🎓 Reddit experts on automotive light bulbs
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where automotive light bulbs are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
Some tips from my 2015 RAV4:
Replace the internal bulbs whenever you get a chance. It's a very simple job, and makes a huge difference in my opinion. I couldn't see anything at night with the stock done/cabin lights. I can't find exactly what I used, but here's something similar: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0186P1MUW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2fk.Bb4B8Y7FB
All weather floor mats are a great idea, mine came installed already and are Lifesavers. I love camping, hiking, and biking, and I can only imagine what my trunk would look like without my mats.
A hitch (can be $$$) is also a great addition. If that's something you're interested in, try to take into consideration what you'd like to use it for. If youre hoping to haul something or fit two+ adult bikes on it, you'll want a 2" hitch receiver. If you think you'll only need it for smaller things, you'd be fine with a 1.25". You'll definitely want some help installing this, not to mention you'll want a torque wrench (auto stores might be able to loan or rent one out to you).
Side rails + cross rails (typically expensive). If you're going to be taking trips up to the snow, but still want to load up the trunk with your other cargo, you definitely need to look into getting some rails for the top of your car. I bought to lowest trim RAV since I knew I could buy after market stuff like this that comes on the higher end trims, but at a fraction of the cost. Again I can't speak for your RAV, but installing this on a 2015 was easy.
As others have been saying, if you're driving an AWD model, try to get familiar with how Toyotas AWD system works. If you're going to be driving in snow conditions, 2WD w/ snow tires can beat an AWD w/ normal tires any day of the week, so be careful :)
Congrats on the purchase and the baby!
You're missing my point. A lamp can be compliant with the standards, be a poorly designed one, or the best one available, but if its not properly aimed, they can both cause a problem for other drivers. Its not necessarily a problem of design, but the implementation.
And your MG has 5.75" headlamps right? Upgrading your lighting absolutley is worth it, if you do a lot of night driving an like being able to see.
JW Speaker has some excellent 5.75" LED headlamps. They are prupose built, well designed and an absolutely massive upgrade from halogens available in that format. They are also compliant with SAE standards, and if you aim them properly, are going to let you see very well and also minimize glare for oncoming drivers.
If you have 7" round halogens, you have more options. Cheapest, but still very good is GE Nighthawk 7" sealed beams. They are the best 7" sealed beam available.
Better than that is Hella https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001G72SKQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1457218047&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=h4+7+inch+headlight&dpPl=1&dpID=51Japi47DSL&ref=plSrch but you have to makr sure you're getting the correct ones for the US. Left Hand Traffic.
Better still, with a replaceable bulb option, would be to find a set of Cibie Z-Beams, which are unfortunately out if production.
Upgrading to LED can get you either the Gen2 Truck Lite 7" round LED lamp, which has a decent low beam and a very, very good high beam. Or a set of JW Speaker 8700/8700 Evolutions/8700 Evolution 2's. The Evo2's is their newest model, and by far the best LED headlamp in that format on the market, in terms of both high and low beams. Unfortunately, not cheap, but awesome lights, and fully compliant with all SAE standards.
Here are some that I ordered from:
JST Performance - Cobb Accessport, Custom Tune, Turbosmart blow off valve, NGK 1 step colder spark plugs
James Barone Racing - Weighted short shift plate, Aluminum shift cable bracket bushings, Symposer delete, Green Air Filter (because they sell the gray one)
Depo Racing - 3.5" intercooler, catless downpipe, intercooler pipe kit
Boomba Racing - shifter base bushings, short shift lever
Tire Rack, Discount Tire Direct - wheels and tires. Both offer great deals but I go with Tire Rack because they include an amazing road hazard warranty for free with every tire you buy.
Tasca Parts - OEM Ford parts. Some good options: RS airbox lid, RS Shifter, RS engine cover, RS intake pipes
Amazon - ZL1 Rock Guards (tiny but very effective mud flaps), CravenSpeed stubby antenna, 3D (Mugen) style Window rain visors, Philips H11 Xtreme Vision headlight bulbs (same color as stock but 100% brighter), Stainless T-clamps for your intercooler, Motul Multi DCTF transmission fluid, and TONS of Meguiars car care products.
Walmart - best price for Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic engine oil, often have coupons for it too.
God I hope this formats correctly - I am a neophyte.
Exhaust - http://www.ixilusa.com/ixil-l3xb-black-hyperlow-xl-full-exhaust-yamaha-mt-07-2014-2015/
Super deep and loud sound - videos online don't do it justice, its unbelievably loud when the baffles are out. Had to have the cat cut out of it. Be aware they have a cat in the V section before the end of the pipe.
Removed the snorkel covering the airbox - I was told its basically blocks airflow.

