Wooooo okay! Here's 1-20, and I will give the bonus ones a go in just a few minutes! fear cuts deeper than swords
1.) Something that is grey. How about a knife set?!
2.) Something reminiscent of rain. Cinema Paradiso! The cover of it is two people in the rain :) (Movies wishlist)
3.) Something food related that is unusual. This Manatea infuser is unusual! (Default wishlist)
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) I have a pet wishlist and a wishlist for my best friend! This traveling litter box is the perfect combination--it's so I can take my kitty on trips to my best friend's place! (Kitty wishlist)
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! Why have just one book when you could have 3000?! This little usb is loaded with over 3000 classic novels. Yes, almost all of these novels are free on Project Gutenberg, but having them all in one spot ready for you to peruse is amazing. You're almost guaranteed to find a book worth reading that you haven't read yet! (Books wishlist)
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! Well, not a physical item, but I have an mp3! (Music wishlist)
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) Kitty nail caps! I have a sphynx, so I have to clip her nails roughly every week (otherwise when she scratches herself, she cuts herself up D:). Nail caps are a cute and more hassle-free way of dealing with her claws! (Kitty wishlist)
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. This one is pretty tough for me, actually--I love purposeful items! However, I already have a cheese grater, so this hedgehog shaped one isn't actually something I NEED--it's just so cool!! (Default wishlist)
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Life is Beautiful. It's a sweet, touching, and heartbreaking story of a Jewish father trying to keep the joy in life in a concentration camp. It's laugh-out-loud funny, and so sad you'll cry. Definitely worth watching. (Movies wishlist)
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. Packaged, high-cal foods will be really helpful! You have to keep your energy up while you're on the run, and you need a portable snack! These cookies are sure to give you the extra boost you need to escape the zombies. (Default wishlist)
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. Hmmm this is a toss-up for me. I need a laptop for life. I have a little chromebook, but when I need to update my resumes and write cover letters, I need to go to the library to use an actual computer to make sure the formatting is right. A laptop would help with the job hunt and (hopefully) help land me a job! (Expensive things wishlist) My other goal, to become healthier, would be helped by wrist weights to wear during my runs! No, it's not a huge amount of weight, but it will make my runs that much more difficult and help tone my arms! It's a small change with a big impact :) (Default wishlist)
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. Oh gosh, take your pick. Cat snuggie (kitty wishlist), sriracha (who doesn't love hot sauce?! Under $6 wishlist), a pumice stone (Under $6 wishlist), or a kitty laser toy! (kitty wishlist)
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? A $500 keyboard. I love playing piano, but I'm a young and flighty thing--I fully expect to be moving around a lot for the next 5-10 years, and I can neither afford an actual piano, nor can I imagine transporting one in and out of various apartments. This keyboard will give me the chance to practice and enjoy playing, but it's a much more compact and liveable way of doing so. (Expensive things wishlist)
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. A relatively cheap and yet still nice vacuum cleaner! Nice, easy to use, and practical :) (Expensive things)
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. A storm trooper USB! Cute and practical! (Default wishlist)
16.) Something that smells wonderful. Lavender chamomile bubble bath! I don't know about you, but few things smell more relaxing to me than lavender and chamomile, so a combo bubble bath just sounds like bliss to me. (Default wishlist)
17.) A (SFW) toy. Here's a whole bag of toys! And less than $10 too! My kitty would have a field day with all those toys :) (Kitty wishlist!)
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. A lunch box! I always brought my lunch to school, so every year I got a cool new lunch box for that year :) These ones are super cute, and insulated! (Default wishlist)
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. I've had a life-long Disney obsession! (Movies wishlist) My whole bathroom is Mickey themed (default wishlist), and I'm always looking for cool new Disney items to add to my wishlist! I seriously love Disney.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. You too can own the Sword of Gryffindor! (Expensive things wishlist) Not only do you get to wield the weapon that destroyed three pieces of Voldemort's soul, it's also pretty practical! It's a letter opener that you can proudly display resting in the hands of a lion :) (Expensive things wishlist)
Thank you for the contest! I hope you have a happy Easter!
> I actually used some last winter as kindling for my fire because I didn't have any thing else except big logs, they burn really well lol
Oh yeah. They burn real good. Full of calories. It's one of my favorite snacks but I've had to forgo them because I am counting calories now. When I look at that meager handful of 8 chips that represents 150 kcalories, it's hard to justify eating them.
And to think I used to eat them by the bag too... shudder
> I think vanilla icecream works best.
I was going to ask but I had assumed as much. That being said, I am definitely going to try it on peppermint as well... just because I like peppermint and I am curious if it will still work.
> I really can't explain the taste of vegemite even though I've eaten it for 27 years.
"Vegemite tastes like... it just tastes like Vegemite!" is always the answer I get when I ask, which is why I need to try it. Anything that can only be described by the identity property is something I have to try. ;)
> My advice is less is more with that stuff, don't use it like you would use jam (or jelly I think you call it) if you're having it on toast.
Don't be a hero, got it. Thank you for the tip, I would've totally used too much. I was thinking "peanut butter" amounts actually. I'll be sure to dial it back when I try it.
> I'll definitely try that one of I can get my hands on it! Thanks.
You may have to order it online. It's not a super common sauce even in the US as-of-yet. Keep in mind, if you love hot sauce for the heat, this one is on the milder side (I don't know if there's cultural heat tolerance differences).
A couple other hot sauce suggestion:
Frank's Red Hot Sauce: It's been around for a while, it's commercialized, but damn if it isn't good. Medium heat but strong cayenne pepper flavor with a vinegar base. Similar to Tabasco but more flavor less heat. A requirement for US style "Buffalo Wings."
Sriracha sauce (sometimes affectionately known as "cock sauce" due to the logo, at least in my neck of the woods) is also really good. Tough to explain the flavor, actually, but it's really, really well-balanced.
If you are into hot for the heat, Dave's is what you want to try. Hurtin' Habanero is the one I recommend for a good blend of heat and flavor; it's hotter than any other suggestion I've made on here, but it has LOADS of Habanero flavor and damn that is a tasty pepper! But it's mid-scale heat on Dave's own products.
The first Dave's product I ever tried was Dave's Insanity Sauce. At the time, I thought I LOVED hot food unconditionally; I'd get extra hot food from the Thai places and I loved jalapeno chips and things like that. Well, a friend said this stuff was "actually hot" and I should try a drop of it on my tongue. It had a REALLY good flavor, wow. And it wasn't that hot. So I took another drop myself. Still tasted soooo good.
Then it hit me. My mouth started to burn. A burn like I had never experienced. And wouldn't stop. Nothing would stop it. Ice-cream, milk, salt, oil (I was desperate). Best thing I could do was fill my mouth with cold water, hold still, and then fill with more cold water. I was able to return to my normal life after about 3 hours.
It was unpleasant on the way out too.
I now know that the upper-heat levels on Dave's is more for use in a dish to add heat, just a drop or two in a soup will be noticed. Or used as a challenge/haze.
Thanks for the sweet words! Here are the highlights of my food. Hope it helps!
Breakfast: Weekdays I eat what's below. Weekends are a toss up. If i can swing it, I just try to make it a brunch so I save breakfast calories.
Lunch/Dinner: Usually it's one of these recipes below. I try to keep meals under/around 300 calories to make room for dessert and snacks!!
These are my go to meals but I will always venture into skinnytaste.com to find something new!
Snacks/Desserts: I LOVE SNACKS. That's why I keep my meals low calorie. I eat the most snacks between lunch and dinner (usually pace myself with 1 an hour between 2pm and 4pm)
Sounds like she would like things I like so I will give you a couple links to places I like gifts from haha.

Jewelry inspired by something she likes
Good luck! I think a lot of girls appreciate the thought of something off a site like Etsy because the items are so unique. Type in one of her interests and something she wants/needs, like "Sailor Moon Blanket" and chances are you will find some super special item just for her. It is also nice to buy your significant other experiences rather than a physical object. Depending on how much you are looking to spend and how far in advance you are willing to plan, why not reserve tickets to a nearby con? What about a cute day trip to a little town she might like where you can let her pick out an item or you can buy a nice dinner or unique experience (boat ride? Etc.)
Have fun gift picking and enjoy! :)
'sup mofos, y'all ready?!
one of my all-time fave snacks pre-keto used to be a warm Auntie Anne's pretzel from the stand at the mall. this recipe is a surprisingly truthful approximation of the taste/texture (minus the grease) and definitely achieves that crisp but flexible bread-y texture that we all crave from a quality pretzel.
i call my dipping sauce "bowling alley cheese" because it reminds me of that particular variety of neon-orange nacho cheese that is traditionally served at your finer bowling establishments. ;)
these pretzels are pretty yummy on their own but dipping them into the cheese really catapults them from good to great. they're also quite simple to make and they'll be an easy sell to kids & non-keto'ers.
ingredients:
pretzels:
"bowling alley" cheese sauce:
directions:
cheese sauce:
((macros))
> makes 4 servings of pretzels & sauce.
> (PS: this cheese dough is mild enough in flavor that you can modify it and do a sweet version too; just skip the cheese sauce & Italian herbs, season pretzels with cinnamon & butter, then melt down some dark/keto-friendly chocolate for dippies.)
What exactly do you mean by 'healthy?'
Is it about calorie reduction or getting more nutrients? Or both?
A very simple, tasty one is roasted cauliflower. Cauliflower really benefits from browning. Preferably roasting. Just wash and dry it (thoroughly), cut into equally sized pieces, whether it be bite size or "steaks," toss in olive oil, salt & pepper (and garlic if you want), spread evenly on a roasting pan, but don't crowd it too much, and roast in the oven on the middle rack or higher at about 425-450F until brown... even nearly black in a few places. It's so simple and delicious.
It makes a great soup too, just blend it with either veg or chicken stock and either some fresh parsley or thyme.
Another veg that does well with char is broccoli. Steam, blanch (heavily salt your blanching or steaming liquid) or microwave (if you must) the cut broccoli stalks until about half done, drain and dry. Toss in olive oil, salt, minced garlic and chili flakes and grill on very high heat or broil until slightly charred. You won't believe how good it is.
Some great books for veg dishes are:
Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi
Tender by Nigel Slater (this one has a great chocolate beet cake)
The Art Of Simple Food II by Alice Waters (So many simple, classic veg preparations in this one.)

Regarding Mac & Cheese, here is page from Modernist Cuisine at Home:
http://i.imgur.com/E4dd4lQ.jpg
It involves using Sodium Citrate. Calm down! Don't be afraid. It's a type of salt derived from citrus fruits. If you like to cook with cheese this stuff will be your best friend. The only issue is you don't need very much of it, so you will need an accurate scale that can handle very small weights, but they're not that expensive and it'll pay for itself quickly in the amount you'll likely save in cheese costs, because.....
What it does is it helps emulsify the fats and solids of cheese when it melts and it can be used with just about every type of cheese that can melt, so that means you can use it to emulsify multiple types of cheeses at the same time. Why this matters for you? If you're trying to reduce calories you can mix your favorite cheeses with some lower calorie cheeses (like drained cottage cheese) and still end up with a really creamy sauce without having to add cream or butter. This stuff doesn't make Pasta & Cheese "healthy" but it does help you reduce the caloric value of a cheese dish without sacrificing texture... in fact it improves it.

