240hz Dual Monitor Streaming PC

Video encoding for streaming is now more cost-effectively accomplished by the gpu rather than by the cpu. So we just need a 6-core cpu for gaming and the strongest NVIDIA gpu that fits the budget (AMD gpus still have poor encoders).

I have included two monitors because you will need a second monitor so that you can see what your chat is saying.

Fortnite Competitive Settings 1080p

  • Competitive Settings: Low preset, Epic textures, Epic view distance, 100% 3D resolution
  • Average fps: ~250
  • 1% low fps: ~180
  • Benchmark Video

    Streaming Performance:

  • Nvenc (gpu) encoding will reduce FPS by about 16% in Fortnite. As you can see from the link, this is much better than cpu encoding which would reduce FPS by about 24%.
  • All Nvidia cards from the Pascal and Turing series (10XX and 20XX) have dedicated Nvenc encoding modules. All cards from the same generation have the same encoding power.

    Windows 10

  • Use Microsoft's Windows 10 creation tool to get free unactivated Windows 10.
  • The only downside is a watermark in the bottom corner of your screen. Watermark will not show up on stream/recordings because you'll be using screen capture or game capture mode rather than screen capture.
  • You can always activate windows later if you choose.

    RGB Components

  • RGB Case fans (x3)
  • RGB Keyboard
  • RGB Mouse
  • RGB Headset
  • Blue LED Desk

    Explanation of Part Choices

  • Cpu: Best value cpu at this price point. Comes with a good stock cpu cooler which you won't need to replace unless you want to do heavy overclocking.
  • Motherboard: Cheapest standard ATX motherboard that is guaranteed to be compatible with Ryzen 3000 cpus without needing a BIOs update. Ignore the PCPartpicker compatibility warning, the MSI's MAX series motherboards are all compatible with Ryzen 3000 cpus.
  • Memory: 3600mhz is the price/performance sweet spot for Ryzen 3000 cpus. 16GB standard.
  • SSD: Cheapest 1TB TLC NVMe SSD with a dram cache and a 5 year warranty (make sure you register to get the warranty). NVMe SSDs are ~3 times faster than traditional SATA SSDs. TLC SSDs are much faster than the cheaper QLC SSDs in sustained reads/writes and do not slow down as much as they fill up.
  • HDD: 2TB will store a very large amount of your gaming footage for later uploading to youtube.
  • Video Card: Strongest NVIDIA gpu that fits the budget. We cannot use the AMD video cards because they do not have good video encoders for streaming.
  • Case: This is the cheapest case with reasonable airflow and addressable RGB fans. It has a tempered glass front window, tempered glass side window, three ARGB front intake fans, one rear exhaust fan, and a PSU shroud.
  • Power Supply: 7 year warranty. 550W is more than enough for this 339W system while leaving plenty of room for future upgrades. Modular for easier cable management. 80+ gold efficiency.
  • Primary Monitor: Cheapest 240hz 1ms 1080p monitor. Very good reviews. Your PC will easily push 240fps in Fortnite on and as a streamer you will want every competitive edge you can get so it doesn't make much sense to settle for a 144hz monitor.
  • Secondary Monitor: Cheapest 1080p IPS panel monitor with a large sample size of good reviews. It is 23.8" which is as close as we can get to the 24.5" of the primary monitor.
  • Keyboard: Cheapest backlit, tenkeyless, mechanical keyboard with Red-style key switches. Cherry MX Red key switches (and generic clones like these Outemu Red switches) are the preferred switch for gaming because the have a linear feel, light actuation pressure, and low noise. We want a tenkeyless keyboard so that it is shorter, giving more room for the mouse.
  • Mouse: The G502 is the most popular gaming mouse. It is generally less popular in other esports games, but its extra buttons are particularly useful for Fortnite because of all of the building hotkeys. It is one of the more popular mouses among professional Fortnite players according to prosettings.com. Other popular choices in this price range include the Razer DeathAdder Elite and the Corsair M65 Pro.
  • Headphones: This is the best mid-range gaming headset according to most sources. It is basically the cheapest headset that checks off all of the boxes: good sound quality, build quality, comfort, and a microphone that can rotate out of the way when you're not using it.
  • Desk: The Eureka Ergonomic Z1-S Gaming Desk is consistently featured on the "Best computer desks" lists and has a huge sample size of good reviews. It comes with a cup holder, headphone hook, controller stand, game storage and an extra-large mouse pad for your gaming keyboard and mouse.
  • Mouse Bungee: The Razer Mouse Bungee V2 is one of the most popular bungees and has a large sample size of good reviews. It is weighted so that it doesn't move while you're gaming. If you want an even more secure bungee you should look at the Cougar Bunker which uses a suction cup to ensure that it will not move. I didn't recommend the cougar one because it's less convenient if you want to adjust the location and because the orange logo seemed sort of out of place with the rest of this battlestation.
  • Chair: The Smugdesk Ergonomics Mesh Computer Chair is extremely well reviewed and comes with adjustable everything to ensure a good ergonomic fit. I know $190 seems expensive for a chair, but one of the most important life pro tips is to never cheap out anything that separates you from the ground (mattresses, chairs, shoes, etc) or your body will punish you eventually. Do not get one of the racing-style "gaming" chairs because they are overpriced and their ergonomics are usually very poor. You would have to spend ~$350 to get one with good ergonomics.

