Congrats on the MC!

I have two MCs....

  1. Invest in a water fountain! Cats naturally don't drink enough water (which is why they tell u wet food is better to feed ur cat than dry food)

    https://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-Drinkwell-Platinum-Fountain-Drinking/dp/B000L3XYZ4/ref=sr_1_5?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1542680300&sr=1-5&keywords=platinum+water+fountain

Also, cats don't like their food and water in the same spot . I found my cats tend to drink way more water and it stays cleaner when they are in different areas. Previously i was cleaning their water daily because my silly cats were dropping their kibbles into the water, or their food was getting sugar ants.

  2. Your new baby will need a scratching post he/she can grow into. My boys use this one religiously (we have 3 posts scattered around the house) but this is their favorite because they can stretch all the way to the top. WARNING: its massive. its very sturdy and pretty wide so if u have a smaller place this may NOT be the post for you.

    https://www.amazon.com/MidWest-Homes-Pets-Scratching-Extra-Durable/dp/B00JEADDCO/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1542679782&sr=8-9&keywords=cat+scratching+post+for+large+cats

  3. Food: my kitties were fed taste of the wild at the breeders, but I transitioned them to Orijen cat and Kitten Food. Extremely pricy but as far as dry food goes some of the best.

    https://www.amazon.com/Orijen-Dry-Cat-Kitten-Food/dp/B01I3IBQG2/ref=sr_1_4?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1542680125&sr=1-4&keywords=orijen+cat+and+kitten+12

  4. Cat litter: My previous cats developed issues from the dust from clay based litters. We switched over to something more natural when i got these MCs...like walnut shells!

    https://www.amazon.com/Naturally-Fresh-Multi-Cat-Quick-Clumping-Litter/dp/B00BPA12MO/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1542680260&sr=1-7&keywords=blue+litter

  5. Cat Shelves - If you have a blank wall i definitely recommend this! We had to tweak ours a little because the shelves we purchased were entirely too small for Maine Coons. And also had to add supporting brackets. Everyday its a fight on who gets the cat shelves! and if its in a common area, its definitely a way for them to be present and still in their own space up high.

  6. Pet insurance. If you can afford to get ur kitten Pet insurance I recommend this. Maine coons since they are a larger breed are prone to things like hip displaysia, HCM, and other genetic diseases. It makes caring for them a little easier as they get older. We use Healthy Paws Pet insurance for our two Maine Coons and i highly recommend them! I want to say as a kitten they started out between 10 and 20 dollars a month?

Everyone has given u a lot of wonderful advice here! Some of which i actually wish I knew when i was getting my babies! Good luck and enjoy your new kitten :)

I live with my boyfriend and cat in a 400 sqft studio. It's a bit cramped, but we've made it work. Our little kitty is such a happy cat with no desire for the outdoors beyond her window. Below are a few tips

Things that are a must:

  • A clean space. Cats need some space to go crazy kitty and to chase their toys. If you have clothes all of the ground it makes it harder for them to "hunt". Also, the cleaner it is, the less your tiny space smells like a litter box. When people visit us they're amazed that you can't smell that a cat lives there. You only know by her overwhelming paraphernalia stashed around the apartment.

  • As other posters have said: Vertical Space. We have a small three tiered tree by the window that our cat LOVES. It was relatively inexpensive from Amazon. It's got three small platforms and goes all the way to the ceiling (the top part is like a plastic piece that inserts into the tree with a spring to stabilize it with the ceiling). She runs up and down that thing all the time, perches to watch us, etc. I disagree that all of the tops of things should be accessible to your feline friend. Living in a small space means you have to make the most out of everything. The top of our fridge, cabinets, and bookshelf are full of things that have no where else to go. So, we found something that would work. Ideally, we want one more tree for another spot but we're waiting until after the holidays.

  • A nice window spot. She doesn't get a lot of scenery changes, but she likes looking out every once in a while. As poor college kids, we just have a sheet over the window by the couch. It makes a perfect hiding spot and a great visual stimulation.

  • Separate areas for food and litter. For us, food is by the cat tree in the kitchen and litter is by the desk on the opposite side of the apartment. The bathroom would be preferable, of course, but ours is way too small.

  • Rotating toys. It's a small area, so we keep things fresh by rotating her toys. The staples are her jingly balls but she also has a couple types of mice, pumpkins, crinkly balls, and feather balls that we hold onto and change out about weekly.

  • A play time routine. OP this is crucial! If you don't want a cat who wants to play all night with nowhere to go but the sole room of your place, have a daily play time that wears her out.

