Chill.

Really.

Life has a way of working it's way out and we all look back at tough times and realize, with a little time and perspective, that it wasn't as insurmountable at the time as we thought it was.

I once freaked out about leaving my awesome condo that was in a renovated junior high school from the 1920's. I thought I would live there for absolutely ever and when I had to move (because it was sold to someone else and I was renting) I wanted to die. I loved that building and had hoped that I could save up, get my credit score high and buy it myself one day. I had to realize that "home" is not a building. Home is a feeling you get when you are surrounded by love and things you care about. Whenever I move now (and I seem to do it waaaay to often) I first pack of box and label it "TO BE OPENED FIRST" and fill it with beautiful and favorite things that make me feel nostalgic and "home". Fuzzy slippers. Hot tea. Favorite artwork for the walls. Then, I am able to make a new empty space seem like where I am supposed to be more quickly. This is how I overcame what was true heartbreak of losing a space I loved seven years ago and it works every time.

I hope you are able to come up with a plan to calm down and enjoy this time in your life. I am sure that you will!

Maybe take a Happy Pill available on Amazon, which I think is sort of weird, right?

Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff.

Try taking theanine along with your coffee. It's an extract from green tea leaves that helps promote relaxation. That's why a cup of green tea, while caffeinated, won't make you as jittery as a cup of coffee.

Caffeine & theanine is a very popular nootropic stack; while you get the energy boost from caffeine, the theanine helps reduce or offset any negative effects like jitters, increased heart rate, or anxiety. Typically people take 200mg theanine for everyone 100mg caffeine (average amount in a cup of coffee)

If the energy boost is why you're drinking coffee, there's also an alternative called NeuroGum. I've found it helpful when trying to cycle off caffeine since it's in smaller doses (40mg caffeine & 60mg theanine)

u/kuntosaurusrex · 1 pointr/onions

Depression can lower your metabolism and cause weight gain. It can also mess with the part of your brain that deals with how full you feel (satiety). I don't want to go in to too much detail (sorry it's in my bones, I study neuroscience) but the chemical in our brains that makes us feel happy is called serotonin. If we don't have enough we can become depressed. There's a natural supplement called 5-HTP (you can buy it from any health/supplement store). Usually it's in our food and our guts take it in and our brains turn 5htp in to serotonin. If you take a supplement of it, our brains can make more serotonin. It's very safe.

Anyway they have studied it and another benefit is that it makes you feel fuller for longer and you eat less. Maybe give it a go? Cheap and safe.

>but what's the point of not making the snowball hit the bottom?

Because I've been exactly where you are, and can with 100% confidence say that it is totally possible to turn things around and live a happy life.

u/dEpThRiDeR · 1 pointr/depression

Considering tryng 5HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan). It's sold over the counter as natural mood and sleep enhancer. I typically buy the 'Now' brand as it guarantees safe processing methods and highest quality ingredients. It works with melatonin and seratonin levels. I tried plain melatonin for years but these work much better.

It's taken at bedtime as it causes drowsniness and helps you sleep more soundly. I've been taking it nightly (100mg) and I wake up in a better mood and more refreshed. Just an option - good luck.

Thanks, will certainly look into it further. I am also interested in meditation and will be implementing it when this semester closes out and it makes sense to begin practicing. After doing research over the past 24 hours, I've come up with potential ideas for what I may begin using. If anyone can provide feedback or any notes on any of the following and dosage, it would be appreciated:

  • Bacopa Monnieri - I wasn't sure if it's important to take the extract or the whole herb in capsule form
  • L-Citrulline
  • NAC - I read a recent study suggesting NAC may break down the BBB, but the unhealthy rats used seem faulty
  • KSM-66
  • Chelated Magnesium - I read chelated is the best in this case

Each of these listed are all just ideas, I'm not sure what would be necessary and what wouldn't, just what I've gathered from reading. I have also considered Zembrine and I'm not sure if a dopamine supplement would be necessary for any reason, but if so I've looked at L-Theanine and Dopa Mucuna.

