Hi! I’m back!!
Although I thoroughly intend to write my birth story when I’m ready, I just finished my first piece since the baby arrived so in celebration, I’ll pair it with something useful.
I really appreciated posts like this while I was pregnant so here goes:
Things I didn’t know I needed:
(AKA things I have frantically ordered on amazon at or around 2am)
•Bottle Drying Rack This probably seems obvious, but when we didn’t get this from our showers we were like... idk why we can’t just use a towel??
•Safe way to cosleep My husband built a BEAUTIFUL Sidecar Crib, but it was attached on my side of the bed and it took 2.5 weeks for me to have healed enough to climb in bed around it safely with the baby. This way, I didn’t have to bend over to pick up baby or even spit up to check on/soothe him.
•Lactation Suppliment My lactation consultant approved. This one worked well in my breakfast tea.
•Better flanges My poor nipples were so sore and the flames that come with the Medela... well I’m not sure who they’re supposed to fit but not me. My doula practically ordered these for me. GAME CHANGER.
•Pumping bra I was cutting holes in sports bras. This is better.
•Nipple Shells Another kind reddittor sent me in the direction of this AMAZING INVENTION after I posted a photo of ice packs tied to my nipples with a burp cloth because I refused to wear a shirt my nipples hurt so bad. I will be purchasing these for EVERY PREGNANT WOMAN FOREVER. They keep your nipples dry, collect drips, apply counter pressure to keep your nipples shaped correctly for latching, and most importantly omg nothing touches the precious nips and you can wear a shirt!!
•Car mirror
Me: that seems extra, he’s in a car seat and safe why would I need a mirror??
Hormones; HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH YOU FOOL
•Car adapter for my breast pump Cheaper than batteries
•Shade for his side of the car because anything that wakes up my sleeping baby is the devil. This one has a bonus that allowed me to roll the window down and it was HOT in the south
•Better suction for the breast pump Again- just better than whatever they send you
•My Breast Friend we got the boppy but this one saved my back
•Heating pad Turns out I’ll do ANYTHING to keep the baby asleep when I transfer him to his crib including preheat the darn thing (on low!) before I lay home down
•Stroller Caddy You’ll want somewhere to put your keys, phone, and coffee
•Baby K’tan An easier way for my husband to wear the baby.
•Leggings I had a pair of these before, and they are SO COMFORTABLE on my postpartum body that I bought 5 more in different colors!
•Extra pump parts for whichever pump you have
•A hands-up swaddle I found at Target
•Wine.
Anyway, hope this helps! Best of luck to all of you!
Hey I'm not the OP, for more info please go to the original post to congratulate them. :)
Personally I DO live in a van, it's a 1992 Chevy G20 Gladiator. I have a memory foam mattress on top of a wooden platform, totes and cardboard boxes for storage (food, clothing, etc.) underneath. having the mattress off the floor gives space for storage, and also insulates the mattress from the heat or cold of the ground.
For privacy I have tinted windows, non-adhesive window film, collapsible foil sunshade for the front window, and black bug screen mesh like this for the side windows.
For water I use sturdy Arizona tea jugs. I have a basic Coleman camping toilet for nighttime and emergency uses - some people simply use pee bottles or five gallon buckets.
If it's cold at night I have a [12V electric blanket](https://www.walmart.com/ip/TREKSAFE-12-Volt-Heated-Travel-Blanket-White/54609929] and/or a 12V "car seat" warmer that I put under the mattress. I also have a propane Little Buddy heater which I have not yet used.
My main luxury item is an Alpicool C15 refrigerator powered by two 35AH "house batteries" (in parallel) which are charged using a Battery Doctor isolator. The Battery Doctor is run by my alternator when I drive-it only starts charging the house batteries after my van battery is full. The fridge uses 5.8AH per day. I used a cooler for a year, but the drawbacks are constantly buying or procuring ice (like from soda fountains), and food spoilage from it getting waterlogged, plus having to drain it frequently.