I removed the passenger pegs, needed a bracket to hold the brake fluid reservoir - also cleaned up the pegs
Havent done the brakes yet - going to replace the lines etc with steel braid.
Also want to do a sprocket / chain swap for acceleration
I used a quadlock phone mount for a little bit - but took it off because I was playing with my phone too much.
Buy a pair of Hella 7" Headlamps (ECE), and this.
The lamp housings are european code (ECE or E-code). Technically not DOT legal in the US-- but is your inspection station going to inspect your headlamp housings?) These have a sharp cutoff so they won't blind other drivers. I've been running them for years and I love them. The pattern is far superior to DOT lamps-- it tends to really throw the light forward from the bulbs.
The wire loom from ARB is made of a much thicker gauge wire than the wires that are currently driving your headlights. The same bulbs will run brighter with this wire loom upgrade, but I found that if you add new housings (with nice clean clear glass and a good light projection pattern), and a pair of high-quality H4 bulbs, your headlights will work with the power of a thousand suns.
For bulbs, I'm currently running Sylvania SilverStars, but in the past I found out about IPF Fatboy II 80W/60W bulbs. The low-beam is actually higher than the high-beam wattage. Not sure why or how that makes sense, but these are a seriously great upgrade. Be warned, they run very hot and are susceptible to vibration damage (moreso than other standard 55w bulbs). Don't expect these bulbs to last more than a year or two. They're intense, though.
Hope that helps, because that's what I did to my Jeep. I also added a pair of Hella driving-pattern auxiliary lights on my stinger and a pair of 4" Delta fog lights on my front bumper.
I love my Hella's - they are brighter than sealed-beams, but still have a really clean cut off so I'm not blinding other drivers and getting tickets. Best $70 I've spent on the car so far.
They are plug 'n play so no modding, and they were easy to adjust to the proper height. 10/10 would recommend.
edit: as /u/AKADriver said, "halos" are trash. They look cool in pictures and don't light the road well at all (if they work). Some of the super expensive ones are fairly reliable, but still don't light the road well. The eBay ones are pure trash - you might as well light a couple hundred bucks on fire.
Do yourself a favor and don't switch. As a vehicle lighting systems engineer, I can reassure you that there are no LED bulbs on the market that will work in your 2017 Highlander. As a matter of fact, I was on the design team for last generation RAV4's headlamps. Most, if not all, Toyota lamps are designed with an eye on performance and none of them need any "upgrades" to LED for good to great performance.
Your 2017 Highlander came with excellent H11 low-beam projectors which don't need any sort of "upgrade" to LEDs because the long and short of it is that all LEDs on the market today are downgrades. Why then, you ask, do people recommend LED kits all the time? It's because LEDs give the illusion of better lighting. LEDs are the modern day Houdini--they are masters of illusion and the name of the game is getting you to crack open your wallet nice n' wide.
The only upgrade you need for your Highlander's low-beams are a fresh set of H11 bulbs, preferably high-performance ones. The stock bulbs are long-life type bulbs, designed to get you through the warranty period without a bulb failure. Unfortunately, this means that the stock bulbs are designed to emit as little light as legally possible, leading people to the faulty conclusion that their headlamps suck and need an "upgrade" to LEDs.
You can see for yourself at the link below: high-performance halogen bulbs create a beam pattern almost 20 meters longer than long-life halogen bulbs. 20 meters is 65 feet. People like to talk about how their new brake pads stop like 5 feet sooner. What if I told you that new bulbs could help you stop 65 feet sooner? No brake pad can help you stop 65 feet sooner (as your traction is limited by tires, not brake pads). Oh, and by the way, did I mention that these high-performance H11 bulbs are cheaper than pretty much any LED bulb on the market? Better performance for less money, no way?
https://teknikensvarld.se/vart-test-avslojar-vilka-lampor-som-ger-bast-ljus-pa-bilen-181624/
And in case there was still any lingering doubt about the performance of H11 LED bulbs over H11 halogen bulbs, please read this abstract:

Congratulations on getting an ND. If you are getting one with a manual transmission don't look at anything other than the Club or Club Brembo trim levels, as those are the only ones that come with a limited slip differential.

If you are going to be buying a used ND, be sure to read over the threads pertaining to roof and transmission issues on the early model cars. The TSB's put out by Mazda also give good guidelines as to what to look for. You should be okay buying a early year used car as long as you look over the known wear points on the roof and check the build date on the transmission.

The following is a good basic list of items that any ND owner could install that would be enjoyable upgrades as stand alone upgrades or as a starting point for further modifications dependent on intended use.

3M Invisible Bra for the front bumper. Can't stress this enough, this car eats rocks to the face like crazy...
Stubby Antenna, stock one looks like a RC car antenna
Interior dome light and trunk light LEDs
Reverse light LEDs
Side marker and license plate light LEDs
Wheel Spacers if you intend to keep the stock wheels, Stock wheels are very sunk into the wheel well and look strange from the factory.
Sway bars, the stock bars are very thin and allow LOTS of body roll. Of all the parts that I listed, only the front sway bar has a high degree of difficulty to install assuming you have basic mechanical skills.

Stock exhaust is very anemic, recommend some muffler choices based on if you are looking for a more refined but quiet exhaust or something louder and more exotic. Don't bother with midpipe unless you are looking at headers as well. Cold air intakes for the ND have been proven to do absolutely nothing via dyno testing.

HKS Legamax Premium. More on the quiet side, gets louder with a great refined sound as it breaks in.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-XdBGS1nwI

Roadster Sport Race. Loudest exhaust but still okay to daily drive. Has an exotic sound.

Also, I Just had the Innovated Dynamics spoiler in your picture delivered. FYI, Jose the guy that makes these is known for long delays and not answering emails /phone calls. If you order one of these spoilers don't expect to see it for 4 to 6 weeks. I'll post up some pictures once it is painted and mounted.

I have more upgrades done to my 16' Jet Black Mica ND with more planned for the future. DM me if you want to see pictures of my car on IG or if you would like an additional opinion on parts I have not covered in this post.
$83.94 IPF housings
$20.98 Hella H4 55/100W
$27.34 Putco harness
$14.56 Backup relays
$146.82 for a sharp cutoff and much more light on the road, and an incredible high beam, delivered in two days if you have an Amazon Prime membership. I bet you use high beams a lot now, but you'll probably rarely feel the need to use them on the road with this setup.
$147.99 for a 50 inch light bar. Even though the headlights offer a lot of light, having extra flood would be great when off road. I don't actually have this yet, but I plan on buying it as a reward for getting some work done on my XJ. Mine is still new to me, and I haven't yet had the time to earn it yet.
Less than $300 and two days for an incredible amount of light output.
If I don't buy that light bar, it's because I'm getting a Cree light bar with XP/XT or XM emitters that I'll be upgrading...I'm on the hunt for a light bar that uses XTE emitters like this light because output can greatly be increased by swapping in XP-L's, and more than doubled if power can be increased. That mod is more of a hobbyist thing than an attempt to save money, and not all of them would be done anyway since it'd sacrifice some throw for flood.
I used THESE ones. Amazon Prime for $9.99.
Very bright, but word for the wise, Do not replace your brights indicator with one of these. I did and it nearly blinded me with blue light when I used the brights. Ended up switching it back out for one of the original bulbs. They are nice in the turn signals however as they're nice and bright, keeping from being an idiot that lets them just run after a turn.
These lights also fit into the shifting plate and the 4WD plate of you've got it. Just enough to do them all vice the brights.
EDIT: I also did a little modification while I painted my instrument cluster of putting aluminum tape around the backside of the tac and speedo to try and reflect the light a little better. It seems to have worked a little but not much.
Turn signals (front and back): https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0774HQC8Q/
I was hesitant to spend $110 on bulbs, but these things are beasts! plus they have the resistors built into them, so no splicing wires or anything. Totally recommend them
The front bulbs were the easiest to replace, just pop the hood, locate the bulb, twist the housing out and pop the bulbs in. The ones in the back were a bit of a pain. Pop the hatch, and where the door is normally closed, to the inner side of the light houses there's a small plastic panel, that just pops off. Behind it is a set of #10 (I believe) bolts. Undo those. The housing assembly takes some loving to get out, but it just pulls straight back -- I broke a tab off trying to go side to side... It goes back in and latches fine, but, learn from me: it goes straight back... Even though it doesn't seem like it does. Then once it's out, replace the bulbs as usual, reverse the process to put it back in.
Backup Lamps: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01LX4FMD1/
The backup lamps are just covered by a plastic panel on the hatch door that pops out with a pocket knife or small flat head screwdriver, then the bulb twists out as usual.

