Consider teaching her the French Drop. My belief is that when starting kids off in magic (I was trained 'old-school') the dependence on props should be limited, and a foundation in misdirection and basic sleight of hand should be encouraged.
I learned the French Drop when I was six. I loved that sleight more than any prop I got in the years that followed. It requires no special props, you can do it impromptu with any small object and it teaches kids the value of practice and basic magic principles. Unlike props, the novelty doesn't wear off like it would with a toy, and learning sleight of hand doesn't get much cheaper.
If you wish to really explore magic with your daughter (and I hope you continue to do so!), I'd recommend "Magic for Dummies" by David Pogue. Seriously! It's chock-full of DIY effects with coins, cards and common household items, with submissions from internationally recognized magicians.
There are plenty of people that will tell you to buy this prop, get that prop. I worked at a magic shop for three years and sold countless magic coloring books, plastic wands, ball and vases, etc.-- the kids that stuck with it always developed an interest early on in sleight-of-hand, particularly the younger ones. I suspect this has something to do with the system of learning. With a magic prop, the child learns that by working lever A and flipping lever B, C happens. That's it. With some sort of sleight of hand involved, the child now needs to perform move A but convince the audience that move B is actually taking place so C happens. The difference here is the child's cognitive development-- they are learning to persuade and convince, traits that will serve them well in other areas of life.
In my experience, buying a magic prop for a child will last as long as the child takes to learn how to work said prop. It quickly devolves into a single-action toy. The reward just isn't there.
Finally, I'd suggest the cups and balls. You can start off with a homemade set (plastic cups, napkin/paper balls) and work on the basic routine. But the great thing is that as she learns the fundamental moves and principles and what not, she'll learn to improvise magic tricks for audiences, and that's where the real fun is. You can spend time with her using your imaginations to 'create' new effects, since one of the downsides to the cups and balls is that it's not 100% impromptu. The idea is to help foster her view of magic outside of just pre-packaged props, so she sees the kind of value that can be created if she thinks outside the box.
As she grows, if she decides to stick with the art, the cups and balls can grow with her instead of being left behind like most kids' magic props. There are many intermediate and advanced cups and balls routines that will challenge her. The routines she can come up with will be expanded with each sleight she learns and will make it easier for her to learn other types of magic. Michael Ammar is a wonderful teacher (and extremely kind man as well). You can even reward her practice efforts by going from set to set to
set as she improves if you wish.
I hope you found this helpful!
So $100 is perfect for buying a standard booster box. Most booster boxes contain 36 individual booster packs -- I'd say it's a cool gift for anyone that plays magic, as almost everyone that plays likes to open packs. Here's a link for the most recent set, [Kaladesh] (https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Kaladesh-Sealed-Booster/dp/B01LJ6TDCE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480804410&sr=8-1&keywords=kaladesh+booster+box). The other standard sets are Battle for Zendikar, Oath of the Gatewatch, Shadows Over Innistrad, and Eldritch Moon. You can also get a Conspiracy: Take the Crown box for around $100, although I'd advise against this unless he's got another half dozen buddies to play magic with.
Alternatively, you could get him a (TCG Player Gift Card) [http://shop.tcgplayer.com/giftcard], which he can then use to buy stuff that he wants (assuming you're living in the US/places that TCG ship to).
These two options are probably the most generic ones possible -- other ideas are buying him a playmat/deck sleeves with a custom image (kinda cheesy but it's there). buying a [blank playmat] (https://www.amazon.com/Solid-White-Play-Card-Game/dp/B006ZWEROM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1480804838&sr=8-5&keywords=white+mtg+playmat) and having friends and family sign/doodle all over it. A lot of Magic players play Commander, which is a 100 card singleton format. If you could subtly ask him about it, or find out his favorite cards, you could buy him foil versions of the card off TCG Player, or commission an artist to alter a card (can't help you there, never had one done before). If he doesn't play commander, you could buy him the [2016 Commander set] (https://www.amazon.com/Commander-2016-Magic-Gathering-DECKS/dp/B01MEEUWDI/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1480805148&sr=1-1&keywords=commander+2016). It comes with five different ready to play decks -- you could even learn to play commander with him. Lastly, the most recent sealed product released is [Planechase Anthologies] (https://www.amazon.com/2016-Planechase-Anthology-Magic-Gathering/dp/B01L3TD0F8/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1480805215&sr=1-1&keywords=planechase+anthology), a multiplayer product that might be of interest if he has friends he regularly plays with.
Personally, if a friend was gifting me $100 of Magic stuff, I'd love some of the high end cards that I can't justify buying right now. However, this requires you knowing what decks and formats he plays. If you want to try asking him, see if he plays Standard, Modern, Legacy, or Commander/EDH, or if he prefers playing draft/sealed. Feel free to post/pm with updates or questions!
I'm pretty sure they (read Sony) patched out any backwards compatibility in the old PS3s a few years ago so that's a poor way to go. Good news is NTSC PS2s CAN play games from other regions using a modchip (which is difficult to set up) OR, and I recommend this method, a 'magicswap'. Basically, it's a disc that comes with a tool to open the drive after the game has booted but without resetting the console. The disc is labeled an NTSC and once you take it out and put a different region's disc in the software on the first disk boots the game you want. The PS2 doesn't check region after the initial boot so it works perfectly from what I remember. This was popular back in the day so people in the USA could play Final Mix versions of Kingdom Hearts since they were only released in Japan. I'll edit a link in for the thing soon.
Edit: This is the disk thing. Not sure if they have a PAL version though so keep that in mind. It costs $35 and if you plan on using a 1st generation PS2 (the fat one that has a motorized disk tray) you'll need to get an opener tool which is only $4. One thing I forgot is that this also removes security checks so you can play backups using this too. (Possibly even load off a hard drive/USB but I'm not sure on that)
Your choices aren't too great on amazon, since we're pretty niche.
I would get a
velocity
http://www.amazon.com/YoYoFactory-Velocity-Black/dp/B00LSNDQ6I/ref=sr_1_3?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1456867561&sr=8-3&keywords=velocity+yoyo&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011
N12
http://www.amazon.com/MAGICYOYO-SHARK-HONOR-String-Trick/dp/B00LHIFKYU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1456867685&sr=8-2&keywords=N12+yoyo
Butterfly XT
http://www.amazon.com/Duncan-Butterfly-Colors-may-vary/dp/B00BWJK0KS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456867715&sr=8-1&keywords=butterfly+yoyo
The velocity if you want something that can be responsive or unresponsive, but sacrifices some usability(High walls, meh weight distribution). The N12 if you want something unresponsive and actually pretty good (but you'll need to learn to bind immediately). The Butterfly if you want a cheap responsive yoyo to learn the ropes on before buying something better somewhere other than amazon later. TBH Butterfly XT + N12 is basically what I got when I started... and I'm doing fine.
http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Card-Magic-Volume-Course/dp/B000JPG96A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407229541&sr=8-1&keywords=Complete+Card+Magic
I recently purchased this. An absolute steal for the price. Yes, some of the tricks / moves are incorrectly named (which is down to poor editing IIRC) but Gerry Griffin is a fantastic teacher and it starts out with very basic, easy to do effects and moves up to some very strong stuff. It also has a fantastic section on sleights, cuts and shuffles which is a good visual companion to Royal Road.
So the Dr. (who is such a good person, like look at him, he totally made that kids day) is using these little fake thumbs that have lights inside of them that turn on when you press them against something (that’s why he looks like he’s doing 👌🏻all the time). From personal experience they are super fun and a great little toy, however unless you have big enough thumbs it doesn’t quite work, also if you were to drop one or the kid were to figure it out it would be a no bueno. I’ve copied an amazon link to the ones that he is using, let us know how it works out!

