Evecase 5.6 x 5.6 x 3.5 inch Camera Bag.
Chose this after trying too long to find a 3DS bag that didn't have horrible straps. $16 with Prime

Anker USB 3.0 4* USB tap.
Obviously, you need to have more than 1 USB port to do much, like using a mouse with a usb drive.
$9 with Prime.

Cable Matters Mini HDMI male to HDMI Female cable 2 pack.
Minor shaving required. Not tested extensively.
$10 with Prime.

Lexar USB 3.0 Micro SD Card Reader
If you want to use a ferry card or temporarily pop your card of choice into a computer, one of these is incredibly helpful. Plus it's tiny. You can probably get one cheaper if you don't want the 32GB card included.
$33 with Prime.

Standard XBOne Controller.
Works without any need to mess with dongles on Windows 10. It'll even work with headphones/sets.
$35-$50ish, depending on color and luck.

Venom Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Twin Pack.
I don't recommend these in particular, but a rechargeable pack is a must if you don't want to guzzle batteries.
$17 with Prime.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M185.
Pretty reliable, but only has the standard 2 mouse buttons plus tilting and clicking mousewheel. Receiver stores inside nicely.
$13 with Prime.

Kid Icarus Folding 3DS Stand That I Had In A Box.
Needs a little rubber bumper to help secure the Win properly.
$10 with Prime.

Perrix Asymetrical Folding Keyboard.
This one might be tough to find, but it works amazingly. The weird fold system pushes the main hinge off to the side, so it is less likely to fold the moment you put it on your lap. It also completely hides the hinge when the keyboard is unfolded. A bit cramped, but the keys are properly clicky laptop keys.
For image and model reference

Anker PowerCore 26800 Portable Charger*
While looking for my power pack, I found this one. Seems to be a flat upgrade. 26800mAh with 3
4.8A output USB ports. Also has 2 micro usb inputs for double the charge speed?
$59.99 with Prime.

Other possible pack-ins.

Bluetooth Numpads.
If you're primarily going to be gaming, you might want to drop the full keyboard in favor of a bit of space plus one of these. Works nicely with a mouse if you rebind with HIDMacros. Also more tiny airport/college desk friendly. Example unit is $30

Similarly, you might want to try a half controller + mouse option using a device like the
Nintendo Joy-Con's left unit. Drivers are still being worked on though, so only get this if you're up for beta troubles.
$50ish, but you can get lucky on eBay.

SanDisk Ultra Fit 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive.
The one in all the Win lists I've seen, but I figured I'd list it here for convenience.
$45 with Prime.

Batteries
All this stuff takes a total of 3 AAA (2 for the keyboard, 1 for the numpad) and 1 AA battery that will need replacing eventually. I hesitate to recommend rechargeable ones, as I have yet to find a micro charger for them.

Inateck USB 3.0 Ethernet + 3 USB 3.0 port adapter.
You might want to replace the 4 port one with one like this if you plan to do network maintenance, secure data transfer, or just plain download things quickly.

$20 with Prime.

PS4 Controller.
Some people prefer this to the XBOne one. It's lighter in the hand (and bag), comes with a built in rechargeable battery with absurd life, and has a touchpad with 4 physical buttons underneath. Can do some pretty crazy things with the touchpad via Steam's controller customization, but has weaker compatibility with non-Steam applications. Also works with PS4 Remote Play.
Worth noting that, unlike the ps3 controller, this can charge directly from any micro usb power supply. Headset support seems to require the official receiver dongle, sold separately.
Controller Alone: $40-60 Depending on color. Silver's cheapest.
Adapter Alone: $66
Controller + Adapter Bundle: $66

Budget 1 Handed Controller**
Hey, if you want to try 1/2 Controller + Mouse, why start off pricey?
$10

Phew, that's about all I have on hand.

The MK8 bundle comes with a V1 Switch + MK8, and thus basically saves you $60 versus getting a V2 + MK8. It's a value proposition. How much is better internal battery life worth to you? If you truly intend to keep it docked and/or in the car, I think you could easily work around the V1's limitations. Car power, battery banks, etc.. Easily fixed. However, if you get the V2, you keep the door open for some more options. Maybe you end up getting a Switch per kid because they really want their own and the ability to go mobile...if you went with the V2, then your initial purchase is a healthy participant in that possible outcome. If you saved $60 and got the V1, then whoever gets the V1 will have to accommodate its shorter battery life.

Still, for now, it's primarily docked...so for now, it really doesn't matter which model you have (V1 or V2). Let's focus on controllers! The Pro Controller is a great controller. Make sure you get an "E" unit.. This article explains what I'm talking about (at the time of the article, D was the latest...now we're up to E). There's some debate about what these letters mean, and not all countries use these identifiers (USA does), but one thing is for certain: ones labeled "E" were at the very least put into boxes more recently than prior letters. That implies more recent production runs, and possibly improved components. Anecdotally, it seems like the more recent controllers have higher quality d-pads. This is important because Pro Controllers have acquired a bit of a reputation for overly sensitive dpads that would register some inputs incorrectly. For my part, I have two. I think one is a C and the other is an E. The E's dpad is a lot more reliable, it works like I'd expect. With my older Pro Controller, I do not even waste my time trying to play Tetris 99 with it, due to how easy it is to get erratic responses from the dpad.

Another great option for controllers are the 8bitdo controllers. The SN30 Pro+ is currently on a lightning deal at Amazon. I also really like the non-plus version, the SN30 Pro. It lacks the palm rests and (for the hardcore) programmability, but it's smaller and usually a little cheaper...but for the next 40 minutes, they're the same price!

u/alittlebeat · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I second this OP, I just got in this week the new wireless 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ controller for $50 & its amazing. As someone online described it, its like a hybrid between the dualshock 4 + Switch Pro controller. The layout of the buttons & dpad is like the PS4 dualshock but its a retro Nintendo design for sure. It comes in 3 colors: the Gameboy variant, SNES, or an all black. (I personally went with gameboy cuz I have the Pro controller already which is an all black. And I prefer the button colors for the Gameboy over the SNES)

For features it has:

  1. customizable software (which also includes the ability to set macros to certain buttons or just to adjust the sensitivity of things)

  2. the ability to work across devices/platforms, as it can be used for things like the Switch, Android, Mac, or PC

  3. a rechargeable battery that is ALSO removable & allows you to use two AA batteries to power it if your battery dies (and the rechargeable battery has a 20 hour life which is pretty good for a 3rd party controller

  4. actual handles/wings unlike all the other 8bitdo controllers they've done in the past

The placement of the dpad makes it perfect for platformers, & especially for Mario Maker 2 which is why I pre-ordered it. The official Switch Pro controller is good...except for the fact that the dpad can register false movements. Because you can for example press right & down at the same time accidentally when you're only trying to press right. But the SN30 Pro+ its also an all around great controller, not just for platformers.

If you'd like something more portable & don't mind lacking wings/handles, 8bitdo has smaller versions/variations of the wireless SN30 Pro+ but without wings & the customization software. They are usually between $40-$50 for the SN30 Pro or SF30 Pro models, the regular N30 Pro/Pro2 is around $40, & there's even a wired model for $25.

Good catch with 2.4g vs. bluetooth, I always forget about that.

The biggest differences between each 8bitdo line are aesthetics and features such as rumble, analog sticks, motion controls, triggers and turbo:

  • The SN30 is a base model that only features a d-pad, face buttons and a set of L and R buttons on the top. It resembles a SNES/SFC controller and works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

  • The SN30 Pro takes the SN30 form factor and adds rumble, analog sticks, motion controls, turbo, and a second set of triggers. Still works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

  • The NS30 Pro 2 has all the features of a SN30 Pro controller with a slightly different layout. The second set of shoulder buttons are set inside the first set.

  • The SN30 Pro+ is a SN30 Pro controller in a form factor that adds grips similar to a Sony Dualshock controller. Still works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

    Features

It all boils down to what features you want. The SN30 is a great replacement for a stock SNES/NES controller and is about $10 US cheaper than the other models. The Pro and Pro+ will also work great with the NES Classic, and will allow you to play PS1 games that require analog sticks.

    Aesthetics

8bitdo has a number of color variants for each of their lines that have no effect on how the controllers operate. The SN30 GP line are a set of SN30 controllers stylized like the original Game Boy Pocket line. There's no functional difference between a SN30 and SN30 GP controller other than how it looks. The SN30 Pro line has two options: One that matches the original Game Boy and another that looks like a U.S. Super Nintendo controller.

And there's the newer NS30 Pro2, which has an NES option that should match well with the NES Classic.

    ---

For me, I like the SN30 Pro because it's a good compromise with the SNES controller form factor combined with modern features. The triggers aren't great for modern games, so I only really use my SN30 Pro for emulators and retro-style games.

I already own a set of Dualshock 4 controllers, so I didn't see a need to have grips on my 8bitdo controller. But if I were using an 8bitdo controller as my daily controller, I would strongly consider getting the SN30 Pro+ for the added grips.

8bitdo doesn't do a great job at describing the differences between each of their controller lines. Some sort of feature grid would be extremely helpful.

Okay, I tested it out with all three of my devices (android tablet, Shield TV, and PC). It's a winner. No discernable input lag on the Shield or PC. Minimal lag on the tablet, and that was probably more because the tablet is Intel and struggles to maintain framerates in almost everything. Input lag went away when I gave up on Retroarch on the tablet and tried a GBA game with Pizza Boy GBA, so I'm guessing it was the framerates, I wasn't keeping 60 FPS in RA.

I was able to nail combos on Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 that I struggled with on my XB360 controller on PC. The sticks are sensitive and I can tip toe and move at all speeds in Mario 64 (generally how I test sensitivity with Android controllers, that and F-Zero X but I haven't tested that game yet).

I'd put the d-pad on par with a Nintendo or Sony one. It's... different from the Sony, and has a bit more play in terms of wiggling than a Nintendo one, but it feels good, and no issues with diagonals, rolls, or even f-hcf /qcb/qcf, fdf motions.

The handles are more comfortable and hold more naturally than a Sony pad and really gives it a nice grip along with the slight texture on it. As a bonus, the centered battery gives it a nice heft, the rumble is faint but definitely there. I haven't tested the gyro yet. Also, it has a chargeable battery pack built in but you can also pull it and use AA batteries if you prefer. That was a nice touch, seems they thought of everything.

My only complaint is it doesn't seem to have a home button; at least not one that Android recognizes. Maybe that can be changed via the controller's software. I haven't downloaded that yet.

If you get it, just be sure to pair it to the right mode for your device. I noticed a bit of input lag initially when testing but it's because I paired it in Switch mode to my Android devices. Once I realized the error and paired it properly it was fine.

-----

Edit - I got the Gameboy one (off-white w/magenta buttons), if it matters. Wasn't any matter of preference, it was just the only one in stock at Amazon. I'm glad I did though, the textured strips on the dpad are kinda nice and the other models don't have that.

>Does Zelda have RPG elements? As in something to grind out to make your character OP? Whether it be levels, abilities, and so on.

Kinda, you can upgrade your health and stamina by completing shrines. No traditional experience based RPG levels, you can't just grind in one spot until you're buff.

>Is there a recommendation on controllers?

The official Pro Controller or an 8bitdo SN30 Pro+. Both are quality controllers.

The benefits of the Pro controller is that it can scan Amiibos, has HD rumble and can turn on the system by holding down the home button.

The benefits of the SN30 Pro+ is that it has a much better d-pad, and has software that lets you remap all the buttons, change joystick deadzones, trigger sensitivity, and a few other things.

>Are the A-B-X-Y backwards on all the controllers? I keep pressing b thinking it’s a.

Technically the A-B-X-Y is backwards on every other controller because the SNES controller used those buttons first. But yes, every controller made for the Switch will have the Nintendo layout.

>Now that the gripe is out of the way. I can’t wait to hop into the games on here. Are there any recommendations y’all would make for a PS4 gamer that is mostly into JRPG’s and visual novel/social sim element stuff. Or any single player games on switch you consider to be criminal to not have.

For exclusives, Pokemon Sword\Shield immediately comes to mind, that's out next month. You may also enjoy SteamWorld Quest.

There's also some good multiplatform games that I feel work better on the Switch due to portability like Dragon Quest XI, Final Fantasy 7\8\9\10, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy,
Katamari Damacy Reroll and Undertale. So if you haven't picked up those for PS4 you may want to consider them for the Switch.

Single player games most people enjoy in general and might be your type are Super Mario Odyssey, Bayonetta + Bayonetta 2, and Astral Chain.

I have both 8bitdo SNES controllers:

  • SN 30 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VAQG5GQ/)
  • SN 30 Pro (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BNR6HG9)

The SN30 looks pretty much exactly like the original, except the text says "8Bitdo GamePad Bluetooth Controller" instead of "Super Nintendo Entertainment System". They're both great, and I've gotten pretty good scores in Tetris when playing alone.

But when more controllers are connected, and I'm playing multiplayer Tetris, there's an ever-so-slight input lag that makes me consistently make mistakes. Just switching to the left Joy-Con directional buttons is better.

So my main hope with this official one was that, since it's essentially a Pro controller with missing buttons and sticks, the input lag issue wouldn't exist. I haven't confirmed it. I'll do it this Friday at the office where we play Tetris regularly.

The fact that it also looks like the official one is just a plus ;)

> Playing

I'm still plugging away at Fire Emblem: Three Houses and just started back into Dragon Quest XI. I don't have a ton of new thoughts on either, but I'm playing them and hoping to get through Fire Emblem fairly soon. Hey guess what, that guy what likes JRPGs really likes Dragon Quest go figure.

I bought a 8Bitdo Sn30 to help expand my rotation of controllers. It's a neat little controller with a killer D-pad. The D-pad is so good, in fact, that it kinda makes me worse at the games I've been playing, namely Celeste. I've gotten so used to the kinda squirrely nature of the Joycon analog stick that trying to play with an honest to god D-pad made me fail repeatedly. I played a few SNES games with it and they all felt great, though Super Mario World was a lot harder than I remember.

u/Omg_Seph · 2 pointsr/emulation

I've been thinking about this question for quite some time and have come to the realisation that there is no 'perfect' emulation station. What I've identified is a spectrum where you are trading off portability/convenience for power, and your personal preference will dictate which device is best for you. I'll list pros and cons here on what I think the spectrum looks like from 'Most Power and Least Portability' to 'Most Portability and Least Power':

  • Gaming PC
Pros: Can emulate anything at high quality. Can take any controller. Big display. Access to Steam
Cons: Not portable at all. Expensive
  • Gaming Laptop
Pros: Can emulate most things at high quality. Is portable. Big display. Long(ish) battery life. Can take any controller. Access to Steam
Cons: Bulky to carry and use (if on the go). Heats up significantly. Expensive.
  • 2-in-1 hybrid Laptop / Tablet (Like the Surface Pro)
Pros: Less bulky than a laptop. Small enough to use a controller that wraps around the device (makes gaming on the go better). Can take any controller. Good display size. Access to Steam
Cons: Expensive. Still a large device you will need to carry around. Not quite powerful enough to run the latest gen of emulation really well.
  • Tablet
Pros: Good display size. Less bulky than a laptop. Small enough to use a controller that wraps around the device. Cheap.
Cons: No access to Steam. Cannot emulate much above PS1 (some of the better tablets might be able to). Cannot take USB controllers easily (need adapters). Not all emulators / cores actively developed on iOS / Android
  • Smart Phone
Pros: Extremely portable. You are going to have a phone with you anyway. Not as expensive as the above
Cons: Cannot emulate much above PS1 (Although the very latest smart phones might be able to). Not all emulators / cores actively developed on iOS / Android (you'll be dealing with bugs for longer). Cannot take USB controller. Small display.

Personally I value convenience above all else and have gone with emulation on my smart phone. The controller issue I solved with this which unfortunately blocks the headphone jack, so I got Bluetooth headphones. This means I have some audio lag which isn't great, but I have no controller lag. Most of the games I care about playing are N64 / PS1 / PSP so I have no issues with needing more powerful hardware... although I am thinking about upgrading to something like an S8 so I could play Dolphin games.

I think a 2-in-1 is as close as you can come to a 'perfect' game station. You have the required hardware for on-the-go gaming, it's not too bulky to carry around (unlike fully fledged gaming laptop) and when you want to do some sit-down hardcore gaming (Steam) you can plug it into an external GPU. I haven't committed to this idea yet since I have a decent gaming PC, and my phone is holding down all my emulation needs at the moment. But this seems like the best of both worlds.

u/Cheeetooos · 1 pointr/predaddit

We aren't doing a push present, but I was just shopping for my wife's birthday and settled on these slippers. Alternatively, to go with the gaming theme, I just purchased this controller. It works with the Switch (and PC) and has an awesome d-pad. The same company makes more retro styled controllers but this one is brand new and felt great for old school Mario as well as some Monster Hunter World on PC. I literally got it yesterday, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.

u/qwertylerqw · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I’ve never heard of that controller but 8BitDo is good for a controller with a good d-pad. I would recommend waiting for the SN30 Pro+ to come out because it’ll be much more comfortable than the current SN30 Pro

I have the wired SN30 Pro and it’s d-pad is fantastic. It’s a nice cheaper option

You can also use 8BitDo’s adapter or the MayFlash adapter to use a DS4 controller on the Switch if you already have one

u/pak9rabid · 3 pointsr/gaming

Here's my setup:

  • Raspberry Pi 3
  • LibreELEC
  • Kodi Gamestarter addon
  • 8bitdo SFC30 SNES controller(s)

This allows you to use your Pi not only as a RetroArch machine, but also a general-purpose media center machine running Kodi. Seeing as I have multiple machines like this around the house, I serve up my ROMs and Save Game data off a server via NFS, so that I can play a game on one box, then move to another one and pick up my saved game from there. This is a far better setup than the shit Nintendo is releasing.
u/LansingLivingston · 2 pointsr/ClipStudio

So first up, in case you didn’t know of them, the iPad version of CSP supports slide out hot key controllers on the left and right sides, as either hovering slide outs or fully docked. You can set any of the custom buttons to a short cut in the short cut settings:

https://imgur.com/a/RhXuq2u/

That’s all software-side though. I know iOS 13 added some hardware controller support for XBox and PS controllers, but I don’t have any for testing to be able to confirm if they can work for CSP.

On the plain Bluetooth controller side, I’ve seen the 8bitdo controller recommended in the past and bought one to see how well it would work, as it emulates classic keyboard presses for its iOS mode:

https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Wireless-Gamepad-Controller-Android/dp/B01CJKHXYE/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=8bitdo+iOS&qid=1571180130&sr=8-3

For getting that working, /u/heysawbones made a fantastic guide on the setup details:

https://reddit.com/r/ClipStudio/comments/9z1033/8bitdo_zero_csp_on_the_ipad_guide/

In use I did have success with it as long as I actively used the controller. For example when working on an animation, jumping back and forth frames, I found it to work very well.

In day to day practice however, I ran into issues with the auto sleep where if you don’t press a button within a certain amount of time, it goes to sleep and disconnects.
Since you have to do a special key press to put it in iOS mode when you turn it back on, it did make it a bit irritating. I may just not have had good shortcuts assigned to it though, or I’d just be too lazy to get it paired up again. (It does have a habit of losing the pairing sometimes)

One fun thing to note, if you find yourself wanting a certain set of shortcuts while animating or doing one style of thing, and another for a different thing, the shortcuts are workspace bound, so I was able to make a drawing workspace and animating workspace, allowing re-assignment of the buttons (since the buttons themselves are hard coded to specific letters when pressed).

I still carry it in my bag and if I plan on animating anything again, I will definitely break it back out.

u/Nour_T · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Well, here's some tips!

If you are going full digital, I really recommend you to buy at least a 128 gb microSDXC card, that way you can hold a good amount of games.

If you can, buy the yearly subscription of Switch Online, while it has NES Online and sweet deals and all of that stuff, the cloud save is the best thing it can offer, so that you can have your save files... saved from accidental stuff that hopefully won't happen to your switch.

Pro Controller is a recommended if you want traditional controller, but if you want a cheaper but durable controller, 8bitdo's SN30 Pro's the best one for that. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GK8J3V8?th=1

And of course, the bigger the screen, the better the gameplay, so play it docked. c;

u/Yaaawwnn · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I'm going to link the one I bought. Mind just checking right quick to reassure my brain :)

The folks over at XDA still haven’t cracked the Note 3? That is surprising. I have the Moga Power Pro (same as the pro but bigger battery and can charge you device) and the Pocket. You will not be disappointed by the quality of Moga, any model you choose is well built and sturdy. I don’t recommend the pocket because you will need root with some emulators, the pocket does not have an HID mode like the pro. The 3rd controller you mentioned seems a lot like the IPEGA-9025 and should cost about 20.00 bucks. I read mixed reviews about the IPEGA some bashing the quality of the buttons and others bashing the compatibility with apps and phones. Is Gameclip and option because I think the OTG cable to the Sixaxis controller directly should work. Good Luck, If you do get the IPEGA post a review.

I'm traveling this June too across the Atlantic and this is what I will be taking with me after some thinking/research.

  1. Case: Mumba Carrying Case
Great protection + lots of space especially if you have a grip on your console. Decent price to what you're getting.

  2. Battery Pack: RAVPower 26800 PD Power Bank
26800mAh would be the power limit that planes allow onboard. They ask for less than 100 Wh.To get the Wh of a power bank, use this formula (mAh)/1000 x (V) = (Wh) (V is usually 3.7 for these types of packs)

  3. Controller: 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro Bluetooth Gamepad (G Classic Edition)
Slim and portable and works great with the types of games I play (one of them being Octopath!)

  4. Stand: HORI Compact Stand - Zelda Edition
As most people recommend, a stand is a great thing to carry so you can play without straining your hands from the weight of the switch. This one lets you charge your switch and is designed for it, not a repurposed phone stand.

And obviously your charger, usb-C cables, headphones, joy con straps.

I actually just got that one in your post OP:

I actually really like it. Haven't used it a lot yet, but it feels pretty good in my hands. Fits my Note 8 pretty well. Feels like my old PSP.

I've noticed a fairly large amount ot input-lag though...not sure if it's a controller issue or a general Bluetooth issue.

u/telosucciona · 0 pointsr/smashbros

got a 4 gc controller + adapter + extension chords, all for $55 lol. They work great too, not like top-level competitive viable probably but i pull off some frame tight combos with em no issues, and can now play smash / mk with big groups of friends without having to spend a fortune on controllers. Best option for Switch: 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+

Not only does it have a great d-pad (certainly better than the one on the Pro Controller or Switch Lite), but the form factor and button placement is superb, and you can easily use it to play PC games and emulators

This is the controller I've been using. I absolutely love it. I have a Note 5 so it fills the center of it corner to corner perfectly. I would compare using it to a PSP/Switch.

I use it to play emulators on my phone, as well as play PC games using Steamlink/Moonlight

Highly recommend

The 8Bitdo SN30 Pro+ will be released September 27th, it looks great. I obviously haven’t tried this one but i have used other controllers from 8bitdo and they have really good quality. But it is £42.99.

Here’s the link

Here’s a review from nintendolife.com

There’s another one, the SF30 Pro that looks like a Snes controller with analogue sticks that i think works great, it goes for £34,98

u/ericbsmith42 · 1 pointr/RetroPie

Regarding 1) You've got basically three choices that I can think of.

A) You're going to need to use a custom PCB and build the controls yourself

B) You take apart a USB controller and use those PCBs and all the hardware from that controller to build a control yourself. This is similar to the first, but all the hardware is in one place and a little easier to get your hands on.

C) Just use an external Bluetooth or USB controller. There are some pretty decent ones that should work with the Pi and are designed to be used with a Phone or Tablet, so won't look bad at all if you mount a Pi with screen to them. Something like this one.

Regarding 3) There are tons of screens available up to 7 or 10 inches. Just have a look at aliexpress or ebay. You could even recycle an old tablet screen into an HDMI monitor. Sound is even easier, since the Pi has a 3.5mm audio out jack. All you need to do is wire a couple piezo speakers and a small 5v amp into the audio out jack, or alternatively get a audio Hat for the Pi that has an amp built in (this may be an issue if you get a Screen that plugs into the GPIO).

The 8bitDo SN30 Pro+ is really awesome especially if you’re gonna get into side scrollers or strategy games and the NES and SNES stuff.

It’s super comfortable and pairs very easily to the switch and has a dominant d-pad vs analog stick like the pro controller has.

I have heard the controller is sub par but much better than on screen controls. For just a little more you could get a last gen flag ship android phone, controller and huge SD card that would blow the gpd xd out of the water. If you wanted to spend another hundred you could get a s8/s8plus with this awesome no battery or blutooth needed telescopic controller https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077GK42QN/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1525976357&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=s8%2Bcontroller&th=1&psc=1#nav-search-keywords

I think ds4s are only supposed to work correctly with xperia devices. Unless things have changed in the past few years all solutions require some form of root.

I have an alternative solution tho. Instead of the ds4 why not check out 8bitdo's sn30 pro plus. Mine should be arriving tomorrow, but the one review i read makes it seem as great as i hoped. its more similar to a ds4 then an xbox controller, it supports android over bluetooth, and you can charge it with usb c instead of that god aweful micro usb port the ds4 has. Also based on pictures its got a mount for phone but idk if that comes with it.

  1. Nulaxy Dual Foldable Stand - Nice and solid stand, but very light weight. Doesn't feel like it's going to fall over.

  2. Mumba Nintendo Switch case - I have an issue where the Switch's thin size makes my hands hurt after a while. This has helped that a lot and makes it feel like I am not going to drop it.

  3. 8bitdo FC30 Pro Controller - I really like this controller. It feels good in my hands, like the old NES controller.

  4. Google Pixel 18W USB-C Power Adapter - God's own travel charger for the Switch. Worth the money.

  5. A game. Pick one you think you'll like.

I've been looking for one for a long time. This is pretty much what i hear a lot as well. I however have had a good experience using the max catz micro controllers. I had two, and we used them SO much, that they eventually wore out and i couldn't find the same ones anymore. To keep this fair, they fit my and my friends hands nearly perfectly, where as the normal Nintendo gamecube controller always felt too big for us at the time. We also did not experience any of the many proclaimed issues they were supposedly supposed to have. Maybe we got the only good two controllers, but they worked like a hot damn!

Now i prefer the normal controller as well, as my hands have grown to the right size and don't feel too small anymore, which is nice. It's too bad my normal controllers are starting to wear out too... Maybe i can find those madcatz ones again if i look hard enough.

Here kitty kitty kitty.....

u/OldAccountIsGone · 1 pointr/lgg2

I do, Keyboards and Mice work fine, never had a problem with Flash drives either (I used 32GB). For Emulation I would recommend a Bluetooth controller because I tried it with an Xbox 360 controller and the huge ass cable was a big hassle so I gave up and got a Bluetooth one. Here it is for the US, 29 dollars. I got mine in Germany for around 31 dollars and don't regret it at all, most games work out of the box like GTA SA, GT Racing 2, Real Racing 3, Modern Combat games, Dead Trigger 1 and 2 and so on. Emulators require a 2 minute configuration but that's not too bad. Especially awesome if you have a Slimport HDMI adapter and play with it on your TV, which is not possible with wired controllers.

EDIT: Here, I found it in white for 23.50 dollars

The 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ controller is a good alternative.

The Shield controller will be getting a refresher soon in the rumor mill. It would be nice since I am really satisfied with the Shield controller.

I like the PS4 dpad more, giving it priority over an Xbox controller.

u/younglump · 1 pointr/giantbomb

I checked out the Sn30 Pro Plus with the grips on it and wow I'm blown away by how the great this dpad is. The price point is perfect for my needs as I haven't needed gyro or hd rumble for a switch game in a while. The clickyness of everything made mon hun, dragon quest, and Celeste such a blast, like I almost regret playing 60 hours of that game with analog sticks D: Hoping to check out Hollow Knight soon as well. I guess I'm just bummed that you can't use it to turn on the Switch but beside that this controller's a super good one.

u/samvest · 1 pointr/AndroidGaming

I've heard good things about this controller https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077L8656T/

It's very similar to the Wee controller which I have and really love for emulation and also native Android games. (Platformers and top down games). I eventually had a fault with my controller after much use but it sounds like the daqi might be put together a little better. Also FYI I have a 5.5" screen phone and it holds it horizontal or vertical.

I'm hoping Valve does something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Telescopic-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-CA1042ZR/dp/B01DZR5WJI

Telescopic controllers seem to be the ones that can fit around the sides of a phone / tablet, and overall can create a better form factor (imo) for gaming and portability than sticking a phone clip onto the top of a controller.

u/kfsb2 · 6 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Controller-Telescopic-Connecting-Joystick/dp/B077L8656T

I love this controller. Makes my phone feel like a switch. Haven't noticed any input lag and it works great for ps1 games as well as NES and GBA.

Solidly built, very responsive and nice clickable buttons and triggers, and you can also click in the sticks.

It stretches to fit your phone (just check your phone length I think it needs to be under 6in). Won't fit in jeans pockets but it'll fit in cargo shorts or a hoodie. I keep it in my backpack and use it on the train

More of a SNES controller but can be used for NES games easily: iBuffalo controller

You can also go for a Bluetooth variant: [8bitdo controller] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Y0LUQFE/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1509975030&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=8bitdo+sf30&dpPl=1&dpID=41wQuB79i1L&ref=plSrch)

I have both and both work great. You can find cheaper versions of these but in my experience you always notice the cheapness when you get those controllers. But, they might be usable if you don't mind that

If you are wanting to get a controller you can use for years to come though I'd pick either the iBuffalo or the 8bitdo. You can also get the 8bitdo controllers in the style of old NES controllers if you really are set on it being NES specifically

The 8bitdo snes controller says it can act as a wiimote. I have one and they are great, but I use it with my PC so I can't speak to the WiiU support. Just make sure to get the wireless version as the cheaper model doesn't do bluetooth.

I like the controllers with the phone clips because there's more control with how the screen is angled. I don't like the controllers that attach to the sides of the phone (like a Game Gear). I have a Gamesir G4S. It's quite good in feel. The only issue I have is it randomly disconnects now and then, which isn't too big a deal for a game like FFT.

A lot of people like the 8bitdo variants with a separate clip, but they're smaller than I'd like.

Thanks for your response. That sounds like it may be a good workaround, though I don't have access to a Wiimote at the moment, so that's an additional expense... But it's a good idea.

I'm thinking it actually looks like this version of the controller is the one I'm looking for?

Seems to be a slightly older model that isn't on their website, but is marketed as being PC bluetooth compatible, so maybe I'll give it a try. Hopefully it will work with a superNT in the future, I'm considering getting one.

Edit: I'm going to give this method a go with the newer 2.4G model and see if I can fool Windows into thinking it is a WiiController... I'll report back my findings for science.

... and it's awesome. Very little input lag that I can tell. Battery seems to last forever as well

u/hidaviki · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Oh, to your accidentally drop issue:
I've owned this game before on PS3 and PS4 and had this issue even on those gamepads with proper dpad. The problem is in a heated battle you press the dpad a bit harder than usual and if you do you accidentally make an "up" command even though you press left or right (because you press really hard on left or right with a little bit of "up" pressure which triggers the up command internally in the gamepad).

Just saying the lack of true dpad actually solved this issue with the joycons because all 3 directions are separated. I've been playing this game on PS3 and PS4 for about a year with 2 friends and we all 3 occasssionally had this issue on other platforms. The JoyCons fixed that!

If you really want to play with a true dpad though I can recommend the SNES controller by 8bitdo which supports the Switch: https://www.amazon.com/8bitdo-SFC30-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B00Y0LUQFE/
While having a true dpad, it also doesn't have this occassionally up press by accident. We tried it!

I am hyped for KH3, that game play trailer!!!

Also I agree, Nintendo has me hyped. The switch has been the only console ever I have gotten at launch and preordered. I don't regret getting it all all. There's been some minor hiccups with the system but nothing major. Multiplayer is a little hard with only the joycons. My boyfriend and I initially picked up only one pro controller but we are looking to get one more. We're actually probably going to get this instead of a second pro controller.

u/boxsterguy · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have this one and I don't notice any input lag over what would be noticeable with a normal Switch Pro controller when using it with my Switch. You do not need a separate dongle for the Switch. The ones 8bitdo sell are for bluetooth-less devices, like the mini consoles (Wii accessory-style connector to Bluetooth) or original consoles (SNES to Bluetooth, NES to Bluetooth, Genesis to Bluetooth). On Switch or Raspberry Pi or a laptop or PC with built-in Bluetooth will work just fine. If you have a PC without Bluetooth, pretty much any dongle will work just fine.

u/cpcallaway · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Best controller I've had was a Mad Catz micro GameCube controller. I love the way it felt and it just seemed like the exact size I wanted, so it was a great fit for me.

Worst controller would have to be the Wii U pro controller I bought recently. :( While I absolutely adore the feel of it, the connection is just so bad. I'll input moves and they frequently won't register onscreen for 1-2 seconds, and sometimes they don't register at all. I'd estimate that 75-80% of my inputs work just fine, but that 20-25% that are dropped or delayed can really just ruin a match for me. It's strange, because I've even experimented with putting the sensor bar for my Wii U right a foot away from my controller while I play and I still see the exact same issues. It's such a shame, because it's a great controller otherwise.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ND166P6/ In-stock fine for me. Make sure you're searching Pro+ rather than sn30+, cuz that's what they call it

u/ZeroHex · 1 pointr/gadgets

Get a cheap tablet for about $60 and treat yourself to a nice controller for another $25 and you basically have a portable NES/SNES/Sega Genesis/Dreamcast machine that you can use instead?

u/breezytrees · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I went with the pro gaming elite bundle and it's a game changer.

I also bought this ravpower 26800 powerbank which the case was specifically made to fit and it fits like a glove.

It can also fit a spare set of joycons (complete with the bumpers attached), an 8bit sn30pro, this portable dock, and this small charger, complete with all cables required except the hdmi cable.

Full disclosure, that dock and compact charger works with latest switch firmware, but the dock has died once already and was replaced under warranty by the manufacturer. If I were to do it again I'd probably switch to the bionic all in one dock that includes charger, hdmi cable, and everything.

Edit: Bonus: I also attached a pro controller to the unit via this molded controller case attached to the satisfy case via the provided carabiner - or I would if this particular part of my setup wasn’t stolen.

u/Grantoid · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The 8bitdo sn30 pro+ is just a way better version that already exists.

I have the 8bitdo SNES 30 Bluetooth (actually SFC 30 b/c Amazon was out of US version controllers, set them up the day I got them and haven't had an issue since.

Well... one issue. When they first connect whatever menu I'm on goes hard scrolling (left on the main emulator menus, down on the rom selection screens). As soon as I touch a button it stops it and all is good.

I assume there is something small and trivial to fix but it really doesn't bother me much at all. Just need to google it. But if anyone knows what the fix is let me know!

u/ronfar623 · 0 pointsr/emulation

I highly recommend the Daqi M100 for phone gaming. It's far more weight balanced due to the center positioning, fits almost everything, and the buttons and sticks are about on par with the PS Vita:

Looks like it's just their take on the telescopic bluetooth controllers you can buy currently. Most of them are crap from no-name Chinese companies, so it seems like this will take that idea and do it with Xbox branding and proper build quality.

I've been using SuperRetro16 with the 8BITDO SFC30 bluetooth controller. Works really well.

I just saw the product link you posted, I have the Bluetooth model with the retro receiver.

Of note I got the SFC30 for easier use for my kids (push the Green button) but again the parts are swappable with official controllers if you want to keep the purple scheme, or just buy the Bluetooth SN30.

u/_Dialtone · 1 pointr/GearVR

I realize I'm a month late but I got this one a while back and it works flawlessly for every GearVR game or Emulator that I've tried. Hold HOME and X to put it into pairing mode for android.

I use the SF30 Pro (Also called SN30 Pro) when playing PPT on Switch.

The SN30 Pro+ will be released soon which add grips, analog triggers, and control customization through PC software.

Both of these have 4 modes: X-Input, D-Input, Switch, and MacOS.

Seems okayish to carry around, i wish they were connected via usb but oh well compromises.

But yeah biggest problem is UI and also that pc games arent gameplay optimized for short sessions.

You described an Nvidia shield. Which is the exact same SoC. Or any of dozens of alternative options that meet your requirements. There have been for years.

The cell phone in your pocket literally does this. There are controller mounting accessories. You can literally use any controller you want via Bluetooth or USB. There's an $8 controller mount on Amazon. There are side mounted wireless controllers of every style and variation; https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Controller-Retractable-Telescopic-Joystick/dp/B077L8656T

https://www.ebay.com/i/372653044435

There are dozens of those. All without broken controller drift issues. And of you really wanted to, you can use the switch controllers on any Android device already.

Nearly every modern phone has HDMI out. In fact I don't know a single androis phone released in the last 3 years that doesn't have one.

And a longer battery. And high end phones absolutely decimate the switch hardware. And higher resolution screens.

I have no idea how someone can pretend to sound so technically savvy, but know next to nothing about anything they're saying.

It is not a life changer for the emulation scene. Android is already a targeted platform and has been for years.

Absolute fucking nutter. Look at the effort you put into being completely uninformed. Mind boggling.

Even a quick Google reveals mainstream articles showcasing the same concept; https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/05/how-to-turn-your-smartphone-into-an-almost-nintendo-switch/amp

You can already do everything you want to do. And all it would have taken was five minutes of effort.

Once Amazon processes my refund, I'm going to get one of the new revisions with the horizontal start and select buttons instead of the slanted ones and see if it too has the problem (link below). They don't look as good as the originals, but at this point I really just want a controller in this form factor that works the way it's supposed to.

This one is themed to resemble the Game Boy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GKLG3ZP?pf_rd_p=d1f45e03-8b73-4c9a-9beb-4819111bef9a&pf_rd_r=BG1RRKBZ5JFADPN2EA1R&th=1

Been wanting to get one of these kind of controllers for my phone but 40+ bucks is a little much for me.

u/TreeFitThee · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

I picked up this 3.5"
LCD
from Amazon. Unfortunately, I clicked buy before I measured. I think the biggest that will fit is 2.8". I'm currently looking for another option without having to spend double for the 2.8" touch screen Adafruit has to offer (since I don't care if it's touch screen).

I have not yet figured out how I'll do controls. I was going to wait until the blog author posts an official parts list. In the mean time I was going to pair it with my 8bitdo SFC30 controller.

u/Squid_Smuggler · 17 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

8 bitdo sn30 pro plus, it says in the description that it's compatible with windows 7 and works well on switch. The only downside is that it can't wake the switch up from sleep.