For hot meals, I use a 12 volt "lunchbox cooker" (works similar to a crock pot) which is powered in my cigarette lighter while I drive (or I can run it with the house batteries through a 12v splitter - the Alpicool is plugged into the other side. I also have a propane camping stove which I have never used.
I have a USB mini fan to run at night, or I can run my small regular fan through the 300W power inventor where I can also charge my laptop and/or phone (I usually charge the phone in the cigarette lighter).
I don't make any money if you buy from any of these links, but I only used them for illustrative purposes - I encourage you to shop around on Craigslist, eBay, Amazon, Walmart, check yard sales, etc. find the best priced similar item that works best for you. You don't have to get everything all at once - I didn't. But if you can get a basic minivan or van (seats removed), a mattress (or sleeping bag even) on a frame, and some jugs of water, it's a start.
I built a sleeping/cooking platform for the back of my crosstrek and I am about 6'2 and I just fit with the front seats as far forward as they go. So you guys should fit just fine. Getting something like the Yakima 16 skybox (what I have on mine) helps a lot with gear storage. If you are going to sleep in your car in the summer you are probably going to want the windows down so recommend these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YI3IGA6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They fit the back doors perfectly, keep the bugs out, give some privacy and are some defense against minor rain.
I had fun coming up my build/set up so I say get creative and good luck!
Sure!
Folding Ultimate Windshield Sunshade for Tesla Model 3 2018 2019 Custom Fit Sun Shade
It’s very pricey for a sunshade ($60) but honestly its been great. Folds up easy, good fit, very sturdy (not floppy) and has a nice carry bag to stow it in.
I read another comment where someone advised you to make sure your kid runs around during stops. That is great advice. I don't know if your little one can walk yet but lots of exercise to get them nice and tired is a good idea.
I also read that you nurse. I have become quite proficient at sitting in the back and nursing my baby while he is strapped into his car seat. That is a god send. You don't have to pull over and it's a great comforting tool. I keep a towel, scarf in the back to shield us from other drivers.
Forgot to say my car has tinted windows but my old car didn't. I found those [shade sox] (http://www.amazon.com/ShadeSox-Universal-Shade-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6/ref=lp_15737211_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1463766137&sr=1-4) things very helpful.
I don't doubt that your aunt is getting headaches, but they aren't caused by the Wi-Fi. Multiple studies and the World Health Organization reports show that people really can't tell when devices are on or off. So either they're psychosomatic or caused by something else. But rather than confront her directly and make her feel defensive, you might do what the other redditor suggested above and black out the lights or approach her and say something like "I'm concerned about your headaches, but according to medical studies there's likely another reason for it and I want you to find the actual cause and be happy and healthy. You might have had these before but since getting the Wi-Fi package just became more acutely aware of them". Then maybe suggest she up her intake of water and add an electrolyte powder because hydration and vitamins are the easiest place to start. Maybe suggest she start logging her food and sleep and see if there's a pattern. Even if this is all in her head, it doesn't mean it's not real. The brain is a powerful little thing and the fact that placebos work shows we can consciously and unconsciously control a lot. Your approach will depend on your aunt's personality and you know her best. If that doesn't work, get one of those car sunshades that come in two sections and put one side in front of the router and make up a story that it's a Wi-Fi filter or something and tell her it still allows the signal to get through for devices but filters out the frequency that affects humans.
The sunshade I'm talking about: Car Windshield Sun Shade - Blocks UV Rays Sun Visor Protector, Sunshade To Keep Your Vehicle Cool And Damage Free,Easy To Use, Fits Windshields of Various Sizes (Classic 59 x 27.55 inches) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I90VP0G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5BlWBbZ1ASR6C
Link to an article that explains the studies showing Wi-Fi headaches aren't really a thing that you can show her as a source for scientific basis if she's open to facts and stuff: https://amp.livescience.com/52978-electromagnetic-hypersensitivity-cause-unclear.html
Just got it this week after an accident in my 1994 Acura Legend.
First Honda for me, and first car made in the 21st century (previously also had a 2008 Chevy Cavalier).
Wanted to share with you all and ask about best (frugal) accessories to keep this car tip top for years to come. So far I've gotten:
I also plan to get
Any other basic recommendations. I'm also open to learning how to properly and regularly wash and wax the car to retain the paint and re-sale value down the road, and have read a few threads on that, such as this Wiki post here.
Any other good recommended (easy for the beginner) resources you can suggest. This is the first time I've spent more than $1k on a car (~$7500), and want to protect and preserve the investment.
Thanks /r/Honda.
I second Thinkgeek. Love that place.
If you like to cook, some fun new kitchen toys? Like a vegetable spiralizer. I have one and think it's really fun. Examples:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=spiralizer
Some of the new ceramic nonstick pots/pans? I like this little one for egg sandwiches/mcmuffins: https://www.amazon.com/GreenPan-Ceramic-Non-Stick-Mini-Round/dp/B015Y20MVK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1479936364&sr=8-3&keywords=ceramic+egg+pan
Coffee or tea accessories? Desk accessories? USB gadgets? (Visit a local office supply store for ideas?)
Star wars stuff? I bought this for myself: https://www.amazon.com/Plasticolor-003700R01-Star-Accordion-Sunshade/dp/B00COYNZJ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479936991&sr=8-1&keywords=star+wars+car+shade
Other Star Wars stuff that's fun: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_ex_n_1?rh=n%3A7141123011%2Cn%3A7147441011%2Ck%3Astar+wars&bbn=7141123011&keywords=star+wars&ie=UTF8&qid=1479936886
Hey, you can create a list of things you like on Amazon, and share it with your family....
Going off his comment, i'd recommend this sunshade. I have it and it's amazing. Easy to put in and fits the front perfectly. But I also have my windshield tinted to like 50 lmao.
https://www.amazon.com/HeatShield-Original-Sunshade-Subaru-Silver/dp/B07BVVTQJJ/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=wrx+windshield+heat+shield+Item%23+1502&qid=1573257410&sr=8-1-fkmr0
It's the model to get if you DO NOT have the Subaru Eyesight.
Edit: If you prefer not to go through Amazon.
https://www.heatshieldstore.com/car-window-shades/2017-subaru-wrx-sedan
Hello beauty! She looks like a Charles to me lmao
You'll want to get a sun visor for when you leave the car so the seats don't burn your butt? I recommend one like this because it's quirky and cool
And you'll want to protect that ragtop
You'll probably want to have a blanket and umbrella in the trunk (for breakdowns/rain/cold) Keep some sunscreen in there too and wear it even on cold days!
I bought this one on amazon for about $80: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QNJR94V It was an improvement, but it does trap a bit of heat.
I figured stopping infrared from getting in would be more optimal since there's a lot of glass in the Model 3, so I had Llumar Air80 installed on the windows, roof, back & windshield. While pricey it was a significant improvement over the sun shade because it cut down heat from the windows and the windshield as well as allows better visibility out the back glass. I still feel a bit of heat from the roof when I turn my head but it's hardly noticeable compared to the inferno with no tint or sun shade.
I haven't been compelled to re-install the sun shade now that I have tint, but it would probably improve comfort even more.
If possible, can you please help me ask him where he got his sunshade? I see this one on Amazon, but I'd like one that fits a bit better on the TM3. Thanks!
My bf and I slept in a regular size prius for 2.5 weeks this summer. Just put the back seats down so it was flat and used backpacking sleep mats and sleeping bags and a pillow. Was as comfy as my bed! So any of those should be fine.
I would recommend just barely cracking your windows for air flow and either getting a sun shade or parking strategically so you aren't woken up by the sun. At that time of year I don't think you need to worry about the heat at least :-)
Also if you ever do it more long term these were an amazing purchase. Kept the sun out, bugs out, privacy and air flowing! And super easy to pack down.
Happy Birthday
My favorite birthday was my 16th when my mom got my friends and I a party bus. We had so much fun and it's something that we all remember to this day.
If a $10.97 Prime item works then [this] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00COYNZJ8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=CXVE1JPA8VMN&coliid=IJ3K1ATERHL40) or [this] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/8883704894/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=CXVE1JPA8VMN&coliid=I1NBHZSC1ORGBN) if it really needs to be under $10.
