I've also compiled some prices for the games I mentioned. You'll be able to get started within a few days for around $50.00. I had to find used, because some of the older ps1 games are collectors items new and apparently sell for $200.00

PS2, used from Amazon: ~33.00 including shipping
LINK

Crash Bandicoot 1, used from Amazon: ~$11.00 including shipping
LINK

Crash Bandicoot 2, used from Amazon: ~$8.00 including shipping
LINK

Spyro 1, used from Amazon: ~$11.00 including shipping
LINK

Spyro 2, used from Amazon: ~$8.00 including shipping
LINK

Spyro Year of the Dragon, used from Amazon: ~$12.00 free shipping with prime
LINK

Spyro Enter the Dragonfly [This one is probably the last decent on in the series, used from Amazon: ~$6.00 free shipping with Prime
LINK

Sly Cooper 1, used from Amazon: ~$5.00 including shipping
LINK

Sly Cooper 2, used from Amazon: ~$6.00 including shipping
LINK

The entire list comes to about $100 it total. If you sit down during every free moment and play, those games should last you at least a couple of months. However, those are just my suggestions. I've found Amazon to be really reliable for a used marketplace, but you'll also want to try a store like gamestop. They usually have this huge basket full of ps1 and ps2 games. If you pick one up and think it looks interesting, get it. There are a lot of hidden gems for these consoles. Good luck :)

You have a couple of options. These are the things you will absolutely need:

  1. A capture card - For PS2, I highly recommend this one. It is the best SD USB card for the price.

  2. The right AV cables. For a sharper image, use S-Video instead of the yellow composite video. For S-Video, you'll need a cable such as this one You don't have to use S-Video, but if you're going to stream, I recommend it.

  3. A powered splitter - This is to take the video from the console and pipe it to two different sources, your capture card and your TV. I have two of these splitters and they work wonderfully. You will only need one. It is a one-in, four-out splitter, so two of your outputs will remain unused unless you have another source you need the video to go to.

  4. AV cables to go from the outputs on your splitter to the TV and capture card. For the connection from the first output to your capture card, you can use a standard male-male S-Video cable. For the second output that goes to your TV, it just depends on what kind of TV you have. If you're playing PS2, I recommend using a higher-end CRT, in which case you can just use male-male composite cables. If you TV has a native S-Video port, then just get a second male-male S-Video cable.

  5. A PC that can handle streaming - I know this sounds vague, but you wouldn't believe how many people attempt to stream even SD consoles with a GV-USB2 on laptops pre-2010. When OBS or XSplit is open and streaming, your processor will be in use. If you do not have a decent processor, streaming will bog your PC down.

That's about all I can think of. It's daunting at first when you're trying to imagine how everything would be set up, but I promise it's not as difficult as it sounds. If you have any other questions, just reply here and I'll do my best to answer.

For you Because Kingdom hearts is a fantastic series, even if the DS games aren't quite as awesome as the PS2 games. ;)

Just a few suggestions based on nothing but some stuff I like myself. Hope you find something cool! :)

u/ZetaStriker · 2 pointsr/tales

Kind of. Not as-is, but there's a pretty cheap thing called Swap Magic that allows it. It's basically a disc the PS2 loads that helps it bypass region locks, the only trick is you need to remove a screw from the disc tray and use what's called a "slide tool" to manually open the disc tray while the swap magic disc is in there. It sounds more complicated than it is, it's pretty easy, and it in no way alters or modifies your PS2 aside from removing that screw.

Here's an amazon link to what I'm talking about, for reference:

https://www.amazon.com/Swap-Magic-Coder-2-Disc-Slide/dp/B001BZCECU

I will note that I don't believe this works on slim PS2s, so you may want to double check the list of compatible model numbers and compare it to your PS2 if you have one.

u/Hunteazy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Get this and a USB drive 2GB or under. I'd recommend a 512 mb one to be safe. There are versions that come with a specialized USB drive but any USB stick below a certain size will work with the save manager.

After that you'll have to find .max format FPWR saves. Pretty simple from there.

u/X-the-Komujin · 1 pointr/armoredcore

Does it look like this? Does it have an ethernet port in the back? If so, it's a slim. However, I think some newer models may not support FMCB. You can just pirate the Nexus copy, I don't think anyone realistically cares. With that being said, once you get back to your PS2, if you will any time soon, then I can tell you how to get FMCB and the like.

You may want two memory cards for this, though. Or one large memory card. FMCB installs on your memory card and it's a huge file in comparison to most standard memory cards.

With that being said, it may be a pain to set up, but every single Armored Core game in Gens 1-3 other than Formula Front is supported flawlessly (as far as I've seen) via OPL (Open PS2 Loader) and POPSTARTER. Loading times might be a bit shorter or longer, but I've never had any sort of jarring gameplay issues that may be present on emulator.