Most of this was figured out first hand, or from the owner's manual.

As for my internal lights so far, I've only replaced the one above the back seats and the ones above the front seats. The back seat ones pop out with a knife super easily, whereas the front ones were more complicated. I took some pictures of that process and uploaded them here: https://imgur.com/a/YJItuhz -- Basically, the whole module (lights, buttons, sunglasses holder, etc) all comes out, then you replace the bulbs from the back side. The bulbs themselves I picked up from Canadian Tire, which was just a run of the mill off the shelf LED bulbs
Just realized how vague my reply was.
Weather mats - I was able to get "free" Honda ones from the dealer with my vehicle purchase. They're nice and fit well. I've heard great things about weather tech too. And don't forget one for the trunk too. Mine earned it's keep the first time a milk jug leaked. Super easy cleanup compared to carpet cleaning.
Interior leds - I used these plus this trim removal kit. Trim kit is a nice to have, you probably have something around the house to improvise with. For the actual install hit up you tube for "tenth gen Civic interior lights". It's a very easy job.
Also this was my first time having a car with a nice key fob so I got some of these to keep it from getting beat up. With auto lock, unlock, and push button start, it only leaves my pocket when I'm home anyway.
I sure can! I replaced my map, dome, rear cargo, and parking lights with LEDs on my 2002 Here are the amazon links, but I found some at the local autozone

I am not a fan of LED headlights by any means. Most people do not know how to aim them correctly, thus blinding everyone they come across.
If you have your heart set on LED lights, I highly suggest looking at this website:
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/tech.html
The guy's name is Daniel Stern and he is THE guru on lights. He gives an extremely detailed how-to on aiming LED lights. He also gives tutorials on how to correctly aim normal bulb headlights. They are extremely detailed, but rest assured, he will give the best advice
Alternatively, you can go the route I took and purchase Cibie (pronounced cee-BEE-ay). It is a brand made in France or Belgium, I believe and are european code lights. I have run them in my RX-7s, Miatas, and other cars to which I have received no complaints from cops or anyone else. They give an amazing light pattern, and give plenty of light (feathering) on the sides of the road which really come in handy when deer and the like are out.
The link to them are here from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Cibie-082440-82440-Light-Unit/dp/B008DQV88Q
Make sure to buy the bulbs (DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS WHEN INSTALLING!). I purchased the 60/55W bulbs, also at this link:

I have a BK2 and replaced the low beams and marker lights with LEDs and the turn signals with switchback LEDs.

And these switchbacks: https://www.diodedynamics.com/switchback-turn-signal-leds-for-2013-2016-hyundai-genesis-coupe-pair.html
I ended up glueing the adapters onto the existing adapter already on the LED with Loctite. The hardest part was stuffing the low beam pig tail into the housing. It takes a bit k, but it is doable. I uses a 1 1/4" spade bit to drill a hole in each low beam cap for the LED fans to vent. A holesaw bit may work better. Everything else was plug and play. I still need to swap out the turn signal flasher to fix the switchback's hyperblink. I wasn't able to do the high beams because there wasn't enough space to tuck the LED pigtail in there. Any ideas for that?
Anyways it is super bright! Way brighter than the Sylvania zXe halogens I was using before. Fog lights are next then tails.
funny, i usually recommend these... http://www.amazon.com/Truck-Lite-27270C-Round-Headlamp-price/dp/B007K8AA7I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415167346&sr=8-1&keywords=truck+lite+led+headlight
i find the truck-lite ones are pretty good, D.O.T. Approved, and have a warranty tht they will actually go good for.
also, check your grounds, and make sure they aren't screwed up or backfeeding. i've seen it happen too many times with LED lights
I wouldn't be concerned about getting flush indicators. I would be leery of doing anything that would decrease visibility. You can find some lower profile stalks that will stick out less, but still let you be seen by other drivers.
A word of caution tho, if you're looking to go LED for your signals as I have, while you get a much brighter light, on an older bike it's likely you won't be drawing enough current to activate the relay that makes it flash. This is what happens when a turn signal is burned out and why you get that fast flashing, which is what you will have if you don't get an aftermarket relay or some decent resistors to help.
Another thing you could do, which is what I did, is I rewired my stock turn signals to my brake light as well as installed led turn signals. What this did was allowed it to draw enough current to keep it from giving me the fast flash, as well as giving a dull flash in my tail light. AFAIK it's legal to have a flashing/pulsing/strobing brake light since they sell kits for it. I put the bulbs in the same spot as the brake light bulbs, but I used a few strips of red SMD 5050 in my brake light housing and they're much brighter than stock.
Edit: added link for the type of turn signals.
Led and hid replacements don't work nearly as well in a reflector lens, they do much better in a projector style housing. As in, they'll have bright and dark spots and blind oncoming traffic.
That said, these are what I put in my wife's Acadia (projector headlights) and I'm super happy with these, even though I had to massage the housing to fit.