I camp in my car sometimes too, and the dome light attracts mosquitoes, so I've gotten some of these. The best way I can describe them is like pantyhose for your car doors. They're a mesht that stretches over the top of the door and cover the whole window area on both sides like a screen. They filter light and bundle up into a small bag.
https://www.amazon.com/ShadeSox-Universal-Window-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1511758695&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=corolla+rear+window+shades&psc=1
It's actually real easy. When I built the bed I purchased [these] (http://www.amazon.com/ShadeSox-Universal-Shade-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6?ie=UTF8&keywords=car%20window%20shade&qid=1458941483&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5) off of Amazon. They provide some privacy, keep the sun out, and most importantly, allow us to let breeze through the windows while keeping bugs out.
Additionally, I purchased [this] (http://www.amazon.com/OxGord%C2%AE-Frost-Guard-Windshield-Cover/dp/B01AOHYT50?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00) to black out the front. Both items have been perfect for camping so far!
I got this ALPS Mountaineering sleeping pad from amazon. Its self-inflating and very reasonably comfortable. A 12v fan is also nearly essential for muggy summer nights. Lastly, these window socks are awesome in that they let you keep your windows down without bugs getting in.
I've done a bunch of analysis on what impacts range in the winter and how to improve the situation. For Tesla, there are essentially two things that are energy hogs during the winter. The electric heater and the AC (defogging). I will give you suggestions on how to minimize the use of both.
To reduce AC usage, I would suggest you to use an anti-fogging product. I use Rain-X antifog but some people say shaving cream works as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vj9avZxuwI&feature=youtu.be
To reduce heating usage, I would apply insulation on the glass roof. Get the roof shade https://www.amazon.com/Sunshade-Overhead-Custom-Fit-Sunshades-Compatible/dp/B07Q9BC8K7 with some paper insulation.
Finally, I would turn off automatic temperature control. Use this general rule. For every person in your car, add 1 to the fan for your heat. So if you have 5 people, keep your fan at 5. Also turn on seat heaters!
I’ve got one from AutoHeatShield for my Model 3 that I’ve been happy with. It was around $55 I think on Amazon. I assume they sell them for the S as well. It folds up instead of rolling, and fits the windshield really well.
Edit: (Folding Ultimate Windshield Sunshade for Tesla Model 3 2018 2019 Custom Fit Sun Shade https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CYGJ1TB/)
The easiest and best solution IMO is a removable screen that covers the whole window by going over the top of the door. I am amazed that I almost never see them suggested on here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YI3IGA6/
They are $20 for a set of 2, require no assembly or otherwise need to be “made” from multiple components, provide privacy (people can’t see in but you can see out pretty well), you can open the windows as much or little as you want, and they pack away into a tiny pouch (all 4 of my shades take up a space about half the size of a loaf of bread and can be stored anywhere).
These have made a huge difference in the temp of my car, plus they're great in that you can open the window unlike the suction cup kind. If you order them, make sure you check the "other sellers" option and pick the ones that are more expensive and available through Amazon, because the lesser expensive ones are cheap knockoffs. (They do take some getting accustomed to, as they are not super easy to see through.)
I haven't made it yet, but I'm going to use a dryer hose (vinyl, not aluminum) to rig a pipeline from one AC vent to the backseat, to make sure cool air gets back there faster.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018ERRLU2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm sure there is a better fitting one out there but I've been using this for the past month without any hassles once you get the hang of the putting it back in the bag twist. It bends and conforms to the windshield just fine for me. Obviously in the image that car has no rear view mirror so its not gonna look so smooth.
Partly commenting just to see if anyone has a much much better suggestion that really does fit.
OxGord CASX-02 Universal Open Air... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DJTA238?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share they fit like a glove and are great!
I bought these (or something like it that fit my Rav4); on top of tinted rear windows and a blanket stretched across the front seats, it feels pretty private.