  • Ample scratching spots. This is a must with any cat, but imo the destruction is more noticeable in the smaller space. Our kitty has three places she can go, and she uses them happily. Very rarely does she try to scratch something she shouldn't.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Scavenger hunts are too much fun! I should be working! RAWR! Thanks for the fun break =]

1.) Something that is grey. My name is makeup and I am grey! WL

2.) Something reminiscent of rain. This color is called "Naughty Nautical". Nautical = water, water = rain. =D?? WL

3.) Something food related that is unusual. Pretty sure most people don't have teeney shaped veggie cutters. WL

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) This is for my two parrots! My quaker especially loves dried papaya. I'm teaching her how to fly right now and have been using food as a reward, but we ran out of papaya a couple of weeks ago, and our local bird store has been out of stock for a long time. Turns out that Whole Foods doesn't carry dried papaya either. Rawr! WL

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I had heard about this when the movie came out in English. I liked the movie and then moved on with my life. Come this spring, I found myself facing a LOT LOT LOT of driving by myself, so I started borrowing audiobooks from the library. I borrowed all three of these books and REALLY enjoyed them. It wasn't at all what I expected. They're murder mysteries with a lot of themes about violence against women. When I learned about the author, it became that much more interesting. The author wrote these books with the intention of making 10, but died after the third one. They found them after he died. The themes about sexual violence stem from a gang rape he witnessed as a teenager. He never forgave himself for not being able to help her, so he channeled all those emotions into his writing later in life. Anyway.....interesting stuff. Good books. I recommend them :)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! Pfft.

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) If I was a cat, this would be my JAM!

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. Dresses are admittedly useful for avoiding public indecency charges, but not really useful beyond that. BUT LOOK AT THE RAINBOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WL

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Not on my wishlist (it's on American Netflix though!), but everyone should be aware of the impact of plastic on the environment and our bodies. Education is everything. Plus, there's a newborn baby at the end.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. 1. Stab zombie in the skull. 2. ??? 3. Profit. The reviews rave that it's super sharp and doesn't stick so it probably wouldn't get stuck in their skull like other knives. WL

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. I don't know if I'd use the word profound, but it would sure help me out. A big passion of mine is learning to ID birds. I'm pretty good at most birds, but finding information on juveniles is VERY difficult sometimes. I've used this book before to help identify birds in hand, but I think the information regarding juvenile plumage would help me identify young birds from afar. It's even part of my job to identify birds! WL

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. This is an Add-On item, but it's also a hair addon =P Not on my WL, but I'm losing my hair like crazy so I might have to look into these >.>

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? This isn't the most expensive item on my list (that was #8), but it's the one that would help me the most! When I do field work, I tend to have a lot of gear on me at once, and the extra strain of binoculars around my neck tends to give me some really freaking sore muscles. A harness would be MUCH easier on my shoulders/neck/back. I start field work again in October, so I plan on buying it for myself by then anyway =] WL

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave. This is larger than the average bread box.

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. I am smaller than a golf ball! WL

16.) Something that smells wonderful. This smells amazing!!! I'm infatuated with cinnamon, but had to stop using cinnamon Crest YEARS ago because I developed a bad reaction to it. This stuff is expensive, but the company is very environmentally responsible and I feel good giving my business to them. WL

17.) A (SFW) toy. This seems pretty SFW unless you're playing Cards Against Humanity. evil grin WL

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. I used sticky notes all the time in school! WL

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. I've obsessed with birds since I was 11. I've been obsessed with rainbows forever. I'm currently obsessed with sushi. THIS IS ALL THREE! WL

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. Hear me out! This baby can keep ice for DAYS. Sitting out in the sun for hours on end? NO PROBLEM! YOU'LL HAVE ICE AT THE END OF THE DAY!! Seriously, Thermos needs to pay me for how much I rave about their stuff. My water bottle has still had ice in it after three days AND being refilled twice. No joke.

This beauty was made in OR.

I think as long as you give your new friend a lot of one-on-one time with you, and put up things like a cat tree and maybe a windowsill hammock for sun-bathing (like this: https://www.amazon.com//dp/B00FDU5JO4), a kitty would do just fine in your apartment, fully indoors. With plenty of love from you when you're home and toys to play with when you're gone, kitty will be okay alone during the day- although they do love company, so if it's possible to get 2 at the same time, who are already bonded, that would be ideal. Honestly 2 cats is really not much more effort than 1, you just have to budget a little more for food, vet, litter, etc.

