I have a few things that I actually need, but I can't link anything right now(I'll come edit with links when I get to a computer).

Not for me, but my bird would appreciate a couple new perches. Getting his nails trimmed is expensive and it's uncomfortable for him. I'd like to make it easier for him to trim them on his own so he doesn't have to go through the stress and pain of the vet visit.

I could really use a water filter. I don't like the taste of tap water, and bottled water is too expensive. I could filter the tap and try to be a little healthier and drink it instead of sweet tea or soda.

What would make my life slightly better would be maybe a vacuum cleaner. My mom gave me her old one when she moved away, but it doesn't really work. I've tried everything I could do to fix it, but no go. Since we have a lot of animals, vacuuming is a weekly if not more often, chore. A working vacuum would be awesome!

On the more expensive side, a mattress would definitely improve my quality of life. I've never had a new one, they've all been hand me downs or bought used. The one I have now could have been super nice, but the previous owners left dents where they slept in it. So there really isn't any support for my body. Having fibromyalgia makes me have a hard time sleeping, so it would be nice to enjoy the sleep I do get. It also makes me overheat really easy, so I often wake up in the middle if the night burning up even when it's 68 degrees.

Sorry for the wall! I just wanted to put the things I actually needed and give a variety :)

This is an awesome contest and I hope everyone's lives get a little better if they need it! <3

Recently I was in the market for a mattress ($600-900 range) I wanted to get the most for my money and I don't know much about mattresses so I did some research.

Heres what I learned:

Brand Names

Brand names add cost not necessarily quality. When it comes to mattresses the mark up is crazy so that's why you see these sales at the major mattress stores. They wan't you to feel like you are getting a good deal. Usually you can find a mattress made of better quality materials for cheaper from a "no name" brand.

Basically what I found out is that there are independent mattress makers all over the country that use high quality materials and are more transparent with what they use (some even custom pour your mattress [latex] to your firmness specifications for about a third of the cost of the name brands while using better materials at the same time).

Materials and "You get what you pay for"

Basically mattresses are made up of 2 parts that are of concern to you. The support layer and the comfort layer.

The Support Layer

The support layer is underneath the part you lay (lie?) on. It is often made of springs, but it can be latex or air or water it is one of the major factors in how far your body sinks down into the mattress.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is the part your body touches and material determines how much it conforms to your body.

The Materials and Construction

So there are three materials that you will see most often. Poly-foam, memory foam and latex. Each has different properties and usually you will see some kind of combo of both. For example usually a mattress with a latex comfort layer will have a poly-foam support core to make it cheaper. There are all latex mattresses though too. Here is a quick break down of the materials:

Latex: Most expensive, but holds up the best. I think of it as a balance between memory foam and HD or HR poly-foam meaning it is conforming, but also springy. It also does not get a hot as memory foam. And it is resistent to bed bugs. Try to get at least 2" in your comfort layer. Talaylay natural latex is preferable.

Memory Foam: Conforms to your body. Comes in different qualities, weights and thicknesses. I personally don't like memory foam, because it get too hot and when it's cold it gets hard. It also makes me feel trapped. But some people swear by it.

Poly-foam: Usually springier than latex or memory foam. Used in both comfort and support layers. Rule of thumb is to ask about the density. High density foam is 1.8 lbs and High resiliency is 2.5 lbs. Do not buy if it is under 1.8 lbs. that is when you get those permanent impressions.

So is it true that you get what you pay for? Sort of. For a 100% percent latex mattress custom poured by a independent mattress maker you will pay around $1500-2200 because you are paying for high quality materials. A name brand version will likely cost $3000+
You will get much more for your money going "no-name"

Going to the Store

Another thing I learned is that if you go into a chain mattress store it is unlikely that the sales person will know what you are talking about when you start asking about foam densities and latex types or they won't have the answer.

Find a store that sells no-name or local brands and make sure that they will tell you what each layer is made of and what the quality of the materials are or if they don't know they are willing to find out for you.

The better quality of the materials the longer your mattress will last and be comfortable for.

Trying the mattress out is important, but remember even a mattress with cheap materials will be comfortable for a little while until it starts to break down.

