Small things but be sure to bring a backpack, comfortable shoes, cash, water, and snacks (convention food is expensive). I bought THIS which changed my life for cons. So much easier to carry books around without risk of damage.
Most dealers will typically give the best deals on Sundays. I usually thumb through boxes, and if I see a few I like, I pick them out and say "hey man, would you do a bundle deal if I bought all 5 of these?" typically they'll cut your something. Or "hey man do you have a deal if I buy 10 books?"
For expensive stuff, I usually ask to see the book so I can get a closer look (genuinely want to inspect it) and if I want a lower price just be polite and honest "I'm really interested in the book, but think you can come down at all? Maybe by $10?" most books are marked up for cons expecting to be negotiated (for expensive books), so just be casual about it! And don't be afraid to ask about their collections or shop, I've met some super nice dealers who insist on throwing in a few more books to make a good impression.
Time of day won't matter, you can use my advice any day, but Sunday is when they put out the signs for best discounts.
You'll get the feel for the type of book pretty quick. Usually there are tables with longboxes for cheaper books, and a wall at a distance for expensive books. They'll ask if you want to see anything, and if you're just browsing, just be honest. I like looking at keys so it's fun to admire.
So I'm just starting out - like haven't started yet. I'm going to try and sell some of my old stuff first to see how this goes. I'll be moving accross the country in the next year, so this coincides with me wanting to get rid of things so I don't have to pay to move it. If I like it though, I'll buy more stuff to sell when I get to my new location. However, the logistics of packing and shipping is really confusing.
Here are my questions:
If you don't know if you like the triangle grip of the Safari, best bet would be start with the Jinhao 599, same basic shape, much cheaper to try. This link is to a set of hooded fine nib 599s, they also come in exposed nib medium.
> would love to find one that comes with multiple nibs
This is my opinion only, but there are a lot of good pens at the low end of the market price wise that are still very good pens, the Pilot Metro you have is one of them. Find out what the nib variance is using these pens, and as you move to more expensive pens, buy the nib for the task you want the pen for. Forget about many nibs for a single pen, it really is more hassle than having a pen with the nib you want.
Also note if you want to move to pens by someone like Lamy, the M you have on the Metro is more like an F or EF on the Safari, depending on the luck of your grind from Lamy.
Now for some basic recommendations, besides the Wing Sung 698, the Wing Sung 659 and Jinhao 992 might interest you. The links are Amazon, but you might find them cheaper elsewhere like aliexpress.
Hope this helps some, lots of info as you get started, but also lots of fun as you begin this journey and explore.
A little late to the game, but I have a couple of cents on this topic as well. I own Tombows, the Faber Castell's mentioned below, as well as Pentel Sign Touch Pens, and Kuretake Fudes. I think a lot of the commenters hit the nail on the head re: Tombows. They can be tough to use and hard to control transitions from thick to thin lines. In my experience, this has less to do with the flexibility of the nib and more about the type of head the pen uses. Tombows have a pretty large fiber brush head, and it's not as "springy" as some other pens. This means when you let back on the pressure, you have to really gauge how much pressure you need to reduce to get a thinner line. A lot of pens with a smaller head, especially felt tipped pens, will be a lot more forgiving in terms of pressure variation.
If you do want to get some smaller pens, the FC are decent. They have fantastic color transfer, but I feel like they're scratchier than some of the other options that I have, and also a tad bit more expensive. I really like the Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pens. The head is a tiny bit smaller than the FC pens, so you won't be able to get quite as thick of a downstroke. If you want something more comparable in size to the FCs, Kuretake Fudebiyoris are pretty similar and also writes a bit smoother.
That said, I think it also depends on what you're going for. If you want consistent lettering early on, a felt tip pen with a smaller nib is your best bet. However, because they're so much easier to control, I find that if I use those exclusively for a while, the quality of my lettering deteriorates. Tombows force you to really learn to control your pressure. If your goal is to perfect lettering with all types of pens (felt, brush, watercolor, etc) and with all sorts of nib sizes, I think using Tombows to practice with is the best option.
I assume you have not used hand tools much.
The first thing I would learn how to do and invest in is how to get your tools sharp, like really sharp. I mean shiny flat back and edge razor sharp. Without really sharp tools - hand joinery is not fun and much harder than it needs to be.
There is the scary sharp method, I am sure u/Peniceiling's suggestion works great, I use Shapton Stones, there are as many ways to sharpen as there are woodworkers.
But you will need to research and invest time in some way of sharpening and get good at it.
A simple Honing Guide can make things easier when you start.
This Small Rip Dozuki B. was recommended by the instructor I had for a hand joinery class last year as the best bang for the buck they knew of - I found it works great.
I'd get a 1/2in Chisel. When you get the chisel, it will not be sharp. You will have to spend time tuning it up.
A Mallet to hit the chisel.
I personally prefer a round marking gauge. This has to be sharpened just like your chisel so it cuts the wood fibers evenly and cleanly.
Small Sliding Bevel gauge to mark your dovetails.
A good quality double square is invaluable. Best $ value I have found for one of these is here.
A 2.0mm lead holder with sharpener is very helpful. Lets you mark into areas a regular pencil will not fit.
That would be everything I can think of to do all half blind and through dovetails, finger-joints etc.
A drill(press) and a couple more chisels sizes will get you mortise and tenons with standard 4/4 6/4 and 8/4 stock.
Good Luck.
Part 2/7: Accessories
goodnice watch. Tame down the smartwatches and fitness trackers. No, the bright pink custom band for your rose gold apple watch does not go with your conservative suit. No, I don't care that it cost you more than your fiancees engagement ring.Good for you. That being said, I look forward to how iBeacons and Smartwatches can make traveling easier, guiding you step by step to lounges or theshortestmost endurable security line.shitty, greasy, absolutely horrible wanna-bepastry fromStarbucksthe lounge.recyclingenabling the synergetic use of previous ideas and methods.I'd like to chime in here because I am in the exact same position as you, wanting a note-taking device for college (grad school in my case).
I got the Chromebook Plus Version 1 because of the following:
-form factor - it's basically the size of a regular notepad, so really great for notetaking (I use Squid)
-ability to use linux apps (not that I have, but that I could)
I really like it, and have had a lot of comments about my setup. I got the Staedtler Noris Digital Pencil for handwriting notes - this is an amazing improvement over the built in stylus, which isn't bad to begin with.
I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard, but the CBP might be better. I find it cramped, but am getting used to it.
The surface is soft and marks/scratches. Not sure if that matters to you.
Your biggest challenge will be to find the right combination of apps to make a workflow that is good for you. I work mostly in squid, where I can import pdfs to mark up, and also do handwritten notes on lined "paper", or other types of "paper" markings. Some people choose to send squid documents to Evernote so that they can be OCR'd and thus searchable, but I have found this workflow to be cumbersome. I'm still trying to get the right workflow myself and welcome anyone else's suggestions.
I used a chromebook all the way through my MBA as my exclusive computer. When I did my MS in Data analytics I needed to install specific software on a Windows laptop. Now, in a PhD program, I can do most of my work on my Chromebook which is nice and portable, but I still need my Windows laptop for specific software.
I hope this helps somewhat. If you have the opportunity, get some hands-on time with the device to make sure that it works for you. With using it in tablet mode for note taking especially - the form factor will matter (not too big, not too narrow...)
Happy to answer more questions if you have any, acknowledging that I have a different model than the one you are looking at.
For me it was finding a type of notebook that worked for me. I tried a Leuchtturm type notebook and didn't like it (unpopular opinion, it seems) because I'm a bit of a perfectionist and not being able to remove pages cleanly bothered me. Also as a lefty it wasn't the most comfortable.
Then I tried a spiral-bound notebook from Muji and the paper was great and I enjoyed it for awhile but it still wasn't quite flexible enough for me.
Eventually I found out about the discbound system and fell in love with it. Super customizable and flexible. Pages can be easily removed and reordered. You can also take the pages out if you want to write without the discs getting in the way. I love it. I also am able to put in dividers to make different sections for even more organization which is a huge plus for me. I use the cover from the Martha Stewart collection and then have a discbound punch that I use to punch sheets out of this notepad from Rhodia. It works perfectly for me and keeps me motivated because it fits all of my preferences.
Cheap and good: Staedtler 925: 3-pack of 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 0.7mm for $20. Individually sold at art/stationary stores for $5-$10 each.
The metal version by Pentel: GraphGear 500: 4-pack of 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm and 0.9mm for $20. Individually sold at stores for $10-$20 each. They're okay, and people like the metal look, but I prefer the Staedtler.
The good stuff: rOtring. rOtring 600: $23. rOtring 800: $50.
I haven't tried the rOtring pencils myself; I've heard they're good, but I've been pretty happy with the Staedtlers. Although they're the cheapest I mentioned, they're also very comfortable and reliable. I've never had one fail (I have had Pentel pencils fail, including but not limited to the ones I linked), and I've been using them for years.
Make sure you get a decent mechanical eraser to go with them. A Tombow MONO zero in an amazing eraser for the details, and a Sanford Paper Mate Tuff Stuff is good for everything else. Buy an extra pack of the refills and you're good for a while. Note: Do not buy the Sanford eraser for more than $5. The price on Amazon right now is ridiculous. The Tombow is a little more pricy; $5-$10 is fair for it.
Sure.
Rhodia pads: Most people will mention these. Extremely smooth, very fountain pen friendly. So smooth, however, that inks like Noodler's Black that are formulated for crappy paper take forever to dry on it. They also come in books. Most people get used to the dots and never go back.
Clairefontaine: I'm not familiar but people mention them a lot and they seem like a very economical choice. I think they're more popular in Europe as school notebooks.
Midori: The Japanese don't mess around when it comes to writing. While basically naked compared to Leuchtturm or Moleskine, these have buttery smooth paper that while thin, feels fantastic to write on and doesn't bleed. There's a coveted cotton version (important because cotton is archival and good for watercolor) but I've never been able to track one down. It doesn't help that the online american outlets are poorly translated and usually don't know what they're packing since they look the same. See also: Apica
Leuchtturm 1917: A great journal or idea book, basically a Moleskine with better paper and perks. I used this as a daily journal. The pages are thin enough that you get ghosting especially with darker black inks but I write on both sides anyway.
If you're looking for a sketchbook I've spent a little too much time researching them and I think Stillman & Birn are really the one and only choice. Not only are they cheap by a price/sheet ratio but the quality is outstanding - extremely durable binding that tolerates being turned inside-out, thick paper with a variety of finishes so you can make a decision of what suits your medium. Epsilon or Gamma are the way to go for pure line ink work, though I've gotten away with light washes.
Hope this helps, enjoy your pen.
A good set of pens is really fun for creative types. Pentel SignPens (either these or these) are fantastic. Sakura and Stabilo make great ones as well. I like previously offered highlighter ideas and love my new see-through ones that I linked there. Also what about a set of sketch pencils?
What about some paracord and accessories for making guinea pig leashes? There are tons of sites that tell how to make them, she might be into it.
I also just recently got a little more into makeup and found an AMAZING set of cheap makeup brushes as a starter set - These and I'm actually getting them for my 18 yo niece for Christmas.
Best of luck!
Edit: If anyone is curious, everything looks pretty much the same after three years except the Squirt's anodizing is a little chipped up. Black leather dye, Lexol leather conditioner, and polishing compound helps to maintain the shiny look. Also maybe don't put your Benchmade in the washer/dryer - that is hard on the bead blast finishing and also really aggravating when you realize it is not just a metal button from your jeans making the noise.
Morning everyone! I thought I would be bummed to get back to work, but I'm actually really glad to be back to a routine. Left to my own devices, I sink into the couch with a knitting project and Netflix and never emerge. I was happy to get up, put on makeup, and feel like a human again.
One of my Christmas gifts was this Rocket Wave Notebook and I'm really liking it for work so far. I'm a huge note taker and list maker, and go through notepads like crazy. This is supposedly erasable and reusable so I'm excited to at least save some trees! :)
I'm glad it's a new year. No resolutions, just keeping on ketoing. I want to be in the 130s (firmly) for my wedding next month. And I'll be glad when that's done too!!! :)
I'd love to hear what other folks are using. Ideally, I'd like a case that can fit a total of 16-20 fountain pens, but hopefully with a smaller footprint. The 96-slot Global Art Leather Pencil Case is almost perfect... but they changed their design since I bought mine and they now have only one loop per slot instead of two. (I utilize both loops for smaller things, like pencil leads, wax stamps, etc.)
My current case contains the following items, but as you can see I'm just about out of room!
---
Side A: Pencils
---
---
Side B: Fountain Pens

If you want a TKL I have the Ducky Zero with reds for gaming and I'm very happy with it. Blue switches are probably nicer but we decided we're gonna go for the quieter ones for now (my partner has a Ducky Shine 3 with browns, those are really nice as well). If you don't need a number pad I would highly recommend a TKL, it's very comfortable and saves a surprising amount of space on your desk.
I would recommend this keyboard and this wrist pad - it comes a bit over £100 but it's well worth it. Or if OCUK has some deals running grab something else, the reviews are quite good there.
Not at all. It smears the writing a bit as it erases, then once you rub it enough, it turns completely clear/invisible.
I use these pens all day, every day and they have stood the test so far. I make a ton of mistakes usually when writing so these are a godsend.
10 Pack, retractable
12-color marker set
Highlighters + Eraser
And to top it off, my favorite: the microwavable 'smart notepad'.
Again, the ink turns clear at 140°, so this notebook allows you to write notes in the notebook with the Frixion pens/markers/highlighters and "reset" it by microwaving it for a few seconds. Best part is, you can scan the pages into perfect PDFs with their app. And you can mark the page to tell it where to save it to (email, Google Drive, Dropbox, local save, etc.) It finally started to break my habit of taking notes and never going back to them with this a couple months ago. I'm super psyched on them and I just wanna spread the gospel of Frixion 😃
I use and carry a Fischer Space Pen simply for how little space it takes up in my pocket. And, for a ballpoint, it writes pretty well and consistently. I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth out of it and have used it quite a bit. I will say to definitely buy the color/style you really want, be sure you’ll have this thing on you quite a bit if you buy one.
As for the pen that I actually use the most, I love Sharpie fine pens like these: https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Plastic-Point-Resistant-1742663/dp/B001B66DXU/ref=sr_1_4?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1549391560&sr=1-4&keywords=sharpie+pen
While a little pricier for a disposable pen, I find that they last for a good amount of time, the ink quality is fantastic and dries very quickly. I’m a lefty, so this is great for me so that I don’t get an inky-pinky at work. I can’t say the same for the Space Pen, as much as I like it, as it’s still a pressurized ball point.
For me, the feel is good. A bit mushy for about a week, but afterwards, if you can touch type, I'd say its perfect. The bumps do help a TON with tactility. As a high school senior, I've only written a couple long session papers on this but from my experience its really awesome. If i have one recommendation for this board for typing, i'd say get a wrist rest since it sits high in my opinion. I got the Grifiti fat wristrest and now I can game and type for hours. (: About 3 months into this combination and i really like it.
edit: like this! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FPDAU6Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-Mf5ybJMK5A67
First off, many of these things are intentionally cheap, because I do tend to break and/or lose things, so... Here goes.
All have Amazon links, because that was what was easiest.
Jewelry:
Right front pocket:
Left front pocket:
Wallet highlights:
Left back pocket:
Not shown:
The only real difference between this and the Not-At-Work Edition is the addition of a Springfield Armory XD Sub-Compact 9mm in bi-tone, a Crossbreed Supertuck holster (don't hate; I have had it for about 6 years, and my clips are actually from Theis Holsters because I got Kydex clips initially, and by the time I decided that metal was a better choice they had those crosses all over them), and the subtraction of the fobs for work.
I don't user nicer paper for everyday use because frankly, I go too it too much to be constantly buying more, but I do keep a couple of nice notebooks for special purposes.
Here are the links to the aforementioned:
Rhodia notepad (in hindsight I wish I'd bought the wirebound one, but I got mine from my university bookstore on sale along time ago).
Moleskine (you could probably get the same quality paper for cheaper btw, Moleskine is definitely nice but usually considered a tad overpriced for what it is).
No problem. It really isn't as hard as it looks. My best suggestions would be to first look at what you have, and really think about if you need it. Just not bringing things will save you way more weight than buying the lightest stuff.
After that, invest in a decent scale. It doesn't have to be too expensive. Just something that is accurate to atleast .1oz. Start weighing your stuff, and put it into a LighterPack list.
Once you've done that, and you feel like you've done your best to get your baseweight as low as you can, ask for a shakedown on here (instructions are in the sidebar as well). People will look over what you have and give you ideas on where to cut down.
I found it really helpful to just sit on this subreddit and read as much as I can. Even reading through other peoples shakedowns will give you an idea of things you could do to lose weight. Also, I like to read through a lighterpack whenever I see it. For example, my flair next to my name has mine. Reading through other peoples lists also gives you some great insight.
Best of luck and welcome to the wonderful world of gram counting ;)
I just had a similar discussion with a client!
Depending on what you wanna spend There are a number of choices.
For a sketch artist I'd steer clear of brands like Cross(Luxury writing utensils. Great products just not everyday art friendly)
I'd suggest a 2mm lead holder, some lead refills(4b, 2b, hb, 2h, 4h), a lead pointer, and a kneadable eraser or two.
Rotring makes some great products and even the more utilitarian Staedtler is a bifl and a great gift for an aspiring artist.
Edit: Also as a suggestion from an artist-Never anything in white if you can help it and a box of those foil pack Fingerbowl/wet wipes are quite a boon if they're a artist on the go. ;)
Hello! I got really into handlettering last year. What I did was buy some Duel Brush Pens and this set. The Duels are thicker strokes than the Fudenosuke ones. I recommend this beginner set as well, it even comes with a little workbook. Maybe start with just that to kind of dip your feet in a little. There are some good sites out there for practicing, I like Show Me Your Drills. They have printouts and daily practice sheets and such. I also highly recommend getting a pad of tracing paper from Michaels to place over the practice sheets, if only because it gives you endless room to keep practicing the same lines if you're so inclined and also the paper is much easier on the pens themselves. I also found Instagram a huge help. Looking through hashtags like #handlettering #brushpen #moderncalligraphy and related ones have SO many examples of different styles and plenty of videos where you can watch people writing to kind of get the hang of it! If you have any questions feel free to ask! I dove deep down the rabbit hole on this subject haha.
I've been using the Parker Jotter with an ink refill for a Fisher Space Pen (which includes an adapter) and I've found it to be a wonderful combination. The fisher space pen is a bit too small and slippery for me to use comfortably, and the Jotter has (in my opinion) a better aesthetic and a very satisfying click. The space pen refill writes very smoothly, the ink is indelible, and is much nicer to use than the standard Parker ink.
If you're really looking for a more minimal aesthetic, check out the pens sold by Muji. They are rather cheap, as well. That store in general tends toward a minimal aesthetic so they are worth checking out for other goods too.
Edit: This pen by Muji seems to be a pretty close fit to what you described. To my recollection, there's no branding on any of their pens.
Okay, so my recommendations are going to be based heavily on my personal experiences.
My two favorite "non-fountain pen" pens:
Best disposable gel pen: http://www.jetpens.com/Pentel-EnerGel-Euro-Needle-Point-Gel-Ink-Pen-0.5-mm-Black/pd/6265
Best disposable rollerball: http://www.jetpens.com/Morning-Glory-Mach-3-Roller-Ball-Pen-0.38-mm-Black/pd/11347
Now, I usually use fountain pens, because they're the best writing instrument. ;) So, how do you feel about starting to use fountain pens? They have so many advantages over traditional ballpoint/gel/rollerball pens. Let me know if you're interested and I can send over some starting recommendations.
And how do you feel about needlepoint pens like the two I linked above? I like them because they feel more precise on paper, and I also like the needle tip aesthetically over the traditional conical tip.
If you're not willing to purchase from an online retailer (No affiliation with Jetpens! Just a happy customer), I would suggest a Pilot Precise V5 or a Uniball Signo 207, both of which can be found for relatively cheap at Walmart and the like. The V5 is a solid rollerball that's super popular, for good reason. It's dependable, super smooth, and a buttery writer. The Uniball is very similar to the G2, but I find it to be much smoother. So maybe you can give either of these a shot?
http://www.amazon.com/uni-ball-Retractable-Translucent-12-Pack-33950/dp/B000FDR47E
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Precise-Stick-Rolling-Extra/dp/B00006IEBI
Other people may recommend a Parker Jotter or a Fischer Space Pen, but I HATE ballpoint pens. But if that's your thing, give it a shot. These two are more permanent pens which you'll refill.
Tombow Dual Brush is great ‘large brush’ for beginners. I would say first do lots of practice with small brush pens and then move to ink and nibs. Tombow Fudenosuke ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M71S9DU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2pv3AbQ543M8T ) or Pentel Sign Pen ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EN0HCH6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_qGOz3EhHHfH49 ) are great small pen options. And when you feel ready for upgrade, hunt 513 nib and sumi black ink would be great.
Nibs - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BYT4DE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rtv3AbPZNAD77
Pen Holder - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BYU1BI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Utv3AbJBGTJV4
Sumi Ink - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AMLR8M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.tv3AbBVQG8T2
Hope this will be helpful!
Wow. I hate to say this, but this is a classic case of why a nobody should ever sign a legal document without a lawyer reading it first. Trust but verify.
The good news is, if you have been doing 50/50 shared since 2011, you can easily get this changed. (at least, in my state you can.)
Get a spiral bound notebook (not looseleaf--spiral bound or a hardback journal like a Moleskine) and begin recording a journal. Write down the dates that you pick her up, the dates that you drop her off with BM. Write down all the events that you attend with SD ("you"= Husband moreso that you specifically in this circumstance) and note if BM was there or not. Don't speculate what she was doing or make any comments about her behavior. Just note if she was there or not.
Build up a document with 6-8 months of documentation (better yet, a year) for the custody, and you can go back to court for an amendment. You can make the case to the judge that this has been the pattern of custody and visitation since 2011. Request a modification of the custody to reflect the default. Most judges will accept that modification because it is already what the two parents are doing.
If you can look back on your calendar and "rebuild" a journal going back 3-4 months or longer, you won't have to wait the full year to accumulate enough documentation.
Amen OP. I'd struggled with the craft of writing until I started writing by hand.

I love the way it forces me to rewrite. As in not being able to just delete a word or two and continue on, which makes the page look messy. I stated rewriting sentences, just to change a word, and rewriting paragraphs just to change a sentence. It made it all flow so much better.

My hand writing was laughably terrible just a few years ago, but one year and almost 300,000 words later it's actually respectable - I get compliments on it all the time.

I also find it helps with writers block. If I can't figure out what to write next, or if I don't like what I wrote, but don't know how to fix it, I just go back and start rewriting, just working on copying the same words as neatly and carefully as I can. And before you know it, I'm off again.

OP, others, what do you write with? I'm a huge fan of the Sharpie fine point.
Here's some things I like that I've ordered for myself that would be good in a gift box.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009E6J52U/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_4 The super sticky notes
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00016AU3K/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A017459625RX007BJKRR6 KAva Stres Relief Tea
http://www.amazon.com/International-Arrivals-Neon-Gelly-Sticks/dp/B00FFIIFH2/ref=pd_rhf_sc_p_img_5 Gel Hilighters
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FDR47E/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_6 (I love these gel pens)
And I'd add a bunch of notecards, empty folders, maybe some advil, and a cute badge holder.
I most certainly do, especially if you have any friends who like fps and ink: Pilot Blue/Black in the 'coke bottle'. You can get this for around $22.00 for 350ml (you read that right) and that is for a remarkably good ink that is even fairly waterproof. If you split the bottle with friends, you can end up with the absolute best ink value on the planet. I got into this ink because pen restoration people I know use it, and they use a lot of ink and it can't be a problem ink. Give it a look.
I think this organizer is pretty amazing. Its all elastic cords woven together and you can stick all kinds of things in there and they are secure. It's great for travel because it can hold all of your chargers and small devices, pens and pads of paper, various office supplies, whatever you need to do. And you can just throw it in your briefcase, purse, or carry on and everything is secure and organized. Love it!
I recommend a credit card holder like this for sock drawer cards.
As far as the CSP, wait until the annual fee posts, then call to either cancel or PC it to a no annual fee card like the Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Unlimited (both of which have ways to earn bonus points). The annual fee will be refunded if you PC within 30-41 days.
Also, if you don't have any other premium Chase cards such as CSR or CIP, then make sure you transfer out any UR to any transfer partners before getting rid of the CSP.
Diamine, tons of colors and are affordable (especially in Europe) many colors are dupes of more expensive inks out there. They likely make ink for other companies that sell ink but don't have ink manufacturing capabilities, like Akkerman. They have a lot of great colors, but their water resistance is generally low.

Noodler's would be the ton's of colors and affordable US company but he's a 1 man show so people don't have much faith in him combined with his political views he's one of the more controversial company/people in the fountain pen world. He seems to experiment with inks and ink properties so he has some interesting water resistant colors and UV glowing colors out there.

I like water resistant inks so I'm a fan of Pilot Blue and Blue Black, Platinum Blue Black, Platinum Classic Iron Gall series, Platinum Pigment ink series, and Sailor Nano-pigment Seiboku and Souboku.

If you're looking for great bang for buck blue ink, I would buy a 350ml Pilot Blue Black bottle for 20 something dollars. But you'll need another bottle to put that into, so either an empty bottle or another bottle of a nicely shaped Pilot Blue Black.
I started with these Fudenosuke pens, which are super cheap on Amazon. If you're looking for a wide variety of color, but still a pretty easy-to-use pen, check out these as well. The trick is to find a pen that has a stiffer tip. The softer brush pens are trickier to learn on, but it can be done. I like the black Fudenosuke pens because they are pretty similar, but the blue one has a harder tip and the green one has a bit more give. It should be able to help you transition into using softer brush tips!
There are tons of great options, the Parker Jotter I can definitely recommend. I've never had any leakage issues with the stock ink cartridge it came with but I also normally switch it out for a Fisher Space Pen refill.
Other good metal pens that aren't too expensive might be a Cross Click which is my current edc with a Fisher Space Pen refill in it which is great for signing receipts and quick things like that. I use it at work to give to customers to sign their receipts.. I like it because it is skinnier than the Parker Jotter, however, it is easier to accidentally click in your pocket whereas with the Jotter you have to use an intentional amount of force to click it.
Another one (or two) would be the Fisher Bullet Space Pen or the Cap-O-Matic Space Pen. The bullet is really quite compact and the Cap-O-Matic is a regular sized pen.
And if you're really worried about ink leakage in your pocket then you can get something like a Lamy Swift which has a mechanism so that when the tip of the pen is extended, the pocket clip retracts which makes it impossible to clip onto your pocket. One thing to keep in mind with the Lamy Swift is that it comes with a rollerball refill which is incredibly smooth but it puts out more ink than a regular ballpoint so it has a longer drying time and can smear on receipt paper.
S Pro looks awesome. I have a model down from that, the QuickFire Rapid with brown switches. Amazing keyboard.
I would highly recommend getting a grifiti wrist rest for it. It fits perfectly with this keyboard form factor and makes typing a lot more comfortable.
No problem! This is my favorite. I should add that while they’re a bit more expensive than your regular notebook/notepad, they’re totally worth it. The paper is really good quality... and of course there’s the delightful dot grid! If you try them out, I hope you like them as much as I do 😊
I never used baron fig, but I've used tomoe river paper. I love the
Pilot Precise V5 RT Retractable Rolling Ball https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CDW4BZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_OG2FybW075H1E but it might be on the inky side that it will dry quick but leave shadowing on the other side of the page.
Another love is Uni-Ball Signo 207 Retractable Gel Pen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FDR47E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jL2Fyb3PXX1K1 but gel ink can get smudgy if you don't let it dry.
Also when looking at pens, keep in mind point size. I like medium to fine because I'll write small, but you'll want larger if you write big.
Really good work.
If I can give some suggestions, I know mechanical pencils are kind of ubiquitous in schools, but I would try drawing more with thicker leads. Wooden pencils, woodless pencils, or staedtler mechanical pencils will help you with form and depth. Also using different lead types can help you in the long run. You seem to have a heavy hand (or really dark lead, going to guess it's 2B), playing around with 2H lead might help you save more time of drawing and erasing. (If you want more info let me know, I'm going to stop here because I feel like I'm rambling).
Keep at it, and never fall into the trap of being insecure about your work.
Interesting challenge! Of course, EDC depends on your personal needs and I'm going to assume you're in the US since you're making the challenge in Dollars. Unless informed otherwise I'm going to assume I don't need to buy a watch.

I don't know of any starter packs on Amazon, although you can get them from Goulet, so you'd probably have to do it piece by piece. Amazon also doesn't tend to have the best prices on fountian pens and accessories and isn't known for packaging inks super securely, so that's worth considering as well. From Amazon I would recommend a Pilot Metropolitan (too many Safaris on amazon are fake), a bottle of either Pelikan 4001 or Pilot Iroshizuku ink, and a Rhodia pad
This is what I end up getting, its a bit bulky but definitely good quality. Perfectly fits my blade & charger, deathader mouse, mouse pad and a GRID-IT. Also has a molle system for pouches if you'd like.
These are stupidly amazing. I kept seeing them mentioned everywhere, so I decided to pick one up (plus a sharpener which they call 'lead pointer' and some different grade leads). I don't think I'll ever use another pencil again unless I need a specific grade they don't make.
These have a nice weight in your hand, you can sharpen them to a needle tip easily without ever experiencing any breakage, you can turn them on their side to shade large areas, you don't have to deal with wood shavings, and the graphite is super high quality and always constant.
I've purchased 3 more since that first one.
Also a good tip: the lead refills come with differently colored caps (2B is purple, HB black, etc). You can pull the original cap off a pencil and replace it with the color cap of the lead you're going to put in it, so you always know which pencil hosts which grade lead.
For your use, a notebook would be a lot better for the note taking part. I recommend this one, along with one of these.
As for the browsing reddit and general internet use, the 7 is pretty awesome. I love mine so far.
Accuteck scales on Amazon are pretty popular around here. It's useful to have one where the LCD screen can be moved away from the scale (for when you have large boxes). I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=sxin_5_ac_d_pm?ac_md=2-1-QmV0d2VlbiAkMjUgYW5kICQ1MA%3D%3D-ac_d_pm&keywords=shipping+scale&pd_rd_i=B00KYA0RC2&pd_rd_r=d8ca9b1f-d86a-4264-bd5e-d2db980ab1a3&pd_rd_w=Bg3hS&pd_rd_wg=PA9Uw&pf_rd_p=aed08533-d0f3-456a-bfcd-3ec60fc417c9&pf_rd_r=5PNA399EWXFBFQ99B9TT&psc=1&qid=1569514644&s=gateway
Don't spend too much time on a business plan. It's more important to get some practice at actually selling things. Good luck!
Lots of people love the Staedtler stylus (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N31S7C) ... I think it's pretty neat but I'm not a fan of carrying extra shit around, so mine stays next to my bed 24/7.
I did pick up a GearVR and ... ehhhh... some people love it but I just am not impressed by the quality of the games available nor by the quality of most 360 YouTube videos. I mean you can pay $8 for a game that nobody would play for FREE if it weren't for the novelty of wearing your phone on your face.
Otherwise, it depends what you want to do, maybe get one of those attachable lenses to enhance the camera. Maybe get a case that can hold a couple of credit cards and cash so that you can try to go without a wallet.
I am digging the fact that you like spicy stuff! I put Sriracha on everything :) It goes amazing on Papa John's Chicken and Olive pizza. I saw a lot of the cute stuff in your office section of your wishlist and I think that you would like Moleskine Notebook. These notebooks are handy and help organize your daily life with notes, ideas, and appointments.
I checked out the prices on Amazon after I fell in love with the Model 800 - I may have to allocate part of my next student grant funds towards one! My days of drafting/charting are long gone, but I still appreciate a good writing/drawing instrument :) p.s it's Ms :)
Oh my god yes the Klipsch sound system is incredible! Since my board also has a integrated sound card they sound absolutely insane I was really impressed as I was looking for sound systems to buy online when my friend offered to sell me the Klipsch. As for the keyboard great choice! That was actually my first keyboard and I absolutely loved it! Mx browns are by far the best all round switch there is, it has the tactile feedback that blues do but not so clicky. Since the TK doesnt have a wristpad go with one of these! - http://www.amazon.com/Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Keyboards-Steelseries-Notebooks/dp/B00FPDAU6Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409531997&sr=8-2&keywords=grifiti+fat+wrist+pad
Also if you're interested here's where I got my Trigger-Z - http://www.cmstore-usa.com/cm-storm-trigger-z-fully-backlit-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-with-cherry-mx-brown-keyswitches/
I've used this one
and this one
Personally I like the first one better. The bigger base is very nice. edit: you need to consider the size of the packages you're weighing. I need a scale that will measure heavy packages, the first one is better for that sort of thing. For general purpose ebay selling I'd get a scale that measures up to say 50lb, that should be good enough. Or maybe 2 scales, one for small stuff and one like the 2 I listed for heavy packages.
Every time I post a drawing, I always get a couple of PMs with people asking me what I use to draw. For my le'reddit doodles, I keep it pretty simple:
Oh see now that would be nice. I found this, which is nice enough, but it looks like you just put the comics in there in a group. But if you could have each comic in its own sleeve, that would make it very easy for you to dig through and find the one you want. Especially useful if you're in the middle of a series and don't want a bunch of books spread all over the coffee table.
For sketching, I use a Staedtler Mars 780 and to get it to the sharpness I like, I use a Staedtler Rotary
For inking, I mainly use Pigma Microns, but also like using other brands such as Kurutake Zig or Staedtler pigment liners, all of which I'm sure you can find at your local art store
Hope that helps!
Snapping Android windows came out last week in Chrome OS 65 😁
I can't say for certain because I haven't used a Wacom pad recently, but I believe Chrome OS does support them natively. Swear i tried one on my old Cr-48 I think. Just buy from somewhere with a return policy and try one out!
I've had trouble finding docks with 2 USB C female ports (same for battery packs), seems to just be because of the times. In the future I'm sure they'll exist.
Finally as a side note, if you're into using the stylus (on your Chromebook screen), someone on Reddit once suggested this, and it's pretty awesome: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N31S7C
I'll interpret "guy stuff" as "EDC stuff".
Bonus item: This isn't under $30, but $45 wil buy you a Leatherman Skeletool, which is one of the most universally useful items I own.
Edit: "EDC" stands for Every Day Carry. To paraphrase the /r/EDC sidebar, EDC means the essentials that I carry a daily basis. Things that I either use every day, or want to have with me in case I might need them. Sorry for the confusion, /u/ForgottenEcho and /u/Sanctitas.
Haha, pretty much. Heavy glass soda style bottles. 11.83 ounces so nearly the same as a can of soda. Inked up forever for $22!

They're not fancy inks but I keep over 20 pens inked so I use primarily safe and simple inks these days... and I just love the flow and feel of Pilot's inks.
Happy Zambambo!
This organizer would help a ton.
I hope you have a great day!!
The Jetstream is a great choice. Another great one that my lefty friends like is the Sharpie Pen -- it dries instantly and does not smear (these: https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Pens-Fine-Point-Black/dp/B001B66DXU/ )
Pilot's line of basic colors (Black, Blue-Black, and Blue) are among some of the best standard colors ever.
I'm a fan of Pilot Blue-BLack: https://www.amazon.com/Ink-350ml-INK350BB-japan-import/dp/B001P35A74
It's $23, but per mL of liquid, it's great (about 6 cents per mL).
It behaves well on cheap paper, is reasonably water resistant, shades, and flows well.
i asked my brother for these. i also own an assortment of these in a bunch of different colours. and these black ones. I got most of mine from Curry's which is a store here in Canada (I don't know if they ship elsewhere, sorry!) but I know Michaels has brush pens as well :) I always tend to check out instagrammers to see what pens they're using. This woman uses a wide range of them, it says what the pen is in the comment of the vid. If you're looking into learning how to brush pen she also sells worksheets. Have fun!! If you have any other q's lemme know
How about a Zebra F701 and add a Fisher Space Pen refill. The pen body is well built and pretty cheap and the refill is literally good enough to write in space. For something more classy you can get a Parker Jotter which also fits the space pen refill but has a pretty good refill itself.
The TWSBI Diamond 580AL is a great pen, piston filler and demonstrator for £58.99. That would also give you about £11 free for some ink and maybe a Rhodia dot pad staplebound or wirebound.
If you wanted to get a couple of inks and writing pad then you could go for the slightly cheaper TWSBI Diamond 580RB £46.99 leaving you £23 to spend on ink and paper.
If you wanted to push the £70 to the limit and just get a classy pen with a solid 18kt gold nib for £72.72. It wouldn't leave you anything over for ink or writing pads but it would be a classy pen.
The other option would be to go the cheap fountain route and buy 2 or 3 Jinhao X450's off Amazon or eBay, they typically sell for around £6-10 each, then you have a lot more to spend on ink and writing pads. If you go the Jinhao route then I would avoid the 250 range, they are fine nibs as opposed to the 450 medium nibs, and my experience are the fine nibs tend to be quite scratchy and I had one where the nib just wouldn't friction fit into the pen. I have 5x Jinhao X450's and not had a single problem with any of them.
HELLO JOURNAL BUDDY, i also have a journal cover from them, albeit it a griffin on it. BECAUSE GRIFFON IS THE OBVIOUS CHOICE.
Anyway, you can use any of the standard “moleskein-size” journal. You can easily get an actual moleskein in lined paper, [like so] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/8883701127/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1526966631&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=moleskine+notebook&dpPl=1&dpID=41fxhUdMTNL&ref=plSrch) but they are pretty expensive since they’re the most popular name brand. you also can get knockoff versions that are cheaper and just as good. piccadilly is a perfectly fine brand.
also pro tip, if you get one with an elastic band, no worries, just cut if off. that’s what i did for mine when i put a bullet journal-type book in it.
I would say it depends on where they are going. The safest answer is to get them Fisher Space Pens and Field Notes Expedition Editions.

The space pen will write anywhere, upside down or high/low altitudes because of the pressurized refills.

The FN Expeditions are plasticish paper that is water, rip and acid proof. They come in a 3 pack so 2 packs would be best.

If they are not going anywhere crazy, simple Uni-Ball Signo 207 is a perfectly fin and inexpensive pen. And you can get them at a store usually.

Then as far as notebooks go i would still go with Field Notes, their regular notebooks would work fine.
The Power Company has a process journal that could work well for what you are looking for.
I use a black moleskin journal to keep track of my progress, this is the one I bought off amazon.
I write my focus for the day, the drills or workouts that I do, how the session is going, particular things that I noticed while climbing, strength training exercises (sets and reps), my start and end times for my climbing and workouts (It is nice to track how much time you spend at the gym each week, and what portion is time spent climbing vs. strength training).
I don't write the individual climbs/grades that I do. I don't see much of a point to this, as gym grades are not very consistent and they aren't up for that long. When I am outdoors, I write every route that I climb.
I also tried keeping notes in a spreadsheet on my phone, but I like writing better, and it keeps me off of my phone while training.

Worked great with my Note 8... all 2 hours until I put it in my back pocket walking to a meeting... then sat down.
Pro Tip- don’t put in back pocket...
Was able to epoxy the parts together, but it was never the same... a bit bent feeling and weakened at the repair points.
FYI: the body of the pencil is just like a normal pencil (even with a lead like center). It only the area that looks like a sharpened pencil tip that has the S-Pen -parts

Did 5 weeks last year with the Farpoint 40 because I was looking to avoid all issues with my luggage.
Carry right on flights, wear it around for hours if needed, climbing stone steps without dragging traditional luggage, keep my hands free, etc.
Worked perfect if you're going for minimal packing and maximum activity potential.
As far as what to pack, I kept my electronics/cables/GoPro set-up organized with a GridIt, and otherwise just packed like 6-7 underwear, 6-7 socks, 4-5 shirts, 1 nice shirt, 1 sweater (for Switzerland), jeans, and shorts. Easy.
Also brought a daypack. Tiny backpack to keep water, sunscreen, etc. in for hikes and longer days out.
Definitely bag and board your books, I use a basic binder that zips shut though these were recently recommended to me. On books that you want signed a trick I've picked up is to bag and board it but cut a hole in the front of the bag marked with colored tape, that way it's signed where you want it.
As to who charges for autographs, this tends to vary. In my experience big names (Sterenko, Lee, Claremont etc.) charge anywhere from $10 to $100 where lots of others don't charge at all or ask for donations to charities they support. Roy Thomas signed several of my books for $10 at a conference I went to back in March.
As to grading, I personally do not slab my books because I still love to read them, even my old silver age stuff, though I am considering getting my Stan Lee signed books graded. I would talk to a rep at the convention about the cost and turnaround time.
The most popular option would be the rOtring 800.
Though TWSBI Precision could be a cheaper alternative (I haven't hold one of this, so I can't say how heavy/sturdy it feels)
Maybe you could be interested in a lead holder as well? I personaly love my Staedtler 2.0mm Silver Series if line weight is not an issue at least.
After your suggestions my current amazon cart for her is:
Calligraphy: A Beginner's Guide to Pointed Pen and Brush Pen Lettering
Hand Lettering for Relaxation: An Inspirational Workbook for Creating Beautiful Lettered Art
Strathmore 300 Series Drawing Pad, Medium Surface, 9"x12" Glue Bound, 50 Sheets
Rhodia No.16 A5 6 x 8 1/4 80 Sheet, Dot Pad.
Tombow 56191 Advanced Lettering Set.
Pilot Parallel Pen 2-Color Calligraphy Pen Set, with Black and Red Ink Cartridges in 2.4mm Nib size and 3.8mm Nib size with extra 12 assorted colors cartridges and 12 black cartridges. I assume the cartridges are not dependent on nib size as that would be infuriatingly stupid. Only dependent on the brands pen circumference? Correct me if I am wrong on that.
Hopefully that's pretty comprehensive but as far as speedball goes these are the texts I've found:
Speedball Textbook 24th Edition for $8.67.
Speedball Textbook: For Pen and Brush Lettering, 20th Edition for $113.35.
The Speedball Textbook, a comprehensive Guide to Pen and Brush Lettering, 23rd, Twenth-Third Edition for $51.01 new.
Did you have a specific edition in mind? A lot of the ones I'm seeing on amazon vary greatly as shown above.
I haven't used that one specifically, but I have been using this one recently, and I like it pretty well. I had one of those generic gel ones before, and it also worked well.
You're buying waterman ink and a $15 pen in this equation which is absurd. Cheap pens need to compared to cheap pens.
Let's say you buy a $2 Jinhao from eBay, free shipping, in an EF nib, including a converter, and then buy this $22 350 mL blue ink from Amazon.
It's 7 times the ink for twice the price, which is 3.5 times the value on ink. Plus, in an EF, you're writing a line more comparable to the .05 line of normal cheap pens, while putting far less ink down on the paper, which could mean that you use half or even less of the ink than you described. That 350 mL bottle would last forever. And the total cost for basically a lifetime of writing is $24.
The lie we tell ourselves is that we can save money by buying the pens and inks we WANT to use. We don't, it's a fantastic waste. But at its core there is truth to the economic upside of a refillable pen.
Jinhao 599 are the ones that look like safaris,
Jinhao 599A are the ones that look like vistas,
Wing sung 6359 are the ones that look like Al stars.

I use this SteelSeries Mousepad, and I absolutely love it 100%. It's high quality, has a great feel, and is the perfect thickness for me. For your setup, I'm actually thinking you could rock an XL pad that goes under both your mouse and keyboard. While SteelSeries does have a couple basic XL and XXL mousepads, you could always get a Corsair pad, or go and get yourself something RGB. Totally see where you're coming from in terms of not finding any that you like. I know that you can probably get one custom made, or something with a design that complements your case/controller color schemes. Just a couple ideas to get you started, but I feel like it will end up being a simple, yet highly impactful, addition to your setup.
I use a two wallet system.
There just isn't(or haven't found) a wallet that will hold all 13 of my active cards without being bulky.
So I have this for mass storage, 19 cards, two pockets for cash/MO.

Sure. This pen is amazing ergonomically and hella cheap (shaped much like rotring with knurled grip and stainless steel construction), BUT: it has two drawbacks. One is the awful stock ink that smudges, and the other is the plastic clicky that squeaks. So, several posters took it upon themselves to remedy these problems.
Firstly, everything on the pen is metal except for one part of the pen; the retractable "clicker" - weird, right? The plastic parts make it squeak whenever you bring the pen in or out. Thankfully, another zebra pen DOES have the metal clicker! The rest of the pen's construction is not much to write home about, but that's unimportant. You just need that metal clicker construction.
Secondly, the ink. The stock ink is pretty bad and is prone to smudging. Once again, thankfully, the fisher space pen insert will fit once you remove a small plastic part at the front of the f-701.
An anon that I think posts here made a walkthrough of the mod process here, so if you follow it you will yourself become the very owner of a Space Zebra F-7401!
This will leave you with a great fully metal pen that also has an ergonomic knurled grip and that makes use of the pressurized space ink!
upvoting in hopes others add to this.
Here's mine. As a student i have a courses notebook. each class gets a section. Each semester of classes get a section group. Thats the hierarchy. I too use a surface with the pen. when i get to class i pull out the tablet, launch ON with a click of a pen, if its not already open and add a new page. ill write down what is being taught while simultaneously recording audio for anything i may have missed. after class or at the end of the day ill go back and rename the day's page and might highlight some of the key points from the lecture. if the teacher passes out any papers, ill take a quick snap with Office Lens and file them with ON. I don't like holding on to papers so they get tossed. and thats pretty much it. Every thing just gets either written, sent to, saved in, or printed to ON and filed to the proper notebook to keep for ever.
I'm sure the venue should suffice for your note taking need. your method of note taking is completely yours. whether its web, outline, bullet journal or any of the many other ways. My question is are you using the app or the desktop version of ON? that might be the difference maker for you. and if you do know the difference and use your preferred version, than perhaps it is the device and possibly consider the surface.
And if its how tablet writing feels in general than perhaps you might consider this https://www.amazon.com/Rocketbook-WAV-S-Wave-Smart-Notebook/dp/B01GU6TINM/ref=pd_ybh_a_22?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NZC9YFC01AY4TFQ15C8P
its a notebook that you can use with an app to upload to any of your preferred note applications and when you're done with the page, pop it into the microwave and the ink erases like magic.
Best of luck op
Does anyone know how to get a rotring 800 with metal internals? I'd like another one, as mine is the plastic sort. The lead inside keeps breaking and I've heard the run with metal internals doesn't have this issue.
I found a vendor on Amazon that claims the internals are all metal. They're also running a sale, so it'd be great. Any idea if I can trust that?

I'm this way as well. I genuinely feel much more efficient in pre-writing when I use paper and pen. I can quickly shuffle between pages, I have all my own symbols and colors/highlights that allow me to put it all together when the time comes.
Even with dual-monitors, it doesn't feel fluid enough for me to switch between screens/programs when writing. That being said, looking at other post's in here, Scrivener seems rather useful.
Also, this could be something you might benefit from: https://www.amazon.com/Rocketbook-WAV-S-Wave-Smart-Notebook/dp/B01GU6TINM
In this report you should include:
Purchase a notebook. A lot will happen, many conversations, and so-on. You will never keep it all straight in your memory.
This may seem like a lot of work and trouble to go through. It is. But it's nothing compared to the stress and nightmare you could go through if you don't.
I have the exact same CaseLogic bag, but I only carried it for about 6 months. It was super awkward, and if you forget to do up the little Velcro zipper stop tags, the whole front of the bag can come open and dump your stuff all over. I had a rolling bag for a bit, but it annoyed me, since I travel a lot of non-paved or cobblestone places, and I felt like it was bouncing things around.
My hubs finally convinced me to invest a little (less than $100 on sale) in an Epiphanie bag, which doesn't look like a camera bag at all, gets no second glances when I travel, and works as a functional carrying piece when I don't have my cameras. That, in conjunction with one of these, has done a lot to focus my gear list and travel style.
To note, I've been trying to streamline the amount of stuff I carry when I travel, and only bust out the big cargo stuff when I do stationary shoots. I find that carrying a bunch of stuff distracts from my enjoyment, as I spend more time worrying about the right equipment than just simply framing and shooting. It helps that some of the best shots I have are on my phone, from when I didn't have my gear at all. :)
I would suggest buying a stor-folio. They are PERFECT for carrying books at conventions. Here is a link
Also, be aware of the market on certain books. eBay is your friend. Use it to your advantage when dealing with dealers. If they have a book priced at $400 and you can buy one in the same condition on eBay for $250, bring that to their attention. Conventions always have inflated prices.
Yeah no prob. I'll put them in this order: Lead Holder (very dark), sharpener (needs special sharpener, trust me you really need it), GraphGear, Copics, Chameleon, fine liners (I'll put the ones I use, but Micron's are a little more expensive option for better quality).

Dunno if this one works with onenote but it's reusable which is nice.
I plastic screen protector might help the feel of the SP3 but it's never going to feel like paper when it's not. You just get used to it.
Hi! I can’t speak for the quality of those specific pens but I think Pentel is a good brand. I can say that their sign brush pens are very nice quality. I got mine from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EN0HCH6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sXXUDbPVEZ6T6
These are different than the felt markers because these are basically smaller brush pens.
Sharpie pens are the best. I write a LOT for work, and it's so enjoyable to write with. Doesn't bleed through the paper, yet still gives a nice, confident line. Not to mention you can get one for under $1.
Edited to add: Amazon link
Oh! If you're interested in Pilot's Blue Black, on Amazon there's a 350mL version in a glass bottle imported from Japan that works out to be great value for money. Here
I hightly recommend the CM Quickfire Rapid to anyone knew to the mechanical keyboard world. They are built very well. They don't go for the 'Gamer' look and just offer a solid keyboard. They are available from most big retailers (most high level mechs are not). They offer a lot of the perks of premium mech boards, without the higher price as you can often find them for pretty cheap ($50 - $80). The only real downside to them, is the key caps. They are pretty cheap, but odds are if you're buying a mechanical keyboard, you plan on customizing them anyways. Which the QFR lends itself very well to. Some keyboards (like the K65) have some keys that are not standard size. This makes it a little more difficult to customize.
Need a wrist wrest? Look no further than the Griffiti Tenkeyless. It may fray a little, but support is very good and it's comfy. As opposed to other brands that offer cheap plasic ones.
At the bottom left, stuff I have on my person more or less all the time:
2nd gen Moto 360 with [Skymaster face]
OnePlus Two with a tempered glass screen protector
Coleman knife with glass breaker
Pilot G2
Wallet which is actually a business card case since I mostly carry cards
Car keys
And contents of my backpack:
XPS 13
Jaybird X2 great for biking but not so great for using for 8 hours in an office
Bose QC35 great for using for 8 hours in an office but not so great for biking
Primula cold brew bottle pictured here brewing tomorrow's coffee
Rhodia Dotpad
KMASHI 15,000 mAh powerbank with USBC and micro cables
Disposable Earplugs that I keep a pair of everywhere since they come in a pack of 20
Knockoff Aviator Sunglasses that I bought in high school for $10 and somehow still haven't broken
I like the Gritifi Fat. Pretty cheap, and comfortable. I'd say it's about the right height for my Pro S as well.
The Easy flow 9000 is very good as stated by another redditer, however I personally like the fine space pen refill which comes with an adapter to fit parker pens.
A little higher on the price range you mentioned but I've enjoyed the Pilot Precise V5 line of pens. They come in a variety of colours, pack sizes, and they're fine pointed which I fine handy in my line of work where I have to take a lot of notes in a day.
Pilot Precise V5 RT Retractable Rolling Ball Pens, Extra Fine Point, Black Ink, Dozen Box -26062
sweet! Fisher Space Pen SPR4F Black Fine Point Pressurized Refill https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Z7WVZK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BxVACb0Q9KC8B
i love the idea of having my bullet-style space pen for EDC, but I’m really excited to make it actually happen with the fine point refill.
this journal would help so much with my hikes... I document Invasive species as a volunteer and having a handy little place to jot down coordinates would be PERFECT
Thanks for the contest
If you're using them in poor conditions: Fisher Space Pen, or a pen that will accept a Fisher refill. I carry this Parker Jotter because it matches my Hero 100 Flighter, equipped with this Fisher refill.
However, just saying you want a ballpoint pen is a pretty big request. Gel, rollerball and ballpoint pens are all... ballpoint pens. Different ones will come with different inks.
Uniball Jetstreams are good, as are Pilot G2s. Personally, though, the Retro 51 Tornado is an absolutely fantastic pen. It's more expensive by a wide margin than the Jotter. It's a much thicker pen, though, so if you have larger hands it's much more comfortable than a Fisher or Parker. And, unlike a lot of pens out there, the refills are both fantastic and affordable.
So. I would say: Get a Jotter and slap a Fisher Space Pen refill in it. Then, if you want to get another nice ballpoint, get yourself a Retro 51 Tornado. Then get a fountain pen. Avoid Zebra. I love my G-301s, but goddamn, those refills are expensive and don't get any mileage at all.
This may be a
triggerrabbit hole for some but I absolutely stand by my day-to-day work pen. Pilot Precise V5 RT. It's a thing of beauty; writes a sharp black line, comfortable grip, retractable so I can click it incessantly. They may not last a lifetime like fountain pens or whatever, but they blow my standard office's pens out of the water. For those looking to organize their sock drawers a bit better, I've been very happy with this holder: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UBNWLB2
The only downside is that it doesn't have any tabs or anything for quickly turning to a particular "group" of cards, so I just used some sticky notes. It has a great feel to it after it's loaded up and I'll probably need a second one real soon now.
I mostly sell clothing. But I do occasionally sell electronics and glassware. Now that I've gotten pretty good at estimating weight on clothing, I don't weigh them until I actually go to ship. I know that a pair of jeans is almost always going to be over 16oz, so it will go priority mail... etc.
Here's the scale I have (and LOVE)... it can run off batteries or plug into the wall, and is on sale for $17 - https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-Digital-Shipping-Postage-W-8250-50BS/dp/B00SMHWZ42/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1466110683&sr=8-3&keywords=shipping+scale
You can order free priority mail shipping supplies on the usps.com website. My favorite is the flat rate bubble mailer, it's under $6 to ship regardless of weight. The small flat rate is also a good one. The medium/large flat rates are only good if it's your cheapest option. If you are mailing a 3-4 pound item across the country, flat rate will be cheaper... but if it's going just a short distance it's probably cheaper to mail it based on weight. ALWAYS ship first class if it weighs under 16oz, it's much cheaper. I buy padded bubble mailers in bulk on amazon/ebay, and they end up costing around 20-25 cents each. When I worked as an office manager, I had to routinely take items up to the UPS store to mail and they charge an arm and a leg for their boxes and shipping supplies. Also, UPS probably isnt your best option on most items. I've only had to ship FedEx twice, because the items were very bulky/heavy. Other than that, I exclusively use USPS first class and priority mail.
AFAIK, insurance is free for up to $50. I rarely purchase insurance if the item sells for more than that, because most of my inventory is clothing and I pay very little for my items. If you're shipping electronics, I would probably splurge and pay extra to get them insured.
I'd say re-stocking with items.
Boxes: If you live in a building, use the ones people throw away that you can find in the basement or go around your neighborhood and get some from the curb. I also like to reuse Amazon mailers.
Label printer: At an entry level, it's probably most cost effective to use the printer you already have or to buy a cheap laser printer like a Brother HL-L2300D that you can use to also print other stuff.
Scale: You can buy one for Amazon for ~$20-30, so I'd definitely say buy one if you don't already have one, as buying USPS (especially) labels of the correct weight via ebay/PayPal is cheaper than paying retail at the post office.
I love the way the flamed titanium wears! All the little snail trails give it a ton of character. Yeah, I lost the pen and a sebenza at the same time. They were both in a pocket slip I made, and the slip slipped right out of my pocket without me knowing. Bad day lol. Here is a link to a fine point black refill
https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Space-Pen-SPR4F-Pressurized/dp/B000Z7WVZK
Thanks! Honestly, the pen I write with the most is the Pilot Precise V5 RT. It's been my favorite writing tool so far but the grip, while comfortable, tends to hang up in the inside of my pockets. The Jotter is my go-to pen for portability.
I agree, a nice zipper pouch like this or a nice leather journal
Cocoon Grid-It organizer. It's rather cheap and especially useful if you use different bags like a messenger bag for school and a backpack for a bit longer travels. You can easily attach stuff you need once in a while to the grid and just throw it to another bag.
Currently my grid-it contains a USB-stick, couple cables, one of those Victorinox card multitools, a powerbank and a pen. When I'm traveling overnight I add a toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste. 5/5 would buy again.
Edit: Pilot G-2 pen and Opinel No 08 knife are another fantastic pieces of equipment I carry everyday
I have an older version of this scale, $24 on Amazon Prime: https://smile.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1526344532&sr=8-6&keywords=package+scale&dpID=51nM60Wv7fL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
This one is $35 Prime, and it has a larger platform if you decide it's better than trying to add a platform to balance on and re-tare the smaller scale: https://smile.amazon.com/Smart-Weigh-Shipping-Stainless-Readability/dp/B0153I0418/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526344532&sr=8-5&keywords=package+scale&dpID=412yZbU-gHL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Either way, skip the pizza for like one or two build meetings and you've found the budget room for a scale. :)
Pilot G2 is always a good pen. I also like the pilot precise V5. It is a roller ball pen, so it feels a little smoother than other ball point pens. I use fountain pens. Pilot Metropolitan or Lamy Safari is a great place to start out, but if you want to spend even less money the Platinum Preppy is a popular starter pen. In the long run a bottle of ink will be cheaper than a ton of disposable pens.
I love this one. Not exact size tho but great price.
https://www.amazon.com/LUXCOMS-Oversized-Extended-%EF%BC%8CNon-Slip-Mat%EF%BC%8C31-5X/dp/B07GSXJZSV
If you have a Goodwill nearby, you should definitely check it out for purses. You'd be surprised by the gems you can find there!
As for saving space in your purse, you should get a Grid-it. Extra pockets in purses (that you may not even use!) usually just add extra bulk. You can really make the most out of your purses with these organizers. You can probably make one yourself if you're strapped for cash.
Edit: This is an absolute lifesaver. Comes with a pen, scissors, tweezers, toothpick, screw drivers, nail file, flash light, magnifying glass, and a ruler, and it all fits in your wallet! Got mine at TjMaxx a few years ago and I've been carrying it around with me ever since.
I asked this question a few months ago and was directed to this portfolio. I got it last March and it has been great to carry comics and collections. It was a great recommendation.
I highly recommend the pencil that I use, It's even on a pretty good sale right now!

And this is the sharpener:

The softness of lead is up to you, since that's preference.
Glad you are coming to the hobby too!
Feathering can be caused by a multitude of issues:
Pen laying down too much ink - if the pen is a very wet writer, it will sometimes leave too much ink on the page, and it will be absorbed by the paper.
Bad paper - a lot of paper is not ideal for fountain pens. There are definitely some expensive papers that will work absolute wonders for making the ink look great, but some hp 32lb paper is really the way to go, especially for a beginner. After that, Rhodia is a very good choice.
Bad ink - different inks from different fountain pens react differently on paper. Noodler's specifically has an ink that is designed to not feather at all. (Noodler's X-Feather). Also, the Pilot Iroshizuku line is very well behaved from this aspect. I made a post about this just the other day. Give that a read, and see if it helps!
Oh man, I'm a lefty so i'll get down on this:
I only use one type of pen -- and I write a lot between work/personal therapy.
I use a Pilot Precise V5 RT. It has an extra-fine point, so I don't smudge the paper with my lefthandedness. It's just a smooth writing utensil and I LOVE it.
Thanks for the contest!
Here's the one we use at our house. Never had a problem. Just a tip, with my old college email address, we set up Amazon Prime for 6mos for free. Which means free shipping!

Yep.
If you're looking for a larger stylus for longer writing/drawing sessions, the Staedtler Digital Pencil ($15) works great. Also, with either this or the included stylus, Squid is amazing. Zero lag.
Pilot Precise V5RT. Like I said, not super expensive, but not cheap. And even less cheap when you forget to order online so you just keep getting them at target lol. Happy cake day!
Sharpie Pen Fine Point Pen, 12 Black Pens (1742663) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B66DXU/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_u1nzwb4SF8ZD6
This is now my favorite pen. Works like crap when signing carbon copies, but it's smooth and lightweight. Has a similar bold writing style like the G2 pens. These pens are my personal pens, they do not get handed out.
A 50lb digital postal scale works great, and is super cheap.

Forgot to mention you will want to pick up a different stylus for the Chromebook for heavy usage. The portability is excellent with the provided stylus but it is designed as a "add on" for people doing quick notes rather than the professional artist. My hand does cramp due to the barrel size of the provided stylus. While the ones I linked aren't the only choices you need to make sure you get the ones designed for the older Surface tablets and/or Wacom compatible technology. I think there are a few subreddits posted about this in the Samsung Chromebook subs...
Some choices are:

I like them much better. Especially the S-Pencil feels nice, and it's available on backorder from Amazon directly for $27: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B072N31S7C
Do not let ink price refrain you from witting. Please take a look to this great ink. Which also is Pilot and the cost is really good. This is a 350 ml bottle. Can last like a year or more!!! Cost about $20 bucks. Ink 350ml INK350BB (japan import) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001P35A74/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mZGPzbTKR99MP
Check out /r/flipping. Many of us use small scales like this one to determine the weight. In your case, you then enter the weight and address into the Canada Post shipping calculator and it spits out a rate.
If you're selling on ebay, they automatically calculate shipping for you, making it even easier.
Boxes and other shipping supplies can be had for free from most retail stores. If you ask nicely, many places will simply give you their extra boxes at the end of the day. With a little ingenuity, you can make a hell of a lot of money. I've made $800 in 3 months and I don't thrift half as much as you do.
PM me if you'd like some more info.
I've heard decent things about these pouches from Condor, relatively inexpensive

fits pretty well in my edc/school backpack. I keep my pencil case, headphones, calculator, the plug for my phone charger, a small calendar, and one or two other small things on the front occupying less than half the space. The back just has a zippered pocket where I keep some misc papers, a formula sheet and ruler in. It sits in my bag in front of my laptop, my notebook, and a thin text book, but behind my laptop charger, and few first aid things and my waterbottle. It really has made my backpack organization more efficient.

I have the same board. It's pretty decent! If you're itching to upgrade some things, I recommend these purchases:
I also hacked in a USB port to make transporting the keyboard a bit easier (I travel quite a bit for work). Pics here: http://imgur.com/a/hXi6p The only part you have to buy is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KLDPZVU and you'll likely need the ability to 3d print some standoffs (or find some other kind of non-conductive spacers to hold up the breakout board).
Best price for the Rotring 800 was in the middle of July during Prime Day, about 20 dollars from Amazon and another 3rd party seller. I got mine around that time.

Thank you! It's a work in progress. I really appreciate your comment.
Those pens are Pentel 筆touchサインペン(fude touch sign pen) SES 15C. I live in Japan at the moment so they are available at most stores that sell stationary and writing supplies.)
I think this is the equivalent version they sell in America.
Pentel Sign Pen
Make sure it weighs grams, oz and pounds. Also check that the screen is not placed on the weighing platform. My old food scale was like that and when I would put bigger items on I wouldn’t be able to read the screen. Some scales also have a top that folds up 90 degrees to hold bigger items, but a shoe box also works for that. I use a smaller “jewelry” scale for items less than an oz. or two
ACCUTECK All-in-1 Series W-8250-50bs A-Pt 50 Digital With Ac Adapter, Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SMHWZ42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eCdMAbG14WMAW
I have this one now, that I got on amazon for about $17. It’s nice because it takes batteries but also can plug into the wall and has all of the features I talked about above.
Then I recommend this digital notebook. It is expensive, but it fits your requirements perfectly. Amazon Link: Rocketbook
Uniball Signo 207 are my go-to pen for bar rushes, but if it's a slow shift, I use a cheap glittter pen. Makes our chef smile, because we hand write our tickets.
Awesome picks.
This is also a good collection:
>I can't rest the top of my writst/start of palm on anything
Get a wrist rest, there's all sorts of options out there.
>The keys feel like they got a sort of chrome(?) finish to them. It's a really strange feeling and sometimes when I type my fingers make a tiny squeaking noise because I move my fingers from one key to another before the first key is back all the way up.
That's probably just the stock UV coated keycaps. They're the cheapest to manufacture but also don't feel all that great. You might look into buying some aftermarket non-coated ABS or PBT keycaps.
Pilot Blue-Black is cheap as dirt (350 mL for $25), waterproof, professional, and really well behaved. It also shades surprisingly well on Rhodia and Tomoe River paper (maybe a 6.5/10 on shading which is a bit unusual for such a standard color).
(I've recently rediscovered this ink after spilling some water on a page I'd written and seeing just a hint of desaturation instead of the complete washing away of everything. Instant convert/made me love the ink again).
Are you using the speedball nibs in dip pens, or in fountain pens (in which there is an internal ink supply and the pen does not need to be repeatedly dipped into the ink)? If the former, then India ink should work fine. If the latter, you would need to use an ink that specifically says it's for fountain pens.
If you end up needing fountain pen ink for the whole class, I think Pilot's 350mL bottles are the best bulk value around. https://www.amazon.com/Ink-350ml-INK350BB-japan-import/dp/B001P35A74
I have no issues with the Moleskine paper, and quite enjoy writing on it. The only product that has some bleed-through is my soft-cover, and even that is negligible.
The Leuchtturm doesn't have a bleed-through problem, but a drying-speed problem. It dries so incredibly slowly that I had to sit for nearly 30 seconds to let some of the ink dry. This isn't a problem the Moleskines have. Writing with the pen turned upside down (finer point) shortens drying time, but is also annoying. I can't write in paragraphs without smudging, a problem I don't have with Moleskine.
These galleries may or may not demonstrate what I'm talking about, I don't have a great place to setup for photos at the moment (plotting for NaNo and some freelance work has my desk full of papers). It's also 3AM and I haven't slept in slightly over 48 hours. I'm adding Amazon links, but only because I have a tough time differentiating, and figure some others might as well. Interestingly, I had to take these pictures on my music table - the notebooks were all laying on "The Ink Spots" album.
Moleskine Classic Large, Ruled A
Moleskine Classic Extra Large, Ruled A
Moleskine Folio A4, Squared A
Leuchtturm1917 Medium, Dots A
I can write in the Leuchtturm (I'll never remember how to spell that) when I hold the pen (Sheaffer Imperial 440 - not my pic) upside down, but I really dislike doing that.
It could be the ink, I use Waterman Intense Black (Encre Noir - so much better that way). I am almost out of my 50mls, so I'll need new ink soon. If anyone wants to recommend a good ink for the Leuchtturm, I'll give it a go.
I will say that I do prefer a rougher texture. I enjoy the sound a rougher paper makes, and I like the feel of it under the pen. If I can't hear or feel the pen, I don't enjoy writing.
I personally find all this talk of "leagues" to be ridiculous. It shouldn't matter how expensive your notebook is. All that matters are these two questions:
For me, Moleskine notebooks are both "Yes." For Leuchtturm, it fails on the first. If it's an ink problem, I'd very likely convert if I found an ink that cooperated.
Yeah, you can buy separate wrist wrests. A popular and inexpensive one would be the Grifiti Fat 14 (generally around $15).
Do you need dedicated media keys? As many TKLs use media keys built into other keys and are accessible through key combinations (like my QFR/Novatouch use Fn+F5-F12 for volume and media).
Honestly if you don't know what they need from asking them, a gift card to Amazon. I'd much rather have that and spend it on what I need or whatever G.A.S. tells me I need than to receive a piece of kit that I didn't choose. I don't mean to sound rude, it's just that I rather prefer researching and choosing my own gear.
If you absolutely must, though, I recommend a book.

I keep trying to post this through mobile, so, sorry if there are tons of duplicates.
Have you considered getting a Grid-It organiser to organise things like chargers and headphones? What about something like a nice leather roll-up pencil holder to store all his pens and pencils?
This is the one I have, and it's pretty great.
I carry a Radix One Slim. I currently carry 4 cards, an ID, and a little bit of cash. cheap, small, but pulling cards out gracefully takes a little getting used to. the other downside is that you need to fold your cash, but the R1 Slim is freaking small. been carrying this for a little over 6 months and I love it.
I can't remember if I bought it from Amazon or directly from their website.

I use this for long-term storage and it gets linked in this sub as a storage "binder" kind of often.

Definitely weigh them. I debated this for a while, but since I got this scale, everything has been smooth sailing in the keg filling department. I fill 3 at a time from a 1/2 bbl fermenter. For $25 you can’t beat it. Up to 110 lbs, battery or a/c plug. The display is separate and plugs in so the scale can be on the floor (even with an additional platform on it or whatever) but the display can be up on a table where you can see it easily. It doesn’t lock in on a weight after a few seconds like bathroom scales do, so you can just watch as the keg fills and close the valve when it’s done.
The S Pen that comes with the Tab S3 is actually very comfortable. It should work well with the Tab A as well. Another option you can try is the Norris Digital - https://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-Digital-Samsung-Technology-GP-U999ERIPAAB/dp/B072N31S7C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526057081&sr=8-1&keywords=norris+digital+pencil

Honestly great mat for $20 and just another element of rgb
I am partial to these. But your pen is pretty nifty as well.
While not exactly a full women's wallet, I found lots of options that will hold several cards.
This.
This.
This.
This.
Or even this. (If she carries a big purse.)
Bonus points if you fill extra slots with cute family pics.
Also, never give a wallet without putting a little money in it first. Even a few pennies. Otherwise it's bad luck.
Best scale, it's the last one you'll need to buy. I bought a smaller one at first, but then had to buy another. Just buy this one first and save time and money.

Check out Sharpie Pens, might just be the perfect middle ground for you. They won't bleed through paper and they're pretty decent for marking harder surfaces.

It's neat but it reminded me of this reusable notebook and pens you can buy for $25 on Amazon right now

Gets good reviews but I've never tried it. Ad copy says it can be used 5 times but reviewers have said they've gotten 14 uses.
Using 1 notebook seems better than using a stack of 14 and doesn't look like it would require more resources to produce. Although if you cary a smartphone I guess it's still a waste of resources if we want to go all the way down that rabbit hole.
Pilot V5 Extra Fine
When they came out with the Retractable version of this bad boy it was like Christmas. I also found another cap version while I was in Greece last Spring that had a gray body and a super fine point...Love this pen so much. I also use Microns a lot, although I'm not sure why.
I experience the same thing, my hand cramps up and hurts if I try to ignore it. Unfortunately I don't have much advice since I haven't been able to overcome it myself. Maybe try using something different to write with, like switching types of pens or pencils to find one that is easier on your hand. So far the easiest I've found is the Sharpie brand pens.
I was curious about the deal so I checked out Amazon as well. The price is crazy low! Especially since they all come with a converter. I assume that it's being imported directly from China since the estimated delivery is so long.
For the curious: http://www.amazon.com/Jinhao-Fountain-Diversity-Transparent-Unique/dp/B00L95MIJQ?ie=UTF8&keywords=Jinhao%20Fountain%20Pens&qid=1465346477&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5
Now to get ink in all of those colors. Anyone know of any good yellow ink? :P
If you're male and looking for a bag that isn't a backpack, making you look like a child, and isn't a purse that is feminine. Then I suggest the Frost River Field Satchel, the small one is big enough. I carry all my stuff in there every where I go.
I combine it with the Cacoon Grid-it Small Organizer which fits perfectly inside.
Absolutely, looks like it's on a lightning deal on Amazon for $21 - Good Timing!

TL;DR: Get a scale, stop paying for over the counter rates.
I got this while it was a lightning deal. Not a high end brand or anything, but the purple lighting looks great with the rest of my set-up.
Definitely the V5 in my opinion, Vision is another good line if you're looking to go Uni-ball/Stick. If you're looking retractable then I would say the retractable V5 (which is refillable), the 207, or my girlfriend's pick the classic G2.
I’ve never done it, but I see these little carrier things that look like they hold about 10 floppies. They look like giant wallets or something that would hold a car manual.
Edit:
Here’s one.
The following devices all have Wacom EMR digitizers and would for example work with the Staedtler noris digital ($27)
Which one you want probably depends on whether you want a keyboard or not and how much you value screen size, resolution and quality (All except the lenovo are "retina", either 12 inch 3:2, 10 inch Amoled or 9.7 4:3 Ipad screen or garbage for the lenovo one).
Appwise, Inkredible Pro is pretty nice as is LectureNotes. Inkredible has nicer pens and design, but LectureNotes has more features.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMHWZ42/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I use this one and it works great, no issues so far and it's been over a year. Hope this helps!
Fountain pens deplete liquid ink much quicker than a ballpoint or gel pen or whatever. Just one of the quirks. And you're probably using it more than you thought! 1-ish mL of ink in a few days of moderate writing is not unheard of considering a single day of heavy duty note taking can do it.
The cost of ink can be negligible if you buy a bulk bottle of Pilot ink or similar. A 50mL bottle of ink will probably last 6-12 months.
edit: maybe don't invest in 350cc of ink if don't know if you'll like it or not. J.Herbin and some other inks are pretty expensive but brands like Pilot, Waterman and Pelikan sell regular ink that's a bit cheaper.
Something like this Accuteck will do fine for most sellers until you get into shipping big & heavy stuff, otherwise it's all about getting your own packaging as you will get gouged at the post office(or wherever you're shipping from) if you don't use something like their Flat-Rate packaging(that's free).
Ebay is very a good source for packaging though you do want a general idea of what kind of packaging you need.
I use the Zebra F-701 with a Fisher Space Pen refill, and it's fantastic. My pen was actually the old-style with a plastic "clicker," but I replaced it with a steel clicker to get the right look. Now the pens are all-steel out of the packaging!
NOTE: The pen isn't truly all-steel construction. Many of the innards are plastic. However, it's a very sturdy pen which I have carried for years now. It's also cheap enough that I wouldn't be (very) upset if something happened to it. If you try it, I think you'll be pleased.

good luck!
If you want a giant bottle of good, cheap ink for your students, the "coke bottle" of Pilot Blue-Black is a good choice.
I'd suggest one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Grifiti-Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboards/dp/B00FPDAU6Q
I have the tenkeyless version and it's amazing. I'm going to be taking the original wrist rest off my K70 and get the larger grifiti pad to use instead.
Just replace the ink in the existing pen. Super simple and highly worth while. link to the refill
Why is your future pen set so awesome looking? Why am I drawn to it? I want answers!!
I'm a roller ball fan. I will probably use these pens for the rest of my life. But that set is intriguing. I think the fact that the come in a case is what I like so much.
I think a lot of us enjoy this one. Having the display seperate is nice Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_eiaEzbDWXFTG7
I bought one of these some time ago
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072N31S7C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works really well with my Chromebook Pro and feels more natural for drawing than the original stylus. Of course, it doesn't fit into the stylus slot on the keyboard, so I just keep it in my pencil cup.
The mousepad? It's a fairly cheap one that my gf got me for X-mas.

It's really good quality for the price and the side connecting micro usb for power makes it easy to hide and route on the side of the desk.