The whole indoor/outdoor argument is really a personal choice- some people think it's cruel to keep cats inside all the time, some think it's the best and safest place for pet cats. I have had 4 indoor-only cats with me in as small a space as 450 sq ft (temporarily) and none of them is the worse for it. They're spoiled rotten and don't seem to realize that the outside world is anything more than a giant entertainment screen to be looked at through the back door for their amusement.

The only thing is, do not let a cat out onto the balcony unsupervised at the 5th floor, a fall from that height could be disastrous or even fatal. There are some cool cat tents you could use for some fresh air time though, they're small enough to fit on an apartment balcony. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002KWHE1E

And last of all, thank you for saying you'd like to adopt a cat. If you don't have a ton of time and energy to chase around a blazing ball of fluff and attitude, you may want to get an older cat rather than a kitten. Even by age 2 they've calmed down considerably from their demonic-possession kittenhood (and I say that in the most loving way possible), while still being lively and ready to play at the drop of a hat.

Best of luck to you. If you do get a fuzzball (or two) be sure to update and let us know!

I assume this was targeted at me, just fyi since you didn't reply directly I didn't get alerted!

Things like a fan (~$60) dedicated to him in his room, and an elevated bed (~$21) to better facilitate keeping him cool that we managed to fit in his crate (orange may have pics?).

Some items to save US headaches include rug tape (~$15) to keep him and our stuff from getting slid around as he plays, a light-weight crate (~$86) for when we bring him with us to places and need a place for him to lay down and relax, mainly for when we are doing stuff with our other dog.

LOTS of clickers were purchased just so they are always handy. Some other oddities, like balance balls and stuff just to get him used to being on strange surfaces. This is mainly to set him up for future competition success, though.

Bitter Apple spray to make sure he doesn't chew things he shouldn't (rugs, shoes, couches, chairs, base board, electrical wires...basically anything that isn't his toy got sprayed daily for the first few weeks). Lots of Natures Miracle & paper towels to clean up any accidents.

I’ve been there! Here are my ideas:

Maybe a glowing led dog collar or a reflective dog vest for night walking? A dog raincoat is nice to have in the rainy months.

Pet beds always seem to need replacing.

I know you said she has a good vacuum, but one year I bought my parents a roomba for pet hair. I also bought them an eye vac because they sweep their kitchen so frequently and I thought it might save them from having to bend over so often.

You could buy ornaments with their names on them or pictures if she doesn’t already have them. You could also consider having pet portraits made by an Etsy artist or from r/artstore & r/hungryartists .

I’ve purchased catnip bubbles after seeing many internet cats enjoying them. However, my old tortie was NOT impressed. She prefers an actual plant that she can murder. You could grab a few plants. Heated cat houses are also a thing.

When all else fails, animal lovers generally seem to appreciate donations in their honor to animal welfare charities. Good luck!

u/vampire_kitty · 2 pointsr/catpictures

lmao To be fair, ALL cats are weird. I think that's partly why we love them so much. :) My cat already used a cat bed similar to the one I got which is heated - this one to be precise - so she took to this one right away. It gets warmer when she gets in it though it's always a bit warm to help attract her to it. If your cat loves heat as much as you say, might work. But, as you say, some cats can be assholes so who knows? Best of luck to you and your heat seeking kitty!

u/fluffy_cat · 2 pointsr/dogs

I have had a cat for the last 13 years and we only recently got a puppy. At first the cat was scared and nervous, he hid upstairs and acted strangely for a while. Eventually, the cat got used to the puppy being there and started being aggressive and dominant towards the dog. The dog soon got the idea and started leaving the cat alone.

Now our pup is 7 months old and he and the cat tolerate eachother pretty well. The cat has adapted by spending more time on our counter, which we have had to allow, meaning he can be fed in peace and can escape the dog if he likes. The dog seems to like the cat and can get pretty excited to see him, but the cat can keep the dog at bay by hissing.

We are now comfortable with leaving the two alone in the same room for an hour or two, but they certainly aren't friends yet.

___

In response to your post, I think having a dog-free zone is an absolute necessity. If your cat can't escape from the dog to feel safe, I think they are much more likely to be aggressive. As well as potentially setting aside a room, also think about some kind of cat tree so that the cat can get used to being around the dog but be safe from being chased.

Naturally, this all depends on how relaxed your cat is. Some cats will be very tolerant of an excitable puppy but ours has probably got a bit too used to being away from threatening children/other animals.

u/EmeraldLight · 1 pointr/cats

Purchased on Amazon.ca for an, imho, amazing price. Shipped in a week flat, free shipping. Yay.