I know exactly what you mean with the taste, I usually can't even hold the abv down if I taste it. So I would recommend you make cannacaps. You'll still get gross abv burps and farts but they won't be as bad.
First step would be to get your abv to a fine grind, basically powdered. It's not super important, but it makes a difference in a couple different ways, and mortar and pestle sets can be pretty cheap. Hell you could probably even makes one that gets the job done. If you do grind your abv further, that's gonna be the smelliest part of this process, so I'd recommend you prep your room better than you would just for vaping.
The next step would normally be to water cure but since you're in a dorm that's likely not an option due to both smell and access to equipment. I have another method you can use to cure your abv with a pressure cooker that doesn't require an oven, if you're interested I can write that out for you, but I'd imagine smell would still be an issue.
Once your abv is ready, you can start to cap them. 00 sized caps work best IMO, they're pretty big so they hold a lot of abv. You could totally fill them up one by one, but if you can I'd recommend grabbing a capsule machine so you can fill a large number of capsules (the one I linked does 100 at a time) in like 10 minutes. The machine also does a super good job at getting as much abv as possible into each cap, which is part of why a super fine grind is important. Oh and if you do go for the machine, MAKE SURE you get one that matches the size of caps you have, I made that mistake once.
Regarding coconut oil, I don't usually use it but I've heard really good things about it maximizing THC absorption. I don't believe you can easily infuse your abv with oil without a kitchen/smell, but if you wanted to you could put a bit in the caps with the abv.
And there you go, simple cannacaps! I'd recommend you have a large fatty meal with or soon after taking the caps to maximize absorption. I'd also like to note that IME abv cannacaps fuse is even more unpredictable than just eating it, I've had it take like 4 or 5 hours to hit with caps.
You're right, I am all of those things, and dudes are my specialty. (For the record, I do like Tabasco)
I find different dishes call for different sauces. The more sauces you try, the better of an idea you'll get for yourself what works with what. Note that the below links might not be the best prices and you can probably find a lot of these sauces at your local grocery store (unless you live in some cultural black hole like the American midwest). I spent my earlier years in southern California and developed a taste early on for Mexican cuisine, so my taste is highly reflective of that influence.
I enjoy these Mexican-style sauces:
El Yucateco is a great brand, in my opinion. They have a lot of awesome varieties. If you go to an authentic Mexican restaurant, you'll likely find it there:
There are some other popular sauces which if I were to omit, people around here would be very angry:
There are a lot of boutique sauces out there that just pump out the Scoville units for the hell of it. A lot of them are gag gifts or novelties, but there are people out there that genuinely enjoy the rush you can get from them - you do get an adrenaline rush, it IS a high. Most of the sauces like this, however, are intended for cooking beef chili and other dishes where a small amount can be distributed through a larger portion of food.
Cook Books- thug kitchen, thug kitchen, thug kiiiitchen! (the original is essential, the other two are just ok) and 'Isa Does it' which is a little more involved but DAAAAAAMN those recipes are worth it... just had her mushroom and tofu stroganoff tonight. Feeling so fat and happy!
Things I wish I would have known sooner- so many people will confuse vegan and GF 😑 and it's 100% easier to just bring a filling snack to share to parties then just trying to eat the whole veggie tray. Chances are most people won't want your "weird vegan food" and so then you can eat it all and won't go hungry! Yay! Unless they do try it and like it then you get to shout HA ITS VEGAN! Double yay!! Just kidding, kind of. But really social things got so much less awkward when I just started bringing my own bomb dishes to "share". Also a lot of cities have local vegan meet ups/ Facebook groups and it's nice to be apart of those, and people In my city are always sharing what groceries have sales/ new veg items. That really helps!
Go to meals- I ate A LOT of gardein and freezer steam in bag veggies when I first went veg, I never even cooked real tofu on my own until years later. I was a lazy asshole who ate at McDonald's. BARF. Also Vegan Basil Cashew Cream Lasagna and the best cheese sauce for Mac and cheese or literal pour it on anything: BEST vegan cheese sauce
Oh and if you haven't discovered my lord and savior cheezus NOOCH ...you need this in your life ( also used in above recipe) : Nutritional yeast
Make it easy on yourself until you figure out what works and be forgiving with your self if you mess up, it's a journey to a kinder healthier happy life not perfection ✌️
I learned to make thai red curry by watching this video.
Couple of things I do:
I use this calculator from the Mayo Clinic. According to that, if you are completely inactive 1600 calories a day will maintain your current weight. So if you consume, 1100 calories a day you will lose one pound per week (3500 calories per pound). You can eat a bit more and you'll simply lose weight at a slightly slower rate. Just never go above 1600 calories in a day.
Finding foods that taste good is key to success. I make a shake with the extreme milk chocolate flavor of this protein powder and soy milk. It is delicious. It literally tastes like a chocolate milkshake (as the Amazon reviews confirm), but is really good for you. Low calorie and high in protein. Another dish I make are these beans with garlic powder and other spices. Sometimes I add rice, but not too much (because rice are pure carbs). These beans are high in fiber and protein, so they are perfect. And the spices make the whole thing taste really good. The full receipe is here. The whole dish only costs $1.30 a meal and you can literally have all the ingredients shipped to your door from Amazon. Another tip is that if you drink, you can use the website Get Drunk Not Fat to make efficient choices about what you drink. :) Finally, be sure to take a multivitamin to make sure you get all the nutrients you need even though you have a calorie deficit.
Eat smart and the pounds will fly off in no time. I find the Hall of Fame to be really awesome motivation. With each pound you lose it will become easier to stay away from the bad stuff. Then once you are at your goal weight, you can start to eat more calories because then you just need to maintain. You don't have to be perfect, you just need to make smart choices overall. You can do it, I promise. :)
The folks at Modernist Cuisine discovered the sweetest of tricks, which is that the addition of sodium citrate to melted cheese stabilizes it and keeps it from re-hardening. This means that you can make a sauce or dip that has the consistency of alfredo or nacho cheese or Velveeta or cheese whiz, from any cheese including delicious high quality ones, and get a stable, creamy result that still maintains all the delicate nuance and strength of flavor of the good cheese you used to make it. You can also use a variant of this recipe to make American cheese style slices that melt easily but taste like, well, real, good cheese.
on Amazon:
sodium citrate, enough for a long time, $15 and free shipping
a digital scale that measures in hundredths of grams, $36.60, free shipping
immersion blender, $15.83 and free shipping.
This puts you at roughly $66. If you decide you want to throw a few more bucks into it, or he already has an immersion blender or something, get him some nice cheese to melt.
... If you wanted some non-food-related ideas, I love this product and have just been waiting for the right occasion to give this to someone.
Ramen packet.
MCD pancake butter or two.
Carrot.
Fresh greenbeans/sugar snap peas (lots of grocery stores have them in loose bulk. Enough for X meals)
Sriracha packet (panda Express has them. Just ask do t have to buy anything)
Can do this as a soup or drained noodles. Add water , boil with sliced carrots and beans/peas. Few mins depending on your taste for softness. Add noodles cook the 3 min for them.
Optional: drain water (keep for soup)
Add ramen flavor packet and butter. Mix up and eat. (Sriracha as needed)
Garlic powder (very little) is also good but not required. Can make your own seasoning as well and ditch the ramen seasoning. I'd say play around at home either way. Lots of veggie options out there that are light and will keep a day or two.
Also, there are lots of ramens out there besides the basic ones at normal grocery stores. My city has a pretty big vietnamese community and their grocery stores have some pretty fancy ones. I'll find and link some as they are on amazon as well. These have 3, 4, 5 packets of seasonings/oils/spices and are pretty dang good (I tend to add veggies to most)
Dont like/want noodles? Rice works too. I'm sure there are other options as well. Cant think of any at the moment.
Oh yeah. Dried mushrooms. The asian market or Amazon should have those too. Great to add. Add towards end. Don't need too much hydration.
https://www.amazon.com/Indomie-Instant-Noodles-Certified-Original/dp/B00HXIXWKM/
https://www.amazon.com/Mama-Tom-Yum-Flavour-Noodles/dp/B000QFOXTS/ this ones spicy!
https://www.amazon.com/Wild-Mushroom-Gourmet-European-Mushrooms/dp/B075NVDRLY/
Spices and condiments should always get a priority. Try to add something to your inventory each month, so you can have variety even when it's the end of the month and you are down to half a case of ramen and some rice.
So, for that naked pasta - 2 or 3 tbs of margarine or extra-virgin olive oil, a small clove of garlic, pressed, a drizzle of balsamic reduction ~an eighth of a teaspoon, be scant with it - microwave in a container with a cover until just hot, blend by shaking. Drizzle over your veggies and pasta. No need to use it all at once - it will keep nicely.
Ok, now I'm hungry. Which reminds me - broke college students should probably get into lacto-fermentation. Saurkraut, kimchee, etc all add tremendous nutrition and flavor at very low cost. /r/fermentation has you covered. The big win here is that you can scoop up all the marked-down produce and ferment it. It's also a thing that complements /r/freeganism. Saurkraut is particularly easy and I promise you - if you think it's kinda sour and yet bland, it doesn't have to be. And it's cheap like borcht.
Hey all,
Made my first pie this weekend. Per /u/jaaypeee very simple recipe seen below. Not the prettiest pizza, but it tasted great! I'm glad it came out a little Frankenstein-ish because it leaves plenty of room for improvements! Next time I'm making a sauce, hit me up with any simple recommendations!
I bought this flour and yeast. Baked at 550F in a cast iron that I sealed with bacon grease the night before. I couldn't believe nothing stuck! It was an AWESOME experience and I already ordered a baking steel and plan to make more pies at my girlfriend's parents place this coming weekend. A special thanks to /u/jaaypeee for the post and tips!
>I used the 48-72 Hour NY Pizza Dough recipe from the book The Elements of Pizza by Ken Forkish. This was the second time using a baking steel. I heated the oven to 550 degrees fahrenheit and let the steel come to temp for about 45 mins. The pizzas took 5-6 mins to bake.
Ingredients
Method
Get some sodium citrate and use this recipe for silky mac and cheese.
It is slightly harder than Kraft and dirties a few more dishes, but infinitely better and more fun as you can choose the cheese. My favorite is to use a white sharp cheddar cheese and smoked gouda.
Fun times can also be had by using pepperjack cheese and cheddar to basically make fresh nacho cheese sauce. If you're spice head you can use habeñero-jack.
EDIT: I forgot the best part of this cheese sauce. It actually reheats perfectly! You can make a batch of the sauce ahead of time and use it for several days afterwards so you just have boil pasta and add the previously made sauce.
My needs list: This schmansy thing for my knee which has been killing me since I started waitressing. I think it would help. I'm not really sure honestly haha.
My nail polish list: It's an unhealthy obsession. BUT LOOK AT HOW PRETTY IT IS!!!!!
Add-ons: Need I explain ?
Food stuff- These are wacko expensive but they look so YUMMY
For Albus- because I love my kitteh and these look so awesome
Movies- Because Wall-E is the cutest thing ever and well everyone needs it in their life.
Music and Books- because I love BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKIIIIIIINNNNGGG
Wants- I've never really had any sort of fancy camera. My last camera I had for 6 years before it broke. So I have this on my wl currently :)
last but not least my silly NSFW list has this awesome thing and I mean WHO DOESN'T WANT THAT IN THEIR LIFE????
This was fun, thanks!
Hey a fellow vegetarian Indian! I've been on this diet for over 8 months now and it's definitely possible, although not eating eggs will make it a tad harder. Below are some things (sans eggs) that I eat regularly. Note that this is a little heavy on carbs for a strict keto diet since will end up eating between 30-40g of carbs per day. The daily limit to keep you in ketosis varies from person to person. This worked for me. I don't calorie count since it's too much of a hassle for me. So you might want to tailor this plan based on your needs. I've changed parts of this diet since I started working at a new place where I can get cafeteria food.
Breakfast: Bullet proof coffee. It's simple, fast, keeps you satiated and is heavy on fat. After having this, the rest of your meals only need to be low carb, with good amounts of protien and fat.
Other meal ideas:
Hope this plan gives you a starting point. Believe me when I say this diet works! You feel much better after cutting out the carbs, especially after being on a carb heavy diet such as a vegetarian Indian diet. Good luck!
Here is what you're going to do: you're going to cheat.
First, buy Sodium Citrate. Sodium citrate is a very powerful emulsifier, and will let you make cheese sauce of a perfect consistency with no guesswork, using just cheese and, well, that's pretty much it. The result is a sauce where the cheese flavor is not covered up by milk or butter.
There are a lot of recipes that you can find online using sodium citrate, but in my experience the best is this: boil 1lb of dry pasta to just shy of al dente in salted water, drain but reserve the pasta liquid, add 1-1.5 cups of the pasta liquid back in, add 1Tbsp sodium citrate, then gradually, mixing as you go, add 1lb of shredded cheese. Use whatever cheese or combination of cheeses you like, use more cheese if you want a saucier mac and less cheese if you want a less saucy mac. You'll probably need to add more liquid--if you do, use beer, wine or the pasta liquid, and only add a bit at a time. Mix everything up well over low heat and you'll get a perfectly creamy mac and cheese with intense cheese flavor. You can also add spices and other flavors--I like a little hot sauce, a little garlic powder, a little paprika and a teaspoon or two of brown sugar.
This sauce will never, ever break. You can try your best to break it but it won't happen, and if it does just add another pinch of sodium citrate, heat it up, mix it together and problem solved. So stick it in a casserole dish, top it with bread crumbs or cheese, and bake it just the same way you would a normal mac and cheese!
A miniature sewing kit. When you’re running missions outside, clothes tend to get ripped, and with only limited numbers, life can get rough. A sewing kit helps.
Spirarcha chili sauce. If your soldier likes spicy foods, send them this. It’s spicy, it has flavor, and it will last them a few months.
Socks and underwear. Send them hiking socks and replacement pairs of underwear. Clothes tend to get gross and if they don’t have laundry, sometimes it is for the best to toss out old underclothes and wear new ones.
Beef jerky.
Trail mix of various types.
Great ideas for one-time gifts. These range from relatively cheap, to pricy and are a great surprise to a soldier stationed anywhere. I’ve included links to the products to give you an idea of what they look like, though don’t take those links as the only/cheapest place to find them:
Adjustable two-point sling. On base they have to carry around a weapon everywhere, and on mission they’ll be going some serious distance with it in their hands. If they are still using an Army-issue plain sling life is going to get a bit annoying. An adjustable two-point sling makes things more convenient and lets them ready a weapon to fire without an awkward movement on a mission. Ignore this if they are using a machine-gun, because those use heavy duty slings. Various companies make these, I prefer the VTAC, but they are all similar in make.
Surefire Earplugs. On mission, soldiers are supposed to wear earplugs, but many don’t because its uncomfortable and often all they are issued are cheap low qualifty plugs. Surefire earplugs conform to the shape of the ear and they are designed to allow someone to still be able to hear conversation level noise while protecting from high level noise. These are great.
Head-Loc helmet straps. One of the greatest pains is a helmet that won’t stay secure. The Head-Loc straps stay tighter and make the helmet so comfortable that you forget you’re wearing it.
PMAGs. Magpul plastic magazines, or PMAGs are high quality replacements for metal GI magazines. Army issued metal magazines are often used for years past the date that they should be retired and they are prone to feeding issues (I won’t get into the details) and PMAGs fix many of those issues and give a soldier more confidence in their equipment. A combat load is 7 magazines, so don’t feel the need to buy more than that, and even one or two PMAGs is greatly appreciated. Ignore if they are using a machinegun.
Head-lamp. Walking around an outpost at night is tricky and Afghanistan can get dark, a head-lamp is a great help to keep your soldier from stubbing their toe or walking into barbed wire. Get only with some kind of red or blue light filter.
Mechanix gloves. Soldiers need to wear gloves on mission and they tend to get torn up, a replacement pair of mechanixs gloves is a good choice.
College will do that to you! The first time I tried it, I attended 1/2 of every year and spent the other 1/2 working to save money to go back to classes.
Funny story about college:
I shared a two bedroom apartment with 3 roommates, plus me. One summer, we had another girl all to move in for a month. So, we added a third twin bed in the master bedroom. five of us in apartment built for four was pretty good, until the nightly sleepovers began and we regularly had 9 people in our little place. Anyway, five of us really liked to burn things. We always had a fire going or some candles or random incense.
One night, I told my roommates about a Mexican place I had gone to for dinner and they burned a fresh tortilla chip as the candle in a dessert. It smelled heavenly. So, we decided to try burning random stuff to see how it smells. All was well until a guest tried burning a strand of her hair... the apartment smelled for days 😝
Bonus story: the same summer three of my roommates and I went to the beach. We had a brilliant idea to swim out to the mile buoy. The swim was fun, the water was gorgeous out there, and it was so peaceful. The swim back to shore was the most terrifying two hours of my life. I didn't think we would ever make it back.
I really wanna try the hippos! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000M2PSDU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GiOnDb9NAMHDM
I've been really going down the rabbit hole with cheese sauces since I started making beer cheese dip for Oktoberfest a few years ago. The things I've learned are:
This all goes for creamy mac & cheese and sauce but I did a baked mac 'n beer cheese for Oktoberfest this year (topped with homemade marble rye bread crumbs) that was phenomenal. All I did was take that creamy recipe, drop it in a 9" x 13" pan, top it with the bread crumbs, and bake it at high heat for 15 minutes or so just to brown up the topping. My advice for doing this baked version is to use more roux and less milk/beer than you would normally. It set up into a delicious baked loaf of cheese and pasta without any egg or other binder. The result was super rich and flavorful.
Copying and pasting for you my recommendations to a friend the other day who is starting Keto:
Your friends:
Avocados (very good fats + potassium), eggs, butter (I think you're allowed clarified butter on Whole30), veggies, fish, coconut oil (I get this at Costco), coconut milk (the pure stuff in a box or can), macadamia nuts (in limited quantities), Swerve / erythritol, sparkling water (La croix is fantastic), decaf or herbal tea - (green tea especially is great because it helps with fat-burning, balancing blood sugar, lowering appetite, and has lots of antioxidants), Cauliflower rice - this saves me, Roasted vegetables
Suggestions/links to purchase:
Magnesium supplement I use (should also help a bit with sleep)
Potassium additive - NoSalt or NuSalt - add it to your food if you're not getting enough Potassium in your diet (most people don't) - you can probably find this in the grocery store for less $$, but I don't know for sure
Decaf green tea I drink 3 times a day - it's decaffeinated with CO2, not chemicals, and it's organic.
SWERVE erythritol sweetener - 1 pack or 2 pack
STUR water flavor drops - for keto champagne or just to add to water
Miracle noodles - they are definitely available at Whole Foods, or you can also find them at a few asian grocery stores (shiritaki noodles). These taste bland and almost gross on their own, but if you add sauce and meatballs, they do a pretty good job of passing for spaghetti if you're desperate.
Silicone candy molds for keto fudge and other keto candies - they seem superfluous, but after you try making keto fudge in a regular pan, you'll realize how much easier these are for portioning and for getting out of the pan.
And finally, the INSTANT POT - I recommend this to everyone I know. My partner and I use it multiple times a week, it is amazing, it does everything. Pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, browner, yogurt maker (also makes julienne fries!!). Seriously you cannot go wrong with this thing.