Here's some beginner tricks that I learned from YouTube when I first started:
Biddle Trick
Don't know what its called but the title says "Slop"
Three Card Monte this one is a bit more difficult. Make sure you practice this so you don't flash a card!
For novinces, these tricks are all fine and good, but you should really get proficient at sleights. I can't recommend The Royal Road to Card Magic (and its on sale right now!
The Royal Road is what I used (along with Complete Card Magic with Gerry Griffin and a Royal Road Deluxe Edition that they've stopped producing ^(you can still find dvd's on it but not the specific one I have). However, the book is better than both of these, although they are good for reference should you get stuck or confused on a part). The royal road is very very good. A good investment and teacher
Not even kevlar. I have a bunch of the stuff actually. You can pick it up in most places that sale magicians stuff. Usually comes as a long piece of what looks like a thicker piece of cotton thread and you separate your own piece of thin fiber from the thicker part, so that one string has like 50 super thin pieces you can use. It's a bit elastic.
Tie one end to your back belt loop and drape it right over your head in front of you and you can make the stuff float in pretty neat looking ways.
$4.00 Shipped
Hour of Devastation was one of MTG's major releases, back in July. The "Bundle" is probably your best choice, if that's not outside your price range. It has 10 packs of cards and other goodies. And the box itself is made to be great for storage.
Another option is, they have what are called "Planeswalker decks" (basically start-up decks). All things being equal that's a fantastic choice, however those decks are pre-made, so you run the risk of possibly getting him something he already got. (I know you're not looking for a whole explanation of MTG, but just because he asks for Hour of Devastation, I would not necessarily assume he has none of it to start with.) Duplicates in MTG aren't the worst thing, since you can use multiples of a card in one deck up to a certain point, but the "Bundle" is fully randomized so it's a much better chance of him getting new different stuff.
Do yourself a favor and go for the Magic YoYo N12. It breaks my heart when I see people who are tight on money going for something more expensive that is less awesome.
https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Yo-yo-SHARK-String-Aluminum/dp/B00LHIFKYU/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1468338039&sr=1-3&keywords=n12+yoyo
And if you don't want to get that one, at least don't punch yourself in the face by getting a Replay.
It's worth noting that you're talking about a Hoberman Switch Pitch sphere. If I didn't know the show or Hoberman stuff, I'd have gotten the impression that it was a ball with a color for each hemisphere, rather than the fun, unfolding marvel that the Switch Pitch is.
There's only one of these balls in my wife's family, and they had to relocate it to her mom's house so all the kids could play with it.
It’s quite simple but very effective.
It’s a toy thumb that is the same colour as his skin and it has a little switch inside and when you push down a light comes on.