These are the headrest speakers. Sound great, literally plug and play, fit in nicely as long as you remove the box the original speakers went in. Nice and loud and clear sound.
Looking good.
Although why you didn't upgrade to a LED reflector while doing it eludes me. You may actually see less light output with that than with dual 5.75 inch (or bug eyes).
Personally, I kind of like the older type with two 5.75 inch round ones. Put two JW Speaker adaptive LED reflectors in those and you'd have godly levels of light on the road. Also, a huge hole in your wallet, but just going with something like a pair of Vision X would be a huge upgrade.
Since that looks like a 7 inch bucket, you should really consider LED. If you don't like the look of the JW Speaker ones (multiple lenses) even though I think the black reflector variant of those looks killer and would suit your bike awesomely with all that black on there already:
https://www.amazon.com/JW-Speaker-8700-Evolution-Headlight/dp/B00GMRM3KA
...consider a cheap Truck-lite Phase 7. They look almost like a normal light but give out way more lumens. It's not the best but it's good and cheap.
https://www.amazon.com/Truck-Lite-27270C-Headlamp/dp/B007K8AA7I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syCRMmV0-Bg
I used to own a 9th gen sport and wanted to do the same upgrade as you. If you're willing to splice wires then you can purchase the touring headlights from college hills honda and do that for yourself. however, I'd recommend bulb swaps to all LED and keep the housing, any aftermarket housing imo looks cheap and ruins the aesthetic.

these are bulbs i'd recommend
I had the 2017 sport so I already LED fog light strips from the factory but with these low/high beam bulbs the projection was great and didn't bother other drivers ( i had my brother drive behind me one night and I was fine)

if you want to go further you can get these for the back

hope it helps.
Thanks! I'm trying to restore/improve it every chance I get, headlights are a good idea. I've already replaced interior lights with high quality LEDs, and installed projector courtesy lights, it really is such a nice feature for so cheap and easy to do! Next project is installing a dash/backup cam mirror kit, can't wait!
I bought those lights and they really had not much output. The lights I got after those were these: http://www.amazon.com/Tuff-LED-Lights-Square-Polaris/dp/B009ES619S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1373816310&sr=8-3&keywords=tuff+led+lights and they were really bright. But If you want a beam, these are really the best lights to get: http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-5750941-12-Volt-55-Watt-Halogen/dp/B001TWD5GY/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1373816353&sr=1-1&keywords=hella+500ff honestly, cheap lights like those navigators will NOT be worth it. These LED's or Hella's will be. I enjoy my hellas and those LED's enough that I will have 4 of the LED's and 4 of The Hellas just for night offroad use.
the autopal housings are great and take H4 bulbs. super easy refit, although you should also do a relay harness if you are going to overpower them because all the power goes through the headlight switch in the stock config.
harness
housing
bulbs
Note that if you have fogs the highbeam cutoff circuit might malfunction if you install a relay harness. Some info here
TL;DR: Any h6054 housing will fit. Do a harness swap too.
Edit: the Autopal and some other housing brands are available with ECODE or DOT glass lenses, for LHD or RHD.
DOT means there is not as sharp a cutoff. This is used in the US because overhead road signs are not illuminated as they are in the EU. As another poster said, once you have the housing in with it's little stamp you pretty much have carte blanche for the bulbs
Straight swap. It’s also pretty easy to change the bulbs without tearing the entire front end apart. You just need to loosen the under hood fuse box and swing it a couple inches aside to fit your hand in there. The bulbs also have a positive/negative connection that isn’t marked, so if you put them in and they don’t work- just flip the plug. They look fantastic.

The stock lights in my 2017 were garbage. I tried LEDs for a while, but they were too bright and glarey, so I put these halogen bulbs in: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U1OIESK
They're definitely brighter and cooler, but not as annoyingly so. Seems like a good middle ground to me.

http://www.modifiedlife.com/2014-infiniti-q50-change-light-bulb-size-guide/
This site is what i usually go by and it says there arent bulbs to change.
my best advice is to yank out the OEM bulb and look for a part size, if they do indeed match one of these auxito lights, it will defintiely make a HUGE difference.
Got the headlight H4 LED from Cyclops. Looks like they're out of stock right now: https://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/Cyclops-100-H4-LED-headlight-bulb_p_192.html
It was super easy to install and fit very well.

For the parking lights I got these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071LHP5WP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Not a mechanic. I've heard mixed opinions. Some say never convert to LED, some say projector housings are fine but not reflector housings. I don't even know what exactly is the conversion kit on top of the bulb itself.
I gotthisfrom Amazon on my 17 Mazda 3, they work great so far. My car may not have compatible bulb detection.update: Please read the whole thread before making a decision.
I ended up buying some new headlights off eBay and they are pretty good quality. I didn't want to ruin my OEM ones just in case I wanted to go back to stock. If you have any questions, let me know! I know the headlights inside and out and I'd be glad to help!
Parts List:
Wiring harness
HID Ballasts and Lights
Projectors
Headlights and Corner Lights
HID works best on the new Civics. I have tried LED for the low beam and they are bright, but don't shine very far. I tried them in a 2017 Accord and it works better in the Accord than the Civic. HIDs shine further and give your more visibility.
I believe most others used 6000k bulbs and have said it matched their fog lights.
These LED work perfectly for me. I changed all the interior lights with these.
It is easily twice as bright as the factory setup. far better pattern too.

The parts matcher said they would fit and the reviews seem pretty solid. If they don't work, at least Amazon is easy on returns.
Where’d you get your cluster done at? Mines looking pretty dim but on later 1st gens they soldered in the bulbs which makes replacing them not as easy and I’m not comfortable enough to do it myself.
For the doors I got these: AUXITO 194 LED Light Bulb 6000K... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071LHP5WP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They also work in other areas like the map lights, license plate lights, and I think even the bed light but I haven’t tried it yet.
I used these for the dome lights in the rear: LUYED 2 X 570 Lumens Super Bright... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0177DD3E2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
My AC control doesn’t have working lights either, sometimes the fan speed side comes on if I hit it but not all the time so I’d love an answer for this too.

Yes only the top half lights up, but how often are you looking back at your lights? THe cutoff is great, does not not blind oncoming traffic. I am a big fan.
I picked up a 2017 EX-T in December and the very first thing I did was upgrade the lights to LED.

If you want any mounting info, I'd be glad to give it to you. I installed the second pair of these just yesterday and although it took a long time, they're worth it!!
The bar is also on amazon made for a 14 and 15 forester, 200 dollars. Annoying price tag but worth it for sure. look up SSD performance bar on amazon and you should find it.