If you're wondering any of the costs:

  1. If you need memory cards: Link - $13

  2. Cheap USB Thumb Drive Link - $5

  3. Swap Magic: Link $25

If you already have a cheap thumb drive lying around as well as spare memory cards, you only need to pay 25 bucks. You can use this to get cfw on your PS2 and then you can use a SAMBA connection to play your PS2 games. You can trust me on this as I'm not only a moderator of this subreddit, but also a moderator of /r/PS2, /r/PS3Hacks, /r/PS3Homebrew, /r/PS4Homebrew, and the PlayStation Homebrew discord server. I'm open and willing to help anyone on this.
u/Slumber_Naut · 1 pointr/todayilearned

Back when Dance Dance Revolution was huge, I bought the home dance pad. I would bust out my sexiest socks and play for hours. I'd invite every friend I had to come over just so I could beat them mercilessly and show them how awesome I was. After about 3 months, every time I would go to sleep, before I was actually asleep, those damn multi-colored arrows would start scrolling in my head. They crept into my dreams often.

I never should have given away my dance pad.

u/Shady_Bloke · 2 pointsr/gaming

Someone else mentioned the baldurs gate games. They're fantastic. So fantastic that the baldurs gate 2 dark alliance disc for ps2 sells for over 100$ lol

I'll address the pad differences first. While it's true that most soft pads are shit, red octane makes higher end soft pads, these ones use grid detectors similar to the ones found in hard pads. Detection on them was never a problem. Sliding however, was a problem. When playing dual pad, they would slide away from each other to the point that you wouldn't be able to finish a song. I fixed that by grabbing some zippers from a military surplus store and fixing the pads too each other. The larger surface area increased grip on the floor and stopped them from moving around mostly. We never had any issues with sliding after that.

As for stamina improvement, why is it so surprising that 2-4 hours of working out every day for 3 months can increase your movement that drastically? First time marathon runners will often do a 16 week training regimen before their first race. It's not uncommon at all for couch potatoes to go through this and find themselves able to run 26.2 miles at the end of it. I'd argue that a child whose body can heal faster could easily achieve similar results in 13 weeks with an increased regimen. Also though, you mentioned in a later post that you used the bar a lot to stabilize yourself - this reduces the total energy expended during a song. Using soft pads, we didn't have this bar, so we were forced to control our body weight (resulting in a harder workout). Also note that as a competitive player, your focus is on final score, which means you will approach the game trying to maximize the efficiency of your movements so as to hit every step. As kids, my brother and I tried to maximize the difficulty of songs we could simply pass. We would challenge each other to do the song at 2x speed, with increased jumps, even going so far as to modify the step files to add new moves into the song. Hopefully that will clarify some things for you, but feel free to argue any of these points. I'll always make time to validate my claims.

u/TheWolfKin · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My entry is done.

I say this at the end, but I am so terribly sorry for subjecting you to my absolutely terrible singing voice. It sound good to me when I'm actually singing (you know how we all hear our voices different than they sound to other people/recorded), but when I hear the recording, I honestly sound absolutely terrible.

There are definitely entries here that deserve to win far more than my lame attempt, but you'll have my attempt as soon as it finishes uploading.

Also, my favourite video game is a tie between Kingdom Hearts 2 and Final Fantasy X, though Ni No Kuni is up there too.

u/Dioxy · 1 pointr/ps2

I'm thinking of getting this one since the reviews are good. Do you know if there's an easy way to tell if it's actually 128MB or it just uses compression? Apparently compression is what causes data corruption in a lot of the third party memory cards.

u/DrLeper · 1 pointr/silenthill

I think that's kind of an elitist attitude. Also keep in mind that the PS3 version has received a significant patch:

> It fixed a number of problems such as the frame rate and voice sync which were greatly improved. Missing sounds and music had also been fixed along with the fog density issues. Other minor visual/audio problems were also improved.

The HD version is definitely not the best version but there's nothing wrong with wanting to play it over a $60 copy of the ps2 version which would probably look terrible on an HD tv or monitor. These videos look pretty good.

u/5349 · 1 pointr/EmulationOnAndroid

The Dog Island on PlayStation 2. Cute kid-oriented RPG, but I liked it enough to play all the way through.

u/Peacelovefleshbones · 0 pointsr/ps2

So, idk why I feel compelled to tell you to use a wireless controller, but I bought this one and they are fantastic. The one downside is that the buttons aren't pressure sensitive, which is only a problem in certain games that took advantage of that feature (I'm so sorry, guard in MGS2 who I tried to interrogate with an automatic rifle). Otherwise, it feels just like a DS3 but for a PS2.