I've been switching back and forth between a couple of meals. Pretty basic overall:
Other than that it has just been plain salads, greek yogurt + chocolate whey powder for a snack sometimes, Soylent, coffee, and lots and lots of water.
That said, I just ordered some Shirataki Pasta and PB2 for some additional flavors in my life :) We'll see if they're any good.
Get a dehydrator. Get your potatoes, rice, beans, vegetables, whatever, and cook them, then dehydrate them. Then you can reconstitute them by boiling in water. Include pasta. You can probably buy dehydrated beef somewhere, but as I'm vegetarian I prefer TVP which is really easy to cook, high protein, and takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with. Here is a really good powdered milk I've tried. Also look at protein powders that weightlifters use. Filling and doesn't take up much space. Also, powdered eggs.
Include bullion cubes, spices, herbs, sauce mixes. You can put all your food together in one bag to mix and match, or vacuum seal them individually to make single meals. I use a system like this either on it's own or to compliment foraged foods like purslane, cattail roots, berries, nettles, stuff like that. Familiarize yourself with edible and medicinal plants in your area.
There are also lots of instructions on the internet for making your own MRE's, with lots of good advice.
You'l be able to custom make your meals, and get a lot more bang for your buck than with Mountain House. If you eat meat, you'll have more options than I do. Spam packets and tuna packets are good additions.
I have a stupid simple but really popular soup: 1 part winter squash puree, 2 parts coconut milk with 1-2 T Mae Ploy red curry paste per cup of orange veg puree soup. I like Chaokoh coconut milk, because I can get a return of the oil split when I fry the paste, which is visually pleasing. If I am making enough quantity, I like to use a variety of orange veg/squash, freshly roasted, because that yields the most complex and interesting flavor. With light curry seasoning, it is a real hit for funeral meals or meals for shut ins.
That said, I am interested in tips for cleanly splitting winter squashes for roasting to make the puree. The things are roll-y and tough, no matter how sharp my blacksmith grandson makes my cleaver! My father, God rest his soul, made a starting cut in a vise with a circular saw and I do the same thing if I am quantity cooking them, but there has to be a better kitchen safe answer if I am just feeding a few folks. Helpful thoughts?
My favorite Thai dish to order is red Thai curry w/o rice BUT! You'll need to ask the restaurant to make it without sugar. Most restaurants are perfectly willing to do this for you, and my local restaurant has come to know that it's my regular order.
Alternatively, I'd highly recommend this super easy (once you own red Thai curry paste) recipe that I make every week. It feeds us for three days or more straight and gets to the heart of my Asian food cravings without fail.
I also have a pretty easy recipe for Indian butter chicken which, just, yum.
My random user is /u/sweetbeauty
I had TONS of things in common with my match. She likes lisa frank and I like lisa frank. She likes adorable necklaces and so do it! She likes kinder hippos and I love those damn things!! They are on one of my wishlists. She wants this and I bought that exact same set on 01/30 of this year. She likes Rachael Ray and that is my favorite cookware set. I have her plates in green! She likes colorful knives, guess who bought that set back in March? She has contacts and I have contacts! I just added that to my wish list too. She likes makeup and I love makeup. Those brushes are amazing, btw. She also had quite a few makeup items that I liked, but I wasn't about to link all those. Ditto with books!! My random person is pretty awesome.
Also, welcome!!

You should make your own pizza. It's super easy, pretty fun and tastes amazing.
Frank Pinello pizza recipe. He owns one of the top pizza places in New York with lineage back to I think Grimaldi's which I think was the first pizza place in NY. Could be wrong but the story is something like that maybe different shop.
Also, the people hosting the video. Munchies. They have a lot of awesome videos.
Base -
Sauce -
That is it, you just mix them together.
I've made 5 so far and kept the dough for up to 5 days in the fridge, it was still amazing.
edit -
You also need a pizza stone, or a tray but that is all in the video.

It's way cheaper than buying a pizza too.
DON'T KILL ME GINGER but /U/PUREBREDGINGER, I love your ginger head. I think it suits you. But I totally understand the need for change. I would say that a dark color would look great on you with your pale skin. Maybe a chocolate brown. Yeah! Do that!
I love candy!
Since I didn't see anyone mention this here, I figure I ought to:
If you like the texture of melted Velveeta (and, let's be real, who doesn't), get on Amazon and by a bag of food-grade Sodium Citrate.
Here's a link. it seems expensive, but one bag will last you for a very long time.
This stuff is the chemical compound in stuff like Velveeta and Kraft slices thq t makes it melt so well. Mix about 14 grams (about 3 teaspoons) of the stuff to half a bottle of beer, bring to a boil, mix in about a pound of any freshly shredded cheese, and then blend with an emulsion blender.
Bam, perfect cheese sauce.
The last time I did this, I did exactly what I said above, and added 1 pound of taco spiced beef and a can of Rotel, and it vanished quickly.
Let me be clear: I have no problems with Velveeta, it's great. That said, this stuff allows you to get Velveeta like melt out of ANY cheese you want, or any mixture of cheeses, and that's awesome.
Yea, prime ship is gone on that one BUT ... a 2 LB package for $13.90 (about $0.44/ounce) is available with prime ship here
And yes! peanut flour = powdered peanut butter. to eat like peanut butter, add water salt + sweetener of your choice. Bonus? I can't go digging into these packages with a spoon like I do with regular PB
Edit to add: If you're not signed up for Amazon Smile, these links direct you to it and Amazon will automatically donate to whichever charity you choose - no additional money from you is required. Cheap way to donate!
It is really cool that you decided to become a vegan at 15! I made the switch when I was 22.
This should help you get started:

Regarding what to eat, look into Indian food (Full disclosure, I'm Indian). We have some 27 states and each state has its own cuisine. There is a lot of variety. Plus, our food tends to be spicy. So, you don't have to worry about bland or boring food.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_cuisine
Start with something simple like rice and curry. It is very easy to make them. Curry powder or spices needed to make curry should be available at grocery stores.
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/vegan-curry
Since you already have tofu. Check out dishes (stew) that are made with Paneer (Farmer's Cheese). Tofu is a very good substitute for Paneer. This stew can be had with rice or flat-bread.

Whenever plant milk comes up, r/vegan always recommends oat milk. You can just buy oats from the store and make oat milk at home.

Nutritional yeast is a very good investment. Just sprinkle some Nooch on any dish, to make it taste better.

Finally, you have supplement your vegan diet with Vitamin B12. B12 is made by microbes in sand, and not found in plant-based food.
B12 supplements are the easiest way to get them.

My good news is that today I ran the numbers and my fundraising committee raised $21,435 for a local Special Olympics competition, the largest student run one in the world! Our group raised twice as much as last year and it means we can make this years twice as good!
Edit: If I win, without being selfish, is Death Wish Coffee to get me to winter break and finals!
EDIT: Also, congrats on the job! What kind of writing is your favorite?
Percentages are more useful for people on medical keto, say epileptics. Here, it is more typical to track in grams.
People on here tend to have the most success keeping to 20 g net carbs per day which is carbs minus fiber (in US). Outside US the label typically already reflects the math, is my understanding.
So, you can eat anything that fits into your macros. The calculator in the sidebar is a good one, set carbs to 20 g and activity to sedentary, most folks do a 20% deficit.
If you want to eat pinto beans, the rest of your day has to be pretty carb free. Black coffee and a steak for your other meal would fit nicely. ;)
As an alternative, Black Soybeans (have only seen them canned) are very low in net carbs and are great in burritos, tacos, etc.

If you've got an Asian grocery store near you they will most likely carry hondashi, http://www.amazon.com/Ajinomoto-Dashi-Soup-Stock-5-28/dp/B0002YB40O and may have what you need to make dashi, kombu, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombu, and katsuobushi, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katsuobushi (it will come pre-shredded in a bag). Dashi is one of the easiest stocks to make, only takes about 30 minutes or so, http://japanesefood.about.com/od/soup/r/konbukatsudashi.htm
The Japanese do have teir own version of curry and it is delicious. I think they got it from the British so it's a re-interpretation of a re-interpretation. It's one of the most popular foods in Japan. It's usually made with pork, but if you're going to make it with katsu, make it vegetarian. You can buy a box of curry roux at most Asian grocery stores, http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Curry-Sauce-8-4oz-pack/dp/B0011UGYLM to use. Basically, take a pot, add a bit of oil (for Asian food I like peanut), cook some white onions in the oil, I also add some sliced garlic which is not traditional, add some potato and carrots (you may want to cook them half way first), add water, simmer for about 20 minutes, add the curry roux, stir it in the simmering water and it will break down, and then continue for 5 minutes or so. The curry roux will have instructions on the back of the box, it's super easy. This is the basic version but there are all sorts of variation, some put in grated apple or even coffee in it! It's my favorite thing to eat with katsu.
What's your macros? You'll feel better by eating against your macros rather than just calories. Macros are simply a math formula (protein + carbs + fats = calories). Most people under-eat for their protein requirements & over-eat per their carb requirements, which makes a weight-loss program difficult because you won't have as much energy or feel as full as you would if you were to eating according to your individual macro numbers instead.
Have you tried Soylent (it's a meal replacement, not just a protein shake) yet? The blend-it-yourself chocolate powder is $1.83 per serving (400 calories with 20 grams of protein).
Do you like to cook, or are you willing to meal-prep? Making your own pasta is pretty fun (and easy!). You can create a huge variety of noodles with that base recipe, including stuffed raviolis. Homemade bread is also awesome. I primarily do no-knead bread (loaves, rolls, etc.) & bread-machine bread. Costco sells 25-pound sacks of flour for like $13. Depending on supply costs in your area, a typical loaf runs maybe 50 cents or so. I buy my yeast in bulk (I keep it in the freezer, to extend the shelf-life) & also make sourdough starter.
Yes, it is a delicious soda. It is made with natural sugar, so it tastes better. The tamarind is kinda mellow sweet, and I love the lime.
And as far as the chili powder on the lollipop, in Mexico it is common to eat chili powder on fruits. It isn't hot at all, more like a paprika hot. I buy Tajin powder and use it on damned near everything. Especially grilling meats. It is designed just for fruit though. Chili, lime, and salt powder. Delicious.
>vegetarian (I could get 3x the protein for the same price through Quorn multibuys)
Oh, vegetarian food that’s rich in amino acids can be much cheaper than resorting to buying Quorn!
Buy dry pulses in bulk, they’re dirt cheap, very versatile, and they don’t spoil. Lentils, beans, peas, and chickpeas. Brown rice, wild rice, and whole wheat flour are also very cheap when bought in bulk.
They’re usually cheapest at Asian markets, but you can also get them at wholesalers (like US Foods, Sam’s Club, and Costco) or even online for delivery.
I would also recommend the following soy based products:
Nutrela soy chunks (the brand most people in India use) - 2.64 lb for $25. (That’s enough for 20 dinners) They’re soft, chewy, and juicy. You can use them in dishes that would usually call for chicken breast. Great in a curry, with sides of green peas and rice.
A recipe to get you started: http://www.bharatzkitchen.com/recipe/masala-nutri-soy-chunks-curry/
TVP (nutri keema) - 2.5 lb for $10. (again, that’s plenty for 20 dinners) Works great in any recipe that calls for minced beef, like chili, stews, and casseroles.
A recipe to get you started: https://hebbarskitchen.com/soya-keema-recipe-soybean-keema/
Ingredients:
Instructions:
Put olive oil, onion, and chicken into large pan on the stove. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink on the outside. Add garlic and cook for another minute or so. Add every other ingredient and bring to a boil. Reduce heat slightly and let cook uncovered for 20 minutes or so.
Tweaks:
You can increase the amount of cheese in the recipe to help thicken the sauce a little. You can also top with more cheese or sour cream after serving.
I didn't have any jalapeno or other peppers on hand but you can definitely add them in for extra heat. Speaking of heat, this chili does have a bit of a kick to it so if you're sensitive to spice just leave out or reduce the amount of Cayenne Pepper.
Finally, you could serve with pork rinds or something if you wish to have a crunch.
Nutrition:
Makes about 11 cups of food, which I estimate to be about 6 servings (I took about 1 cup out to eat. Ended up going back for seconds)
My wife and I are Thai curry fiends. I will give what tips I can, and a simple recipe.
BONUS STAGE
We made this for years, but there was still a Thai restaurant that added another flavor we just couldn't nail down. As it turns out, it was strips of kaffir lime leaves. If you are a Thai curry fanatic, this is the piece that really brings it all together. The bad news is, they are usually pretty difficult to come by, so we decided to just pick up a tree and plant it for year-around access. (we live in Texas, so we don't have to keep it indoors).
I posted about Sodium Citrate a while ago and I love the bejeezus out of it. I'm glad you do, too!
It turns any cheese into a creamy, velvety, sauce when used. My favorite use so far is making Queso with Pepperjack cheese. I get mine from Amazon for around $15.00 USD. https://www.amazon.com/WillPowder-Sodium-Citrate-16-Ounce-Jar/dp/B00250Y9Y6
Also, an immersion blender will be your best friend when it comes to making not just cheese sauces, yet making pureed foods (hello, creamy and cheesy cauli-mash!), custards, whipped cream, gravy, - so many possibilities.
Also, for extra flavor: I add in Seitenbacher soup mix to some cheese and vegetable dishes. Amazon link is here: https://www.amazon.com/Seitenbacher-Vegetarian-Vegetable-Seasoning-5-Ounce/dp/B000FAPM2Q
It add a whole new dynamic to one's flavor palate. I use it to take the "green" taste out of vegetables I don't care for much like green beans. It's also vegetarian-friendly. I find it amazing addition to chicken. cream, and tomato-based dishes. I started off using it sparingly due to the strong taste but love the flavor. It's a little higher in salt, but balancing out one's potassium shouldn't be an issue.
As a Wisconsinite, beer cheese soup is a must around here and this helps mimic the flavor due to having some yeast extract. I usually slip in some Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest Märzen, New Glarus Spotted Cow, or a Guinness if my macros are low for the day. :D
The recipe I used was based off Paula Deen’s Southern Fried Chicken recipe with some modifications: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/southern-fried-chicken-recipe.html
The 3 major modifications I made:
The most challenging parts of the cook were breaking down the chicken and keeping the oil at a steady 350.
Food ingredients
Tools
Prepping (the day before)
I front-loaded some of the work the day before, too, but you could do this the day of.
Break down the chicken
I brute forced 4 chickens on Friday and didn’t do enough research… here’s a good video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGb1G3CFZvc Another good one from Alton Brown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ9OLPC-dkE
I ended up with 2 drum sticks, 2 breasts, 2 thighs, and 2 wings. All of the pieces should include the bones, including the breast. Set it aside.
Create the brine
Mix together in a large tupperware:
Add all the chicken pieces, seal it, and put it in the fridge for 12-24 hours. Flip the chicken halfway through.
Create the egg/sauce mix
In another medium tupperware, mix together:
Create the dredge
In my cook, I just put 2 cups self rising flour in a tupperware.
Create the house seasoning
Mix it together and put it into an old spice container or pizza shaker: 1 cup kosher salt ¼ cup black pepper ¼ cup garlic powder ¼ cup smoked paprika
The cook
Do not cook the chicken cold. You want to time it so the chicken is near room temperature when you’re adding it to the oil. I waited about 45 minutes.
Add the oil to the pan. I filled mine just before ⅔ full. Bring the heat to 350, carefully monitoring using a thermometer. I had my burner at about 5.5/10.
Remove the chicken from the fridge and dump the brine down the drain. Remove all of the fresh herbs from the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels.
Season the chicken liberally on all sides with the house seasoning.
Using tongs, take the chicken and dunk it into the egg/hot sauce mixture. Let it drip dry, then transfer it over to the tupperware containing the self rising flour. I did 3-4 pieces at a time. Close the container and shake. Remove the chicken from the flour and shake it to remove excess flour.
Once you’re done you’ll have a big pile of chicken. Let it side for 5 minutes to allow the flour to set. Remember, you want to avoid putting cold chicken into the hot oil.
Once your oil is at 350, add the chicken. If you’re doing just one chicken, you can position it so everything ends up finishing around the same time. Put the thigh meat in the middle and everything else around it, with the white meat towards the edge of the pan. Skin side down.
Cook it for 10-12 minutes, then flip it. Using your meat thermometer, track the inside temperature of the chicken breast. Remove it once it reaches 165 and put it on the cookie sheet / rack (do not use paper towels!).
Serve it hot. If you’re doing a bunch all at once, you can put it in the oven at 200 for a little while until it’s ready to serve.
Our local butcher does a 'Meat For A Week' pack for £15 (scroll down the linked page to see it). I get one of these every week.
Added to this are my regular staples (it should be noted - many other things are purchased for my non-keto partner):
At least one whole iceberg lettuce per day (for volume!)
Mackerel in brine
Anchovies in Olive Oil
Very light olive oil for cooking and mayo-making
Eggs
Coconut milk and creamed coconut, to make yoghurt and fat bombs with.
Gelatin, and Collagen from Great Lakes
Coffee
Stevia tabs
Whatever spices I fancy - usually Smoked Paprika and Cumin
EDIT: Almost forgot - this has become my new best friend! - Nutritional Yeast Seasoning
Not a massive list of inspiring food, I know! I do like to keep a simple routine - though I am experimenting with different stuff, this week I'm trying out home made jelly babies!
The peanut flour is soooo great. I found it on Amazon, but I think it's also at vitacost (for cheaper, probably). The binder is the most interesting part actually, it's the Vitafiber syrup. It has a light sweetness and the consistency of honey. You can get it on amazon too
https://www.amazon.com/VitaFiber-IMO-Syrup-2-64-28-4/dp/B00TIX50OQ
It saves you calories because it takes the place of oil and some of the sugar. I love this stuff.