In researching all of this, I've also found multivitamins created specifically for anxiety. Something like this seems it could be promising. Am I better off creating my own stack and taking supplements individually, or would the multivitamin option be something worth considering? Does anyone have any experience?
u/tequilafriday · 2 pointsr/migraine

I feel like I should clarify. I think that talking to your Dr. about your anxiety is a great idea. There are some decent medication options that could help both your anxiety and your migraines. So it would be a good conversation to have.

My point above is that you should state that you are NOT interested in taking any benzos. But be open to other options. My rule is that I always do research on a medication before I start taking it. And I always start by googling [MedicationName Withdrawal] and see what comes up. Some Drs are all to quick to prescribe stuff without giving any thought to the fact that getting off of the medication is going to be painful.

Ok that said, here's my recommendation for some non-prescription stuff you can investigate to reduce your anxiety.

  • Magnesium. This can be very calming.
  • L-Theanine
  • 5-HTP This may increase your levels of Serotonin. This can possibly make your migraines better or worse. Differs by the individual.
  • Kava
  • Valerian Root
  • GABA I've heard that "PharmaGABA" is much more likely to be effective that plain old GABA. Do some research. I don't really know.
  • The All-In-One There are a number of these formulations. They just combine a bunch of stuff listed above.

So there's some stuff you should do some research on. Some may relieve your anxiety but make your migraines worse. Some may be beneficial for both anxiety and migraines. It'll really be a trial and error to find out what works for your 'migraine brain'.

I've provided Amazon links, but you can honestly get most of these at your local Drug Store (CVS, Walgreens, etc.)

Remember always do your research, whether its a recommendation from your Dr, or some internet stranger. It's all just data points. Digest it, research it, and then make your own decision on what's right for your situation. I wish you the best!!
u/DustysMice · 2 pointsr/Anxiety

Holy crap I feel the same exact way as you. I didn't start opening up about whats going on until about 2 years ago and that has seemed to help everyone understand what is going on with me. I also haven't been diagnosed with anything and haven't taken medications. Idon't have a very high stress job, but even going to work every day has been a challenge and I find myself wanting to escape by noon. However, I know I can't leave so I force my self to stay at least another hour, see how I feel, then stay another hour, ect. I just take things slowly when I go through times of high anxiety

I was a very shy little kid and I'm pretty sure I had social anxiety, but my parents never did anything about it. I've been dealing with panic/anxiety attacks for about 5 years now on and off. I Had my first one during class in college and every time I looked back on that day it just made things worse.

What I have found that helps is going to see a therapist. Shes made me realize that I am normal and that doing normal life things is not going to kill me. I do think it has a lot to do with self-confidence, which is also something I have lacked all my life.

I guess for me its just convincing myself that everything will be ok. Whats in the past is in the past and there is no reason to dwell on it. I like to say the phrase "this too shall pass". I still have days where everything seems scary to me and all I want to do is retreat back home.

Lastly, I take this everyday. http://www.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-5-HTP-100mg-VCaps/dp/B0013OQI1W . It has seemed to really help calm me down in time where all I want to do is flee.

I hope this helped.

u/HonorRose · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

KindCreations has already mentioned most of the important ones to take before/during, altough I would not take 5-HTP before rolling (too much may increase chances of serotonin syndrome - but this depends on the individual) but rather, save it for the day after to help boost serotonin production. I would recommend this compound the day after.

u/Keninishna · 1 pointr/diabetes

Depression and diabetes are correlated but it's super complicated because your brain uses the most carbs out of any organ in your body. One thing that helped me was high epa fish oil. Look for some on amazon, it will level your mood out and do a billion other things to improve your health as well. Just fyi abilify will make your a1c go up and you feeling better after quitting it is because you're dopamine receptors had been sensitized, along with your addictive personality tells me you have major problems with dopamine regulation. Check out tyrosine and macuna puriens the reviews on amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001QG5F0W/

u/lovelytrout · 1 pointr/Dreams

I recently started taking Dopa Mucuna, and have noticed some positive differences in non-lucid dreaming.

This supplement provides a precursor to dopamine. It's possible that only people who need dopamine support will see results with this.