Just make sure to select the correct bulb socket, not sure if any of them have changed with each generation, mine were for a 2014.
Edit - not a bad idea to keep your stock ones in the glovebox in case one goes bad, although they are rated for way longer than you will probably use them. Use a glove to take glass ones out and put back in if you are able. Oil from your skin will heat up on the surface of the bulb and heat up and it will burn out quicker otherwise.
Edit again - if you don't like the lights on the mirrors being a big contrast, you can use vinyl smoke film to cover them. You can still see them when they're blinking but otherwise they're not nearly as noticeable. It's personal preference but if you do, vvivid makes good products and they're easy to use. You can find that on Amazon too and I think it's only like $10-12, one roll is way more than you'd need for those.
I use this LED light:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WVJR0D8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works very well and it’s super bright. If you do change out your bulb, switch the two corner running lights to LED as well. I used these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRE38EA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Installation was a breeze. You can find install videos on YouTube.
I purchased these a few months ago. I'd say their output is similar to halogen, maybe a touch more. Definitely no where near their advertised 8000lm - which is ideal for me. Simply install and adjust your headlights vertically down a turn or two and golden. Cut off is great, don't blind oncoming drivers, and looks good, too!
I literally just put these on my 1999 L!

I purchased and installed the Opt7 LEDs for my low beams and am very happy with them so far. My main reason for going with these is the thread on TacomaWorld with many users being happy with the results. I didn't like the yellow light of the stock halogens, especially when compared with the white LED DRLs on the headlights.
The Opt7 LEDs match very close with the DRLs. The light output is about the same as the stock halogens but looks so much better in my opinion.
I got them on Amazon but I think you can find them cheaper in eBay.

Anyone done these headlight swaps before with good instructions? Is it pretty straightforward? Also is that price for the pair?
I have the Hella 500FF and they were VERY easy to install. You also need the brackets which can be bought directly from mini. The install is a breeze, as long as you don’t drop one (don’t ask) and they work great. The only non kit thing I’ve done is swapped the switch to a chrome one from Home Depot and wired in the switch power from the cigerette outlet so they turn off with the engine. If you need more help I’m always here!
I purchased these for my 2014 6 touring to replace my low beams. I love them. All hardware needed was included.

The owners manual has good install instructions. The whole install process took me about 30 minutes. I had to go through the wheel well to access the bulbs.
Hope this helps
They are very generic 9005 bulbs, 650 lumens on a good day. I got these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHD4HV3 They are easily 2 times are bright (remember perceived brightness is logarithmic)
For my 96 xj (full cluster with tach) my dash took 8 194 LEDs. Then 2 194's, for the transfer case and trans shifters. Then I replaced 2 74 LED's. One for the key insert ring and one for the hvac. There are a few more 74 slots behind the switches to the left and right of your wheel.
You have to unscrew the steering wheel plastic shroud. It takes a torx 15 I believe, you need a long torx screwdriver for this, a bit won't fit up there. Then you pull the dash panel off, then four screws around the instrument panel, another 1-2 screws near the warning lights area on the left side. Pull out the instrument panel a bit and you will have to disconnect two plugs in the back, one behind the warning lights and one in the middle of the cluster. Push in and pull up on the middle plug to get it out. Then pull the instrument panel and untwist the 8 ports for the 194 lights, then put it all back.
You can replace the warning lights if you want with 74's as well but that's a lot of LEDs, maybe 8 or so.
The hvac light port is on the upper right side when you unscrew the four screws and pull it out a bit.
For the 194's I got these Yorkim LEDs off Amazon, cheaper than superbright and seem to be great quality. I love them so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRE38EA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These are the 74's I bought. You might be able to find cheaper. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/miniature-wedge-base/74-led-bulb-1-smd-led-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/227/

Something like this for interior.
And these are what I've been using for turn signal, but you're going to need a set of resistors if you do LED blinkers.
For rear, I would recommend the Diode Dynamics Tail as Turn Harness. It also gives you the ability to have twice as many reverse lights. shit is bright.
Nice, I have summit grey as well and this makes me want to wrap the trim red as well. I just did my interior lights, plate lights and back up lights with LED bulbs. Links in case anyone is interested, I get no flicker.

I bought these cibies which have great reviews on the Jeep fourms and amazon. You just have to buy the bulbs later
I got these from Amazon and they are plug and play and work SO much better than the stock halogens. I've had them for about 2 years now and haven't had any issues, and there was no aiming required it was perfect when I installed them.
I'm running these Auxbeam LEDs on my Mazda 3 2016. They're really good for my needs and have a much better cutoff line than the kensun LEDs. I first bought them for my girlfriend's 2016 civic and grew jealous about how much better they were than my kensun ones lol.
Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Here's the projector housings, hid kit, and headlight housings. I had to cut holes in the back of the headlights and jb weld the projectors in, but it was all pretty simple. Also had to use a step drill to cut holes behind the headlights on the Jeep to clear the backs of the lamps.
Yes! HID retrofits, first mod that I did within 48 hours of buying the car. Highly recommend, and it cost like $80 total
I followed this thread: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=454405
Granted there were some differences, for example I used a heat gun instead of my oven, but generally I followed that pretty closely.

I got mine from Amazon, they are nice and bright. It fits all the interior lights as well as the puddle lights beneath the exterior side mirrors.

The default incandescent map light bulbs are ~3000K (soft white) in my 2011. I really like Bright white bulbs (3500-4100K) and use them for my house. Unfortunately, the only LEDs I can find for map lights are either soft white or daylight (6100K) --with most of the bright ones being daylight. If they say "Xenon white", they're daylight.
There are packs of them on Amazon for cheap:

I got these Auxbeam ones for my 2019 low beams. Be careful, if you buy ones with a big ass fan in the back, you will have to remove the whole headlight to replace the bulb. In order to do that you would have to loosen the fenders and remove the bumpers which to me is excessive to replace bulbs. These are easy and with a bit of jiggling, they go right in. Awesome bright light.