If you haven’t tried this already, I strongly suggest making cannacaps! They’re super quick and easy to make once you already have your infusion. First, warm it up a tiny bit (just enough to melt it), then take a small syringe and fill up some empty pill capsules. Seal those babies up and prepare for liftoff :)
If you’re vegan/vegetarian, they make vegetable-based capsules. Also, if size 00 capsules are too large for you to comfortably swallow, or if you want larger capsules so you don’t have to take as many, you can buy size 0 or 000 capsules (0 being the smallest) instead.
They’re super convenient! For each batch you make, start by taking one to determine how strong they are. I pulse my ABV through a coffee grinder before infusing it and skip the straining step to maximize efficacy, since taste isn’t an issue.
SO EASY:
Curry paste
Coconut Cream
Instructions
All you have to do is put a little oil in a saucepan and turn the heat to medium. Put 1-2 tablespoon of the curry paste in the oil and let it simmer for a bit, making sure that you play around with it and ensure that it's getting heated thoroughly. After 5 or so minutes of this (the curry paste begins to get ever so slightly golden brown), lower the heat to a simmer and dump the jar of coconut cream into the saucepan. As the cream melts, stir the mixture well. Let simmer for 5 - 10 more minutes.
Done
You now have curry that tastes exactly like it does in a restaurant (most restaurants actually use curry pastes.)
Combine with your protein of choice, some veggies, pour over rice, whatever you want.
This is exactly what I was going to recommend. You can also pick up sodium citrate on Amazon. Works wonderfully. For years I've been on a quest for what I would consider the best melting/falvorful macaroni and cheese. Only after I found this tip, did I achieve that goal.
For me, the perfect cheese is the whole foods unaged cheddar. Several cups of this with some whole milk and sodium citrate makes perfect mac and cheese. Change ratios a bit and you'll have a slicable block of cheese that melts wonderfully.
Sodium Citrate
tried to find a link for the cheese but couldn't find it.
btw, if you can't find sodium citrate you can make it with baking soda and citric acid.

I would love to try Japanese candies as I have heard many people say they are delicious! Something small that would definitely make my day :)
The dog ate my homework!
These Kinder hippos are amazing and they are under $5 with free shipping. So yummy. I have them on my snack attack list too.

