Nice tip on the add-a-fuse. I've been looking to hardwire my own dashcam and was stuck trying to figure that part out.
I have an EX so I've been working on replacing all lights with LEDs. The only ones left are the brake lights and the front fogs. Brake lights gave me a bulb out warning so I'm guessing I'll need a CANBUS bulb. I've held off on trying a new one because I'm not sure if it'll mess with the cruise control. I'd really rather not have to splice any wires for a resistor.
The front fogs I have no idea how to remove. The manual says to take it to the dealer. I can see the socket and I can reach it with my hand through the wheel well panel but there's a plastic ring around it or something in the way that I don't know how to take off. If anyone has removed theirs please let me know.
Front and rear turn signals are SiriusLED with built-in resistors. Brighter and fills out the housing more than stock, no hyperflashing. Highly recommend. License plate lights are from superbrightLEDs. Bright, white, less power draw. Really nothing bad to say about those. Rear hatch taillights are Sylvania ZEVO. Not obnoxiously bright and fills out the housing well but the actual LED itself is kind of a hotspot. All the interior festoon lights are also SiriusLED 31mm. Very bright and don't have any quirks that I've noticed. Map lights are from superbrightLEDs. Brighter than stock but a little bluer than I'd like compared to the SiriusLEDs. Reverse lights are also from superbrightLEDs. Not amazing, but better than stock. Note: These are oriented vertically. A focusing lens won't help you here. Headlights are Supernova V.4. Noticeably brighter, whiter, less power draw and since it's a projector the light stays where it needs to. Much needed upgrade over what the IIHS rates as Poor lights, assuming they're the same as the Niro/PHEV. Haven't done too much night testing but may get the chance soon.
I also replaced the rear sidemarkers with some superbrightLEDs that I swapped over from my old car. Brighter than stock as well without being obnoxious. Not sure if it's just the socket or the housing itself but I felt like it was a little tight. That one I linked for sure works but anything else around that size or larger may not.
Annoying things the manual doesn't mention (may only be relevant to the EX since the EX Premium gets a lot more LEDs):
The rear sidemarker bulbs are not mentioned at all. W5W. I think AKA 168 but if you're using LEDs anything that fits should work like 194, 921, etc.
The interior festoon bulbs are 30 or 31mm. I used 31mm but I've heard 30mm fit.
The hatch taillights don't mention you have to remove 4 bolts. 8mm I think.
A few bulbs are incorrect. To keep it simple the front turn signals, rear turn signals, and tail/brake lights are 1157 (two each, six total). Not sure why the turn signals get a dual function bulb when they don't turn on with the lights but there you go. The manual lists the front turn signals as PY21W which led me to 7507. One website's bulb finder told me 1156. Both of those were wrong. I threw in the 1157 without issue.
I added Weathertech floorliners for the front and rear plus their universal cargo mat as a short term solution while I have to carry some stuff around.
If anyone has ideas for a rear dashcam please post them. I can't find a clean solution that leaves wires hanging in the way or having to remove the headliner to make it work.
I can’t help with headlights info, but I have a 2015 3 and did the LED Interior, reverse, license plate and parking lights upgrade. Really pretty easy and much better light all around. I used these and they all are still working great:

Havent done the brakes yet - going to replace the lines etc with steel braid.
Also want to do a sprocket / chain swap for acceleration
I used a quadlock phone mount for a little bit - but took it off because I was playing with my phone too much.
I owned a Crosstrek for a little over theee years. While I had it, it was a pretty great car. I hauled over 20,000lbs. of landscaping stones in that sucker over a 2 month period.
The first big complaint I have about it is that it’s pretty unfriendly to modding. Several of my buddies had other Subaru models and they did nifty things like add cold air intakes and racing tuned computer chips. Sadly, the Crosstrek couldn’t really do any of that so I was stuck with the stock 148 horse power engine. If you’re not really into that scene, it’s a fine car.
The second complaint I have is that the MPG #s they advertise are not accurate. My car was supposed to be 26 city/32 highway. I saw a lifetime average of 23 city/27 highway. Kind of a bummer. You might consider the hybrid if it’s within your budget.
I do have another less important gripe. The CVT automatic transmission robs that car of some power. Even if you get the model with paddle shifters like I did, it just isn’t that responsive. But let’s be realistic... if you’re buying a Crosstrek that you can’t really mod, you’re probably not looking for more power in you mid-high range.
I do have some advice if you do end up going with the Crosstrek (and to be clear, besides those relatively minor gripes, it’s a great car).
Anyhow, I’d be happy to answer any other questions you may have about my experience with that car. It was mostly good and I’d recommend it to someone looking at the crossover size range.
*edit: a number of people have asked for the LED link so I figured it might be easier to post it here:
It’s worth noting though that the kit I bought is no longer available. The one I list below is compatible with my model year of Crosstrek (2015) according to Amazon’s vehicle matching tool. I highly recommend you make use of Amazon’s vehicle matching tool that lets you put details in about your car (make/model/year). It then it tells you if the part you’re looking at is compatible with your chosen vehicle or not.
Anyhow, here’s the link:

You get what you pay for with led bulbs. $0.40 Chinese led bulbs will be typically be pretty blue and dim, with short life expectancy and limited warranty/support. I went through three cheap sets in my first year of owning the G37 actually.
The ones in your eBay link have 5050 led chips which are older and don't output as light as newer led chips like 5630, 2835, 5730.
I would suggest Diode Dynamics HP5 bulbs in 6000k for maximum brightness and reliability. $20/pair of bulbs (you'll need three for doors, dome, and license plate, maybe four if you want to do the trunk too). Pricey but I can vouch that these are bright, true to color, and won't flicker within a few months. Plus 3 yr warranty with solid customer support. They also have some cool easy diy tail light and fog light mods.
https://www.diodedynamics.com/store/listed-by-vehicle/infiniti/q50.html
On the lower budget spectrum, these Amazon sets have newer 2835 led chips which are a lot brighter than 5050s. The build quality is good but I'm unsure on longevity since I only tried them for a week or two now on our Honda Accord.

Congratulations on getting an ND. If you are getting one with a manual transmission don't look at anything other than the Club or Club Brembo trim levels, as those are the only ones that come with a limited slip differential.

If you are going to be buying a used ND, be sure to read over the threads pertaining to roof and transmission issues on the early model cars. The TSB's put out by Mazda also give good guidelines as to what to look for. You should be okay buying a early year used car as long as you look over the known wear points on the roof and check the build date on the transmission.

The following is a good basic list of items that any ND owner could install that would be enjoyable upgrades as stand alone upgrades or as a starting point for further modifications dependent on intended use.

3M Invisible Bra for the front bumper. Can't stress this enough, this car eats rocks to the face like crazy...
Stubby Antenna, stock one looks like a RC car antenna
Interior dome light and trunk light LEDs
Reverse light LEDs
Side marker and license plate light LEDs
Wheel Spacers if you intend to keep the stock wheels, Stock wheels are very sunk into the wheel well and look strange from the factory.
Sway bars, the stock bars are very thin and allow LOTS of body roll. Of all the parts that I listed, only the front sway bar has a high degree of difficulty to install assuming you have basic mechanical skills.

Stock exhaust is very anemic, recommend some muffler choices based on if you are looking for a more refined but quiet exhaust or something louder and more exotic. Don't bother with midpipe unless you are looking at headers as well. Cold air intakes for the ND have been proven to do absolutely nothing via dyno testing.

HKS Legamax Premium. More on the quiet side, gets louder with a great refined sound as it breaks in.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-XdBGS1nwI

Roadster Sport Race. Loudest exhaust but still okay to daily drive. Has an exotic sound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvK18FsWilE

Also, I Just had the Innovated Dynamics spoiler in your picture delivered. FYI, Jose the guy that makes these is known for long delays and not answering emails /phone calls. If you order one of these spoilers don't expect to see it for 4 to 6 weeks. I'll post up some pictures once it is painted and mounted.