Not only was I 250 when I started using it, the two I had were used by friends 4+ hours a day and for DDR club once a week with tons of people not being careful at all.

the one he linked seems to be about the same thing and certainly cheaper (2 for the price of one of mine basically) so I think that would be a good starting point for you.

I purchased a 128 MB memory card from Amazon. Specifically this one.

It works perfectly fine. I've tested about 20 games, and have not had any issues with it.

Loads of people have used this one on Amazon. It's $9 and it comes with next day shipping if you got prime and Amazon benefits like free refund if someone steals it off of your porch.

I have it and its 100% confirmed working on loads of random devices including emulationstation projects. The ports are backwards for some reason though. The controller port on the right side is port 1 and left side is port 2

In the absence of a functional Xbox emulator to play that port of Fatal Frame 2, you're going to be using PCSX2 to play the PS2 version. Good news is that Fatal Frame III got reprinted a little while ago (about a year and a half ago?) and is easy to pick up for about $25/new. The bad news is that Fatal Frame II sold out quicker and the price is floating back up. Chances are there isn't going to be another reprint, so you either snap it up now or you wait for it to get added to PSN (in which case you wouldn't be able to play it in PCSX2).

u/randyy101 · 3 pointsr/KingdomHearts

Is there any chance one of you can post a picture with the connection of the power cable to the brick? (or the brick itself). I live in the UK and the US plug won't be very useful, so I was wondering what alternatives to a basic adaptor I could use.

I have a netbook that has a two-socket connection to the brick. I wonder if that would do the trick...

Now that I think about it, would there be any voltage issues in general? Never really occurred to me...

Edit: After doing some further research, I should be fine (although a picture of the brick label would be cool).

So, main question: What input does the brick have? Is it something like this?

u/ynmsgames · 7 pointsr/KingdomHearts

The Door at the end of the game, after you beat Ansem, was not Kingdom Hearts. It was the Door to Darkness. Only beings of darkness can pass through it, and it led to the Realm of Darkness, thus the heartless. Riku and King Mickey are beings of light, so they can't pass through. Kingdom Hearts was inside the door, but it was a fake Kingdom Hearts created by the worlds lost to darkness. It dissipated into light after you defeated Ansem.

Sora chose not to go with Kairi because he wanted to search for Riku. The mural has no significance other than to hide the Navi-G piece inside. Kiari's heart went inside Sora's in this scene (When Destiny Islands fell to the darkness)

I recommend you play Chain of Memories before KH2, or at least watch the cutscenes.

u/BigSnacks28 · 0 pointsr/PS3

so something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Dualshock-Controller-Black/dp/B00004YRQ9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348854374&sr=8-1&keywords=ps2+controller

I see that comes out to around $20 - half the price of the ps3 controllers.

I also see a lot of knockoff controllers at around that price point, but I guess the official ps2 controller would be a little bit better quality?

u/crimsonandred88 · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

The power cord from an original Playstation would probably fit that.

here's the message i got:

Hey there! What you want is a PlayStation 2 Dualshock Controller (usually ~$15-$20 on Amazon.com) and Etokki adapters.
Sony PS2 Pad - http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Dualshock-Controller-Black/dp/B00004YRQ9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367430086&sr=8-1&keywords=ps2+dualshock+controller

Etokki PS2 to PS3 Adapter - http://etokki.com/iNPiN-PS2-to-PS3-Converter
With those two adapters and a PS2 pad, you'll be all set to play no matter what the available system is. It's all lagless and Etokki is run by Koren player Laugh, so everything is legitimate and no worrying is necessary :)

u/Shlappz · 17 pointsr/smashbros

I'm willing to put in the work if it's realistically doable. I was just wondering where I might begin.

I was thinking maybe buy one of these and then figure out some way to fit in a rechargeable battery. I may have a problem with holes for the battery to charge and the on/off switch though. I already own an official clear blue PS2 controller so I have a shell, and I also have a black third party wired controller I can practice with so I don't mutilate the good one.

When the PSC booted up after putting this new AB release on the USB drive, it only asked to map one of the controllers rather than both. There seems to be no way of separately mapping the second controller within AB, so it's also mapped the same exact way as the first player. I did not try mapping it separately within the emulator's settings, but I was hoping it would just natively pick it up from the initial AB mapping because it's a real pain to have to map the controller for each game every time I open it. Also, neither the D-Pad nor the analog stick seem to work on either controller if I select that the D-Pad is not analog. I don't believe the original PlayStation had an analog D-Pad, so I'm not sure why that is. Not a major issue, just something I noticed.

It’s a ps2 guitar, I think you’ll need something like this but I’m not sure

You can get them really cheap if you look around for one.

Also, isn't that a ps2 power cable?

Consider an official used one from Amazon.com.