I did not have to re-aim the opt 7 at all. They have a good beam pattern. Depending on your car you may have to flip the ring on the bulb to adjust the spread. Im very happy. 15 minutes and done. I was going through about 4-5 packs of silverstars a year.
Example

I did a k-suspension harness, hella h4 bulbs and rampage housings. love how much light they put out without looking obnoxiously bright like LED lights. At the very least you should do the harness. Makes a world of a difference.

They are great, affordable and give the truck a clean look at night.
I installed the a129 last week. Seems to be running ok but haven't tried parking mode as there is still complaints about it's recording algorithms. Waiting for a more reliable firmware update. I had an a119s that ran fine in high temps for 3 years. Due to the steep angle of the windshield or the fov of the camera I opted to install my camera to the right of the rear view mirror. It looks more centered than to the left of the mirror. I haven't gotten around to running the rear camera. Im going to have to run it through the door sill rather than the headliner as there's no where to tucknin that thick wire for the rear cam. Also my rear hatch glass has dark tint on it so I'm not sticking the cpl on that.
Idk if it was just my dark tint making it hard to see but I've replaced the rear back up lights with these. Reverse is MUCH brighter now.
Right now I'm looking for a door sill vinyl with "fit" written on it. My fit already has a rather noticeable scuff on the driver's door. So far the only where I've seen a good looking one is Alibaba but I'd rather not buy from there. Amazon has one but it's not the same and also doesn't have prime shipping. If I can't find anything I'm problably going to add a "carbon" universal sill decal.
I run a truck-lite

And these cheap foglights
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01E69KPFU/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a real hard time driving my car at night. I cant see crap unless I have my high beams on.
Honestly I wasnt impressed with the headlight at first, but once it was aimed properly Im quite happy. The fogs are almost to bright. Being a new rider I was very apprehensive about driving at night. Last night I had no choice and I will now say that ill take my bike over my car in the dark every time. I was able to see everything much better than the high beams on my car. This was running the low beam and fogs.
On a side note, I am now being told I have to lead if im in a group because my lights are so bright.
I installed an LED headlight. It added a lot more visibility at night. Took 10 minutes or less to do.

There's a hint of blue with 10k but I like that. Switchbacks are dual colored directionals. When youre head lights are on the directionals are white like in the picture and when youre signaling they flash amber. I haven't touched the break lights but I did switch the rear parking bulb with an led so I can see more out of my rear camera.

Cibie lamps and some quality LEDs. It was the first thing I upgraded on my LJ. The jw speaker and truck lite LEDs are single units, which I didn’t like.

I bought 3 sets for 3 cars, all came out pretty good.
You may actually be able to find some pre-built projector housings for yours. I looked and looked and looked, and the only pre-built projector housings I could find for the Vue were for year models 07 and up. Mine's an 03.
So I had to build mine. And the parts I used were pretty cheap so you might save money just building your own anyways.
Here's the parts I used

HID-Warehouse HID Xenon Replacement Bulbs - H1 8000K - Medium Blue (1 Pair)
The paint I used was just a can of Rustoleum semi gloss black I got at Walmart for a few bucks.
I also purchased a separate set of headlights to do all this with, as this was my first time. I wanted to be able to take as much time as I needed with it. I can also easily switch back to stock at any time for whatever reason. I would suggest you do the same, if you're planning on building them.
To get them apart, I preheated our kitchen oven to 220 degrees. I lined an old baking pan with a wet towel and set the headlight on it, then put it in the oven for 10 minutes. This will soften the sealant enough so that you can pry the light housing apart.
Then when you're done with all of your modifications, remove as much of the old sealant you can and then line the edges of the housing with the new sealant. Heat it up like before and compress it back together.
I do not know of LED lights that are heated, but alternatively you can go hella h4 upgrade which I prefer to LED/HID

You'll have really good lights and will melt snow without problem.
If your headlights are in projector housings, you can get away with using *just* the right LED bulbs. The big concern is where, vertically, the cutoff is, so it doesn't blind other drivers (nor look like trash). I've had great luck with Beamtech's bulbs on Amazon [ LINK ] depending on the car I put them in. Again, gotta' have projector housings (which I think your car has, for DRL's), but these bulbs are oriented with the LED's at 3 & 9 o'clock when mounted, and cutoff at just the right height.
I bought some LED lights from amazon that are really bright. Here is a link to what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RYPNW4G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071LHP5WP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I installed these LUYED 2 X 1550 Lumens ... Error Free 921 ... W16W ... as my backup lamps.

Now to find out how long they last.
If you want a stock look, the Cibie headlights another user posted are the bee's knees. These remain among my favorite headlights, and I've driven a pretty wide variety of cars. Most people recommend Hella brand headlights because they're more widely available. Having used both, Hellas are absolute trash in comparison. Hellas beam pattern sucks, period.

Those reflectors, a drop in headlight relay harness, and some high wattage bulbs will turn night into day.
Those bulbs are shit. See. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/blue/good/good.html
You went to 1380 lumens, which is rather low. You could be at 2100 lumen, and see everything.
H11 -> H9 low beam mod = 55% increase in light output
9011 high beam mod = 48% increase in light output
Your best is to do a little mod, which can be done with a nail clipper (you just cut away some metal from the bulb housing. And use H9 bulbs instead. (http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-present/186450-headlamp-modification-h11-h9-retrofit.html).
These are the best fucking halogen low beams bulbs you can fit into a Subaru (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Standard-Halogen-Replacement-Headlight/dp/B003YMPN3A).
If you want to do the same mod to your highbeams, you can do so by swapping to an HIR 9011 bulb.(http://dastern.torque.net/Mods/HIRmod.html) (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-9011-Standard-Replacement-Headlight/dp/B00480J5CW)
Headlight went out, need to replace. Some information in my research is confusing:
Regarding upgrades:
Thank you.
I put these in my Jeep. They're awesome. And this is the LED bar I have.
This is for 12V, though. I've seen 12V ones for automotive use, but they get pretty hot even when bolted to metal.
I just looked back through my history, this is what I ordered..
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XHDYTGL/
but it's no longer available in H11 (on the .CA site) but on .COM this seems to be available:
https://www.amazon.com/BEAMTECH-Headlight-8000Lumens-Extremely-Conversion/dp/B06XHDYTGL/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=beamtech+h11&qid=1573045757&sr=8-4
What I liked about these is that they were fan-less. They've been running for a year so far without issues or decrease in brightness.
I don't know how much clearance you're going to have but if you can find a sealed beam conversion headlamp, you might be able to retrofit a projector like this, Nilight 2.5" Mini HID Bixenon Projector Lens for H1 Bulb Car Gift:chrome Shround https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B21R0TA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qQ5MybAAYM97K and install an H1 LED bulb.
This projector will give you a cutoff beam and even has a high beam solenoid inside to flip the cutoff plate away.
The back end might get too deep to fit between your triple and gauge cluster but it's the cheapest thing I can think of. It might be a challenge finding a chrome cover for the back.