Buying Online

Initially I was going to buy a mattress from http://www.brooklynbedding.com/ The guy custom makes latex mattresses for reasonable prices. When I buy a king size 100% latex it will probably be from there. He also sells on Amazon (under Dreamfoam Bedding) and gets excellent reviews:

http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Dreams-Latex-Mattress-Comfort/dp/B00CP85RXK/ref=sr_1_2?m=APCUWEOU23BHI&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1370627773&sr=1-2&keywords=latex

Ultimately, I went to a local store and I didn't have to ask about materials because all of the densities were printed on the label. I ended up getting a mattress for $600 that if it was a name brand with the same materials it would have cost around $1000 or so.

The Coolest Thing I Learned

All the info I learned I got from this site:

http://www.themattressunderground.com/

The guy who runs the site and is the go to guy in the forums is named Phoenix and is insanely knowledgeable about mattresses. Seriously, his mattress knowledge is PhD level.

There is way more info on that site then I could ever remember.

TL;DR

No name mattresses are usually higher quality and cheaper than name brand mattresses. It's all about materials.

Okay so this probably sounds too good to be true but I decided to try a "mattress-in-a-box" thing too and my budget was a tad lower (by like 600 haha I'm a student) BUT I Think I've found the hidden-gem of mattress brands: Zinus. I got mine from amazon, and if you have prime shipping is free.

This is the one I have:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012H0JTMA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

Would give it 7/10 on the 0-10 Firmness scale (which is my personal preference), maybe 5/10 on that memory-foam sinking in feeling, and its held up super well, and only ~$250.

Total satisfaction out of 10 - I'd give it 9/10

Here are some nicer ones:

https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Gel-Infused-Memory-Hybrid-Mattress/dp/B072JV5JZ6/ref=sr_1_8?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1540541827&sr=1-8&keywords=zinus+mattress

Also - if you don't already have Honey - it is the best app/add-on for coupon codes.. like for real I'm not a rep for them haha, just crazy good deals. It automatically tries a bunch overtime you're checking-out online. Link to that is: joinhoney.com/ref/bk7a4o if you wanna check it out!

Is this for daily/permanent use?

I have the Friheten in my apartment since I have a small studio and it's not too bad as a sofa, although definitely not as comfy as other sofas, but that's generally how most IKEA couches are anyway.

As for a sleeper, it's incredibly firm. If you like to sleep in the middle of the bed, you'll be right on top of the gap between the ottoman and the seat. I can sleep on pretty much anything but I still find it difficult to sleep on. You can make it more comfortable by layering blankets or a comforter on the sleeper and lay on that, or you can buy a mattress topper (recommended). I use [this folding mattress] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W67PEY2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it feels like a normal and comfortable bed, but it means it takes a bit longer to set up for bedtime. They also have a 4 inch one as well.

If you really need the extra storage, love chaises (currently sitting on mine with my feet over the arm rest), and don't mind sleeping possibly uncomfortably or purchasing a mattress topper, I'd say it's a great buy. Also, it's not a long-term couch or even aesthetically very pleasing, so that's something to consider.

Sorry for the long review, but I've had this thing for a few months now and use it daily, sometimes even multiple people use it.

u/CoriOreo · 13 pointsr/starterpacks

I'm gonna jump in here unsolicited for a moment --

To anybody who's following this thread, keep in mind that tatami mats are not the mattress, but actually the type of flooring that you would find in a traditional Japanese home. The name of the mattress is a futon, or shikibuton. Tatami mats are considered complementary to sleeping in a futon, because the mats allow for air flow beneath the mattress like a box spring, and help prevent moisture buildup. Genuine Japanese futons are, as far as I've been able to see, pretty hard to find in America. J-Life is one of the only places you can find an apparently halfway authentic one online, but I've never been to Japan so I couldn't speak to how good J-Life is even if I owned one.

The reason I know about this at all is because I was given a dorm assignment in my final year of college for a historical apartment so small, there wasn't space for both a desk and a bed. I had to do a lot of research on mattresses that could be folded up into a closet. I came pretty close to trying a genuine futon, but the cost was prohibitive for something I only needed to use for a year and I ended up buying a memory foam tri-fold instead. I honestly found it one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on, and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a cheap portable mattress alternative.

u/sandman1888 · 1 pointr/Mattress

DO NOT GET AN AIRBED! :-) You can buy a full mattress for under $200 in memory foam from a company called Zinus...they import from China but sell this mattress for almost what it cost to make it. Check it out at this link.https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Memory-Foam-Green-Mattress/dp/B00Q7EVAXO/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=full+size+mattress&qid=1562589505&s=gateway&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-5

After you look at that, THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO is shop at your local store and let them know you saw this product on Amazon and have them show you something comparable. It is very important that you try it out first in my opinion since sleep is a big deal and comfort is critical to getting that kind of sleep. Shopping local is a good thing to do and most of those guys can hook you up.

