My sister died and my brother had a nervous breakdown in my early pregnancy, so I'm no stranger to stress! Just remember, babies are born in much worse circumstances. Your baby isn't going to come into the world addicted to drugs or malnourished. You're giving your baby the nutrition and love he/she needs, and you're bringing your baby into a loving family. There is so much emphasis placed on emotional health during pregnancy, but we're still humans. We don't get a bubble with the positive pregnancy test. Life continues, stress still happens. Babies have issues whether their moms were stressed during pregnancy or not. Granted, I will probably feel guilty about every little problem she has, but I will forgive myself for being stressed during pregnancy, and you will need to, too.

I can't say that I handled stress well early on, but I feel like I'm doing okay now, so here's my advice:

  1. Get a deep water tub thing and take baths once a week. I've never been a bath person before getting that because I'm 5'8" and don't really fit in tubs, but that thing is a game changer. I always talk to my baby during baths. She doesn't move, but it's our special time.

  2. Journal. I know it's cliched, but do it. Write letters to your baby, write your own feelings, doodle, draw, find a way to get your stress out of yourself.

  3. Breathe. Sit somewhere comfortable, play relaxing music, and breathe in through your nose for the count of 4, and out through your mouth for the count of 8. Deep refreshing breaths in, everything else goes out. Do it for at least 10 minutes.

  4. Find a way to be active. Do prenatal exercise videos on youtube, go on walks, do something. It really does make you feel better.

  5. Talk to your husband. You know that moment in rom coms when you want to yell at the screen, "Just tell her why you didn't come!" and you feel like it's ridiculous because no one would be that bad at communication in real life? You might be having one of those moments right now. My DH and I have had a few of them during pregnancy, and once we talked about things, we found that we were usually on the same page. Maybe your husband would love to move back east, but thinks it'd be too much for you. Maybe you're having mixed feelings about being a SAHM, and he is too. Maybe he thinks you should talk to your mom about everything, he doesn't feel like he needs to be your only emotional support. Sit down and have a heart to heart. Tell him that you know how hard he's working to get a job, and that you love him so much for it. Share your hopes, fears, and stress with him. You're committed for better or worse. This is just some worse. It'll get better.

I hope some of those help! Sending much love! -M

Bialetti - stove top espresso maker - you'll never need to buy an expensive coffee maker ever again.

Leuchterm 1917 journal for my bullet journal

6in Ruler to go with my journal - fits in the back pocket perfectly

Huhuhero Color Pen Set also to go with my journal -- has every color you'll need and has a really nice thickness. I use a finer tipped Staedtler for writing but these pens are perfect for titles and decorating and under $6 can't be beat

Customizable dog tag

Ahava Dead Sea Bath Salts - for a luxurious bath that won't dry you out

Ramekins for all of your baking needs. It's also fantastic to use for cooking (holding onto spices, separating eggs, etc.) and for serving dips.

Dog Toy Basket - adorable, holds a ton of toys, and looks really chic in my apartment.

Salt and Pepper Mill Grinders - pretty and functional

Bath Overflow Cover - get your water higher for a more satisfying bath

Bath Spa Pillow

Grippy Stand - the BEST stand for any size tablet.. I have two of them they're so good

Hotel Spa Cotton Towel 4 Pack - smallish bath towel with so many uses. I leave then by the front door to wipe the pup's paws.

Popin Cookin 9 Pack - the MOST FUN you'll ever have 9 times over

Tons and tons and tons of books - look under the "available for less money" links for "used" paperback versions that will make them super affordable and they usually come nearly brand new!

I was actually going to suggest that Baby Bjorn bouncer! We were living in a small condo when my first was born, and moved when he was about 2 months old. Not only was the folding feature really useful to stash it under the couch, but he liked being more upright to look around, and since it's so light and portable I could take it anywhere. I brought it into the bathroom when I needed to shower, plus to friends houses, on vacation, etc for months just to keep my son contained and entertained. Definitely a winner!

We also had a similar hook-on high chair and doorway jumper, both got a lot of use.