07 4th gen here, but still somewhat applicable.
I did the low beam to H9 swap and LOVE it. I rarely run my high beams anymore, and I live out in rural country central VA.
Been running them for almost 4 months now with no issues. I do get flashes from oncoming traffic once in a while, but I think that's more due to me needing to re-aim my lights after the lift.
I ordered the standard Phillips H9 bulbs [from Amazon](Philips 12361B1 H9 Standard Halogen Replacement Headlight Bulb, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YMPN3A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eB4OAbTHBYA68) for $8 each (they're up to $11 now).
If you really want the classic vintage-ish look, you could replace the reflector itself with something more modern. The old bike reflectors (and even many more modern bike reflectors) are cheap crap, which seriously hampers the normal halogen bulb from performing.
A Hella Vision Plus or Cibie reflector would improve the light output quite a lot compared to the crap that's already on there. And that would look pretty darn retro.
A Truck-lite Phase 7 7-inch LED reflector looks fairly retro, it's a normal looking light but with a bar across it. It's not jarringly non-retro, anyway. And they output tons of light and are very cheap now, some of the cheaper DOT approved LED you can find and with great performance to boot.
https://www.amazon.com/Truck-Lite-27270C-Headlamp/dp/B007K8AA7I - here is the same thing on Kuryakyns site with better pics. - ignore the halos and stuff, those are all add-ons.
Don't go with LED "bulbs" in a Halogen reflector. It's illegal, and LED's don't work well in such a reflector - a halogen reflector is made to have a very specific size filament in a very specific point in space inside the headlight, and the more you deviate from that the more you'll spray light in any and all directions. HID, same thing, total crap solution and you can be ticketed for either.

Switching to LEDs would allow OP to remove all the complicated added circuits from the HIDs. Is it possible this is causing his problems? I believe it would help rule it out, at least.
Either way, I do recommend switching to LEDs if you can. You get rid of that extra wiring and LEDs are plug and play. I bought these and they are brighter than my OEM halogens but not as bright as most HIDs I have seen. They do spread a lot of light with the reflector housing, but I imagine your HIDs do the same thing anyway.
A post I can contribute to! I recently bought [these dope headlights] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VNBEJ1G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for my 16 year old Passport. The old ones were dim and the new ones are fantastic! A 4 star average and over 3000 reviews. Yes, they are 100 bucks but damn, so worth. Just be sure to find out what bulb type the car needs. Mine was a 9003 aka h4. You can find this by plugging your car's info into autozone.com. Look at a couple youtube videos to find out how to install the bulb: Mine had a rubber 'boot' that sealed the bulb in the housing and a metal clip that holds it in place. A zip tie or 2 to hold the wire and you are all set.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KYZU604/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've had these in for a few months now and I absolutely love them, but be warned you will piss people off. They're very clear and very bright and there will be people who hate you. Still recommend though!
I got the interior LEDs from eBay. I'd strongly suggest a trim tool if you don't have one (Amazon or Harbor Freight). I later replaced the cargo area LED with a larger LED array for more brightness; the other LEDs are all great and are similar color range of the approach lights if you have them.
The sway bar cuts back on the wobble you might feel on the back end when you turn. For me it made it feel a bit more sedan-like. I read through this extensive thread and decided to give it a go. It's $100 so not too much of an investment considering the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Pretty easy to install with the right tools. Ramps help but aren't necessary.
For the headlamps I bought these H9 bulbs with these harnesses. Both bulbs will work but the connector is different. I opted for the affordable harness so I could cut those up instead of the factory connectors so the bulbs would fit.
I've not actually used my oil drain valve yet as I'm just shy of 5k miles. Did my first oil change at 3k to get it installed and I'll probably change it again at 6k to test it out and get my intervals back on the 6k multiples.
Again, install was straight forward and I did use a torque wrench to tighten. The nipple is still within the plastic shroud and I have no worry about it hitting anything (if it does I have other problems). No leaks or anything.
The first reviewer with photos here has a w123 :)

Heres a cheaper option than the cibie, just as good quality. I can personally vouch for the quality of these.
Bulbs
Replacing these light bulbs are as easy any changing any old light bulb.
Were you looking for an upgraded light bulb that fits the pre-existing socket or some mounted lights like these?
Some of the mounted lights are actually cheaper than the LED fan-cooled business I've seen at auto parts stores.
I depends on what types of hellas you're getting. They have both fog lights and driving lights for the 500 series(ones I have). The fogs have a more dissipated beam pattern so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic, while the driving light are equivalent to high-beams. I installed the 500ff (clear lens) driving lights on the roof rack cross-member because I already have fog lights and so i can aim the beams further down the road. Many states make it illegal to install lights above your headlights though, but its usually not heavily enforced. I made mine removable so if I do get pulled over I can detach it and hopefully only give me a warning. Hopefully that helps.
These http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TWD5GY/ are the ones i have, and these http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-005750971-Series-Halogen-Lamp/dp/B002MOAHCI/ are the fog light version. They used to be made in Germany, then Mexico and now the current ones are made in India(heard that the quality dropped but its still decent). Personally I wouldn't want to use the switch they give you if your'e wiring them up independently from your headlights, its crap. I ended up buy a second fog light switch to wire up to run them.
heres an album http://imgur.com/a/Golcy of what I did with my lights.
They're just basic Phillips H9 bulbs. When the bulbs are actually brighter they don't need to use any marketing gimmicks.
Philips 12361B1 H9 Standard Halogen Replacement Headlight Bulb, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YMPN3A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_undRBbEY32SH9
You'll need two.
LED's use less power than regular bulbs. Because of this, the lights will blink faster (hyperblink). You need to add a resistor to the wiring for the turn signals to introduce more load which will slow them down.