I am in the industry and DO NOT benefit in any way from the suggestion, just trying to help you out. I write a blog on the mattress industry at mquinn.com for industry people...just want you to know that I am credible. :-) Good luck.

u/Stone-Bear · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I bought a 8" foam mattress from Amazon over a year ago. I was skeptical, but for ~$200, it was worth it (and I needed a Mattress, ASAP).

They sent it to me vacuum sealed, which was amazing! You opened the box and opened the seal.. and there it goes! It sucked up all the air, and filled out super fast.

Its an amazing mattress. Still as firm as the day I bought it. Seriously, this is the best mattress I've ever slept on and it was delivered to my door! And you can't beat the price.

IMO, worth it from Amazon. The foam mattresses are wonderful (Can't comment on spring, but I highly suggest the foam mattresses, they are much more firm than you think!). My only suggestion is make sure you buy a cover for your mattress!

u/nope_nic_tesla · 35 pointsr/personalfinance

While I don't believe you would be able to stay on their Medicaid plan it is worth contacting the appropriate agency and finding out for sure. That could potentially be huge savings.

Some more things I thought of that might be helpful:

  • You will need furnishings in your new apartment. Buy as much as possible from places like Goodwill, Habitat Restore, and Craigslist. You can get basic appliances, cookware, plates, utensils, as well as furniture from these sources very cheap. You should be able to furnish your kitchen with the basics for a few hundred bucks. You can rent trucks by the hour from Lowe's and Home Depot for pretty cheap if you need to haul larger items from the store or to go pick up from someone. Inspect any furniture thoroughly for bedbugs, especially things like couches as that is not something you will want to deal with in the future and can be costly to fix.

  • That said, don't buy a used mattress. It's gross and you're unlikely to get a good deal anyway. Also don't go to a local mattress seller because their markup is insane. Buy a cheap memory foam mattress like this one from Amazon. Your back will thank you and you'll save a bunch of money.
u/ejmears · 3 pointsr/VictoriaBC

I got a Zinus off Amazon after mentioning that I was planning on getting an Endy to a friend. I have the 12" thick King and it's been amazing, probably the best mattress I've had definitely the best value mattress I've had. Almost no motion transfer with someone else in the bed, right on my taste for the soft/firm balance.

I did notice while I was planning towards buying one that pricing fluctuated by about $50 every 10 days or so. Seems the mean pricing is about $475 so wait a bit and it will get there.

u/Kendallsan · 2 pointsr/lakeview

actually, i'd try amazon. we got a really amazing mattress, topper, and headboard/bed frame for about $1000 and they delivered right to our door.

if you are looking for something cheaper, this mattress is shockingly comfortable - we have it in our guest room and my VERY picky best friend loved it. you can get a great bed frame for cheap, too, there are a bunch on amazon.

i'm all for shopping local, but easy is also important.

u/fledglinging · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

I mean, I don't have any back issues or anything and don't suffer from insomnia, so it's possible I just don't know the difference between a good mattress and a cheap one, but I've slept (for multiple months) on super expensive tempurpedic mattresses too -- I would say the cheap Amazon one is a little softer / less firm (so if you need a very firm mattress it might not be the best choice), much lighter / easier to move around if needed (easier to make the bed, too), and just as comfy. I've had great nights' sleep on both. This is the specific one I've had since 2014: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GTCL480/

u/illgetup_andflyaway · 2 pointsr/Charlotte

I have experience with amazon. We bought this memory foam a little over a year ago. Absolutely love it! still wake up regularly talking about how amazing it is. It is a bit of a dice roll, but we had a friend who had purchased that exact one and we were able to test it out at their place. I definitely recommend

u/PM_ME_UR_exGFs_BOOBS · 1 pointr/AskMen

I recently bought a new bed, and I looked through this site to determine what would be best. I ended up going with a latex mattress. I'm pretty satisfied with it. The frame depends on what type of mattress you're getting. You'll probably want a frame and box spring for an innerspring mattress, but everything else just needs a foundation. Also, be sure to get a waterproof mattress cover to protect your mattress.