I read a review that stated the mouse only lasted a day. Mine wasn't even fully assembled, the platform the mouse was attached to was still sitting on the table, and my damn cat (Pickles) chewed it off the string and ran. Typical.

The tree itself is amazing and quite decently built. As you could see, my cats loved it before it was even fully assembled. The only cat missing is my huge orange and white DLH, Apollo. He gets scared when "stuff" is happening.

The tree is covered in an insanely soft "faux fur" that's glued to the wood, unlike cheaper trees where it's only wrapped around the wood. This means it's not going to slip around as my cats launch themselves off the platforms.

It smells very new when you get it, and it sheds a lot initially. But after a quick vacuum, all was well! Of course, the smell will go away eventually.

So yes! So far, I love it. Ask me again in a few days, hehe.

u/mobscura · 4 pointsr/cats

You can say "No" or "Down" sternly when your cat goes somewhere you don't want him. You'll have to pick him and move him several times while you're saying this to get the message across.

Cats love to climb, so get him a tall cat tower and encourage him to use it. Pet him on it, give him treats/catnip while on it, etc.

Sleeping? Cats will sleep wherever they damn well please.

Claw trimming: Whenever you're petting/playing with him, massage and touch him paws gently. This will get him used to having his paws handled for trimming. Use a trimmer like this, and I recommend doing it when he's feeling lazy and sleepy. Gently push the claw out to trim it. Here is a good claw-clipping guide. You can always ask the vet to demonstrate if you're feeling unsure.

Handling the sand: Just scoop the lumps with something like this, put them in a plastic bag, tie the bag, throw it away, and wash your hands.

u/million_dollar_heist · 1 pointr/cats

Try getting one like this one, this one or this one

Using catnip or catnip oil will make it more attractive to her. I can't guarantee that she'll never scratch the furniture, but most cats prefer things like this that have a better texture for scratching.

Owning two cats is really in many ways easier than owning one. They become lower maintenance. Of course you have to spend slightly more time feeding, cleaning the litterbox, grooming etc, but the cats are happeir, better behaved, and much more pleasant to spend time with, which in my opinion is worth the small amount of extra effort.

u/DiscoKittie · 6 pointsr/kittens

Get a good set of cat claw trimmers (honestly I use a pair of wire snips similar to these, they work the best for my skittish kitty). Get him used to them. You don't have to cut them very short, just nub the tips a little. :) I have one cat I have to do when he sleeping, he's a biter when it comes to nail trimming time! :D

Get a rope wrapped scratching post, and/or a cardboard scratching thingee one of the slanted ones. Cats need to scratch things, it helps them shed claw layers. If you don't give them an outlet, they will go after the furniture.

Have fun with him! Love him lots and lots!

u/CourtingEvil · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Dang girl!

I just got this cat tree for my cats. They love it! I think it's of a pretty good quality, and if they rip it up at all, I can fix it quite cheaply and easily.

You seem to have very similar tastes in video games as me, so I would recommend either the Mass Effect Series or Rune Factory 4. I haven't played Rune Factory 4, but I've loved the other games in the series and I think you might also really enjoy it!

I'm indecisive, too, so I'll probably end up buying myself a ton of games & movies once I'm back home

Edit: Forgot to put an item in my original post

u/NotSuzyHomemaker · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I would buy the dog metal dishes. Plastic can get full of icky germs unless you wash it constantly. And then the teeth marks =P

  • Car Safety Harness
  • A car ramp if you have a truck/SUV. This can be especially important as they get older.
  • Potty training doorbell - just raise their paw for them every time you take them out to potty and pretty soon they'll be doing it to let you know they need to go.
  • Raised Bed - these are good if you guys like to be on the patio or what-not. Keeps them elevated a bit but still able to enjoy the warm weather. Also good inside as they get older.
u/BrooBu · 3 pointsr/cats

I got it on Amazon! Shipped in 1 business day and was super easy to assemble. Looks like they are out right now though. I took a lot of time comparing different cat trees and this one had the best reviews and the company actually makes solid stuff (from a few other things I've purchased from them) and have good customer service!

We have this one: Vesper Cat Furniture, Walnut, V-High Base https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SOTG05S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2Gg8BbSRZTMPF

It’s on the smaller size (4 feet) but works well for our younger and adult Siberian. The top is a bit small for our adult Siberian but he still seems to love it and sprawls out on it even though he’s big for it. It is a nice looking tree and looks good in our house.