So, non-GPS apps first:

Military Mountainerring that shows how to handle yourself in mountainous terrain.

[Army Survivor Guide](https://play.google.com/store/search? hq=army+survivor+guide&c=apps) (I use the one by Milodroid) is great for learning the necessary skills to keep yourself alive - especially if something goes wrong.

First Aid (I use one by AR Medical). As is always the case, make sure you know how to use the app/book before you need it. If nothing else, know what to do if someone stops breathing, goes into shock or has heat stroke.

Compass - I use Smart Compass. They're not as reliable - strictly IMO - as a standard compass, but they work. The one I use integrates the camera making it easy to aim at an object for orientation.

Moon Phases. There are lots of them, and some weather apps have them integrated, but I got my for free off Amazon App of the Day.

Weather (I use the Weather Channel app.) Always good to have and every phone I've ever seen has one already integrated.

Google Sky Map is awesome for finding constellations and planets at night.

Now for GPS (and related) apps:

All Trails is used mostly for finding trails in an area. It's certainly not an exhaustive list, but really cool if you travel and like to hike in new places.

Google Earth is good for recon and importing tracks into.

Alpine Quest - after a lot of trial and error I chose this over Backcountry Navigator, Androzic, MM Tracker and Google Maps. The feature that sealed it for me is setting different maps up and changing their opacity to see multiple things at once. I normally use a topo map at 100% opacity and a Google Earth map at 30%. It puts barely visible landmarks on the map with the topography.

(But, I wasn't unimpressed with any. All had their strengths and weaknesses - Alpine Quest included. But, I got to where I needed to choose and went with Alpine Quest.)

My Tracks is good if ALL you want is to import a track into Google Earth. (It's easy to do this with Alpine Quest, too, but I'm guessing it uses more battery than just tracks.)

Easy extras:

Without links... The kindle app is really nice - I can take multiple books with me. A music app is great, too. Also, my camera (on my Incredible 2) is pretty good, considering, and it's easy to get out and use.

I would keep it in your pocket or pack, instead of on a hiking stick. I suppose they could compensate for movement, but if it's in your hand, it seems the speed and such gets messed up as swinging back and forth seems to count. However, use it as you're most comfortable, obviously.

Not an app:
I've seriously considered buying something like this - or even a few of them - to have extra power so I don't need to worry about running out of juice.

Never travel without the 10 essentials unless you are 100% positive you won't need a piece. (For example, I hike out my back door (literally, which is AWESOME) and am never going so far I need an emergency shelter. But, I always have a first aid kit, an emergency kit, and a map/standard-compass just in case.

Happy Hiking!

Also, sorry for making two comments, but I recommend that you sell off stuff you don't want, especially the smaller and lower quality pieces that many start off with as first pieces.

Here's some links for specific stands that I recommend. They should be versatile and are budget friendly.

U-Stands. Great for highlighting pieces in the back of displays and adding accents, sometimes can be rotated to create a two level effect.

Easel Stands. Good for displaying slabs or even books.

Sliding Stands. Good for vertical pieces, and can hold much more than you would think. Really wide pieces can start adding too much weight, so don't push them too far.

Peg Stands. Subtle and easy to incorporate into any display. 1 2 3

Slotted Acrylic Stands. Meant to hold labels so they're easy to see for pieces in the back or on higher shelves.

I am in a one-bedroom apartment, and my sewing space is also our dining room! I'm so jealous of people with a dedicated craft room, sigh.

