant experience.

Imagine an archery sim where the strain you put on your bowstring directly translates into the game.

Some sort of a wii controller where pulling the controller "halves" apart translates into something like transforming from vehicle to mech, bringing up a pda menu.

I tried using the Wii classic controller to play brawl the other day so I could get used to the feel of what a 3DS would be like. I was just using the default controls, so X was jump, A was attack and B was special. I need to rebind I think because I just couldn't get my head around jump, I would move my thumb right and just press A to jump.

So someone hits me off a platform and then my guy just goes punch as he glides to his doom. So the tiniest change of keys messed up my play pretty bad.

That same day I tried Super smash flash for the first time, with the awkward as heck U I O P keys. I picked it up almost instantly. What the heck brain. I guess muscle memory was really screwing me over xD

This newer model of the classic controller is a lot easier on the hands. I know my Smash Bros.-playing friends love it to death.

And right now on my WiiU I'm able to play NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, and WiiU games with homebrew. You can also head to eBay to pick up a SNES controller that plugs into Wii remotes (or Amazon, apparently... wow) to play SNES games the way they were meant to be played. It's a golden age.

How does your computer run dolphin? If you haven't tried to run anything yet then you should do that to make sure that your computer is up to snuff for gamecube emulation.

The controller you want to use is this one right? If it is, all you need to do is connect the wiimote to your computer using something like glovepie, and then plug in and set it up that way. I dont use a mac, but this program looks like it would work.

The Classic Pro is fantastic for what you want to do, since GC controllers are not yet compatible. Personally, at this stage I'd rather just wait two months so I can play using a GC controller, but keep in mind that it has not been announced whether the GC adapter will work in the Wii menu through the Wii U.

No, it doesn't. The Motion Plus adds a gyroscope for finer control in games. If your IR is sketchy, and the accelerometer is breaking, it would be best to just replace the wii remote.

Yes, it is backwards compatible. You DO need a Wiimote however, and probably a nunchuck (thats the name of the joystick attachment) but i'm sure that can be fixed.

It's a good suggestion, but I went already in all game stores where I live, I can't find a single strap without need to buy the whole Wiimote. JanS19 find a link in Amazon.de with original Nintendo straps, 4 pcs set.

I read somewhere than there are three version of the Nintendo wrist strap (first is the weaker, last the stronger). So I prefer bet on the better strap I can find, for the Vive.

You'll need the Wii Remote anyway (the Wii U's Pro controller doesn't work for Wii games either). This is the controller I was talking about that you'd need for the VC games.

Personally, I'd recommend you get all 3 (Wiimote, Nunchuck, and Classic Controller), but if you can't then the one you get will depend on which games you'd rather play.

Most people probably won't agree (or didn't even know it was possible), but Wii Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro with the Mayflash converter is another option. If you get the Classic Controller Pro with Mayflash, it actually comes out a little cheaper than the 360 controller.

That being said, there are some conversion issues which require some other programs to work with. Still, it's a nice controller.

It really depends on how much quality you demand. I for myself was never happy with knockoffs and always bought (and still buy) original controllers, no matter for which platform. Especially for the Wii there are sometimes promotions in local stores, i.e. I got a Wii Classic Controller Pro for 18 € in a local store. That’s pretty decent and I also use it to play games in DeSmuME.

I actually just borrowed melee from a friend! And I've been playing smash bros since the n64 version, but I've never actually owned a nintendo console until now. It's not, it's a PS2 controller. I can see why you'd think it's a Wii Classic Pro controller, but the shoulder buttons on the Classic pro are rounded, whereas the PS2's are much squarer, like these are.

You can also see the telltale slopes along the vertical axis that the PS2 controller has on it's back side, the Classic pro has more of a wave/dip along the horizontal axis.

The Wiimote and Nunchuk say WiiU on the box, but the controller says Wii. Is this right?

This is an update to a robot I posted previously. Since that post I integrated the motor encoders for use in the control loop, changed from the Arduino motor shield to Pololu's motor shield (it's MUCH better, at least in my application), and added a wireless Wii Nunchuck to control it.

Keep in mind that everything lacking a "Wii" logo in the top center of the controller is a knockoff and is probably garbage.

You can, but in my experience it's a bit of a hassle. I tried it on two computers, and the one that previously had motioninjoy installed on it just refused to work with the Toshiba bluetooth stack as explained here. The other one worked fine and I tried out some emulators. The controller GUI is very barebones, and I suspect the OP of the gbatemp thread has jumped ship as the current version has remained at 1.6 for some time now.

For me personally, I find the Wii Classic Controller Pro and PC adapter to be more comfortable and much more easily configured. No wireless, but I don't mind.

The wii-motes will work just fine in every game that doesnt require motion plus. A game that shows this well is nintendoland, 2 of the games require motion plus, but all the others work fine without it. Motion plus is also available as an accessory so you wont have to buy completely new controllers, it usually costs about 5-10 bucks.

I picked up two Perfect Shots for those arcade-style games. They were incredibly worth it, especially since they were $20 or less for quite some time.

I would refrain from buying 3rd party controllers. They're usually much worse in quality. If they work with a wii then they should work work with Dolphin and the Dolphinbar aswell.

I printed a circuit board so that I could have a mini arduino shield for the receiver, but its not really necessary. Its just four pins hooked up to the arduino. I can send you the cad files for the board if you want

I would argue Nintendo made an even better controller than the gamecube that gets overlooked far too often.

Wii Classic Controller Pro

You're not confusing the Wii U's Pro Controller that only works with specified Wii U games with a Wii Classic Controller Pro that works with the Wii and some Wii U games, are you?

It fits the controllers fine. I have the club nintendo super famicom wii controller (https://www.amazon.com/Club-Nintendo-Super-Famicom-Classic-Controller/dp/B004TL1K0A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505507544&sr=8-1&keywords=club+nintendo+snes+controller) and use it as a second controller for my nes classic and it fits in the case. The foam sort of molds around the sides of the controller since it is slightly wider than an nes controller. I would imagine the snes would fit as well though the cutout may not be exactly perfect. That foam kind of molds around stuff though so it would probably work fine if they don't release a new one and the snes classic is the same size or slightly larger. If it was smaller it might flop around but I doubt it is smaller.

This is not a very good deal. The wii remote it comes with is used, and after you subtract the cost of the fightpad and the ammibo they are charging you $32 for it.

New official Wii Classic Controller Pros go for around $50 online and since they're out of production it's very unlikely you'll find one in a store.

The pro controller doesn't use sockets -- unless you mean USB in which case it is a different socket. The classic controller pro does use the Wiimote socket.

They're just controllers made for the Wii's Virtual Console, but they plugged into the Wii remote itself to make it wireless.

The ones that plug into the wiimotes are called wii classic controller pro. The ones that are wireless/usb are pro controllers

Is it really the naming schemes though? The Wii and WiiU Both had equivalent "Pro" controllers. I think for a lot of people when nintendo says "pro controller" it is assumed to be the non-gimmick controller.

Do you mean you bought the Wii U Pro Controller? Those aren't compatible with Wii Mode. The Classic Controller, and the Classic Controller Pro are what the games are referring to.

I don't remember if it came with any, or how many, because I bought it at launch. But really, Wiimotes are all you need for multiplayer. Those and games.

that was just to browse the dev environment. they used a classic wii controller for that. perhaps it might be possible if there's ever homebrew, otherwise it's not officially supported from what we've heard.