What I went with, for reference:

https://amzn.com/B002AQNXR4

https://amzn.com/B0051AQXZK

https://amzn.com/B00M169YVC

P.S., buy at least a queen if you're going to have another person in your bed. A double will be pretty cramped.

u/drag0nslovetacos · 1 pointr/BurningMan

If you have the space (or space on top of the roof of your car), I highly recommend bringing a futon mattress.

If you don't have space for an entire futon mattress, but would have space for equivalent volume in a different format and want to sleep like a pretty princess, I really recommend getting two 4" thick tri-fold twin foam mattress like this and strapping them together and putting a king sized sheet over the top. (That's what we do.)

u/ienjoybuckyballs · 1 pointr/Frugal

I bought this brand mattress about 18 months ago for a guest bedroom and everyone seems to love it. It's not a TempurPedic but I've slept on it and it is very comfortable. It also came with free shipping courtesy of Amazon Prime. You really can't beat the price.

I double wrap all of my mattresses in water proof/bed bug proof covers and double the sheets but I bet most people don't. You're really playing the lottery buying a used mattress and that isn't something I would be willing to gamble with, not when you can get a brand new mattress for a couple hundred bucks.

There is also a company called Mattress Firm and they occasionally have $50 for $200 Groupon's. Basically, you pay $50 and get a $200 voucher in the store. You can do the same haggling that you would otherwise but take $200 off the sticker price.

u/obscuredreference · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

I’m so sorry for the late reply. I didn’t see the question until now.

Ours is this one.. It’s firm but comfy. I love it so much that I wouldn’t want to go back to a normal, softer, real mattress.

It also easily folds down in an instant even with the fitted sheet on so it’s super convenient to just put aside when you need more space or to clean up the room.

u/sacesu · 2 pointsr/programming

I bought a DreamFoam Latex Mattress, they're not super expensive and you can customize to the exact firmness you want. I got a 3.5, which is pretty firm (think Ikea mattress firmness) on their scale. The top of it is super soft/cool bamboo fiber, and its definitely the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on.

u/fuk_dapolice · 1 pointr/UIUC

I got a nice, queen size memory foam mattress for 200 dollars off Amazon. I love it
It was over a year ago, im pretty sure this one is it. It's about 30 dollars more than what i paid though http://www.amazon.com/Signature-Sleep-8-Inch-Memory-Mattress/dp/B005A4ON90/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1375058548&sr=8-8&keywords=memory+foam+mattress+queen

This is the one I used. I made the top on three pieces with the middle screwed down and the outer two on piano hinges so I could lift up the edges to access the space below.

The 4" mattress sounds thin but it is super comfortable, the whole family of three slept on there last weekend and no issues. I worried that I might wish I got the 6 inch thick one, but I'm glad I didn't and kept the extra headroom instead.

u/magranson · 2 pointsr/sleep

This mattress from Amazon is firm and has pretty good reviews. If it ends up being too firm you can always put a topper on it and still be under $500. Get some good pillows with the extra savings! Sleep like a king

u/omar_strollin · 11 pointsr/Frugal

This mattress is amazing. I mention it every time someone needs a frugal mattress recommendation on here because I love it so much. It's the best sleep I've ever had for the price of a regular crappy mattress.

The BF and I have been sleeping on it for 10 months and I never have back pain, hardly ever wake up in the in the middle of the night (which I used to constantly on a regular mattress), and his tossing and turning does not shake the entire mattress.

It doesn't get hot as some people worry about either, and no permanent indentation so far. I am 150 lb and he is 180 lb, if that helps.

Plus it can be delivered straight to you, make sure you air it out!

u/SemenInYourStool · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Mine was pretty pricey. I bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092UCN0Y

You can definitely find cheaper ones though, like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Plush-Memory-Mattress/dp/B0088YV7XY

I know you want to be able to move things easily and for free, and I was in the exact same boat, but seriously... the $50 you'd pay someone to move your bed for you will be worth it compared to sleeping on a futon pad. A nice thick memory foam mattress is so, so, so very worth it.

EDIT: This one's only $220 : https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B00474X5DO/ref=sr_1_7?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1481050459&sr=1-7&keywords=memory+foam+mattress

u/WallofCheese · 1 pointr/Tucson

I was rather surprised how comfortable mine is. It has certainly been better than the mattress it replaces.

FYI, one of the reasons that memory foam mattresses can be so cheap is that they ship compressed into a roll about 16 inches in diameter.