Hey man, if you do end up buying the PIU pads. I found an adapter that works with Stepmania. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J4JVFXI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/iNToXiQator · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Why not buy a PS2 then? you can get it for $50 currently

u/ApogeeHardware · 1 pointr/CloneHero

I believe this is the other one they recommend. I'm unsure if it will allow two guitars simultaneously, but hey it's cheap.

While their metal pads are crap, I've never seen anyone specifically have problems with the foam pads. Mine is working great going on 6 years, with heavy use for 2 of those years. It's lasted longer than 2 previous Red Octane Ignition.

These are all new, not used. Multiple for $15 w/prime and others for $16+ w/shipping. Regardless, the point of my post was that KHII is both not rare and not expensive as you seemed to be implying. I'm not sure what you're trying to prove.

[Fatal Frame 1] (http://www.amazon.com/Fatal-Frame-Playstation-2/dp/B00005V9NH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371343196&sr=8-1&keywords=fatal+frame) & [2] (http://www.amazon.com/Fatal-Frame-2-Playstation/dp/B0000AI1KK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1371343196&sr=8-3&keywords=fatal+frame) are pretty scary/creepy. You're literally in a haunted house/castle with nothing but a camera to defend yourself. Specific scares: The first Hanged Woman ghost startled me so bad, I had to take a break for a bit. The crawling child in the doll room is just gyuhhhh both in terms of scares and difficulty (and bonus gyuhh for "doll room") I liked the second game better, and there's a third I haven't played.

[Kuon] (http://www.amazon.com/Kuon-Playstation-2/dp/B00024W1TM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371343349&sr=8-1&keywords=kuon) is one that came in under the radar. Another haunting, though at least this character brings a bit more firepower than 35 mm film... Don't want to spoil too much, but the atmosphere and storyline have a really great creeping dread that gave me freaky dreams for MONTHS after.

To start things off, what doesn't work:

  • The X-Box 360 controller does not work with these games. It is not entirely supported. The triggers are not recognized properly, and there are issues with the right stick.

What seems to work (But can we get some confirmation from /r/gaming?):

  • Logitech controllers set to DirectInput mode (i.e., Logitech F310), or older controllers that have compatible input modes by default (e.g., the Rumblepad 2?)

  • Playstation 2 controllers connected via a USB adapter.
u/FuriousDee · 1 pointr/emulation

It just needs to register in Windows as some kind of controller. Once that happens x360ce will work.

The adapter I'm seeing on Amazon is HID compliant - no drivers, just plug and play.
https://www.amazon.com/HDE-Dual-Controller-Adapter-Converter/dp/B01J4JVFXI

You need to hunt down your exact model of adapter, and look for drivers I guess.

Just a follow-up: KH2 is $14.99 on Amazon right now, without any special sale. I haven't looked, but since KH1 is older it's likely cheaper. This is without considering things like sales, or buying used.

So, $60 is a bit much if it's only for KH1 and 2. That said, I'm not sure what all is included in the bundle you're talking about, but I remember Chain of Memories not being very good.

u/Cold1percentmilk · 2 pointsr/4chan

Most of those games are old as fuck & the rest I haven't heard of. You should buy a playstation 2.

I picked out the cheapest one for you bc I know your monthly allowance got a lot smaller since your step dad came to live with you.

A new copy on Amazon runs about $70 USD, but you can get a used one for around $30. Thing is though, the way the game was made (specifically, the use of the Snowblind Engine) makes it almost impossible to run on an emulator. Therefore, anyone that wants to play it at all is forced to obtain a physical copy, with little to no other alternatives short of hard-modding your PS2, which has kept the price relatively high over the years. This ten-year-old game is as expensive (or more so!) than many brand-new titles.

u/hyperventilate · 1 pointr/gaming

There's one on amazon.

It's barely under your 50 dollar mark.

Edit: There's also way cheaper ones listed here but they might be hinky or damaged.

u/Ineeditunesalot · 2 pointsr/Flipping

> I always assumed the Buy Box was the lowest price.

Nope, check out this listing for PS2

https://www.amazon.com/Playstation-2-Console-Black-Pc/dp/B0000C7GHG/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1468592597&sr=1-2

I dont know if you see what I See but buy box is $80 while there are much cheaper options from $50 (with no cables and controllers)

I always wondered what would happen if one of the guys selling it with no cables got the buybox cause you're not allowed to do that

u/ryan770 · 2 pointsr/CloneHero

I have this one, this one, this one, and this one.

The SG is about 25-30ms behind every other guitar I have, which is a lot.

It's playable, but fiddling with the calibration setting in between hitting the notes too early so they break on the strikeline, and hitting them at the correct time where they don't go past the hit window is annoying, and there's no reason to deal with that.

This one? I was thinking about buying it, but was worried it was fake. Yours is legit? What seller did you purchase from?