I'd also recommend a folding bathtub, especially since a lot of small apartments only come with showers. (We had to add traction stickers to the bottom of that one, because it's pretty slippery.) In the place we moved to after the condo, the bathroom was so tight that it was tricky for both parents to bathe the baby in the actual tub, so we often took the folding tub on the back porch for bath :) Now that kiddo is 4, the folding tub is great for sensory/water stuff when you don't want to go full pool.

Mischief Managed!

There's an overarching theory behind how these will all help with a school experience. Which is, basically, that you need to have fun in between studying. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy, goes the saying.

  • So, since we're talking about wine, I thought I should point out that one of my favorite ways of enjoying wine is with a nice bath. And what better way to make that prospect quite a bit safer, than with this piece of heaven?
  • Next, we come to brooms. What else would a wizard or witch ride? You know what else is interesting about witches? According to Harry Potter, they basically enjoy a tickling sensation while pretending to be burned at the stake (I swear I remember this from the books). Since they're already having fun with it, I think they should have even more fun by turning the flames colors.
  • You know who wears a lovely hat? Well, bonnet. A pretty, floral bonnet. Captain Mal Reynolds. I could surely use this to maximize my time enjoying Captain Mal's world.
  • This one is a tough one. Because there are so many books I could want, but that's such a traditional explanation... So, since we're talking about books as a journey, I really wanted to put a choose-your-own-adventure book. But it hasn't come out yet, so I'll have to content myself with this journey provoker.
  • Moving on to trunks. Trunks are storage, right? And I've got a bunch of jewelry that's just begging for a home. This looks like the perfect place for it.
  • Finally, we come to capes. Superheros, wizards, Sherlock Holmes. All these people have a history of wearing capes. And wizards are a strange people, and we sometimes need to work to understand strange people. This book might help guide the way.

Have you asked anyone else on her care team if they agree with the need for a new chair? I’d say it’s a good idea, but they’re the experts.

What I do know is that the chair height can make a huge difference, especially if the aide helps her in and out of the shower. The higher it is, the easier it will be on your mom’s back and joints to sit down and get up, and that minor change in leverage contributes to an overall better experience. I learned that firsthand after a major spinal surgery, that I tended to take for granted those simple things like standing up on the first try, or getting in and out of bed without doing that maneuver where you just kinda fling yourself upward and twist.

I use a shower mat like this one that has a bunch of small suction cups on the bottom and a soft, almost grass-like texture on top. It stays in place well, but I’d also second the suggestion to get stick-on grip tape. You can get strips, one big sheet, or find some in a fun shape to add whimsy to your mom’s bathtub if you think she might like some fishes or squares or dinosaurs or flowers or whatever. It’s surprising how little it takes to make the average tub into an ice rink, and even a minor slip can be disastrous at an advanced age.

  1. I'm grateful that my baby girl is happy and healthy despite some difficulties coming into this world.
  2. I'm grateful for my partner who is so so so kind and loving but also is one of the few people who doesn't let me get away with shit.
  3. I'm grateful for an extended family and in-laws that get along (for the most part) and are fun to be around.
  4. I'm grateful for my job, it's even in the profession of my choosing!
  5. I'm grateful that our one car, THE Subaru, continues to chug along at 180k. Thank you Subaru, we couldn't do it without you.

Wow I am so late on this! Sorry, if you're still interested I was finally able to take a bath last night after receiving this stuff.

I purchased this drain stopper and this overflow cover Together they worked very well together & allowed me to fill my bath probably another 3 inches or so. My bath is fairly old in my apartment & without the drain cover it drains (very slowly) but let's say I'm taking just a 20-30 minute bath, it will be less than half full by the time I'm finished.

I had really bad luck last night - I guess I chose to take a bath when everyone in my building decided to run their dishwasher & do laundry & whatever else so I had 0 hot water & really didn't feel like sitting in lukewarm water forever. I feel like the overflow cover would have allowed me to fill up even farther which would have been nice.

Coupled with some candles & a bath pillow & it would be a perfect bath. I really recommend them. Also for as cheap as the items were they seem pretty durable & with proper care I would say they would last quite a while.

u/pixelationnation · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Ive got a bunch of little ideas. Fuzzy pants, robes, or shorts like these. Or a nice fuzzy blanket/throw. I love those.

this bath drain will give you an extra 2-3 inches of water in the bath! bath pillows are also a godsend.

If she doesnt already have a phone workout band she needs one. I also seriously recommend fruit infuser water bottles!!

Best of luck.

u/Ehalon · 3 pointsr/lockpicking

Depends on your budget matey, in the UK you can pick up a semi-decent vice from Lidl - they crop up occassionally so you would need to keep an eye out, always well under £10.

In lieu of that a C Clamp - about £7, I'm sure you can get that cheaper in a hardware store or Spring Clamp - about £2 - MAY do the job when attached to the right furniture - right height, thickness - a chair back has worked for me before.

Maplin offers a really decent multi angle offering for the relatively cheap proice of £6.95.

You want either - Suction / Very Heavy base or something like the Stanley which really is super flexible - roughly £16 - so yes, third thing is FLEXIBLE head, multi-tilt etc. 4th thing - width:

All that being said, most of those don't 'extend' past 4 inches, which is fine for 99% of locks but if you need more:

If US and you have a bit of cash panavise - They do a model for about... $90 I think which extends to 12" or so. Can't link directly as their site seems to be down for me now, sorry. They also do models at £60 but again, I'm sure Lowes or Home Depot can provide something for under $15

So:

  • Price
  • Weight
  • Stability
  • Flexibility
  • Portability
  • Quality - Don't buy Chinese! Anecdotally heard they all seem to fail very quickly at the 'head joint'.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers

    J

EDIT - Added prices and fixed typos.

I signed up for OKCupid in 2002 or 2003, when it first came out. I went on many dates, made some friends, and I'm still in touch with some of them. I met one guy, took him to an Evanescence concert, ended up meeting the brother, started dating the brother, and drove down one weekend to help the brother move to a new place...And got in a horrendous car accident. Totally screwed up my body, had surgery and everything. All thanks to online dating.

But I didn't give up. I tried other sites, too. Plenty of Fish, Geek2Geek, MMODating (my picture was in an advertisement for it in a gaming magazine), even Craigslist. Nothing stuck.

Until two and a half years ago. August 25th, 2011, I just sent out messages to about forty guys on about three different sites.

One wrote me back. And, surprisingly, we hit it off. We REALLY hit it off. So much so, that we were engaged within for months, and married two months later.

Tomorrow is our two year wedding anniversary, in fact. My parents just showed up, as I write this, to take us out to dinner for it, since we can't afford to treat ourselves.

The point is, don't give up. There are lots of people out there, and online communication is a great way to get to know someone, vet out their likes and dislikes, find out how you're similar. I was 31 before I met the man of my dreams, but it DOES happen.

And I'm still friends with those brothers I met in 2004. And others I've met through dating sites.

Keep at it. You'll find your luck soon, I'm sure. I'm rooting for you!

EDIT: Item, because some days I'd really love the ability to take a bath. We have a tub, but no way to stop the water from draining out. :-(

u/PeachOnAWarmBeach · 2 pointsr/entwives

My bathtub is one of my top 5 places to get stoned. Lucky enough to have a killer bathtub as well as a great view of awesome trees and sky, out of a couple windows in my bathroom on the 2nd floor.

I recommended the other day one of those clear plastic things that go over your overflow drain thing that let you get a couple more inches of goodness!

Bath stuff? For some mums, bath time is the only substantial "Me-time" that they get, so license to treat themselves might be nice, with bath bombs, candles and you can get bath caddies that are specially made to hold a book and a glass of wine.

A bluetooth speaker might make a nice mood-setter, too; Betron make some great ones and while they aren't waterproof, they're only five volts and probably less than fifteen bucks so replaceable :)

u/IrishTripletMom · 1 pointr/parentsofmultiples

At 6 months we put the twins in a laundry basket with a towel on the bottom in the bathtub. By 10 months we moved to the bathtub with like 2” of water and the laundry basket upside down blocking off the back 1/3 of the bathtub.

We got an awesome non-slip May for the tub when they wanted to crawl/walk around the tub shortly after that. It fits 98% of our tub and is both easy to wash and keeps the twins from slipping.

Gorilla Grip Original Patented... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F5K9YNS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

After bath I wrap a towel around them (the kind with a hood) and let them run free. My husband usually grabs one and I grab the other and we move to the living room to do diapers and jammies. It’s possible to do it solo, but SO much easier with a partner for the getting them dressed part.

Haha okay, I figured.

> 100% more visages of bear/ other domineering animals

This sounds a little crazy, but that might just make it awesome. Any idea where I can get these (reasonably priced)?

> 100% more wood. Begin replacing everything with wood. Mirror: Wood.

I'm renting so can't replace the mirror.

> Toilet: Wood.

One of these?

> Shower Mat: Wood.

For the shower mat - do you mean something like this or this?

u/dogfacedpajamas · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A shower curtain if you have the kind of tub/shower that needs one. Also get a hair stopper to prevent hair going down the drain! Something like this. If you have a tub and like baths I suggest a drain cover too to get an extra few inches of water/bubbles.

Enjoy your new house!

u/Marcie-Babyyy · 4 pointsr/BabyBumps

I also have a bath overflow drain cover (allows the tub to fill up a little higher, which covers my baby bump a little more) and a bathtub tray (what I like about this one is the little wine glass slot on the right...I had this before I was pregnant 😉)

I also bring my water bottle in for bath time. The warm water really dehydrates me. I have a 25oz Eddy Cambelback water bottle that I bring everywhere. I love the straw and I can open/sip it one handed. I think that feature will come in handy once the baby is born!

u/Labyrinthine02 · 3 pointsr/Showerthoughts

I rarely take baths I’m more of a shower girl but get yourself one of these babies and always keep extra dry hand towels near to help dry your hands when you need to turn the page.

u/ozzy52 · 3 pointsr/ECR_UK

I love my Apex tanks but I know what you mean. I tend to just run hot water through it but i guess a soak in IPA might help with the left behind taste, just give it a good rinse afterwards. I have used the one above on other tanks with no problems.

One word of warning, I once tried to put a q-tip into it to clean, where the wick holes are on the tank (up from the bottom) there are two rubber seals that help make up the holes and one of the seals popped out and it was an absolute sod to get it back in, so don't do that.

u/jarquafelmu · 234 pointsr/StartledCats

You can get bath overflow drain covers to increase the height of the drain. I have that exact one and it works great. The water level stays high and the water seems to stay warmer for longer.

So I have this bottomless bath over flow drain cover on my list http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00314WHW6/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_10?colid=Y9Z5O2V84E7Q&coliid=I1QBQ3WSMF9EP6 I work at Lush and am the trainer so I consider taking baths to be work research ;) the overflow cover makes my baths deeper. I had one but I didn't realize the care instructions are meant to be followed and it got mildewy and has to be thrown away. So yes, that is what I would choose. Thanks for the contest!

u/Mel428 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I see that you like bath products! I think we would both like the Bath Overflow Drain Cover. It lets you put more water in a bath for deeper bubble baths! I know my tub at home seems to drain really low, and the few extra inches would be really lovely.

u/lizzehness · 9 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Just be prepared for the bottom of your tub to be super slippery after the oil! Get yourself some duckies!

u/mixterrific · 14 pointsr/muacjdiscussion

I looooove baths. I take a long (+1 hour) bath at least once and usually twice a week. I use bath bombs, a bit of an oil (coconut or sweet almond), and I use this thing so I can fill the tub really full. Honestly that has been the biggest game changer.

u/Tric3ratop5 · 1 pointr/DIY

Thanks! They are called splash guards. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001A0NA7E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Water gets all over the floor in that bathroom, and these do a fairly good job at minimizing that

u/spazzypecan · 3 pointsr/CFBOffTopic

I just took a bubble bath and used a clay face mask and I feel so relaxed. Also, this thing is awesome. I filled my bathtub all the way to the top.

u/Junkmans1 · 3 pointsr/Plumbing

The overflow's I've seen as a consumer/DIYer are an integral part of the drain system so they'd be difficult to seal off.

We do have a deep soaking tub that we like to soak in a bit deeper than the overflow allows, so we use something like this which adds few inches to the water level and just sticks on the top like a suction cup: https://www.amazon.com/Bottomless-Bath-Overflow-Drain-Cover/dp/B00314WHW6

Here's a weird one: a butter knife.

I use it to open cans that have a pull-tab top without wrecking my fingers. Stick the tip through the loop, lever up.

See also: an electric can opener, this giant pill organizer, these grab bars that can easily be installed in the tiniest of apartment bathrooms without starting an argument with your landlord (priceless!) combined with this hockey tape (put it on your grab bars and crutch handles to keep your hands from slipping) and these anti-slip stickers, (I even put the stickers on the bathroom floor.)

Hmm... I guess the most random thing that I think I need would be this Bath Overflow Drain Cover

u/AnotherSoulessGinger · 8 pointsr/homeowners

Search for a bath overflow drain cover. You can get one on Amazon for $7, or pick one up at Bed, Bath and Beyond and the like. It covers the drain so you can have a deep bath.

Edit: there’s a hole in the top so you won’t run the risk of completely overflowing the tub.

u/Misoangry · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F5K9YNS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is what I put in our tub , it works really well and doesn't float/move like others I have had in the past.

u/M0dusPwnens · 1 pointr/aww

The main issue is the overflow inlet, which a lot of recent tubs mysteriously position really low. You can get a cover (like this) to vastly improve the situation.

u/Tannetje · 2 pointsr/thenetherlands

Ik ben er ook pas net achter, maar de Duitse Amazon brengt vaak wijsheid. Link. Deze verstuurt wel naar Nederland.

From amazon.co.uk, NZD$550. This is from an Amazon affiliate too, so they benefit less from the economy of scale, and are also subject to EU certification, shipping, warehousing etc. And VAT is 20%.

u/that_cachorro_life · 2 pointsr/beyondthebump

I have this - I use it for myself for a fuller bath. I’m sure a toddler could pull it off quickly but it would buy you 5 seconds.

u/sabreteeth · 2 pointsr/TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Deep bath overflow drain cover <- I have the same problem, this thingabobber helps get that extra few inches of water depth.

But for real, our shower is in constant use and too grody for me to ever feel up to cleaning it and soaking. I dream of one day having a separate Japanese soaking tub because they're shorter in length but deeper. I want everything but my nose and eyes covered so I can soak like a damn alligator.

u/mharris1x · 4 pointsr/LushCosmetics

For the drain, this is a flat-type grate then? Those are typical where I live (San Francisco). We use silicon drain stoppers for those.
https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Silicone-Drain-Stopper-Aqua/dp/B0038JE650/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=PT8KQBA5XHXHW0A7WEEH&th=1

Then for the "overflow drain" that a lot of tubs have, we use deep water bath gadget (also silicone)
https://www.amazon.com/Better-Bath-Deep-Water/dp/B0001YJIGW
Total investment: about $15

u/lotoflivinglefttodo · 3 pointsr/RandomActsOfPolish

Or just buy one of these to throw over the overflow when you're taking a bath.

u/1981sdp · 2 pointsr/DoesAnybodyElse

Not exactly what you meant but I found this

u/drtonmeister · 3 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Adjustment of the mechanism is the correct answer, but if you buy the type of flat silicone/rubber bath stopper that fits over the drain when the plug is "down", you will have it for emergencies and for your travel-kit.

u/LittleHelperRobot · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Non-mobile:

u/Crivens1 · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

It should hold water when raised, drain when lowered.Sometimes you need to wiggle it a bit. Also, note that there is an overflow space at the bottom of the metal circle. If the tub fills to here, it will drain here, rather than go all the way to the top of the tub. Should you want a fuller tub there is a silicone suction-cup gadget you can put on to block the overflow.

u/dreadfulpennies · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My gut tells me that everyone but me knew already, but I didn't know that I could just cover this thing and my bathtub would stop steadily draining. I didn't even know the nose-lookin' thing in every bathtub I've ever bathed in was an over-flow drain. I thought it was just a drain toggle that never worked. My whole life I've been adjusting the water to trickle down so my hedonistic ass can take a bath with the water at the rim like the good lord intended.

I have so many regrets.

u/mrsjksnowwis · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Oh, no shower? There's also this bathmat though it's a little out of 15$ range.

u/SirMontego · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

Get your screwdriver and remove the overflow drain cover. Get a piece of plastic wrap and fold it over itself a few times to make a thicker piece of plastic. Take the plastic and cover the hole. Make a small hole for the screw and screw the drain cover back on. Cut off excess plastic as necessary.