I remember when I first saw them in Harris’s. I was amazed as a child.
I have to pick my soon to be not so Little Dude. He's getting so excited about his baby brother and the idea of being a big brother.
This little thing would go in our "Big Brother kit" we're making up for him for when the baby arrives and I know it would be a major hit with him and would keep him fairly preoccupied. :P
Thank you for the contest and a Happy early Birthday to your favorite! So close to those double digits! <3
My grandad used to do this with me every time I visited him. I loved it so much but always kept his secret safe
I found out a few years later that he wore a thumb like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Magic-Street-Magician-Vanish-illusion/dp/B0184TERTI
Since that jellyfish tank is really expensive, maybe this will tide you over in the mean time! :)
Pretty cool Jellyfish lamp.
Or, if you want something a little fancier, here's a jellyfish glass sculpture that's 25% off. :)
I found out about this patch a few weeks ago, it works great. You just need the game ISO and then just patch it and play.
to play a patched ISO on your PS2 or PS2 slim you'll need a swap magic disk.
I think she's using some of that super thin/fine magician "invisible" string... and it looks like it could be taped to her forehead. Watch from the 1:13 mark, and play the YouTube video at 0.25 speed.
I would recommend an N12 for a yoyo on Amazon, 18 dollars is a much cheaper investment for a hobby you might end up not liking. It's also the yoyo with possibly the best price/performance ratio so there's that.
Not actually a wire, but super thin nylon strand with a bit of sticky on the end.
You can buy it at any little magic shop or Amazon for about $6.00: https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Makers-Magicians-Invisible-Thread/dp/B002FP9L1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526315145&sr=8-1&keywords=floating+card+trick
In addition to succulents that I have [boo, sorry you have no natural light. :(] I also have a magic eight ball. It's just something fun to have, and people older than 12 usually haven't seen one in a long time, so people stopping by to chat like to pick it up and play with it/tell a story about one time something happened in their life with an eight ball.
I have invested in an amazing piece of technology. It's cheap, and while not 100% accurate, it has proven itself to be just as effective as many experts in predicting future market trends.
Well if you want to play it, or any imports for that matter, pick this baby up. One of my favorite investments. Only about $30.
> It's not easy task for you and many more out there. Then believe and faith will be restricted to only educated population. But it is not like that.
Not only is it not like that, it's literally the opposite of that. Faith shows a strong inverse correlation with education.
> For some people it just strikes the heart. If a superior power can create and manage all these around us and beyond our knowledge then definitely he can rule the brains and hearts too.
Plenty of people you disagree with feel their faith was something that struck their heart too - people of other religions, for instance. How do you tell something real from something we just want to believe in our hearts? I'll tell you how - all those non-faith ways you list above: like research and learning. Which correlate inversely with faith; that is, the more you learn the less you're likely to believe anything your "gut" tells you. Which should be obvious - you learn all about those times human guts and hearts were wrong, but evidence and modeling and repetition were right.
> We doesn't understand something doesn't mean it's right or wrong.
Usually, if we can't understand it, it's because it's not even wrong.
> And what the people follow as religion can be right or wrong. Because people intend to make mistakes but not the superior power.
Substitute your superior power for anything else, and see if it holds true. For instance: "Magic eight-balls are never wrong; they are all-knowing. People can be right or wrong trying to follow their random-seeming advice, but the magic eight-balls are never wrong. The failings are because of the humans, not the perfect magic eight-balls."
Do you find that argument even a little convincing? No? Then hopefully you can understand why we don't find yours convincing - they are basically the same argument.
> And it's not burden to believe in something beyond everything. For an outsider it may look like a burden but actually it isn't a burden for the person who believe.
The truth does not care if it is a burden for you or not.
Would either of these sites work?
http://www.yoyostorerewind.com/
http://spingear.jp/
From the site you linked there isn't a metal yoyo in your price range that I'd consider. Most are old models and overpriced. The yoyofactory Rockstar was the best thing I saw.
As for stuff on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Yo-yo-SHARK-String-Aluminum/dp/B00LHIFKYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426351399&sr=8-1&keywords=magic+yoyo+n12