Example mattress

u/sarlok · 1 pointr/Frugal

I got this mattress and this frame along with this mattress protector. I've been happy so far and I am sleeping better than before. I have lower back issues and need good support. This is a firm mattress and it takes a couple minutes for you to sink in, especially the first month. After the first month or so it does not take as long for the foam to shape to you.

u/necbone · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

I got a $300-400 king from amazon, it's held up for 6 months so far. Researched it and everyone was pretty happy with it. If it lasts more than a couple years, I'm good.

So far its been great. I bought this one in a "7" out of 10, 10 being most soft. Latex is a fast-acting foam so it has a similar feel to the way an innerspring would react, rather than slow-acting memory foam. Like I said its only been a week, but so far I am pleased and would buy again.

Oh and if you decide to go with this mattress buy it from their website where you can get a 10% discount amazon doesn't give.

We bought a fold up bed online. It folds into a little couch/seat or pulls out into a bed. Our toddler is still sleeping in our bed, so we have this mattress in his room and can pull it out whenever the mood strikes. When we don't use it as a bed, it's folded and we use it for a comfy place to sit and play with my toddler. It's also super handy when someone isn't feeling well, because we will pull it into the living room and we can lay down together and watch movies :)

Milliard Tri Folding Mattress Full, with Ultra Soft Removable Cover and Non-Slip Bottom (Full) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00W67PAPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jR.zDb1QXHN0Q

You can also get one's that will fold into a proper looking "couch" with a back rest.

Hope you guys find something that works for you!

Another Zinus mattress recommendation. I got this one and it’s only $277 on Amazon right now! I bought it in October 2017 & it’s still great. Prior to that I’d always buy $600+ Sealy and Sertas. Never again! We live in good times for mattresses.

u/Solarisphere · 2 pointsr/overlanding

The mattress is a Milliard Tri Folding Mattress I purchased on Amazon.ca. I wouldn't use it as a bed indoors but it seems like it will be comfortable enough to sleep on when I'm camping in the truck. We could have used an air mattress but I want to do some winter camping and I figure this will be a lot warmer.

We've got very limited space to store it when it's not in use so the tri-folding setup was key.

u/AdvantureTime · 25 pointsr/vandwellers

I am well aware that this album is not a detailed step by step. If that is requested, I can make that happen. Most of the bench/beds I found spread width wise, but for my layout I wanted something that went the other way, so this is what I came up with and I am really happy with the amount of floor space it saves.

Here is the mattress I used.

I just bought this mattress off Amazon after someone here recommended it:
http://www.amazon.com/Best-Price-Mattress-8-Inch-Memory/dp/B00GTCAY04

I slept on it for the first time last night and it was sooooo comfy. I was very skeptical at first since it's so cheap, but I'm happy I bought it. I have a twin so I can't tell you for sure that the queen is big enough. However, the twin was exactly the right size.

u/echeveria_rn · 18 pointsr/personalfinance

Or Amazon one for $90- my kids both have this one and it's super comfortable.

i ended up getting this mattress and i really enjoy it. great price. matched with the the malm bed from ikea.

u/WedgeTalon · 13 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I did a lot of research last year before buying a memory foam mattress. Price was very important to me. I ended up with one by DreamFoam: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0092UCN0Y

It's 8 inches of base foam and 5 inches of memory foam. I am a heavy guy and for the almost 1 year I have had this mattress it has held up well. It does tend to sag a tad on my side of the bed, but then I switched sides and that side returned to normal.

I highly recommend checking out the site http://themattressunderground.com before buying. I found this mattress thanks to them.

Edit: forgot to mention, the only thing I wish I had done differently is I wish I had gotten the king size instead of the queen. With memory foam, you lose a little bit of width of the bed simply because the edges are not rigid like a coil mattress.

u/aksack · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I had one of these from Amazon and loved it. It's pretty firm so I would get one of the thicker ones with more foam.

For around the same price you can get a nice memory foam mattress sent to you via Amazon. My roommate and I both have [this one] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0050JL4TC?cache=7d3a78c4c38336227bc8dc580e5d16d8&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1410152954&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1) and it's great.

>That mattress that retails for $2,000 probably wholesales for about $1,000, and the cost to manufacture it was about $500.

Unless shipping and store fronts have gotten crazy expensive you are talking about a 40% profit at each step. Retail products normally have a profit margin of around 5%.