I have more upgrades done to my 16' Jet Black Mica ND with more planned for the future. DM me if you want to see pictures of my car on IG or if you would like an additional opinion on parts I have not covered in this post.
I used THESE ones. Amazon Prime for $9.99.
Very bright, but word for the wise, Do not replace your brights indicator with one of these. I did and it nearly blinded me with blue light when I used the brights. Ended up switching it back out for one of the original bulbs. They are nice in the turn signals however as they're nice and bright, keeping from being an idiot that lets them just run after a turn.
These lights also fit into the shifting plate and the 4WD plate of you've got it. Just enough to do them all vice the brights.
EDIT: I also did a little modification while I painted my instrument cluster of putting aluminum tape around the backside of the tac and speedo to try and reflect the light a little better. It seems to have worked a little but not much.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IR3ZXJ0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
^ I got these bulbs. They were only $10 and they included adaptors for both the map/dome lights and the trunk light so it was nice that you didn’t have to buy separate lights.
Swap was super easy. I used a pocket knife to pop off the cover and it should come out super easy. Used the Festoon adaptor for the map/dome lights. If the lights don’t work, try flipping it 180 degrees because it has a specific polarity. Then used the T10 adaptor for the trunk light.
Hope this helps!
One if my fluorescents burnt out so I replaced it with $25 of LED panels off amazon and am very happy with the results. My tank now is better lit, my plants are happier, and the LED's draw 10w vs the 72w than the fluorescents used.
I'm very happy with the upgrade.
For those who are interested.

These and these should cover all of our interior lights. Don't be scared by the made in china brand, I have used these in my Rav4, CRV and Ridgeline with great success!
EDIT: also the 194's replace your parking lights up front, and those look great with LED's

Super bright Dome Light LEDs, that have improved my Daily so much!
Yeah. You'll need to bend the posts for the rear map light slightly outward.
You can watch videos here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuNYkivrWts
I was planning to buy them from SubiSpeed but they wanted $40+ for a pretty similar set of lights. It's possible that theirs are better quality, but I can't imagine they are $30 better.
I grabbed this one set: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HMJIIQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I upgraded the dome lights and map lights with LED panels. Here’s the link to them on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078V7WFDH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bRQLDbRT13HJ5
I took out out the reflective divider in between the two map lights (lights above driver and passenger seats) to make the panel fit. It pulls right out. I wanted to keep the OEM look and keep it easy on the eyes so I went with warm white instead of the pure white. Interior is bright asf now. All in all, for $15 I’d say it was definitely worth it. Also the kit comes with 4 panels and I only used 3 so I have a spare panel just in case one fails.
Hopefully this helps someone
It's really hard to capture the glow pictures, but it's super easy to try for yourself, and the LEDs are not expensive.
I replaced the puddle lights under the mirrors, in all four doors, and the reverse indicator lights. They are all brighter than stock and the same white color temperature as the overhead console lights.
Depends on what you get, I suppose.

I have this type: https://www.amazon.com/Partsam-Canbus-Interior-Lights-Courtesy/dp/B00LP4RWYC/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1536480652&sr=8-17&keywords=BRZ+interior+led
Obviously I don't look at them directly, otherwise they ARE bright, but it does light up the interior nicely.
I think you'll be ok as long as you don't go overkill and get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/iJDMTOY-110-SMD-Interior-2013-2016-BRZ/dp/B00CRQYX62/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536480652&sr=8-3&keywords=BRZ+interior+led
I did this about a year ago, super easy and a great turn out. here's the link to Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X9RPLLS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Replaced every light in the gauge cluster with a 194 LED. I purchased a pack of 20 from Amazon. Best $9 so far! No, the don't dim..... but it looks better, brighter and cleaner looking.
Link MF, do you need it?
https://www.amazon.com/194-AMAZENAR-Interior-Replacement-Dashboard/dp/B013NT3MKY
I think that's the size I tried at PepBoys, and seemed slightly longer than what was installed.
Those are reported to be 31mm, and I measured mine to be just under 30mm. and they were in super tight.
Plus, the stock ones seem to have a little sharp nub that was part of my measurement which seems to essentially shorten it further. (Like the one one the left here) Maybe it will be Ok, but I was afraid of over-tensioning the spring retainer clip.
----
Edit: It looks like they only come in these reported sizes?
31mm Festoon replaces : 269, 3021, 3022, 3175, 6428, 6430
36mm Festoon replaces : 6411, 6418
37mm Festoon replaces : 6411, 6418
39mm Festoon replaces : 211, 212, 239, 3423, 3425, 6413
42mm Festoon replaces : 211, 212
44mm Festoon replaces : 211, 212, 264, 6413, 6429
44mm Rigid Loop replaces : 561, 562, 564, 570, 571, 577, 578
So maybe 31 mm is the best I'll get. I'm still digging.
Where’d you get your cluster done at? Mines looking pretty dim but on later 1st gens they soldered in the bulbs which makes replacing them not as easy and I’m not comfortable enough to do it myself.
For the doors I got these: AUXITO 194 LED Light Bulb 6000K... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071LHP5WP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They also work in other areas like the map lights, license plate lights, and I think even the bed light but I haven’t tried it yet.
I used these for the dome lights in the rear: LUYED 2 X 570 Lumens Super Bright... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0177DD3E2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
My AC control doesn’t have working lights either, sometimes the fan speed side comes on if I hit it but not all the time so I’d love an answer for this too.
Just so you know I have a 2007 Silverado Classic so it should match yours
I picked up a 2017 EX-T in December and the very first thing I did was upgrade the lights to LED.