Ohh my gosh I love the iPhone 4/4s case, as well as the wallets! Beautiful. My current favorite thing on Amazon is this cat tower: http://amzn.com/B004BA6LSK because it is modern and so much more aesthetically pleasing than all of the other cat towers I've seen! However, it is also much more expensive, which is why I don't have it yet...

Um...how about some cat magnets. Cat butt magnets.... They are pretty darn cute!! But maybe not great with a 1 year old unless you have a whiteboard way up.

And I love this cat sleep sack!

But with a toddler, I LOVED this for eating out. Suction cups, rolls up, catches food, washes so easily. I had one and used it all the time!

u/Neebat · 1 pointr/cats

I'd suggest starting off with something more like a 5- or 6-foot tree.

For example, this is about $100 including shipping.

Look for platforms that have railings. My cats won't sleep in a place where they're worried about rolling off. I'm hoping the hammocks on this new one serve the same purpose.

Also, cats seem to disregard the first 2-3 feet of the tree from the floor up. Even the kitten goes straight off the second level on this tree, and ignored the bottom house on the old one.

If your cat is declawed, that makes a HUGE difference (and it's a very bad idea.) I've never gotten a declawed cat to climb, even when structures should have been good enough.

Otherwise, if you're building your own, I'd suggest nothing but verticals and maybe a ladder for the first 3 feet. (Healthy cats will ignore the ladder, but kittens and the elderly might use it.) I've been amazed how much my cats want to be UP VERY HIGH. And that's why I got the 8-foot tree. I've got one that will happily hide out in the ceiling if she can find an opening. (We had a leak, so there was a hole.)

Put it near a window or in a central place with a nice view. Cats LOVE being able to watch the world.

u/theRacistEuphemism · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Lol, I got this one but my cat is small and slim (9lbs). When I bought it, I was also living with a bigger and clumsier 13lb cat and he liked it too, but I don't know how well it holds up to any bigger. Back then it was against a wall and would shake a bit when the 13lber jumped on it. It's free standing now and doesn't shake when the 9lber jumps on it, but generally speaking she's always been a better and more graceful jumper anyway.

u/reddog093 · 5 pointsr/Shihtzu

As a basic guideline, the primary goal is to keep them out of the sun and try to cool their paws and tongue when you can.

My buddy goes nuts for YoPup Frozen Yogurt for dogs, which is a great way to cool him down on a hot day!

Proof! :D

He also has an elevated cot that I keep under a table outside. Nice way for him to sit in the shade and cool off a bit. At my parent's house, he found his own spot under a shady tree in the grass and can sit there for hours. But he usually comes inside once it's too warm for him.

Not trying to advertise...I have no interest in or connection to this product, but....we bought two and our Bengals LOVE them...especially in the summer...they soak up the heat/sun through the window and love watching critters outdoors...suction cups keep it firmly mounted to window (doesn't work well on windows with small individual panes). We mounted high on a sunroom window above a cat tree so they can escape to a high perch. https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Products-Mount-Window-Kitty/dp/B01CHMHR04/ref=sr_1_34?keywords=window+cat+seat&qid=1574772174&sr=8-34

Lasers! My cats (and dog) go crazy for lasers! They are relatively cheap and provide hours of fun. My absolute favorite item for cats has to be this because I find it hilarious: https://www.amazon.com/SUCK-UK-Cat-Scratching-Deck/dp/B006YR6EK8 Any cardboard scratcher will work though. My cats love theirs and it keeps them from scratching on the couch.

K&H Pet Products EZ Mount Window Bed Kitty Sill Green 27" x 11" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CHMHR04/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QSERBb6M1Z3MA

Yes it’s from Amazon- only 20.91! Looks nicer than the photo, has a gray wool-like pad inside. Tried a few cat beds but our kitten seems to love to spy on neighbors and sleep in here.

u/Emilyks2012 · 3 pointsr/Pets

You can make an outdoor cat hour out of big storage bins, old coolers, or tons of other old stuff that you could find cheaply and easily at a Goodwill. Check out Youtube for some tutorials.

Also, Amazon sells these which I can attest will keep your kitty very warm, not cost anything in terms of your energy bill, and are washable (we too have a cat who likes to pee). Other than that, make sure your kitty gets plenty to eat, and as long as you don't live somewhere where the inside of your garage is going to drop below 40 degrees or so, you should be good.

u/trampledbyriley · 2 pointsr/entwives

Adopting an adult cat is awesome! I personally have to use an acrylic bong, because my cat is the shove-it-off-the-counter-for-attention type, but that's just me, and it doesn't bother me. She likes to sit with me when I smoke, so I just blow it away from her. She's gotten smoke a couple times but it doesn't seem to bother her.