If your prices were accurate ($500 manufacture cost, $1000 wholesale price) then no one would be able to manufacture and sell a bed for under $500 and stay in business... but that isn't the case at all. Plenty of beds sell for those prices and the companies have been around for decades. This is like arguing that prescription glasses cost $200 to manufacture and that you can't buy high quality ones for $60.

these beds are rated extremely well and have been on the market for years (the company, Brooklyn Bedding, has been around since the 90s).

this article says differently than what you are saying, and is more in line with what I'm saying. They do seem to be saying I'm not 100% accurate in my assessment of prices but that is to be expected. Note that they source their information throughout the article.

this company has been around since 2012 and pretty much agrees with me.

Here's a similar 12" thick pillow top mattress and a steel frame, both with free prime shipping:

Extemely strong steel bedframe that eliminates a box spring and fits storage boxes underneath:

I recommend the memory foam mattresses, which are cheap on amazon. I got a California King size mattress from Amazon Prime (delivered in 2 days!) last year:

http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Innovations-SureTemp-Mattress-Warranty/dp/B00B9JIGOS

The Full size version is $329 and comes with 2 memory foam pillows.

I know you said you want to test this before you buy it, but perhaps you could test one of these memory foam mattresses out at a furniture store and then if you like it, but it on amazon.

u/WPeachtreeSt · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

First of all, you really don't want to spend a great deal on time on an air mattress. Here's the absolute cheapest, semi decent looking bedframe I could find: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JGCBH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nwHQDbXYFMMMD. Here's a cheap matress with decent reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005G5RZIY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_uAHQDbG5RQ2R3. Here's a cheap set of sheets/comforter: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Indigo-Plaid-8-Piece-Bed-in-a-Bag-Bedding-Comforter-Set-Full/49909351?selected=true

Nest, throw away the bottles/cans. Eventually, you'll want better quality stuff. But this should last until you're on your feet. If this is your first apartment, the next sets of items you'll need are cleaning supplies, plates and utensils, a plunger, towels, cooking supplies, a first aid kit, and a tool set. After, go to IKEA and pick out a plant and some cheap decorations, a bookshelf for your books, and a rug.

u/nandosman · 1 pointr/IKEA

I wanted something like this. I got that one 2 days ago, and it was fantastic, huge 6 inch tall and very comfy, but it was almost 2 inches too wide for the daybed.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried something like that and can confirm it fits properly.

u/jayknow05 · 4 pointsr/financialindependence

Get your mattress online! There is no reason to spend a lot of money on one, there are really comfortable high quality mattresses available for less than $500. I have this one in a full and have been really happy with it.

u/HeyJustWantedToSay · 5 pointsr/malelivingspace

I can't imagine sleeping on an air mattress every night - I think I'd rather sleep on a stack of blankets and a sleeping bag.

Splurge on a $250 memory foam mattress on Amazon. I've had a 10" one for 2.5 years and I absolutely love it.

This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012H0JTMA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/wweezzee · 1 pointr/Frugal

Yep. I have one of these that I bought almost 2 years ago, as I just graduated college was poor, and had an Amazon gift card.

I got this one:

http://www.amazon.com/LinenSpa-Triple-Layer-Mattress-25-Year-Warranty/dp/B0050JL4TC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373573691&sr=8-1&keywords=lucid+12

I have no complaints except, I might go for the 10" or the 8", as the 12" is just too big and regular sheets struggle to fit it. Its too thick and I suspect the 10" would be the perfect size, but the 8" would probably work fine too.

No complaints about comfort, smell, wear after use, or anything like that. I would purchase again in a thinner model, even now that I have money saved up.

u/yayhooraywoo · 1 pointr/personalfinance

I personally did spend more. I have this and this in a full size. Would recommend both. I get a lot of compliments on the frame/headboard because it looks so much more expensive than the price. Amazon is the bombdiggity man.

u/jermany755 · 3 pointsr/malelivingspace

Yep. mattressunderground and sleeplikethedead were my go-to resources for researching mattresses. I bought this about a month ago and have been very happy so far.

u/benalene · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I've been thinking about getting two futons for my parents and friends to use when they visit us (in nyc). We do not want a dedicated bed for the few times that we have people visit, but air mattresses just aren't cutting it. I do worry about comfort, and was thinking of having the futon plus some tri-fold foam things like this for them to use. Do you think that would be plenty comfortable enough?

u/PowerMonkey500 · 1 pointr/personalfinance

You can get a queen memory foam mattress on Amazon for just over $200. I have one and it's great.

u/TheArts · 2 pointsr/vandwellers

What is your budget?
So I have the 12 inch version of this for my full time apartment bed and love it, cured my back issues, Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam 6 Inch Mattress, Full
the 6 inch is only 100 bucks. I'd imagine you could roll it up when not in use.