I bought a 2x4 Kallax unit from Ikea and put the wheels on it. Two of the eight compartments have small drawers for holding pins, my rotary cutter, zippers and other notions (currently sorted into labeled ziploc bags), and all the other small bits and bobs. The other compartments have the felty-cardboard bins to hold fabric, patterns (in comic book boards/bags), and the bigger items. I have a nail driven into the right side to hold rulers, and my craft books are lined up across the top, as well as the plastic organizers that hold my thread and embroidery floss. This is an Instagram post that shows it a bit better. Parked next to it I have an organizer cart to hold WIP's. (The link goes to a rainbow one, but mine is black, to match the Kallax unit I chose.)

My most frequently reached for items (scissors, marking pencils/pens, seam ripper) are in a coffee cup on the top of the unit, along with a container for holding waste like snipped threads, trimmed fabric scraps, etc. (It was a mason jar, now it's a pig-shaped container that used to hold lychee jelly snacks.) I also have a little box that usable scraps go in as they get cut.

I love organizing products (The Container Store is basically heaven to me), but really the big thing is having a space for everything -- and remembering to put things back into their place when you're done using them. Unfortunately, there's no magic product or trick to make that last part easier. I often have stuff scattered around when I'm actively sewing, and I have thought about making a little organizer like this one or this one, but haven't gotten around to it. I do my best to put fabric away once I'm done cutting, and sort out trash and usable scraps immediately and dump them in the proper places. I've also gotten in the habit of setting my small scissors and seam ripper on top of my sewing machine while working so I know where they are and I don't have to hunt for them under other things.

I basically let myself make a mess while actively sewing, but make myself tidy up at the end of the day so we can have our dining table back. I'm honestly not sure if I would have that discipline if I could close the door on it at the end of the day, though...

I have a plastic bin under my desk that I rest my feet on most of the time, but I like my feet up high. My feet dangle too (like you mentioned - I have to keep my chair high enough that I can comfortably use the keyboard and mouse). You can find step stools of different sizes at HomeGoods, Marshalls, etc, or Walmart/Target. It doesn't have to be something fancy and expensive. This cushion looks comfy.

Good luck! I know it's a pain. It's something I don't even think about anymore b/c I've had the same set-up for so long, but it was really tough when I was pregnant to find a comfortable solution.

Here's the footrest. The memory foam feels amazing, especially during long sessions. You can also adjust the angle of the footrest very easily to get that perfect fit. Definitely would recommend it.

I'm too lazy to type it out again:

> I've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,500 on chairs (Herman Miller Mirra and Via Swopper) but I prefer my $68 Swiss Ball Pro.
>
> If you decide to go the exercise ball route buy a nice burst proof one. Emphasis on nice. The stuff Walmart sells and the cheaper stuff Amazon sells is garbage. I also recommend a stabilizer ring to keep your ball from rolling away and to keep your ball away from any sharp stuff on the floor. I use one of these:

When I sit I use that. I regularly switch between sitting and standing. When I stand I use http://i.imgur.com/nldh3WF.jpg.

Edit: That's a WorkFit-S HD but Ergotron has plenty of different configurations:

Edit 2: If I was in the market for a standing desk today I wouldn't buy the WorkFit-S HD. It was a fine choice back when I bought it but these days you can get a nice frame for less:

Sure, you look like you're carrying a private toilet seat everywhere you go, but whatever, your butt is supremely comfortable.

In regards to charging the second battery, this universal battery charger is on Amazon for 9 bucks shipped. It's well reviewed, only 2 of the dozen reviews gave it 1 star, both claiming incompatibility with a phone, and both had a response from the manufacturer offering to help them via their CS channels. I think that bodes pretty well, I might look into that.

However I'm also considering an external charger as an alternative, this is also excellently reviewed, prime eligible, 2900 mAh, and is only $26.

u/Disburden · 4 pointsr/CrossStitch

There's a couple of things off the top of my head, but of course I don't know your budget or her taste. There is a drawer organizer for storage, StitchyBox sends a box of stitching supplies and fun stuff. If she like Heaven and Earth designs they have similar boxes but you have to know her preferences. That's all I can think of at the moment!