I just bought some mesh window covers for getting some ventilation and keeping out bugs while camping in my suv. They fit over the entire top half of the door frame and are black which helps with blocking anyone from easily seeing in the windows. The downside is that they're not very secure and wouldn't be difficult to move out if the way so I would be careful urban camping.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YI3IGA6
And I've been putting a lot of thought into this myself recently, and I'm not sure there's a good way to stay cooler during the day other than putting something like reflectix in most of the windows , which definitely isn't stealthy. Maybe get that silver looking window tint and reflectix wouldn't be noticeable behind it.
Happy Almost Halloween!! Less than a week to go.
I need this sun shade. My love of Star Wars knows no bounds and this would be absolutely perfect.
If your apartment gets full, direct sun, get some thermal curtains and reflective window film. Gila puts out a window film kit that works well and can be easily removed when you need to move. You can find it at Lowes and Home Depot. If you get the film, be sure you get the Application Kit for it too.
I had this same issue in my old apartment. The AC would run full tilt, without stopping, and I'd be lucky to see temps below 85F in the summer. I was on the top floor and got full afternoon sun. The curtains and film helped drop the temp a few degrees.
I have a 3/4 ton dodge and I bought These and they fit like a glove. I have a crew cab too if that helps.
Edit: you said rear window, woops. I don't even bother with rear because I have a topper! Sorry!
As long as your pad is insulated you should be ok. I would recommend getting a car reflective shield to help out and you should be fine. But nothing beats a underquilt. Max Reflector Jumbo Accordion Shade https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CAINEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_Hxi.wb202AQ94
Funny story, my dad actually bought this one in the 80s and we have pictures of him using it in his MK 3 Supra. But he recently got this and it works pretty well.
They have them in black and gray?
They're fun, but pretty cheap quality.
I sleep out of my car and these are the greatest thing ever.
ShadeSox
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YI3IGA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uEKGAb3CYM0YT
They keep all the bugs out and when combined with smoker vents you have a vented waterproof sleep setup. I bought them for festivals and ended up using them regularly. I dont even take them off in the summer because its nice leaving the windows cracked with no fear of insect visitors when I return. The pup likes em too because the windows go all the way down now.
Ultimate cheapo solution: Car windshield shades.
I've slept on one of those for a few days just fine. Layer a few for colder weather.
If you go inflatable, Klymit has great options that are under $50 if you shop around. I wouldn't trust anything cheaper- When it punctures or leaks you'll have a long cold night and then have to replace it anyway. Also the cheap ones won't pack nearly as small.

I bought this and it fits perfectly.
I've posted these window screens before but they work great to keep the humidity down and bugs out.

I got this from amazon. It is pretty good:
Tesla Model 3 Glass Roof Mesh... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q9BC8K7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Great recommendations. A nice addition to the window vent kits, as it also blocks out some light and keeps insects from finding their way in.
I have two things this because everyone needs new shot glasses and this because star wars is super awesome
This one off of Amazon is half the price of Tesla’s sunshade. Good quality and fits well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07Q9BC8K7?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I decided I've had it with my old recycled sunshade from other cars and the 3's windshield is quite big so they keep falling off. So I bought this and it's a perfect fit.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSIIPM0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Perfect but I would recommend an install kit.
Amazon has a slightly better deal :-)

I also park outside and invested in this heavy duty SunShade, it works awesome.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E3Z5R00/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_qn0JBb77266R0
Lifesaver.
Tent. Happy with this.
Screens. Get bigger ones. They don't fit over the front widows.
Quick search yields: https://www.amazon.com/Shade-Styx-ERT-RW39-Universal-Sunshade/dp/B008VM0TLO. They seem to be universal unless you are looking for one that custom fits the Model 3. An option that many have done is to get it tinted but that will definitely be on the more expensive side.
I imagine that owner owns the requisite sunshade.
Bonus: There's a photo of red Model 3 w/ the sunshade in the reviews.