Last road trip I slept on a wooden board, with cheap foam, and just camping inflatable 2 inch mats. My back was a mess after 2 weeks on the road.

If it was me and I did it all over again, I'd toss 100 bucks at something decent.

u/EthyleneGlycol · 2 pointsr/chicago

I'll have to get you exact dimensions, but mine sits a little under two feet high and we are using a tri-fold mattress: Milliard Tri Folding Mattress Full, with Ultra Soft Removable Cover and Non-Slip Bottom (Full) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W67PAPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_uDJxzbKNXANCS

This fits snug across the width, from window to window, and folds away nicely to not make you have a bed that is permanently in the way or immediately accessible to the dogs after a muddy walk.

See my other post for photos.

I'm interested in other's thoughts on Sleep Innovations mattresses as well. I'm saving up for this one right now...

u/TRextacy · 3 pointsr/simpleliving

I slept on one of these for a while and found it comfortable. When it's folded up, it's not quite firm enough to sit on but you can lounge on, back against the wall, or use it as a footrest with a chair.

As far as a desk, have you looked at something like this? I have no idea about the quality of that (this particular one looks kinda cheap in my opinion) and depending how handy you are, you might be able to make that yourself as well.

u/rocketwidget · 1 pointr/Frugal

www.themattressunderground.com is a fabulous resource for mattress buying. Spoiler alert: The mattress industry mostly wants to screw you. Buy independent/factory direct, almost never name brands.

Here's a specific guide to buying based on budget. A sub $500 budget probably means a "throwaway" mattress, which doesn't mean you can't find something comfortable and supportive, only that it's unlikely to last more than a few years.
http://www.themattressunderground.com/mattresses/style-preferences-and-statistics/your-budget.html

Here's an excellent value mattress, but $600 for a queen.

Edit: I forgot: I'd stay the hell away from used mattresses. One particular reason: Bed bugs are Satan in bug form, and there is no way to be sure a used mattress doesn't have them.

u/wtcnbrwndo4u · 2 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

Probably this one. Though I'd probably recommend this one for $50 more.

u/tufool91 · 1 pointr/Frugal

An 8" foam mattress (Queen) is around $200. A 6" is around $150. Full would be a bit cheaper. If your parents already have a box spring/ bed frames, then this could be a nice replacement.

u/DavesNotThere · 1 pointr/ChronicPain

I have chronic low back pain. My favorite was an old fashioned water bed with a softer mattress. My wife hated it for a few reasons so we got rid of it.

Now we have a pillowtop mattress with gel in it. "Ultimate Dreams P/T Gel" by Brooklyn Bedding, available on amazon and made in Phoenix. I think it's called DreamFoam Bedding on amazon. If you contact Chuck (like the listings say, he's very helpful).

EDIT: I searched and searched for a good bed and a fair price, these guys were the ones.

u/shellibelli · 2 pointsr/TinyHouses

Maybe it isn't full sized furniture, maybe it's just a matress on the floor like this one from amazon. Although the length would be tough with angles and stuff.

u/gl21133 · 4 pointsr/vandwellers

https://amzn.to/2wIDRNd is the exact one. We previously used something like this: https://amzn.to/2NLuZgW . BIG upgrade with the new one.

u/zaphod4prez · 1 pointr/vandwellers

I have this one (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00W67PEY2/ref=psdcmw_3732981_t1_B00NB2NOJI?th=1&psc=1) as my primary bed at home and I love it! The two things I'd say you should know about them is that you want to find a way to keep the foldable sections pushed together, otherwise they slide apart a little bit (not awful just slightly less comfy) and this may be obvious but they do sink down and take on the shape of basically anything underneath them. So if the space under it is kinda lumpy I'd just buy a 4x8 piece of quarter inch MDF at a hardware store and put it underneath the mattress.

u/non_consensual · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

This what I got. 20 year guarantee, made in USA. I had back problems before but not anymore. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9JIGOS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=webtoolandtec-20