The results have been amazing, I'm very pleased and haven't had any issues. You will need to reverse the polarity of the plugs though.
I replaced the front map light bulbs and the cargo light bulb. Huge difference. Rear maps are standard stock.
Same exact camera settings on all 4 pics in this album. F1.7, 1/8s, ISO800. No other lighting nearby.
Definitely much better, especially in the cargo. Literally night and day. These might be overkill for the front. Not sure about durability and reliability though. We'll see!

The actual fog lights since my car didn't come with them, and the stalk. Then I did some c-shaped drl since I have leds in my high beams and the factory drl doesn't work with leds, but then the c-shaped drl didn't work for a little bit so I bought the drl turn signals, and then the previous c-shaped ones started working again. I had my rims done by a local company, they are the factory 16" painted gloss black. My mazda emblem is actually a long story, but essentially it is just scuffed up with sand paper ready to be painted but I liked the look and stuck it back on the way it is. I have also installed car play, and 3D printed a shift knob. The factory bose system was a little lacking and put a small under seat sub in to help fill the sound, but am still not happy with it, so that's a future project.
Some near future plans for the car include the aero kit, and I'll post the links to those here too:

I use this LED light:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WVJR0D8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works very well and it’s super bright. If you do change out your bulb, switch the two corner running lights to LED as well. I used these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRE38EA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Installation was a breeze. You can find install videos on YouTube.
I did this to my '13 VT about 6 months. I bought these for my map, dome, and trunk lights. I never actually did the vanity lights under the shade flaps, but they work great. Very bright.
edit: my trunk light was also a DE3175, but that may have changed from '13 to '16. So this 4 pack was just enough for the lights I needed to switch.
For my 96 xj (full cluster with tach) my dash took 8 194 LEDs. Then 2 194's, for the transfer case and trans shifters. Then I replaced 2 74 LED's. One for the key insert ring and one for the hvac. There are a few more 74 slots behind the switches to the left and right of your wheel.
You have to unscrew the steering wheel plastic shroud. It takes a torx 15 I believe, you need a long torx screwdriver for this, a bit won't fit up there. Then you pull the dash panel off, then four screws around the instrument panel, another 1-2 screws near the warning lights area on the left side. Pull out the instrument panel a bit and you will have to disconnect two plugs in the back, one behind the warning lights and one in the middle of the cluster. Push in and pull up on the middle plug to get it out. Then pull the instrument panel and untwist the 8 ports for the 194 lights, then put it all back.
You can replace the warning lights if you want with 74's as well but that's a lot of LEDs, maybe 8 or so.
The hvac light port is on the upper right side when you unscrew the four screws and pull it out a bit.
For the 194's I got these Yorkim LEDs off Amazon, cheaper than superbright and seem to be great quality. I love them so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRE38EA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These are the 74's I bought. You might be able to find cheaper. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/miniature-wedge-base/74-led-bulb-1-smd-led-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/227/
Ah nice! Fat chance, but do you happen to know the part number or the one from this list? They are pretty spendy to buy and test, and I'm worried after the last bulb I bought pooped out quick.
e: I did find a video showing a sylvania, though he mentions it's not much brighter.
e2: Ah these might be what I'm after! And looks like lots of crosstrek owners verifying results.
Sure!