For those of you that don't want to fork out $$ for a new chair, I got this seat and back cushion on amazon and its awesome, made it feel like a brand new chair, gives great support, and it has held up for over a year now without issue. I got it on sale for like $25 but im sure there are other brands that are cheaper (it's currently $37) and just as good! My only gripe with it is that the straps that hold the back cushion up don't tighten enough and it slides down and needs quite a lot of adjusting every time I stand up or move pressure off of it.

I ordered a Rock-N-Roller cart after I had to carry my drums two blocks for a gig.
It’s the best thing I’ve done. I can fit my whole kit (4 piece) with a big SKB hardware case and load in with one trip. And when it’s folded down it takes up very little space.
Saved time and my back.

There’s different sizes. Just find what you think would work best for your needs.

I just linked the first on Amazon, but I think it’s a good idea to get something that will keep you from having pain from sitting in the same place a long time. Makes the whole day easier.

Like others have said, multitasking, conference calls and studying at low intensity works fine, but concentrated work on the bike - not so much. I have a bike desk set-up and a treadmill desk setup. I prefer the standing desk. It is easier to type, better for posture and I can wear normal clothes and shoes. I do real work at walking pace all day (1 mph). I don't track any metrics. The pace is too slow for a footpod to work properly. If I need to sit I put an exercise ball on top of the treadmill. I chose this sit/stand desk frame after reading dozens of reviews. It's heavy and sturdy at full height https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XYS42HL

u/guestlogin · 1 pointr/IKEA

Thanks for posting this. It's not narrower per se, as the base is telescopic. You can purchase the frame by itself, and get a table top from Ikea or somewhere else and drill your own holes.

I personally ordered the Jarvis frame, as I'm done waiting on IKEA. There also appear to be some potential benefits with the Jarvis desk.

  • Digital control with pre sets.
  • Telescopic width.
  • Lifts more weight (although I can't see myself needing that much).
  • Shipped to your door (fast shipping when purchased on Amazon).
  • No sales tax (probably to anywhere outside of CA and OR).
  • It's in stock!

    Good luck to everyone.

You could try something like that. I think it's meant for food and the like, but the Switch should fit and the vent holes can be used to run cables in and out.

Any generic lock box should do the trick, just make sure it's big enough and be prepared to drill holes for cables if it doesn't already have some.

This, it's to keep the case off my carpet. The PSU fan feeds out the bottom.

I love that it's called a "cpu stand." haha.

u/jivedinmypants · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ideally you'll want at least 2-3 inches of clearance off the ground for the sake of your PSU and 4-6 for every other side that has any sort of air flow just to make sure the air can travel properly. What I did was got a CPU stand like this one and put a plastic mat under it (like the kind you use for wheeled office chairs) to ease getting it out from under my desk for periodic cleaning/dusting.

u/badlcuk · 1 pointr/cscareerquestions

Really? Most up to date offices will have something if you request it. My company just has ones that sit on top of a desk and they can rise and fall--no dedicated standing desks. Something like this except our original ones were only about ~$200 as they're just a platform we put our laptops on that we can rise/fall. Or we stand at our kitchen areas hightop tables. You can find cheaper options. Walldesks are particularly cheap.

u/jarkyttaa · 2 pointsr/JobFair

If you're interested in getting one for yourself at some point, I really like this one. It just sits on top of your existing desk instead of being a huge desk in and of itself, and it's roughly 1/3rd the price of a full-sized variable standing desk. I ended up just getting it myself without going through my office and it's been pretty noticeable so far. They have smaller models that are more appropriate for a single-monitor set-up, but the large one works really well for 2.

u/rhandyrhoads · 1 pointr/Guitar

Would something like this do the job well? I believe we used this same brand back when I was in marching band when we had to transport the subwoofer and monitor to and from the field and it held up pretty well considering how much we put the cart through.

u/gg5 · 1 pointr/travel

I always like to stay connected. So I inform myself about 3G prepaid offers for every country before i go there. You will always be able to find offers between 10 and 15€, sometimes even including some voice minutes. However, having data access is sufficient as you can use VOIP to make calls.
In case you go to remote areas, it is worth checking the network coverage maps of the local providers to see whether you will have signal there.

Furthermore, having a way of charging your mobile on the go is super handy. I build myself a MintyBoost but you can also buy stuff in the normal retail market.

Have a good trip!

u/FewReturn2sunlitLand · 1 pointr/AmItheAsshole

I know what you mean. I grew up with two brothers and I found out that they were eating ice cream every day after school and that's why we never had ice cream left for family nights. I started doing the same thing because it was the only way I could get something approaching an equal share. My poor mom had to buy separate sweets for herself that were strictly off limits to the rest of us. Luckily, in our family, leftovers and things bought with your own money and properly claimed were respected, so I started doing the same thing when I got a job.