I have a friend who swears by these https://www.amazon.ca/ShadeSox-Universal-Window-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6
There are these stretchy screens now that fit over the door frame itself, allowing the window to open while keeping bugs out. I think it's meant as a sun shade. In any case, they're cheap generic products you can even get on amazon and skip the custom fitting
https://www.amazon.com/ShadeSox-Universal-Window-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1511763453&sr=8-3&keywords=car+window+screen
If you’re going to spend money, might as well buy the thing you’re trying to create. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I90VP0G/
That would pair very nicely with this.
We put up a canopy and set up some tables, here's a pic from last year. We've condensed things down a lot since then, we only travel with one tote and one cooler now. In the picture you can see one of these which is nice as an option to sleep with the hatch open on hot nights. For a little extra ventilation we also got these and roll down the back windows.
The ones I ordered were generic one size fits all
They fit great width wise but they have a little extra material height wise but it just scrunches up at the bottom of the window. No problem
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YI3IGA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KEU6CbT8CV27N
You're welcome buddy.
I had that sunshade too it’s a piece of shit. Get this one instead it’s great: Covercraft UV11225SV Silver UVS 100 Custom Fit Sunscreen for Select Ford Focus Models - Laminate Material, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007552NHQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nnI6CbZ8VQY06

Maybe something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008VM0TLO/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
I bought these for long rides on sunny days. Much cheaper than what Tesla sells.
Found them on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Shade-Universal-Window-Travel-Book/dp/B00YI3IGA6
They are made by a company called shade sox, though there probably are some cheaper ones available.
It might be an advantage to look for ones that are bigger than your windows to cover them fully, mine were about 1/2 inch too short and I'd rather have had bigger ones.

Pro-tip: With a hello Kitty sun screen and those daiso 1.50$ window black screens on the rest of the windows not only was no one suspicious but I travelled to places I knew I shouldn't park in without a second thought. Baby on board sign will really seal the deal. All can be found at daiso or a dollar store.

This one. Make sure you get size XXL.
A1 Shades Windshield Sun Shades... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSIIPM0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Yes, I'm in Texas so understand your pain!
I came early to park in the shade, and keep a shade like this to keep it cool inside and hide me a bit from those who may walk by. Keep a blanket in the back seat and lay seats down if possible. Keep a brush and makeup if needed to tidy up afterward, and don't forget to set an alarm! Sometimes I kept my car running or cracked the windows to cool things off. I did not have issues with nosy people, but our parking lot is large with people coming and going constantly.
Why Amazon? Why? http://www.amazon.com/Plasticolor-003700R01-Star-Accordion-Sunshade/dp/B00COYNZJ8
I've found these to be very helpful if you need some air, but don't want to turn on the AC (because of keys in the ignition could get you a DUI), but you don't want to roll down windows (because of bugs). I use them for camping, but they would work here too!

XXL fits fine
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E3Z5R00/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_78.szb71FHQHB check these out. They're like a sock so they fit over the door frame. Blocks a lot of light but you can still see through them to drive, and you can roll the windows down for a little breeze if you want.
He just needs this to make my daughter cry with joy.
It's a sun shade for my son. Wife got a 2-pack from amazon. Cheaper than getting the windows tinted. It could be used as a bug-screen if you wanted to sleep in your cab, I reckon.

Someone else on here pointed me to these last year. Totally worth the money.
I also just bought a 1.5” thick double camping pad to replace the mattress to leave a little more head room for the gf and I but have yet to test it. Will post on here when I do.

I got this one for my MK7 it's legit as fuck. even comes with a little case thing I put it in to store it.
You can get the Star Wars sun shield I have one in my car!
You can try something like this. It'll block out some sun/heat/mosquitos/etc and let you keep the windows down. You just slide em on over the door.
I would also suggest some sort of seat belt. These buckle into a normal seat belt on one end and the other end you attach to a harness (do NOT attach it to a collar unless you want a dead/severely injured dog if you get into an accident or need to hit the brakes hard).
Not OP but I have these: https://www.amazon.com/ShadeSox-Universal-Window-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6/
They cover the windows entirely so it's definitely darker in the back, but also a pain for trying to actually see through (like checking blind spots). Can roll the windows up and down all day long though!