If you don't want to use soy protein powder (Winco sells it pretty cheap), then I suggest some textured vegetable protein. If you have ever had chicken cup of noodles or other types of instant ramen, it's the "meat" in those. Textured vegetable protein is a left over product from soy products manufacturing, so it is pure soy protein. By itself, it is tasteless but the beauty is that it takes on the flavor of ANY liquid you put it in (to rehydrate it). I've mixed it into burgers and meatloaf before and you would never know it is there. Again, Winco near me sells it pretty cheaply but you can get it online too. I keep a bag on hand and usually just throw a small scoop into what ever I am making. It will bulk up a bit as it absorbs any moisture, so I suggest starting out with a small amount until you get used to it.
Not OP, but I used to drink generic, regular coffee with 2 creams, 2 sugars. After trying "better" coffee and playing around with the Keurig at work, you begin to appreciate the actual blends and boldness of coffees, whereas adding creamer and sugar actually ruined the taste(s) for me. Aka different blends, stronger roasts, etc etc.
Right now, my favorite coffee is San Francisco Bay Fog Chaser and it's delicious!
Umm, this Dragon Ball Z Funko is amazing, I didn't know they made my husband into an action figure!
Dragonite is also very adorable <3 He was always a fav of mine!
Also, Death Wish Coffee sounds very interesting and mysterious. Hmm.
Whats the raffle phrase? :D
Thank you! Another option: If you go to www.camelcamelcamel.com, you can set up an Amazon alert to email you know when this one...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GZS9Q6
Goes on sale (though right now it's $2.50/can on Prime, which is good). Last October, they messed something up and it went to $2.79 for 12 cans by mistake. Got 2 cases for around $6 shipped.
I love camelcamelcamel. :)
Edit: Sorry OP - didn't mean to hijack! :) Can't wait to try those hemp hearts too!
If anyone is curious you can buy a similar type of candy at Amazon. Popin' Cookin' has many adorable types. I've placed an order for the Sushi kit myself. They also have pizza, ramen and a few other types.
Googling this, I think that the type in the video is the non-edible play food, still super neat though. Hope that helps.
Edit: I rewatched the video and looked at the box again. This is also candy. My bad.
Japanese curry is INCREDIBLY easy to make. You really can’t mess it up. You can buy brands like Golden Curry at most major retailers. Just a fair warning the spice levels are very mild across the board on most Japanese curry so if you like spicy food be prepared to add your own spices. All you are doing though is chopping some veggies and meat if you like and throwing it in a pot, done and done. Delicious meal that you can pack into the fridge and have for a couple nights :)
Kinder Hippos! Glorious, delicious, German hippos. I found them once at the store then never again. :'(
edit: thank goodness for amazon! :D
Happy Birthday Diaju! (❁´◡`❁)✲゚
It's free shipping but not prime, does that count! Because this candy sushi set pretty much could define awesome.
May be easiest to look up the Surge Movement on Facebook, but basically they have persuaded Coca-Cola to make Surge again and currently it is in a "testing" phase where it is being sold on Amazon here. Don't worry, it IS NOT $80-100, there are just some assholes buying cases and reselling it for much more. It is simply out of stock right now, and regularly sells for $14 for a 12 pack of 16oz cans (from Coke themselves). We are happy (the Surge Movement) because it has been in stock twice and it sold out within 2 hours both times because we all love Surge so much. Hopefully Coke brings it back for good!!
TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) = 80kCal with 12g of protein. Significantly more protein per calorie than chicken, it's cheaper, and it's shelf stable.
Once I hydrate it, (usually in veggie broth, because I don't eat meat, but you could use beef broth) I use it just like cooked ground beef. It makes fantastic tacos, BBQ sandwiches, salad topper, etc.
ETA: This is the kind I buy: https://www.amazon.com/Bobs-Red-Mill-TEXTURIZED-PROTEIN/dp/B002YR97J2/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1474559484&sr=8-1&keywords=tvp+bob%27s+red+mill (I wouldn't bother looking for it in the store unless you live in a large city and have a lot of free time.)
I made keto Louisiana "red beans" and "rice" with sausage! Sorry for the low picture quality. The recipe is a bit involved, but I like my keto meals with some complexity.
-1/2 onion, diced
-1/2 red or green bell pepper, diced
-1 jalapeño pepper, cored, seeded, & minced (optional)
-2 cloves garlic, minced
-1lb cooked smoked sausage links, sliced (I found a brand that has 1 carb per link. You could also use shrimp and/or chicken)
-1 cup chicken broth (or water + bouillon)
-15oz can black soy beans, drained and rinsed (I used these https://www.amazon.com/Eden-Organic-Black-Beans-15-Ounce/dp/B000GZS9Q6 )
-1 bay leaf
-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
-1/2 tsp dried thyme
-1/4 tsp dried sage
-2 tsp dried parsley
-1 tsp Cajun or Creole seasoning (like Tony C's)
-Salt & pepper to taste
-24oz riced cauliflower (I used 2x 12oz bags of the frozen Trader Joe's brand)
-Avocado oil, butter, or lard for sautéing
-Xanthan gum (optional)
Yield: 4 servings @ 8g net carbs each (would only be 6g net carbs if you use a zero-carb meat/protein. You could cut another 1-2 carbs per serving if you leave out the onions & peppers, but it would definitely change the overall taste.)
Rice is very starchy, and since its grown not made, you can't make it out of something else to make it low carb so out of luck there.
As for noodles there have been some lower carb noodles, made with not sure what but probably at least partly soy. The ones I'd tried were horrible. They simultaneously tasted on the inside like pasta that hadn't cooked long enough and on the outside like pasta that had cooked too long and they were sticky. There was dreamfields pasta that tasted just like regular pasta and had the full carbs of regular pasta but don't count these carbs for some reason that is never explained very well and I believe was proven not to actually cut the effective carbs. Recently I've heard of but not tried miracle noodles. They come in rice too, but if they're made out of something else than its not rice anymore than cauliflower is so I suppose its probably like pasta made into rice shape. They're kindof expensive and I'm a bit wary of things like this that claim to be zero calories.
Solid recipe! I'd recommend messing around with some higher temperatures, I like to do my baguettes at around 500-550. Also, buying a pound of yeast like this is generally less than $5 at a store, and will last you years if stored properly. Happy baking :)
Always good. If you like this type of meal, I recommend trying Japanese’s curry. It’s fucking delicious and you can make it at home easy. S&B Golden Curry Sauce Mix, Hot, 8.4-Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011UGYLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2MG7BbWNPWSRK
I could use these, but I have a whole "Fitness,Fertility,Health" Wishlist. We've been trying for baby number 2 for over 3 years and i'm really trying to get into better shape and make better choices for our family.
Nutritional Yeast
Organic Sugar
Thanks for hosting! <3
It's not going to be the actual recipe, but I'd try to use the modernist mac and cheese recipe as a starting place, because it's so simple and easy.
Basically, sodium citrate is an amazing emulsifier of cheese. Commercial American cheeses typically use sodium phosphate, which is essentially equivalent. You can basically just combine water/milk/beer, sodium citrate, and cheese, and end up with high quality homemade velveeta in 5-10 minutes. You can easily scale up the recipe; it's 100 parts cheese, 93 parts liquid, and 4 parts sodium citrate.
12 oz Allagash White
13 oz Cheddar
.5 oz Sodium Citrate
allspice + cayenne to taste
Shred cheddar.
Put beer in saucepan on medium heat.
Add sodium citrate.
Add cheese, stirring until it dissolves into the sauce.
Season with salt, allspice and cayenne to taste.
> 0.8 grams of protein per pound of lean bodyweight should suffice
I agree, I've seen this number in plenty of places. Just wondering why multiple servings of protein powder instead of whole foods, I guess? I tend to limit my intake to one serving a day, but at the end of the day that's personal preference. Again, nuts, eggs, tofu, meat replacements are other good sources.
>Problem with beans, black soybeans or otherwise, is that they're way too high in carbs - otherwise, I would love to.
Black soy beans only have 1 gram net carb. They're great for veggie keto. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GZS9Q6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_HcmZxb4MVJ9T3
>Also, could you expand on why evening is a "weird place" for it?
Re: bulletproof coffee. I've been doing IF as well, I definitely get not drinking it in the morning. Usually people use bullet proof coffee as a tool to stave off hunger for a long time. It seems like a weird place to use those calories, since you'll likely be eating a large meal soon after. Why not include real food for those calories? I think that's why it feels strange. Maybe a fat bomb after dinner? Or some extra cheese with all that veg?
If you still want to do a bulletproof coffee, maybe after lunch to get you to dinner?
>I've never heard that yogurt is something to worry about and now I've heard it twice.
It IS only 7 grams of carbs, but straight from sugar. That is pretty indulgent, considering it's nearly half your carbs for the day. Also having something with that much sugar can cause more sugar cravings and more hunger, which is worse (in my experience) earlier in the day. Maybe try cottage cheese instead?
Quite a few of the Bob's Red Mill products are cheaper on Amazon than in stores. I get the TVP a couple times a year.
I'm not a vegetarian or anything, as a working parent TVP makes dinner faster/easier! Add a little water and seasoning and you won't be able to tell it apart from ground hamburger. I can make spaghetti with "meat" sauce, chili, tacos, sloppy joes, or hamburger helper in 10 minutes. AMAZING, I love that stuff!
Look into TVP - Texturized Vegetable Protein. It's pre-dried soy and available in the bulk sections of some health food stores. Bulks up very nice in water, cheap too. This is just one option, some will be unbranded.
It's generally pretty bland, so do try it out at home to learn how to season it. Works best in highly seasoned things like spaghetti sauce, chili, etc.
Get your K-Cups from Amazon, you can get them pretty cheap and in bulk. Personally I like San Francisco Bay Coffee's Fog Chaser blend. Nice bold cup, plus it's fair trade and the k-cup is biodegradable.
The sauces are pretty easy to find, any Asian grocery will have them or any grocery store with a decent Asian section.
Alternatively:
Hoisin sauce
Sweet chili sauce
Sriracha sauce
Thai peanut sauce For some reason Amazon only has this in a 12 pack. I'm actually OK with that. ;^)
Yea they did. I got a mesh k cup with my keurig as a gift and it won't brew. That was actually the reason I wanted one. Now it barely gets used. I did find some degradeable cups http://www.amazon.com/San-Francisco-Bay-OneCup-Coffees/dp/B007Y59HVM They send you a thin plastic container with the order to store the cups in. They come in biodegradable bags as well. Plus the coffee is pretty good 8)
> Are you advocating for this to be a purely middle class sub?
No. I was thinking more along the lines of frugality is a means for personal joy and financial freedom. And r/frugal has become a bragging post on how not to spend money at all. Not cheapness, not frugality, but bragging. A display of anti-largess.
I'm feeling r/frugal should be a way for people to help each other see into life habits and change them. How showing me what was pulled out of a dumpster doesn't make me want to jump into a dumpster
And if someone thinks Kcups are too expensive at .70 each, I like the idea that this subreddit will help them find this option at .31 : http://www.amazon.com/San-Francisco-Bay-Coffee-80-Count/dp/B007Y59HVM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376358171&sr=8-1&keywords=san+francisco+bay+k+cups
Have you tried looking for some keto recipes to fulfill some of those cravings? This, for example, is my favorite single-serving bread-like item. I've put it in the bottom of a medium rectangle Tupperware to make pizza crust, sliced it and eaten it with butter, made garlic cheese bread to go with "spaghetti" (out zucchini spirals or miracle noodles, cut it in half and made a bacon egg and cheese muffin. I just make it in different size and shape tupperwares, take out the cinnamon, and add appropriate spices to match the application I am using it for.
Also, very high cocoa chocolate is an ok occasional treat. I'll get one of those big bars of 85% chocolate and just eat two squares with a cup of decaf in the evening.
I can eat so many awesome things that I always thought were off limits- butter, bacon, steak- and I can find things to mimic many of my old favorites while keeping keto. It's important not to focus on deprivation. No one can maintain a situation where they constantly feel deprived. Find new things you do love and can have, experiment with new recipes, make it fun.
I see those little kits all over and I've always wanted to try some! they're so stinking cute!
I think my favorite candy might be twixx but I'd be hesitant about trying to make it at home because I don't think it would taste the same.
I added this and this to my under five dollar list on amazon, they both have free shipping, they're so stinking CUTE!
Edit: just found this one too oh my goodness! x.x ~<3
They are using instant active yeast, it is used by professional bakers and in my opinion is superior to active dry.
There are a lot of manufacturers and types but in general the two most popular types are your standard red label gold label.
Red label is just standard yeast, but gold label is osmotolerant which is meant to be used in dough with high levels of sugar like brioche.

I LOVE my capsule machine. I got mine for around $18.00 on Amazon and it included the 00 empty capsules (I spied them at a local smoke shop for 15.00) and works like a charm! TnW makes me throw up so I'm relegated to capsules ;)
I've bought lots of different brands of capsules and have found that the NOW 750 count 00 Capsules work best, but if you're looking at a better price you could try these ones sold in bulk sets of 1000 . They smell a little funny to me, and don't always go together properly. But that's probably my own user error.
I use dijon mustard just because that is what is in my fridge, you can use whatever mustard you have/prefer. Nutritional yeast is... well... I'm not sure I can describe it well. It's a seasoning kinda that gives food a cheese/nutty flavor and has some good vitamins. It is found in a lot of vegan recipes. Yes, you can find it at the store but I'm an online shopping junkie so I get mine from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002863BIW/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1449183615&sr=1&keywords=nutritional+yeast
I hope you like it!
I love num nums more than I should. :))
I would love to try these bars.
Thanks for having a contest!
Get a mortar & pestle and gel caps. Grind super fine, and pack them super tight by tamping it down. I use 00 caps and 1 or 2 is enough to stay good for a few hours.
EDIT: You can use smaller caps, like '0' for a smaller dose. What I use, for the lazy:

My goal right now, to get promoted at work, be a better manager than the one I would be replacing, and find some one better than myself to take over my department. Right now, as far as that goal goes, I've had the interview for the job, and I find out next week if I got it or not. Finding someone to replace me, it's hard, not cause I'm irreplaceable or anything(even though I like to think of myself as such), but there are not many people wanting to work these days. Or of they do, it's to support their drug habit and they can't pass a drug test. Ugh, it's frustrating.
My number is 123
And I've wanted to try [these](

Thanks so much for the contest! I'm sending you a virtual smile=) also, you're amazing!
If interested also check out black soy beans (link)
I use them in my chili all the time and work out very well.
You could also try cutting out the diced tomatos and add in a jar of salsa. That's another thing I do for my chili with great success.
I have no clue what you've tried, and I'm no coffee connoisseur so I can only think of a few. Everyone around here seems to love Death Wish coffee, and a good chocolate coffee I like is Gevalia's Chocolate Mocha. :)
IndoMie Ramen
This is an Indonesian Ramen brand and I’ve loved every flavor I’ve tried so far. They’re way better than the usual Nissin ramen. The Mi Goreng line is actually supposed to be prepared similar to chow mein, like cooking and frying the noodles in spices provided but I’ve found luck making it normally as well.

This isn't a slow cooker recipe, but if you have sodium citrate or have time to purchase it (I get mine on Amazon), I think the Modernist Cuisine Cheese sauce is the best. The cheese is super smooth and silky. Make sure to pick a high quality block of cheese and have a kitchen scale.
So...Percoloco won. I'm giving it to you because you inspired it!
Please add the 1-lb package of Deathwish Coffee to your wishlist!

These come with separate sauce / oil / seasoning packages and are fucking delicious and about 50cents (or less in bulk) in asian grocery stores around north america. I eat them pretty much every day with an egg some tofu and green onion for breakfast and/or dinner.
There's a purple version that is rare to find that is super spicy and is my favourite...
Oh wow that's a tough one, I love meegoreng , potato noodle , Samyang Curry , chagang and maybe neoguri hopefully I didn't mess up any of those links.
Kinder Happy Hippos are my favorite chocolate bar. Don't let them fool you into saving them with their cuteness--they taste delicious.
I use this brand, which I got at Amazon, but if you search for sodium citrate at Amazon there's lots of other brands. I bought it about a year ago and still have some left.
Here's Modernist Cuisine's melty queso dip, using sodium citrate, and here's their macaroni and cheese. I've made the mac and cheese before using cauliflower as a substitute for noodles, it's pretty good!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002863BIW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
I use them all the time! They are 1 net carb per every tablespoon. For a single serve dish 1 tablespoon is pretty much perfect.
They are reminiscent of cheese. I will usually add them into cauliflower rice, shirataki noodles, sprinkle on roasted broccoli, etc.
I highly recommend trying them, the first 1-2 times you taste them you might notice a slight metallic kind of iron-y taste, but I swear I love this stuff. The vitamins and low carb count are worth it.
You can buy them on Amazon for about 4 bucks. Shipping is free but most are sent from Japan so expect it to take at least 2-3 weeks. I recommend it though! They're fun!
Edit: English instructions
Depends on what you want.
Soup based #2 for me: MARUTAI Hakata Nagahama Tonkotsu anything from MARUTAI is AMAZING
Instant Indomie #1 for me: Mi GorenG almost anything from indomie is really good.
Spice and pure sadistic heat: Samyang Extra Spicy
I hope this helps. :)
EDIT
Read your post again, i missed the mark. To import food in general from japan i use this site
If, like me, you're not picky about your coffee, but you like the convenience of a Keurig, you can get 80 K-Cups for $26. The coffee actually has great reviews, too.
One of my favorite cooking items is TVP and TVP chunks. They don't taste like anything on their own, they take on the flavor of what they're cooked in. The granules are really good substitute for ground beef in taco filling, gravy, hamburger helper type recipes, anything. The chunks make a really good chicken substitute. Reconstitute some and add it to a crock pot of ranch dressing, buffalo wing sauce, and cream cheese and eat with Fritos. Holy shit it's good.
Also, of course, there's all kinds of beans, nuts, dairy if she eats that, eggs if she eats that, those sorts of things.
Iron is sometimes difficult for vegetarians too, one quick fix for that is to cook in cast iron, which increases iron content by a crazy amount.
Since I went vegetarian, my cholesterol dropped from 213 to 163 without any other changes in my diet or lifestyle. I don't get sick any more, I'm not deficient in any nutrient, I feel fantastic.
Also head over to /r/vegetarian, lots of good recipes there.
I do thin sliced avocado on top of the mayo. I always debate putting lettuce on a sandwich because of the barrier effect. Sometimes the mayo to tomato to avocado to cheese rainbow is pretty delicious.
How do you feel about multiple meats?
Also [this](http://www.amazon.com/Tajin-Fruit-Snack-Seasoning-5-7/dp/B0000GL6RK0] between mayo and tomato is delicious.

Chewy caramel, stretched like a pretzel over a long bar, covered in chocolate. Curly Whurly It's chewy, it's fun, it has holes in between to aerate your mouth. It's delicious.
Pour Some Sugar on MEH, and don't do the third thing.
Thanks for contest.
Poor undergrad student here. To be kind to my wallet I buy a lot of beans rice and potatoes. Black beans are really good for protein. If I need extra protein I take vital wheat gluten and make seitan. There are tons of different ways to prepare this for different tastes and textures (one of my favorite recipes) and It will last a long time for what you spend on it. Also some nutritional yeast will get you that B12 without having to take any supplements as well as give you a ton of other vitamins and nutrients and it too will last a long time for what you are spending. Other than that try to buy fruits and veggies without breaking your budget and try to keep it varied. Good luck!
These and these are really nomtastic !
This is my kitchen-y wishlist and this is my <~$5 snack wishlist.
I'm fine with whatever, but I'd prefer this lunchbox and/or this lunchbox to make lunch more fun ;) (they're under the kitchen-y wishlist)
If you want a formal recipe you can check out these guys.
Otherwise I'd recommend buying some thai curry paste, or Japanese curry blocks. You basically just add milk + tomato (or broth or water) and boom, you've got a sauce to simmer your veg in. This japanse stuff is at my grocer, and the thai stuff I get from amazon.
Also, you can save money if you use dried beans rather than the canned ones. You just gotta remember to throw them into water in the morning. Same thing with split peas, they cook super fast if you soak them in the morning.
haha I'm flattered. You can pick up size 0 or 00 capsules from your local vitamin shop. Or online with ebay or Amazon. Searching "empty gel capsules" should get you what you want. Filling them is as easy as filling the capsules with your fert. People have been using Osmocote Flower & vegetable, since Osmocote plus was dis-continued. Others use Dynomite fert. YOu can even mix both and use them!
I bought some protein plus peanut butter powder over the weekend to add to my regular chocolate keto chow.

I had been buying regular chocolate and adding PB2 because I like extra peanut flavor. However, when I saw Chris used peanut flour I decided to try that instead since it has less carbs and more nutritional benefits.
Whelp, it's pretty much perfect. If you're missing Chocolate PB I'd highly suggest investing in peanut flour.

Honestly use sodium citrate. It is a super powerful emulsifier and you can make a sauce that is literally just cheese, water, and sodium citrate. That's probably going to be the closest you'll get unless you want to just melt velveeta.

Ooh, so the bowl kind actually comes with the toppings on the label? I've been buying the packets, which have soup base and some kimchi (I think?) flakes.
My current fave is this mi goreng There's like 5 separate sauce packets, and I love opening and combining all of them
I use a coffee called Death Wish. Cold brewed is just smoother, but honestly i like that i can make a bunch of it over night. well afternoon + over night.
Kinder Happy Hippos. Not only are they tasty, they're also adorable :)
Just a tip, I recently discovered the wonders of sodium citrate, an emulsifying salt. It lets you melt cheese in a saucepan without the cheese separating; it becomes a very smooth sauce that you can then pour over nachos. The best part about it is that it's very easy to make and lets you use whatever kind of cheese you like without resorting to velveeta or cornstarch and evaporated milk, or anything artificial. A big bag of it is $11 on amazon and it lasts forever
This ish right here.
Important though:
I'm in love with these things oh my god.

If you need a cheesy flavor on things like spaghetti, tacos, etc, give nutritional yeast a try. It's a decent enough substitute. And if you're a food crafty-type person, you can actually make your own fake cheeses. It takes some effort, but from what I've heard it's a worthwhile effort. Here are some recipes to get ya started: pesto cashet ricotta pizza | how to make vegan cheese | the best tofu ricotta
Have you considered using tvp instead of tofu? Even full carnivores usually like tvp, as it has a similar texture to meat and it soaks up the flavor of whatever you cook it in.
Edit: this is tvp, textured vegetable protein.
Bob's Red Mill TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein), 10-Ounce Bags (Pack of 4) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YR97J2/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_9G8Uub185X17F
You can probably find it in a decent grocery store. You would basically take whatever taco seasonings you're using, add water, and then add the tvp and simmer until it's fully hydrated. The tvp will soak up the water and the flavor of the seasonings. Then use it exactly as you would beef in the recipe.
It's super good, I've used it in vegetarian chili and not told people it was full veg. They never noticed!
Genius. Next time you don't have the time or patience to assemble, find some of these bastards.
I found some at a local little Russian grocery here in my town but I'm sure they're available in places like Cost Plus and the like.
Death Wish is a local coffee I tried once, and never stopped. I pretty much only drink this now. It's soooo good. It's super strong and dark. Mine is cooling off right now then I'm about to drink the entire pot.
I drank it straight black and super strong before keto, but now I add MCT oil and soluble collagen powder and it doesn't really change it.
Black soy beans can be used in place of black beans anywhere you like. They are the only keto-friendly bean that I know of. (An equivalent amount of black beans would have 24g net carbs.) Put them in some keto-friendly chili with beefy crumble to up the protein, eat them with tofu/eggs in a scramble, make a Mexican-inspired bean dip out of them and eat with veggies or cheese chips... Tons of options for them! :)
I always got this brand, and I found it at health food stores as well as big chain grocery stores that have a decent natural foods selection.
145 for 2 hours, generally lazy and just throw some chupicabra seasoning in the bag.
If we're eating it right there, then simple pan fry. Otherwise we use them for salad and so I don't even bother with the frying as it'll just be chopped up.
Also, I started toying around with throwing in mae ploy curry paste in the bag, with no other ingredients. Tried it once so far, and is super easy mock-thai curry. Not quite there yet, still working on experiments but it's been great.
Just don't add a lot of juice/sauce to it when it cooks. Sauces added in SV just leach flavor out of the meat, it doesn't imbibe them into it. You make meat flavor sauce, not sauce flavored meat.
om nom nom
Thanks for the contest! Hope you had a good sleep!
First off, the type of Ramen you get makes a difference. If all I have access to is a standard grocery store, I'll go for the chili, oriental or roast chicken flavor. But most of the time I get my ramen at the asian market where they have way more brands/flavors to chose from than Maruchan. My fav is Indomie Mi Goreng Instant Noodle which has 2 sets of flavor packets in it: one that's the seasoning powder and fried onions, the second is a 3 pack of seasoning oil, sweet soy sauce, and chili sauce.
Second, I typically keep little homemade frozen packages of chopped veggies on hand for throwing into omelets or ramen, so I'll usually add that and a soft boiled egg. Ramen is mostly a soft boiled egg delivery device for me.
I'm with you there. But, you can make your own refried beans out of these beans and they taste great! Then you can make these tortillas and you could have an amazing bean burrito that's around 4 or 5 carbs. And that's if you load it up with beans.

Worlds strongest coffee.
My fiance is a math and physics major and his uncle got him a set of mugs that say "I love math, it makes people cry." He said he got them online and they had a bunch for different majors.

Sure! I usually just throw this together with whatever veg I have on hand, so measurements may not be precise. But it always turns out great.
-2-3T coconut or olive oil
-4 large or 6 small bone-in chicken thighs, skins reserved
-1 large onion, cut into petals
-1 red bell pepper, large dice
-1 garlic clove, minced
-3 red potatoes, large dice (sometimes I use squash instead, if I have it around)
-1 large head of broccoli, cut into bite-size florets
-2-3T Mae Ploy curry paste I usually use the red, which is medium heat. Yellow is milder, green is spicier.
-1 Kaffir lime leaf, if you have access to them. If not, nbd.
-1 can coconut milk
-1 c chicken stock
Garnishes:
-Minced basil
-Toasted coconut (it’s a good idea to make extra for next time)
-lime wedges
-fried chicken skin, minced
Method:
-Heat up a large, deep skillet to medium heat, add oil.
-Heat a second smaller pan for skins. Lay them in flat, turn to medium heat, and keep a close eye on them while you’re putting the curry together, turning often. Your goal is a very crisp skin. This usually takes 10-15 minutes. Once they’re done, pull them out and set on a plate lined with a paper towel.
-Brown chicken thighs on both sides, in large skillet. Once browned, pull them out and set aside.
-Add onions and pepper, along with a teaspoon or so of Kosher salt. Scrape bottom of pan while cooking. Once onions are translucent, add garlic, cook for 30 seconds or so.
-Add chicken stock and stir, then add coconut milk. Add in curry paste, breaking it up to incorporate well. Add potatoes and/or squash and lime leaf, if using.
-Return chicken thighs to pan. There should be enough liquid to just cover the thighs. If not, add more stock, or even water is fine.
-Boil, then turn to simmer and cover. Set a timer for 20 minutes, check for seasoning and curry strength about halfway in.
While that’s cooking
Prep your garnishes, and make yourself some rice.
-mince basil
-toast coconut
-cut limes
-mince chicken skins
When your timer goes off, pull off the lid of the curry, add no more than 1T of your cornstarch slurry and stir. Take it easy with the slurry. Too much and you’ll have a disgusting, gloppy mess. The consistency you’re looking for is nappe, or just thick enough to cover the back of a spoon.
-Add in the broccoli, cover and cook for 3 more minutes. Take off the lid, and give it a stir.
Put that shit over rice.
-Garnish with a heavy hand.
-Enjoy!
You make fun of it, but I have Death Wish coffee in my pantry, which has pretty much identical labeling.
PSA: I'm not shilling for this coffee. It's not very good.
Death Wish coffee and a French press.
A fun t-shirt
DVD/Blu-rays like Dr. Who or Game of Thrones.
I personally like Death Wish Coffee since it gives me a kick in the ass when I'm still feeling groggy after waking up. But it has a very high caffeine content (it claims to be the strongest coffee in the world) so it's not suitable if you have a higher caffeine sensitivity, i.e. it makes you jittery.
I also haven't tried making Death Wish Coffee in a cold brew method, and I imagine that the concentrate made from it would be very potent in terms of caffeine. Beware!
These have been known to make the spoon stand straight up in the cup...

Just a fyi, they sell these at my local supermarket and at walmart near me and is a good substitute to black beans and taste great imo.
https://www.amazon.com/Eden-Organic-Black-Beans-15-Ounce/dp/B000GZS9Q6
In saucy or stew-y dishes, I like to use textured vegetable protein. To prepare, I put it in a microwave-safe bowl, pour in about a 1:1 ratio of stock (with a little more stock than TVP), cover with plastic wrap and microwave. I think the microwave time is on the package. Could easily be done with water or vegetable stock for lent.
I then use it like I would ground beef or pork. The texture is wonderful, but also distinguishable from real meat. I wouldn't put it in an enchilada by itself though; try mixing it with some sauteed veggies like zucchini, onions, mushroom etc. and then stuff the tortilla.
I use it a lot in chili and vegitarian spring rolls.
Amazon has Bob's pretty cheap as well, though I think I want to try the site the OP linked too now.
Thanks for the cooking tips, OP!
If you can get your hands on Japanese curry cubes (Amazon sells it too but at a high markup https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Curry-Sauce-Mix-8-4-Ounce/dp/B0011UGYLM ,) this particular type of curry goes really nicely with apples!
Saute onions with butter in a pot, add potato and carrot chunks (optional) along with cubed apples, then add water and let it simmer for half an hour before adding the curry. Let it cool for another 10 minutes, then eat with rice and broccoli!
Consider the SF Bay Fog Chaser. It's the best kcup I found where the taste isn't so compromising, and is (supposedly) environmentally friendly!
Just a note, check out Black Soy Beans. They're the only beans I've found that work with keto and they're delicious! For a 1/2 cup serving, they have 8g carbs with 7g fiber for a total of 1g net carbs!
Also, be sure to check out /r/vegetarianketo for recipe ideas as well (making substitutions as needed).

Lots of good answers so far but check this out: Sodium Citrate is now known to be an excellent emulsifying aid for cheese based sauces. Here's a similar recipe. Stirring in about a teaspoon or so before you add the fromage should go a long way towards keeping your sauce properly emulsified.

Vegan queso that looks so good, even my non-vegan self would eat it!
I can't imagine life without cheese. Do you use nutritional yeast? It is the best vegan cheese substitute, in my opinion. I use it on my popcorn and tofu. Cheese me please!
I got the sweet and salty kettle corn Boom Chicka Pop! Really tasty popcorn. Nooch is slang for nutritional yeast - it's basically vegan cheese powder that is loaded with B12. You can find it at most stores. This is what it looks like.
I got the Target Organic brand pizza crust. [This] (https://www.fooducate.com/app#!page=product&id=563D4468-9F7B-E1AC-42DE-933017866F99) is what it looks like.
num nums I would love to try this Curly Wurly! Thank you for the contest!!
I recently bought this Capsule Machine and 1000 capsules off of Amazon...and it does make it easier.
I weighed the capsules the other day and I was getting about 7g in 10 of them.
I usually take about 3-4 capsules and that is about 2-3ish grams. It comes with a little tool that packs it, and I usually do it about three times and ta-da!
It also makes 24 at a time which is awesome.
I'm in Canada so I always check amazon.ca and amazon.com. In this case the Canadian one is usually better for me to order from and it's always been in stock at the amazon warehouse.
The Canadian listing
Murica!
Edit --> I always get 2 orders so the shipping is free.
I just did a quick search and they actually have it on amazon. Here. It has free shipping if you have amazon prime. lol
I love food!

Either Netrition or Amazon (whichever is cheapest)
https://www.netrition.com/protein_plus_peanut_flour.html
https://www.amazon.com/Protein-Plus-Roasted-Natural-Peanut/dp/B0052OOYOW
Love this product! It's 110 calories & 16g protein for 1/4 cup. You have to add your own salt and sweetener like I did. Sometimes I mix in low calorie pancake syrup with warm water to get a peanut butter type consistency. Try it with graham crackers as a dip.
I buy mine online from Amazon. I get like 1000 for $13.00 I also bought a capsule maker that is very helpful. I couldn't stand the taste of the tea. If you ever run out and need some fast you can go to a vitamin store they sell them. I get size 00 they are larger and hold more.
Flakes are my favorite - Braggs or Now are both great.
Have you checked out the shirataki noodles? They're pretty good. A little slimy with a texture similar to Ramen Noodles, but pretty awesome for how low in calories and carbs they are. And don't let the naysayers scare you away talking about the smell. A quick rinse and it's gone.
Textured Vegetable Protein, great for vegans and vegetarians and even if you're not it's a super cheap meat substitute that's great for chili and sloppy joes. One case lasts SO LONG.
FYI, you can buy delicious, cheap, completely biodegradable k cups on Amazon. There are also plenty of recyclable brands out there as well.

Today I'm studying, then off to work 9-5 (where I hopefully can get a lot done in between meetings), then home to make dinner, then more studying, then watching GoT, then sleep! :D
Who needs revision?!
I just had a really good kind! Raspberry with salted caramel filling. Sooo good.
I really want to try these!
I've been lurking on this sub for a while. I bet you guys would love Japanese curry. Japanese curry is dead easy, and delicious. Just boil some meat and veg (carrots, celery, potatoes, apples for me) and add a block of S&B curry roux. I'd go for the hot, which isn't hot at all. (BTW that price is steep) Bulk it out with rice. It's great.
I used the reusable K-cup thingie in my home Keurig, and it never worked right after that (we ended up replacing it shortly thereafter). I thought it was just bad timing, so I used it in our office one, and we had to buy a new office one then, too. I don't know why, but I had terrible luck with those.
I buy San Francisco Bay K-cups. I first saw them at Costco (which no longer sells them), loved them, and kept buying through Amazon. They are working towards 100% biodegradable packaging. Their K-cups don't have plastic on the bottom (just a plastic ring), and the bags that hold the K-cups I believe are compostable. My favorite flavors are Fog Chaser and French Roast: https://www.amazon.com/San-Francisco-Bay-Coffee-Compatible/dp/B007Y59HVM
If he just has to have some sort of beans, black soy beans are super low carb and a great replacement!

Brewer's yeast is different, do not recommend.
[This] (https://www.amazon.com/Bragg-Organic-Yeast-Seasoning-4-5-oz/dp/B002863BIW) is the good good. Bulk bins or some places have the shakers or a cardboard cylinder like the kind oatmeal comes in.
you might try a local bakery if you're looking for fresh yeast; I and many others use instant yeast, which lasts a very long time in the
fridgefreezer and works great; a pound (which is a lot) can be had on Amazon for about $8 (https://smile.amazon.com/Saf-Instant-Yeast-Pound-Pouch/dp/B0001CXUHW?sa-no-redirect=1)RAoA has made me happen when people here talk to me on the daily/nightly threads and the discussion threads and stuff and actually continue to conversation! It makes me feel like I actually have something to contribute!
Candy also makes me happy. Which is probably why I was eating the oreos I got early, and am trying to not eat the rest of the cake I made yesterday. ><
Because I'm Happy!
These are my favorite ramen noodles. Perhaps not the healthiest, but they're delicious

Snow and Climate
I came from a tropical country, passed by the Equator, day/night cycle is always stable, there's only 2 season : dry & rainy season. Average temperature around 27-30 Celsius.
Enter UK, 4 seasons, different day/night cycle each season, and Daylight Savings Time. First winter was rough, I had to wear a quad layer clothing in order to survive the near-zero temperature outside. Now it's spring and I'm sweating on 15 degree Celsius (that's already freezing in Indonesia).

> Favourite indonesian and british dish?
Indonesian dish? Top pick :
Put three of them in front of me and I'm a happy man. Total cost of that food should be around 4 Pounds for 1 servings here in UK, in Indonesia its MUCH cheaper, less than 1 Pounds for 4 servings.
As for one thats easily available worldwide, I think it's Indomie Goreng. IMO, that's the best Instant Noodle in my Country.
As for British Dish, I can't say much, haven't found any british-specific dish here. And if there's any, I doubt I can eat it since I only eat halal meat and can't consume any alcohols (you can call it inconvenient but I've lived with it since I was born, so no big deal xD)
link to the item (didn't show up in search results for some reason, but this link goes straight to the surge). it's still in stock as of now, but it's already sold clean out at least once since they added it to amazon

Thanks! It was delicious. I used Caputo "00" Chefs Flour (red bag) and Saf Instant Yeast