You need one of these until your husband can learn his lesson.

I have had this one for about 2 years: https://www.amazon.com/Rocker-Pedestal-Video-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B01EVOOAAG/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

I chose a fabric model because the vinyl will peel and crack over time like on an office chair. I would highly recommend some sort of seat cushion because the chair has very little cushion in the seat. But with a seat cushion, it is very comfortable and I can sit for 4-5 hours of XBox gaming no problem.

This is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I76ELYO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm sure there are newer versions of the chair available...just get a fabric one instead of vinyl. It will last longer.

I also use a desk footrest like this one. It gives some elevation and encourages me to move my feet around.

I bought a mobile stand that's working out pretty well. That being said it does tend to tip just a bit if you push at the top of the case.

u/Metalsand · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Not even that though. It's a mechanical switch that follows ordinary specifications, meaning the switch is designed as a module that can be removed and replaced with no soldering required - mechanical keys are primarily not soldered on to make it easy for companies where they don't have to separate production lines for each mechanical key variant you sell - just different switches that you pop in.

They only cost a dollar, and if you're not certain whether it's the switch, or the board underneath, you can always swap it with a working one. Some motherboards come with the tool for grabbing the keycaps themselves, but you can also buy them for $5.

EDIT: Also, 90% certain that he's using a HyperX Alloy model, which are like $80 to $140.

Chair stoppers

I have ordered mine, not received them yet. have no solution for the chair turning, but yea..cheap solution.

A cheaper solution is to tape the wheels, a carpet, put the casters in shoes.. etc etc.

u/-Tack · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

Those 3" rollerblade wheels are amazing. I'm short and as anyone short would know almost every office or gaming chair sits too low compared to normal desktop height. Combining these wheels, a thicker memory foam seat cushion and a foot stool, my body and arms are ergonomical. This improved my posture and consistency while gaming

u/mekat · 1 pointr/GirlGamers

5 foot 5.5 inches and I'm heavy. I don't do gaming chairs (nothing against them just never found them practical). I just do general office chairs and I look for one that rated around 50-100 lbs more then I am. I also look for chairs with a metal base since I find them more durable. As for my feet not reaching that isn't a problem for me because I use the desk foot rests because I find I am more comfortable with my feet elevated an extra 6-8 inches. I generally try to find office chairs that are rated for at least 6-8 hour a day sitting because they are built sturdier. I'm a very utilitarian type gal. I can't even tell you what my current chair is because I have no clue but I did get it from an office store since they rate their chairs by hours of usage so you know the durability before you buy. This isn't the exact foot rest brand I have but it is similar. Maybe it will help with the whole feet not meeting the ground thing. https://www.amazon.com/Under-Non-Slip-Ergonomic-Footrest-Cushion/dp/B01BRU9CDW/ref=sr_1_25?qid=1574657430&s=office-products&sr=1-25

Btw, NTA.

He's acting very selfish and hogging the food. It's not "first come, first served" in a household or a loving relationship. My boyfriend tries to make sure I have the bigger pork chop, and I always give him extra steak. You ideally want a partner that wants more for you, not less.

I'm getting this: http://www.ergodepot.com/Jarvis_Desk_p/jrv.htm

Ergo Depot has a bunch of models in a wide price range (from $500 to $2000+). I got some extra options so I ended up paying about $975 myself. That's going all out, my intention is to alternate between sitting and standing during the day and this is the way I decided to do it.

Other folks just buy a static height desk and use a barstool when they want to sit. There are a lot of DIY solutions I saw mentioned as well when researching.

http://iamnotaprogrammer.com/Ikea-Standing-desk-for-22-dollars.html

I saw that referenced a number of times. I also saw some nifty setups with a higher and lower area and monitor(s) on moutned arms that could be swiveled from one to the other.

Lastly, in between "new expensive desk" and "complete DIY" is http://www.amazon.com/VARIDESK-34563-Pro-Plus/dp/B00JI6NCCK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1415043513&sr=8-3&keywords=standing+desk.

I don't have mine yet so I can't offer anything beyond what I researched going into it. For me, spending more but not having to build anything myself or deal with any of that was a no brainer, I know for many the opposite is true.