Also, I recommend this cat tree if you get a smaller cat. Ours was sturdy and didn't wear out very fast at all, ordering a new one.

Thanks for the replies. These are all the things we bought so far:

Bed

Feeder

Leash

Toy

I think I'm going to buy a harness and cage in person because I want to make sure its the right fit.

Oh and here's a picture of the little guy :)

u/dnf007 · 6 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

I had good luck on Amazon. I've bought this one and Go Pet Club Cat Tree.

My little dude loves sitting on these and staring out the window at birbs and squirrels.

u/sciamatic · 7 pointsr/Atlanta

She should be fine until the 20th. Also, if she's just growling and hissing at your cats, then they'll probably adjust to each other in a couple of weeks.

But there are also heated cat houses on Amazon that're great for feral or stray cats. I have this one. It is NOT waterproof, so don't leave it uncovered, but it's great for outdoor kitties.

u/IHateSt-Louis · 14 pointsr/muacirclejerk

My dad actually built hers! Something about being retired and the closest thing to a grand kid he's going to get....

Here is a cool one on amazon though :)

All time favorite was my Logitech mx518 mouse. Got it in 2011, still going strong.

Also I have to say, looking back through my history I realize I have lost a lot of the books I've bought... Makes me kinda sad.

We really like the feaandrea cats trees on amazon! We got this one for our boy. We’re already thinking about getting this bigger one next and putting the smaller one in the living room since he loves being on the perch so much. I find it very sturdy and there is also a strap that you can screw into the wall.

u/falsemyrm · 3 pointsr/Dogtraining

We have one of these for our newf mix and she likes it enough that we have two of them. Most cooling mats are only cooler for a little while.

Bonus if you put a box fan in front of it.

These are all super similar to cat trees I've made:

http://www.amazon.com/Go-Pet-Club-Tree-Beige/dp/B003WGGWQA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1420558215&sr=1-2&keywords=cat+tree

Window hammocks are also pretty swell. And you can buy grass patches online!! If you decided to do a cat tree (which will give you lots of options for height and hidey holes) make it yourself!! Store bought ones are generally crap. All you need is PVC pipe, nails, boards, and carpet scraps (which can often be gotten for supa cheap at carpet installation places)

u/Lettuceout · 5 pointsr/Thisismylifemeow

I just ordered that exact one off of Amazon but in brown. Both my kitties love it. Won't break your bank either.

u/Blondeambitchion · 1 pointr/DobermanPinscher

I like the Kirkland bed we got from Costco - if smelt bad for a few days so we left it outside to air out but it had held up decently - I know a lot of Doberman owners who prefer the elevated beds like this: https://www.amazon.com/Original-Elevated-Pet-Bed-Coolaroo/dp/B001HX4280/ref=sr_1_11?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1486058987&sr=1-11&keywords=Dog+bed

Memory foam also tends to keep its shape a bit better than regular stuffed beds

u/Middleclasstrash · 3 pointsr/CatAdvice

My cat won't use that kind, but will use something like this (which you can even put catnip in)

maybe he'd enjoy that instead? Mine no longer scratches furniture after we gave him that.

They have them on Amazon for anyone interested.

I have to say, I wish the base was plastic instead on cardboard. One of my cats likes shredding cardboard so that thing would be toast within a week or two in my house :(

u/LadyVanya · 1 pointr/PetBehavior

The cat sounds like it's bored and has pent up energy. Pets are like little toddlers: If you dont entertain them, they will do it themselves and it can be destructive at times. Here are some things you can help redirect and expand say energy:

Hunt/play:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BA6LSK/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004X6UEH6/

These are just some ideas. Also go to your local pet store. If the cat doesn't like the new toy, usually they will let you return the toy for a full refund.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Knowing my dog, he would enjoy rolling around in it. Maybe even an afternoon nap.

And then in 2 days, there's going to be a rip on the side with foam hemorrhaging from it. The only dog bed that has lived for long is this.

I think most of the ac unit actually sits outside, and the part that's inside wouldn't be big enough to hold a shelf or a cat. You might look into one of the shelves that use suction cups on the window like this, if the window is tall enough. There are lots of shelves on this principle, and they are rated for different weights.