During the day, I have a higher sense of mental well-being, even people around me commented on this. My dreams have been easier to remember, and somewhat more colorful.

Now - about a week after I started taking this supplement I picked up an exercise bike-I was motivated to do this partially because of my improved mental state. During the first week of taking the supplement by it's self I noticed some positive changes in my dreaming and mood, after two weeks of exercising everyday, and taking this supplement, it's like I've leveled up. I'm remembering multiple dreams every night, consistently, and my mood and energy levels during the day are elevated. I'm not new to exercise, but the last 3 years I've been stuck in a sedentary rut. These last 3 years have been mostly crap for dreaming and my dream journal reflects this. Are the supplements helping with dreaming? Probably a little bit. Getting myself into a better physical/emotional/mental state has done wonders.

u/TwentySevenOne · 2 pointsr/MDMA

In that case, 5HTP should be very helpful. I suggest the time release (pressed pill) version.

https://www.amazon.com/Natrol-5-HTP-Release-Tablets-200mg/dp/B001HCHGPC/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1499464306&sr=1-4&keywords=5htp&th=1

I feel a little nauseous after taking the capsule version, these are much better imo. Take two a day morning and night for about 3 days following the roll. It makes a decent difference to me.

Anyway good luck! You two sound so similar to me and my girl I am confident you can make it work.

u/A_Friendly_Sociopath · 2 pointsr/sociopath

This is a nearly constant bane in my life also.

I have found that putting one half of a 100mg chewable 5HTP under each side of my tongue about 30 minutes before I'm supposed to engage in a typically "exciting" event helps a lot, and if I'm unprepared in this regard that simply smiling and acting bashful goes a long way in ensuring that others are allowed to enjoy the event without my cynicism.

Otherwise it takes my feeling a sense of deep personal accomplishment from an event. Like when my current human-project showed me her 1-year token from NA. That was a huge mark of pride for me...but now, two years later, the thought of helping someone else do it again just seems boring. Very much a "been there, done that" situation, even though I know how fucked up that viewpoint on the matter is.

u/TechnicolourDreaming · 2 pointsr/DarkNetMarkets

No problem mate. Haha did you read that Tab article on it? No they don't, well not that I've noticed. I'm pooping normally!

Only thing you may notice is that with Ritalin and Adderall you have this very artificial motivation, like they make you wanna get shit done whereas with Modafinil there isn't this rush and drive to do work but if you take it, sit down and start some revision you'll be able to focus for endless hours without your brain getting tired (and usually resorting to reddit for procrastination). It's also good for waking you up on days when you didn't get enough sleep/you're hungover.

It's a lot more subtle than Ritalin and Adderall, more like an amazing version of coffee.

(If you also drink lots of coffee try taking a capsule of L-Theanine with each mug, completely removes the edgy/jitteriness for me and is the cheapest thing that I've found helps with revising).

Edit: Check out /r/nootropics beginners page

A pretty good supplement that you can buy for cheap on amazon is supposed to be great for anxiety. Personally, I don't suffer from anxiety but I take this supplement because I find that when I drink caffeine after taking it that it improves the alertness and clarity of mind effects and minimizes the strung out, jittery effects and doesn't keep me awake. It is called L-Theanine.

u/Dianiko · 2 pointsr/loseit

Yes, you can find it on Amazon. I use it every night.

"5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is the precursor to serotonin. Most people who have carb cravings have them because their serotonin levels fall. Taking 5-HTP will bring them back up. It also helps with sleep. Best time to take it seems to be about 4 or 5 PM for those who go to bed at the standard 10-12 PM. You can move the dose around to find a time that helps the most with your carb cravings yet doesn’t make you sleepy other than when you want to be. "

THANK YOU. I did not know that. The actual product I use (as cheesy as the title is) is Rave-On. Its a mixture of 5-htp, antioxidants, and electrolytes. I use it after single night shows and love it. But I will def look into that because that does make me nervous. Thanks for looking out for a brother!