Back when i was in science olympic in highschool all we did was play with this . It's definitely worth buying but don't balance it on the tip of your penis, definitely not worth it.
Found a 48 piece set for $12.99. For the last wall in the screenshot, you'd need about 8 of them, so $103.92 before tax or shipping. If you have Prime (for free shipping) and live in MN like I do (or somewhere with a similar tax rate), it'd come to about $111.32.
A swap disc is a disc that you insert in your ps2 ,allow it to load, eject without shutting down, and then insert burnt media such as backups of games. Some allow you to run content from a usb drive. This was the first one that came up when I searched. I've heard that there are downloadable ones online but I don't know if its true or not. Either way if you don't think your tech savvy enough to mod a ps2 a swap disc is the way to go.
Evidently you can still get them on Amazon. But I preferred the polymer non-capsule creatures that expanded when you soaked them.
Expanding towels are pretty cool, too. And practical.
I'd go with the Magicyoyo N12. Great unresponsive metal yoyo, can't beat it for the price imo.

A set is a collection of cards that are printed and shipped out to distributors for players to buy. They are released every couple of months. You can buy a whole box which contains 36 "packs" which hold ~15 cards.
You can find the most recent set: https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Kaladesh-Sealed-Booster/dp/B01LJ6TDCE
If have any more questions you can feel free to pm me. I've been playing off an on for several years.
I recently watched Now You See Me 2, so they were fresh on my mind. And I see now how many people already revealed the magicians’ secrets. I feel like a dingus for the spoiler text.
Anyway, have a link to some glow thumbs

You could try some of these. Kids usually enjoy writing in salt or sand. You could also get one of those magic toy trucks that follow black lines and have it follow the letters. https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Inductive-Truck-Follows-Children/dp/B072KPTGL4
Their system is actually pretty cheap.

One of the most entertaining things I've had on a trip. In addition to this just try and find some cool/small toys and vivid lights
I have one. It's a black rectangular solid with a footprint about the size of a cassette tape, with a handle and switch. I don't know why I have it. WIWAL my dad had one with a metal core sticking out ("wand" type?) for the reel-to-reel heads. I used it to degauss a Magnetic Gyro Wheel (probably not that exact model); it didn't work out very well.
Basically, the Hive weaponized this: http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Animal-Growing-Capsules-12/dp/B0016KVH1Y
I think it'd be more hilarious, though, if there's a Hive planet somewhere out there that's just covered in a 14-mile-high pile of Thorn Thorns, and all the Thorns in existence teleport their ammunition from the Thorn Planet.
yeah most toy store around were i live sell them. i also found one on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Hoberman-Switch-Pitch-Throwing-Ball/dp/B000P13PL0
Thumb covers with a bright glowing lights on it.
Just found on amazon.
There's a product you can buy that's just as accurate at predicting these kinds of things as asking on reddit. It's pretty cheap. All you have to do is ask it a yes/no answer, like 'Will God of War be under $20 during the black friday sale?", and then flip it over.

TBH this is a pretty decent DVD for the price. Lots of tricks, as well as lots of basics. I feel it goes well with Royal Road and Card College (books) as a supplement.

Let's change a market, even if slightly, in memory of my papa:
https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Gyro-Wheel-by-Schylling/dp/B000H66204
EDIT: Disclaimer, I am in no way affiliated with this product, just felt right to spread the happy.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Makers-Magicians-Invisible-Thread/dp/B002FP9L1W
That sure beats my magic light thumbs disappointment
Actually what's more likely and easy is that the cameraman is using invisible thread that's stuck to the 8 ball with a tiny bit of wax. Invisible thread is what magicians use to levitate things. The camera shakes because it's the cameraman who pulls the thread, causing the 8 ball to roll towards him.
I want one too!
Edit: Is this it??
I'm in the same boat and never heard of Smiggle or eightball so looked them up. None on Smiggle but there is one on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mattel-Games-30188-Magic-Ball/dp/B00001ZWV7
It's this stuff. Attach one end to yourself (in my day, I used a fake pager that contained a spool of the thread), and the other end to some object using magician's wax. Looks to me like he might have two lines going for the napkin to be so steady. Probably has one end fed through a shirt button hole, and the other stuck on a chair at the other end of the table. Some really fun wizardry can happen if you're wearing black, or if the background is black. People can get right up close to the effect, and never see the thread. It's really that thin.
What would be cool if you make one like those illusion disks. So when she opens it, it appears on the top surface, but when she goes to grab it she can't because it's actually inside. You'd need to make that version bigger though and doing the internal curves in wood would be tricky.