The front map lights are different bulbs than the rear seat dome light. For the dome light I used a 31mm 3175 LED and I like it. It is definitely brighter than the stock halogen.
I installed an LED headlight. It added a lot more visibility at night. Took 10 minutes or less to do.

If you're interested you could change out all the interior lighting to LED. The door courtesy lights. The window visor lights. Trunk light. Parking lights. License plate light. Switching to LEDs will modernize the car.
I used these LEDs
Out of the ten, one was flickering on me. But the others have been working properly. Makes my car look really nice.
The only thing I haven't changed out yet is the side mirror lights because I believe they're quite difficult to change.

I have these and they're great.
The hard part is finding ones that are short enough to fit under the lense.
I found these:

I can not attest as to their quality or longevity as I just got them, but they fit!

Pictures will be a couple of hours. For the dome lights I did have to bend the metal tab just a little bit once I did that they worked just fine. I would say it’s like bending it about 1-2mm.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074PPQ6V6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so far these have worked for my map lights and license plate lights. I'm sure they work for the trunk light and footwells as well.

White LEDs, really easy to upgrade. http://www.amazon.com/Classy-Autos-Lights-Interior-Package/dp/B005HMJIIQ
One super reasonably priced upgrade that I love in my FJ is an interior LED lighting kit. These replace the crappy interior OE lights. Long amazon link, but these are basically what you can get:

My trim didn't have fog lights.
I can't remember right now, but I think I was having an issue with finding high beams, or something. I can't seem to find any order history on other bulbs.
But, these are the reverse lights https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008G4Y076/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JiQyDbVFPZQFZ
And these are for you interior lights, and license plate lights https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DE7UC6C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
These work on my 2018 as well so they should still match a 2016.

the important thing to find out is what type of bulbs? if they are 110v(standard house lighting), you need an inverter to go from 12v to 110v. the inverter alone will kill a lot of your energy. also, you will have to disconnect power to the inverter, not power from the inverter to the bulbs, because most dont automatically shut off when they arent used.
a much better option would be to go with led lighting that is 12v. more efficient in many ways... at our remote cabin we have a 12v solar setup, and 2 of these panels per dome light are about equivilent to one of the older 75w incandecent light bulbs.
Things I've done include:
Things I'd like to do include:
There are some other things too. If you have the LX, you can buy a remote for keyless entry (LX specific apparently) because it already has a keyless entry system built in. It just doesn't come with a remote.
There are some other official accessories, though many tend to be surprisingly destructive. (Drilling holes, cutting things with hack saws, etc.) I'd recommend checking out this Honda Accessories site.
If you live in the northeast, I do recommend a stainless steel exhaust system because the regular steel one rust out at the drop of a hat. Although I'd be careful where you source parts. The header I got didn't fit right and the muffler I got failed quite quickly. :/
Initially I just replaced the door handle I broke in an ice storm, but then I liked the black look and replaced them all.
*For the PRINDL21 lights, I replaced the bulbs with these. For the rest of the dashboard lights I got Two of these and One of these. To do the HVAC controls I needed another set of the T5's and for the cabin lights I just needed one of these.
I used these for my sidemarker lights and they are significantly brighter than the original bulbs. All my exterior lights are now LED except for the headlights, along with some of my interior lights. The only part we both share are the reverse lights. I didn't like using red LED's. The output through the lens was less than using white LED's. I may try your XOR gate to see if output can be increased even further, but it probably won't unless I switch bulbs. The bulbs you're using are probably brighter than mine. The sad part about the sidemarkers is that there's very limited space, so big 1000+ lumen bulbs won't fit. These were the first bulbs I tried for the sidemarkers. I think I have them installed in my map lights now.
The all day aspect is why I converted to LED. I don't want as much risk of draining my battery, and that happened on a long weekend camping trip when I left a map light on, which caused me to finally address my interior.
I second these suggestions. I replaced my maplights with these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DE7UC6C. It was a PITA removing the old bulbs. Ended up using packing tape to wrap around the bulb to pull them out.
And b/c I bought the wrong dome light bulb, I'll be replacing my dome light with this tomorrow https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AHVND32
Please don't do what I did and go off a youtube link, double check these will all work in your Taco first.
Also, if you're going to be prying things apart I'd suggest a cheap (<$10) trim kit. I already had a cellphone repair kit so I used one of it's plastic pry tools.