5htp supplements you can buy a 30ct bottle for like $8 at walmart. honestly those help me alot, really helps with the cloudliness and just overall mood. its really hard to consistently making critical decisions game to game without something giving out later on in the day. drink water, avoid caffeine and nicotine if possible. get out of the arena from time to time. sometimes i get a bit anxious if im inside the whole time for a tournament. good luck.

RaveON

I usually redose 2 or 3 times throughout the night. We normally end up residing a couple times throughout the evening. 8pm, 11:30, 3:00am. Ready to come down when the sun starts coming up. Granted, we aren't usually at a rave or dance party but at a private residence with close friends. We drink a large amount of water, but you'll want to drink even more if you are dancing all night.

u/larnar1309 · 1 pointr/LucidDreaming

I got mine via Amazon but there are lots of different brands etc. so I’d say have a look around and see what looks best for you!

u/PositiveArmy · 4 pointsr/hulaween

First off, you are adorable.

I am very much a planner, so I plan, overplan, and plan some more. I've been eating healthfully, working out, keeping up my skincare routine. Making lists of what I need to bring in general, then making more lists of what I need to buy, and where to buy it, what I already have. Planning outfits for all weather conditions. A few days before the festival I'll check the weather and finalize the outfits, so I can just put them on without worrying about what I look like (not bringing a mirror).

If you couldn't tell already, I'm a little extra, so I'll be getting my nailzzzz did beforehand. I also get a spray tan (don't judge - it gives me confidence to wear less clothing and less makeup, without the risk of skin cancer). Beforehand I shave everything needed to shave, exfoliate, pluck eyebrows, do a facemask. On the morning of travel, I take my last shower and blowout my hair (as girly as I seem, there's a good chance I don't take a real shower at the festival, lol).

I'll also start taking 5htp a few days before. I ordered this, it got great reviews.

I usually do this before every vacation, but I clean my whole apartment. There's nothing better to come back to when you are dead tired and have been sleeping outside for a week. Seriously.

Not my first festival but my first hula!!! Can't wait to get weird with you beautiful people.

u/safebrowseatwork · 9 pointsr/confession

I was in a similar boat to you: sex with someone new was a mix of excitement, slight fear stemming from performance anxiety, and simply nervousness. I'm sure you can relate to the feelings of emasculation when a man can't be a "man" - we all know it's embarrassing to say the least!

I take adderall, which gives me a permanent dopamine boost all day, followed by a seemingly permanent deficiency at the end of the day and beyond; in addition, I'm exist in a state of "fight or flight" because of how adderall interacts with your systems and pumps adrenaline, always. My libido was absolutely shot and I had similar problems to you. I was getting pretty desperate. I tried a lot of stuff, did a lot of research, tried more things, but ultimately, most, if not all, of it went no where.

I found some forums after entering [ +"adderall" +"libido loss"] into Google (without the [ ]) and found a wealth of information after sorting through the shit. I'd searched before, had varied success, but this time was different - I took the time to dig, research, find, and learn!

Often users of prescription meds like adderall, opiates, or anti-depressants find that libido destruction is a primary side effect, an exceedingly common one; the good news, however, is that loads of dudes are fed up having the same problems and have taken their issues into their own hands - they guinea pigged their bodies, desperate for resolution! These dudes are basically martyrs, so bless them for their diligence and hard work!

The solutions I found were interesting.

I learned that people often take some combination of the following pills; for me, however, I just bought them all and have experimented with doses, frequency, and combinations.

  • DHEA

  • L-Arginine

  • Fish Oil

  • L-Theanine

Adderall also plays with my blood pressure and, with everything else, namely adrenaline, my extremities aren't getting the proper blood flow; since taking these supplements, I now wake up with erections again --something I didn't realize had stopped happening!-- and have erections hard enough to club a seal to death with.

These have been an absolute god-send for me.

If you don't happen to read this, then I hope this helps someone else.

This one from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001QG5F0W/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_IClzybEMP8FS8

Sorry for formatting, on mobile.

Be careful though, this amount is too much for me so I actually have to manually reduce my dosage by taking out some of the content of the caps and taking about 1/2 the stuff. It has helped me quite a bit in terms of giving me that motivation and good feeling, but it isn't enough to keep the focus on a single task. I feel like that is more discipline related and not medicinal. The full capsule amount was making me too giddy.

u/postinondawebz · 1 pointr/Nootropics

Wellbutrin doesn'r raise dopamine so much as norepenephrine.

Do you remember a time in your life where these symptoms were better, or have you always been this way?

Do you masturbate too much?

Do you have drug addictions?

Do you have signs of inflammation?

Do you have stimulation in your life (consistent social exposure and support, goals, curiousity, novelty, adventure)?

Do you have unresolved emotional trauma that you haven't addressed, and are carrying around?

Do you have a good diet?

There are great nootropics options for dopamine deficiency but not worth going into if you aren't going to tackle the cause. For me I take one of these a day.

I just buy this off amazon and it works quite well. It's not like trying to find a potent source of phenibut or piracetam, L-theanine is quite easy to get. Here is a good post on L-theanine's effects.

Also, it is found in tea and other things but not in a sufficient dosage enough to really cause any noticeable effects and is worth supplementing.

The only problem I see with these kinds of pills is you're not supposed to take 5HTP before, during, or even after comedown. You gotta wait to take it like 6-8 hours after you've fully sobered up. Everything else I can see being beneficial though

u/tjmac · 2 pointsr/ADHD

Ever tried l-theanine? You can get a bottle at GNC for about $15.

I just bought a bottle in the mail from Amazon. I've read people on here who use it to deal with the evening comedown. Since I'm giving meds another whack here soon, I wanted to have some on hand, as when I was on meds before I largely used beer to remedy the condition of which you speak. Cool on the brain, but counterproductive for sure. Not wanting to go down that path again.

As mentioned below...action is your best bet. Doing more stuff and being around people helps a lot during depression.

Another thing that I recently found out about that works amazingly well is : L-Theanine

I originally got it because I drink a lot of coffee/caffeine, but it works amazing for stress.

u/AffablyAmiableAnimal · 1 pointr/BPD

I've been taking Zhou Nutrition Calm Now for a couple months now, it mostly is for anxiety, but some report it helping with mild depression, I've noticed it just really helping my general anxiety. That has no caffeine in it. Yesterday I started taking this "natural antidepressant" Enlifta to give it a shot, but haven't noticed anything from it yet. No caffeine in that either. Neither have any stimulants, and no amphetamines as they're OTC. Caffeine never has gotten me like that before either, I have about 200-400mg a day usually to stay focused and power through fatigue at work. I am familiar with amphetamines and legal stimulants stronger than caffeine, that episode earlier was almost like a stimulant rush, but it subsided after a couple hours of it peaking. I don't even know if hypomanic episodes can be classified as lasting that short. I have mood swings and my mood can fall to depression or raise to normal quickly, but that was definitely something else. Maybe it was too much St John's Wort at once, but I don't know if it would even take effect after one day, especially like that.

u/mevanarie · 3 pointsr/Drugs

I've ordered it from amazon a few times now - this kind works wonders for me and isn't very pricey. If you have Prime, it ships free too.

u/TedTschopp · 2 pointsr/intj

Yes. When I do I use 100 mg of 5 HTP when this happens. I would try this before any sleep medication. As I'll crib from the Wiki, it's a naturally occurring amino acid and chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate to serotonin and melatonin from tryptophan. Basically it will cause your body to develop serotonin and melatonin, which will slow your mind down and make you be able to fall asleep.

Caffeine with two l-theanine pills every morning keeps me alert without giving me anxiety.

I forgot what subreddit I read about l-theanine on, but it's derived from green tea and it balances the effects of caffeine to reduce anxiety. It's made a huge difference for me over the past six months. I can't function without caffeine but I'd feel like throwing up all the time from the anxiety before I started taking the l-theanine, even after starting on Prozac.

I'm using this one, they are 100mg capsules. The recommended dose is 2 pills a day but I'm taking 3 or 4, spread out through the day.

One important thing, take it with food - the only negative I've had from this was feeling nauseous when I took 2 capsules without food once. Also, start with 1 a day for the first week and then increase.