My PC sits in the (wood) floor. Should I get something like this for it?

Bro you don't even need a gaming chair. Just ikea office chair + back support cushion + and a memory butt cushion for back alignment = voila, gaming chair for a 100$

u/momminallday · 6 pointsr/ChronicPain

I have a butt pillow that I love!!! I have a standard crap chair and the pillow makes a world of difference. I take it driving with me too.

It's a combination of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073K1JSW7 and https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50335208/

It was really easy to assemble, only need a drill. Could be done for even cheaper if you don't care about the standing element, I work from home quite often so it's a nice touch.

If you're using a standard office chair with wheels, get yourself something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Office-Chair-Stool-Glides/dp/B00CF0265A

u/BrutalAttis · 1 pointr/hotas

You can buy replacement "fix" feet for you any office chair. They should just pop out. That is what I did with mine.

Something like this:

My solution was to replace my chair’s wheels with these pegs which are designed for that purpose.

I really like this one, has a keycap puller on the other side too. The little logo plate on the side fell of after a week but that doesn't affect anything. The thingy on my desk isn't a monitor riser, it's a Vari-Desk that lets me use my traditional desk as a standing desk. Desk.

as long as the board is hot-swappable, you can use a knife to carefully pry up the switches or get one of these.

What's an innovative way to keep my midtower ATX off of the floor? I need to move my computer underneath my desk to save space, but I want to keep it slightly off the floor to avoid it getting too dusty. Since it's a carpeted floor, I don't have need for a wheeled caddy. Also, it's not like I need to move the computer.

Maybe a small table would work? I also have a battery backup and subwoofer that I wouldn't mind better managing. Really just want a couple of inches off the floor. The tower is 20 inches tall and the space underneath the desk is 30 inches.

NTA. You should buy one of these.

u/Queenofthepineapples · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

I bought this foam pillow with a tailbone cutout and got some amazing relief. Our desk chairs at work have good lumbar support but the seat cushions are atrocious; adding the pillow was just what I needed to avoid the crazy awful back and leg pain I was starting to develop. Hope you find relief soon!

its $30. its above average in price compared to the others. Thats why i ask the firmness of it. I dont like memory foam ones as they tend to be too soft.

I use it on every show, and it has made such a difference since I bought it.

Other than that I would say it is my collection of dongles. No one ever brings extras and when theirs don't work...

I would say Decimator MD-Cross (or HX if you don't need a test pattern generator), but that's kind of just an assumed that everyone has at least one of those in their workbox now.

u/Jovet_Hunter · 8 pointsr/AmItheAsshole

NTA And the fact that they are acting like such spoiled, entitled little brats is all the proof you need they’ve been stealing. You may want to look into getting a couple of these. When they complain, just let them know you don’t think you can work a combo in your sleep so this should fix the issue.

u/thebassics917 · 2 pointsr/ActionFigures

This is the same brand as the one I bought but they no longer offer the size I got.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KN5G9CQ/

The difference with mine were the three sizes were 3", 4", and 5". The ones in the link are 5", 6", and 7" and they're almost twice the price.

I did find these which are the same size and similar in price to the ones I got, they're just a different brand.

These seats are awful.

Buy a seat cushion. Not for the backrest, but for the actual seat. Get the "coccyx support" kind. It will raise you higher up, lowering the lumbar bulge along your spine or removing it entirely and taking pressure off your lower back.

Been a good, cheap solution for me.

I have a long-term back injury as I was hit by a car while on a motorcycle at 60mph back in 2011 - broke over a dozen bones, screwed up my spine, and have permanent nerve damage. I don't think I was lasting even 60mins on a piano bench. I did two things which had miraculous effects. First, I also put on lower back and upper back braces before sitting down on the piano bench. Secondly, I now sit on a thick memory foam cushion on top of the piano bench. Your mileage might vary, but the combo of these three items has been nothing short of miraculous for me. The other day, I sat 2 straight hours at the piano and there was not even one peep from my back.

u/lollipoppipop · 2 pointsr/internetparents

4’ 11” here. I second the footrest. This is the one I have. I would also put my feet up on the chair because it hurt my legs to sit back until I realized how much it was affecting my posture.

Actually, those are the kind I am talking about. I work with mostly people that are 50+, and most of them have some kind of disability from military service, so they like the idea of those desks, but when it comes down to it they never use them because of back and knee pain.
This is the desk we have