Something like this would work.

Yes you are seeing white at the turn signal lights. When I am using side marker lights, low beams or high beams. Those turn signal lights will be white. But when I turn left, right, and hazard it will be back to amber.
Front turn signal LED lights(7444NA):
https://www.amazon.com/iBrightstar-Newest-Bright-Projector-Replacement/dp/B077P5CDSX/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523552526&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=ibrightstar%2Bx001Cy5ax1&th=1
Front head lights type: 9003/H4/HB2. If you want fog lights it is H8(H11/H8/H9):
https://www.amazon.com/LED-Headlight-Bulb-Conversion-Kit/dp/B075J8VQDX/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1521933924&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=h4+led&psc=1
DO NOT remove the original manufacture Dielectric Grease on the H4 socket. Unless you using some other brand of Dielectric Grease.
Side marker lights(2) has a bunch of names too. Type 194, T10, W5W(These are also the same lights for driver side(1), front passenger side(1), back passenger(1), trunk(1) and license plates lights(2)):
https://www.amazon.com/AUXITO-Chipsets-Replacement-Courtesy-License/dp/B071LHP5WP
So, this 10 pack you will be using 8 out of 10. Remember if it doesn't work turn it 180 degree.
https://imgur.com/a/gewfk
Back Reverse lights and back turn signal lights. Type 7443 you will have to get 2 of this. Making it 4 LED bulbs.
Not to worry that the LED is white for turn light. Because the back housing is RED. So White LED + RED = Bright Red. Be warn: We didn't use resistor front and back. So, we are getting hyper flashing.
https://www.amazon.com/iBrightstar-Newest-Projector-Replacement-Reverse/dp/B06XQWPKKX/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523552407&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=ibrightstar%2Bx001mz3ma3&th=1
For the back lights, you will need to use the philip screw driver, the X kind. So, you can take out the housing and install the LEDs. The very top red part are turns on when you use Side markers, low beam and high beam. And those top red lights are LED already. So you don't have to change those. All you need to do is the White one and the bottom Red one for both side. So you need a total of 4 LED type 7443.
You might want to get trim tools. Unless you want to use a t-shirt and a flat head screw driver. But having trim tools can help you with wire management for heads up display and for dash cam wire. I do recommend the trim those thats 13pcs or 14pcs. Because that 1 or 2 extra tool with give you the option to pop those plugs under the front of the car if you are going to replace the fog lights(H8 according to the manual).

I dropped these into my '16 iTouring the other day. The only complaint I have is Mazda's shitty ass way to switch out the low beam bulbs. You have to unscrew some bolts under the car near the wheel well and remove some plastic rivet fasteners inside the wheel well to be able to peel back the wheel well cover to access the low beams. It sucks but I got it done with the help of every cuss word in the English language. Not sure if switching out the bulbs is any different compared to the '16 considering the '17 got a facelift. Check the manual. Anyway, it was simply plug and play but there is a catch. High beam LED are pointless since a reflection set-up is used for factory halogen high beams and it was made for halogen; not anything else. Therefore, the high beam LED light is just scattered everywhere and is pretty much useless at night since the light isn't concentrated in one area. But the low beams have a projection set-up so it won't scatter light everywhere and you won't be blinding other drivers. Well, I don't think... I mean there is a cut-off like how the halogens were so I should be good... but regardless, LEDs are bright as hell.
You can change the halogen bulbs to LED bulbs. I am not sure what lightbulbs the Mazda 2 has. I just purchased these headlights for my Mazda 3: LED Conversion Kit
I am sure you can find the right bulbs for your car. All it takes is a bit of research.
Yes they do, but they aren't cheap:

This! the ones i was looking at have an adjustable cutoff so that you don't blind people because I'm not trying to be that person. Here are the ones for reference: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHD4HV3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a 2010 Lancer ES
I got these from Amazon.
I used these lights, they work for most of the lights you will encounter in a Camry, no dead ones, been working great for a year so far: 194 LED Light bulb, Yorkim 2017... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JRE38EA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Use this for the reverse:
AUXITO 912 921 LED Backup Light... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728DYR9H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I use Sylvania Silver Star Ultra for headlights
I also replaced my assembly with this:
Anzo USA 121181 Toyota Camry Projector with Halo/Black Clear with Amber Reflectors Headlight Assembly - (Sold in Pairs) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038AX6W8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_X9ACCb8QDG00C
You could swap in a lamp with a brighter high beam filament, supposing you can get it there. In the US 55/60 watts is legal and I replaced it with a 55/100. It would now be illegal for me to turn on my high beam, so I never will :-) Something like this. .

Go with the F16 models.
Auxbeam H11 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KYZU604/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7td0Db75P44T7
Auxbeam 9005 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G16BWLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gvd0DbGBCFQ01
Those are the low and high beams. Took like 20 mins to install both.
Here is the cheapest set of projectors I could find online. You still have to buy ballasts and bulb, and a relay wiring harness. It runs about $100.
You don't just drop in projectors typically. Usually there is some dremel modification required.

Searching for this takes me to Valeo 082440 on amazon.ca (am Canadian).
Is that what I want?
I just put these lights on my wife's 2010 Forester. The difference is astounding compared to stock. Especially when she's been driving around with one burnt out OEM light because I've been lazy. It jives with what you said because they are 3400K.
For plug and play: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X-tremeVision-Upgrade-Bulb-Pack/dp/B00U1OIESK/
I'm about to buy an HID kit for mine. I can't stand how dim it is on country roads at night.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy. I think they want BMW's to be more affordable to people. They're nice, yeah, but now the $30,000 base models come with 4 cylinder engines, cloth seats, halogen headlights, etc. You gotta pay attention to all the packages available. You could always try a kit like this:
https://www.amazon.com/OPT7-Headlight-Bulbs-Clear-Arc-Beam/dp/B00VNBDWPK/
Take a look at the customer images to get an idea if the color temperature you'll get. Again, it'll look nicer... but, some people are gonna hate you for it.
Is it these?

If you're up for some tinkering, I've seen a few SV650s with the headlight swapped for a Truck Lite 7" LED headlight:
