u/Zuul1138 · 3 pointsr/ghostbusters

I have a 3 year old that wanted to be a Ghostbuster so let me help you out:

Proton Pack - The rubies pack doesn't have lights or sound but looks pretty good and is perfectly scaled for a smaller child. The spirit pack might be a little too big and heavy for a little guy: https://www.amazon.com/Rubies-Costume-Classic-Ghostbusters-Backpack/dp/B01CIOHLAM

The uniform can be bought a few different ways. Spirit does sell a pretty good quality one that comes with the Venkman name tag: https://www.spirithalloween.com/product/tv-movies-gaming/movies/ghostbusters/kids-ghostbusters-boys-one-piece-costume-ghostbusters-classic/pc/1382/c/3810/sc/1471/150345.uts?thumbnailIndex=9

If your kiddo is like mine, it might be too big. I would suggest checking out a store and trying it on first. If it is too big, you best alternative might be this flight suit from Amazon. While it's exactly screen accurate, the sizing most likely is for a little one and you can remove all the patches and sew on the GB ones: https://www.amazon.com/Aeromax-Fighter-Pilot-Suit-Embroidered/dp/B00X1AOO7G/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1537216807&sr=1-3&keywords=kids+flight+suit

As for the name tags/patches if you go with the Amazon flight suit, I have bought from the seller below with great success. She has a quick turnaround (1 to 2 days before shipping) and the quality is pretty good: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TODDLER-Ghostbusters-No-Ghost-1-Custom-Name-Tag-Patch-Set-Iron-on-backed/390932212275?epid=1931622681&hash=item5b05602a33:g:-7cAAMXQBLNTlfyh:sc:USPSFirstClass!86323!US!-1

Lastly, the accessories like goggles and trap would most likely be best bought from spirit. The size of the goggles is a little small and fit my kids pretty well. The trap will be a little big but I am sure you son will have a blast playing with it (it looks like the trap is sold out online but I am sure you can find one in store). Here is the link to the goggles: https://www.spirithalloween.com/product/light-up-ghostbusters-ecto-goggles-ghostbusters/164359.uts?Extid=sf_froogle

u/lsves001 · 9 pointsr/LARP

You will never have the perfect garb at your first event, but you can have some pretty cool garb.

I recommend contacts, black out contacts if you can afford them. They can give you some big wow points

Practice makeup the weeks before. A lot of the characters personality will come from the face. YouTube tutorials. I liked this one: https://youtu.be/Xzm9nzAQe4U, but if it's an outdoor or combat larp it may not be appropriate.

Next I will recommend a corset. Corsets are easy to buy, comfortable, and sexy as hell no matter your shape. Here's an example of what I would look into getting: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ESYASXM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_k-xJxb81BDKWY

Last depends on the character's personality. You can either do a skirt or pants. I'd do a pair of pleather pants because that's the type of character I play. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U83KYIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uiyJxbMK49XWC

Something else you could look into is hair. I'd dye my hair black and spike it, but my hair is short. You could also look into getting a wig. Sometimes you can get the look you want without a wig which is what I'd recommend if you can. Long and straight is a classic, but high ponytail is dominatrixy.

Tit-bits here and there can really make a character shine. Pop into your local thrift store to check out belts, jewelry, and non costume props like a goblet or black leather boots.

Head jewelry is a must for any princess. Something like this maybe: https://www.etsy.com/listing/202284704/gold-headdress-gold-head-chain-boho

Add some sculpy horns. There are so many tutorials on this. If you're budget is a little more fluffy buy some horns like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003JH8T9A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0uyJxb2CTFW3A I'd spray paint them to look like bone and reenforce the horns with clips and better elastic for active wear.

Fangs might be a good idea too. I normally use scarecrow brand for those. They're inexpensive and look good. It's a good bang for your buck

Really what it comes down to is the characters purpose and personality. I'd do a combat succubus because that's what I would enjoy playing (lust and wrath are easy for me). You could also do an extremely useful vain daemon and be painfully georgeous, you could never do combat and get away with a lot better costuming. I don't know what your budget is either. I normally drop $100 on any character I start, but you could be rich. I don't know.

  1. My first instinct would be to get something like this but after seeing the amazin dress meowbabymeow picked out I would decide to compliment her best by wearing something like this

  2. the evening would start off with me and /u/rightfootedglove picking /u/meowbabymeow and /u/bubblybreath up in the limo we worked 3 weeks of overtime to afford. I would surprise my date with flowers and have an extra bouquet in the limo in case rightfootedglove forgot to get his date some. We would stop in a meadow or field with bright green grass and beautiful flowers for photos. We would get back into the limo and open a bottle of champagne and i would make a toast to the glamorous night ahead of us. after arriving, and getting settled as she suggested we will watch all the drunk people dancing. We will then hit the dance floor and bust out completely in sync choreographed dances like this and this. Then she would walk away to get something to drink. a slow song will come on. i'll walk over and extend my hand. "may I have this dance?" ill ask shyly. We will walk onto the dance floor, and slow dance. Just as the song is about to end I'll look in her eyes, Tell her she looks beautiful and thank her for the lovely evening. Then we will probably leave early cause we are way too cool to stay the entire time. Maybe get some food, watch a movie, mini golf, laser tag, i would let her control how the rest of the evening went. (wow reading this over again its really apparent now 10 years later how bad i actually wanted to go to prom)

/u/lvwagner messaged us yesterday hours ago commenting on the rather dated nature of the Silverfish Full face guide linked in our wiki. So, with the aim of replacing it and adding to my already-pretty-extensive Safety Gear Guide, I present the Full Face Helmet guide!

It's not finished, and I'm open to adding more - so feel free to leave any suggestions in the comments below!

Helmets are a seriously important piece of kit for skating, and we’ve already got a pretty good guide for half-shell lids. However, once you start going faster you’ll find that your piss-pot helmet just won’t cut it.

That’s where a
FULL FACE helmet comes in.

Yes, they’re expensive. Not prohibitively so, but you’ll be paying at
least double the price of a standard half-shell helmet. Sure, you could skimp on a cheap one [please don’t buy that…], but this is your head we’re talking about protecting here. You only get one skull.

In terms of
SAFE**^ full-face helmets, you have two primary options.

  1. Longboarding-specific helmets.

    |Pro [+] |Con [-]
    |:-|:-
    |Designed for longboarding. | Expensive
    |Optimum visibility
    |Aerodynamics
    |Visor for blocking wind at speeds
    |Shape is designed for easy tucking
    |Lightweight

  2. Modified Mountain Bike helmets

    |Pro [+] |Con [-]
    |:-|:-
    |Cheaper| Non-aerodynamic
    |Same level of safety rating | No stock visor
    || ^^[Usually] heavier
    || Less visibility

    ^^ ^yes, ^I ^know ^that ^there ^are ^other ^options ^out ^there ^like ^skydiving/paragliding ^helmets, ^or ^even ^motorbiking. ^But ^I ^don't ^believe ^they're ^safe ^enough ^to ^recommend ^in ^this ^guide.*

For longboarding-specific helmets, you have several common options.

    | Helmet | Price
    |:-|:-
    |Predator DH6 |
    $325
    |Triple 8 Racer |
    $300
    | New Olders Super Race |
    ~$220
    | Vector m-5 |
    $220

Once you delve into mountain bike helmets, however, there's a lot more choice - not all of which will be good for skating.

By far the most commonly used MTB helmet used for skating is the BELL DROP ($110). Cheap, CPSC certified and relatively light, you couldn't really ask for much more - except perhaps a Roger Bros Bell Drop Visor ($25), or maybe the DIY option.

The other common option is the 661 Comp Shifted ($74), although it's more bulky than the Drop and slightly heavier, too.

In the end, the main decider on which helmet you get is going to be price. If you can afford a longboarding-specific helmet, by all means go for it. If you're planning to race seriously, the benefits of a helmet like that are massive. However, if you just want some added protection and your budget can't quite stretch to the ~$200 mark, then know that you'll be just as safe in a MTB lid like the Bell Drop or 661 Comp.

  1. They look like martial arts pants and martial arts pants would probably look better for photos as they are made from a more stiff bodied material than sweatpants.

  2. I've seen a lot of people use simple waterproof liquid eyeliner with good results for tattoos (you may need two or three pens for a tattoo that size), but there is also alcohol activated Skin Illustrator Tattoo that will only come off with alcohol

  3. If you plan on making the mask, I suggest to buy a cheap skull mask as a base like this http://www.amazon.com/Cryptic-Cadavers-Skull-Bones-Halloween/dp/B001TEYIEA/ref=sr_1_41?ie=UTF8&qid=1396433677&sr=8-41&keywords=skull+mask, hotglue yellow spandex over it for and cut off the bottom portion. Reason being that you wouldnt usually get such a defined browbone structure from just wearing a cloth mask alone. Draw in the eye holes and trim to shape.

Good luck, and if you actually try out this method of making the mask I'd love to see the end result as it's a theory XD
u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

you could try your hand at this? that might get your mind off of things for a while :)

Edit: here's some more things that might make you smile (I'm just realizing how wacko my wishlists are)

u/TheStoryOfMankind · 1 pointr/wow

Not sure how it'd look, but maybe consider getting one of these to wear under the helmet? Arthas' face is rarely shown as the Lich King.

Then to really kick it up a notch, attach some blue LEDs to the eye holes of the helmet.

But it already looks amazing, so don't take my ideas to mean anything different. Excellent work!

u/Rubenick · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Horse head :P. Funniest thing I've found :)

Flintstones

u/TheNef · 1 pointr/batman

You could get one like this or this and paint them yourselves.

My idea for a more form fitting version was to get a mask like the first one and then paint it, cut it into pieces, and mount it to a hood like this.

u/darksaber522 · 3 pointsr/StarWars

Well it will depend on your definition of 'Affordable'.

Under 30$

Funko Pop's! A good choice for <12$. And there's a wide variety of characters to choose from.

Thrawn is a good re-introduction to one of the most memorable Star Wars villains.

Battlefront II: Inferno Squad serves as a companion piece to the new game coming out next week.

Over 30$

Smuggler's Bounty Box A subscription box by Funko. One Box =25$ 12 month subscription (6 boxes) =150$

LEGO Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter You're never too old for LEGO! Also Available: BB8, Resistance Bomber, First Order Heavy Assault Walker

Battlefront II Might be a good choice if your kids are into gaming. I've played the beta, and loved it despite some flaws. But be forewarned, this game has been getting slammed online for it's loot-box/progression system. Also available on Playstation 4 & PC

Black Series Helmets

Stormtrooper shown. Poe Dameron, Shadow Trooper & Kylo Ren are also available.

Black Series Lightsaber

Darth Vader shown. Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Kylo Ren are also available.

A Custom-made Lightsaber:(Very pricey!)

Ultrasabers, Vader's Vault, Saberforge

u/Toa_Quarax · 1 pointr/StarWars

I think we're all talking about the same helmet by EFX, it's just that prices have gone up because EFX seems to be sold out right now. So, until they make more, the prices will be gouged. If they don't end up making more, I'd recommend The Black Series helmet, but it seems that prices have been raised a bit on those too (but only by $20 at most; wish I would have bought it when it was cheaper).

u/ironysparkles · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need these so that I may frolic in the fields without judgement. You see, when I frolic I get looks like "Why is that person frolicing, that's weird." But if you see someone wearing huge ram horns frolicing in a field, you say "Why is that person wearing ram horns? That's weird" and you forget to judge them for the frolicing!

Thus I shall be free to prance and skip at my leisure.

u/Evan1701 · 6 pointsr/501st

Yes! I've used these for my costumes, particularly Darth Nihilus and a ROTS Royal Guard. You can use them for any costume that requires a "jack boot" style boot.

u/JeepersMister · 1 pointr/cosplayers

Yeah, but I used a simpler mask since I didn't want it to be as detailed. It worked really well. It doesn't destroy the masks or anything either, so if it doesn't work out for whatever reason you can always use them for another method.

u/pea_shooter · 2 pointsr/ghostbusters

I like these affordable options, I have the foam one that I bought last year. It's not completely movie quality, but much better than those inflatable ones.

Uta is a master mask maker. He probably uses morph masks or two-way mirrors.

Now as for the kakuja masks that cover the eyes, yeah, I can't think of an excuse for that, haha. At least Kurona has the convenience of having multiple "eyes".

u/haletothechief · 1 pointr/creepy

Yeah, we just bought these and painted them and made the guy from a pillowcase. Good call on buying them though, the girl masks were so annoying and took forever!

u/TweakedNipple · 1 pointr/Albany

Amazon is pretty safe, and I doubt you'll find anything close to this awesome at the costumer.

u/Cow_Plow · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Those boots would go pretty well with this suit.

u/LoverOLife · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I put these two items in my private, 'not really' wishlist because they made me laugh! enjoy and enjoy

u/nasty-nick · 1 pointr/halloween

Try this maybe?
Black Mask typically has his entire head covered. Also major props if you can paint it a metallic black. That would look amazing.

u/TAMU202430 · 15 pointsr/Ultralight

Yeah I've had great success with this one. I used to hike in a button-down shirt and short shorts but now I exclusively hike in my suit.

u/WesterosiAssassin · 2 pointsr/cosplayers

Thanks! They're these on Amazon.

u/ellieredish · 1 pointr/cosplay

Maybe try searching for linen cloak or medieval cloak then modify it if needed? These look promising but I haven’t tried the site before.

https://www.medievalcollectibles.com/product/gora-canvas-cloak/

Helmets are a pain to make which is why they’re pricy. Consider buying something similar then modifying it. Cheap Halloween props are easy to modify and they’ll be a lot at thrift stores this time of year. This one looks promising.

If there's a chance you'll attend again, grab a pair of these to wear. It will add needed flair to strengthen your image.

Dude aint nothing wrong with a goku shirt, just a full out orange gi at the gym haha

u/Renz2LK · 3 pointsr/cosplay

For convenience here's another pic

The cage looks to be a very simple design and can easily be constructed using cardboard or EVA foam. My personal preference would be to use EVA foam.

Things you'd need:

  • EVA foam (you can order online or get from your local big name hardware store)

  • Blue-ish colored thin plastic for the covering (probably can get this at your local craft store or you can use something from an office supply store)

  • skull mask or something similar (from your local halloween or costume store) or Amazon

  • LEDs (to add the glowing effects)

If a Republican proposed the same bill, Trump probably would have publicly supported it. Maybe Sanders can wear this and get it passed.

u/i-really-like-mac · 9 pointsr/gaybros

It's your browsing history. I recently looked into apartments, and 2 seconds later, my FB ads are for apartments.com. It gets weird sometimes because sometimes, I'd browse /r/ofcoursethatsathing/ and find a weird item from Amazon like these goosh pants or these circumcision trainers and both items have shown up to my FB ads (second item is NSFW).