Take this with a grain of salt - but it's worth noting that this is possibly the most strongly 5-star biased rating I've seen for an Amazon product. 73% of the 2500+ ratings are 5-stars.

If you don't already I highly reccomend you look Into L-theanine in addition to your caffeine.

It gives you benefits of caffeine but takes away a lot of the not always pleasant effects of caffeine.

So I've read. As far as I can tell, that belief is based entirely on a single study of mice and rabbits (unfortunately I can't access it). It strikes me as remarkably-odd, considering the plethora of human users like myself who have experienced very real effects, both positive and negative.

I'm no stranger to inert supplements...and GABA was most certainly not one of them for me. Unlike many others, though, I experienced decidedly-negative effects, including extreme irritability and exhaustion (yep, it put me to sleep...but not nearly as kindly as Phenibut!)

Medical science is really such a perplexing field at times... :P

u/BlueL4zer · 1 pointr/Advice

If you take anything with caffeine, consider lowering your intake.

Try some green tea as an alternative. It has compounds that will mellow you a bit without making you drowsy (not sedatives)

You can actually get this stuff in pill form. L-Theanine is just about the only thing that stops my racing mind and bouncing leg :P then again I have very acute ADHD, but a lot of people couple a pill with their coffee to take the edge off, or use it for making presentations or general anxiety/over-energy management

u/Yeffug · 16 pointsr/todayilearned

L-theanine. The linked brand and dosage (x2) is what I take to counteract any hangover induced anxiety. Works pretty well. Sometimes after 12 hours or so I take one or two more and life's good. A single dose of GABA on top of that will even make it so I can get a nap in. I am not a doctor and for all I know this could kill you or even me the next time I do it, but from what I've read the dosage that I am working with in the timetable I'm using is nothing groundbreaking. Also, I should be clear, I am not saying to take these things when you are still drunk, that is probably a bad idea. I'm not saying to take them at all, I have just found that they work for me.

u/CosmicDriffle · -1 pointsr/Drugs

The post MDMA serotonin depletion can last a while, up to a week for some people.

Now are you still taking Vyvanse daily? If so, it means you havent given your body a chance to replenish seratonin, this is bad and you would be risking serotonin syndrome. This is very bad and possibly fatal.

So youre going to want to;

  1. NOT TAKE VYVANSE

  2. Not use drugs

  3. Take vitamin B & 5-htp supplements. 5-htp is converted into serotonin and vitamin B is a crucial component to the conversion.

  4. Sleep a lot

  5. Eat well

  6. Book an appointment with your GP, seratonin syndrome is nothing to fuck with

I have had friends who have tried 5-Htp with some results but I have no clue if they have gelatin in them. Maybe St, John's Wort. Both of those are more for depression though.

u/fuckbenzos1346 · 2 pointsr/insomnia

Since you're not on any medication, I suggest you try some of the aminoacids like 5-HTP or L-tryptophan. You may be lacking in serotonin, especially since you've had anxiety issues. Try these aminoacids and DON'T let a doctor talk you into taking an SSRI. They do jack shit and most likely will make it worse.

I stopped taking birth control after being on it for ~5 years because it gave me an anxiety disorder. After getting off it, I noticed I felt way, way better, except the week or so before my period - I would get anxious, depressed, feel exhausted all the time, and binge eat. Turns out, I have PMDD. My doctor recommended that I try 5-HTP, which is a precursor to serotonin. It acts in a similar way to an antidepressant but without all the side effects. I absolutely swear by it and would recommend you give it a shot since the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work. When I'm PMSing, I take 200 mg in the morning and 200 mg in the evening and I'll still have a day or two where I'm antisocial and feel off, but it's nothing like the sobbing, semi-suicidal mess I used to be.

Aside from that, my anxiety disorder taught me that when I'm feeling anxious, caffeine is an absolute no-go in any amount. I also do yoga which helps quite a bit. I learned to control my breathing and calm myself down when I'm feeling crazy anxious. Meditating is still difficult when my mind is racing at a million miles an hour, but I'm working on it :)
